K7N2 delta max HDD with Window 98SE

I haven't been able to find this info on this forum so far. I'm trying to install a 160 gb Samsung HDD on the above mobo with Win98SE and I'm having a bugger of a time as the data keeps getting corrupted. I've received conflicting data that these boards will take up to 160, while elsewhere I hear 137gb is the limit. Any ideas?

Your other possible course of action here is to use the Rudolf Loew patch which resolves the issue. I have read quite a few posts which confirm that it works and overcomes the 137Gb (Win98Se's problem is I beleive 128Gb..i think) constraint imposed by win98se.
The prog is very small and only costs $10. There is a demo version which caps disk size at 145Gb. Why don' t you partition your HDD below 145 Gb and give it a try.
Here is the link by the way
http://members.aol.com/rloew1/
I will be upgrading my dual boot system (with 98se) shortly with a bigger hard disk drive and will be purchasing this prog to see if it works.
The only thing you will have is formating difficulties with the windows utilities and I would tend to ditch those as they are not flexible and go for a third party utility. I use Partition Magic but there are several others to choose from.
As you probably know there also patches for 98SE as regards Firewire compatibility, running Serial ATA drives and allowing 98se to read (but not write to) NTFS partitions.
Hope this helps
Good Luck
EDIT: I think that a pci ATA Controller card would also overcome this issue....As the regards the mobo ability to deal with HDD >137Gb (from a bios perspective), if you mobo has 48bit LBA then it will not be problematic.

dram frequency should be 1:1, particularly so if having problems like so
fsb = 166.  Also want memory bus at 166 Mhz, means ddr = 333
see if that gets rid of reboots
I have changed frequency to 1:1.......and i am actually running in dual channel now....
    my ram are running 166 with timmings 2.5 - 3 - 3 - 7
    before in single channel frequency
    my ram was running 200 with timming 3 - 3 - 3 - 8
let see for how long it keeps going.

  • K7N2 Delta (ILSR) incompatible with 200FSB?

Is the K7N2 Delta (Nforce2 Chipset) incompatible with 200FSB??... Ive seen many problems when trying to upgrade the CPU, and use a 200FSB in various forums. So, why does it keep hanging/crashing?? Might it be not really supported even though it specify it does?

From most of the posts I've been reading about this issue, the users are trying to build their systems using Value RAM from various manufacturers such as Kingston or Corsair among others...this just isn't a reality anymore in the high speed world of components...the Delta boards require a lot of power and high speed memory nowadays and a lot of the users are just unaware of these facts...
Part time builders are the most susceptible to this as they build a system every few years and think that all of the 'old' rules apply to their situation...what 'should' be isn't anymore as we continue to design and produce faster products that require faster peripherals to support them...
Getting away cheaply has been designed out of most systems and this really stems from the CPU mfg's and how MB designers have to approach BUS speeds and the like...
CDM has it right that you need to dip a little deeper these days for good QUALITY memory and peripheral items to ENSURE that when you build your new PC that you minimize these issues from the get go...if not then you're going to have a good run at testing this RAM or that RAM to find one that is cheap and will still have the speed capability to keep up with your high end MB & components...
Apacer is a good example of this...they're moderately priced and they perform very well in the sandbox with most applications that you set before them...overclocking them can lead you down a problematic path but overall they're pretty flexible from what I've seen...
Most of us here know that Mushkin is pretty infallable and will take pretty much whatever is thrown at their modules...if not calling their CS dept gets you the kind of help that most companies only dream about providing...
All in all the 'line' has risen and it will rise again and you'll see a rash of users that will complain that "This should do what I want it to do" but as is most always the case, you'll find that they're trying to build an underpowered system that requires fast peripheral components and a lot of them just aren't willing to dish out the cash required for a great white box system...
Yes I agree that it's a scam from the companies to force us to spend more of our hard earned dollars but that is the way of the world now, albeit that it's unfortunate...if you're really good at building systems tho, you'll find that you can usually come up with a pretty mid-range priced system that will blaze thru all the latest games but that only comes with buying components to play trial & error with...much like I used to do in my Computer Store years ago...these days I don't do much of that, I just buy the good stuff and save my time...

