K7N2 Delta-L: sound software utility?

K7N2 Delta-L: sound software utility?
I want to set the back panel to 6 or atleast 4 channel audio, however the manual says that after you've run the nForce driver setup there should be a software utility you can run to set onboard audio options.  The only audio options availiable though are the windows XP default.   I've reinsalled the drivers, but the software is not loading. I'm sure this is a common error and would like your input.  Thanks

Alright...I'm an Idiot. For any other idiot, a link to the thread with the solution is below:

  • K7N2 Delta Onboard Sound Disable Question

I have a K7N2 Delta motherboard with a MSI FX5600 256MB DDR video card.  I am currently using the onboard audio.  Ever since I first built this computer I have been having nearly every game I play on it lock up and freeze.  I am thinking that it is a sound issue that is causing this problem, so I want to install a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live.  I have several questions that I hope someone can answer as I have exhausted all avenues and still don't have any answers.  Here are my questions:
       1.  How do I disable the onboard sound?  ie  Which jumper is it and what are the
            jumper settings?
       2.  Which PCI slot is recommended for installing the sound card so that I won't
            any IRQ conflicts?
       3.  Is this actually an audio problem or is there something else wrong with this
            motherboard or video card?
This is becoming very frustrating because when the computer locks up all I can do is just reset without shutting down.  I'm becoming more and more worried that if this continues unabated I'm going to crash the hard drive and have to replace it only to have the problem persist.  I hope someone can give me specific answers to my questions.  Thank you in advance for your help.

First. Is it K7N2 Delta-L or Delta-ILSR (the one with an actual Soundstorm chip on it)? If you have the actual Soundstorm chip, use it! It will sound much better than an SBLive. Assuming you have the normal K7N2 Delta-L like I have:
    1. To disable the onboard sound, first uninstall the drivers for it, then you need to go into the BIOS by holding the Delete key while you boot up. Then find the section "Integrated Peripherals" and in that section "Onboard Devices". Press Enter and find AC97 Audio and disable it. There are no jumpers.
    2. PCI slots 1, 2 and 3 are usually not shared with other stuff like you AGP or USB ports. PCI Slot 3 is the ideal choice. 1 is usually covered by your video card fan anyway. For the SBLive, on Windows XP/2000, get the newest drivers from Creative Labs. The file is named "LiveDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe" and it's file size is 23.3 MB (24,451,404 bytes). They have fixed the "nforce2 + gameport incompatibility".
    3. The problem may be audio related...or not. Which drivers are/were you using for your onboard audio? nvidia or Realtek? Actual Soundstorm chip or crappy software codec? It could also be video card related. Fastwrites? 8x or 4x AGP?

  • K7N2 Delta, upgrade to Win XP, no sound

I have a K7N2 Delta with Nvidia Nforce2 and onboard 5.1 sound, Athlon XP 1.25Ghz
I upgraded from Win98se to Win XP Pro yesterday.  I have the full install version ("for Win95 or earlier or PCs without windows") but it allowed me to install as an upgrade.  It warned me that there would be a problem with the sound... and now that I've upgraded, I don't seem to have any sound installed at all.
One of the things that I've tried is to download the latest audio package from Nvidia's web site at http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_audio_4.57_win2kxp
When I click to Open this program, Win XP wants to open it with Win Media Player (I have no idea why).  When I instruct the computer to unzip it using an actual zip utility, I end up with a folder with a bunch of files, including two uninstaller programs, but no installer program or any explanation of what I'm supposed to do next.  When I try to install a new program from the control menu and direct it to this folder, Win XP itself is confused because it can't find an installer program.
I'm not entirely sure that this will solve my problem in any case, but their drivers were reccomended by someone on the City of Heroes boards who had a similar-sounding problem.     When I look at sound in the control panel it appears that nothing is installed, so I assume that installing the right drivers would solve my problem.  Only I can't seem to get there from here...

