K7N2 Delta Athlon 2600+ Boot Problem!!

Hey this is my first post...
Here is my comp:
K7N2 Delta Series MB
Athlon XP 2600+
Thermaltake Volcano 7+
512 DDR PC3200
GeForce 4 Ti 4200
I noticed that my comp is booting at 1200 mhz. My comp is reading the CPU as a 1.2. I checked the bios and turned the fsb up to 200 mhz because my friend said he read in a forum that it was ok to do so. I did this and now my comp doesn't read my video card. It boots up ok just I have no picture. I have tried resetting the bios and still I have no pic. My questions are this:
1)Am I not flashing the bios correctly, and if so what is the best way to do it?
2)Could I have permanently damaged the motherboard or video card?
3)If none of the above what do you guys recommend I do to fix the problem and what have I done to create the problem in the first place?
Well if you can please help. I really want to be able to see windows again or even the bios!
Thanks

set jumper j10 to pins 1-2 and remove jumper j11. set cmos jumper to clear........unplug the power from wall....... press your power button to relieve any charge left in the mb.........now place cmos jumper to save......plug power back in, and try to start it.......if all goes well and it fires up set bios defaults....save and exit bios.............replace j11 and set j10 to pins 2-3.......and restart.
btw jmbook 166 fsb is also overclocking a 2600......default is 133 so take baby steps.

i have tried anything i red in this forum (clear cmos... safe mode jumper...strip all parts...)
    all i get is :
blank black display, no beeps and keyboard lights flashes over and over (when connected to a KVM hub), when conected directly to keboard the lights flashes only once but stil black display and no beeps (i hear on speake, when powering up PSU, a silent short noise, no beep).
power suply turns on (new one 500w), i tried agp video card and replaced with pci video card.
memory is kingstone 512mb pc3200 400MHz x2, i tried only one of them and both in diferent sockets.
    cpu: AMD xp 3200+ 400fsb.
i did succed to go into bios only once, after lots of resets and shutdowns and bios clear (after ouers)
i choosed in the bios: load bios defaults, and thats it. i hoped it starts up but nothing.
i did all testing i know (checked all pins, cables, clear cmos...all, you name it)
all parts are brand new (except motherbord. it's seconds hand from eBay. i've bean talled that it works fine)
i also e-mailed MSI support that question. (2 days ago. no answer yet)
oh...and i have a pci POST diagnostic card and its 7seg display don't shows any numbers, only when once i succed to get into bios. i don't have the msi original D-Breket addon diag.
    can you help me?

  • K7N2 Delta Won't Boot

    Hi All,
I'm new to the forum and I hope you guys can help me out. I'm having power issues with my box. It won't boot!!!!   This is was it does powers up then shuts right down. It doesn't boot long enough for me to check anything. It continues to do this if I don't unplug it. Please guys I dying here.
    Here's my configuration:
    Samsung CDRW
    Pioneer DVDRW
    Seagate 20g OS Drive
    Seagate 80g Data Drive
    Sound: Creative Audigy2 w/ remote
    512MB Samsung memory
I bought a brand new power supply thinking that would solve my problem. But to no avail that didn't work. So, I disconnected the power and reset cables from the motherboard and jumped the board and it still does the same thing.   And it's driving me nutts.   I checked the processor and its cool. Could it be a memory problem? I remember getting memory errors like for a week before. Sorry for the long post for a newbie to the forum.

  • MOVED: K7N2 Delta Upgrade Power Off Problems

This topic has been moved to AMD SocketA based board.
K7N2 Delta Upgrade Power Off Problems

