K7N2 Delta2-LSR - SATA disk does not boot with IDE disk connected

I have K7N2 Delta2-LSR with SATA 160GB drive and CD burner connected as primary master.
When I'm connecting any IDE hard disk, the mainboard detects it corectly, but I'm not able to boot from SATA drive.
I tried to turn off IDE drive detection in BIOS (set [None] instead of [Auto]) and SATA boots!!! And Windows XP and Linux can see both disks!!!
Is it a BUG in BIOS?
Maciek
K7N2 Delta2-LSR (with latest BIOS Sep 18, 2004)
Athlon XP (Barton) 2800+
SATA drive WD 160GB
GF4MX440
FSB333, DDRAM 512MB/400
PSU 350W, works stable with 2 HDs and CDRW.

Strange my board boots fine from SATA with a PATA HDD connected. XP and Linux will see any disks connected to the motherboard and powered up in your system even if disabled in the bios apart from those connected to a separate raid controller which should be enabled. Both these operating systems address the hardware directly once their drivers are loaded so will ignore the settings you have in the bios. This behaviour is normal and not a bios bug. The main boot disk has of course to be enabled in the bios for the boot loader to operate. The boot priority with the new south bridge is PATA first followed by SATA and XP uses this too. To ensure that XP boots from SATA properly the PATA drive must be disconnected during the install process. You also need to ensure that the SATA disk is the only active partition connected to your system. If the PATA disk has been used to boot an operating system previously there may still be an active partition present on the drive. If that is the case removing the active partition should cure the problem but if the present arrangement works for you then fine.

  • New MBP i5 does not boot after hard disk swap

    Hi there,
I received my new i5 MBP today. After booting it once with the installed HDD to check if it's ok, I exchanged the hard disk for the one in my Late 2008 Macbook Pro. After doing this, my Late 2008 Macbook Pro boots fine with the (new) hard disk from the new i5 MBP, but the i5 MBP does not boot with my old hard disk.
    To give you some details:
    - I have installed 10.6.3 on the (old) hard disk that's not booting.
    - The i5 MBP boots fine from the installation DVD
    - Disk utility finds and can read my hard disk, no errors
    - PRAM NVRAM reset did not help
    - when booting in safe mode, I can see the system stop booting after or while loading Extensions.mkext
My guess is, it tries to boot and load the wrong Extensions for the new system (CPU? GPU?). I have no idea how to fix this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Focx,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Inserting the drive from an earlier model MBP will probably not work. The version of the system you have on that HD is designed for earlier hardware so when you put in in your new machine it's going to be recognized. What I'd recommend is re-installing the disk that came with the new machine and of course putting the 2008's disk back in the old machine. Then use Migration Assistant on the new machine and migrate your data from the old machine into the new machine.
This will provide a much more stable system and should work just fine.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • K9AGM3-F does not boot with PCIe 4x device in PCIe 16x slot

K9AGM3-F motherboard does not boot with PCIe 4x Intel PRO/1000 PT dual port network interface card installed into PCIe 16x slot on motherboard. The boot process stops in BIOS screens. The motherboard works flawlessly without this NIC. K9VGM-V + Intel PRO/1000 PT boot successfully. I tried three K9AGM3-F motherboards and two Intel PRO/1000 PT NICs in different combinations, the results are always the same. It appears to be some kind of BIOS problem.

Minor point, probably irrelevant: I said you install the driver f i r s t. Then you put the physical card in.
The driver is completely irrelevant because the driver is a part of operating system, but as I already wrote before the boot process stops long before the OS start.

    No stability issues otherwise?
PSU is always good to know.
The PSU is irrelevant too because the same NICs work in the PCIe 1x slot of the same motherboard with the same PSU.

