K7N2 Lan woes -- please help

After installing my K7N2 Delta L, it's just been a world of problems.  I:m running WinXP and had to reinstall for this new motherboard.  Despite me fiddling with the Onboard Components section of the BIOS, and downloading the latest drivers, the LAN port just won't work for me.  Other computers in the home still work with the internet, so I know it's not an internet problem.  The display lights on the LAN port do not do anything.  I installed a LAN card, no help there.  The motherboard will just not accept that there's a LAN port there.  Even when I install the drivers, WindowsXP reports that it can't find the nVIDIA Network Adapter.  Please help!

I should also note that I have a LAN card, that isn't detected if the OnChip LAN is set to either Disabled or Auto.  Same goes for the sound card, it isn't detected in either Onboard Sound is set to Disabled or Auto.  Neither card is detected.
For now I am using the Onboard sound instead of the sound card.  However, the OnChip LAN refuses to be recognized, in either Disabled or Auto.  That means I have 2 LAN ports -- the LAN card I installed (to see if that would work when the Onchip LAN didn't) and the OnChip Lan -- neither are recognized in either Disabled or Auto mode.

  • 16:9 woes. please help

We shot our project using an XL2, 24p 16:9.
I digitized the show into FCP 5 at 16:9. My sequence presets are 16:9.
I placed a 2:35 matte on it using the "widescreen matte" feature in FCP. When I fullscreen play WITHIN FCP it looks great! Left and right edges go all the way to the sides of my 17" macbook pro's screen. When I export to compressor using anamorphic h264, it squishes the sides in. When I export (using sequence settings) a quicktime to the desktop and then open using quick time i get the same results, squished sides (stuff looks tall and skinny). If I open that same file up in FCP by simply double clicking it, it looks great when I fullscreen it.
What am I doing wrong? Please help. I have to have this in fedex first thing in the morning
oh ps- I'll be outputting to DVD for play on normal 4:3 tv's eventually
    macbook pro 17" Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Your material is anamorphic. When you display it with square pixels, it looks squished.
To get the proper aspect ratio, type in the appropriate numbers in Compressor. Say you wanted it to be 640 wide, (640 x 9) / 16 = 360, so put 360 for your height.

  • Lan Problems - Please Help!!!!

    Hey,
I'm really desperate for help. I recently upgraded my PC to an athlonXP 2500, 2x256mb corsair pc3200 ddr ram, MSI K7N2G-ILSR motherboard. Anyway i tried to use the LAN/Internet options for playing Age of wonders: shadow magic game but nothing happens. The button goes down like it's pressed but comes up again and nothing happens. It's as though it's using IPX/SPX but IPX/SPX isn't it installed, which it is. Anyway it says at the bottow that it uses TCP, which I know must be working as i can surf the internet on my cable internet connection via a router and LAN. I know it's not the game as it works on a friends, also i've had problems with Red Alert which uses IPX/SPX i think I'm totally lost on this. If anyone can offer any help - PLEASE DO!
    Thanx in Advance

If those games use IPX (I'm not sure because I don't have them games) then you might need to install the IPX protocol under control panel / network.

  • K8N Neo2 LAN problem, please help!

    Hi all,
I have some problem with both my 2 LAN port onboard. Please refer to my Sig for hardware details.
The first problem is, my Realtek 8169 LAN port is working fine, but yesterday I suddenly realize that it is always running at 10Mbps to my ADSL router rather than 100Mbps. My WAG54G does support 100Mbps and it is confirmed with my laptop. I try to set my Realtek LAN to 100M Full Duplex, but if I do that it will not receive any packet. If I try Auto Negociate, then it always falls back to 10Mbps. I tried 2 different LAN cable, the same result. Upgrade to the latest Realtek dirver, same result. If I just unplug the cable, it says 100Mbps Non Operational, but in theory, it should say 1000Mbps Non Operational.
The second problem is, if I try to use the nVidia LAN port, it will establish as 100Mbps, but I can't browser any web site. I can ping www.yahoo.com and receive response, but I can't see anything in my browser. If I unplug the cable, it says 1000Mbps Non Operational.
It's driven me crazy. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks!

