    After many attempts to get games to run, upgrading bios, drivers ete.... I was able to get MSI Tech Support on the phone.  We tried changing bus speeds, swapping memory, with AGP card w/o etc....
    Nothing seemed to work.  The tech guy basically told me to RMA the board back with the reseller.
    After doing that, I looked more into what else could cause the problem.  I had already purchased new memory because I was using Kingston 512 2700 DDR, and purchased the Mushkin 2 X 256 PC 3200.  More and more research pointed to the power supply.  So I may have jumped the gun by sending the board back without researching fully what could cause the problem.  I guess you live and learn.   ?(

  • K7N2G-ILSR - Undocumented Jumper - What the heck is this?

    Hi all;
    First time post here and, naturally, I have a problem.  But then, everybody here seems to have some sort of problem or they wouldn't be here to begin with . . . RIGHT?
    Anyway, I picked up this nice looking K7N2G-ILSR board over on sleazeBay a few months back and am just now getting around to trying to get it to run.
    The board makes it through POST just fine and actually gets all the way through the BIOS setup (quite unlike a few other MSI boards that I've seen before) with the only hang-up being the typical initial "No FastTrak controller installed" message.
    With a clean (NTFS formatted and known "good") Western Digital 160GB HDD as the master (and only) drive on IDE1 and a (known "good") Pioneer DVD drive as the master (and only) drive, on IDE2, the board then comes back with the "No OS Found" message (. . . . duuuhhhhh . . . . ) and requests an OS Set-Up disk to be inserted.
    Being an agreeable sort of guy, I immediately plop in my "genuine" WIN_XP_Pro_SP2 CD and the board starts to load Windows. Windows makes it all the way through the "Checking Computer Configuration" phase and "almost" makes it through the "Loading Temporary Files" phase of the initial set-up process. BUT . . . at some point during the "Loading Temporary Files" phase, it fails. I've gone through this eight dozen times over the past week and the 'puter has never made it past this point.
    Sometimes the board will just spontaneously reboot, either just shutting down or taking me back to the original BIOS screen, and sometimes it comes up with a BSOD and a stop error, which is different everytime. I've seen 0x08, 0x0A, 0x08e, "IRQL1_not_less_than_or_equal_to", and probably a few more that I didn't even bother to write down. Most times, it's just a BSOD with no "message" at all.
    I've been through this entire process with four different AMD Athlon XP CPU's (two 2,500+ Bartons, a 2,600+ Tbred, and a 2,800+ Barton), with five different sticks of 512MB ram (both PC2700 and PC3200 and all from different manufacturers) installed in each of the three DIMM slots on the board. 
    Never having taken a "Statistics and Probabilities" course, I can't even begin to tell you how many possible combinations of these elements that I've tried, but I do know, it's been a bunch. All to no avail.
    Anyway, I was about ready to throw the whole thing in the dumpster (or at least put it back up for sale on sleazeBay) when it occurred to me that "maybe you should read the manual".
    I had already downloaded the manual from MSI's site, but had never actually taken the time to study it. Who needs a durned manual anyway . . . RIGHT . . . ?
    So . . . long story short . . . I actually studied the darn thing. I not only studied the manual, I also studied "the board" at the same time and found what appears to be an undocumented jumper which is the sole reason for this entire post.
    On this particular board, right behind the "JFP2" header and directly underneath the "JDLED" header is a two-pin jumper labeled "JGS1" (yellow arrow in the pic below) that I can find no documentation on nor even any reference to.
    Anybody have a clue as to what this jumper does or why I can't get this board to make it beyond the "Loading Temporary Files" phase of the Windows installation?

