K7N2G and XP 2400+ (cpu speed wrong)

Can someone tell me how to get the K7N2G Board to display the correct processor speed? I have a AMD XP 2400+ that the board shows on post as an XP 1800+ I've updated the bios to the most recent, but anytime I changed the Jumper on the board or try to adjust the settings in the bios the pc wont boot up. I've replaced the board only to have the exact same problem. I've also replaced the processor.

i supposedly purchased an AMD ATHLON XP2500+
however, under system properties and msinfo32, xp tells me i have an AMD ATHLON 1900+ 1.46 Ghz
I have MSI K7N2G, FSB 133Mhz and Pheonix Award Bios 6
XP-Home Service Pack 1
Please let me know how u corrected this issue.

  • MSI 745 Ultra mobo and XP 2400+ cpu problem

Well I just bought an Athlon XP 2400+ cpu as an upgrade for this computer. I am having a hard time getting it to work properly. My setup is as follows:
MSI 745 Ultra mobo (BIOS 1.6 and tried 1.5)
    AMD Athlon XP 2400+
    Samsung pc2700 memory (2x256meg sticks)
Asylum Geforce 4 Ti4600 video card
    Unknown 10/100 nic
    Maxtor 30gig HD
The first problem was, the XP 2400+ cpu was auto detected as an 1800+ running at 1.5ghz. I looked on the MSI cpu support page and it said to set the BIOS settings to 133 for the CPU FSB and 15 for the CPU Ratio. I did this (using 1.6 bios version) and the system would not boot. After some struggling I was able to get into the BIOS again. I messed with different Ratio's to lower the operating speed of the cpu. It turned out that anything I tried with the 133 FSB setting would hang the system. I looked in MSI knowledge base, it has my exact same problems listed and the recommended fix is to "upgrade" to BIOS 1.5. So, for kicks I downgraded my 1.6 BIOS to the 1.5 version. I still had the same exact problems, however, one different. When the FSB was set at 133 and Ratio at 15, for some reason the system booted but set the FSB back to 100 and the Ratio to 20 (which is not even an option in the bios). I found this information using Wincpuid once the system was booted. I really would like to get this cpu working as it should and be found as an Athlon 2400+ running at 2.0ghz. Anyone have any ideas?
Could the power supply be at fault at all? It's just a generic PS that came with the case. Maybe the 2400+ needs more power to run at the higher clock speed and FSB? My other thought is the memory. Something related to the ram maybe? TIA.
    Justin

Ok the trick is to do *not* as the MSI cpu support webpage says. The support webpage says to set the CPU FSB to 133 and the CPU Ratio (multiplier) to 15. My system would not boot this way. I set the FSB to 133 and the ratio to "H/W" and it works perfectly fine.

  • MacBook CPU speed setting

I've been looking around on the web without much luck on how to configure my CPU speed on my macbook. I just switched from my old iBook G4, where I remember I could just go to the Energy Saver preference pane - go to options - and under all the checklist options (restart automatically...show battery status...etc etc) there's the option to set the speed to reduced, highest or automatic.
Now I go to the preference pane on my MacBook and I see that there's no option for this....?!
Where can I find this option?? There must be a way to lower the cpu speed especially with the core 2 duo chips!

It's set - no more adjustments.
    Scott
Over at the macosxhints forums someone said that changing the "optimization" drop down menu in the energy saver preference pane could be used to lower and max the cpu speed...that is, setting it to "normal", "better energy savings", and "better performance".
Is this true? Does anyone know if the actual cpu speed will change with the changing of this option?

  • How to get statistics (or precise data) about cpu speed and RAM

My problem is I want to determine the CPU speed of the computer is running the applet.
I know there's no way to obtain in a simply (and standar) way this property, so I've thinked about generating statistic methods for do it (something like executing a loop a defined iterations)
My doubt is what to put inside this loop, beacuse I would like to know just not CPU speed (or satistics about it), I need also free RAM statistics, so I've thinked there would be some specific java instructions to give a relationship of these data I need.
My question is if someone has done (or has thinked about) this kind of classes before me, and can tell me what is the best way to make the same.