    Hi,
Jacoband: You may like to start your own thread with this question!
You might also like to inform us of what hardware you are using - it would be interesting to know which motherboard you have as you haven't mentioned it!
You need to make a list of all your hardware and then repost.
Btw, I'm guessing here but to answer your question I'm pretty sure the answer is no! The jumper position only allows for use of front or back....not both!
But as I say as I don't know what you're using so I can't be sure!

  • K7N2 Delta ISLR lock-up sound

    Help!
I just got a K7N2 Delta ISLR and installed it in my system. Over the course of a few painful days I've realized that system has a propensity to lock up after I load the sound drivers for the motherboard. If I don't do that the system is completely stable but of course I don't get sound. I get this problem even when I'm only using one hard drive with nothing else in the system.
I've followed liquidsoul's NForce 2 Installation How To guide on www.AMDMB.com's forum but to no avail. Has anyone encountered this problem or know how to fix it?
    Thanks!
    My system specs are:
    K7N2 Delta ISLR (newest bios)
    1400 Athlon
    2*128 DDR 266 (generic)
    Plextor 12X burner
    Pioneer 10X DVD-Rom
    80Gb WD HDD 8Mb
    40Gb Maxtor HDD
    40Gb Maxtor HDD
    Promise Ultra 100
    Windows XP Pro SP1
Logitech Cordless Optical (keyboard & mouse)

    Thanks Deathstalker & scooter787b!
When I set up the PC originally I only had one hdd in it and I did not install the promise card (you have to install them later because I've found I need to flash the bios of the promise cards so that it will be recognized by windows XP) so I guess I did do the KISS principle (I've learnt my lesson the hard way before).
That said I did the installation thing and everything looked fine. However, the lock-ups occur at no particular interval so after 3 hours and nothing wrong I installed most of the other hardware booted it up and it seemed good. But a day later the lock-ups started happening. Even removing the extra hdd and promise (btw I did put the promise card in PCI 3) card did not help (I went all the way back down to one hdd and still got the problems). I went through many reinstallations of Windows XP SP1 as well.
During the process of elimination I even bought a nice OCZ Dual DDR EL Kit but that didn't help. Also, I changed from my 350W enermax to a new 450W enermax. Problem did not stop happening. I know the hard drive I was using is in good condition.
In terms of drivers I tried the ones that came with it, 2.03, 2.45 and the realtek ones.
After 7 days of painful elimination I'm leaning towards the problem being the board.

  • Horribe sound out of k7n2 delta ilsr

Ive got a k7n2 delta ilsr, with 7.6 bios. ive had this problem for as long as i can remember having this board. It originally had 7.0 bios. Using headphones with the out jack on the back, the sound quality is fine. If I hook it up to my reciever Via a stereo/composite adapter, it sounds like total crap. There are low volumes, and a horrible squealing noise coming out of the center channel. If i turn my reciever to stereo and not surround, it still sounds crappy and low volume. Ive tried everything, looking for shorts on the mobo to the case, and nothing. Its been there forever. Ran mobo out of case, still there. Im beginning to thing that it might be damaged and I might have to rma. What do you think

    Hi,
This could be a feedback problem. Do you have a microphone attached? If so either disable it or turn the Mic volume down using the Windows sound options.
    Just a thought!