    OS:    Windows XPPro/SP2
    With the clean/formatted WD1600 drive the XPPro/SP2 install CD starts to load Windows, makes it through the "Checking Computer Configuration" phase and starts the "Loading Temporary Files" phase. It always fails, at some "varying" point during the "Loading Temporary Files" phase, either with a spontaneous reboot or with a BSOD. The BSOD message is usually 0x07 or 0x08, but I've also seen 0x0A, 0x07e, 0x08e, "pci_sys", and "IRQL1_not_less_than_or_equal".
    I don't know anything about Linux or the Linux Live CD, but I do have a recent copy of the UBCD4Win (Ultimate Boot CD for Windows) and with the clean WD1600 HDD in place, the UBCD disk will boot (very slowly) and run. But when I attempt to install the OS from it, it fails in the same manner as the original XPPro/SP2 install CD.
    With the 80GB WD800 drive (pre-loaded w/ a cloned good copy of XPPro/SP2), the initial WindowsXP splash screen comes up but then fails to load with one of the same BSOD messages as the clean/formatted drive. The UBCD4Win disk fails to even load on this drive ending with the same BSOD screens.
    I've tried the "fail-safe" 100MHz FSB setting, disabled all cacheing and shadowing in the BIOS, cleared the CMOS dozens of times, changed the battery, re-flashed the BIOS with the latest BIOS download from the MSI site (even though it was the same BIOS version that was already installed), and tried just about everything else that I can think of.
    Even though I have no SATA/RAID drives installed, I did try the "Hit F6 key" option to install the SATA/RAID drivers and they seemed to install fine, but, of course, it made no difference.
    I do have the JDLED1 "D-Bracket" and it ends up with all four green LED's lit indicating that the OS should be booting and I do get a single short "beep" as the BIOS kicks-in.
    But . . . still nothing.   
    I really appreciate all of you guys here trying to help out. I've been putting systems together for twenty years and have never had one give me this much grief. I'm about at my wits-end with it.

  • USB 2.0 problem (K7N2G-ILSR and HP PSC 2210)

    I'm using a K7N2G-ILSR mainboard in combination with a HP PSC 2210 all-in-one printer. The printer sometimes stops printing and produces an error. The print can not be deleted and I have to reset the computer.
    I'm using the latest HP drivers for the printer, Windows XP Pro with all Windows Update fixes and the latest upgrades for teh mainboard (Live-Update).
    Is this a known error and is there a fix/workaround (can I set the USB in the BIOS to 1.1 only (instead of 1.1 and 2.0)??
    According to HP it is related to the chipset and the USB driver. Until now I have not find a document explaining the problem for this mainboard and a proper solution.
    Does anyone have an idea?

    Cables are cables still at this point in the game so it could be that you have a faulty cable but there are no special 2.0 cables to buy...
    Never been a big fan of the All-in-one printer/scanner/copiers, I've had nothing but problems most of the time when my clients buy them...but they still buy them...if you think about it they really only came out just over a year and a half ago so that technology isn't quite mature yet...
    I doubt that it has anything to do with your setup directly, it sounds like a driver issue and one that's clashing with another driver that's used for something else in your machine...no I don't know what cause I don't know what you are using in your system heheheh
    I had a client that bought one of the newer photo printers, why I don't know cause he doesn't even own a digital camera, but he just had to have one, but anyway, it would error out everytime he tried to print to it...I reloaded his system and systematically added in one component at a time...writing down everything I did...when I put in his ATI All-In-Wonder card and loaded the software for the TV part lo and behold when I printed I got the error again...couldn't fix it for my life either with all the newest drivers from ATI and HP...went backwards in time for older drivers to no avail...the guy stiffed me on the bill for over $1000.00 and I've not heard from him again so I can't tell you if he fixed it or not at this point...

  • SATA controller on K7N2G-ILSR "supports IDE"

    I have a K7N2G-ILSR with the onboard Promise 20376 Serial ATA controller, which supposedly supports using the IDE3 port as a separate IDE channel to connect hard drives and CDRoms and whatnot. I have not been able to simply get the SATA controller to work with IDE. I have tried connecting a hard drive and optical drives. With the single hard drive, instead of simply booting like it should, it tells me that no array is defined and asks me to create one. Since I have data on the hard drive already and don't want to risk erasing it by "creating an array", I didn't push my luck. With optical drives, it is the same story, except that of course I can't create an array with an optical drive, even if I try (nor does the setup utility let me). I am also thinking about purchasing a SATA adaptor for the hard drive, but am afraid that it is going to ask me to create an array again (again, fear of losing data). So, how do I get the IDE3 port to work as advertised? And how would I get the SATA working in a non-RAID configuration?

    This is from the website, I don't see that they say you can use the SATA as regular IDE drives...they are part of the raid controller period...the misconception comes by thinking it's used like we use a regular IDE but you have to create an array as I said in order to use them...you can select one of the raid drives to use as a boot drive via the BIOS but you have to enable the drive in the raid setup before it's accessible thus creating a seemingly IDE device...I don't have any SATA drives here atm so wasn't able to test this part of the MB yet...and I've beat my board into submission now and have to RMA it from doing so much testing with it...if I do get another one I'll see about getting a SATA drive and see what it does when I load the drivers for the raid in a non-raid setup and post my results...I agree that they don't explain it well either but I've never thought the manuals were written the best for most boards out there since English isn't their first language...something gets lost in the interpretation unfortunately heheheh The raid doesn't support opticals at all so that's not an option here...

