K7N2 platinum edition

Sir Svet,
I have a MSI k7N2 platinum edition. I have some problems regarding my ddr memory. I have 2 - 1gb ddr400 team elite gold edition. If I put the 2 memory in the motherboard at the same time, the motherboard won't accept it. It creates buzzing noise and my pc halts. If I remove either one of the memory, it starts just fine. But if I use another memory (256mb ddr400 kingston), it works just fine. What seems to be the problem?
The bios version is still the original ones. No modification or what so ever have been done to the motherboard. Can upgrading the bios to the latest version can solve this problem?
Thank you very much

Sir Svet,
I'm using CHB DIMM1 (Purple) for my master DDR memory. I add another to DIMM2 (Purple) for the spare memory and when I restart my pc it buzz for two times. Even if I install the other memory to the CHA DIMM3 it still doesn't work. I'll try to buy a new PSU tom and I'll see what happen. I'll update you. Thanks.
The advantage of memtest is it uses little cpu power and therefore doesn't tax the PSU much, so it may reveal a problem with the memory modules before you have to spend any money. Having said that cheap generic psus generally are a false economy.

Hello guys is my first time in this forum
I buy a MSI 865PE Neo2-P Platinum Edition and a P4 3.2 Box Northood Fsb 800 with the cooler on.
My question is what Cooler is better than the box one from Intel?
What 512 memory are work perfect on this sistem?
    thanks
    Paulo

    hi Tritek,
    welcome to the forum.
    1. do your system have problem with heat? What is the CPU temperature read? Is the stock fan too loud for you? There are lots of cooler out there, expensive one especially, are way better than Intel stock cooler. But do you need better cooler?
    2. any 512MB DDR works. To work "perfect", you need DDR400 to fully utilize it.

  • MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition memory question

    Hi there,
I've currently got a MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition (Nforce 3) motherboard and 2X 512 MB Corsair Value Select memory modules (both double sided) running at DDR 400 - this runs completely stable and has done for a number of months. I would like to increase my memory to 1.5 Gig but there seems to be a lot of issues?
I originally planned to buy an additional 512 Meg Corsair value select chip and place it in Bank 3 - is this acceptable?
I assue that i would have to drop the speed down to DDR 333 from 400, could anyone tell me how much of a difference this actually makes (when playing FPS games Doom3 etc..) ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i've been looking through both this forum and the Corsair one and i cant seem to find the answer.
    thanks in advance !

Just note that there are combinations of two sticks that will also make the board run in DDR333 mode (see page 2-8 of the manual). For example, using two double-sided sticks in DIMM2 and DIMM3. I've actually managed to get it to work at DDR400 in those two slots, but it's not perfectly stable and overclocking diminishes drastically. Bottom line is the system will work fine when forced to DDR333...as long as you don't expect to overclock the RAM to any significant degree.

  • MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition PROBLEM

Hi (my english is not good sorry for that)
I just got my new computer:
    MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition
    AMD Athlon64 3200+
    Western Digital Caviar 160Gb
    PNY Verto GeForce 6800Ultra 256Mb
    1GB Value Select pc3200
    Levicom 500W
The Problem is that when i start the computer, it boot and die directly no bootscreen what so ever, it boot and die.  i dont know what to do plz help me

Make sure you have Both the ATX Wires on.. theres the Big one! (21Pins i think).. and the Small 4Pin Connector both need to be connected.. if you havent done so yet.. Another thing you could do is Take everything out and place it on a cardboard or something appropriate for the mobo.... I think your motherboard is shorting?.. if it's touching your case.. I had somewhat the same issue long time ago.. give it a try..if you want hope it helps..

  • MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition Low Benchmark scores

    Hi, can someone please help?
I have these details of my friends new PC :
    MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.2 GHz Socket 754, 512 KB cache
    Corsair Value S. PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB
I have run a sandra memory bandwidth test on it and I think he gets really low scores for his spec.
    int buff'd 2657
    float buff'd 2656
This is the scores he gets un tweaked and not overclocked. Do these sound like reasonable out of the box scores??
    Any information would be appreciated

not 100% true either beacuse if you then run encoding apps etc which are mem bandwidth dependant the 3C would own. it is not true to say they are not real world results, just games and most apps dont bottleneck on the mem bandwidth.....now that is will be different on 64-bit coding but of course the A64 would still own the 3C on them.
just for the record i would never buy an intel.

Is it worth the money I wonder?  There aren't that many programs written wich can run in 64 bit mode! This is truly the main reason for getting this board unless all you guys have a load of money and want to be at the cutting edge.
I think I'll wait till its get worth the money...  or am I completely wrong here?

  • MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition Memory plz help!

    Hi
    http://www.datorbutiken.com/se/defa...2X512DDRCA400PR
Is this memory ok with MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition ?
If it is, do you know how well its oc:s?

