K7n2 delta ilsr with kingston pc333

Owning a MSI K7N2 DELTA ILSR with an AMD ATHLON XP 2800+ and 512mb DDR KINGSTON (KVR333X64C25/512).
I like to run the motherboard with a FSB of 166MHz, with a 12.5 multiplier.
Setting the FSB/DRAM to 1:1 gives no troubles at all.
But FSB/DRAM 1:2 will lock up the booting process and the only way to escape the black-screen-of-nothing is to reset the bios with the jumper :-(
This way I run half the speed my memory is capable of!
Somebody a suggestion?

memory and cpu uses ddr to transmit data.
double data rate.
it means it sends data twice each clock cycle instead of one.
166mhz true transfer rate becomes 333mhz virtual transfer rate.

  • K7N2 DELTA-ILSR AND DDR-RAM

I got K7N2 Delta-ILSR, the last bios version, and
2x256 twinmos pc3200 ram. The 50% of the times the computer startes without problems, but the other 50% it gets hang up when I start the computer and the "d-Leds" indicate:" the memory module is damaged or not installed properly".
I know that the ram-modules works, but not with this Motherboard.
I need to get new ram-modules.
Somebody have the K7N2 DELTA-ILSR, with ddr-ram that works ??? (not K7N2G- IL and ILSR)

  • K7N2 Delta ILSR and XP2500+ - strange overclocking problem

    Relevant configuration data:
    - K7N2 Delta ILSR (with 7.6 BIOS version)
    - Barton 2500+ (AQXEA)
    - Arctic Silver 3 thermal compound
    - GlobalWin CAK 38 (7000 rpm DELTA, all copper)
    - 2x512 MB Corsair XMS cmx512 3200c2 (it should run 6-3-3-2 at 200MHz on AMD systems according to older documents, and on 6-3-3-2.5 at 200MHz  on AMD systems according to newer documents)
    - PSU Enermax EG465P-VE (430W)
    - Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128MB
    - Battlefield 1942 game
    I have 2 seperate problems:
    1. When I try to set my proc on 13x166 (Barton XP3000+) BIOS won't recognise that settings and it gives me real-clock rate of 833MHz (and no name, just "Athlon XP"). Just a note, when I set proc to be XP2600 or XP2800, everything is great in BIOS and in real conditions (Windows, Battlefield). I had 7.4 version of BIOS and I tried with new 7.6 version and nothing has changed (as I suspected). Can someone help me about this ?
    2. Second problem is a bit more serious.
I'm having problems setting my proc to work with 100% stability on 200MHz FSB speed.
    This is what's going on:
    - Behaviour in Windows is pretty much good (no random restarts).
    - Sometimes (on rare occasions) blues screen appears when I'm in windows or some program. Last time when it appeared it said something about "memory managment". I tried to lower memory settings but nothing seemed to be better.
    - If I try to freshly install windows on 200 MHz FSB in 98% of the cases installation will be abrupted (blue screen or resets) or it won't even start to install.
    - What's bothering me the most is this: Battlefield 1942 is crashing on regular basis. Sometimes it can hold for 5 minutes, sometimes 20 minutes, sometimes half an hour. But on certain moment, puff, and I'm out in Windows. Not a computer restart, just it throws me on desktop.
I've been checking the temperature on regular basis when I'm playing. It is always low.
I've tried to raise core voltage all the way to 1.8v, but same thing happens.
I've tried to lower memory settings, but I get same BF crashing.
I don't know what else to do or what other component to acuse for instability.
Can somebody please help me ?
    Thank you in advance !

I drove the memory according to the Corsair's specs, and I drove it on lower settings also. No change.

also you may wish to go up to 2.7 volts for your ram, and 1.7 volts on your processor to add stability, remember sometimes you have to go up gradually a step or two at a time and keep it there for a day or two before you reach your top OC.
I might try upping ram voltage but that doesn't sound good, because it IS DDR 400 memory (an excellent one too !).
It's not like I'm trying to drive it over 200MHz. 200MHz is this memory's normal frequency.

  • Horribe sound out of k7n2 delta ilsr

Ive got a k7n2 delta ilsr, with 7.6 bios. ive had this problem for as long as i can remember having this board. It originally had 7.0 bios. Using headphones with the out jack on the back, the sound quality is fine. If I hook it up to my reciever Via a stereo/composite adapter, it sounds like total crap. There are low volumes, and a horrible squealing noise coming out of the center channel. If i turn my reciever to stereo and not surround, it still sounds crappy and low volume. Ive tried everything, looking for shorts on the mobo to the case, and nothing. Its been there forever. Ran mobo out of case, still there. Im beginning to thing that it might be damaged and I might have to rma. What do you think

    Hi,
This could be a feedback problem. Do you have a microphone attached? If so either disable it or turn the Mic volume down using the Windows sound options.
    Just a thought!

