K7n2g-lisr and front usb problem

Got a strange one here, I have a multi slot card reader plugged into front usb header and the problem is after
each and every reboot i have to unplug and replug the connection to the header so that my card reader works? Now that may not sound like a huge problem but i would like to be able to keep the case on! and not a big fan of plugging things in and out of a running motherboard! Also yes the one pin wire was cut, that is how i got it work in the first place. Any ideas?
Thanks Ron

I think Rede2go is aware of that, osnavi. I assume it´s unplugging and replugging the usb cable from and to the JUSB2 header on the mobo that is the cause of frustration here. I have found USB2 equipment to cause a majority of all the problems with socket A motherboards. It should be pointed out, though, that NF2 based mobos are relatively trouble free in this aspect, compared to VIA based mobos. Never the less all kind of strange things happen with USB2 equipment on these mobos to. On my ABIT based system I lose the multi card reader every now and then. It happens rarely, but when it happens, nothing else helps than rebooting the system. I think we have to accept that this is not a USB2 fault, it´s a feature

From what I can make out, it\'s basic function is to help prevent your machine from interfering with other electronic devices (such as TVs, Radios etc.)
    Hope this helps!

    Thanks for the link.
It does say in there that it does tend to mess up the clock. Also why doesn't the VIA boards have this option?

  • Front USB problem

    Hi everyone,
I have an Aspire Dreamer II case and connected everything correctly according to the manual from MSI.  Everytime I connect a USB device to the front ports, my computer freezes.  It unfreezes once I disconnected the device.  The USB ports on the back and on the D-Socket works fine.  I have read about others who have similar problems, but my case isn't mention in those postings.  Any suggestions for my situation?
Another minor problem is the HDD LED on the front of my case.  It doesn't seem to be on even though I connected that wire properly to the board.  I have a Seagate SATA drive as my C: and another Seagate ATA-100 drive as my F:.  Does the LED suppose to blink when there is activity on any of the drives?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

I've solved both problems.  For the Front USB to work, I had to pull out the 10-pin connector from the front usb cable.  I was comparing the cables connecting to the front usb and the cables connecting to the d-bracket.  The cable for the d-bracket didn't have any connections for pin-10 on the board.
For the HDD LED, I had the wires on reverse to the board, lol.  Thanks for the reply.

  • Chieftec case and front usb

Hello and happy new year to all. I have a problem just got a cheiftec ultra dragon case and i need to know what wire to remove so front usb will work. Thanks.

Are these separate wires that connect individually to the header pins or are do these wires go to a connector block and the block attaches to the MOBO USB header, JUSB2? Anyway, there should be no wire going to the #10 pin on the header. Below is a quote from a response I gave in another post:

    USB connector block
    1 3 5 7 9(filled/key)
    2 4 6 8 10(this wire, #10, not needed)
If you find a wire leading to the #10 spot on the block, remove that wire. My block has tabs so that you can pull the wire out, or you could snip/cut the wire leading to that position--if you cut the wire, be careful to cut the correct one and cut it in such a way that it may be repaired if you make a mistake.  Make sure you wrap the wire, the exposed end/s, you remove/cut with electrical tape so as not to accidentally cause a short. I actually folded the wire back and wrapped it.

This seems to be a common issue involving many different case manufacturers. I don't know how it applies to other MOBO manufacturers, but in these forums it is not limited to a specific MSI model or supported chipset(Intel or AMD).

  • Neo-FIS2R Front USB Problem! Please Help!

I have a Neo-FIS2R and a Chieftec/Chenming style case with 2 front USB 2 ports, and one firewire. I have the firewire working fine, and I have hooked up the USB 2 correctly. But it still doesn't work right. I left off pin # 10 that is an extra ground. I can plug in my usb mouse to the front usb and it starts working immediately. I can use either of the ports. But if i change it too many times, it doesn't come on via the front usb anymore, I have to go to the back usb. Now that proves the USB on the front works, but when I try to plug in my  usb memory stick or my memory card reader via the front usb, they never work, the lights on them come on, but then go off.  But they work fine on the back. Please help.