He would be talking about this:
    http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-466&depa=0
But I wouldn't reccomend that memory mainly because I have heard mixed reviews about it. You can get the same (if not better) memory at either of these links, the only difference between the two links is the color of the heatspreader (as far as i can tell). This is the memory I have and it works very well, plus its much cheaper:

  • K8N Neo4 platinum edition v1 (bios W7125NMS V1.6 062305) -- after POST stucked

    hi i'm runningan athlon 3000+ in K8N Neo4 platinum edition v1 (bios W7125NMS V1.6 062305) and i have a very like problem:
today i tried to install freebsd(install started fine, nothing went wrong, i repartioned my hdd and the installer started),
for some reason i had to abort the installation process. since then i can not boot in from any device(cd,usb the hdd is in a
half way to bsd install state so it's not an option atm).
the post screen comes up and i can interact with it in a way(i can press tab and it drops me
to the detailed post screen,ctrl-alt-del also works i can restart with it), but i neither can enter to the BIOS setup /DEL/  nor the boot menu /F11/.
i've tried reseting bios settings by flushing cmos(removed the battery, pressed SW1. something must happened because the post now checks for sata devices
and the graphical screen/that one u can bypass by pressing TAB/ was not presented before).
it also detects my hdd and my cd-rom too. but still nothing happens after the POST.
others said updating my bios would help. but still there is no option to boot from.
if i am doing wrong something please let me know,
    thank you for your help
    Andrew

    the solution:
disable ide1/slave when the broken hdd is not connected and bios accessible; poweroff; reconnect the broken hdd to the PC;poweron; boot from a linux livecd; gpart/fdisk/something to repair the broken hdd;be happy life is nice
the trick was that bios and post is not messing with the broken hdd(while it was blocked in the bios)
so i could boot with a live cd when my hdd was connected to the PC.
since linux trixx out bios i was abel to interact with the post_killer_hdd (even it was blocked in the bios).
i hope somebody will be able to use it one day if something is not understandable drop me a PM.
problem solved im installing the os to the hdd, topic is SOLVED.
maybe the other guy who has some similar issues with his config/hdd could use this post too.
    regards,

  • K7N2 Platinum does not boot

I have a K7N2 Platinum with an Athlon XP-M 2500+ (overclocked to ~3200+). I recently bought some new ram (2 x http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/65719). I fitted it, turned the machine back on and was presented with a blank screen. I've tried removing the new ram and fitting the old but to no avail, there were previously 3 x 256 mb chips. I've tried them together and individually. I've also tried refitting the processor (and thermal paste) as well as removing the graphics card, SATAs, PATA and DVD Drive.
Conversely I have NOT reset the CMOS, I didn't want to try that because I have no idea whether it would help and didn't really want to make the problem worse.
The D-Bracket 2 shows 1-Green 2,3,4-Red and the various drives connected to spin up but nothing appears on screen.
Anyone have any ideas, any assistance would be much appreciated.

When you powered it up without any ram did you get any beeps?
Look at the caps on your MB for any that are swelled, popped or leaking.
Look at the MB P/S connector and look for if any burnt resistors or caps on the MB and get your nose close to it and smeel for any burns.
If all looks well then disconnect all cables (power & data) from the MB, all you want connected at this time is the case speaker, cpu+fan, 1 stick of ram (try different ram and slots) and graphic card, remove all add-on cards, USB devices, serial anything and everything including the KB and mouse, everything but what I mentioned above. Now, pull the P/S cord and push youe case start button to drain any charge off the MB and components then clear your cmos, plug the power cord back in and try to boot now.
If it does not boot then pull the ram and try to boot, here you should get a continous sting of beebs which would indicate that the BIOS was OK.
If you did not get any beeps then it could be your P/S, CPU, MB or even the cmos itself.
You can take your CPU to any PC shop and get it tested usally for free if you shop there alot. If you have a DVM then you could check your P/S yourself or try a friends P/S to test that piece, as for the MB, cmos you could have a shop test them but most will charge for this and could cost almost as much as getting a new MB.

  • MSI K7N2 Platinum SATA Limitation ...

"Some systems BIOS have capacity limitations :
a 33.8GB or 66,060,287 LBAs limitation and, if exceeded, may cause the system to hang during boot, capacity reduction or it can truncate or wrap the cylinders when auto-detect options set in the CMOS. FAT16 based operating systems are also limited  to 8.4GB. New INT13 Extensions in BIOS and FAT32 based operating systems are both required to acheive full capacity.[/I]"
    Hi !
I have found this limitations in MSI K7N2 Platinum Phoenix Bios V11.4 with HD SATA Seagate 80 GB ... what should I do ?
    Thanks !

Just a thought, but on some Seagate SATA drives they do come with a jumper clip that limits the drive to 32GB, which would explain the hard drive size you have reported.
The thing you need to look at is below:
    http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/specs/sata/st380013as.html
(NOTE: If using Mozilla Firefox, you may need your fixed width font in your browser to be set to something like Letter Gothic.)
Note the jumper that says "alternate capacity (32GB)".  If it's there, remove it and try again.

