K7N2 and Radeon 9800 Pro Prob..

I work at a computer store in Killeen texas and am having an issue with the K7n2 Mobo. When we use a Radeon 9800 pro from ATI, we do not get video on every boot. The system will go itno windows but will not show a post screen or windows. This only happend with version 3.4 of the bios. We downgraded to version 3.3 And the card worked perfect. Their is a new 3.5 Bios. Was wondering if I should upgrade to this bios or Leave it at 3.3. By the way....We tried three other K7n2 boards and two different Raddy9800s. We also had a similar prob with the All in wonder 8500. And again version 3.3 of the bios worked fine. Any Ideas....

leave it at 3.3 as its not changed
but its not all boards and all ati its wierd

  • Digital Audio G4 and Radeon 9800 Pro

Has anyone had the same fuss w/a Digital Audio and ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition? Been through about 5 cards (lost count somewhat) and constantly getting a display of the video card (with its power connector flashing red) on a black screen. Only by opening the box and reconnecting the power connections, and sometimes reseating the card, do I get successful results, with the Mac booting properly.
No other card (others that I use do not require an additional power connector like the 9800 does) seems to have this problem; all boot properly.
There is a Sonnet 1.8 Ghz Dual CPU upgrade, 2 internal hard drives, a raid card, and FW 800 and FW 400/USB2 cards, but additional power connections for those have been unplugged. I'm good with letting any external devices run on their own power.
Thanks much, to anyone that may have a suggestion or a solution.

    Hi-
With regards to the connector graphic, this invariably means that there isn't power connected.
State the obvious, but, have you tried pulling power from a different connector? Maybe try a new extension........ Molex connectors can work loose from the cap, and slide back when attaching to a device. This would give the appearance of being connected, though in reality, otherwise.
Have you tried without any of the PCI cards installed? I wouldn't want to remove the processor, either, though the dual does pull some power at boot. The DA PSU, however, should be able to handle both the processors and the 9800..... unless the PSU has a weak 12v/5v/3.3v rail....
Pulling the PCI cards will clear up whether or not the problem is with power in the PCI bus.
As for posting a picture, you need to host the picture at a site like Photobucket or Imageshack. Then, place a link (produced at the host site) in your thread.

  • 875P INF Drivers and Radeon 9800 Pro All in Wonder

Please help; I am at my absolute wits end.  I will try to be brief but I doubt that there is much chance that it will be.  Basically I have narrowed things down to this.  My video card is a Radeon 9800 Pro All in Wonder 128mb version.  My motherboard is a MSI 875p.  Lately I realized (long story not important) that I did not have the inf drivers from intel installed for my mobo.  This seemed to make sense as to why I was having display issues in games; IE Morrowind.  So I installed them, and when I rebooted I was pleasantly surprised to find that the monitor would simply turn off right before I could get to the login.  Now I have reinstalled windows several times and installed several different combinations of intel inf updates with different version of the Catalyst drivers.  Pretty much, if I have the INF drivers installed, I will not be able to get into windows.  However, if I don't have them installed (like right now) normal things, like typing this message, I can do, but I can't play any games   .  From what I have read I am thinking that it is one of a few things.  A, it has something to do with the AGP driver/ and voltage setting things.  Many people were talking about issues like this with the 9600, and 9800 pro (not all in wonder).  So there might be some bios settings that would help; though I have no knowledge of how such things work. B, is that the card is just a dud and I should just give it up and try to send it back in.  I am afraid of option B mainly because I know it will take forever, and then I have no comp, and because of dreaded option C.  The motherboard is simply incompatabile with the Radeon 9800 Pro All in Wonder 128mb version.  Please let me know if anyone has had similiar problems, if I am up a creek, or how to set the bios...  Here is my system specs; I will check back to see if I need to add anything.  Thanks a bunch.

(There doesn't seem to be anything in the Bios updates that will help me luckily, because I want to avoid flashing it if I can.)