  • Macbook air cpu charge is lower than 5%, but temperature is more than 90°C and fans don't speed up ! is it normal ?

    hello,
my macbook air cpu charge is lower than 5% (i.e. no apps are loaded only the finder, istat menu give me a cpu charge near 3%),
but temperature is more than 90°C and fans don't speed up !
    is it normal ?

    It is degrees C.
when the computer has a normal behavour with no CPU charge, its temp is about 35°C
but sometimes temp increase to 90°C and more.
because i don't heard the fan speed increasing (I almost don't heard the fan so i think they should stay at 2000rpm), I'm afraid to burn the CPU and shut down the mac
i didn't let him get hotter.

  • Newbie: My CPU speed is wrong!

I have a KT3 Ulta-ARU motherboard and an Athlon 1400Mhz CPU with a 266MHz FSB.  My diagnostics tools tell me my CPU is running at 1GHz though.
I can't get FuzzyLogic or the other MSI tools to work on my computer any more as they inevitably seem to just stop working and I can't uninstall them either.  So how in the BIOS do I fix my CPU speed?
I know this is a dumb question but I just can't figure it out after reading the manual or searching around the site.
    Thanks!

No I typically have trouble with the MSI tools.  I do a clean install of WinXP Pro, and install the tools from the CD.  Then I run LiveUpdate, and invariably one tool conflicts with another, or it tries to update one but can't uninstall it, or both.  So I've just given up.  My computer is due for an OS reinstall soon anyways.
I just got an MSI GeForce4 TI 4200 video card a week ago too so I would like to have the MSI tools working!

  • IMPORTANT!!!! The CPU speed is wrong

Hi, yesterday I rebooted my PC, but when I rebooted, in the first page where says your HDD's and all those things I read my CPU speed was AMD Athlon 1100 but I have an Athlon XP 2500, can somebody tell me what can I do to fix my problem?

Always keep an old PS2 mouse and keyboard sitting on the shelf in your closet... that way when all the fancy USB and/or wireless stuff goes bonkers, or their batteries die... then you have something to fall back on.

  • Wrong cpu speed

    I bought a 12" 1ghz Powerbook in 2003.
It worked fine until a couple of weeks ago when I had to change the HD. Since then, my cpu speed is no longer 1 ghz but 867 nhz, which is as of the previous model...
    any help !?
    Jules

ok so the pram didn't work, and I don't know how to access to the open firmware.
But is there a way to know for sure at which speed my cpu is set, because if it's just an info issue, I don't realy care about it.
and also I forgot, my fan is always on when I start my computer, and never stops since the hd replacement..

  • KT3-Ultra2 and 2400+ CPU

    I have a new system I built...
    MSI KT3 Ultra2 (MS-6380E) Ver. 1.0 MB
    AMD 2400+ CPU
Dr. Thermal Extreme SE CPU Cooler w/Artic Silver III
    Antec TruePower 550W PS
512 Meg PC2700 DDR Crucial Ram (Certified to work with Board)
    Seagate 10 gig HD
    Cardtek GeForce 3 Ti-500
    NetGear 100 meg NIC
    Sound Blaster Audigy2 Platinum
System booted and loaded XP fine.  The original bios was 5.5.  The cpu comes up as 1800+ by default.  According to MSI web site, to adjust for 2400+ cpu, you set the FSB to 133 and the multiplier to 15.  If you do this, the system locks.  If you change to FSB133 and keep default multiplier it locks after reboot (will not post).  Is there a physical jumper on the board I need to adjust/set?
If I reset back to defaults the system runs perfectly fine...

  • Detect cpu speed and memory

hi! i'm a newbie in java.
i have a web project requirement that needs to detect the client's cpu speed and memory and diplays it on the webpage. could i do this in java applet? can someone direct to the right resources on how i would be able to do this.
    thank u so much!