  • K7N2G-ILSR: On-board video too unstable to use

    Putting together a new computer for my son.  Using K7N2G-ILSR and was really looking forward to the onboard video.  Using Athlon XP 2100 (from my prior machine -- 100 percent solid CPU) and initially bought Corsair 2700 256MB with the new board.  As an immediate downer, the board refused to work with the memory (nonstop beeping/D-LED stuff, etc.) at power up (tried all slots -- same result).  Observation: this compares very unfavorably with my highly-favorable experience with Soyo boards, by the way.  Swapped out that memory with Kingston 2700 256MB from my daughter's machine, which is running Soyo Dragon Lite.  
    Ok, so after some immediate (and unnecessary) memory hassle, got system to boot.  CPU is running fine and cool at 50 deg C.
    Next (BIG, BIG) problem: Onboard Video is WAY, WAY too unstable in Windows 2000 to be usable.  At the outset, the video is showing random horizontal streaks (of trash) across the screen.  The only time I've seen that before in my 15 years of PC use is in a Diamond video card a long time ago that was also defective.  However, I can live with streaks.  The problem is that the machine crashes every time, 100 percent of the time, within 15-90 seconds of booting into Windows 2000 (SP3).  (Of course, used latest video driver from a web site, different settings, different refresh rates, and all the other usual stuff, etc., etc., etc.)  By the way, I had the patience to try this with and without SP3, and tried a zillon different bios settings.  Nothing worked -- same immediate crash problem.  Also booted into safe mode and same deal -- but at least that confirms that the problem is probably underlying hardware-related problem, not software/driver problem.  (If it can't run under generic Windows VGA driver, then it probably can't run under anything  else.)
    Only solution is to swap in an existing AGP card.  That solves the problem 100 percent but I am not exactly happy camper since I paid for the on-board video (and for budget reasons the card that I am swapping in is not exactly cutting-edge.)  
    If anyone has a silver bullet fix for this, I would love to hear it.  Otherwise, I will assume that the onboard AGP is defective and/or poorly designed, whereupon I would have been better off not spending the extra money for it.  My best guess is that the memory and/or other video circuitry is defective.
    Otherwise, happy with the underlying performance of the motherboard itself but the video fiasco is a BIG letdown. :O

    SILVER BULLET FOUND!!! (and it was free)  BIG, BIG, BIG cigar to Bikeman for his above post, which focused my attention on the BIOS.  Had considered it at the outset, but figured there was no way I was going to need to flash a brand spanking new board.  But when you read the BIOS update notes, one of its fixes is with Kingston memory which is currently in the board.  Recall from above, however, that Kingston was a fallback as board complained bitterly about the Corsair memory that I bought with the board.  (My daugher's Dragon Lite is quite happy with either memory.)
    So here's the rundown.  Actually couldn't see what bios ver. I had at POST as text went by way too fast.  So install live update software which confirmed that I had older v. 1.2 bios.  (Interestingly, the live update itself was old enough that it itself had to self-update before I could use).  Flashed BIOS to 1.3 using the Windows version of update, which I will report worked real smooth.
    Rebooted and proceeded to install fresh nVidia driver from nVidia website.  However, I can tell you that the BIOS was definitely the problem because before I wouldn't have been able to easily get to the point of installing video driver without 5-10 crash/reboot cycles -- so the new-found stability made it very clear that the BIOS update was the "silver bullet" I was looking for.
    Postscript impressions:  (1) MSI boards are VERY finiky about memory (which is a problem that I have never had with Soyo boards), and (2) this is the 2nd MSI board I have bought and the 2nd one that has had severe bios issues.  The first board was a low-end A socket board with AMI bios that arrived faulty/trashed -- half way thru POST, bios would start spitting out garbage ASCII characters.  
    Again thanks again to Bikeman for saving me from spending any more money (on psu or other memory) and for letting my son's system now run 8X AGP.

  • Fan speed varies 0 - 42 000 !! on K7N2G-ILSR

    Hello people! :D
    I have MSI K7N2G-ILSR board. I use the on board cpu fan connector for my cpu fan.
    The problem is this: according to PC-Alert the fan speed varies very much: sometimes PC-Alert says the fan is spinning over 42 000 rpm/min REALLY! and sometimes it says 0 rpm/min (it is an enermax adjustable fan)!
    I didn't have this problem say 2 months ago, but now I have it all the time. I have to switch off the PC-Alert to use the PC. I have tried other surveillance programs too and they give the same result!
    I have the newest version of PC-Alert installed. Other details you can find in my signature below.

