K7N2-L Overclocking 1700+ B Core Help

Hello all,
I've got a K7N2-L and a 1700+ B core (1.6v), I've managed to overclock it to 12.5*166 with the bios set at 1.625v(bios reports 1.67v).
But I can't seem to break the 166fsb barrier, I've got two (dimm 1+3) pc2700 generic cl2.5 ram modules in running at 2.7v (2 2 2 3). Everything runs totally stable at 166 but at 168 or 170 I get an unstable system. I reduced the memory timing very low settings when testing just incase that was a factor.
I've tried reducing the multiplier to 11.5 and increasing the fsb but no luck, increasing the cpu core voltage to 1.8v and 12.5x180 to jump right over the 170 fsb range but a failure again. The failures are 3d mark 2001 failing and going back to the desk top. But with 180fsb I couldn't get it to boot fully into windows.
With 166 fsb I just use the stock cooler and it's stable, with all the other tests I use a big desk fan pointing in the open case as well and the cpu temp stay under 40 degress.
I can't help thinking that if I can get 166 at 1.67 volts stable the cpu has a lot more in it and something else is limiting the fsb (esp as I can't get over 166 with lower multipliers). Are they any bois/cpu hacks that allow me to access the higher multipliers so I can at least try and get my cpu MHz up?
My system specs are:
K7N2-L with 1700+
Coolermaster 3000+ amd approved
PCI raid card running 2x80G stripped disks
MX440 (not over clocked) soon to be a 9800 pro when it arrives
Any Ideas?
Thanks!!!

Hi wonkanoby,
Yep I've upped the voltage by 0.025 as well, it is showing at 1.66-1.67 too, that seemed to do the trick to get 166*12.5.
I've found someone else who has the same ram and can't get it above 166, so it looks like the ram is the problem. If the ram is the problem do you think.
166 memory, 200 fsb and multiplier 10.5 (2100MHz)
overall would be slower than
166 memory, 166 fsb and multiplier 12.5 (2075MHz)
I've read that having the front side bus and ram frequencies synchronised makes a big difference so it could well be the case that 166Mhz for fsb and ram is the better option.
If this is the case does anyone know anyway to access the higher than 12.5 multipliers? I'd like to try 13 or 13.5 multipliers. I've had a good look around the internet and other forums but I can't find any clear information on whatI need to do to get the higher multiplier ranges.
Thanks.

  • K7N2 ILSR recognizes 1700+ as 1400 duron...help

The problem is as the title states.
I have upgraded the BIOS to the very latest version(7.6) and everything runs fine and dandy even overclocked (145 Mhz) running DDR 290.
Upon post, processor reads that is running 1547 Mhz Duron....I have done everything I can think of
    Any suggestions?

Well...I have cleared the CMOS, but I will try again.
This problem has existed since I got the MB through several BIOS flashes and yes the FSB is set to 133(Jumper J10 is short to 1&2 and jumper J11 is Short)
I have used this processor in a K7T Turbo prior to upgrading to the K7N2 and it worked just fine overclocked to 2000+
Could this be a problem with the MB itself?  or even the processor?  I have screwed with the BIOS in every way that I can think of to get it to recognize.
There is one more thing, the first time I ever started up with this motherboard it read 'unknown processor 1700+'  Ever since then it has been recognizing as Duron.
My system is very stable and benchmarks very well which makes it seem to me like the processor is running correctly just not recognizing properly.
I think that it may be time to ask for a new processor for Xmas....
I appreciate the suggestions, keep'em comin.

  • MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR MB Problems, Need Help ASAP!! PLEASE

Ok  I just got this motherboard (MSI K7N2 Delta) Yesterday and after getting it setup I began overclocking the Processor (an AMD Athlon XP Barton Mobile 2500+) I was at 11x 215 1.750V Perfectly. I moved to 216 it started to seem unstable so I pushed the VCORE up to 1.775 and tried 217. It couldn't boot so I dropped it back down and decided ok 208 and a 11.5 multi might get me past the 2.4 mark which I was looking for. Well when I changed the Multi. to 11.5 and said save the system just sate as the flashing y for save. I could not change it to n I had already pushed enter So i firgured great and left it alone for a few minutes, nothing so I reset it. Now it refuses to boot/post. It spinds the fans the HD's the Network port is going but I get no picture. I have cleared the CMOS using the jumper I have removed the battery and power for over an hour and I still get nothing. I am assuming this is a BIOS error but I am not sure what to do to fix it. Does anyone here kno maybe, something I have yet to try something I can do? I would hate to RMA it and have to wait on newegg. Hell the thing is a day old. So please any idea's are welcome I have this posted on the Hard Forums as well but I am hopinh this forum may be more popular with getting help as no one is helping over there. Thanks!

