K7N2 Delta2-LSR doesn't POST

Hi there, sorry before if anyone had asked this question before,
I have a system
K7N2 Delta2-LSR
Sempron 2600+
Adata Vitesta 2x256Mb
Winfast A250LE TD Ti4200
PATA hard drive...
i just tried to oc this system,
before : Sempron 2600+ @1833MHz, fsb 166, ram timing auto, vcore default 1.5V
1st trial : FSB 185, ram timing auto, vcore 1.55V, POST success, but i didn't boot to OS, entering setup again, wanna try higher FSB
2nd trial : at FSB 188, ram timing auto (i only changed FSB and vcore), vcore still 1.55V, my system didn't POST...
I tried to clear cmos, by moved the jumper, but it still didn't POST. Anybody help me pliz, what problem did i face?
Thank's

Do you have the manual that came with the motherboard? What kind of RAM do you have ( PC2700-333Mhz or PC3200-400Mhz)? If you are going to be increasing FSB you should have PC3200.
You will need to set the jumper on J10 to pins 2-3 (safe mode) restart PC and reset BIOS to default settings. Next turn off PC & set J10 jumper back to pins 1-2.
Before attempting to overclock again come back here for advice.
Yup, i have ram, DDR 500, but i run it at fsb 166.
what i tried is FSB at 190 Vcore 1.7V (default 1.6V) ram timing 2-3-3-7 T1
but the cpu temp is 52C (on bios)... is this normal? i only use the stock cooling HSF...
at FSB 166, temp is 47C. But i touch the HSF, not so hot like that temp, is the sensor wrong?
Anyway, on the socket A, there is an electric ribbon (sorry, i don't know the name...i name it my self ), is that the sensor for the cpu temp?
"J10" is nothing on my MoBo, i use "insert" while pressing power button, it worked just the same like "J10" works...

  • K7N2 Delta2-LSR Fsb issues

    Hello everyone, I have a 2700+ xp 333fsb @ 2.158ghz (fsb 166 x 13)
Running on a K7N2 Delta2-LSR. Preparing for a lanparty I decided to try and do a small OC, so i decided to Oc it to 200fsb x 11 (2.200 ghz) I saved and rebooted and now it will not post. I have tried all known methods of clearing the CMos, including removing the battery and clearing the cmos, waiting in times between that, unplugging and doing all that, but nothing worked. After reading other posts it seems this problem can be fixed by shorting the j10 or j11 jumper, neither of those jumpers is on my Mobo, if there is another way to reset the fsb, please help me!!
ps. All other hardware that is non essential has been removed, and all the hardware was working before, i made no hardware changes before the OC attempt. Please help before i leave for lan party! (Friday aug 6, at 6:00)
(Edit), yeah setting the fsb past 166 went over the 333 limit for my 2700+ xp. So how can i reset this?

As some of you will be aware there is no safe mode jumper J10 on the K7N2 Delta2 series of boards. This has been replaced by the "insert" key method as used by Abit and Epox. To start your board at its default settings following an unsuccessful overclocking attempt you need to do the following using a ps2 keyboard. Turn off your machine and disconnect from the mains or turn off the switch on the back of the power supply. Press the front panel power switch several times to discharge any charge remaining in the power supply capacitors. Reconnect the power by plugging into wall socket or turning on psu power switch. Press and hold down "insert" on the keyboard and press the case front panel power switch. If you are successful it should start the cpu and memory at 100Mhz FSB. If it does press "delete" to reenter the bios to change your settings to known safe settings. Good luck.

  • K7N2 Delta2-LSR Single SATA hard drive set up

OK, I've set up system described in signature, and followed advice posted in this forum.
Enabled RAID, set up single drive raid array, did the F6 thing and installed windows without any problem.
I intended to disable raid in BIOS but when I do the system does not find a hard drive to boot from.
The only two hard drive boot priority options are array (when enabled) and add-on cards (none)
At some stage during the set up I did see my sata h/d in BIOS as well as the raid array.  It may have been on IDE Channel3 Master but not there now.
I'm now thinking of deleting my array using RAID BIOS-F10 but I am concerned not having much experience of raid.
In particular, will BIOS see my hard drive as it only sees an array now.
    Is my only option?
I'd hate to re-install windows and my applications again.  If it come to that, I could live with current situation.
    Thanks Dave

just noticed, your sig lists "K7N2 Delta2-LSR" while your topic title lists "K7N2 Delta-LSR". there is a fundametal difference, hence the confusion
the old Delta's had the Promise controller for SATA / RAID, as nvidia chipset at time had no native support. now newer nvidia nforce chipsets do. what i described above is correct for Delta, but what you have discovered is correct for Delta2: for single drive, disable IDE RAID, and SATA drive is listed as an IDE device