    The fan problem was a simple one: if fan rotates less then approx 2000 rpm/min mainboards bios can't detect the rotationspeed correctly!
    So I raised the rpms over 2000 & all is ok!

  • Need help with MSI K7N2G-ILSR

    This is probably a really easy problem to fix, but my internet time is limited since my old system is in pieces, and I have to do this from work.
    My new MSI K7N2G-ILSR, running with a Barton XP2800 and 2 DIMMs of Geil 512MB DDR PC3200 , doesn't seem to be happy with things. When I tried to turn things on, I got no video output, and there was a regular series of beeps.
    I believed this is just a memory issue, and I intended to look into it when I get home...however, it seems things are a little more complicated than I may have thought.
    After failing to get any results with the pc3200 512 dimms, I switched to my old 2700 256 meg DIMMS, which I knew worked fine. To my surprise, the system then worked...almost. It got to a certain point, and then gave the message "no drive is connected to fastrack", or something to that effect, and then froze.
    The system also worked with combinations of my old 256meg and one of the new 512s, but not with both 512s at once. The 256s, in combination, powered up every time; however, they didn't allow me to install anything. The combination of 2 256s and 1 512 worked most of the time, but would occasionally fail to detect the the RAM - resulting in the same steady beeping as earlier.
    For the sake of curiousity, I removed the IDE cable from the DVD drive. To my surprise, Windows (the drive was not formatted) tried to load...which would not happen when the DVD was connected. I then reconected the DVD, and removed the IDE connection from the hard drive. XP tried to install, and then crashed...in fact, the whole system powered down. And now will not restart again. It's dead, and I can't seem to get a single response from it.
    This made me wonder if the problem lies with my PSU. Does this sound like something which would happen if the PSU was playing up? I have a 450 watt unit, which I thought would be ok. But the only thing I can think is that the PSU doesn't have enough power to deal with the demands of my new system. I imagine the 3200 DIMMs require a lot more power than the 2700, which might explain why the system can't power up using two of them - the PSU can't handle it.
    Any ideas at all? I'm getting more than a little frustrated now. Any advice gratefully received...

    Remove all devices from your setup except the CD-ROM (or DVD device) and the hard drive, and connect each to the end connector on different IDE cable, making sure each device is set to "cable select" (preferred) or "master" (2nd choice). Plug the CD-ROM (or DVD device) into IDE2; Plug the hard drive cable into IDE1. For now, don't plug anything into IDE3.
    Your power supply is probably adequate, but beware. While many PS'es are "high wattage," many don't deliver enough power to the critical 3.3V bus. Check to make sure that your PS is rated for AT LEAST 28 Amps for the 3.3VDC supply. If not, get a new ANTEC TRUE PS that is. Don't skimp on power; it's like you skimping on food, then running a marathon.
    Only install (1) 256MB module in one of the two slots that are together. I recommend the slot closest to the CPU.
    If you are running a video card, remove it and use the IGP for now.
    Now, power up, and when you get the logo screen, go into your BIOS by pressing the delete key. If your screen is blank and just sits there, then power off, unplug the computer, and set the "clear CMOS jumper." Wait 30 seconds, replace jumper, plug in power cord, and restart computer.
    When you get to BIOS, make certain that it sees both drives in the first BIOS screen. Set your time and day (if you like) and then go to the second screen and set your CD-ROM/DVD as the first boot device, set the HD0 as the second (it should already be that way), hit and save and exit, but don't set anything else. Your computer should now boot from the CD-ROM and try to install Windows (I assume XP.) When it asks for you to press F6 to load RAID drivers, don't.
    Choose to format your drive using NTFS, don't choose the quick format.
    Report back!

