K7N2 Delta: frequent Tone freeze

Quick Overview of system
K7N2 Delta
400 Watt power supply
2500+ Barton
512 Pc 2700
128 radeon 9500 pro
Audigy 2 ZS
The problem started when i realized that the motherboard i bought didn't support the 4.1(5.1).  I needed the higher end version.  So i go out and buy a sound card (one listed above)  that does support it and it started just to lock up with a high pitched squeal after a random period of time.  The squeal happens in anything with sound (music games etc.)
Total lockup. I've tried everything. reformats with new drivers on sound cards and the motherboard.  Im stumped. Any had a similar problem and fixed it?
-Thanks

The K7N2 Delta does have support for 5.1. But there is a better audio driver than the nforce one to enable this feature. Just download it at Realtek site:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True
Maybe you could change this audigy 2 you bought for something else more usefull.

    Hello ALL
    I have a K7N2 delta with arhlon 2600+ 256Mo.
My problem is the following :
My pc reboots frequently since I have upgraded the BIOS (Ver 5.60) and changed my graphic card.
The temperature of the CPU gets up to 80°c....I suppose it is the reason why my PC reboots...But I dont know why the temperature is so high....
    Can someone help me please....

  • System Freeze Microstar MS-K7N2-DELTA

    Hello!
I Resently abandoned ny "ol' faithfull' PIII600 for a more gaming-friendly system (full spec. below). I assembled the system myself so here I am
    THE PROBLEM:
System freezes from time to time:
    * System froze a couple of times during installaion of Windows. I had to run the installation program a few times before complete installation.
    * Almost never when surfing (as am i doing right now).
    * System always freezes during ADAWARE- or NORTON AV-scans, but never at the same spot.
    * It also always freezes during 3DMARK 2001 Very seldom during Counter-strike but often in Jedi Knight or Judge Dredd.
    * System every now and then when watching AVI-movies
    THE SOLUTION:
Oh please provide me with one. I'd hate to scrap my new 1500$-system and go back to Ol' Faithfull.
    Best regards
    Peter

  • MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR Memory problems

I'm trying to burn in a system in a 50 deg C (122 deg F) room for a minimum of 12 hours.  The main system components are as follows:
    Motherboard:  MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2800+
    Memory: 2x512 OCZ PC3200 EL
My problem is that the burn-in software continues to freeze up during the memory test.  I've already contacted the software manufacturers and the software is stable.  It's a problem with the way the motherboard handles the memory.  I've tried putting the memory in dual channel configuration and changing the timing settings in the BIOS.  The SPD settings are 2.5-3-3-7.  Right now I have them at 3-4-3-8.  It's a lot more stable than it was under the default settings but it still freezes up sometime after 7 hours.  Unfortunately, I wasn't around when it froze so I don't know exactly how long it lasted.  I can say that after 7 hours, it wasn't showing any slowdown in performance.  If anyone could think of anything else I might be able to do to get the system stable, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the suggestions.  The CPU FSB is 200, so it's already matched up there.  And we have a ton of fans already.  There are two in the front, 4 inside and 1 on the back.  It's a custom case, 2u high.  The power supply is oversized and more than adequate to provide the required power.  I have four of these units running right now.  Two with 2x512 sticks and two with 1x1024 sticks.  For each combination, the memory clock speed for one is 166 and 200 for the other.  I have been loosening up the memory timings trying to get the system stable, but it still isn't.  If the power supply is good, and I'm unable to cool the system anymore due to limititions within the case, is there anything you can think of to stabilize the system.  Maybe other settings in the BIOS or suggestions on how to go about getting good timings for the memory.  Thanks.

  • K7N2 Delta lock ups

    Hi there,
I've got a MSI k7N2 Delta sitting in my PC atm. But with a nasty problem. I have to keep the cpu sitting in it (AMD Barton 3000) underclocked for me to use my PC for more then 40 mins at a time. After that time, it just freezes, and the sound card (not system speaker) emits a nasty high pitched sound. Using a more intensive game, i.e. planetside speeds up the process, somethimes running for a mere 5 mins. To use the pc atm, the cpu is clocked at 1.4Ghz, instead of the over 2ghz it should be at.
    Any suggestions anyone?
    Specs:
    K7N2 Delta
    AMD Barton 3000+
512Mb Kingston DDR (on compatibilty list)
    ATI Radeon 7500
    SB! 128
    Antec 400Watt PSU

ok, after some more testing (man i love CS  ) it still locks up, but it took longer initially. It now just freezes, with no beeeep from the sound card. It may be temperature related though, as after the intial freeze, it will now only take a few minutes before it does it again. Straight after it freezes I'm getting temperature of around 50 on all monitors.
Ill whip out that TV card and give it a whirl now
p.s. case fans, i think one is in the wrong way, is the spinny side supposed to facing in the case, or out the case? cheers

  • [nforce] K7N2 Delta, having massive lock-ups / random reboots.

