My K7N2 Delta was working fine. Then it start emitting an aduible alarm. I turned of the machine, and it happened again. Now it will not boot. My screen is dead. My D-Bracket lamp shows CPU failure but I have swapped the CPUs. Still no joy.  ;( I have cleared the CMOS, no joy. What next ?

  • K7n2 delta l boot screen

i looked at other companies' similar nforce2 ultra400 mobo and found out that most of them have boot logo but mine doesn't have. even k7n2g has the feature. why doesn't k7n2 delta? i've search the bios (latest) for the corresponding setting but with no avail. tell me how to enable it!

    Hi,
Am I the only person round here to consider this a non-issue? This is the second time I've seen a thread about this in the last couple of weeks!
As far as I'm concerned the MSI "Splash" screen is nothing but an advert for MSI. Most of us at some time or another, complain when we're forced by advertisers to view their latest ads, whether it's on billboards, TV, magazines or elsewhere! But not it seems, in this case!
If it was something worth looking at - like a nice young lady or an Ansel Adams landscape then fine   - but the MSI logo - no thanks!
The minute I saw the MSI splash, I immediately went looking for the option to switch it off, and it's been like that ever since! (the small logo option too). I for one would rather see what is happening on the initial bootscreen!
Then again, when I do boot I don't usually hang around to watch it - it takes so long I can be doing other (more important) things!
Am I missing something here? Because I can't for the life of me figure out why this could possibly important to anyone?!  It just sits there for a few seconds then disappears!

i want to have somthing nice during bootup to show to my friends
    Eh???
I'm sorry friend but your gonna have to give MSI more reason to spring into action than this!

is msi going to develop a feature like personalizing bootup logo?
    many companies have that now.
Actually, you've been able to do this with many motherboards for a good few years now, but I don't think it's at the top of MSI's priority list!
    But.....who cares??

  • Please Help, K7n2 will not boot.

    Hi,
I've had this K7N2 up and running for about a year now.  It's an xp 1700 at 1833mhz.  It has fun fine and stable with no overheating problems whatsoever.  The problem is this morning I turned it on and it froze right after the cpu speed of 1833mhz was being reported.  The led code on the back indicated it freezes during "bios sign on".
--I tried moving the speed jumper over to see if I could boot up at a lower fsb and clock speed.  It froze in the exact same spot but with a slower reported clock speed.
--I then tried to clear the cmos by moving the jumper over for a few seconds with the power off and it did not clear the cmos, upon rebooting it acted as if it was still overclocked to 1833mhz.
-- I tried to clear the cmos by taking the battery out for 30 minutes with it unplugged but that didn't work either.
The question is, do you think my mobo is shot? or is it the processor?  Any ideas, I'm very open to suggestions at this point.  I noticed newegg has some newer reconditioned boards for cheap so I'm not to concerned at this point, just wondering if it can be salvaged.
    Thanks,
    Jay

What type of RAM are you using? Try one stick at a time and try relaxing the timings.

  • MSI K7N2 will not boot system.

Ok, here goes.  This is a brand new system from Newegg.com.  I have already RMA'd the board once.  Both times with a brand new board, the system will load and allow me into BIOS.  The first board simply reset itself after 12 seconds, and wouldn't come back on.  The second time, after restarting the computer (with no changes), it shows a black screen only.
The fans move, but nothing comes on the screen.  The system doesn't make any kind of usual startup sounds.
In the previous board, I tried plugging a Duron 850 (a chip I know works) into it and got the same result, so I am fairly sure the CPU is good.
    System specs:
350 Watt PSU (I believe generic)
    2X 512MB PC2700 Kingston value Ram
    AMD AthlonXP 2100+
    80 GIG HD
    20 GIG HD
    2X CD-ROM
    Radeon 9500 Pro
I have tried booting the system with no ram and nothing but the video and HD plugged in, and got no beeps.  I have tried every damn thing I can think of.  Changed jumpers, unplugged and reseated everything, used onboard video, everything.
Can anyone help?  I cannot get anything to appear on screen, a case of the system not booting.