  • New K7N2 Delta2 - LSR motherboard installed - a few questions

Hi - thanks for your advice on my other threads concerning my dying K7N2 Delta2 - LSR motherboard.  I finally installed my new board over the weekend.
It's virtually identical to the old board.  The only difference I can find is that this new board has on board LAN.
The downside:  When the seller packed the board in the original box, he put the huge Thermaltake heatsink on the CPU socket.  It dented the two capacitors next to it.  He also put the manual - CD - etc. bag on top of the static bag.
Virtually every capacitor was bent when I took the motherboard out of the bag.  Naturally, I was a bit concerned.
The upside:  I went ahead with the installation anyway.  I could not get the PC to boot when the Thermaltake heatsink installed.  All I got was a high-pitch squeal.  I thought it was because of the damaged capacitors.
With nothing to lose, I installed the stock heatsink that came with the CPU.  It booted right up and is stable.  As an added bonus I did not have to reinstall XP Pro or any of my programs!
One other thing - I used Arctic Silver Ceramique and applied it exactly as stated in the directions.  I was a bit nervous about not spreading the Ceramique on the CPU.
It works great.  I am getting CPU temperatures ranging from the mid 30s C to the mid 40s C.  I never got temps in the mid-30s even with Arctic Silver.
I set the BIOS to Optimized as recommended in the manual.  I noticed the RAM voltage is set to 2.7.
Question 1 - I believe my RAM is specified to run at 2.5.  Will this increased voltage cause a problem?
Question 2 - In addition to Optimized, there's Turbo Mode, Enhanced Turbo Mode and Manual in the BIOS.  What's the difference between Turbo Mode and Enhanced Turbo mode?  There's nothing in the manual explaining this.
One other thing.  I have my new USB keyboard and old USB mouse connected to the PS/2 ports.  They work perfectly.  I can get to the BIOS using this keyboard.
    Joe

Wonkanoby, Fredrik, Henry - thanks for posting.  The motherboard I have now has an Orange PCI slot, 4 white PCI slots and a Red AGP slot that has a locking mechanism that slides toward the back of the PC tower case instead of a lever that you pull up.
If this is an OEM motherboard, it sure came with a lot of extras, such as SATA cables, a printed manual, CD with drivers, backplate and a fancy box, plus a very customizable BIOS.
    Here are 2 pix:
There's no question in my mind that this motherboard is a Retail Motherboard.  I just threw out (recycled) an MSI 6389 Gateway motherboard.  It had a Gateway BIOS screen, and the BIOS had very few adjustments.
    Joe
P.S.  The 6389 MSI motherboard had a leaking capacitor and would not boot.
P.P.S. I mentioned in an earlier post that I probably disabled the LAN in my old motherboard since I installed a 1 GB Ethernet PCI card.  The computer is old, in that the CPU and heatsink are the oldest components now.  Everything else is relatively new -

  • K7N2 Delta2-LSR Unstable?

    I have a K7N2 Delta2-LSR
    AMD Sempron 3000+
    Corsair PC3200 1GB 128x64 Value Select
    SATA 80GB
On default the CPU is detected as a 1200Mhz CPU and with optimized it is corrected. I have fished through the boards and tried the following.
    1. Bios flashed to 6570vB3
    2. FSB 166x12
I have tried many things but the system is unstable. Most of the time when it detects the 3000+ it does not last very long and never long enough to install XP. That had to be done at 1200.
Where is B5 bios at? Acording to this I should be using W6570NMS.B50 but the best I can find is W6570NMS.B40 and the fourms suggest using W6570NMS.B30.
    Any thoughts?
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=617&kind=1
My last guess is the memory, but I have none to swap out to test. Should I try something else and what?
    Thanks