Hi all, it's been a while since I last needed your wisdom. Anyway, a couple of days ago my machine began to randomly reboot on me, so I went about trying to figure out what is causing the problem. I've cycled out my PSU, my drives, changed BIOS settings, so on and so forth, and it's still happening. System Specs follow:
    MSI K7N2 Delta Mobo
    Athlon 2800+ Processor
    512 x 2 Kingston ValuRAM PC3200
    Generic PSU : 3.3v : 28a, 5v: 30a
EVGA Nvidia Geforce 5950 Ultra 256 MB
Seagate 200GB 7200 RPM Hard drive
    Lite-on DVD/CDRW Combo burner
Any ideas? I've been dismantling this thing and rebuilding it over and over for about a week now, and nothing has changed. I get the reboots all the time, graphic-intensive and not. I've even had the machine freeze up in the BIOS menu before. Help me please!!!

  • K7N2 Delta Onboard Sound Disable Question

I have a K7N2 Delta motherboard with a MSI FX5600 256MB DDR video card.  I am currently using the onboard audio.  Ever since I first built this computer I have been having nearly every game I play on it lock up and freeze.  I am thinking that it is a sound issue that is causing this problem, so I want to install a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live.  I have several questions that I hope someone can answer as I have exhausted all avenues and still don't have any answers.  Here are my questions:
       1.  How do I disable the onboard sound?  ie  Which jumper is it and what are the
            jumper settings?
       2.  Which PCI slot is recommended for installing the sound card so that I won't
            any IRQ conflicts?
       3.  Is this actually an audio problem or is there something else wrong with this
            motherboard or video card?
This is becoming very frustrating because when the computer locks up all I can do is just reset without shutting down.  I'm becoming more and more worried that if this continues unabated I'm going to crash the hard drive and have to replace it only to have the problem persist.  I hope someone can give me specific answers to my questions.  Thank you in advance for your help.

First. Is it K7N2 Delta-L or Delta-ILSR (the one with an actual Soundstorm chip on it)? If you have the actual Soundstorm chip, use it! It will sound much better than an SBLive. Assuming you have the normal K7N2 Delta-L like I have:
    1. To disable the onboard sound, first uninstall the drivers for it, then you need to go into the BIOS by holding the Delete key while you boot up. Then find the section "Integrated Peripherals" and in that section "Onboard Devices". Press Enter and find AC97 Audio and disable it. There are no jumpers.
    2. PCI slots 1, 2 and 3 are usually not shared with other stuff like you AGP or USB ports. PCI Slot 3 is the ideal choice. 1 is usually covered by your video card fan anyway. For the SBLive, on Windows XP/2000, get the newest drivers from Creative Labs. The file is named "LiveDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe" and it's file size is 23.3 MB (24,451,404 bytes). They have fixed the "nforce2 + gameport incompatibility".
    3. The problem may be audio related...or not. Which drivers are/were you using for your onboard audio? nvidia or Realtek? Actual Soundstorm chip or crappy software codec? It could also be video card related. Fastwrites? 8x or 4x AGP?

the 2 internal ones are differnet makes, but connect through PCI
there must be something wrong with Mobo settings or pci stuff
all internet and modem settings are correct, etc etc etc

If your not hearing dial tone you might have your phone plugged into the wrong port. Most modems have 2 outlets, one is labeled line ( that is the one you should have plugged into the jack (RJ11C). If that's correct, query the modem and see if it tests OK, you may have a defective modem.