Okay, I will try to answer any questions as they came.  First off, Windows XP Professional is what I have.  I tried to install the video drivers with both the inf update from intel, and the one from MSI installed.  Again it crashes at login screen with any sort of inf update (ie agp drivers) installed.  Radeon is running at 4x with fast writes disabled, however there is one interesting thing I learned Another thing to note about the problem is when I got to the ATI SMARTGART advanced settings little program (within the ati folder under program files) I can see that PCI write, and read are both on, and AGP read and write are both off. I am not a genius in relation to computers, but how could this card be acting as a PCI card, when it is installed in a AGP slot?  Is this because since I don't have the inf update installed, so as far as the computer knows that agp slot is a PCI one? A further thing to note is that whenever I install the video card driver for my All in Wonder 9800 Pro, is that it installs two cards from what device manager shows. One is "ALL-IN-WONDER 9800 SERIES" the other is ALL-IN-WONDER 9800 SERIES - Secondary". According to device manager they are both located on PCI Bus 1, device 0. Disabling one or the other does not seem to make difference. A final thing to note is that I took an All in Wonder 9000 out of a friends comp and put it into my with the inf update installed; it booted windows and detected it fine. Does this mean my card is a dud and needs to be sent in for repairs, or is there some kind of voltage issue?  As for other PCI cards, I have a modem that is not even installed at:
PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 3, device 1, function 0)
Sound card at PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 3, device 2, function 0)
Again Video Card (PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0)
The onboard Gigabit Ethernet is at (PCI bus 2, device 1, function 0)
Another thing that might help clue someone in is that I have
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
    Listed 5 times; IRQ's are 23, 16, 19, 18, 16
The IRQ of my All-In-Wonder is also 16 if this means anything. No conflicts listed of course.  Another note is that my onboard ethernet's irq is 18, same as one of the usb host controllers, and it works fine...
I can't think of anything else to add, let me know what you think.  Thanks a ton so far guys.

  • Quicksilver 733 and Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB

My dad just purchased a new iMac for himself and he's given his older Quicksilver 733 to my nephews. I'm trying to setup this Mac so the kids can use it to play games like Battlefield 1942, Command & Conquer, Star Wars Galatic Battleground, etc.
The Quicksilver has 1.12 GBs of RAM and a new 350 GB Seagate SATA hard drive with controller. I just installed a flashed Radeon 9800 Pro w/ 128MB of VRAM, but for some reason the computer still seems sluggish.
I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.3.9. I also noticed that in the ATI Utility shows the Radeon 9800 Pro's profile, but it doesn't indicate any refresh rates, which is odd. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Kelly

I also noticed that in the ATI Utility shows the Radeon 9800 Pro's profile, but it doesn't indicate any refresh rates, which is odd.
You will only have refresh rate options with VGA monitors.
DVI monitors all default to approx. 60Hz.

  • ACD 23 and Radeon 9800 Pro - strange behaviour with color profiles

    Hello,
I have just purchased a 23" Cinema Display. The first one I got in the store exhibited ghosting effects that ceased to exist after a few hours (self healing effect?) and I also noticed after a while using it, that the left side and especially the lower corner were darker than the rest.
So I took it back yesterday and got a new one which is close to perfect. Neither of them had any dead pixels! I am very pleased with it and knocking on wood, hope that it stays that way;-)
My hardware: The display is hooked up to a G4 MDD dual 1,25 with a Radeon 7000 pci card and a Radeon 9800 Pro AGP card. The latter card was put in for the Radeon 9000 pro that came with the computer. So far I have been running a dual display setup with a 21 and a 17 inch CRT.
    Now comes my problem:
I calibrated the cinema display hooked up to the 9800 Pro with the eye-one and the eye-one match software. The profile I got was not a smooth curve, but a zigzag curve. Of course that is by no means usable for anything.
By numerous trial and error attempts, I did find out the following:
    - If I calibrate with the eye-one, I can have only one monitor hooked up to the computer, otherwise I will always get zigzag curves in the profile.
    - If I look at numerous testcharts(greyscale, etc.) with the newly created profile, all looks very good and in specs. As soon as I hook up the second monitor again, something changes on the cinema display, even though the profile has not changed. My testcharts look a bit contrastier and on the greyscale the two darkest and lightest fields do not seperate anymore.
Rebooting does not help either. As soon as I unplug the second monitor, everything looks perfect again.
I know that this is an unusual issue but I hope that someone here has a clue to where the problem could be. I have tested so much and do not find a solution.
I will call the apple hepldesk, but I already know what they will say:"The display is working as designed. Your issue has to do with the graphics card and that is a third party product. You have to call ATI for support".
So, maybe I can get some help here.
    Cheers
    Peter

