K7N2-ILSR Sudden freezing due to onboard sound

I have had a few problems from the start with the K7N2-ILSR, i have overcome them all except my machine freezes when the onboard sound is enabled.  I do not have any other cards in my machine except for my Geforce4.
The problem will only occur when the onboard sound has been eneabled in the bios it will happen when you play sound or not it just locks up or restarts!!!
I have read through alot of the posts and i havn't come across any problems that are the same.
Could you please give me some help as i am getting really annoyed with it.
Cheerz.

Memorex 24X 1040MAXX

No If i enable onboard sound or install a PCI card i will get a lockup whenever!  I don't have to be doing anything it will just suddenly freeze.
I am using my machine now with the onboard sound off and it will not freeze at all but after this session on the internet i get an error and then my machine will not BURN
COPY & PASTE
SAVE Documents
or Shut my Internet down
I installed win2k on the HDD on IDE1 (Master) after setup finished i added the second HDD on IDE3(Raid) set it to a "0" array.
I am going to try a fresh install onto my HDD on IDE3 (Raid) with WINXP chosing the Raid option in setup then install all the latest drivers from nvidia and so on....  The only problem i have is time or lack of!
i have ran the memtest86 V3.0 and i din't get any errors but i ran the test while i had dual ram setup.  I will try again seperately.
I have also changed my DDR settings to 333 to match the CPU this has had no effect.
What powersupply would you say is the best? Where to get it from? and how much?

  • K7N2 Delta Onboard Sound Disable Question

I have a K7N2 Delta motherboard with a MSI FX5600 256MB DDR video card.  I am currently using the onboard audio.  Ever since I first built this computer I have been having nearly every game I play on it lock up and freeze.  I am thinking that it is a sound issue that is causing this problem, so I want to install a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live.  I have several questions that I hope someone can answer as I have exhausted all avenues and still don't have any answers.  Here are my questions:
       1.  How do I disable the onboard sound?  ie  Which jumper is it and what are the
            jumper settings?
       2.  Which PCI slot is recommended for installing the sound card so that I won't
            any IRQ conflicts?
       3.  Is this actually an audio problem or is there something else wrong with this
            motherboard or video card?
This is becoming very frustrating because when the computer locks up all I can do is just reset without shutting down.  I'm becoming more and more worried that if this continues unabated I'm going to crash the hard drive and have to replace it only to have the problem persist.  I hope someone can give me specific answers to my questions.  Thank you in advance for your help.

First. Is it K7N2 Delta-L or Delta-ILSR (the one with an actual Soundstorm chip on it)? If you have the actual Soundstorm chip, use it! It will sound much better than an SBLive. Assuming you have the normal K7N2 Delta-L like I have:
    1. To disable the onboard sound, first uninstall the drivers for it, then you need to go into the BIOS by holding the Delete key while you boot up. Then find the section "Integrated Peripherals" and in that section "Onboard Devices". Press Enter and find AC97 Audio and disable it. There are no jumpers.
    2. PCI slots 1, 2 and 3 are usually not shared with other stuff like you AGP or USB ports. PCI Slot 3 is the ideal choice. 1 is usually covered by your video card fan anyway. For the SBLive, on Windows XP/2000, get the newest drivers from Creative Labs. The file is named "LiveDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe" and it's file size is 23.3 MB (24,451,404 bytes). They have fixed the "nforce2 + gameport incompatibility".
    3. The problem may be audio related...or not. Which drivers are/were you using for your onboard audio? nvidia or Realtek? Actual Soundstorm chip or crappy software codec? It could also be video card related. Fastwrites? 8x or 4x AGP?

  • K8TM-ILSR Onboard sound disabled

    Hello all,
I recently got a new pc with the K8TM-ILSR. All works fine, except one thing. The onboard soundcard seems to disable as soon as I plug in a pci soundcard. I love having 2 soundcards, but I cant get it to work. The onboard sound is ofcourse enabled in the bios, and it gets detected as soon as I remove my pci soundcard, but when I plug it back in, it disappears. Are there any fixes for this? Help is greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Paul

Its in the 3rd pci slot, also tried it in the 2nd slot, but no difference..,
    Thanks anyway.