  • K7N2 Delta ILSR Strange network problems

    Hi there,
My network was working fine yesterday but now whenever I plug a cable into the onboard network card, my computer starts having these strange flucuations...Every few seconds the CPU usage jumps from 0% to about 50% which causes the system to freeze for a second, making it a real pain to do anything.
Does anyone have any idea whats causing this?
    Thanks,

Further, I'd like to buy another 512 M stick and honestly it seems more sensible to me to mount two equal sticks. And I feel somewhat stuck...
a memory can be incompatible but still work.
alot of people buy any memory they can and throw in and it may work.
but it can start crashing after installing some program or updating bios or drivers.
thats the reason i posted the memtest program.
worry about a crash....no reason for that as you self said memtest reported no errors prime95 no errors and doom3 worked good.
kingston uses many different chips on their memory and its those chips that is the problem.
one guy found out that on the specific memory he bought kingston used 3 different chips on.
only 1 of them worked good on k7n2.
so a 33% chans of success in getting a good module is considered bad.
so write down the numbers on the chips and take it with you to the store and compare it to the memories they got.

  • K7N2 Delta....please help

OK, let me start by saying that I know just enough to be dangerous (and really get things screwed up).  With that said, My computer was running great and then I had the chance to upgrade my processor and RAM so I did.  Since doing so I've run into a little snag, most of the time, about every 60 seconds it just freezes up for anywhere from 3 to 10 sec.
Does anyone have any ideas?  Here's my setup:
K7N2 Delta ILSR (MS-6570)  I just changed the Bios to version 7.80
    Athlon XP 3200+ running @ 2.20 Ghz (temp is 40-45 C)
    (3) 512MB Geil DDR400 PC3200 6-3-3-2 (dual channel mode)
NVIDIA Geforce4 Ti 4200 (w/ dual 19" samsung SyncMaster 191T one DVI one AGP)
Dual 80 gig SATA hard drives
SCSI card w/ benchmark tape back up
    liteon CD Burner
    Toshiba DVD ROM
    1394 net adapter
    D bracket
    S bracket
    3.5" floppy
    Creative speakers SBS2.1
Generic case w/ plenty of fans & 450W power supply
    XP pro SP2
    Other settings:
AGP clock @ defalt setting of 66
    AGP voltage 1.5
    DRAM voltage 2.7
    Vcore-1.64v
    +3.3v - 3.23
    +5v - 5.10
    +12v - 11.85
    -12v - -12.69
    -5v - -5.20
    Items that where changed:
    I went from a XP3000+ (333FSB) to the 3200+ (400FSB)
    added a stick of RAM
    installed SP2
and in an effort to fix the problem updated the bios
I know this board is ram sensitive - so is the added ram the problem?
    Is SP2 the problem?
    Or is it the 3200+?
    Please help.

    Hello,
What is the model of the memory modules?
Geil PC3200 Value ram Blue heat spreaders?
The timings for that are 2.5-3-3-6 not 2-3-3-6 (assuming you got the value series)
Are you running the memory in SPD mode?
You may also want to test each module with this program.
    http://www.memtest.org/download/1.40/memtest86+-1.40.floppy.zip
It will create a bootdisk that cannot be read in windows.
You must then boot from the disk with only 1 module in the PC.
If you get any errors then it is a faulty memory module, test all the modules.

  • Motherboard K7N2 Delta/ AMD XP 2.2

I have an AMD xp 2.2 processor fitted in the mother board that I bought recentle, exactly is K7N2 Delta series, MS-6570 (v1.X) ATX Mainboard and win xp prof as an operating system.
On my comp/propert the processor buss freq comes up as 1.35 GHZ, instead of 1.81Ghz that was coming up with the old motherboard.
I have checked the jumpers and they're optimized at 133mhz buss spead. I did change the bus spead from 100 mhz to 133 mhz in bios, but the op system became unstable and freezed up, so i had to decrease it to 100mhz again, and the system is noticeable slow, especially when i am doing video editing.
Now, this could be simple but I am quite a novice  and could really appreciate if you vould help me optimising my processor.