check to see if the nvidia lan has a mac address
open up network connections and right click the nvidia lan connection after putting cable in that one, click status/support/details and check to see if mac address is listed, if its ff-ff-ff-ff etc you have no mac address set for it, you need to boot into bios and enable the hidden options press shift f2 then alt f3 , then goto intergrated peripherals and press return on the enter mac address, then enter the mac address located on the lpt/old printer port. then press f10 save and exit.
hope this is why it's not working, check your network cable as well, change it incase its faulty, or make sure your router can uplink / accept straight/crossover cable.

  • Problem with K7N2 Delta-ILSR, please help

First off, these are the specs for the computer to which I shall be referring in this post:
    K7N2 Delta-ILSR
    AMD 2700+
    1x512MB PC3200 Memory Corsair CM64SD512
    Seagate Barracuda 80GB 7200RPM SATA ST380013AS
    ATI 9600 Pro
    400 Watt power supply
    Cendyne 52x cd burner
Here's what happened.  I installed everything with only minor difficulties, mostly due to getting the hard drive to work.  They were worked through with little problem due, in large part, to this forum.  I installed Windows XP, and we ran a number of things with no problem after the OS installation.  The drivers for the video card loaded well.  3DMark2003 ran beautifully.  After I got that working, I went to put my friend's old hard drive in as a slave, so he could get the files off of it.  This seemed to work well enough.  Then we went to load the drivers for the motherboard.  When it got to the audio driver, we got the old "blue screen".  Then the computer reset and tried booting 98 from the old hard drive.  We shut down and disconnected the old hard drive.  Then we restarted to find that after the second screen XP would not begin to boot.  After some playing around we decided it best to reinstall, because with no combination could we get the OS to boot up.  So we reinstalled, with a full format.  This time, the first thing I went for was the motherboard drivers.  It stopped at the audio driver, again, and gave us the old "blue screen", again.  This time, instead of stopping the boot after the second screen, it came up with this message
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated before we decide what to do next.  Please let me know if any more information is required.  None of the bios settings have been altered, save to boot from the CD.
    Thank you,
    M.Cordier

    i would test ram

and go to drive makers site and get their testing utility

    This is the problem:
System turns on, and all fans come on including cpu fan, but no signal shown on the monitor. The cpu has a coppershim/and silver termal paste, i really dont think i crushed it when I put it on. The d-Bracket shows 2 red leds on top, two green on bottom.Tried two different video cards 7000,and 8500 did nothing. The xaser 11 cpu fan has a thermal diode that was hooked up originally. The msi motherboard also has one, that was not hooked up.. Should I try to hook up the msi diode??
What do I do?? Help please..
    thanks--

I would try reseating the CPU & the heatsink making sure that the heatsink fan is plugged into the motherboard & try different RAM. I suspect the RAM to be the biggest culprit.
Do you have a system speaker plugged into the motherboard? If so, how many beeps? One long, or, a continuos beep, etc...