    Hi,
Cross: Just in case you are doing something wrong there's a clear CMOS guide here, follow it to the letter (and don't forget to put the FSB jumper to SAFE beforehand - there's a note about it in the guide).
    How To Clear the CMOS
Your system board or CPU maybe not be dead yet - I had a similar problem with one of my boards and I tried everything - to cut a long story short I eventually got it working!!!
Btw, If you can't boot or get into the BIOS put your other CPU in (clear BIOS again after fitting!), so that you can prove whether your motherboard is working correctly!
Good luck!   I'm off ta bed!

  • My ipod is 8gb and it wont let me download anymore songs, i currently have 1200 and i thought an 8gb ipod would hold at least 1700, can anybody help?

I have an 8gb ipod which has only 1200 songs on it, no photo's, no apps and no video's and it's telling me that my storage is full, can anybody help/

The number of songs that any iDevice will store depends on both the length/duration of songs and on the audio format(s) used.  The figure of "1700" is nothing more than an estimate ... probably based on 3-minute songs and low bit-rates.  There is no definitive number - your iPod's capacity is based on available memory (which, for an 8Gb iPod is actually around 7Gb).  Best way to manage the content of your iPod is to create one or more playlists that are then used as the basis for sync operations (set this up when your iPod is connected).

  • Wanting to overclock my CPU! Help!

    Hello,
I have come to the conclusion that I need to over clock my CPU to enhance game play with the addition of my new GTX 260, and additional RAM. I added two more gigs of RAM for a total of four gigs.
My system specs are listed below!!
*Lian Li Server/Full Tower Classical PC-G75 with Window.
*CPU Type DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 2400 MHz (No OC)
    *MSI P6N SLI Platinum
    *EVGA GTX260 Core216 (No OC)
    *Four gigs CORSAIR XMS2 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel.
    *26" Viewsonic LCD monitor.
*74 gig 10,000 RPM raptor OS drive. 120 gig 7200 RPM Maxtor storage drive. 120 gig 7200 RPM Maxtor game drive.
*Corsair 620 Watt Power Supply (CMPSU-620HX)
    *Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer.
    *Vista ultimate OS.
My FPS are not too bad on the games I play. I am a big BF2, and BF2142 game player. I do have my RAM set up in the bios correctly, but have left my CPU on auto. My 3D Mark vantage score is 10195 with my current config. I plan on buying a copy of Vista 64 bit to get control of my entire four gigs of RAM. System info reports four gigs installed, but only three gigs total physical memory.
Ok, I have not messed around with overclocking, so please inform me of the best route. At this point in time, I am just wanting to over clock my CPU. I have a huge LianLi server case with awesome air flow. I am using a large Zalman after market CPU cooler. Would it be better to wait until after I installed Vista 64 bit to do any overclocking?
So, should I just do a bunch of reading, or would it be better to take the advice of the informative people right here in the forums? I would like to be able to try some instruction from you guys so I can come right back to report performance, or lack there of.
Let me know if you guys need more info, and thanks allot!

Ok, I have done allot of reading, and have a few questions that are specific to my mobo (MSI P6N SLI Platinum).  This is just an example: I see that my CPU voltage is 1.176v using CPUZ. In my bios, I cannot type in a number that I want the voltage to be. Instead I can only up the voltage in .0125 increments. Say I want my CPU voltage at 1.375v. Do I need to hit the "page up" key 16 times to get my voltage at 1.375v??
Also when adjusting FSB voltage, it is measured in percentages in the bios. First of all, what is the stock FSB voltage for my mobo?  Where is this voltage displayed? If I wanted my FSB voltage to be 1.3, how much in percentages do I up it in the bios??
I hope all this makes sense.

  • How does many cores help us?

Can someone explain what the number of cores does for us, performance-wise?
I presume its like getting help carrying rocks: many hands make light work = done sooner.
Are more cores better than more Ghz? What's next in core development or other magic features?
    Thanks !

    Hi Steve Zavodny;
Multiple cores can process multi-threaded programs much faster by using a core per thread. They can also process multiple applications by having an application per core.
Where things fall down is when you have a program that has been coded as a single thread and it needs a tremendous amount of CPU horsepower. This type of application will not see a great amount of improvement with multiple cores.
So far most applications are coded as single threads. But the developers are aware of this problem and they are working to recode applications to be multithreaded.