    Dear Bret
    1) What will enabling Legacy Support do? What is it? (sorry i know a n00b question but please answer)
    2) With reference to my original post at the beginning of this threat regarding BlueSoleil - yes its always been like that.  I didnt notice it was seriously wrong until I tested it on my brothers laptop and realised what it REALLY should run like!
    3) Yes the mass storage device was plugged in (i was trying to up the need-for-usb-power in the hope that it would show that when many things are plugged in, the power may be the problem.  But i take it that it wasnt eh?
    4) All the USB Hub's Power Management Properties have under the power management tab check "allow to turn off" clicked already on all of them.  How will your advice in your last post help now.
    5) I should have mentioned this earlier, but regarding my USB Dongle (which as you will know this whole problem is about) sometimes when i stick it into the USB port i get a 'USB Device Not Recognised' Error from windows, however if i take it out and put it in it seems to recognise fine

  • Macbook Pro and Thunderbolt USB problem

I have read a few threads regarding problems with the Thunderbolt displays and Macbook Airs. None of the suggestions in there work for me including doing an SMC Reset.
Here is my problem. I have a brand new Macbook Pro 17", 2.5Ghz Core i7,  8gb ram, 750Gb HD etc., new Thunderbolt display. Running OS X Lion 10.7.3.
In the back of my display I have plugged in a USB mouse from Logitech, an Apple full size keyboard and my wired ethernet connection. The monitor and peripherals stay at work and I take the Macbook Pro home every night. If I do not follow a certain sequence every morning, my computer freezes. I put the power connector in first, open the lid, wait for the screen on the laptop to show the login prompt, login and then and only then can I plug in my Thunderbolt connector. Once I do this, my second screen lights up and my mouse, keyboard and ethernet connection works. But if I plug in the Thunderbolt first before power up or if I plug it in before logging in, then I have a high probabilty that the USB hub on the back of the monitor will stop working altogether. Then I have to move my mouse and keyboard over to the laptop and everything works great (my ethernet keeps working fine though). My mouse scroll for whatever reason goes into high gear and starts scrolling much faster and I have to slow it down.
Now, this works 90% of the time. But there are days, like today, where this process does not work. And when it doesn't, either I have to move the USB devices over or like today, the machine freezes and no longer responds to any input. It appears to still be working as the screen updates but I can never regain control of it via any keyboard or mouse.
My co-worker has the exact same setup and exact same problem. We also have 10 Thunderbolt displays here (all new) and same problem with ANY I choose. So this is not a hardware issue. Something is wrong with the driver code for some device. And my co-worker has an Apple mouse so that's not the issue either. If this can help Apple with debugging, here is another interesting tid bit. 3 weeks ago, I had a non Thunderbolt display. And for 6 months with an older laptop, I had issues with it's USB hub. Same kind of problem. Some days, the USB hub in the monitor would work and others it would go dead until a reboot was performed.
I think a driver needs some fixing somewhere.
    Thanks,
    EJK

For the past 3 days I have had no issues after trying something different. After reading btully's post, what I decided to do is power off the Thunderbolt display every morning before I plug my laptop in and so far this seems to work. 3 days is not a data point but perhaps if others try too for a bit, we can see if this solves the issue for some of us. I will keep you all posted and see if this continues to work.
One thing to note as well, is that if I power off the Thunderbolt display while logged in and do not retract the plug first, the system hangs often. I am not sure if I am imagining this as I think once you power off the display it must be just like pulling the cable out no??
Anyways, one thing is clear, there is a problem somewhere with either Thunderbolt display firmware or Mac OS X drivers.

  • KT3V and front USB

     :O
Someone help me out here I have front usb's on my case but how do I connect them to MB? There is noting in the manual on how to do this? I guess if I can't find a way to do this I can just kiss the front mic and speaker options away too. If anyone can help I would appreciate it as it is right now I don't feel I am getting the most out of my setup.

    Hi,
The manual does tell. Check the pin assignments for JUSB1 port. Match these pin assignments with your case's USB pins. If you need more help, post your case's USB pins, should be at least 8 of them for 4 ports. Copy the manual's JUSB1 port assignments too. We will match them here.

  • Imac G% tiger and Front Row Problem

Front Row do not recognize my Itunes library (tv shows, music etc...)
How can I make it work
I have Tiger and Imac g5(isisght)
    Thanks

Is your profile correct? Is there a reason you're still running Mac OS X 10.4.6? I think you'll need to make sure your iLife applications and iTunes are up-to-date as well as Mac OS X for everything to work correctly together. Mac OS X can be updated to 10.4.11, iTunes can be updated to 7.6.1 and QuickTime can be updated to 7.4.5 all for free. Which version of iLife do you have? '06 or '08? You'll need to make sure you have the most recent versions of iPhoto as well...

