K7N2 Delta Won't Boot

Hi All,
I'm new to the forum and I hope you guys can help me out. I'm having power issues with my box. It won't boot!!!!   This is was it does powers up then shuts right down. It doesn't boot long enough for me to check anything. It continues to do this if I don't unplug it. Please guys I dying here.
Here's my configuration:
Samsung CDRW
Pioneer DVDRW
Seagate 20g OS Drive
Seagate 80g Data Drive
Sound: Creative Audigy2 w/ remote
512MB Samsung memory
I bought a brand new power supply thinking that would solve my problem. But to no avail that didn't work. So, I disconnected the power and reset cables from the motherboard and jumped the board and it still does the same thing.   And it's driving me nutts.   I checked the processor and its cool. Could it be a memory problem? I remember getting memory errors like for a week before. Sorry for the long post for a newbie to the forum.

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta 2 LSR boot/power up issues

I installed the K7N2 Delta LSR mb with an Athlon XP socket A 3000+ cpu.  The computer turns on but won't boot.  Nothing appears on the monitor screen and there are no beeps.  The harddrive spins, the board has power but nothing happens. When I put my old mother board back (MSI K7T Pro266A) in with the Athlon 2000+, everything works fine.
    Maxtor 60 gb harddrive
512 MB SD pc2100 SD Ram
Abit 128 mb Radeon 9200SE Video card
    Any suggestions?

    A few things to check:
Do you have any unused stand offs in the case touching the motherboard
The XP3000 CPU is a barton core and comes in two variants, a 333FSB and a 400FSB version.  Your RAM is PC2100 which with an Nforce chipset is a recipie for problems. The NForce chipset is picky about RAM and PC2100 running on a PC2700/PC3200 processor FSB probably won't work.
Also post your PSU max amps, as a +12V rail below 16A could cause problems.
Do you have a D-Bracket connected ?  This is the PCI insert with 4 leds on ?

i did succed to go into bios only once, after lots of resets and shutdowns and bios clear (after ouers)
i choosed in the bios: load bios defaults, and thats it. i hoped it starts up but nothing.
i did all testing i know (checked all pins, cables, clear cmos...all, you name it)
all parts are brand new (except motherbord. it's seconds hand from eBay. i've bean talled that it works fine)
i also e-mailed MSI support that question. (2 days ago. no answer yet)

If your not hearing dial tone you might have your phone plugged into the wrong port. Most modems have 2 outlets, one is labeled line ( that is the one you should have plugged into the jack (RJ11C). If that's correct, query the modem and see if it tests OK, you may have a defective modem.

  • K7N2-L won't boot when CD-ROM installed

    I'm assembling a new system:
K7N2-L, Athlon XP 1800+, 48C stabilized in setup
BIOS version W6570MS V5.0 031803 (from CMOS setup)
    512MB DDR2700 RAM
    Enlight HPC-340 PSU: 3.3V@28A, 5V@30A, 12V@15A, 285W max.
I installed an old hard drive as the Primary master, WD AC38400L, that has Win95 on it from a previous system.  The jumpers on the WD drive are set to "single drive."
With an old Mitsumi 4x CD-R drive as the CD-ROM (Secondary IDE master), it boots fine from the hard disk (the Mitsumi doesn't support El Torito, so I can't test booting from a CD).
With a Sony CDU5211 (on the compatibility list) as the CD-ROM, the system won't boot at all, from CD or HD: I get the "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message.  The system appears to never try booting from the CD, even if I set that first in the boot order.
I swapped the CDU5211 with a CDU5211 in another machine; both CDU5211's work in the other machine and exhibit the same symptoms in the new one.
Both drives are detected correctly on bootup and in CMOS setup.
I have the boot order set to Floppy, IDE-0, CDROM.
There is no floppy drive in the machine (who needs one, these days?); setting the CMOS settings to reflect that does not change the symptoms.
I tried installing a new Maxtor 40GB (ATA-133) and got the same symptoms.
I'm hoping I have missed something obvious; please illuminate me!  :)

Wonkanoby and I were just saying the same thing in different ways.  He was stating the jumper should be completely removed, and I was just making the point that there is a neutral position for the jumper.  I understand that there is no functional electrical connection with the jumper there, and that it does not matter if the jumper is on those pins or in the trash can.
My point about using the MS-6378 to test the hard drive and CD-ROM was that it proved there wasn't something wrong with those or with my jumper settings on the drives.  I know it's a completely different board.
I like the specs on the K7N2, so I will probably get another one at some point (when my credit card has recovered).  I just got one with an atypical problem this time.  The discussions here of problems with the onboard LAN were what convinced me to stick with the ASUS A7V333 for now; that, and it was $25 cheaper.  I'm not looking for screaming performance ATM anyway, just something I can use for testing Windows Server 2003.  This is about the 12th computer in my home lab.