  • T60 does not boot with Intel T7600G CPU

I replaced my Intel Core Duo T2400 with Intel Core 2 Duo T7600G CPU in ThinkPad T60(1951-CTO) laptop. However, laptop does not boot with Intel Core 2 Duo T7600G CPU. It doesn't even complete the POST: https://db.tt/8UL8FlE0 As seen in the video, I plugged in the power adapter at 0:02 and pressed the power button at 0:06. One can hear a little click made by optical device. If I press the power button again at 0:16, this click does not happen. BIOS version is 2.27. I have reset the BIOS settings by disconnecting the CMOS battery, but this didn't help. Once I replace the T7600G with my old T2400 then I'm able to boot the laptop.
Any ideas what might cause such behavior? Shouldn't there be beep codes in case of CPU issues? What else to try?

I don't claim to be the top authority on T60 motherboards, but I believe any will use a Core 2 T7600, 7400, 7200 if the firmware is updated.
My own experience mirrors what TuuS has stated. I have yet to see a T60/p from any walk of life with a recent BIOS that will bark at a proper Core 2 Duo CPU.

  • Recovery scenario - Voting disk  does not match with the cluster guid

    Hi all,
Think of you can not start your guest VMs just because it has a corrupted system.img root image. And assume it contains 5 physical disk( which are all created by the RAC template) hence ASM on them.
What is the simplest recovery scneario of the guest vms (RAC)?
Can it be a feasible scenario for recover of the availablity? (Assume both of the RAC system images are corrupted and we prefer not a system level recovery rather than backup / restore)
    1. Create 2 RAC instances using the same networking and hostname details as the ones that are corrupted. - Use 5 different new disks.
2 Shutdown the newly created instances. Drop the disks from the newly created instances using VM manager.
    3. Add the old disks whose system image is failing to be recoverd but ASM disks are still in use (from the newly created instances using VM manager.) to the newly created instances.
    4. Open the newly created instances
Can we expect the ASM and CRS could be initialized and be opened without a problem?
When I try this scenario I get the folllowing error from the cssd/crsd .
    - Cluster guid 9112ddc0824fefd5ff2b7f9f7be8f048 found in voting disk does not match with the cluster guid a3eec66a2854ff0bffe784260856f92a obtained from the GPnP profile.
    - Found 0 configured voting files but 1 voting files are required, terminating to ensure data integrity.
What could be the simplest way of recovery of a virtual machine that has healthy ASM disks but corrupted system image?
    Thank you

    Hi,
you have a similar problem, when trying to clone databases with 11.2.
The problem is that a cluster is uniquely identified, and this information is hold in the OCR and the Voting disks. So exactly these 2 are not to be cloned.
To achieve what you want, simply setup your system in that way, that you have a separate diskgroup for OCR and Voting (and ASM spfile), which is not to be restored in this case of szeanrio.
Only all database files in ASM will then be exchanged later.
Then what you want can be achieved.
However I am not sure that the RAC templates have the option to install OCR and Voting into a separated diskgroup.
    Regards
    Sebastian

  • 2960X-48FPS-L does not boot with IOS 15.2-2E

    Hello,
i got a bunch of 2960X switches. But some of them do not boot with the new IOS Version. The older 15.0-2 EX do boot.
Does anybody have a clue why this happens? During the Bootprocess it just stops to load:
File "flash:/c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-2.E.bin" uncompressed and installed, entry poin0x3000
    executing...
    Loading "flash:/c2960x-universalk9-m
    Thank you for your help.

On the ones that cannot boot 15.2(2)E, can you break the boot cycle using the "Mode" button?
If the answer is "yes", then try the following:
    1.  Copy the IOS BIN file from a working switch to a USB flash drive;
    2.  In ROMmon, force the switch to boot the IOS from your USB flash drive;
    3.  If it does not work, try a different IOS, like the EX3 for instance.  Try the same process, boot the BIN from your USB flash drive.
    4.  If it works, try a different IOS, like EX3, for instance.  Downgrade the IOS from 15.2(2)E to EX3 and see if the switch can boot normally.
This exercise will determine where the fault is coming from:  IOS bug or a hardware batch problem.
To determine if you'e got a hardware batch problem, you may need to look at the serial number of the switches working and not working.  From left to right, look at the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th numerals.  This will determine the year and month your appliances were made.