If you can have the cme and the router talk directly without going thru the asa, it would be simpler. CME being a router does not need firewall and would see only SIP to the eternal world.
In that case you setup a static inside nat tranalstion for port 5060 to the cme:
ip nat inside source static udp 5060 interface 5060

  • K7N2 Delta....please help

OK, let me start by saying that I know just enough to be dangerous (and really get things screwed up).  With that said, My computer was running great and then I had the chance to upgrade my processor and RAM so I did.  Since doing so I've run into a little snag, most of the time, about every 60 seconds it just freezes up for anywhere from 3 to 10 sec.
Does anyone have any ideas?  Here's my setup:
K7N2 Delta ILSR (MS-6570)  I just changed the Bios to version 7.80
    Athlon XP 3200+ running @ 2.20 Ghz (temp is 40-45 C)
    (3) 512MB Geil DDR400 PC3200 6-3-3-2 (dual channel mode)
NVIDIA Geforce4 Ti 4200 (w/ dual 19" samsung SyncMaster 191T one DVI one AGP)
Dual 80 gig SATA hard drives
SCSI card w/ benchmark tape back up
    liteon CD Burner
    Toshiba DVD ROM
    1394 net adapter
    D bracket
    S bracket
    3.5" floppy
    Creative speakers SBS2.1
Generic case w/ plenty of fans & 450W power supply
    XP pro SP2
    Other settings:
AGP clock @ defalt setting of 66
    AGP voltage 1.5
    DRAM voltage 2.7
    Vcore-1.64v
    +3.3v - 3.23
    +5v - 5.10
    +12v - 11.85
    -12v - -12.69
    -5v - -5.20
    Items that where changed:
    I went from a XP3000+ (333FSB) to the 3200+ (400FSB)
    added a stick of RAM
    installed SP2
and in an effort to fix the problem updated the bios
I know this board is ram sensitive - so is the added ram the problem?
    Is SP2 the problem?
    Or is it the 3200+?
    Please help.

    Hello,
What is the model of the memory modules?
Geil PC3200 Value ram Blue heat spreaders?
The timings for that are 2.5-3-3-6 not 2-3-3-6 (assuming you got the value series)
Are you running the memory in SPD mode?
You may also want to test each module with this program.
    http://www.memtest.org/download/1.40/memtest86+-1.40.floppy.zip
It will create a bootdisk that cannot be read in windows.
You must then boot from the disk with only 1 module in the PC.
If you get any errors then it is a faulty memory module, test all the modules.

  • Stop Errors in Windows XP with K7N2-ILSR....need help!

    Hello,
i recently received  a replacement for a K2N2-ILSR mobo and i am still having BIG problems with it. With the first mobo, installation of Windows XP w/SP1 simply would not complete. The installation kept crashing and STOP ERRORS like 0x8E, 0x0A would appear and random points of the process (i tried to install them more than 20 times). The CPU was an XP 1800+ and memory was 2 DDR400 sticks of not so good quality (cheapest i could find...at that point i did not know that the mobo was so picky with memory). The Graphics card is a FX5200. PSU was 350W. When i checked the system BIOS i show a CPU temperature reading of 85 degrees! Of course, the CPU was nowhere around 45 at that moment (which i verified by testing it on another mobo). I suspected that the motherboard was faulty and returned it. In the meantime, i figured out about these issues with Nforce2 and memory, so i decided to upgrade everything. I bought a Barton XP 2500+, 2 Crucial DDR400 256MB sticks and a new Enermax 450W PSU. I tried them on the new mobo, but guess what...XP w/SP1 still did not install! I finally tried to install XP w/out SP1 and everything worked fine! Or so i thought so....after 3 weeks of working with it i STILL get STOP errors, mainly 0x0A and 0x8E.
    Could anybody PLEASE help me?
    Thank you very much,
    flash

Is it a Deskstar if so IBM have issued a firmware upgrade for those drives Here to stop them doing the funcky chicken.

Thanks loads everyone, pleeassseee help me im goin crazy.
Thanks loads if u can help me

    two things:
one, if it doesnt turn on at all, check your psu rails. if you overload one, then the system won't boot and in some cases wont even turn on.  also, check your connections to your case.  metal screws can ground components that shouldnt be grounded and cause problems.
second, i know this sounds stupid, but make sure you have your vid card inserted all the way.  once, i didnt push hard enough and not all the contacts were connected.  it would turn on and just idle with a blank screen, heh.  use a little force and make sure that thing is in tight.
    good luck
and as for the FSB, your board boots with the lowest setting as default, so you dont burn things up if you use a wire trick or something (hehe).  so, your 3000+ is able to handle the 100 fsb default until you set it correctly.
