K7n2 will not let me use my modem. Help.

Ack!  Another day another problem.  I have finally gotten my HD installed and everything seems to be working correctly.  I am using XP pro for my OS.  I am hoping to hop on the internet to get any updates, etc.
I am installing an Aopen 56K modem.  I installed it, XP sees it and installs new hardware.  In device manager, it looks fine, and I did the modem queue with great success.  The problem is when I go into network properties and try to create a new connection.  I go through the wizard and when it gets to the screen where I'd normally be able to select modem or broadband, the only option is broadband.  I know this board has an onboard RJ-45 connector, but I'm pretty sure you can have that as well as a modem.  I'm stuck.
Has anyone installed a modem on this yet?  What com port and PCI slot are you using?  I don't know if that's the problem or not.
Thanks for any help.

I really don\'t want to have to format my HD and start all over.  What if that doesn\'t work?
Will XP fit on a 4 GB HD?  I have one sitting around and could format that, install XP, then see if the modem will install.  If it still doesn\'t work, at least I know it\'s not the OS on my current HD.
Anybody else have any suggestions?  Is ANYONE running a 56K modem?  ANY 56K modem?  I just want to know if it is possible, IRQ, Com port, etc. etc.  Maybe it\'s a MB flaw and they never knew it because no-one ever tried to run a modem on it.  They\'d have to add a new BIOS for modem support.  At least I hope they would.
Any help, always appreciated.

Augster,
I'm not running a modem on the board but I'm sure it will run one. I did a dry run on my machine and I use the same OS as you and It brought me to the screen I described earlier. At that point it allowed me to choose a modem or broadband. I continued with modem and it prompted me for ISP and phone #, It created a connection like it normally would, so I really don't understand it??? ?( Your saying it won't even let you choose modem? I'm at a loss here, I haven't heard of a bad install of XP operating this way. If you want to try the other HD though, yes XP should fit on it.
P.S. What scooter suggested above is another way to make a connection, try that first!