  • PC does not boot with Ipod Nano

    My configuration:
Shuttle SK83G, Athlon64 3000, Windows XP Pro, Logitech DiNovo wireless desktop.
    My problem:
If my Ipod Nano is connected the PC will not boot. The bios screen shows up and then nothing happens. I even can not access the bios. If I remove the ipod the PC will eventually start windows. But in absolute slow motion (I can see how the Windows startup screen fades in step by step).
If I connect my Nano after booting, everything is perfectly fine. Also with my Ipod Mini connected, the PC boots up without a problem.

it's not just a Nano problem, but a USB port problem
That's correct. USB is famous for this. Something in the BIOS (probably) is telling it to try and boot from the nano, but of course it can't find a valid OS there. And the solution is just what you suggested. Don't boot with the nano connected.

  • One USB port does not work with external Disk or USB key

    Hello,
Back to my iMAC there is 3 USB port. The second one - in the middle - does not work pluging an external Disk, an USB key or an iPOD nano. However it works well connecting a Wacom tablet.
Is there an explanation to this behaviour ?
More the keyboard is plugded on USB port 1 and the mouse on the keyboard. Time to time - especially at reboot - I have to unplugged the mouse and plugged again it in order it works.
In advance thank you for your answers
    Regards

Since it does not work for three different devices, I will assume it is not something simple like a faulty USB cable. Since it does work for one device, I will also assume that the port is (at least partially) working.
As a test to narrow down the cause, I would try restarting from your Mac OS X installation disc (insert disc and restart with the C key held down).
At the first Installer screen (after language selection), go up the menu bar. Under Utilities, select to run Disk Utility. Now, connect the USB drive into that center port. Does it appear in the Disk Utility sidebar?
    Please post back the result...

  • 24" iMac AlSiO does not boot with iPod video on USB dock

    Hello all,
I have already reported this as an issue with Apple.
I noticed that when I turn on my new iMac with the video iPod on the dock connected via USB, I only see the gray screen and the OS does not start. However, once I remove the iPod from the dock, then the Apple logo will show up, and the circular moving tiny line counters will ensue before the login screen appears.
Just wondering if anyone else is running into this problem.

Thanks for the suggestions den.thed and elmac.
    I have done the following:
    - Selected the Mac OS X on the MacHD as the startup disk and locked that from further changes. Restarting the iMac did not work.
    - Verified and repaired permissions. Restarted the iMac and it did not work either.
    In addition, I also tried:
    - Restoring the video iPod and leaving it without contents. Rebooting the iMac worked.
    - Syncing iTunes with the iPod after the restore. The rebooting problem appears again.
It seems like some synced items on the iPod are causing the issue as odd as that sounds.
I did not have this problem with my G5 iMac.
Since there is a workaround, I'll just live with that for now.
    Thanks again.

  • P67A-GD65 does not boot with LSI 9240-8i HBA

    Hi All,
When I installed my LSI 9240-8i I was able to boot to the ICH10 Raid as long as the Marvell Raid controller was disabled.  Once I updated the LSI card to the latest version of the firmware I cant boot at all.  I've cleared the CMOS, I've disabled everything in the BIOS (raid controllers, 1394, NIC, etc).  All not no avail.
    Thus Far I've tried:
-Booting to OS on the ICH10 RAID gets me into Windows 7 (x64): Resulted in the LSI controller showing, "This device could not start. (Code 10)" under Device Manager.
-Updating Firmware: Resulted in the mobo hanging on POST at code "92".
-Upating BIOS from 1.B to 1.C5 Beta: Resulted in mobo hanging on POST at code "92".
-When I move the card to my Dell Prescision workstation, the LSI RAID controller works like a charm!