  • K7N2 Delta No Raid or Sata - Refuses to install OS

    Hi
From what I gather, I think I have bought a bit of a tricky board and hopefully some fine people in here may help me resolve my dilemma.
    The Mainboard:
MSI K7N2 Delta without RAID or SATA.
    The Components to be installed:
Athlon MP 1800+ completely bog standard
    S3 S8 Nitro 256 8x AGP
    2x256 paired PC2700 Micron DDR DIMM's
Benq 16x DVD Writer Secondary Master
Maxtor 40Gb IDE Diamond Max HDD Primary Master
IDE Cables are extremely high quality ATA133 jobs.
    Power Supply:
Brand New Delux 450 Watt with home built power conditioning throughput - Extremely little fluctuation even under massive load!
This little lot above is sitting in my Asus A7V333 mobo, it is a brilliant little setup but I intend to open the 1800 up or crank up a Duron Applebred which a friend had performing like a dream when he unlocked it...
    The Issue:
I have been building and playing with PC's since I built my first Sinclair ZX80 way back in the 70's, so I know what's what in a box.
I put the mobo in the case, connected it all up, connected it up and hey presto, a POST screen and I managed to get into BIOS.
    Then it died...
Waited the requisite ten to fifteen seconds after turning the PSU off, again, shut down.
I checked the J10 and J11 jumpers, set J10 to safe (100Mhz) leaving J11 closed, we have a stable BIOS but a CPU that is running at 1150Mhz and no manner of messing with the frequency settings will move that Mhz up.
So I decided to persevere, put XP in, started to load, go to the message "Setup is starting Windows" and again it shut off.
    Odd!
Took out one of the mem DIMMS, reset J10 to 133/166, shut off, reset, moved the DIMM to another slot, and again, off it went and so forth.
Changed the memory to a Kingston 128Mb, again powered off.
Put an ATi Radeon 9250 in it... same old same old...
A Nvidia GeForce 2 MX replaced the ATi, beginnning to look at smashing the thing to pieces in frustration, dies at either startup or "Setup is starting Windows"
Pulled the DVD drive, still the same, did all this with the FSB set to 100Mhz, got as far as Setup is starting Windows and died.
Found a stock XP 1800+, stuck that in, followed the above and stil it would either go past BIOS screen in 133/166 or would crash at "Setup is starting Windows"
Now, why have I not sent this board back...?
I took it round a friends, who stuck a 2400+ in, some crappy old Samsung memory, his case has "El Cheapo" stamped on the PSU and the bloody thing powered up right as rain...
So we reflashed the BIOS, used the manual again to set it up for the 1800+ and I brought it back, no go...
Ye Gods, This is a sore trial indeed and I am beginning to regret being coaxed into taking this board on, playing Need For Speed Most Wanted on my Asus looks superb (the S8 Nitro is a really underrated card).
Any ideas before its "Hammer Time"..?
    Ancient One

    Hi
I only have PC2700 unfortunately being somewhat misled by Crucial that my FSB would run at 333 if I put it into the Asus.
I have rejected the GeForce because it really looks 'orrible running under the board, it may be failing in any case but the artefact seems to be there only when installed to the MSI, on the Asus, it runs perfectly and gets a reasonable score on 3dMark 2001 for what it is.   Being an MX means that even though its bigger spec than some GF3s , the memory is a lot lot older claiming to be DDR when in fact it is early SD.   The Abit Radeon 9250 is my trusty reference card as it can stoop to 2x if need be but will run in all sockets but doesn't perform as well in any way with the S8 Nitro which apperently has futureproof tech in anticipation of DX10.
The board I have, has 5 pastel green jumpers, CMOS clear at 1-2, J10 & 11 plus two down the bottom left that I can't find reference to in my manual, I suspect these are to do with the sound and USB capabilities so thought to check what these were.
The BIOS flash didn't change anything and in the BIOS I noticed that I was getting thermal readings from the temp sensor so thats out of the window as well.
FSB settings I have tried are 9 x 166, 11.5 x 133 and variations in between trying to make up 1534 or thereabouts.
I am wondering of a pinout mod to the XP socket might do the trick if I can out the FSB locks, I noticed that I cannot change the voltage Vcore to 1.75+ which is the juice that the Palomino needs, it is stuck on 1.60+ thus undervolting it somewhat, on the Asus there is a jumper for freeing the volting up, I wonder if there is anything the same on the MSI...?   I tmight be detecting the MP as a mobile and then finding it locked thus not able to process the chip as it should be eg less volts and variable rates of frequency... Hmmm
There is more though...  I found an old Duron 950, ran the system up on 100FSB and the second jumper open and vóila, went past the point of "Setup is starting Windows" and began to install on the HDD.
So it is looking increasingly like a conflict with the Athlon's of the 1800 variety...
On an aside about temps, I found that an hour on Prime95 can "cook" the artic silver and gain anything up to a 4 degree average cooler temp, I also use S2K bus disconnect software as well as them Palomino cores don't like switching themselves off into the halt states do they?
BTW Delux state that the PSU should exceed the given expectations but I wonder about this as I had to condition the output because it was quite wide in its fluctuations on the scope, I found a thing on the net on how to condition the output, so that it never drops under the expected voltage but can freely be drawn on as demand requires.   The advantage of the Peliter kit was I could run other fans directly off it leaving the 12V rails with less demand but pulse emulators are never as good as a 2700rpm rotor in keeping the board assured that a fan is spinning.   The MSI board isn't exactly abound with fan plugs...
    Thanks all again