  • K7N2-ILSR sound problem

    Hello ,
I'm havinig random weird sound problems :
when i play video after a long time the sound gets laggy/grating/out of sync .if i  pause the film and start again it fix the problem . also sometimes after playing for several minutes i get noise/hiss added to the sound.
this happens randomly and after playing for a while. i'm using win xp ,nforce 2.45 drivers and the sstorm control panel.
    what causes the noises?
    my system :
     K7N2- ILSR
     AMD XP 2500
     twinmos 2X256 PC3200
     HITACHI 120GB
     GAINWARD GF4 TI4200

I have the exact same problems you mentioned but I am using a old nForce 1 msi board.  K7N420-Pro to be precise.
Usually it runs pretty well in games and such, but when ever I try to play winamp it gets very very buggy.  sometimes I can't even get through 5 seconds of a song, other times it will get through 2 or 3 and then mess up until I hit next.  I upgraded to the 2.45 yesterday from the 2.11 drivers and still got the problems.
I don't think its a heating problem since it has seen far worse heat in this computers past (winter term right next to the wall heater in the dorm) then where it is now in a 72 degree room.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • K7N2 Delta, upgrade to Win XP, no sound

I have a K7N2 Delta with Nvidia Nforce2 and onboard 5.1 sound, Athlon XP 1.25Ghz
I upgraded from Win98se to Win XP Pro yesterday.  I have the full install version ("for Win95 or earlier or PCs without windows") but it allowed me to install as an upgrade.  It warned me that there would be a problem with the sound... and now that I've upgraded, I don't seem to have any sound installed at all.
One of the things that I've tried is to download the latest audio package from Nvidia's web site at http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_audio_4.57_win2kxp
When I click to Open this program, Win XP wants to open it with Win Media Player (I have no idea why).  When I instruct the computer to unzip it using an actual zip utility, I end up with a folder with a bunch of files, including two uninstaller programs, but no installer program or any explanation of what I'm supposed to do next.  When I try to install a new program from the control menu and direct it to this folder, Win XP itself is confused because it can't find an installer program.
I'm not entirely sure that this will solve my problem in any case, but their drivers were reccomended by someone on the City of Heroes boards who had a similar-sounding problem.     When I look at sound in the control panel it appears that nothing is installed, so I assume that installing the right drivers would solve my problem.  Only I can't seem to get there from here...

    Hi,
Jacoband: You may like to start your own thread with this question!
You might also like to inform us of what hardware you are using - it would be interesting to know which motherboard you have as you haven't mentioned it!
You need to make a list of all your hardware and then repost.
Btw, I'm guessing here but to answer your question I'm pretty sure the answer is no! The jumper position only allows for use of front or back....not both!
But as I say as I don't know what you're using so I can't be sure!

  • Can't load Mandrake 9 with onBoard sound enabled.

    Any ideas as to why?
I can not boot into Mandrake 9 when I have onBoard sound enabled, it always freezes when it tries to load the i810 sound interface system. Yet when I disable it in the bios it loads perfectly.
I've already installed the nForce system drivers and that didn't help at all. Likely because it didn't know the sound card was there to install for.

I know your problem.Your not editing the modules.conf and adding these lines.Use vi command to edit. You may have one or more of these lines in your modules.conf and will only need to add the ones you don't have.I only had to add the audio line.
#vi /etc/modules.conf,press INSERT key, add the following lines,
    alias eth0 mcpeth
    alias sound-slot-1 i810_audio
    alias usb-interface usb-ohci
press ESC, (Shift) colon, wq and Enter.
This will save the changes you made.