    Hi Bryanus,
Did you have an ADC port on your old card? Do you still have your old card? If this is the case, you can verify that the new card is implicated by re-installing your old card and seeing whether the problem repeats itself.
If you only have DVI on your old card, you would have to borrow an adaptor, but then you are relying on the adaptor to function properly.
If the problem doesn't repeat itself with your old card being used, then the new card is the culprit, in which case I'd ask to have it replaced, or get a refund.
If the problem does repeat itself with the old card, then you might want to consider other possible contributing factors such as the physical state of the monitor connection (dirty or tarnished contacts, bent pins etc.).
If the problem repeats itself with a new (replacement) card, you could add AGP slot issues to the above paragraph.
"Sleep" in an Apple Mac often generates issues with third party hardware, so your primary consideration that it is probably the card is (to me anyway) still the most likely.
All the best with the diagnosis!
    Cheers!

  • Difference between Radeon 9650 and Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition?

I was considering upgrading to a 9800 Pro Mac edition to replace my Radeon 9650. Would there be much of a performance improvement?
Should I go for the X800XT?
    Thanks

    Hi Curnsie,
Realize this thread is "answered" already, but, actually, there is a good bit of difference between the 9650 and the 9800. Have a look here:

  • 865PE Neo2 and Radeon 9800 Pro Graphics Problems

    Hello!
I just got done building a new system last week, and I've noticed some issues when playing games.  Problems arise when the "Performance Mode" is set to anything higher than 'Fast' in the BIOS.  I get a ton of artifacts when playing games.  I also get artifacts when the Dynamic Overclocking feature is turned on.  I'm using the latest Catalyst drivers, running on XP SP1 w/ all patches installed.  My guess is that my graphics card doesn't like the boost in speed.  BUT, I bought the VisionTek 9800 Pro because I read several reviews on it that said it was stable when overclocked.  Anybody have problems like this?  I saw an earlier post stating something about OEM 9800's being fakes, but this was a retail version ordered from CompUSA.  Any advice, tips, comments would be greatly appreciated... It's driving me NUTS!

I've got the Built By ATI Radeon 9800 Non-Pro and I've set Perf Mode to Slow and DOT to Disabled. This enabled me to OC the Proc stably.
I've played SWG with all terrain and video settings to the MAX and have had only one problem where the game itself crashed. But that was an anomaly not the norm.
I personally would recommend icing perfmod and DOT. They seem to be good marketing ideas, but don't gain much in practice.

  • Huge artifacts with PowerMac G5 and Radeon 9800 Pro (Could be 10.4.11)

    Hi!
During installation, my graphics got all screwed up. You can see a screenshot of what's going on at this link:
    http://www.gchoquette.com/files/Picture2.png
I think you guys can see it too. I'm actually writing on the defective computer, so it's hard for me to see what's in the screenshot.
Here's what I did so far. I tried removing half of the RAM first, then the second half, the problem persist. I rebooted on a different system, it's still there (so not software). I tried Hardware Test utility, it says everything is fine. I unplugged the Video Card, cleaned it a little along with the connectors, nothing.
Here's what we know. It happened DURING the update to 10.4.11 (not after I rebooted). I'm pretty sure I can take screenshots of it, so it's not simply in the connectors to the monitors. It happens on both my monitors (also when I unplug one of them).
You guys have any idea of what I can do or what is going on?
    Thanks!

I have a flashed 9800 pro and I've noticed that if I turn the computer on before the monitor, I'l get nearly identical artifacts. If I turn the monitor on before the computer all's well. Maybe its for flashed cards only. Good luck.

  • MEGA 180 and Radeon 9800 Pro/XT

Haven't posted in a while, just wanted to spread a little good. Having a MEGA 180 is a little limiting with power supply and space issues etc but i've got a cracking setup working here :-)
I bought the MSI RX9800PRO TD128, despite a 300watt power supply warning for the card it works perfectly in the MEGA, but the good news doesn't stop there, the graphics chip is not a standard 9800PRO R350 core, for some reason it has the R360 core from the 9800XT, overclocking is a breeze with the ATI Tool. It comes default with a 378 core - 338 mem setting, I have saved a profile in ATI Tool with the XT settings of 412 core - 365 mem and they work a treat in UT, Q3, Tomb AOD and i've even stressed the card in 3DMark05 for quite some time and it just works, I dare say I could push it even higher but I'm happy getting XT performance for PRO money :-)
Overclocker New Zealand have even managed to get it up to an insane 479 core - 391.5 mem see http://www.overclockers.co.nz/ocnz/review.php?id=04vga00r9800promsi00000r9800pro0105
There is also another great thread all about this card at http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showindex.php?t=118366&highlight=rx9800
The ATI Tool is quite good, i've even created a profile for 2D that is underclocked for when I'm in windows so it keeps my system a little cooler with the XT settings set to kick in when I start up 3D, coupled with a Barton 2800+, 1Gb of PC2700 and the 120Gb Maxtor with 8Mb of cache and it is all just working well together, Win XP Pro with SP2 is rock solid, well it is for me anyway, :-)
    Couple of things to know.
Win XP finds the RX as an XT, so no need to try and flash the bios, it isn't an XT PCB anyway, just an XT core.
As there is no heat sensor for the core ATIs Overdrive isn't available but you can get the ATI Tool from loads of places on the net, here is a link anyway http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/
    happy at last :-)
    J.