Could someone plz post (or PM me) the link to this new BIOS? I've been desperately waiting for this, because in all honesty the board sucks big time on previous BIOSes... only giving me problems no matter what I do.
I own a Galaxy 6600GT VGA (my PSU is 420W) and it would not run in 3D mode, or better said as soon as I run a 3D game the screen turns black althought the game goes on. Also my monitor used to randomly turn black with no image output as soon as Windows XP starts up, never to to show any video signals again. This was the case with the original B30 Bios, which is more stable than the B40.
To solve my "Monitor turns Black" problem I had to apply the unstable B40 Bios which would not allow me to OC even 1Mhz, and some times just freezes the board under 100% CPU load by some applications.
I know the "Monitor turns Black" issue was Mainboard Bios related because I had the same problem after trying the Inno3D 6600GT VGA, and only B40 solved it.
Now I need both "Monitor turns Black" and "Stability" issues resolved, before I decide to sweitch to another MB...
Working link to new B50 Bios would be highly appreciated.

  • K7N2 Delta2-LSR S2K Bus disconnect support ?

Does anybody know if there is built in support for S2K Bus disconnect in K7N2 Delta2-LSR? I've read numerous posts on the Internet, that enabling this feature helps dropping down Athlon XP temps by 6-10 degrees. However, I could not find such option in the BIOS, so I had to use a software utility to do that. It works, but I'm not sure if it has side effects, and it's definitely not the most...elegant solution...
And my other question is: Does this board have support for the internal CPU thermal diode ? As I was assembling my system, I found an external thermal sensor in the CPU Socket, while there is no such in other nForce 2 boards... I've heard thet these external sensors are not accurate at all, and that the actual core temperature is higher by 10-15 degrees...Is that true?

    kamelot:
I use Speedfan to monitor the temperatures of K7N2-Delta2-LSR. After Speedfan detects the sensors in K7N2-Delta2 and if you go to Configure->Advanced->Chip:Winbond83627THF, you will see that Thermal Sensor Diode 2 corresponds to "PII diode", which means that it is most probably connected to the internal thermal diode of the processor. The thermal fluctuations with the processor load is instantaneous and steep on this sensor, which tells me that it is  indeed the internal diode. Otherwise, there should have been some detectable lag between the thermal response and processor load. I could not find any direct reference to this information but this is what I found by testing and experimenting with Speedfan.
Regarding the accuracy issue, the absolute temperature value can be off but the delta temperatures should be correct. In the end, absolute temperature reading is just a voltage plus/minus a reference value, reference can change and so the temperature reading. My idle CPU temperature is lower than System temperature, which I think is not correct. But I do not mind this so much because the loaded CPU temperature is about 15C higher then idle and I believe this is the sign of efficient CPU cooling.

  • K7N2 Delta2-LSR and 1 GHZ Thunderbird/Athlon?

I just bought the K7N2 Delta2-LSR board to replace a K7S5A motherboard that was giving me trouble. I read in the specs that it "Supports Socket A for AMD® Athlon™", so I figured that my 1 GHZ Thunderbird/Athlon processor would snap right in. NOW I checked the "CPU Support" link and I don't see that particular processor listed.
Will that combo work and if it does, do I not need to plug in the extra 4 plug power connector?
    Thanks,
    Bill

*I just got this from MSI tech support*
    =============
    Dear Customer,
Yes, the mb does support the 1GH processor in 100mhz FSB or 133mhz FSB version.
You will need ATX 2.03 compliance PS for the system with the 20+4 pin to the mb power connector in order to work.

I guess it's time to unplug and see what happens.
I will most likely be posting a few other messages here

  • K7N2 Delta2 mobo problems - no post!

