I connected the 4 pin (jpw1) 12v power connector on my mobo to my 250 watt PS and the video dropped out.  If I disconnect the 4 pin connector, it works.  Should this be connected?  If not, why is it there?

That connector is used to supply extra power to the cpu.  If the system works fine without it being connected, no need to connect it IMHO.

  • Does anyone connect the ATX 12V power connector?

Does anyone connect there power connector to the ATX 12V connector? The 12V power connector is used to provide power to the CPU, or is that what the 20-pin connecter is for? The 12V connecter is usually next to the socket and has 4 pins. thx for the help  8)

plug the 4 pin in it should be more stable
    update bios as well

  • Is there a difference between Thrive and Excite power connector

Is there a difference between Thrive and Excite power connector? I am asking because there are a lot of Docks for Thrive 10" tablets....... If the power connector is the same, I should be able to dock my Excite 10" onto the same Dock, and purchase a similar poer adapter?
What are your thoughts - is it possible?

As far as I know AC adapter for Thrive uses 30W and Excite only 10W AC adapter.
Have you checked specification for both devices.

  • KT2 COMBO, Is 12v power Connector Needed?

Just Bought a "KT2 COMBO" to upgrade mi good old 6330 lite, and add some 2100 DDR Ram, and a new xp processor ( 2000+ ).
The problem is I'm using the same case, and the power supply in it has no 12 V ATX Power connector.
In the Quick User Guide, it refers to it (p 2-9), saying it's to provide power to the CPU.
Would the system work ok if I use only the main power connector?
Has anyone tried using it this way?

If you don't have stability problems it's probably fine.
You can buy an adapter to allow you to convert a mulex ( like you plug into an HDD ) to the 4 pin 12V plug.
If you don't have one you might try looking in local shops for butn out PSUs that have them, cut the wire and solder it to your PSU's output ( yellow to yellow, black to black )

  • KT880 delta 12v power connector

I just purchased a Kt880 delta and see that it has a 12v cpu power connector which my atx power supply does not have.   do I need this connector?.  The msi web site says it is used for p4's.

Yes, a new PSU is in order. The KT880 board relies heavily upon the 12V and 3.3V, while (like many newer boards) largely ignoring the 5V.
As mentioned previously, avoid cheap PSU's, as they cannot always deliver the power needed for modern systems. Many cheap PSU's use a high amp rating on the 5V rail, to claim they have a PSU that can deliver more juice, but they simply cannot run a newer system.

  • ATX 12V Power Connector

    Good morning everyone,
On my P35 Neo 2 FR the connector has 8 holes with 4 plugged out by a small piece of white plastic. When I assembled the machine I didn't think about it. I used the 4-prong cable to connect.
Does anyone know the use of the other 4 holes on that motherboard?
    Have a nice day.

If your power supply has an 8-Pin connector or an additional 4-Pin connector, you can take off the plastic cover and use all Pins of the mainboard connector.
If your PSU only has one +12V-CPU-4-Pin plug just leave it as it is now.  There are adaptors but they are of no use whatsoever. You CPU will get enough power.

  • RMAs, and 12v connectors!!!!

Ok i keep e-amiling MSI about my RMA status and still no word! It's been 12 Days!!!!! Has anyone experienced such long delays?? Can they atleast send me some feedback?
Anyways this is all because of their crappya$$ mobos.
My k7n2 delta-l started making the most annoying noise since the day i installed windows XP. I swear, i was about to hang myself to rid myslef of the noise that i still hear to this day! That damn 12v connector is a living hell....
Anyways when ever i get my mobo back from the lifelessness of MSI, should i connect it?? I heard the mobos need this power help....?
    Thanks guys....

    hi
the 12v power connector to the cpu is to provide stability but is not needed to use the computer.
some people like me have connected it and some people have not.
try to unplug it and hope for the best.
    bye

  • 12v ATX Power Connector

Ive just modded my new power supply to fit my bespoke case, but the ATX 12v power connector(4pin) has a fault.
when connected it causes nasty noices through the speaker system like its got a break in the wires from the PSU to the connector on the board.
    The question is......
I havent got it connect at the mo, the pc is running ok so do i need to use it??????