  • Another K7N2 Delta reset issue

After having a good look through the forum today I believe this will be an all too familiar issue.
Recently purchased K7N2 Delta (not the ILSR) along with XP 2500 Barton and 512mb PC3200 Kingston RAM.  Put all of the kit together with no real problems (apart from the frightening ammount of pressure I had to apply to the Aero 7 screwdriver clip to get it to lock onto the mount).  Installed Windows XP Pro SP1 with no problems installed all of the updated drivers with the MSI update util and installed the most recent certified driver for the vid card from Nvidia homepage.
PC booted OK changed FSB to 166 in order to recognise the XP2500 installed MSI CPU monitoring software.  CPU temp in BIOS around 38C, and from software approx 40C (idle). All looked great!
However, I then installed No One Lives Forever 2 set all the details to high (OK on my old PIII 700) and when I attepmted to run the game PC reset itself  (as if the reset button has been pressed).  Tried it again on low detail setting the game ran for a bit longer (approx 1 min) and then reset again.
An error is reported in the Event log (event ID 1003 source system error) I have checked this on Technet and it appears to be a generic hardware error.
So I think it may be 1 of 3 things.
    1. Cr@p PSU (I will add the details below)
    2. Dodgy/incompatible memory (I have heard that the Kingston can be a bit hit and miss with this chipset.
    3. Overheating CPU. I was a little bit stingy when applying the Coolermaster Premium Thermal paste, but all of the monitors a reporting that the CPU is relatively cool.
Details of the PSU are as follows..
Eagle 350W. Mod DR-b350ATX (supplied with case)
    +3.3v  -  28a
    +5v     -  35a
    +12v   -  16a
    -5v  -  0.3a  -  1.5w
    -12v -  0.8a -  9.6w
    +5vsb - 2a - 10w
I am leaning towards a weedy PSU but some advice would be great!  Thankyou for your time.
    IllPhil.

Right.  Ive just checked the cooler and it appears to be mounted the right way round (clip on the outside of the Motherboard and looks flush with the cpu).
I did however change the FSB/DRAM ratio from By SPD to 1:1 and this appears to have done the trick.  POST now reports 'DRAM clock for DDR 333' and NOLF2 loaded with highest detail settings and played without a hitch for about 1/2 hour.  Also tested OK with BurnTest and 3dMark2003 (p!ss poor score of 1699 though but ill have to tinker with the driver and maybe overclock a bit to get that up).  So it looks like you hit the nail on the head their Wonk.  Could you recommend some stress testing software I could try so I can give it a good soak test?
Oh and I almost forgot the PSU combined wattage figures are 200w, 192w and 330w.
    Thanks again.
    IllPhil

  • Soundstorm won't open! nForce2 k7n2 Delta-ILSR

    Yo guys.
For some reason my Soundstorm control panel wont open.  Every time i try and open it encounters a problem and needs to close before the window even shows up. In the past I've also had problems where my onboard LAN and sound devices disable themselves.  It's a confusing problem, basically even if i try and reset things, like ipconfig /release /renew, it says that i can't renew it because the file needed for it isn't anywhere to be found.
If you need any more information, just ask and i'll give it to you.
    -d1git