Hy I am new to this forum.
I have the folowing problem with my computer: I use my computer for about 2 hours and then my LCD closes and it posts "No signal". I restart the computer and the screen is blank. If I reset the bios on my mobo then my computer starts running again - otherwise it does not post.(if I change the Video Card without resetting the bios it still does not start). Forgot to mention that it only starts correctly after a 5h of no power running through the Mobo - if I reset the bios earlier then it still does not work, also tested the Mobo with another CPU, with diffrent RAM and diffrent video cards.
    Specifications:
    Mobo: K7N2 Delta2 LSR
    CPU: AthlonXP 2400+
    Graphic: Leadtek Geforce 6600gt tdh
    RAM: 1Gb Geil, (2x256+512) - same type (Value 400)
    HDD: S-ATA 160GB Segate
    PSU: 450 Sirtek
    Audio: Audigy 2

Finger on North heatsink with fan, nice and cool. Finger on South, bare chip, quite uncomfortable.
I guess you could say I am a dabbler with digital audio. I expect it to be perfect, like high quality analog, on board. But digital brings a big problem, more in a moment. I looked at that XFI out of curiosity, not impressed, just a jump forward, but still major shortfalls in my opinion.
Even with analog, solid state has its problems although they have gotten much better but it has a record of being noisy compared to high quality tube circuits.
But going digital - problem- take this example. First, although claims are that no human can expect to hear a 24KHz tone, tests reveal that people perceive its being missing when it is dropped from the audio signal. Maybe we feel it through the hair on our bodies or the vibrations on our eyeballs. But to a true audiophile it likely comes across as that sensation of something being wrong that causes ones hair to stand on end and bring on the fight or flight instincts.
That being established that true audio should carry the frequency of a piccolo or cymbal and all the overtones, likely way higher than 24K, lets take a look at a pure 24KHz tone. If you take a single 24KHz sinusoidal wave and convert it to digital at a 24KHz rate, that sinusoidal becomes a very small spike. At what rate would you have to convert/sample it to get a near same representation digitally? (Admittedly I get a bit confused with band widths and sampling rates) But, just to do it in stereo, one spike per channel = 48K. Quad=96 And up according to how many channels, such as 7.1 actually being 8 channels=192. Some multichannel DVD's are encoded at that rate and some DVD players sample at that rate, but in the world of computer audio, although some of the Audigy's claimed 192, they split it between I/O.
The XFi seems to be taking a step in the right direction, that is doing a quite high rate of doing as much as possible on the card rather than everything having to move across the PCI buss. But according to a diagram I looked at, it still uses the computers RAM which means moving a lot of stuff on that buss. If the guts of that card are worthy, the next logical would be gobs of RAM on the audio card.
I am not sure what Intel's forray into ASIO was, but it got dropped as near as I can tell. It may have been a low tech approach to adding such infrastructure to MOBOs, sort of like their original roll out of AGP video, on board and used system RAM, but provided an upgrade path to better aftermarket AGP cards. And such approach with the audio was likely on the cheap to provide upgrade path for compliant audio cards, but because it sounded worse than current mid-price cards they could not get demand for it.
My thinking was that it's architecture would be the equivalent of creating a very high quality stand alone audio box(all work done inside), such as some available for a few thousand, and then interfacing it with the computer as a command controller, not processor.

    K7N2 Delta2-LSR: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=596&maincat_no=1
    Hi all, I'm using this with XP1700+ (266FSB) & 512MB DDR333.
The problem is after I turn on, it shows "memory frequency is 166" & "AMD XP1833 MHz" ... then system hang up after POST, also can't get into bios.
As u know this M/B only got ONE jumper, it's JBAT, no others to set frequency. I already tried clear CMOS, but got same result... I also tried pressing "insert" to power on, but seems worse since it don't show me the POST screen...  ???
Any solutions? Thanks a lot  :azn:

Read Moan Guide 1st and provide full details about your PC.
Do a Clear CMOS, but remove power cord from the PSU 1st.
Sorry, I post the spec. now.
CPU: AMD AthlonXP 1700+ (266 FSB)
    M/B: K7N2 Delta2-LSR
    Ram: 512MB DDR PC2700
    VGA: ATi Radeon 8500
    HDD: IBM 40GB 7200rpm
    PSU: 2theMax 380W
And I have tried what u said, but got same result... 1833MHz at POST then hang.