I don't have the PC right in front of me (I'm at school now), but I do remember that it is a 350 watt PSU with a 3.3 rail that does 24 amps.
I have tried one stick of RAM.
    The weird thing:
I tried unplugging the PC and the BIOS battery for about 10 minutes.  Afterward, the computer started with my HD's and CD-ROM's attached.  However, after loading bios and switching the FSB to 133 (with my Athlon 2100+), the system wouldn't reboot.
I again unplugged and waited.  This time, I simply loaded BIOS and restarted the system.  Same lockup-no boot thing.  I repeated this twice.
I left the battery out all for around 6 hours overnight, and now the computer will not start again.  I'm sooo frustrated...

  • Another K7N2 Delta reset issue

After having a good look through the forum today I believe this will be an all too familiar issue.
Recently purchased K7N2 Delta (not the ILSR) along with XP 2500 Barton and 512mb PC3200 Kingston RAM.  Put all of the kit together with no real problems (apart from the frightening ammount of pressure I had to apply to the Aero 7 screwdriver clip to get it to lock onto the mount).  Installed Windows XP Pro SP1 with no problems installed all of the updated drivers with the MSI update util and installed the most recent certified driver for the vid card from Nvidia homepage.
PC booted OK changed FSB to 166 in order to recognise the XP2500 installed MSI CPU monitoring software.  CPU temp in BIOS around 38C, and from software approx 40C (idle). All looked great!
However, I then installed No One Lives Forever 2 set all the details to high (OK on my old PIII 700) and when I attepmted to run the game PC reset itself  (as if the reset button has been pressed).  Tried it again on low detail setting the game ran for a bit longer (approx 1 min) and then reset again.
An error is reported in the Event log (event ID 1003 source system error) I have checked this on Technet and it appears to be a generic hardware error.
So I think it may be 1 of 3 things.
    1. Cr@p PSU (I will add the details below)
    2. Dodgy/incompatible memory (I have heard that the Kingston can be a bit hit and miss with this chipset.
    3. Overheating CPU. I was a little bit stingy when applying the Coolermaster Premium Thermal paste, but all of the monitors a reporting that the CPU is relatively cool.
Details of the PSU are as follows..
Eagle 350W. Mod DR-b350ATX (supplied with case)
    +3.3v  -  28a
    +5v     -  35a
    +12v   -  16a
    -5v  -  0.3a  -  1.5w
    -12v -  0.8a -  9.6w
    +5vsb - 2a - 10w
I am leaning towards a weedy PSU but some advice would be great!  Thankyou for your time.
    IllPhil.

Right.  Ive just checked the cooler and it appears to be mounted the right way round (clip on the outside of the Motherboard and looks flush with the cpu).
I did however change the FSB/DRAM ratio from By SPD to 1:1 and this appears to have done the trick.  POST now reports 'DRAM clock for DDR 333' and NOLF2 loaded with highest detail settings and played without a hitch for about 1/2 hour.  Also tested OK with BurnTest and 3dMark2003 (p!ss poor score of 1699 though but ill have to tinker with the driver and maybe overclock a bit to get that up).  So it looks like you hit the nail on the head their Wonk.  Could you recommend some stress testing software I could try so I can give it a good soak test?
Oh and I almost forgot the PSU combined wattage figures are 200w, 192w and 330w.
    Thanks again.
    IllPhil

i have tried anything i red in this forum (clear cmos... safe mode jumper...strip all parts...)
    all i get is :
blank black display, no beeps and keyboard lights flashes over and over (when connected to a KVM hub), when conected directly to keboard the lights flashes only once but stil black display and no beeps (i hear on speake, when powering up PSU, a silent short noise, no beep).

i choosed in the bios: load bios defaults, and thats it. i hoped it starts up but nothing.
i did all testing i know (checked all pins, cables, clear cmos...all, you name it)
all parts are brand new (except motherbord. it's seconds hand from eBay. i've bean talled that it works fine)
i also e-mailed MSI support that question. (2 days ago. no answer yet)

  • K7N2 Delta ILSR Takes forever to boot.

