K7N2 Delta has jibbery and garbled Video

I just purchased the FX Nvidia XT TD256 video card with the K7N2 Delta ILSR Ultra and after jumpering it to safe mode jumpers 10 and 11 i think, and clearing cmos, the screen works fine, then I restart machine, sometimes without going into bios, and video is jittery and garbled lettering. I can't get the machine to boot into windows, or even be stable enough to load windows, What could be the problem? I just purchased both of these this week, I am also using the AthlonXP 2600+ cpu, and Generic memory with TT Performance 1gig 2700, PSU 28a@+3.3v. 30a@+5v, 34a@+12v Aspire 500W, WD 80g, WD 120g, and on I/O card WD 250g HDD's. This problem occurs with every reboot, no matter what setting are in bios.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

The nforce 2 chipset is fine, dont think thats the problem because Ive built machines with the same type board and video card without any problems at all.    Do you have a different video card to try in the K7N2??     Also check and see what the BIOS version is - It might need to be updated.    Maybe try a differnt stick of ram if possible.   A little more info on the card if possible.  its a FX5200 I think, but whats the brand??   Does it have a plug ( Molex or floppy type) for extra power on the card??
One other thing to check,   Make sure you dont have an extra stand offs on the motherboard.    Some boards take more than the 6 that that the K7n2 do.   If so this may be trying to short something out.

  • [nForce] Problems with K7N2 Delta 2 Platinum and SATA

    Hi All
I have a MSI K7N2 Delta 2 Platinum with an AMD 3200+ Barton.
    I have 2 x 512mb Crucial PC3200 DDR400 RAM.
I have a Samsung 80gb SATA hard drive.
I am trying to install Windows XP Pro onto a blank SATA drive. The trouble is that I get into the Win XP Pro setup and it just doesn't recognise the drive. I have tried installing the drivers on the Flopy, but the drive just isnt recognised for me to install Win XP to the SATA drive to use as a boot drive.
I've read the advice thread, but couldn't find my problem.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

Thank for that. I haven't done that but I have got XP to recognise the drive to install to it.
XP went as far as going to the lovely bright XP installation screen and has installed hardware. When it got to installing the network it just froze up and stopped working.
Now I think the problem may be that I set the one SATA drive up to be RAID (striped) in the RAID config. I will disable this tonight and have another look. The thing that I would like to know is what setting in the BIOS of this mobo means that the SATA drive can be used as IDE? I don't have two SATA drives to use in RAID, so I figured that I have to get the one SATA to act as an IDE drive. I have SATA spreading disabled, but am unsure as to which of the other settings to change. Soz to keep asking!
EDIT: I sorted the RAID config thing. Fomatted the drive and re-installed XP. Once again, it just stops once it gets to the windowsesque creen. It stops at various points during the installation, sometimes at the "installing networks" bit, sometimes at the "completing installation" (after coying data). I just don't know what to do realy. Might RMA the board and go back to my trusted old Aopen AK77-600GN :-(
    Anyone any ideas?

  • Duel boot K7N2 Delta using SATA and EIDE

I have a K7N2 Delta MB with SATA running RAID 0, also I have HD pluged into the Primary EIDE cable slot, using SC ( cable select ), everything works fine.   What I want to know is if anyone has had any luck using BOOT MAGIC (comes with Patition magic) to duel boot between the SATA and the EIDE drive.  Also I have found that once I set the SATA to be bootable AND loaded XP then I was not able to boot from any other device, floppy or EIDE. The floppy works fine when I use it once running on XP.  I have the floppy set as the first boot device the EIDE drive c: as second boot device and SCSI as third boot device, the system always boots from SCSI.  Any suggestions out there great ones?
Never mind I found the answer.
I took off SCSI from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd boot.  enable other boot and all works fine now.

Wonkanoby, You are now officially my hero. Did exactly what you said. IT WORKED. My system screams now.   Thanks.
p.s. Have you ever thought about rewriting the manual for MSI. Their documentation was confusing at best.
p.p.s Saw the other reply below about reflashing the bios. I see no need to do that. follow the instructions in the first reply and you should be good to go.

  • K7n2 delta has VIA chipset?

Can someone give me some advice in reference to what chipset the k7n2 delta series has? I was trying to get my usb ports to be recognized but I have not installed the chipset drivers. Does the board support the VIA or other firmware upgrade? Thanks in advance.

  • K7N2 Delta MS6570 and JUSB2 header.

I have a K7N2 Delta MS6570 Mobo and when I first obtained it I installed it into an Antec Sonata case. This has, among others, two USB sockets on the front. These can be connected by two sets of four separate connectors. I tried using these but found that, although the USB connectors on the front  were recognized, a message followed stating there was a problem. I then decided to connect the supplied D-bracket and these worked with no problems. ( not bothered with Bluetooth) I then made further attempts to use the front connections but in spite of checking everything... no go. So I gave up as at that time I had no real use for front connections. Lately I find it would be more convienient to be able to use the front USB connections and have made further attempts but with no success.
I have noted that the manual on page 2-22 the JUSB2 header shows that pin 10 is for USBOC, which I believe is an over current pin but with negative logic.. ..???? When I use the front connections this pin is not connected and as far as I can see this is the only difference between front and D bracket.
I would be very grateful for any suggestions to overcome me problem. Many thanks.

I think I have now tried everything and this is the present position.
Using the front USB sockets fed from JUSB2 some USB devices will work OK, therefore assume connections are correct. However when I try the use a USB flash drive  I get message "USB device not recognised". I have tried two devices with same results. If now change over to feeding the D-bracket from JUSB2 both USB flash drives work OK from there. They also work OK on another computer.
Why oh why is there a problem using the front US sockets with some USB devices?