    TGT,
After you post your specs, check to make sure the CPU to RAM ratio it set to 1:1. Also have the FSB set to 133mhz.
    Take Care,
    Richard
I can't set it since system hang before get into bios, and there are no jumper can do such setting.
I have tried to use a 128MB DDR266 instead of the DDR333, memory frequency is showing 133 at POST, but still AMD Athlon 1833MHz...

  • RAID1 issues on K7N2 Delta2-LSR

I originally started down the road of trying to setup a RAID0 with two new WD Raptors and discovered one was bad - WinXP Pro install fails on SATA RAID K7N2 Delta2-LSR
So I continued on with installing WinXP on the remaining Raptor and figured I could setup a RAID1 array when the replacement Raptor arrived.  Today, I popped in the replacement Raptor on the SATA2 controller, booted into WinXP, and confirmed the new drive was recognized.  I could see the new drive in Disk Management and all looked good.
I rebooted into bios, enabled the RAID Config on SATA Primary and SATA Secondary, saved and exited.  Upon reboot, I was able to go into the nVidia RAID setup (F10).
The NVIDIA RAID UTILITY - Array List showed one Mirror 74G array with a Status of Degraded.  I hit [Enter] Detail and [A] Add to add the new hard drive to the array.  Then I selected [R] Rebuild which didn't seem to do anything (no HD activity), but the Array List reported the array Status as Healthy.  I never went through the process of defining a new array where drives are added from the left to the right side of the Define New Array screen since the Array List initially showed one Mirror 74G array, which is what I wanted.
I exited [Ctrl-X] Exit and the array failed to boot.  The NVIDIA BIOS section "Detecting array..." failed to detect the array.  Rebooting confirmed the same.
To make matters worse, I couldn't get into Bios (Delete) or the NVIDIA Setup (F10).  I had to unplug the second Raptor to get into the Bios, upon which I disabled the RAID Config.  My original Raptor remains intact with WinXP.
I would have figured that a mirrored array could be created on the fly from a master hard drive - is this not the case?
How do I go about fixing this problem since now I cannot connect the second Raptor and get into Bios/NVIDIA Setup?  Does the BIOS need to be reset?
Again, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I initially thought a change in direction of the topic belonged in a new thread, but I see the value in keeping it all together.  I'll keep everything from this point out in the 3rd thread.

  • [SOLVED] K7N2 Delta2-LSR Everything works but OpenGL Apps.

    Hello Folks.
Interesting problem I have never run into before.  Recently upgraded to the K7N2 Delta2-LSR MB, and everything works great except for any opengl based application, which just crashes out.  But first a list of the system specs, then a detailed explaination of everything I have done.
    MB: K7N2 Delta2-LSR
    BIOS: Award vB.6 (11.6)
CPU: AMD Athlon 1333Mhz (Don't know which core, sorry) 133MhzFSB x10
RAM: (2) 256M DDR266 (No brand name, Samsung memory chips)
(Dont have memory timings handy, but will get if needed. Using By SPD in bios)
Video: Chaintek GeForce 6600GT (nvidia gefore 6600gt chipset)
    PSU: Logisys Computer PS 550A-BK 550w (+3.3v/30A +5v/38A +12v/25A)
HDD: IBM 20GB IDE (Can get full on model if needed)
Audio: Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platiumn (removed during testing)
OS: Windows 2000 SP4 (Fresh Install, latest MSI MB drivers from support site)
Okay i think that is all the relavent system specs, if anyone needs more I will be happy to provide.
    Software used to test:
Direct3D: Rose Online (game), dxdiag 3D tests
OpenGL: Doom3 (game), Luna (nVidia Demo), Nalu (nVidia Demo), Dusk (nVidia Demo), Windows OpenGL screen savers
The Issue:  OpenGL application crash during startup, normally in the nvoglnt.dll file.  System completely stable otherwise.  Windows 2D applications work fine.  Direct3D applications work fine.  I am using the latest stable nvidia drivers 84.21.  I have also tested with the following previous driver versions 81.85, 81.95, 81.98 and with the beta drivers 84.25, 84.43, 91.28, 91.31.  During this test I also used a MSI 6600GT card from a known good working system.  Putting the Chaintek in the working system, verified the card was good.  It worked no problem.  Putting the known good MSI card in place of the Chaintek in non-working system, OpenGL applications still crash.  I believe at this point I have ruled out both video card and drivers as a culprit.  I have a clean install of Win2K SP4 on the machine with latest MSI MB drivers.  I have also tested with a clean install of WinXP upgraded to SP2, with latest MSI MB drivers, Same Result.  The ram I have tryed in both Single and Dual channel modes.  I have removed one stick and ran the system with just 256MB ram.  I also swapped that stick with the other one per chance it was one of the ram sticks.  Though they had been running fine previously for years in the system without incident until the MB upgrade.  Also if I had bad ram I would expect to have general system instability across the board, not just opengl apps.  As a last resort I hung the HDD off my known good working system, even though it has an ASUS nForce2 chipset MB.  When it booted up,   All applications ran fine. DIrect3d and OpenGL.  At this point in the game I feel I have ruled out software and video drivers as the culprit.
I've never really run into a problem like this before and am beginning to suspect that something is wrong with the motherboard itself.  I just wanted to bounce this issue off the brainpower here at the forums, before I contact the place I bought it from for an RMA.
So I guess this all boils down to is, has anyone else ever had this issue and resolved it?  Or, does anyone have any other troubleshooting ideas I can try?  Thank you for all your time and consideration in this matter.