  • Soft subtitles in movies and Front Row problem solved

    Hi,
Sorry for this long post but I hope this will help other users of Front Row.
This is how I create a testmovie.mov file from an DVD, TS_FOLDER or other source and the subtitles (soft) will work in Front Row, Quicktime, iTunes, without Perian or other special plugin. In my case the subtitle is NOT burn into the video. It is a track in the testmovie.mov file.
Also I use Elgato turbo h.264 HD to speed up coding. Not necessary.
    1. Create a .m4v movie file (h.264 codec)
In my case I start the application that comes with Elgato turbo h.264 HD device, called Turbo.264.HD
    2. Drop the DVD, TS_FOLDER or other video to convert, onto Turbo.264.HD application or other video converting application.
    3. Click on the little "i" info symbol and the select Audio. The source maybe contains different languages. Click OK.
    4. Select Format. In my case "Apple TV" format (I will use this video on my Mac Mini). Click Start. After a while the video is finished. In this example I call it testmovie.m4v
    5. Download subtitles from Internet. Google: subtitles download
    6. Open the testmovie.m4v in RoadMovie application. This application works for me, but there may be others. http://www.bitfield.se/roadmovie
    7. In RoadMovie, click on Subtitles button and then open the downloaded subtitle file. In this example called testmovie.srt Also, click on the "little eye" Preview. In this view you can adjust the time offset for the subtitle to sync with the video.
    8. In RoadMovie select "Export for: Flattened". This will create a testmovie.mov file with a new subtitle track in it, without ecoding the video.
    9. Open testmovie.mov in, in my case, Quicktime Pro and the select Show Movie Properties.
    10. Select the video track and set the Transparency to Composition. Layer 0
    11. Select the subtitle track and set Transparency to Straight Alpha. Layer 0
    12. Save changes and close Quicktime Pro
    13. Move the testmovie.mov to Movies folder
    14. Start Front Row and select Movies->Movies Folder->testmovie.mov
    Voila!
    /rob

So, as far as I can tell, it's a one-or-the-other situation. Either Front Row doesn't display subtitles (actually, no video at all), or it does (with this workaround). Can't seem to toggle them. If anyone knows of a better way...
So, good job in finding a (multi-step, multi-application, convoluted) way to get this to work, but I'd hardly call this "solved." Don't get me wrong, I'd have never figured this out in a million years. Just...not quite ideal, is it?
I gave Plex a spin, and while it does offer the ability, in theory, to toggle subtitles, I haven't been able to get it to work, either with with this trick or without. I can't believe this is so hard to get right...Apple, if you're listening, there are people who use Front Row. Keep working on it! How about using that middle button of the remote for bringing up an options menu for the currently playing track, rather than duplicating the play/pause button?
Sorry, just frustrated; I finally got a Mac Mini for hooking up to the TV, and now I'm discovering how hard this is.

  • USB 2.0 problem (K7N2G-ILSR and HP PSC 2210)

I'm using a K7N2G-ILSR mainboard in combination with a HP PSC 2210 all-in-one printer. The printer sometimes stops printing and produces an error. The print can not be deleted and I have to reset the computer.
I'm using the latest HP drivers for the printer, Windows XP Pro with all Windows Update fixes and the latest upgrades for teh mainboard (Live-Update).
Is this a known error and is there a fix/workaround (can I set the USB in the BIOS to 1.1 only (instead of 1.1 and 2.0)??
According to HP it is related to the chipset and the USB driver. Until now I have not find a document explaining the problem for this mainboard and a proper solution.
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thanks for your help!
    Cees

Cables are cables still at this point in the game so it could be that you have a faulty cable but there are no special 2.0 cables to buy...
Never been a big fan of the All-in-one printer/scanner/copiers, I've had nothing but problems most of the time when my clients buy them...but they still buy them...if you think about it they really only came out just over a year and a half ago so that technology isn't quite mature yet...
I doubt that it has anything to do with your setup directly, it sounds like a driver issue and one that's clashing with another driver that's used for something else in your machine...no I don't know what cause I don't know what you are using in your system heheheh
I had a client that bought one of the newer photo printers, why I don't know cause he doesn't even own a digital camera, but he just had to have one, but anyway, it would error out everytime he tried to print to it...I reloaded his system and systematically added in one component at a time...writing down everything I did...when I put in his ATI All-In-Wonder card and loaded the software for the TV part lo and behold when I printed I got the error again...couldn't fix it for my life either with all the newest drivers from ATI and HP...went backwards in time for older drivers to no avail...the guy stiffed me on the bill for over $1000.00 and I've not heard from him again so I can't tell you if he fixed it or not at this point...
    Cheers!! 8)

  • Lian Li PC75USB and MSI K8N Diamond Front USB compatibility

Was wondering if its possible to use the front USB's on this mobo/case combination.
The case has the following USB header connectors:
    2 with holes for three pins each.. VCC1 DATA-1 DATA+1 and VCC2 DATA-2 DATA+2.
2 with holes for one pin each.. GROUND 1 and GROUND2.... this means that there's no connector for one PIN (color coded yellow on the mobo).