  • My external USB 300gb Seagate woes - please help

    Hi,
I am on a Quicksilver 2002 Dual 1gig with 1.5 gb of RAM. OS 10.4.2
Recently I purchased a Seagate 300gb SATA drive and placed it into a USB 2.0 SATA/IDE enclosure. I have a USB 2.0 PCI card in my machine as well. I am using this as my first backup drive and I have another external 400gb drive on the way to serve as 2nd backup which will be stored offsite.
My problems started the first day I tried to backup my internal 160gb drive. First, after formatting the new drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) I started dumping large chunks of data into it and it seemed to run ok. I got a -51 error and had to start over.
Later, while pulling some folders over I noticed I didn't get the status window showing my estimated time for copying. I did get the spinning beach ball of death. This continued for quite some time. I shut off the enclosure and restarted the machine ( i believe it might have been a force quit)
Upon the restart I got the following error, " Disk Insertion" The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." Initialize, Ignore & Eject
After trying to mount the drive using Disk Utility I decided to run the FIrst Aid. I immediately got errors.
    Invalid B-tree node size
    Invalid B-tree node size
The volume needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
I then decided to re-format the drive. All was well and it showed up on my desktop. So I began to copy again. Same thing happened again. This time I got my drive almost backed up and got the funky spinning wheel near the end. I even copied over small folders one at a time.
I tried to do some research, but could not find any info on my particular issue. I found some firmware issue threads, but nothing describing my problem since I have the latest firmware version. I can't figure out why my file directory is corrupting like this as I have never had this happen before. Is it the drive itself?
I am very frustrated as I thought getting this drive would help to make my life easier. I have yet to receive my 400gb external drive to test, but unsure what to do with this current drive as it is proving to be unreliable.
Could it be the USB2.0 PCI card or enclosure? How do I trouble shoot something like that? Where should I start?
Would a firewire enclosure be better to utilize? Is it a SATA compatibility issue?
Am I better off with a SATA controller card and using the drive internally? Would doing a Archive and Install help anything? Should I even bother updating to 10.4.7?
I am at my wits end and have spent WAY too much time trying to research this. I even called Seagate tech support and they were utterly useless.
I would appreciate any and all comments or suggestions. All I want is a reliable redundant backup system.
    thanks!

Hi, Terry, and welcome to the Discussions!
There is a difference in technologies to consider when deciding on a card. SATA cards work with SATA (serial ATA) drives. ATA-133 cards work with ATA (PATA/IDE/EIDE/Ultra ATA) drives. If you're planning to hook an existing ATA drive to a SATA card, you'll need an adapter for each such drive you hook to it, which costs additional $ and won't take full advantage of the significant speed increase of SATA over ATA, being limited by the ATA drive itself, at least as I understand it.
You probably need to decide which technology will best suit your needs before anyone can give a specific recommendation on any particular card. (It sounds like your third hard drive is ATA, not SATA.)
SATA drives have different power cables for which an adapter cable is necessary to connect to your existing power cable connector. They don't use any jumpers to set the drive configurations, unlike ATA drives. They use a different interface cable as well, and not the ribbon cable like the one(s) currently in your Mac.
The "budget" low-cost, PC cards of either type won't work. Again, you need a card with firmware specifically designed to run on a Mac. Brands to look at are FirmTec, Acard, Sonnet, SIIG, and (just recently) the OWC offering previously mentioned. Still, insure that the card is made for a Mac.
Check out this page, which contains a variety of Mac-compatible ATA and SATA cards. You can then use the brand/part/model numbers to compare prices from other vendors like Newegg and others, if you desire. As previously noted, some SATA cards come with the necessary power cable adapter and seven-pin SATA data interface cable. Others don't, so check to see what you might need should you decide to go with SATA; the devil is in the specific details...

  • Postfix, maildir, os x woes - please help

I am using Postfix on Mac OSX Tiger. I want to use my mac as a mail
server and also mail archive machine. For archiving, I thought it would
be good to use IMAP and Maildir. IMAP works fine - I am connecting
through Outlook on Windows to mail server on Mac. However, the mail is
not delivered where I want nor is it saved in the format I would like.
I want the mail to be delivered to /Users/John/Library/Mail/Maildir AND
use maildir format. Instead, the mail is delivered to var/mail and is
saved in one file "John" in MBOX format. I've been messing around with
this for over three months and can't figure out why I cannot make this
    work.
    First, a few sub-questions...
    1. If I have postfix running under my user acct (for example) to what
folder (full path, please) can I expect my mail to be delievered?
    2. If in the main.cf (or whatever), I add the parameter "home_mailbox =
johnmail", to what folder (full path, please) can I expect my mail to
    be delivered now?
    3. If I change the default delivery location by doing what I list in
#2, do I need to first create the directories and set all permissions
manually? Or will postfix do all of this for me?
I'll post my main.cf below, but, just for reference, know that:
    mailbox_command = /usr/bin/procmail -a "$DOMAIN" ##Added today
    home_mailbox = ## has had the value of "Maildir/"
    "/users/john/library/mail/mymail/" and "$home/maildir/" (all no
    quotes).
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong??
    Thanks