I'm having a similar problem.   I lost my 5.1 sound and it can't be solved by completely uninstalling drivers because that can't even be done.
    Specs are as follows:
    MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR
    AthlonXP 2500+
    1gig RAM
    ATI Radeon 9100 128mb
    WD 120GB HD
    WinXP SP1 + updates
When I first built this thing a year ago, the sound, nForce sound control panel worked fine on SP1.  About a month ago, I had some issues with the onboard LAN which led to a reinstall (under the "upgrade" option).  The "LAN problem" turned out to be a NIC/hub hardware compatibility issue, so it's irrelevant here.  After it got done installing, I lost all sound.  When I double-clicked on the nForce sound control panel, an error of SndStorm.exe came up.  I tried to install over the drivers with the new unified drivers, but the nVidia setup program starts up, gets to 100%, then does nothing.  I uninstalled the Dolby MCP and audio controller through the device manager, but before the computer restarts after an "uninstall," a box popped up saying something about "uninstall failed" but Windows shuts down too fast for me to read the rest of the error message.  Did this several times.
On subsquent sound driver uninstall/reinstalls, it's been hit or miss.  Windows would detect the devices and use the drivers it finds (or if I direct Windows to the driver files I downloaded).  Sometimes I get sound from the front 2 speakers and the sub, sometimes I get no sound.
So I tried to reinstall ("upgrade") WinXP+SP1 again, then I went to add/remove software and got rid of all nVidia drivers, restarted.  I can't remove "nVidia nForce Utilities" at all.  Under the add/remove program entry, it doesn't say how many MB's the utilities take up, nothing about how frequently it was used.  When I hit add/remove, the error is simply "installation failed."  Clearly the uninstalls aren't clean, and I'm willing to go manually remove things from the registry if I have to, but I don't even know where to start.
Any suggestions on how to fix this other than a clean wipe?  Thanks.

Again though, I'm confused by people's comments.  They are saying the Barton runs in the 30-40c range, but this simply is NOT true for the general populous (if you are using internal diode temperatures).  If you are going to say that then there needs to be a distinction of some kind otherwise people are going to get confused.  I realize it's a paradigm shift, but it has to be made.  Otherwise you have tons of people (like in these forums) that freak when their monitoring software suddenly tells them they are in the 50-60c range (which for a barton chip with internal diode monitoring is perfectly normal and acceptible).  Unfortunatly it was just sprung on us with no warning that the CPU temps are now an internal diode and not an external one.
For example, my system which is not OC'd, has a lapped copper HS and water cooling with many case fans, positive case pressure, etc is still running at 40c idle and up to 50c under a high graphical load.  Under these circumstances, no one can say that I should be getting temps between 30 and 40C.
    to hossmonkey,
Yes, that information is correct as far as the highest temperatures are concerned, but I wish they would come out with suggested operating temperatures as obviously higher temps consistantly will shorten the life of the chip and induce noise.  Any idea if someone somewhere has a list like that?

  • K7n2 delta beeps during 3dmark 2001 se 330 benchmark

    hi,
i was just wondering about what happened with my k7n2 delta ilsr.  i tried to run the 3dmark 2001 se 330 benchmark.  i selected all the tests.  everthing works fine until the part where the "nature" test comes.  the graphics began to skip a lot and there are short beeps that sound at random points during the test.  the beeps only sound during the nature test and the succeding tests...
my psu is a 475 watt psu.  all my voltage levels are fine under bios and are within 3% (all of them).  my video card is a ti4200 128mb (4x) variety.  i already turned fast write off, video bios cache off, 8x off, and the aperture size is 128.
my os is windows xp pro sp1.  all my drivers are updated using live update utility including the bios.  my graphics card driver is also an updated one...
i already tried doing things under a single channel mode and dual channel mode i still get the same results.
did anyone have any experience like this?  please help me... thanks