Thanks for the various suggestions.  I can confirm:
     - 4 pin cpu power plug connected
     - front bus frequency changed to 200MHz, processor now recognised correctly as Athlon xp3200+
     - I have been assured the cpu has not been overclocked
However power off problem persists.  System shuts down after approx 1 minute whether i am in BIOS or start initiaiting xp repair from CD.  As the system shuts down after such a short time the xp repair will not complete. The system wil not power on again until at least 15mins has elapsed then promptly powers off again.
I have fitted the D-bracker diagnostic tool and this shows 'operating system booting', ie four green lights.
I note from the motherboard maunal that a cpu thermal protection system is installed for the Athlon cpu platform.  If the mechanism senses an abnormal temperature rise it automatically shuts down the system.  As noted in my original post the system is powering off with the cpu temp at <40 deg C.  The cpu warning temp in the BIOS PC health check stsus facility is set at 60 deg C so do not think this is the issue?
    System details:
    MSI K7 N2 delta (MS-6570)
    Athlon xp 3200+ (AXDA3200DKV-4E)
    Corsair twinX 1024-3200C2 DDR-DIM 1024 MB
    Seagate ST340016A 40MB HDD
    Pioneer DVD Rom
    Generic CRD - BP1500P CD
    1.4MB mitsumi FDD
    Thermal take TR2 470W psu
Coolermaster xdreamII socket A cpu fan
    Gigabyte geforce 6600GT turbo video
    soundblaster live 5.1
    Anyone any further thoughts?

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta 2 LSR boot/power up issues

I installed the K7N2 Delta LSR mb with an Athlon XP socket A 3000+ cpu.  The computer turns on but won't boot.  Nothing appears on the monitor screen and there are no beeps.  The harddrive spins, the board has power but nothing happens. When I put my old mother board back (MSI K7T Pro266A) in with the Athlon 2000+, everything works fine.
    Maxtor 60 gb harddrive
512 MB SD pc2100 SD Ram
Abit 128 mb Radeon 9200SE Video card
    Any suggestions?

    A few things to check:
Do you have any unused stand offs in the case touching the motherboard
The XP3000 CPU is a barton core and comes in two variants, a 333FSB and a 400FSB version.  Your RAM is PC2100 which with an Nforce chipset is a recipie for problems. The NForce chipset is picky about RAM and PC2100 running on a PC2700/PC3200 processor FSB probably won't work.
Also post your PSU max amps, as a +12V rail below 16A could cause problems.
Do you have a D-Bracket connected ?  This is the PCI insert with 4 leds on ?

  • K7N2 deltas mainboards have a problem with usb devices ??

    Ok here is my problem..
I had installed WinXP Pro with SP1..
I got a 20 GB USB2.0 disk.i connected it on the both front or rear usb ports.
When i tried to transfer files to my usb disk or to my PC, in the middle of the copying, i got "Write Delay Failed" error and lost my usb connection..
I had to plug it out and in again..
Now, i have an DSL modem..Last night, i was disconnected from internet and my modem's lights gone..I plug it again, no lights..restarted my PC, also completely shutdown Windows XP..Again no lights..
Then, formatted PC and installed windows 2000 Pr and SP4, until now, my modem worked fine..But USB 2.0 ports are still no use for my usb disk...
In bios , it's enabled as USB 1.1+2.0..
I think this K7N2 deltas have a problem with usb 2.0 devices and Win XP Pro..
Some guys talking about, removing 9th wire earth, but couldn't understand which wire from where ? From mainboard or from usd device's cable ?
Those cables are fabricated, i think it's impossible ?
My processor is Athlon 2500+, ram Twinmos 512 DDR 400
    Thanks for reply

I'm also having this problem. It's happening with my USB flash disk. I was almost buying another one when I tried it with Windows Vista on the same machine and it worked ok, then I tried Arch Linux (with kernel 2.6.30.5) on another machine and got the same error. After that I tried Ubuntu and it worked ok. Seems that Arch's kernel doesn't like my USB flash disk.

  • K7N2 Delta Post Bios Boot faliure

I just bought the motherboard set it all up and powered it on and all the fans spin up but make a rapid speeding up and slowing down noise.  i took the motherboard back to the shop and they replaced it and tested my new one in shop and it worked fine.  i took it home put the processor ram and gfx card in and the same problem happened again.  on the d-bracket it says its a Processor problem ive tried another processor in it and got the same problem.  also the Led's on the d-bracket flash on and off instead of being constantly on.
i am using 512mb Corsair 3200 400mhz Platinum Ram, AMD Athlon XP 2400+ also tried 1700+ to no avail and a Radeon 9700pro.  i dont understand what could be wrong as it worked fine in the shop with their ram and 1700+ cpu  ;( i could just cry.  i have also tried swapping out the power supply with another one :O any help into this problem would be greatly appriciated.