    Specs:
    K7N2 Delta ILSR Mobo
    Athlon xp 2500
Kingston Hyper X 2700 DDR 512mb (its on the list)
Geforce 2MX 32mb AGP videocard (I dont play games)
    3 Com 56k Win Modem
    IBM GXP120 60 gig ata133 Hard drive
    Pine 12X DVD drive
    LG 24x10x48 CD Burner
    Antec 300W power supply
The problem is that it takes forever to install and boot windows with faster processors for some reason. I origianlly built this system with my old Athlon 1.33 and it had these problems.  I then tried a 900mhz athlon and it worked great, so I figured I damaged my 1.33 somehow.  I ordered a 2500+ and a zalmann cpu cooler and now am back to where I was, when the system starts it  seems very unstable and the screen goes blank for 10 minutes while its booting.  It shows about 3 seconds of the starting windows screen then the screen will go blank for a while anf there will be no hard drive activity then it will come back about 10 minutes later and then boot.  Sometimes the system will work fine then sometimes I cant even open my computer i just get the searching flashlight icon where my drives should be.  I have updated to the lastet BIOS.  Also while installing windows I get ocasional long pauses where it is doing nothing at all then it will just magically conitnue and do it in a fashion I would expect a machine of this speed to do.

Hmm not sure about the cable position on the CD drives, ill have to check that when I get home.  All the jumpers are set correcly, and the hard drive is all by itself and its on the right connector.  Thanks for the ideas, this problem is really killing me, I havent had these kind of hardware problems in years.  The thing I dont get is why it works good with the 900mhz and not with the 1.33 or 2500+

  • K7N2 Delta ILSR won't boot from FDD or HD

I have a serious problem with my new K7N2 delta ILSR based computer.
    My machine is
    K7N2 delta ILSR 400W
    3.3/25 5/32 12/15 V/A PSU
    512+256 MB A-data 3200 ram
    Athlon XP2500+
    BTC 48x24x48 Combo
    100 mb Zip int. -disabled
    120 GB Seagate barracuda SATA-disabled
    120 GB Seagate Barracuda parallel
    Triplex parasouls ATI 9600PRO 128MB
The machine POST's normally with all 4 lights doing what they should.
The Promise BIOS can detect the SATA drive correctly but when an attempt is made to write the array an error- 'error modifying array- system is going to reboot- press any key to reboot>" is given.
The M/B BIOS detects the FDD and Seagate Parallel drives correctly but when a correctly formatted XP boot disc (or Mandrake Linux or Caldera DR-DOS) is placed in the floppy drive a "no system disk" error is given.
When you F6 to install RAID drivers in the Windows XP install and the screen comes up where you are prompted to insert the floppy there is no mass storage device detected.
I purchased a new FDD and it gives precisely the same error as the original.
I installed the parallel Seagate in another system and installed and activated windows XP on it. After re-installing it in the K7N2 system I was disappointed to discover that it will not boot off the hard drive. When you boot from the XP CD the machine locks up. (Disconnecting the HD it will boot normally)
This is a real puzzle as it is possible to format the hard drive using Max Blast3- the maxtor disk utility which is based ( as is the Seagate Seatools utility) on Caldera DR-DOS). And I can't see why it should boot from a CD-ROM and not from any other correctly formatted boot disk.
I suspect a problem in either the (South?) bridge that controls the peripherals or the BIOS. I am at a loss how to re-flash the BIOS with out the use of the floppy drive- unless this can be done from a CD-ROM.
The PSU is not being strained and nForce list both RAM sticks as OK.