  • Soundstorm won't open! nForce2 k7n2 Delta-ILSR

    Yo guys.
For some reason my Soundstorm control panel wont open.  Every time i try and open it encounters a problem and needs to close before the window even shows up. In the past I've also had problems where my onboard LAN and sound devices disable themselves.  It's a confusing problem, basically even if i try and reset things, like ipconfig /release /renew, it says that i can't renew it because the file needed for it isn't anywhere to be found.
If you need any more information, just ask and i'll give it to you.
    -d1git

I'm having a similar problem.   I lost my 5.1 sound and it can't be solved by completely uninstalling drivers because that can't even be done.
    Specs are as follows:
    MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR
    AthlonXP 2500+
    1gig RAM
    ATI Radeon 9100 128mb
    WD 120GB HD
    WinXP SP1 + updates
When I first built this thing a year ago, the sound, nForce sound control panel worked fine on SP1.  About a month ago, I had some issues with the onboard LAN which led to a reinstall (under the "upgrade" option).  The "LAN problem" turned out to be a NIC/hub hardware compatibility issue, so it's irrelevant here.  After it got done installing, I lost all sound.  When I double-clicked on the nForce sound control panel, an error of SndStorm.exe came up.  I tried to install over the drivers with the new unified drivers, but the nVidia setup program starts up, gets to 100%, then does nothing.  I uninstalled the Dolby MCP and audio controller through the device manager, but before the computer restarts after an "uninstall," a box popped up saying something about "uninstall failed" but Windows shuts down too fast for me to read the rest of the error message.  Did this several times.
On subsquent sound driver uninstall/reinstalls, it's been hit or miss.  Windows would detect the devices and use the drivers it finds (or if I direct Windows to the driver files I downloaded).  Sometimes I get sound from the front 2 speakers and the sub, sometimes I get no sound.
So I tried to reinstall ("upgrade") WinXP+SP1 again, then I went to add/remove software and got rid of all nVidia drivers, restarted.  I can't remove "nVidia nForce Utilities" at all.  Under the add/remove program entry, it doesn't say how many MB's the utilities take up, nothing about how frequently it was used.  When I hit add/remove, the error is simply "installation failed."  Clearly the uninstalls aren't clean, and I'm willing to go manually remove things from the registry if I have to, but I don't even know where to start.
Any suggestions on how to fix this other than a clean wipe?  Thanks.

  • Help! amd xp3000+ barton temp's.... k7n2 delta ilsr

Hi all, (sorry for the lengthy post)
Ive recently built a new system based on the K7N2 DELTA ILSR, great mobo, however my cpu temps are extremely high! on idle 48C and on load nearly 60C. the mobo temp hits approx 40c on load and 34 on idle.
I had an issue with cooling as the cpu heat diode would freeze my pc as it was hitting temps of 58c on idle. i was using the coolermaster aero 7+.... no good at all!!!!! even when on full rpm. Now im using a vantec 80mm fan on a Thermalright SLK-800A. much improved, however still extremely hot.
after reading this review (section headed: Heat Dissipation: Thermal Conditions and S2K Bus Disconnect) :
    http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/athlonxp-3000.html
......on "S2k bus disconnect" created by AMD for the barton range.
As the article states, it reduces Cpu temps ALOT!! but im not too sure ion how to activate it or even if my MSI motherboard supports it....
    Can anyone shed some light???
    system:
    Radeon 9800
    1GB 3200 Ram
    xp 3000+ Barton
    Sound Audigy 2
    Thanks, Sav