  • K7N2G-ILSR - my experience

    Well, after reading through this board's multitude of problems, I think I encountered them all when I went to install my mobo.
    Here's my setup & experience:
    AMD XP 2600+
    MSI K7N2G-ILSR
    2x 512MB DDR 400MHZ Infineon 64x64 modules
    2x Maxtor 60Y080 80GB SATA 7200RPM drives
    Creative SB Audigy Platinum EX
    Intel Gigabit Ethernet Card
    Logitech USB iTouch Keyboard
    Logitech USB Dual Optical 4 Button Mouse
    LG DVD ROM
    LG DVD-RW/+RW/RAM Drive
    420 watt X-PIDER Aspireusa Black case w/purdy lights & clear side
    and a whooole lota patience.
    First of all, let me explain, I used to do tech support, building computers, troubleshooting bad installs, fixing problems etc, my entire job was finding problems with systems and fixing them for a retail & corporate reseller.
    Here's what I did, feel free to drop in suggestions of what I should/shouldn't have done, or what I can still try.
    1) I plugged everything in and turned it on.  (yeah yeah, I realized the error in my ways real quick)
       Result: Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep... (all long beeps, which kept going on for ages, I lost count at 20+ and realized it wasnt an error code)
    2) I unplugged everything one part at a time and restarting until I had 3 things plugged into the mobo, the Mobo, the CPU, and the 2 sticks of RAM, so it was one of those 3 things that were causing the problems.
      Result was still the same beeping fyi.
    3) I tried every option for the memory, alternated each stick in DIMM slot 1,2 and 3.  Tried combinations of each module in different slots, until I had exhausted them all.
      Result: same beeping.
    4) Tried a 256MB Samsung module in slot 1
      Result: POST!! YAY!
    5) Went into BIOS to see what the settings were, made sure everything was ok and kept going with the install and the Samsung module - I restarted & went to the SATA RAID utility next. - CTRL-F took me to that screen.
      Result: Froze on RAID Controller screen.
    6) Or so I thought, after an hour or so, trying different things, replaced the USB Logitech Keyboard with a MS Natural PS2 keyboard was the next option.
      Result: POST & RAID Setup works now!
    7) Followed manual directions at this point (yeah, I wasn't taking any chances after all this crap) Went to verify the drives.
      Result: Frozen drive verifaction at 72%
    8) Retried verification.
      Result: Worked.
    9) Formatted Drive.
      Result: Worked.
    10) Installed OS after loading Raid Drivers.
      Result: BSOD half way through Win XP setup.  Rebooted to find the Raid Array is offline.
    11) Deleted the Raid Array, started from Scratch.
      Result: got allll the way to having the OS installed & Ready to go (I almost cried at this point, and hugged my roomie)
    12) Installed Service Pack 1.
      Result: Worked.
    13) Installed Motherboard Drivers (from CD - yeah yeah, I should have downloaded the latest)
      Result: BSOD.  AGAIN.  Restarted to find the Array Offline yet again.
    14) Restarted after deleting the Array and setting it up again, thinking I'd have to install the OS all over, and it booted straight into the OS with no issues.  ???
    15) Left it running for 1/2 hour to see if it was an intermittent problem.
      Result: While I was changing a T-Shirt (due to excessive sweat buildup from the stress) it spontaneously BSOD'd and reset - Array was offline again etc.
    16) Reset Array & left for the weekend.
      Result - Ran aaallll weekend no problem.
    17) RMA'd my memory, getting replacements today, and so far the system still works...
    so... ?   What should I do?  I'm scared it'll spontaneously BSOD again and leave me PCless.
    Comments/Sympathies/Suggestions welcome.  I need consoling *sniff*

    18) Replaced the memory - memory worked.
    19) Wiped the drive clean - resinstalled the OS.
    20) Upgraded the BIOS on the Motherboard & RAID Controller
    21) Updated the Drivers for the Motherboard, Video Card and Sound Card - unplugged all other peripherals.
    22) BSOD On installing the Motherboard drivers.
    23) BSOD On running any 3d/Sound programs
    24) Live updated kept BSODing every time I tried to load it.
    25) Wiped the drive clean again, reseated all cards, tried one memory stick.
    26) Reinstalled the OS - Froze half-way through intall - restarted, reformatted, reinstalled.
    27) Immediately after install worked, I updated the Drivers for the motherboard - BSOD again.
    28) Installed all other required drivers (LiveUpdate for motherboard - Video, Sound) I thought maybe it was a problem with an outdated peripheral driver.
    29) played with all BIOS settings again with the RAM Latency, clock speeds etc.  BSOD every 4-6 minutes no matter what I tried.
    30) Tried pulling out the sound card and using the onboard, re-enabling it in the bios.  Same problem - BSOD every few minutes.
    31) Tried switching up the 9800Pro with an older Nvidia GeForce 3 - Same problem - BSOD every few minutes, the only things I have not replaced or unplugged are the Motherboard & CPU.
    32) Lost patience with said motherboard - pulled it out of the case & packaged it up to send back.