  • Clone hdd with windows 8 to ssd

HI, I've purchased a hp envy phoenix h8-1580d with windows 8 pre-installed on 25 july. Since then I've tried many ways to clone the system disk to an INTEL 330 120gb SSD but failed. At last, I decided to clean install the windows 7 Pro to the SSD, but the computer could not boot from the DVD, FAILED AGAIN. I would be very grateful if any expert here could provide any solution to solve this issue. My sincere thank in advance.
Anyway, I did contact the hp technical support and they took 2 days to work out a solution and they failed too.

Finally suceeded in cloning the HDD to SSD with EaseUS Todo Backup Free 6.0.

  • NEW Macbook air and external HDD with windows files

    Hi,
I just bought (2 days ago) my first MAC (finally). After so many years of working with windows it was time to get of the dark side . Anyway, this is not my first time around apple products (I had iphones and ipads) so I know some basic stuff like iCloud, keychain etc. I bought 13inc macbook air, 128 GB SSD.
    Now this is my problem:
Although I worked on a windows computer I was saving all my files (work related, movies, music, tvshows, photos- a lot of them) on my external HDD (500 GB). Now, when I transfered to Mac I would like to have my Word, PPT and music files on my mac but not the photos, those I would like to keap on my EHDD. Can this actually work without some work around file extensions and EHDD formating? Can I use my EHDD like this? I know that it is both for Windows and MAC (it was written on the box).

I depends in what format the external drive is formatted as to how easy this is going to be.
I bet there is a good chance it is NTFS. If so, some moderately bad news. The Mac OS can read it, but not write to it natively, unless it is a networked drive.
Sure, you can add third party functionality to the Mac, so it will write to the external drive, but I would avoid it if possible. If your drive is already formatted FAT 32, or ExFAT, then you can perform cross platform reading and writing, without issue.
Fortunately we live in a time where most external drives are now relatively inexpensive. If you don't want to, or can't reformat that drive, because you have no space to put the files in the interim (I hope they are not just in place, anyway), consider buying a new external drive for sharing purposes.
    Just my 2 cents.

  • MS6712 Video and LAN problems with Windows 98SE

Can anyone help please with a problem that’s been baffling me for weeks.I
The computer in question is a TIME Powerstation with AMD 2600+ processor with 1024MB RAM, Nvidia Geforce FX5200 and Windows XP Home.
Have set this computer to Dual Boot to Windows 98SE (Using Acronis OS Selector software).
My problem is that after many attempts, have so far been unable to successfully load drivers for the Nvidia GeForce FX5200 graphics card or to get the LAN function to work in Windows 98.
For the graphics card have tried a number of the more recent Nvidia Detonator Win98 drivers, all have either produced an error message (‘While initialising device IFSMGR: Windows Protection Error’) or a blank screen. Necessitating reverting back to the Standard VGA Driver with its maximum of 16 colours! The LAN function does not work at all in Windows 98SE, though it does in Windows XP – again suspect a driver problem.
The motherboard of this computer is a MSI Microstar MS6712. Have tried the ‘VIA Chipset 4 in 1 Driver’ to no avail.  Are any more/different drivers required for Windows 98SE?
Would appreciate any advice in what originally was envisaged as a simple task:  getting Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 graphics card and the motherboard’s built in LAN to run correctly on Windows 98.

    I have your board.
    1. Windows 98 won't recognize more then 512MB of RAM.
    2. I had problems with the FX 5200 Ultra on this board. Occasionally when I booted the system, I would get a black screen right after the post when the OS was about to load. I've been hearing a few people lately stating problems with the KT4V-L mobo and the FX 5200 Ultra. I promptly returned the card and got a Radeon 9700 Pro instead. I have never been more happy since I made that decision. I will never put another Nvidia card in this mobo again. I also had issues with the Geforce4 MX card I had. I've come to the conclusion that Nvidia sucks.
    3. Make sure your BIOS is updated to 1.9, and al lyour VIA drivers are updated. That may help you too.
    That's all I can offer.