Sorry about the long reply!!! the first thing i would like to say is why does this happen at 58C even with the bios temp settings diabled??? pehapes MSI could Answer this?
I have spent countless hours trying to fix this problem and a lot of £££. A bit of background to me I am a design engineer and i like my PC to work well. I have the following main components
xp3200+ based system (Max die 85C)
with dual 512ddr sticks running at 400mhz
    Matrox Parphilia
    10K SATA hard disk
    7,200 133ATA hard drive
    Plus motherboard Nvidia chipset
these all kick out a lot of heat the (CPU contributing 76.8w).
first i started out with a very cheap case and standard amd heatsink. I found after about 5 minutes my pc kept crashing i automatically thought that it was probably the case temperature so monitored this found every time cpu reached 58C it crashed on the dot. The only conclusion i can draw from this that this MB has some thermal protection that can not be switched off but i am guessing perhapes MSI would like to answer this.
I quickly decided as an engineer that the best thing would be to go and buy a aluminuim case with lots of case fans (Basically a big heatsink itself). After a lot of searching i settled for a Coolermaster ATC110. It has four case fans all run at full speed all the time. Now this stoped the crashing problem it only now crashes if i put it under continous loading. Then i went out and bought a new cpu heatsink to replace the amd standard one. This had a minor effect on cpu temp but again under high loads the system crashed at 58C. Obvoiusly as an engineer i satred to think that the amount of noise the system with all its fans going at max is like being put in a wind tunnel.
I then turned to looking at the thermal diserpation requiremnts of all the bits in my system. I worked out that i need to disserpate 281Wmax of heat with my current setup. The kind of heat a small electric fire produces!!!. I begun to wounder if i could shift enough air through the two exhaust fans at the rooms ambient temp to do this. After some calculations I found that my case exhaust case fans are only just surfficent to disspate this amount. Which could explain this the crashing. because the higher the case temp the lower the capability of the heatsinks to conduct heat away from the item.
In the end i gave up with active cooling methods (heatsinks and fans) and realised my only option was to go for external cooling. I now have the system setup with a koolance exos cooling both hardisks graphics card cpu and MBchipset. I know this is very extreme but the case fan noise got to me now i have disconected all case fans except for the ones in my thermaltake power supply which are virtually silent. After about 12 evenings of testing and installation I now have a system which is not only stable but the CPU temp is only 32C.
Obvoiusly getting the heat out of the case is a good idea. The Exos is only running at it's lowest setting which means the  fans arnt making any noticable noise.
MOST IMPORTANTLY IT DOES NOT CRASH ANY MORE. AND THERE IS THE PSSIBILTY OF OVERCLOCKING.
The question still remains though why 58C?

  • Win ME vs. K7N2 Delta raid drivers

I am seriously wondering if there is such a thing called "no conflict PC".
After an enormous headache concerning s-ata hdd and smart/temp readings....which I gave up, a new problem arises today, well, it must have been there from the day 1.
Running Win ME (dual boot, don’t ask why) I tried copying a few big files on s-ata drive (K7N2 Delta ILSR mobo) connected via raid. And everything stops??!?! Mouse pointer freezes, winamp stops, everything is dead for a few seconds than it reverts back to normal, copy s a few second, and freezes everything again.
So I look in system properties, s-ata drive is using ms-dos compatibility mode, ? I tried adding a P-ata drive on raid controller and removing a s-ata drive, same thing. Great, drivers are at "IT" again. And normally, raid controller is disabled saying "windows stopped responding while attempting to start this device, and will never try to start them again". So I tried to reinstall drivers, and after rebooting I got a "windows protection error, system halted" BSOD. Rebooted again, windows up and running, but the RAID is disabled again, ms-dos compatibility mode welcome back.
Interesting thing is, while watching movies, playing games...and stuff form s-ata drive I have no problems and no freezes, copying a DVD on a same drive makes no problems, but as soon as I try to copy a file from a hdd, freezing is back. Go figure.
    Any ideas?

    ms-dos compatibility mode
If I remember correctly, that is, or was a BIOS option on the K7N pre Delta and Delta boards, and should not be enabled, might wanna look into that. I inquired about that to MSI engineers back when the Delta was released, and was told not to enable it.
Oh,.. and WinME will lose every time  Win ME vs. K7N2 Delta raid drivers

  • More K7N2 Delta ILSR issues

After resolving many issues I've got with my K7N2 Delta ILSR (I still have no regret because I choose it over Abit or Epox), there are still some problems I could not overcome:
    1. the system cannot resume standby (it goes in S1 or S3, but hangs when resuming before any image appears on monitor)
    2. at a freq when I have stability with default vcore, raising vcore is producing instability (system freeze when running prime95)
    3. system temp reported by mbm -last version- seems high: 48-52 degrees; the proc temp is always 4 degrees -no more, no less- higher
My specs: K7N2 Delta ILSR, Barton 2600@2170Mhz (10.5x206)  cooler master aero 7+,
    4HDD: 2SATA raid 0 Maxtor 120Gb, 1Maxtor 200Gb and 1 WD 80Gb on IDE3 (Lumberjack mooded bios 7.6),  1 DVD-RW Pionner 106D, 1 CD-RW Yamaha F1, 1 CD-RW Plextor 48\24\48,  Hercules Radeon 8500 128Mb ,…, Psu Chieftech 420W (very stable voltages -reported in mbm- when running Prime95 and (or) other killer appz), Thermaltake Xaser III V1000A case

Anybody? I am worried in particulary about the imposibility of resuming from standby... please help