XL's is verified by anand to top at 2-3-3 on DDR466 so this would be how much of a oce on a 3700sandy at those timings.
Well the 3700 San Diego har a max multilplier equals 11 and you can use the lower ones also .
So you have more options than one to reach say you set a goal for 2700mhz assuming you have air cooling (2.7ghz seems to be what most aim for without extreme cooling)
HTT reference clock at 233 with memory index 200 times multiplier 11 gives 2530mhz on the cpu and 233mhz/466DDR on the memory .
To maintain same memory speed (around or below 233mhz) with higher cpu frequency you must use a divider by setting max memory speed to 166 etc and use a higher HTT clock reference .
    E.g
    HTT=270
    Multiplier=10
    Memory index=166
    Gives CPU/12 divider
    CPU is then 2.7ghz
    Memory speed = cpuspeed/12 = 2700/12 = 225mhz or DDR450 .
    Multilplier memory index dividers:
    7x with 133 : cpu/11
    8x with 133 : cpu/12
    9X with 133 : cpu/14
    10x with 133 : cpu/15
    11x with 133 : cpu/17
    7x with 166 : cpu/9
    8x with 166 : cpu/10
    9X with 166 : cpu/11
    10x with 166 : cpu/12
    11x with 166 : cpu/13
    7x with 183 : cpu/8
    8x with 183 : cpu/9
    9X with 183 : cpu/10
    10x with 183 : cpu/11
    11x with 183 : cpu/13
    7x with 200 : cpu/7
    8x with 200 : cpu/8
    9X with 200 : cpu/9
    10x with 200 : cpu/10
    11x with 200 : cpu/11
( with 200 you will se the divider is the same as multiplier , thats why some calls this 1:1 )
There are also some tables for the dividers made by orcar wu over at extremesystems in this thread:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=41595&highlight=a64+divider+table]
Using this calculation you can figure out your ram frequency before trying it in the bios .
E.g use 183 mem index/divider with cpu multiplier 10x with 2.7ghz as the target .
    10 x 270 = 2700
    memory will run at
    2700/11 = ~ 245mhz or DDR490

  • Any MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition S754 nForce3 users?? Need advice..

Hi, thinking of building a budget system around a S739 Clawhammer 3700 with an
MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition S754 nForce3 board. But have a few concerns..
    - Will this board run on this chip or will it need updated BIOS to do so?
    - Will it work with crucial 3200DDR memory.CL=3 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.6V • 64Meg x 64 ?
    - Can it take an extra (3rd) 512 stick of this ram?
    Thanks.

I have ran the Neo s754 model with 2 * crucial CT6464Z40B 512MB cas 3 modules and never had one single problem with the combination
of A64 GC version , mobo and RAM .
Three modules is tough on the single channel memory controller though , as it would have to deal with 6 banks
and you probably see the ram max speed as DDR333 and 2T commandrate is what it can cope with.

  • Hard drive problems with 975X Platinum edition

    Hi guys.
I was wondering if you could help.
I recently upgraded my pc after the power supply was shot on my old one, I decided it was time I did a big update anyway, as it was using non pci express etc.
I plumped for the 975X Platinum complete with Samsung DVD writer, nividia 8800GTX and two Western Digital SATA II drive, a 250GB for my 'C' drive and a 500GB for my 'D' drive.
Everything went in fine, install Vista Premium perfectly, I copied across my documents I'd backed up onto an external drive onto the 'D' drive no problems...however, after downloading some Vista updates, I went to do a reboot, and it hung during POST.
After much frustration the D-thingy lights were showing it was halting during the IDE Controller initialisation.  By a process of elimination, I discovered the bios won't get through POST while the 500GB 'D' is connected.
I've checked that it's not the SATA cable, the power cable, the SATA socket on the motherboard...but it just will not start up with that drive hooked up.  However, if I starting Vista without the 'D' connected, then connect it while it's running (yes, I know I shouldn't really do this), do a scan for new hardware, the drive starts up mounts itself as 'D' and works happy as anything.
Could you tell me if there's some configuration I have wrong in the BIOS, or is this just simply a faulty hard drive???  As far as I know I have everything set up in BIOS correctly, such as having SATA set to IDE and not RAID etc...but I guess I could have missed something.
Any help you can offer would be much appreciate...before I decide to just send the hard drive back and hope it is that, and not something I'm overlooking.

Sorry, yeah, I got a little carried away and excited.
The problem I noticed using the Western Digital tool was that it was seeing both the drives as the 'C' drive, so obviously on booting with them both connected, it was getting into a mess.
I have no idea if I should have done this in the first place, but, when I put it all together, on the main board, there appears to be one SATA connector that's set on it's own, under the others.  I'd used that for the DVD writer and placed the hard drive ones all together.  So I just swapped the 'C' hard drive into the lone connection, and put the DVD Writer and 'D' drive into the ones that are clumped together.  It seemed to boot up fine, then using the Western Digital tool again, set up the 'D' drive.
    I've had no problems since.
I always thought that SATA was just plug it in, and it sorts itself out...so dunno if I should have done that in the first place.  I'm still getting used to the newer stuff...I've made do with none PCI Express and IDE for ages now.
It must have been me setting it up wrong in the first place I guess.