  • Someone plz help me with my k7n2 delta-ilsr

    Hey everyone,
I just put my sytem togother and ran into a problem.  I got the system to boot up just fine.  It was not until I tried installing windows xp proffesional that  I ran into problems.  The installation process runs pretty smoothly, until the computer reboots to run windows for the first time.  After it reboots the windows logo appears and the after 2 seconds or so, a blue screen appears saying that windows was shut down to prevent any damage to my computer.  I have never encountered this problem before when I built other systems.  The screen suggests that I should check my HDD's for viruses or check to see if they are configured correctly.  The HDD's are SATA and I have them set up in RAID 0 mode and yeah I installed the RAID drivers during the installation process.  Thinking that I had made mistake setting up the SATA drives, tried installing windows using a regular IDE hard drive and it gave the same message.  I am stumped anybody have any ideas of what I might be doing wrong?  Any help would be appreciated .  My system specs are below.
    MSI k7n2 delta-ilsr mobo
AMD 3000+ Athlon XP cpu (333 fsb)

Memory that comes with timing of 5 2 2 2 or 6 2 2 2 or usally winbond BH-5 memory chips. Ones with 5 3 2 2 or CH-5 winbond chips. The BH-5 chips overclock a little better than the CH-5. (Muskin uses BH-5 winbond in there black ram)
Winbond is no longer making BH-5 chips but is going to make a limited run of them as demend is high for them.
The first number shown here is the Traz and it controls the flush timing bench testing is showing that a higher number of 9, 10 or 11 or getting better bench results than the 6 or 5. Thats with Dual Channel memory.
The timing you show probly should be something  like 8 3 3 3 or 8 3 3 2.5 unless it is there faster Dual channel ram.
The timing numbers can also appear like this 2 2 2 5 the high number is the Traz either way.
Look on your memory manufactor web site for the timing that if should run at also look at the voltage as this can make a big differance.

  • HyperX with K7N2 Delta ILSR

I start a new thread because the topic could be interesting to other posters too.
From the MSI website we can see that Kingston DDR is recommended by MSI
but a lot of users here use other brands such as Corsair, Mushkin etc.
    WHY?
    and
WHY MSI does not recommend Corsair and Mushkin?
I believe both are reasonable questions.
And now lets move to the critical question.
Does the Kigston HyperX (PC3200) 400MHz (KHX3200)-CL2 will work smoothly with the
    K7N2 Delta ILSR?
    Any input is appreciated.
    Thanks

    msi_ole,
I have 4 computers here in my home office with various configs in them...way too numerous to list in a signature...my main system that I use for gaming is what is in my signature...I have the K7N2G-ILSR (non Delta) board in my testbed system...I have an MSI Ti-4600 Video card in another one of them...so I DO use MSI parts but I really like the combo of what I show in my signature much more than any other combination that I put together with all of this hardware...The system below is the fastest combo I found and it's that way even with no OCing so why wouldn't I go with it?
Also having this ASUS board let me know that not only MSI has issues with their nF2 chipset build because I've had to jump thru many hoops for various things with the ASUS board too...most of their problems are with the dual onboard network cards and memory issues which isn't really different than any of the other mfg's out there...I like to tinker with as much of this stuff as I can to see if it's one mfg or all of them and imho and from my tests it's NOT just MSI having this problem it's all of them...
What I said about Kingston has been their norm for years now...I used to own a computer store and they ALWAYS back out when they have issues...it's their way cause it's easier on them than having to actually fix something it seems...I don't like them and probly never will because of my experiences with them in the past...this is just my opinion and take it for what it's worth...
ALSO, if you had read my sticky post at the top of the forum you'd see that I recommend that you DO NOT follow MSI's recommended memory list as it could have been that they got a batch of modules that actually did work in the 1 or 2 boards that they tested them in...batches of memory differ highly in specs and those lists mean nothing to me when I buy memory anymore...gets me in the ballpark and nothing else...so take them with a grain of salt because NOTHING in electronics is absolute...parametric differences of electronic parts can leave you scratching your head for days when you just KNOW that something should work...it's the way it is...
My background in electronics is quite extensive starting with my DeVRY degree thru Guidance & Control Systems for Jets and Missiles to Memory Testers & VLSI testers used to test Intel/AMD CPU's and the memory we use in these beasts that we love to play with so much...
I've seen so much crap happen over the years I'm here hoping that I can help everyone and learn some stuff myself on the way...
    Cheers!! 8)

You first need to make sure you have the promise controller drivers installed for it to recognize the hard drive. The system should have came with a floppy disk with the drivers on it........Make sure your boot order is floppy drive/cdrom drive/sata/scsi........boot to the XP cd after you have the sata controllers installed......then run the XP disk setup partion/format/install.........after installation you can set boot order as sata/scsi as first boot device.