Thepower supply im using is a Q Tec 550watt Gold it is a really good power supply the only thing i could check is swap the memory around the slots and take the motherboard out the chassis and see if it works then...could be a short inside the case :'(. i have cleared the cmos memory and set it to safe 100mhz fsb.i was under the imprestion that the MSI K7N2 Delta was a good mobo i must of been mistaken :'(.  what make of ram do you guys use and where could i get some :D BTW i live in th UK (England).  im not overclocking anything either  :]

  • K7N2 Delta ILSR Strange network problems

    K7N2 Delta ILSR
    2500+ AMD Barton
    Radeon 9600 PRO
    Windows XP
    Hi there,
My network was working fine yesterday but now whenever I plug a cable into the onboard network card, my computer starts having these strange flucuations...Every few seconds the CPU usage jumps from 0% to about 50% which causes the system to freeze for a second, making it a real pain to do anything.
Does anyone have any idea whats causing this?
    Thanks,
    Shim

for some reason msi have not removed kingston from their supported list.

Further, I'd like to buy another 512 M stick and honestly it seems more sensible to me to mount two equal sticks. And I feel somewhat stuck...
a memory can be incompatible but still work.
alot of people buy any memory they can and throw in and it may work.
but it can start crashing after installing some program or updating bios or drivers.
thats the reason i posted the memtest program.
worry about a crash....no reason for that as you self said memtest reported no errors prime95 no errors and doom3 worked good.
kingston uses many different chips on their memory and its those chips that is the problem.
one guy found out that on the specific memory he bought kingston used 3 different chips on.
only 1 of them worked good on k7n2.
so a 33% chans of success in getting a good module is considered bad.
so write down the numbers on the chips and take it with you to the store and compare it to the memories they got.

  • K7n2 Delta ILSR - DVD writer problem

    Hi
My system is a AMD athlon 2600, 1Gb Crucial DDR 400 RAM, Tyan tacheon 9600 pro and a pioneer A106 DVD writer.
I have connected IDE1 to the hard drive and IDE 2 to the Pioneer DVD writer.
    When
    i) IDE 2 (DVD) is NOT connected  the system boots up very quickly.
ii) IDE 2 is connected , the sytems start up time is a lot slower.
The DVD writer works then intermittently and sometimes doesnt even respond in explorer.
Anyone got any ideas on why this is?
    Thanks
    Shaz

    got it jumpered right
using a modern 80 wire ide lead blue end in the board, not the older 40 wire ones

    Thank you very much.
xp only supports up to 137gb without sp1.
if you read my trouble shoot guide you will find a link on how to slipstream sp1 onto a xp installation cd then you get support for big harddrives right from the start.
    aslo usb2 installs directly.
im using a slipstreamed version and i have no trouble with my 160gb harddrive.

  • K7 Delta 2 Nforce2 boot problem after ram upgrade

Ill start out with the stats of the system
    Delta 2 w/ DDR-400 Ultra support
    Althlon XP 2100+ 266fsb cpu
512 Mb Mushkin High Perf Level II 2-2-2 Ram
80 GB IBM Deskstar HD 7200RPM
    30 GB Maxtor HD 7200RPM
    Radeon 9700 Pro
    SB Live 5.1 Soundcard
Standard 400W power supply, all voltages were normal
So here is the issue, this system was running perfectly until i purchased two more sticks of mushkin ram, 2x256 mb ram sticks of Hi Perf Level II 2-2-2 ram, i placed this in the dual channled slots.  Machine then restarted and i got into BIOS where i set the clock to 166 to obtain my 333 fsb for the RAM, and selected the high performance timings.  This is when disaster happened, upon saving to cmos, nothing will work now, no bios screen, no beep errors, just the two green lights on bottom, and red lights on top of the MSI s bracket.  I have swapped out the ram, and cleared the CMOS, same thing, im all out of ideas, im going to try swapping the CPUs, but how could there be anything wrong with the CPU, i know all this stuff worked on the system.  Any Ideas?
    -RastassJr