PS cant take the PSU back its got no case anymore

    the 20 pin atx has 5x 5v feeds but only 1x 12v
this is because in the past 5v feed the vga card and the cpu
now modern vga cards lie yours feed of the 12v as does the cpu
now a pin on the atx moules i rated to 6a max giving 72 watts max
many amd cpu pull that on their own
this is why these and other boards have the extra 2x 12v feeds

  • Ibook as external hard disk? and power connector question

I have a 12’ ibook G4 for five years, it has been great, I have dropped it recently and the power connector is smacked and loosens now. Is there anyway I can change the connector on the laptop side? its now unable to charge up the battery.
Secondly is it possible to retrieve the data inside the hard disk without any power supply to the ibook, like connecting the ibook to iMac via firewire?
    Any other solution is welcome.
    Cheers,
    Vincent

Hello Vincent and welcome to the boards. The only ways to retrieve the data from the drive are repair the power converter board or pull the hard drive and put it into an enclosure. Then you can mount the enclosed drive with the iMac. A converter board is fairly cheap and there are Do-It-Yourself tutorials like iFixit
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/iBook-G4-12-Inch-800-MHz-1-2-GHz-DC-In-Board/ 160/1#top
If you have a 1.33Mhz CPU there is a separate tutorial
The part is @ $25 usd on ebay

There are also repair houses that will do it for you but you will need to look around.

  • Computer wont start when 12V CPU connector is plugged in

    Hello.
First of all, I'am from Norway so my english is perhaps not that impressive :P
I recently decided to upgrade my computer a bit and for now, these are the parts that are installed (only the nessecary parts for a startup is installed for now. Installing the rest as I see things are working) :
    MSI PM8PM-V
    Intel Core Duo 2 E6300
    512 DDR2
    120gb western digital
    Geforce 6800 256MB
Now to the problem. On the motherboard there is a plug that is for (quote from the manual) "This 12V  power connector is used to provide power to the CPU" so in my little world this is an important thing to have. The problem is that if this plug is used/connected the computer does not start at all. Nothing happens what so ever. However if the plug is not connected the computer starts and is running fine but the monitor is dark and it's acting like it's in sleepmode (the monitor-LED is yellow not green as it is when it's active). So in other words I'am not getting any further...

  • 12 V CPU power connector

I just bought the K7N2 Delta-ILSR motherboard to replace my old ASUS one, and I found one problem. This new motherboard has a connector that just says:
    ATX 12V Power Connector: JPW1
This 12V power connector is used to provide power to the CPU.
Now, my power supply does not have anything I can fit in that connector, is there any solution that does not involve buying a new one?
    Thanks!

    Hi all
i just hooked up my 12v power connecter(little square plug next to main power plug) and all seems ok so far but i was wondering as you said jmbook1 some people have had problems hooking it up and i just wonder'd what type of probs can occur in doing this.??
my rails are on thread called dvd playback probs but were taken before hooking this connecter up so they may differ now?not sure will check later.

  • Internal hard drive power connector?

Just picked up a Maxtor 500 Gig SATA and the power connector that came with the drive is a four-pin? Please help if I am missing something... my G5 has a data and power connector at the bottom of the lower drive bay, but the power connector looks like a 15-pin similar to that on the drive itself. Do I need an adapter? I keep reading posts about how obvious the installation is but I am totally vexed! Is that my G5 is a first generation the problem?
    Thanks

Thank you for the reply. However, my problem remains.
The power and data fit into the drive, and the data cable correctly fits into the G5 data interface, but the power connector supplied with the drive has a female 15 pin connector for the drive and a male 4 pin to the G5. But my G5 seems to have a 15 pin female connector for power. Also contradictory to everything I have read, the power connector from the G5 is not hidden underneath the drive bay, it is right in front of it. I am not an idiot, but I feel like one
Please let me know if I am missing something or if I have the wrong power connector...

  • Smoking MacBook Pro Power connector

Hello, I am working on a 13" MacBook Pro for a coworker. She said one day she plugged in the power cable and smoke started rolling from the laptop near the power connector. She quickly unplugged the power cord from the computer and because it was 1 week out of warranty it got put in the cabinet and sat for a couple months.
Yesterday I disassembled the computer and the power connector board has some slight discoloring and there does appear to be a damaged component on it (it is small, looks kind of like a SMD Voltage regulator, but I'm not sure).
My question is this, Has anyone had this problem before and successfully fixed it? Is it just the power connector board or could there have been another failure on the mainboard that caused the connector board to fail, and subsequently cause a replacement to fail if I were to get one (I loked over the mainboard and it appears OK)? Could the power adapter have failed and caused this problem  ie over-voltage (the cord and brick appear to be in perfect condition)?
    Thanks
    -Brad

Normally when we get problems like these in we change both the power adapter and the power connector board

  • D10 - Voltage of 10 pin and 8 pin power connector

    Dear All
I got a D10 here, the power supply suddenly stops to work this afternoon, I have already called my brother in US to find me FRU parts. But this might take one week or longer, I borrow a big 850W PSU from my colleague, but it doesn't have 10 pin and 8 pin power connectors on it. I know the voltage used by computer internally are 3.3V, 5V and 12V. Just wondering, what voltage shall I supply to these 10 pin and 8 pin connectors?
I sent the demaged one for recycling,..
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Andres

If you're talking about the 2x4 and 2x5 connectors used to power video cards, those are +12V.