  • KT6V LAN problem, please help! :)

on-board LAN on KT6V MS-7021 not working... ive plugged in a 3com office 10/100 pci and it works fine. on-board LAN says its connected (lan, not net), and recognizes cable being un-plugged at the other end, wont ping anything... show workgroup... connect to the net etc...
comp is 2 days old :( i'm downloading updates from MSI site right now, not sure if there actually updates to what ive got or not since the computer is so new.
    any suggestions ?

    codeblue20:
Based on your symptoms, I'm willing to bet that you have the exact same problem that I have (which has already been alluded to by others above.)  My KT6V-LSR came out-of-the-box with an invalid MAC address (Ethernet address) set at the hardware level.  Reiterated, my KT6V-LSR came out-of-the-box with a MAC address of 11-22-33-44-55-66, which is invalid.
The KT6V-LSR implements the VT8237 South Bridge chip, which internally implements the MAC layer where the MAC address is stored.
Almost all Ethernet device manufacturers designate somewhere on their products what MAC address has been assigned to a particular device.  MSI is no different...the MAC address assigned to your particular motherboard should be on a label somewhere on the motherboard.  On my motherboard, the label was affixed to the side of the last PCI slot.  (If your computer is still constructed, then use a small angled mirror and flashlight to view the side of that PCI slot!)  There's no indication that it is a MAC address...I just recognized the standard 6 octets (bytes).  Sure enough, the first three octets are 00-0C-76, which is Micro-Star International’s “Organizationally Unique Identifier” (OUI).
Following-up on gazx’s reply to you, the VIA “Rhine II” software driver allows one to dynamically change the MAC address at the application layer.  Note that this is a driver specific setting, and not all NIC drivers offer this option because it may not be applicable to the NIC’s design.  If you obtain the valid MAC address from the aforementioned label, and use the software driver to override what is set at the hardware level, everything will be peachy.  However, this is only a workaround (i.e., treating the symptom and not the problem.)  This workaround also has some deployment and support cost impacts for larger organizations (such as mine.)
To truly solve the problem is to reprogram the VT8237 at the hardware level with the correct MAC address (i.e, so that no application-layer override is necessary.)
We can all download the (latest?) VIA LAN drivers for this motherboard from MSI’s website.  Within the ZIP archive, there is a EEPROM programming utility.  Unfortunately, it is poorly documented.  It also seems to be the wrong utility for the KT6V-LSR.  The utility indicates that it is for the earlier VT8235 South Bridge chip, and not for the VT8237 chip that the KT6V-LSR actually implements.  Even if the utility is compatible with the VT8237, I sure couldn’t get it to work!
Like most of you, I dread any RMA process, especially when the computer is already constructed.  I would much rather reprogram the VT8237 with MSI’s guidance!
As of today, I have attempted to open a technical support case with MSI concerning all of this.  Wish me (us) luck!