Aside from the System.capabilities class, I don't believe you
    can get
anything more without using one of the wrappers like

  • 7125v1.0 Neo4 Ultra - CPU Frequency wrong

    Config: MB:7125v1.D0, CPU: 3700+, Ram: 2*1GHz Gskill, VGA: Sparkle 6600GT PSU: Corsair VX550W, 2 IDE & 2 Sata Disks (Non-Raid)
    Hello,
MB is non-overclocked (never), but Cell Menu in Bios (v1.D0 - last disponible on MSI Site) shows:
Current CPU Clock 2211MHZ , Current DDR Clock.
I don't know when and how the frequency changed... at the time I flashed the Bios, frequency was 200MHz.
Actually, I can change, after windows has started, the frequency from 201 to 200MHz using the Nvidia Control Panel.
Even if Board is working with 201MHz clock, isn't it better - or am i wrong? - that frequency is not higher than 200MHz?
Is there any way to change this in the Bios, so the frequency is what it has to be?
In Cell Menu, these 2 lines (the first 2 of the screen) are grayed and said non-changeable.
I tried a Cmos-Clear, as indicated otherwhere (power cord unplugged, battery removed, waiting at least 15Mn, etc..) but nothing changed. I also tried to reinstall XP entirely on another clean disk, but CPU Frequency remains at 201MHz.
Is it possible to reflash the 1.D0 Bios on the same Bios and will it change the frequency?
What happens if I reflash the same Bios on that which is in use?
Or is it better consider reflashing an older Bios, and after that reflash the newer?
    Tia for any help
    Regards

Well what's the matter 200.5 or 200.0, you can try to disable CPU Spread spectrum it can affect 0.5 in the freq.
    Hello,
I apologize not to have answered before, but I was traveling for work the last 3 weeks.
I asked about the HTT frequence because it is generally said not to change the Ram Speed over the previous speed.
Even when I let 201Mhz for CPU Clock, i have some bugs (unexpected reboot after various time, unexpected PC freezing) - not always but from time to time. When I change the CPU Speed to 200 MHz with NVidia controlpanel, just after windows has started, these bugs never ! appear.
Changing the CPU Spread Spectrum option in the cellmenu has no effect.
So I'm wondering that i have this default which exists also when i make a new XP Install on a new disk: FSb Clock 201MHz CPU Clock 2211MHz instead of 200/2200. Ok with the multiplier factor it is right but The RAM Frequence is also 402 MHz.

  • 10.4.10 boosts CPU speed by 130mhz !?!

    Hi,
After installing the Mac OS 10.4.10 update my iBook 1.2ghz now thinks it is... 1.33ghz!
    Am I the only one?
In the many years of being a Mac user I have never had this happen before, and it 'appears' that know one else has reported it happening either.
    Not that I am complaining!
But really, I have checked and double checked, and the fact remains that 'About This Mac' and System Profiler shows my CPU speed as 1.33ghz now - has the update over-clocked my machine?
When I get a moment I will run a benchmark to see if that is the case, or whether the update is (more likely) just reporting the wrong speed...
Let me know if you have experienced this

      Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Ok, I've just run XBench, compared the results with other users iBooks, and the conclusion is...
    About This Mac is lying.
I had, and still have, a measly 1.2ghz
I feel like one of those kids who buy's a old 3-Series BMW and then sticks a M3 badge on it to look cool.
Anyway, I would still like to know if anyone else has had this weirdness happen after the update.

  • Forced to "upgrade" for more $$$ and now my FIOS speed is crippled.