  • 2d games are jerky (K7N2 Delta-L)

    Hello!
Is anyone else having this same problem: I recently bought this new MSI K7N2 Delta-L motherboard and my 2d games started to jerk?
I can't anymore play my favourite game Worms World Party on this machine because It's unplayable jerky.
I updated my motherboard from ECS K7S5A but it seemed to be a bad choice. Before the Upgrade my Worms used to run smooth like a dream.
I have all the latest drivers and bios updates.
I have tried many different display adapters (NVidia/ATI) but nothing seems to help. Always the same thing.
I can't believe my machine runs worms nowadays slower than 233MHz AMD K-6 machine with unbelievable slow graphics card.
At least 3d games run fine, even though I don't like 'em.
I wonder if anyone has a solution for this annoying problem?
    Machine specs:

Yea I emailed your last fix notice to Glennvidia today...sorry I'm not able to keep up with it lately...business is good and it's growing again...
    Forcekeeper
    My ram is 2 x 512MB Kingston KVR333X64C25/512
( I said my memory speed incorrectly earlier )
Kingston is risky at best with these motherboards...it works for some but not for most ppl...
My PSU is Q Technology 300W
    3.3V = 28A
    5V = 30A
    12V = 15A
This motherboard is power hungry and a QTec PSU isn't going to hack it...you need to upgrade it badly...
I didn't install the windows drivers before I installed the ATI drivers. And I have System Restore turned Off.
BTW my ATi card is built by Sapphire. I have also tested ATI All in Wonder (Built by ATI) - same thing.
Sapphire cards caused issues early on with these motherboards...I don't recall MSI ever releasing a fix for their bootup initiation issue...I'm not thinking that this is the worst of your problems tho...memory and PSU are your worst issues atm...
My Windows XP has Service Pack 2, v.2149 (Also tested with Service Pack 1)
This won't matter at all...SP1 or 2 shouldn't have any bearing on your problems...unless of course they didn't start until you installed SP2...which is still in beta form just so you know...
I will test without sound card now. And then maybe reinstall all the drivers.
I don't think the Creative card is your problem as yet either altho I could be wrong...I would leave it out of the fray until you solve the other issues...
All in all you need a new supply first before you can go forward...then if you still have issues I would chase the memory...then I'd worry about the maker of video card, sound card then SP2 in that order...
    Good luck!!

It looks like a great board and i see some great reviews but also see alot of small issue with compadability. It looks like the 1st thing is to upgrade the bios, and hope i don't have any issue with my cable modem box (guess i could put my old network card back in and disable the mobo's built in net work if there is problems).
I don't do O\C so nothing to worry about there. My old board is an Epox and is max'd out with no future upgrade room, so that's why i'd like to upgrade.
    Thanks for any help guys.

    rider45,
If you do not need the Break Out Box from the Platinum, I would go with the onboard nVidia SoundStorm. It sounds better than the old Live! and uses less CPU Cycles.

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta Upgrade Possibilities

I think I fried the AGP slot on my K7N2 Delta-L mobo and was looking to upgrade to a new board, perhaps the Delta 2 Platinum.  Would there be any conflicts with using my old peripherals/modules from the old mobo if I upgraded?  Here is what I currently have installed:
    Athlon XP 2700+ 333FSB
    Nvidia 6600
    2X 512 Corsair XMS2700 CL2
    Soundblaster Live Platinum w/LiveDrive
Oh and if you can think of any way of troubleshooting my old board that would definitely be appreciated.  (Swapped out video cards and still no signal going to the monitor.  Swapped monitor and cables as well and still no picture.)

There were a couple things that were awry.  I was going to swap a fan in my case and it was daisey-chained off the supply that also went to my video card.  I am almost positive that my PC was unplugged when doing this.  I unplugged the fan and then booted back up.  Windows came up but all of the graphics were a shade of blue.  I quickly shut down and checked everything and it appeared that my VGA line was not secured properly(I had recently moved my PC).  Resecured it and replug the fan and received no signal to the monitor.  I swapped out my video card with my old one and still no signal.  Attached my PC to a different monitor and cable and again no signal.
Any ideas?  I will check the d-bracket when I get home from work today and see if it is reporting anything unusual.

  • Fsb overclocking...what does it actually change? (K7N2 delta-L)

    Hi all,
I got my new mobo K7N2 delta-L, and I've heard some talk that it should be safe to OC fsb with this mobo as it wouldn't change any other speeds than only the speed of cpu.
So I'd like to hear how it really is, if I change the fsb does it have any impact on pci or most importantly ide devices? In bios I can set the speed of AGP and memory manually so I guess the fsb doesn't affect to them. But does it then if I don't set memory manually and set it to AUTO or SPD? Most importantly I'm asking what about the IDE, now as I understand pci speed is the same as IDE speed, and there is option in bios "AUTO detect pci clock", if I set that to enabled, does that mean that my hard drive and cd-rom speed always stays the same (33mhz) nomatter what I change my fsb? Please someone give me detailed information on how changing the fsb on K7N2 delta-L works and everything that it affects, or does it really only affect on cpu speed as I've heard. Thank you very much already!

Just from my experience upping the fsb also ups your PCI
cards, AGP video,CPU and last but not least memory.
I think the most gain is in memory benches. The CPU doesn't jump much but the memory is very noticable.
Upping too far can and will lead to a non posting computer,
the tough part after hours of experimenting is to try and play your games without addition problems.
I was O/C'd very well but had to quiet it all down to play Grand theft auto Vice city.
Had trouble with the O/C on that one alone, all else was fine with 446fsb 223x10.5 but had to wave it all good bye for the sake of the game.I like the game so near stock is what I'm running now.
I did however just upped my video card to a Radeon Pro 9800 and wait for it and hope I can reclaim some O/C but heck with that card I may not need it.