  • K7N2-ILSR reboots, cannot reinstall XP, video gone

Well, since I built my machine 3 months ago, I've been having problems with it, but because I really didn't know what was wrong with it, I could not narrow it down to anything.
What happened was that my computer would reboot on its on whenever.  It would reboot especially when I'm playing games like NBA Live 2003, Warcraft III, etc. and if it didn't reboot, it would kick me out of the system.
At first we thought it was a PSU problem, but after we replaced it and had the same problem, we figured otherwise.
    I have
    K7N2G-ILSR board
    Athlon XP 2500+ Barton
    2x Infineon 512 DDR
    WD120 /8mb cache
    WD80
    onboard sound, video, nic
    burner, dvd, nic
BIOS should be newest stable version.
After reformatting over and over again, it was evident the problem was not software based.
I even brought it into FutureShop (Canada's #1 computing franchise) and their techs couldn't figure it out.  We ran Troubleshooter on it and all the hardware passed the tests.
They instead downclocked the FSB to 133 from 166 (default) which then lowered my CPU speed to 1900+.  The reboots did not come as often, but they did still occured.
So I decided to reformat again and reload XP but that was when the problems occured.  The first 5-6 times, I got different errors from Windows (boot off CD) stating that there are errors and that it did not want to damage my computer further (a different error every time, but one of them was irql_none_or_equal_to of something to that effect.
Since I never had this problem prior to visiting FS, I decided to reset my bios to default settings.  After that, every time I tried to load Windows, it would give me read errors on the CDs.  I tried different CDs on different drives, and still I got the same read errors - stating that it cannot copy certain files.
Today, I decided to try something new and set to high performance settings.  Once I did that, the video turned off, and I got a blank screen ever since.  Turning on the comp does not turn on the monitor any more, and the D-bracket is stuck at "Initializing Video Interface".
Sorry for the long post, but I just wanted to be thorough.
    My questions -
    1) Are the default settings to the motherboard good to go?  Shouldn't I be able to run my system smoothly with them?
    2) Does changing FSB to 133 from 166 make a diff?  Why does it lower my CPU clock?  What should I change to make the CPU back up?
    3) How do I get back to having video?
    4) Does this sound like a motherboard problem?  I've tested just about everything: hdd, RAM, PSU - i don't know what else it could be.
    5) What suggestinons do you have?
    6) Help?
    Thanks for your input

I'm having the exact same problem, completely random reboots, I've pretty much nailed it down to a bad stick of RAM now, I tested with memtest86, after errors I put a single stick into the single mode dimm, crashed almost immediately after loading winxp, I switched modules, and it's been running smooth ever since (going on a day, but typically I would have seen a crash by now).  It's probably not PSU, I bought a new case/psu because that's what I also thought it was, but the new psu actually sags on a few values (3.3=3.0, etc etc) and it still maintains fine, why it sags like that I wouldn't know, it's a 420W psu, while my old one (which had rock solid voltages) was 300W....oh well...
I'm fairly confident either my RAM was incompatible with my board or the RAM has just gone bad somehow... (I've had crashes ever since I installed the board, but with strange frequencies in occurance (eg, it ran great for the first 2-3 weeks)

  • K7N2-ILSR Lan Won't connect!

:bonk:I am at the end of my rope!I bought a K7N2-ILSR in January and was so frustrated when I could not get the LAN to connect no matter what I did.I finally submitted my problom to MSI and received a RMA and my board was replaced.I have the same problom.I can put in a separate PCI card and will work fine but the onboard will not connect.I have been through troubleshooters and driver reload and hardware removal and reinstallation.I have ping tested without failure in the windows troubleshooter. The light blinks and it says it is sending packets but receiving none.Any ideas?

Did you load the system disk that came with your mainboard?
nVidia also has the unified drivers.
    For Windows XP here:
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_4.24
Or are you running Linux? Heck Mandrake 10 final release finally is now supporting LAN

  • K7N2-ILSR IDE Raid

    Dear Tech Wizards,
    Stupid little question...
Any performance issues with hooking up two IDE drives (ATA 133) onto the IDE 3 Raid connection on the K7N2-ILSR MB?
Just curious since my ASUS board (P4PE) using individual IDE connectors for the IDE setup (you know, one drive, one connector).
This is my foray into MSI territory.  I have always used ASUS boards in the past.  I like the layout of this board since it has the new NForce chip set and IDE Raid.  When I'm done, I'll have 2 GByte DDR 2700 RAM (matched 1 GByte chips), AMD XP 3000+ Barton, and two 120 MByte Maxtors (240 GByte) plus one other 120 GByte Maxtor on another IDE line for the OS.  Raids are tempermental and it is best not to have all your eggs in one basket.  I have found that AMD chips just kick ass for numerical computations.  They are about 30% faster than Intel's.  AMD's integer calculation capabilities are much, much better.
    Thanks a bunch,
    George