On Wednesday of this week, I was happily using my FIOS 20/5 service with no problems when I realized my annual agreement for the TV/Internet package was about to expire so I proactively called Verizon to renew for another year of service.
The agent told me that Verizon no longer offers 20/5 and 25/25 is now the least expensive option that I can choose, resulting in approximately $15 extra per month on my bill. I implored the agent to continue my service at 20/5 for the same price but she was firm with the fact that it was no longer available. Needless to say I was frustrated with the result but realized that I was not going to get anywhere so I accepted the new, more expensive package.
I was told the upgrade would happen sometime over night and that the new package would be in place by Thursday morning. On a hunch (and also because previous package upgrades have been bumpy) I went to www.speedtest.net and got a result of 19.58 down and 4.40 up - exactly what I would expect with a little bit of overhead for network operations.
So Thursday morning arrives and I decide to check the speed to verify everything is in place and the first result comes back as 9.95 down and 12.25 up. Hmmm, obviously something changed because the upload speed is now more than double what I had with the previous package but curiously, the download speed is only HALF of what I got with the previous package (the one that's no longer offered). So I call Verizon to begin the quest for an answer.
First level tech support is of no help. He goes through the standard list rebooting of the router (no change) rebooting the ONT (no change) sending new signals to the router and ONT (no change) and finally escalates the ticket to the next level and tells me that I'll get a call back within 8 hours. Frustrated with this outcome, I try a different avenue for support (the original sales agent) and end up back with first line tech support who informs me that the first tech support guys was wrong and I will get a call back within 24 hours!!! Great, just great.
Finally get a call back today from 2nd level support and after punching keys for a few minutes, this guy insists everything is correct on the Verizon systems and there must be something wrong with my equipment. I explain to him that I was having no problem getting 20/5 service and NOTHING has changed on my end so how could my equipment be responsible for the speed loss? His only response it to reiterate that everything is correct on his side and all he can do is send out a tech to my house to run test and prove to me that I'm getting the speeds that have been allocated.
Great, now I've wasted all this time AND I have to waste MORE time on Monday waiting for a tech to arrive (who will almost certainly arrive in the last 30 minutes of the 4-hour window). This is almost the exact same scenario that happened the last time I was upgraded to a faster package. I don't recall exactly how it got resolved but I do remember a tech coming to my house only to find that (shockingly) my router wasn't receiving the speeds is was supposed to be getting and that, indeed, the problem was somewhere in the spaghetti and duct-tape of the Verizon FIOS network.
Multiple tests throughout this period (both at speedtest.net and speedtest.verizon.net) continue to average around 8 down and 11 up on my connection.
Anyway - I'm sure this will drag on and on and I will continue to be a dissatisfied Verizon customer. I just wonder why Verizon can't get it right when it comes to customer service. More over, I wonder why I keep giving them my money.
    Solved!

  • TS1387 I am importing CD's into iTunes.  There were 3 different selection for the CD I put in and I accidently selected the wrong one, Now how do I change it?  It seems to only recognize it as the wrong CD now.

I am importing CD's into iTunes.  The CD that I put in had the option of 3 different CD's and I accidentally chose the wrong CD name.  Is there a way to change it?  It now seems to only recognize that CD as the wrong one.

    Trevor,
When you say your superdrive rips, the import speeds are typically around 20x, what encoding method and bit rate are you using ?
I imported another CD and watched for what import speed numbers were displayed. Routinely, they hovered around 8x and sometimes up to 12 or 13x, but never higher. I was told by someone at our local user's group meeting that ripping at AAC 192kbps was a double-pass, I think that was the words they used, and therefore slower. ( Many members thought 7 minutes to rip was typical ) I'm not so sure if that means the drive will only spin at half it's rated max speed ? Anyway, I walked over to my son's PC with the CD and ripped it at AAC 192kbps to his iTunes library. The numbers I saw were from 18x to frequently 23, 24 and sometimes briefly to about 26x. His drive has a max of 40x. By my reasoning, anything that would cause iTunes to rip this CD at a slower speed, whether due to the encoding rate or the CD's surface condition, should affect both computers equally, yes ? Yet the drive on the PC performed on average at twice the rate of the iMac. I think it's safe to say the rip speed is comfortably within the operating margins of both drives.
I'm not yet fully convinced this is normal for an iMac. My CD are in excellent shape. I'm the only one who uses them and I handle them with about as much care as the old audiofiles used to when they handled their vinyl LPs ( well, at least not as far as wearing cotton gloves and sweeping the dust off ). Most of them have absolutely no visible scratches or oily finger prints on their surfaces. I might experiment and see what rates I get if I use MP3 or a lower bit rate for AAC.