First Refer to your manual to make sure I have this right as I am going from memory.
As Wonkonoby suggests, the J10 jumper can be set to safe mode 100mhz for the CPU FSB.
Then remove the jumper block from J11, this will set the CPU Frequency to 100mhz.
These settings will usually help in recovering from bad settings in the BIOS or an overclock gone awry.
You may have to Clear the CMOS with JBAT1 Jumper, but please make sure you DO NOT start your PC with the JBAT1 jumper in the clear CMOS postition! You will probably bork your motherboard!
    To clarify:
Please unplug the power supply from the power outlet or remove the power plug from the back of the unit.
Then, press the power button to purge any remaining power that is in the capacitors in the power supply. (sometimes you will notice the fans spin for a millisecond when you do this)
    Set Jumpers J10 & 11 as described.
Clear CMOS by moving the JBAT1 Jumper to the "CLEAR" CMOS position for a few minutes. (it's often recommended to remove the battery after moving the jumper to the "CLEAR" position and waiting a few minutes befor replacing it and then replacing the battery and moving the Jumper back to the "KEEP" position)
Thats it, you should be able to start your PC and enter the BIOS. Make sure you set the jumpers J10 and J11 back to where they were and then enter all your BIOS settings again but this time be careful about timings.
If that does not work then you have a more serious problem.

  • KT6V and Athlon 2700+ boot problem

I recently got an Athlon 2700+ to replace my 1800+ on this KT6V board.
I know the motherboard supports that CPU but after putting the new CPU in and hitting power, nothing happes.  My monitor stays on Standby and there are no beeps from the BIOS.  The power comes on and fans go though.
I updated the BIOS and that went fine, but was no help.
I flashed the CMOS back to defaults, then put the 2700+ in and still nothing.
The 1700+ and 1800+ processors I have work perfectly so I think my 2700+ is toast... although it looks fine.  There are no scorch marks or cracks in the die and all pins are there and straight.
My 4 pin P4 PSU connector is in place... the 1700 and 1800 won't run without it.
any suggestions before I send this 2700+ CPU back for a replacement.

Can you try it in another system?  You can use this link to check its OPN number to verify what model 2700 it is.

Do you have the diagnostic led connection hooked up to the motherboard?

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta ILSR 1gb kit problem

I recently changed my memory from two Kingmax 256mb memory modules to a Geil 1gb kit. I was surpwised to find out that my system wasn't stable anymore. It restarted after only a few minutes of playing NFS Most Wanted. I tried running Memtest86 and it found lots of errors. Same was with Prime95's torture test witch stopped after less than a minute. I blamed the memory modules cause my previos modules worked flawlessly in both tests. First i tried leaving on just one of the two geil memory modules. It worked just fine. I tried the other module and it worked also. But together it dosn't work even if i put them in sigle channel mode (first and second slot). I went and tried the kit in another dual channel machine. Tested with Memtest86 -- ok. I thought it was some kind of incompatibility between the board and the Geil memory modules so i tried another two 1gb memory kits (one from Gskill - 2 3 3 6 and one from Twinmos 2.5 3 3 8). They all gave me the same kind of errors in test #5 of Memtest86 exactly at the same time (when reaching 95% of the test). I'm beginning to think that the board doesn't support more than 512mb of ram even if the manual says 3gb max.
            Can you help me, please?

Do you know of any problems I can get by running this high VDIMM for a long period of time? I woudn't whant to burn my kit for I intend to keep it when I upgrade my system. That will be when I can get a Athlon64 X2 and mobo (MSI or DFI Nforce4) at a resonable price (this means next year probably).
no.. you are nothink about worry.. its 100% safe. this memory can handle 3.1Vcore...(still working wihout any problems, got a 4 machines with same memory at 3.1V running at 24/7 for 4 mouths) without special cooling..
2.8V is nothink for that memory   im glad that my BIOS solve your memory problem. and "CPU upgraide for free" : wrote: "I definently have your bios loaded but instead of 32 bit cpu XP3000 I have shown 64 bit 3000. Cheap upgrade!" 2hits with one