Looks to me that it is the LSI firmware issue as the card works fine until you updated its firmware.
Do card with the card's vendor.
    Hi NovJoe,
Thats just it.  It looks like its an MSI BIOS compatability issue all along.  Before I upgrade the firmware, the card works in my Dell Precision Workstation, but does not work on the MSI mobo; shows Device could not start (Code 10) error.  After I upgrade the Firmware, the MSI mobo will not POST, but the Dell still boots up with the card perfectly.
Its definitely NOT the card.  If both the 9240 and 9260 cards work perfectly in other computers then there is something wrong with the MSI mobo or BIOS.
    Please help.
    Thanks!

  • Securing old 10.4 xserve with hot spare - new xserve does not boot with 10.

    dear you,
I am in the murky situation of having to secure a single, non redundant productive scenario which is running on one xserve (model identifier 1,1; dual core 3GHz; boot-rom XS11.0080.B00). due to several reasons the server needs to be cloned, so that a separate xserve with a daily cloned boot-device can take over if things go south with the productive one.
unfortunately the newly bought xserve quadcore single 2.26GHz refuses to boot from the image taken from the production machine. tried to downgrade firmware, did not help. new machine crashes during startup (empty grey screen).
anybody knows any help? moving the production machine to 10.5 or newer is NO option.
an option could be two elder xserves I have here additionally. how do I find out which xserve model will boot with an image from the production server?
thank you all for any idea in advance,
    thaijay
    Message was edited by: thaijay
Sorry, failed to let you know the productive server is running 10.4.11. please let me know which other details I can post/will help us with this issue

This is never going to work via cloning.
The server you're cloning has to be one of the original Intel-based XServes. Each successive revision adds requirements to the OS to the point where they have a minimum OS version. In the case of the latest generation servers, they won't run on anything earlier than 10.5.6 (IIRC). To put it simply - 10.4 doesn't know how to drive the latest generation hardware.
In any case, cloning is rarely a good idea for servers anyway. You would do better to look at the services you're running and look at backup/failover plans for them rather than trying to clone the entire server. Many services such as Open Directory, DNS, MySQL and more have built-in replication systems that are designed to replicate their data across many machines. Other client-facing services such as AFP, web, FTP, etc. can be set to failover (where the second machine takes over the service when the primary machine fails).
Such replication/failover techniques are far more reliable than a daily clone, and they're also faster. Replicated data could be maintained up to the minute, compared to a day old data if you need to boot up the clone.
If you really, really want to go the clone route, then reverse the roles - setup the new machine as the primary server with all the services and clone this machine to create your failover system. 10.5.6 will run the old/original XServe, it's just a matter of updating your services to the newer version.

  • P35 Neo ram problems. Does not boot with 4 sticks

    Greetings!
This thread is little related to: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=110095.0
Okey so I bought this rig last friday(will post specs later). 4x 1gb ram sticks, shows up as 3.3gb. Was gona install 64-bit Vista today, but got some problems.
I left my computer on during night just to check if it runs fine. I wake up around 6am, turn power on to my monitor. Screensaver, move mouse, desktop and BOOM: Bluescreen(something about memory). Ok so I shutdown my comp, try to reboot got no signal. Removed 2 ram sticks(A2,B2) and yey it works. I plug them back in and again nothing. I test them 1 by 1 on both of the free slots, no problems detected.
Why won't my P35 Neo boot with 4 gigs of ram? And why did it work for 2days? :P
My guess is that the bios is still not ready yet(using 1.2v).

If I understand correctly, you are saying that you can install Vista and XP to the system but not able to boot into the OS'es when you have 4GB of RAMs installed?
I would recommend you to test the RAMs with Memtest86.
Yes, I could install Vista and XP just fine. Also at first I could boot them with 4gigs just fine. Now my system won't POST with 4 gigs.
I've tested each one of the ram sticks and they are error free.

    Hi Mike,
I am glad that you finally have success.  The issue is probably that the PC BIOS level is too low.
The passmark numbers look very good.
BTW -- I had the ASUS P8P67 motherboard and donated it another forum member. It wouldn't support an EVGA UEFI BIOS based graphics card. I ended up replacing the ASUS P8P67 with the ASUS Z87.