  • Glossy 2011 iMac woes; please help me with plan B

Apple and Aperture-loving photographer here... My 2006 iMac was limping along with Aperture 3 and I was looking forward to the iMac refresh, hoping for an anti-glare option.  Despite the lack of that, decided to try the new one anyway (27" 3.1GHz)  and after a week of adjusting lighting, position, calibration, I really just can't stand the gloss.  I've really tried.  I know all about the films but that's not an option for me.  I plan to return it before my 14 days are out, but I would like suggestions for another option.  I also have a 2008 Macbook Pro that I use for editing pics when I travel. I would just buy an external monitor for that, but as I can't go above 4 gb RAM on that, Aperture is pretty slow (but usable) there as well.  I don't mind that for the occasional travel editing, though.
So, wanting to continue to work on a Mac, I can:
#1 Get a Mac Pro and antiglare monitor.  But MacPro seems like overkill for me, since photo editing is the only really intense thing I do.  I am more of a photo artist than a business person.  Also, it would be hard to buy a non-Sandy Bridge/ Thunderbolt unit right now.
#2 Upgrade my MBPro and get an antiglare monitor.  I've read suggestions here to do that, get the ssd option to run the os and Aperture.  But I worry about only 8 gb RAM expandability.  And I'm basically happy with the MBP I have now.   I wonder how hard it would be to sell and what I would get for it.
#3 Get a 21" iMac, add SSD and RAM; and get a 2nd antiglare monitor.  I would probably get a 24".  I've never worked on 2 monitors, but am intrigued by the idea. But I wonder if the gloss still bother me when I move my photoshop and aperture tools over to the the iMac?  Or, if I turn off the iMac and use it just like a tower to power my external monitor, is that just silly?
    #4 Your suggestions???
Other things about my situation, fwiw:  I work with large RAW files from my Nikon D7000, masters stored on external firewire drives. I am not necessarily on a budget, but I don't like to spend more than I have to.  (eg, macpro option)  I like to buy good quality and use things well for a long time.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
    Jacki

    Jacki-
I too find glossy displays unacceptable. I used a Mac Pro with dual displays plus a 17" Macbook Pro for Aperture for the last five years because a Mac Pro with good graphics card used to be required for strong Aperture performance, and field work demands a laptop. However the two-boxes workflow is a PITA.
Although the best pre-2011 iMacs and MBPs had strong CPUs and some had good GPUs they lacked i/o, leaving only Mac Pros for really strong Aperture workflows.
Thunderbolt changes everything. Top MBPs are for the first time true desktop-replacement boxes and iMacs no longer lack i/o capability.
So far, Aperture seems to run well in about 4 GB of RAM, so with other apps involved 8 GB is exactly appropriate. And although 15/17" MBPs only have two RAM slots they can be upgraded to 16 GB total as RAM prices continue to fall.
SSD as a boot drive and for the Aperture Library is recommended. In my case I will add a second SSD or a fast hard drive into the optical drive slot.
IMO 2011 MBP + external display is a great solution, which based on experience I consider much nicer for my workflow than desktop + laptop that I have been doing for 5 years. The top MBPs are now true DTR boxes. I say top MBPs because for Aperture the strongest available GPU is very desirable.
Regarding displays IMO folks should personally compare matte versus glossy displays to choose what they prefer. Personally I chose a high-rez matte 17" MBP and for value external displays prefer anti-glare displays like the Nec 2490 or for cheaper the Viewsonic VP2365, but to each his or her own preferences.
You mention adding things to an iMac, so I should note that 2011 iMac third-party drive upgrading is currently the subject of controversy. One should not necessarily plan on changing 2011 iMac drives except via Apple. See OWC commentary at: (sorry the hosts are editing out the link that I would put here, so google apple further restricts upgrades on new imacs).

    hello every one ...
I have a Lan network .. i want to enter another PC by using JAVA ...
I Know the User Name and the password ... so how can i do that ...
    please help ...
    best regards

Again, what do you want to do once you connect?
If you want to run command line programs you can use Telnet. To do this you will need to obtain a telnet server that you can run on the other machine. Most Unix and Linux systems come with one of these. For windows you will need to buy one or find a good Open Source or freeware server. If you have the cash (about $300USD) you can get the Hummingbird Exceed software, it has a Telnet and FTP server built in. As we all know Windows = M$.
Once you have the server you can write a client to run commands, reply 7 to Telnet to Unix box from Java App provides a simple swing client to run commands over telnet.
Another choice is to write both the client and the server. I've posted examples of how to do this on this forum. My examples are just a simple multiuser chat program, but the code could be adapted to other uses.
Again, the question is, what is your requirement?