The Fd light behaves normally. i.e. lights up when the drive is being accessed.
has anybody else noted that the FDD is B by default- That the cables have a few wires twisted like the wires between the first and second plugs on the old cables?
The IDE 80 wire(counted!) is long end in the board- my plugs are all 3 black. You can't put them in the wrong way becaue of the centre key.
All the stands are plastic except for two brass ones that are in the centre of the board that go to circular mount pads. That is how the case came and I thought it was a design feature.
The thing I find most puzzleing is that i can boot a caldera based system that finds everything including the floppy- and read it- (provided you call it drive B!) yet naything DOS based won't go- I have this feeling that it has a screwed up DOS call that is not looking in the right disk sector for NTldr or whatever to boot. I think this is a bios problem- but I am not sure how to find out when you can't boot from the FDD.
My brother has talked to some tech friends and there word is that this is a weird one- probably a dud board RTS.

  • Boot problems with IDE HD and SATA HD on K7N2-Delta L

I'll get right to the point.
I have an PCI SATA Controller Card in my system (using a K7N2 Delta-L motherboard, BIOS v5.7 with an Athlon XP 2800+ and Corsair ValueSelect 512MB DDR400 RAM on a single stick).  My system works fine in it's original configuration of drives (CD-RW drive only drive on IDE bus, and SATA drive only hard drive).  However, upon installing my IDE hard drive from my old computer, the system will no longer boot right.  I am connecting the other IDE HD as Slave on the CD-RW's bus, as I'm reserving the second bus for bigger and better things such as a DVD burner, and speed isn't too important for this hard drive as it's just my MP3/data I don't need in a hurry drive.
In the current configuration, all three drives are detected properly (CD-RW and HD detected on the IDE detection screen, and the SATA drive detected on the SATA card's detection screen).  However, after the SATA detection screen, the system just stops.  The cursor is still blinking, but nothing comes up.
Both hard drives are Western Digitals (IDE is a ATA100 Western Digital 60GB at 5400 RPM, and the SATA is a Western Digital 36.7GB at 10,000 RPM), and the CD-RW is a HP CD-Writer 9100.  I have Windows XP installed on both hard drives (first partition of the IDE, which is divided into two), but considering the system doesn't even attempt to boot I don't think that's an issue.  I've gone through and tried enabling and disabling "Boot Other Device", but still no love.  My boot order is set to Floppy, CD-ROM, and SCSI, which works fine when the SATA drive is in there.
Any idea what's up?  I can provide more information upon request, as I'm sure there's something I forgot to mention that's important.
    Thanks.

Take a look at this link, https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=71384, I think you both have the same problem. It seems that a sata drive doesn't like having an ide drive in the system that has an active partition.
Do like Wonkanoby suggest, reformat the ide hard drive and make sure that it's not set to be the active partition in the system. Boot with a 98 boot floppy if you have to so you can format the ide drive to fat32, once you can boot up using the sata drive you can use xp disk manager to convert the ide drive to ntfs.

  • Duel boot K7N2 Delta using SATA and EIDE

I have a K7N2 Delta MB with SATA running RAID 0, also I have HD pluged into the Primary EIDE cable slot, using SC ( cable select ), everything works fine.   What I want to know is if anyone has had any luck using BOOT MAGIC (comes with Patition magic) to duel boot between the SATA and the EIDE drive.  Also I have found that once I set the SATA to be bootable AND loaded XP then I was not able to boot from any other device, floppy or EIDE. The floppy works fine when I use it once running on XP.  I have the floppy set as the first boot device the EIDE drive c: as second boot device and SCSI as third boot device, the system always boots from SCSI.  Any suggestions out there great ones?
Never mind I found the answer.
I took off SCSI from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd boot.  enable other boot and all works fine now.

Wonkanoby, You are now officially my hero. Did exactly what you said. IT WORKED. My system screams now.   Thanks.
p.s. Have you ever thought about rewriting the manual for MSI. Their documentation was confusing at best.
p.p.s Saw the other reply below about reflashing the bios. I see no need to do that. follow the instructions in the first reply and you should be good to go.