Dont know if this will help but I had the same problem awhile back with an Asus A7N8X deluxe that I built for a friend.   Sometimes it would initiate the monitor and others it would not.   This drove me nuts for about a week, I tried everything that I could think of.   This is what I did to remedy the situation somewhat.
Go to the ATI website and download the catalyst removal software and also download the Catalyst 3.7 driver from there "older" drivers page.
Now boot into windows and remove the ATI drivers and control panel from add remove programs, DO NOT REBOOT!
Run the ATI driver removal tool.
Shut down the machine, REMOVE THE POWER CORD,clear cmos, set the jumper for CPU fsb to 100mhz (safemode)  and REMOVE your ram.   Boot the machine, you will get a series of beeps indicating that the memory is not installed. Shut the machine down, REMOVE THE POWER CORD, Put the memory back in, reset the CPU fsb jumper to its normal position,  and clear Cmos again.  (this series of actions  also solved my no display issue on my Mega 180 using the onboard graphics).
Now boot into bios and set it up the way you want then boot into windows and when windows tells you that it has found new hardware do not let it automatically install anything (cancel it).  Now run the 3.7 catalyst setup and follow the instructions.
I am not sure why this worked to solve the issue but it did for me on both my Mega and the above mentioned system.   I think there may be some odd conflict with the Nforce chipset and the ATI drivers and or Card bios.
Why it worked on my Mega is a mystery, I am using the onboard graphics and would have the system turn on with fans working and all but would have no display out.

  • Having trouble with my G4 MDD 867MHz DP and ATi Radeon 9800 Pro video card.

I just recently purchased the ATi Radeon 9800 Pro Mac edition card on ebay. I installed the card on my G4 and turned it on thinking everything would work with no problems, but when I turned it on the grey apple screen came up fine and then it changed to a sky-blue screen with nothing on it and remained on that screen. My desktop or any of my apps did not load up at all. I reset the PRAM and the NVRAM as the seller I bought the card from instructed me to and still I get the same result. Is anyone familiar with this problem? I was wondering if my monitor was the problem because I'm using a Dell LCD monitor as the display for right now? I need help! I'm trying to get this up and running so I can start editing. Whatever information anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated!

Sometimes display cards that support multiple displays (or a second display card in the same Mac) can cause the display you are using to be the SECOND display in a multiple-display "extended desktop".
When this happens, the MenuBar and cursor may be drawn perfectly, but be on the "other" screen, and it is very difficult to determine what has happened. \[This problem is sometimes caused by inadvertently leaving an adapter or cable on an unused display port.]
Try moving the mouse many times to the right to see if the cursor suddenly transitions onto your screen, then try the same experiment to the left.

  • Aperture and ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Special Edition

I have noticed a few people on this board have the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Special Edition (256MB- G5 only) listed on thier specs on the bottom of posts
so I was wondering what your experience using this card is like with Aperture, even-though it I realize that it is not the current top of the line card ?
How about a rating from 0 to 5 stars where 5 would be the best currently available.

P.S lets not get into a p**** match over what IS the best video card for Aperture; I am just looking for subjective views on THIS card!

I have noticed a few people on this board have the

How about a rating from 0 to 5 stars where 5 would be
    the best currently available.
I have just the card you mentioned.
I think how happy you'd be with it depends on what kinds of files you are using. I work with TIFF files because my camera is not supported, and performance with those is better than with true RAW files.
I generally do not see much delay but a few adjustmnet tools (Shadows & Highlights & Spot/Patch) can get a bit pokey.
Honestly if I were upgrading my card all over again I would bit the bullet and get the x800XT, which I am mulling over even now... I was hoping it might drop a bit more in price but it does not seem to be doing so.
If you want an absolute rating I guess I'd give it three stars, though again that is with the files that I use. For other larger RAW formats like D2H files and such, I think it's more of a two.
One last thing to note is that I have not tired other raw formats since the update, so it might be upgraded from a two... I was waiting to see what kind of speedup Aperture 1.1 offered in addition to just the system update. I'll report back when that update comes out.

  • ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and kt4 ultra

    Hello
i was curious to know of any problems with the Kt4 ultra motherboard and the Radeon 9800 pro??
my system constantly crashes back to the desktop, or completely locks when i play Command & Conquer Renegade.
there are also some "misdrawn?" walls in the game also,...
i have all the latest drivers for the motherboard and the card,(including the released today catalyst drivers from ati.com)
i have also tried the drivers from driverheaven.net, but same thing happens,...
    this is truly aggreviating...
    some system specs:
    kt4 ultra

    corsair 2*256 3200LL
built by ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb
ive read where you can increase the agp voltage to try and fix the problem...and i also saw where one guy was just going to buy another motherboard b/c of the issues...
    any help is truly appreciated
    thx

FWIW, in case anybody is reading this thread in future and has problems with this Board and this card, I can report that I have now(at my second attempt) successfully installed a Radeon 9800 Pro on MY kt4 uLTRA motherboard.
As noted above, I purchased a new Antec True Power unit, prior to installing for a 2nd time.   I am not sure whether that was necessary, but it certainly didn't hurt.  The successful installation process was as follows:
    1) Download the latest catalyst drivers from ATI
    2) Set monitor to lowest possible standard  (640 x 480, 16 colours if possible - in my case my digital monitor could not be set lower than 800 x 600)
    3) Uninstall drivers for existing video card
    4) Replace video card
    5) Install ATI drivers
    6) restore settings on monitor to maximum.
At that point, after restarting the computer, I had a CLI.exe error.   After Googling for this problem, I discovered that I needed to download Net 1.1 from Microsoft.  After downloading and installing that additional program, Radeon 9800 Pro is now working perfectly.

  • ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and Apple Cinema Display compatibility

I'd like to buy an Apple Cinema Display for my 5-year-old Power Mac G5 with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, but I'm having trouble understanding what I can and can't hook up to my system.
I was thinking of getting a 30" display, but the Apple Store says I need a Dual-Link DVI, which I don't think my graphics card supports, but the Store also says I need an ATI Radeon 9650 or better, which I imagine the 9800 Pro is.
I've looked at the ATI site for data on the graphics card, but their online manual shows a completely different set of connections on the card. They show VGA and S-Video out ports that mine doesn't have.
Does my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro have dual-link? If so, can I use the 30" display? If not, can I still use the 30" display?
If I can't use the 30" display, are there any compatibility problems with the 23" Apple Cinema Display?

The 9800 is faster than the 9650, but it doesn't have a dual-link DVI port.
Make sure you were looking at the Mac section of ATI's site. PC and Mac versions of the same card may have different port configurations.
AGP cards with dual-link DVI, starting with the fastest:
ATI Radeon X800 XT 256MB (ADC, dual-link DVI) (Some reports of problems with Leopard)

  • Radeon 9800 pro and memory problem

Hey i was wondering if someone could help me. I have a kt4av-l board. I just put in a radeon 9800 pro and When i play some games im getting crappy fps i updated the chipset drivers and the card drivers but still no help i have a 2400+ processor. also I bought a stick of ddr 2700 1 gig and for some reason i can't use the ram get alot of errors with it. i have two sticks of ddr 400 in there now 2 different brands and sizes and that runs fine but when i put that other stick in there by itself it doesn't work.

    Hello,
It could be a weak power supply, have a look on your power supply's sticker for the following
    eg
    400w
    +12v = 13a
    +5v = 40a
    +3.3v = 28a
The new stick may actually be faulty.
    http://www.memtest.org/download/1.51/memtest86+-1.51.floppy.zip
Here is a program to test the memory.
Try increasing the voltage to 2.7v and set the frequency to match the CPU FSB. (133Mhz)
Is the CPU running at 2Ghz?
Sometimes when you buy a new video card the previous cards driver may conflict with the new one.
    Try a reinstall of windows.
Also did you plug a power connector into the 9800pro?
Are you using any ATi drivers?