  • Using myipoid 2gb with windows 98se

Can somebody possibly tell me if i can use my ipod 2gb with windows 98 se ? and if i can how do i do this ? thanks

iTunes is supported for Windows XP and 2000 only, so unless you upgrade your PC’s OS, you won't be fully supported and will not be able to purchase music tracks from the iTunes Music Store which is only possible through iTunes.
For just synchronizing music tracks with your iPod, you could get third-party utility such as.....
    Anapod Explorer
    XPlay
    EphPod
    vPod
....for handling the music transfer (Google for them and others). Some may not work with your OS, some might.

  • [nForce] MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR; bios, neither windows recognize IEEE1394

    Hello,
Since 2 years I have used a msi motherboard. Now since I dont have IEEE1394 of an external card anymore (Audigiy), i tried to connect my digital camera with the IEEE1394 to the motherboard. Rebooted my pc, windows doesnt recognize new hardware. i'm going to look in the bios, and see that my bios (bios 7.8) is different from the one explained in the manual (see pic). I tried to downgrade my bios to 7.2, to know if it is the 7.8 version that has the problem. but it was the same, no option for IEEE1394.
    Normally have you this:
But I dont see this option for the IEEE1394 in my bios....
Thx in advance for helping me

    Quote
He has confirmed the ports are present on the board....
I have seen this in earlier Nf2 Pre Delta boards where it was there but if you had disabled it, and then flashed the BIOS, it would dissapear. The only way to get it back was to flash to an earlier version, make sure it is enabled, then you can flash to the latest.
That is why I always clear the CMOS when starting a new build. You may have a board that may have been fiddled with, believe it or not, it does happen from time to time.
Have you tried the Default BIOS Settings Option in the BIOS? Perhaps you loaded the Performance option and that is why it is hiding?
    this worked, thx a lot

  • How to format HDD with Windows Vista to install Windows XP

Hi, i would like to format my Notebook and to put Windows XP, but when i tried to do the boot using the XP cd it doesn't recognize the HDD, the type of my HDD is SATA
I believe that I should do download the special drivers, but i didn't find the drivers in toshiba webpage
    thanks

    Hi,
I believe you need to get the sata controller drivers applicable to your laptop, onto a floppy disc.
Refer to the following forum topic for instructions with the exception of where you get the drivers from:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=25441
To get the drivers for your laptop sata controller, try the following download from intel:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/license_agr.aspx?url=/12769/a08/infinst_autol.zip&ProductID=2792&agr=Y&sType=&PrdM ap=&DwnldId=12769&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20 XP%20Professional&lang=eng
Then copy all the files beginning with ICH8 in the ALL folder of the download, to a floppy disc (refer to above forum topic).
    Hopefully this helps you out.

  • External HDDs With Windows XP SP2

Hello, Tomorrow I will be installing Windows XP on both of my macs (both run 10.5.2). I have 3 external HDDs connected to one of them, two of which use USB and one Firewire 800 (one of the USB HDDs is formated in FAT32 and the rest of the HDDs in Mac OS Extended Journaled). My question is, when I boot into Windows XP, will XP be able to see the HDDs Formated in Mac OS Extended and if so will it complain that they need reformatting? I never disconnect them, so will this be a problem?

    Welcome to the Apple Forums:
P will not see the drive formatted with in OS extended and therefore will not complain about it. You can leave them connected while in XP.
One thing I would recommend is that when you are in the process of installing Windows XP via Boot Camp then I would recommend that you remove all external peripherals with the exception of the mouse and keyboard. This will eliminate any possible complications during installation. You can attach all of them once installation of XP is completed.

My dad had a desktop pc crash, the hdd is still good but he purchased another pc and I wanted to know how to go about turning that external Hdd into a virtual machine. • Using an external hdd with windows on boot camp

Im looking into using boot camp, and was thinking about the option that you get for seeing files that you create in XP within mac OSX, well, wot would happen if i had an external hdd?
ive got one connected thru firewire, and when i use "Get Info" it tells me the format is Mac OS Extended.
Now, would that be recognised within XP, and would i be able to move/store files onto it, and then use them within OSX
If it could, then it would save me having to use a large partition for XP, and the alternative format type.
If anyone could help me out
    Cheers

You would need to ensure that both the Mac OS and Windows XP OS had read/write privileges.

No, not without third party software.

You could is you used MacDrive which will allow you to read Mac formatted disks on a Windows PC.