  • HELP me with my K7N2 delta ilsr

Can anyone help me with this problem. I have just upgraded to MSI's K7N2 delta ilsr motherboard. Its all working quite well apart from the fact that the pc wont start up from cold....at all.
When I start the pc from an off state, it runs up the fans and drives, but does not post.
The diagnostic led pannel on the back of the pc shows that the cpu is faulty or not installed correctly.
If I then press the reset button, the pc posts, and boots up just fine.
It does this EVERY time I start up.
I have tried re installing the cpu, which is an XP 2800+ 333 barton, but to no avail.
I have asked a few questions on other forums, but I cant solve it.
These are the suggestions so far.
    1. the psu (I have a Tsunami 400 atx psu) could not be giving out enough power on initial startup, but once the pc is running, it has enough to boot the pc from a reset.
    2. The mobo or the bios could be at fault. I have not flashed the bios, or upgraded it in any way from original, so is there an issue with the original bios on these boards, and 2800 barton chips??? Could it be a mobo fault? The pc runs fine once the machine is booted.? how do I test it?
    3. The cpu could be faulty? but would this not stop it running fuull stop?
    4. my ram. I have a single stick of OCZ 512mb pc3200 ddr, which I was told would make the pc fly. Not shure on that statement, but is this ram compatible?? could this be the problem?
Im fairly new to the upgrade side of things, and I need some help with this one.
Also, Id be really greatfull if some one could talk me through flashing my bios to the latest version, as the thought of doing this narks me a bit...I dont want to mess it up and get a dead pc...

  • G4Ti4200-VTD64 voltage incompatibility with MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR??

    Hello,
I have the MSI G4Ti4200-VTD64 (4X) video card..  I want to upgrade my motherboard to K7N2 Delta-ILSR. Is there any voltage incompatibility?? I heard that new mother boards will support only AGP 1.5V. Is the AGP voltage of K7N2 Delta-ILSR 1.5volts??  Is my video card compatible with this voltage?? I really want to retain my current video card as I am quite satisfied with it and I'm not willing to invest on a new one at the moment. If there is an incompatibility could you suggest another Socket A MB with good performance and SATA RAID support.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Joseph

    Joseph,
All 4X Vid Cards work on all 4X and 8X mobos. All 4X mobos work with all 4X and 8X Vid Cards.

  • Problem with K7N2 Delta-ILSR, please help

First off, these are the specs for the computer to which I shall be referring in this post:
    K7N2 Delta-ILSR
    AMD 2700+
    1x512MB PC3200 Memory Corsair CM64SD512
    Seagate Barracuda 80GB 7200RPM SATA ST380013AS
    ATI 9600 Pro
    400 Watt power supply
    Cendyne 52x cd burner
Here's what happened.  I installed everything with only minor difficulties, mostly due to getting the hard drive to work.  They were worked through with little problem due, in large part, to this forum.  I installed Windows XP, and we ran a number of things with no problem after the OS installation.  The drivers for the video card loaded well.  3DMark2003 ran beautifully.  After I got that working, I went to put my friend's old hard drive in as a slave, so he could get the files off of it.  This seemed to work well enough.  Then we went to load the drivers for the motherboard.  When it got to the audio driver, we got the old "blue screen".  Then the computer reset and tried booting 98 from the old hard drive.  We shut down and disconnected the old hard drive.  Then we restarted to find that after the second screen XP would not begin to boot.  After some playing around we decided it best to reinstall, because with no combination could we get the OS to boot up.  So we reinstalled, with a full format.  This time, the first thing I went for was the motherboard drivers.  It stopped at the audio driver, again, and gave us the old "blue screen", again.  This time, instead of stopping the boot after the second screen, it came up with this message
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated before we decide what to do next.  Please let me know if any more information is required.  None of the bios settings have been altered, save to boot from the CD.
    Thank you,

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta ILSR - Do i have to have raid with sata drive

    Hi guys,
Probably a really stupid question, but here goes
My machine has 1 ide HDD and 1 SATA HDD.
The SATA drive is set up as raid0 and is purely used as a data disk. The OS(win xp pro sp1) is on the IDE drive
The only way i could get the SATA HDD recognised by windows, was to set up a raid array with just the 1 disk.
Pretty useless raid array i know.
Did i have to do this or is there a way to have the sata hdd usable without having to set up a raid array
    Thanks

  • Need help with jumper settings for k7n2 delta ilsr

I have a k7n2 delta ilsr and I'm using a AMD 2800+ barton 333 fsb. I'm not sure what the jumper settins are for this cpu. The users guide only shows 133/166 and 200, can anyone help me with the jumper settings.
    Thanks, Ron.

    Hi,
As your processor is 333FSB - the jumper should be set to 166FSB as should the BIOS. As your RAM CPU combination runs at 2x166=333 or thereabouts.
Basically, as a general rule, if you halve the FSB speed of your processor you'll get the setting for both BIOS and Jumper. 200FSB=100, 266FSB=133, 333FSB=166 etc. etc.