  • K7N2 Delta Athlon 2600+ Boot Problem!!

Hey this is my first post...
    Here is my comp:
    K7N2 Delta Series MB
    Athlon XP 2600+
    Thermaltake Volcano 7+
    512 DDR PC3200
    GeForce 4 Ti 4200
I noticed that my comp is booting at 1200 mhz. My comp is reading the CPU as a 1.2. I checked the bios and turned the fsb up to 200 mhz because my friend said he read in a forum that it was ok to do so. I did this and now my comp doesn't read my video card. It boots up ok just I have no picture. I have tried resetting the bios and still I have no pic. My questions are this:
1)Am I not flashing the bios correctly, and if so what is the best way to do it?
2)Could I have permanently damaged the motherboard or video card?
3)If none of the above what do you guys recommend I do to fix the problem and what have I done to create the problem in the first place?
Well if you can please help. I really want to be able to see windows again or even the bios!
    Thanks

set jumper j10 to pins 1-2 and remove jumper j11. set cmos jumper to clear........unplug the power from wall....... press your power button to relieve any charge left in the mb.........now place cmos jumper to save......plug power back in, and try to start it.......if all goes well and it fires up set bios defaults....save and exit bios.............replace j11 and set j10 to pins 2-3.......and restart.
btw jmbook 166 fsb is also overclocking a 2600......default is 133 so take baby steps.

  • KT6 Delta won't boot after clearing the BIOS

I have just put together the machine as per my signature and run into a few problems. The XP 2800 mobile is not recognised as such but as a XP1800 when I set the FSB to 133. Am I right in saying this CPU should run at 1.65 volts as it seems to wants to run at 1.75. I changed the V Core to 1.65 and it boots ok but when I tried it at 1.6 it did not want to boot, ie no video output. I no longer get the single BIOS bleep and the monitor stays on standby. This has happened before and I got it running again by clearing the CMOS and reseating the RAM but this time I have done the same and it won't boot. Is there anything else I should be doing please. Many thanks.
Having looked at the Socket A sticky I see that my diagnostic D bracket is showing 1,2 and 3 showing red and four not on at all which would seem to point at the graphics as being the problem.

    Hello!
Voltages should be set to "CPU default" or similar. Your processor comes in different versions, try setting to 166 instead of 133. Always when changing processor one should clear CMOS, by powering off, unplugging power cable, and then move JBAT jumper for a short time, a minute or so.

  • K7N2 Delta Post Bios Boot faliure

I just bought the motherboard set it all up and powered it on and all the fans spin up but make a rapid speeding up and slowing down noise.  i took the motherboard back to the shop and they replaced it and tested my new one in shop and it worked fine.  i took it home put the processor ram and gfx card in and the same problem happened again.  on the d-bracket it says its a Processor problem ive tried another processor in it and got the same problem.  also the Led's on the d-bracket flash on and off instead of being constantly on.
i am using 512mb Corsair 3200 400mhz Platinum Ram, AMD Athlon XP 2400+ also tried 1700+ to no avail and a Radeon 9700pro.  i dont understand what could be wrong as it worked fine in the shop with their ram and 1700+ cpu  ;( i could just cry.  i have also tried swapping out the power supply with another one :O any help into this problem would be greatly appriciated.

Thepower supply im using is a Q Tec 550watt Gold it is a really good power supply the only thing i could check is swap the memory around the slots and take the motherboard out the chassis and see if it works then...could be a short inside the case :'(. i have cleared the cmos memory and set it to safe 100mhz fsb.i was under the imprestion that the MSI K7N2 Delta was a good mobo i must of been mistaken :'(.  what make of ram do you guys use and where could i get some :D BTW i live in th UK (England).  im not overclocking anything either  :]

  • K7N2 Delta won't shut down...