  • K7N2 Delta: frequent Tone freeze

    Quick Overview of system
    K7N2 Delta
    400 Watt power supply
    2500+ Barton
    512 Pc 2700
    128 radeon 9500 pro
    Audigy 2 ZS
The problem started when i realized that the motherboard i bought didn't support the 4.1(5.1).  I needed the higher end version.  So i go out and buy a sound card (one listed above)  that does support it and it started just to lock up with a high pitched squeal after a random period of time.  The squeal happens in anything with sound (music games etc.)
Total lockup. I've tried everything. reformats with new drivers on sound cards and the motherboard.  Im stumped. Any had a similar problem and fixed it?
    -Thanks

The K7N2 Delta does have support for 5.1. But there is a better audio driver than the nforce one to enable this feature. Just download it at Realtek site:
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True
Maybe you could change this audigy 2 you bought for something else more usefull.

  • K7N2 Delta lock ups

    Hi there,
I've got a MSI k7N2 Delta sitting in my PC atm. But with a nasty problem. I have to keep the cpu sitting in it (AMD Barton 3000) underclocked for me to use my PC for more then 40 mins at a time. After that time, it just freezes, and the sound card (not system speaker) emits a nasty high pitched sound. Using a more intensive game, i.e. planetside speeds up the process, somethimes running for a mere 5 mins. To use the pc atm, the cpu is clocked at 1.4Ghz, instead of the over 2ghz it should be at.
    Any suggestions anyone?
    Specs:
    K7N2 Delta
    AMD Barton 3000+
512Mb Kingston DDR (on compatibilty list)
    ATI Radeon 7500
    SB! 128
    Antec 400Watt PSU

ok, after some more testing (man i love CS  ) it still locks up, but it took longer initially. It now just freezes, with no beeeep from the sound card. It may be temperature related though, as after the intial freeze, it will now only take a few minutes before it does it again. Straight after it freezes I'm getting temperature of around 50 on all monitors.
Ill whip out that TV card and give it a whirl now
p.s. case fans, i think one is in the wrong way, is the spinny side supposed to facing in the case, or out the case? cheers

I pretty much get the same error as SiliconMan (The computer that was tried to connect did not respond...)
I ended up giving up on it for the time being, just using my SMC NIC. Would be quite interested in finding out what the problem is though.
Anyone else in the same boat?
    Hi,
Your problem is not the same, SiliconMan is trying to connect with a dial-up modem not LAN. Your problem sounds like it may be configuration, do a search on this post, I'm sure you will find people with onboard LAN troubles. It's hard to troubleshoot though since you didn't provide any info about your computer. Good Luck

  • MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR Memory problems

I'm trying to burn in a system in a 50 deg C (122 deg F) room for a minimum of 12 hours.  The main system components are as follows:
    Motherboard:  MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2800+
    Memory: 2x512 OCZ PC3200 EL
My problem is that the burn-in software continues to freeze up during the memory test.  I've already contacted the software manufacturers and the software is stable.  It's a problem with the way the motherboard handles the memory.  I've tried putting the memory in dual channel configuration and changing the timing settings in the BIOS.  The SPD settings are 2.5-3-3-7.  Right now I have them at 3-4-3-8.  It's a lot more stable than it was under the default settings but it still freezes up sometime after 7 hours.  Unfortunately, I wasn't around when it froze so I don't know exactly how long it lasted.  I can say that after 7 hours, it wasn't showing any slowdown in performance.  If anyone could think of anything else I might be able to do to get the system stable, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the suggestions.  The CPU FSB is 200, so it's already matched up there.  And we have a ton of fans already.  There are two in the front, 4 inside and 1 on the back.  It's a custom case, 2u high.  The power supply is oversized and more than adequate to provide the required power.  I have four of these units running right now.  Two with 2x512 sticks and two with 1x1024 sticks.  For each combination, the memory clock speed for one is 166 and 200 for the other.  I have been loosening up the memory timings trying to get the system stable, but it still isn't.  If the power supply is good, and I'm unable to cool the system anymore due to limititions within the case, is there anything you can think of to stabilize the system.  Maybe other settings in the BIOS or suggestions on how to go about getting good timings for the memory.  Thanks.