  • Argh! K7N2-Delta ILSR hangs at boot attempt

I built a new system today, everything right out of the box (except the HDs):
    K7N2-Delta ILSR
    Athlon FX 2500+ w/factory cooler
    Kingston KVR333X64C25/512
    Sapphire Radeon 9100 Atlantis
    Western Digital 60GB
    Western Digital 80GB
    Pioneer DVR106
    Antec Sonata case, 380W
After bolting it all together, the D bracket shows that the system hangs at 'Boot Attempt' (upper left LED red, others green). I've taken it apart and reassembled it, checked all the drive jumpers, reseated cables, etc. Cleared the CMOS and reset the jumper. Moved the memory to all three slots, no change.
When I turn it on, the drives spin up, fans come on, and everything seems OK. Still, nothing.
Any suggestions before I start the percussive maintenance on it?
    Thanks!

    >Thanks. Read it and think I am on track. Checked my specs and was surprised the the 80GB is 7200rpm.
check jumpers there pin 4 is slave and i assume it an 80 wire ide blue end in board
    >Right on both. Still, I am trying to boot with just one (have only tried the 60GB).
and in top one of 3 ide slots as lower is the raid one and it will not work as a regular ide nor in raid with 2x drives
    >Spot on: cable's connected to the middle of the three IDE slots. DVD is on IDE 2, but I think I will disconnect and use my trusty CD-ROM until I get up and running.
myself i use all my wd drives in cable select
    >Thanks, will try that too. I am at work, so will have to wait until I get home this afternoon to try your suggestions. Thanks again!

  • K7N2 Delta Won't Boot

    Hi All,
I'm new to the forum and I hope you guys can help me out. I'm having power issues with my box. It won't boot!!!!   This is was it does powers up then shuts right down. It doesn't boot long enough for me to check anything. It continues to do this if I don't unplug it. Please guys I dying here.
    Here's my configuration:
    Samsung CDRW
    Pioneer DVDRW
    Seagate 20g OS Drive
    Seagate 80g Data Drive
    Sound: Creative Audigy2 w/ remote
    512MB Samsung memory
I bought a brand new power supply thinking that would solve my problem. But to no avail that didn't work. So, I disconnected the power and reset cables from the motherboard and jumped the board and it still does the same thing.   And it's driving me nutts.   I checked the processor and its cool. Could it be a memory problem? I remember getting memory errors like for a week before. Sorry for the long post for a newbie to the forum.

  • K7N2 Delta Athlon 2600+ Boot Problem!!

Hey this is my first post...
    Here is my comp:
    K7N2 Delta Series MB
    Athlon XP 2600+
    Thermaltake Volcano 7+
    512 DDR PC3200
    GeForce 4 Ti 4200
I noticed that my comp is booting at 1200 mhz. My comp is reading the CPU as a 1.2. I checked the bios and turned the fsb up to 200 mhz because my friend said he read in a forum that it was ok to do so. I did this and now my comp doesn't read my video card. It boots up ok just I have no picture. I have tried resetting the bios and still I have no pic. My questions are this:
1)Am I not flashing the bios correctly, and if so what is the best way to do it?
2)Could I have permanently damaged the motherboard or video card?
3)If none of the above what do you guys recommend I do to fix the problem and what have I done to create the problem in the first place?
Well if you can please help. I really want to be able to see windows again or even the bios!
    Thanks

set jumper j10 to pins 1-2 and remove jumper j11. set cmos jumper to clear........unplug the power from wall....... press your power button to relieve any charge left in the mb.........now place cmos jumper to save......plug power back in, and try to start it.......if all goes well and it fires up set bios defaults....save and exit bios.............replace j11 and set j10 to pins 2-3.......and restart.
btw jmbook 166 fsb is also overclocking a 2600......default is 133 so take baby steps.