Ok, I installed a new K7N2 Delta-L and run windows XP. Everything works great. Kudo's to MSI for their excellent instruction manual.
Windows shuts down, but then the thing reboots. I have a 350 watt Codegen psu. I've checked to make sure I don't have the reset or power sw switched around, and I don't. I switched and even reversed them just to make sure.
Is there something in bios to stop this?
Also, in case a moderator reads this post...I used Live Update to make sure I have the latest BIOS, and now do. I'm getting a difference in cpu temp readings...PC Health in the bios reads usually 10c higher than what PC ALert through windows does.
Which is correct? PC ALert 4 usually says cpu is in the low 30's, PC Health reads in the low to mid 40's...

    hi
there is an issue about the system and cpu temp readings.
some bios shows to high some to low.
low to mid 40 is nothing to worry about.
pc alert does show wrong quite often.
    get speedfan instead.

Should JPW1 connecter be used? I do not see anything to plug into it
    Help!

I found the following in a September post:
    JPW1
When MSI designed the TURBO2 board, they included the jpw1 as a just in case sort of a thing. The original atx plug is what you need to use. The jpw1 can be used too, IF your p/s has the p4 style connecter that plugs into it. If it doesn't, and you are experiencing no problems with stability, do not worry about it. This plug provides the cpu with it's own source of power. All newer power supplys that are p4 ready, come with this plug. I bought a new supply,so I use it ,but there are lots of TURBO2 owners that are not using it, and are not experiencing any problems. Good luck with your rig,BIGDADDY51 CT.USA edit: I reread your post .Plug it in it won't hurt.

  • K7N2 - System won't boot (CMOS clear does nothing)

I was trying to OC with the help of a friend. AIDA32 showed my processor running at 2000MHz (7.5 x 267). I was told that putting CPU Ratio to 12.0 and FSB to 166 would get me no OC, but that this is how it should be (?). Since I was being careful (cause of past experiences), my friend told me to set it at 7.0 and 166. Just to be safe. Anyway, I made the change and after that when I press my power button, the computer turns on but nothing happens. No signal is sent to the monitor, neither does the floppydrive do its friendly sound like usual. I was told to use CMOS clear, so I changed the jumper into clear mode, waited a couple minutes and put it back. Nothing happens. I then tried changing some parts, put a 900MHz TB in, another GPU and even tried another monitor (desperate at this time!). Now, I was under the impression that CMOS clear should do the trick, that I was safe. But since this happened last night, I even left the jumper on clear over night. Still nothing happens. What am I to do? I would greatly appreciate any help, I am totally lost here.
My system: XP 2400+ (Thoroughbred-B), MSI K7N2 (nForce2), 2x256 Kingston Hyper-X, Sapphire Radeon 9800SE AiW, WinXP Pro. Thanks for any help in advance.
P.S. A similar thing happened before, which mysteriously got fixed by changing parts left and right. I also checked a post on the forum about the multipliers being weird in the BIOS (that's what my friend thought too).

your cpu uses 15 as a multiplier so you cannot select lower multipliers without the wire trick
and if its new evan that does not work

be sure to press start before moving the jumper to clear the psu

Went into Bios setup fine and set req'd settings.
When trying to boot off of CDROM to install XP, Floppy makes the usual noise, DMI pool info comes up, nVidia boot agent appears after "Boot from CDROM" msg appears.
I'm getting a "PXE-EX61 Media test failure, check cable" msg, then "Disk boot failure" msg.
I've tried both cdr and cdrom drives together AND separately, but neither one works. I know the cable is good.
Also have tried using cdrom AND floppy as 1st boot devices, with same result. I've read 12+ pages of earlier posts and replies with only 1 post similar to mine. Tried hooking up only 1 optical drive and using the floppy as the 1st boot device as suggested, but no luck.
    Any other suggestions?

    davida62,
Try the XP CD in another comp. Make sure it is not the issue. Also you would try the drives in another comp to make sure they will boot from the CD.
When we have the answers to those questions we can proceed with the troubleshooting of your comp.