  • Sound configuration K7N2G-ILSR & 4.1 Klipsh

    I am trying to hook up my Klipsch 4.1 speakers to the onboard audio of my new K7N2G-ILSR motherboard. I have tried every combination possible to get sound the front and rear speakers, including the subwoofer. I can get them to work, but not all together like they should. I have tried connecting to the digital SPIDIF connector, as well as the analog connectors on the mobo itself. I have successfully downloaded the latest drivers for the Nvidia Nforce Control Panel. I even downloaded the latest drivers from Realtek and tried them... no worky.
    The manual shows the hookup with three connectors: The front speakers (one jack), the back speakers (one jack), and the subwoofer (one jack). The problem is that the Klipsch 4.1 setup only uses one connection for both the front and rear speakers, and one connection for the subwoofer. It appears that this configuration is not supported by the Nforce drivers.
    Should I give up and go to a digital sound card or is there a way around this? Your help is massively appreciated!

    Here is how I did it, let me explain what I learned first. Though the Klipsch speakers are some bad a$$ sound, they are not digital, they are all analog. So, with this in mind, a digital connection is not possible. Here is what you get with the k7n2g-ilsr:
    The motherboard back panel has three mini-jacks for sound;
    1 microphone (analog)
    1 line in (analog)
    1 line out (analog)
    The SPIDIF bracket; or S-bracket (as named by MSI), has two mini-jacks:
    1 LR/RR (left rear & right rear) (analog)
    1 CEN/SUB (center & subwoofer) (analog)
    It also has these outputs:
    1 coaxial out (digital)
    1 SPIDIF jack out (digital optical)
    So, because the Klipsh speakers use two jacks; one for the front pair and one for the rear pair, you can't plug the front pair in to the SPIDIF bracket, because the only other analog jack - supports the center and subwoofer channel for 5.1 surround only. The only other way to cover the front channel is to do what Mooncrater said, plug it in to the line out on the motherboard back panel.
    The thing that was stumping me on this whole setup is that in the Nvidia Nforce Control Panel, when you configure an analog surround group, the "test tone" does not make a sound for the subwoofer, which made me think it was not receiving a signal. This apparently is a flaw in this configuration program. However, after you successfully get the "test tones" to the four speakers, exit and try the system out anyway. It should work.  If i had known this, I could have saved hours of frustration.
    I disagree with Mooncrater on this part though (nothing personal man, I think you are great); I could not get this config to work with the "digital output" and "Dolby digital encoding" boxes checked. If you think about it, these are analog  speakers, it wouldn't do you any good to check them anyway.
    With all of this figured out (the hard way), I still think I am having problems, but not with the configuration. Sometimes my right rear channel works, sometimes it doesn't. I have tried switching cables and speakers, but the problem lingers. This one I may have to take up with Klipsh.

  • K7N2G-ILSR (MS6570G) Promise RAID Driver trouble with 1TB SATA-II HDD XP SP2

    Hi, I'm having trouble getting XP to recognise my new HDD.
    I am using a MSI K7N2G-ILSR. I already have a 40GB IDE drive I use for the OS and apps, and an 80GB drive I use for storage. I recently bought a new 1TB Samsung SATA-II drive to increase the storage.
    To begin with I simply plugged it in (port on the mobo marked SER1) and hoped XP would auto detect it. No such luck, so I used a USB to SATA convertor to connect the drive, format it, and check it worked properly. All OK, but still no result from windows when I go to the disk management settings.
    So I got out the mobo manual and followed the instructions for installing the Promise 376 SATA RAID drivers. I setup the array in fastbuild (auto setup to a single stripe 1+0 array) and it shows the drive as present and functioning. I put in the XP CD and F6'd the SCSI drivers on as directed by various google searches. That went fine but there is still no detection in XP.
    The drive came with jumper pins but no jumpers. I am slightly confused as I have read the jumpers can be used to force 150 speed from the drive, but also that SATA-II is 100% backwards compatible and doesn't need jumpers whether it's host is SATA or SATA-II.
    I have read through various threads in this forum and have not been able to find a solution. The drive works fine, the RAID bios seems to work fine, but I can't achieve a detection by XP (with SP2).
    Hope somebody can help me master this! If I've forgotten any details just ask.

    No, just run it 1st. Its self extract archive which will expand the drivers to desired location.