So, it looks like it is back to the trenches to find a decent MB that has IDE RAID and the NForce Ultra 400 chipset.
What about a mainboard without RAID. I don't think you get a mainboard with full-onboard-raid ever. That's the marketing of promise, highpoint et al. If I knew it former, I would have bought the delta K7N2-ILS. Onboard VGA and onboard RAID are not the best choice !!

  • Onboard sound problems

Well, for some reason, after installing the Cmedia drivers off of MSI's website and installing them, my 5.1 sound is buggy. I'll be playing games (have only experienced it in games, although I'm not sure if it does it with normal music playing) and all of the sudden, the sound will just  out for no reason.
It will work from the get go, but after a little bit of workin, it screws up.
    Any ideas?

I think that you may need to un-install the C-Media and the onboard sound drivers first, reboot system, skip hardware detection and re-install C-Media + onboard sound drivers through the installation wizard of the program.

  • K8N Neo Platinum onboard sound, "My Microphone burned out"?

Ok is it possible that my Onboard sound mic burnt out?  Im using a USB headset. I had this board since it came out and love it. All of the sudden i have no mic. Im about to check the headset on another pc but is it possible for it to stop working? Might take me awhile to try on another pc but a quick answer would help.  The onboard sound is ok just i have no mic now.

I think it might be something with the board/drivers.
I have an k8n Diamond and my mic stops working from time to time.
I play css and am on ventrilo the same time and sometimes the mic just stops.
Doesnt work in verntrilo or css.
I shut down CSS (counter strike source) and mic is still dead.
So I close ventrilo and start css again and suddenly mic works again!
Its weird, seems like some compability issue.
I find I get less problems if I start the game before ventrilo. Start the game first and then alt-tab (if possible) and start ventrilo.
I had a k8n platinum before, never had any problems. But it broke so they gave me a k8n diamond on warranty instead, wicth is suppossed to be a better card?

  • Unable to make microphone to work on NVIDIA MCP55 onboard sound card

    Hello.
Some time ago, I bought a nice HP xw9400 Workstation (with Dual Core AMD Opteron  2216) from Germany. Despite it's starting to become old by today's standards for some stuff like gaming, it's still quite okay to use and the SAS HDD makes it boot fastly. And it has one of the best cases, you can plug PCI/PCIe/PCI-X cards very easily and it's very nice to change or add HDDs. Maybe I'll upgrade the CPUs (I can upgrade the bios and it seems it can support better CPUs) if I find them on eBay or other place.
I have less problems with Arch than the rest of distributions, but I still have weird issues. Despite my computer hardware is somewhat old, I still experience weird problems everywhere (it seems I have some kind of weird "luck").
I have problems using my microphone under Arch with "NVIDIA Corporation MCP55 High Definition Audio (rev a2)" onboard sound card , here is the relevant info.

I also tried create  /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and add the following line to it...
    options snd-hda-intel model=6stack
And no luck!  I tried it and still appear both "Rear Mic" and "Front Mic". I'll provide a screenshot later.
I'm starting to understand this, maybe it can help me...

I tested both sound hardware by using arecord and audacity, no luck at all

(I tried them with my user and root, same results)
I had an Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro, but removed it to see if there was some problem. I'm still unable to use my Microphone even on onboard audio hardware. I'll try to use it once I have the microphone working

Sorry, that was wrong, I meant
    arecord -l
Have you tried making a virtual loopback device like above and using
    arecord -vv -fdat out.wav
You should see the #### fluctuate as you speak into the mic. If not, then unmute and turn up your mic in alsamixer. That loopback device will allow you to capture your sound card and hear it at the same time. Another way to do it is to use a jumper from line out to line in on your sound device. You won't be able to hear it while you record though.
If your sound device works, then you can capture what's going through it. You'll need to determine which vitual device your mic is.
    Example
    arecord -l
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