I agree but first we need to get APIC enabled with a Fresh Install of WinXP.

yes APIC must be enabled and OS installed after it. my reply was add-on after yours.

    Richard,
The install is already on its way.  The XP install has an option for a quick format, so it's not as long as if I did a full one (thank goodness).  I've got a copy of memtest86 on one of my diag cd's around here.  I'll go ahead and let that run overnight when I go to bed.
    Bosskiller,
It is BIOS version B6 aka 11.6.  It came on the board by default.  I dont recall seeing an Nvidia/ATI speedup option, but it may be one of those hidden ones you have to press a series of hotkeys to see, so I will check.     I will let you know more, once this reinstall is completed.
yes Nvidia/ATI speedup option is hidden("SHIFT+F2","ALT+F3")
"I'll go ahead and let that run overnight when I go to bed."
hmm not good idea, couse that will take alot of time which is no need really, make 20 passes on Test Number 5 only in memtest, then leave SP2004 or Prime95 (Large'FFTs in Blends).
But at all think there is not instability issues or you may have it but that is not couse the your problem. becouse instability is random, you are already running Direct3D base application and problems must exist there also if you have big instability, but that is not happend. if stress tests detected instability issues than will mean that you have more than one problem.

  • K7N2 Delta2-LSR LAN not detecting

I just purchased a K7N2 Delta2-LSR with a AMD 2600 Processor. I am building my own system from the ground up basically and I have put Win XP Pro on to it. I went to do a windows update and can not connect to the internet through the ethernet card on the Motherboard. I tried to use my installation disk that was provided by my ISP but it can not detect a network adaptor. I am trying NOT to install too much on the system as I still need to do a windows update and put SP2 on the system as well. Any help on what I need to put on from the MSI disk or what to change to get this to work would be much appreciated. Thank you.

first like Wonkanoby said make sure you have the drivers installed.
then from your start menu choose run and type in cmd. when it opens type in ipconfig and see what it says. if it doesnt match your isp's info and what your ip address should be you need to reset your modem to refresh your isp's info.
turn off your pc, unplug your modem(from the electrical out let so it can reset its self, not from the PC). leave it for 60 seconds, plug it back in and wait for it to become fully active. then restart your pc. once in windows run cmd again and ipconfig and the info should be correct and you should be connected to the net.

    K7N2 Delta2-LSR with XP-Mobile 3000+/266 FSB - settings?

I have the same motherboard, and from what I understand, your Athlon XP-Mobile 3000+ with 266 FSB will only run at 166.  A AMD 3200+ with 400 Mhz fsb will run at 200 Mhz (with the correct memory).  My board has an xp 2800 + with 333 fsb and the best I can get it is 166.
As far as overclocking, I don't know - I'm not brave enough to try (and I don't know enough about it).
Here's a link to the manual, if you look in the section about memory, it will give you the fsb possibilities.

If you can get more out of it, I would be happy to know!
    Hope this helps.