There are only four pins used per USB connector. If you hook up the fifth one you typically run into problems. Just hook the + cable to the + of the mobo, - to -, ground to ground, and the VCC1 to the remaining one (I can't remember what any of the names on the mobo are). Pins 9 and 10 should stay empty (although one of these probably doesn't have a pin).
    Good Luck

  • Major problem charging ipod from front usb

i was wondering if anyone else had the problem of plugging in an ipod mini to simply charge
it,[im talking about an hp desktop, and using the front usb plug]the ipod unit is off,and
having it wreck havok on one's hard drive, like say possibly corrupting the m.b.r[master boot
record]im asking because this happened once before, but i was able to repair it using xp
pro's recovery console, this time i was not able to correct the problem, windows simply will
not boot from that partition, and i know the only thing that was done,[or plugged in]or
out-was hot swappable, turned off and was the ipod.......please any help here would be hot
    thanx,[email protected]

I've already tried that. iTunes also hangs for a number of minutes whenever I open it up. I have tried trashing prefs etc but no luck. The issue always comes back. Of course I did take this crap G5 into Apple to get it fixed, but they were unable to replicate and so nothing was fixed. I guess I will need to bring it in with my complete setup the next time and show them firsthand. Its funny, I have a 5 yr old Dual G4 that gets used about 4x as much as my less than 6 months old G5.

  • New USB-problem? (K7N2G-L)

Did a search of the forum but didn't find any report that seemed the same (sorry if I missed it)
When turning the system on, USB-devices are most of the time not recognized - all settings are ok, the drivers are there, no problems I can discover - until I remove and reattach my USB-devices. At the next soft reboot, they will still be recognized. If I turn the machine off again, I'll have to reseat everything again, kind of uninteresting and tedious after a couple of weeks now.
I have the latest BIOS (3.3), all devices work flawlessly after reseating, and the fun part is that this phenomenon occurs in both Windows 2000 Pro (all updates installed) and Mandrake Linux 9.0 (all updates installed).
The system is currently a little OC'ed, but this happened on the vanillasystem as well. The currents are well withing specs according to the hardware manager of W2K, and all voltages are also within spec (says Hmonitor and AIDA32). I'm at a loss. Any ideas appreciated

I'd doubt it is my memory, but Bonz, sure, here's my entire spec and how I run it minus the PSU. I can dismantle the machine and check what specs it has if you wish:
    MSI K7N2G-L (MS-6570) BIOS rev 3.3
    Athlon XP1800+
    2x TwinMOS PC2700 CL2 256Mb (in dual channel)
    IBM Deskstar 180GXP 80Gb ATA-100 (on IDE0)
    Compaq DRD8120P DVD (on IDE1)
    Samsung CDR(W) SW-408B (on IDE1)
    Compaq MV740 17" Monitor
Tt Volcano 11 XE CPU cooler
    Tt DDR-coolers (1 active w/fan, 1 passive)
    2x 8cm Papst chassis fans
    1x 8cm Delta chassis fan
    1x 4cm fan on mainboard
    PSU: 360W
    PS/2:
     Kinesis Ergo Elan keyboard
     Logitech Trackman Marble +
    USB:
     Logitech Wingman Extreme 3D
     Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP
     Logitech Wingman Gaming Mouse
     Flashmate 4-in-1 Memorymedia-to-USB adapter
     Sharp Zaurus SL-5000D w/cradle
I'm running at 10.5x175FSB (ie 1842MHz) and the memory at 3-2-2 CL2. Don't let that scare you though, as this USB-problem occurs also at 133 and 166FSB, and with memorytimings by SPD (horrendously slow). Nothing is warm and I've installed a fan at the Mainboard heatsink to keep it cooler too.
As I said, this occurs in W2K Pro (SP3) and Mandrake Linux 9.0.
I'd expect behaviour like that from a severely OC'ed system, but not from my modest OC (or from no OC at all). I even backed down a few MHz to let the poor onboard GFX have an easier life 'til that 4800SE ends up inside it. Then there'll be no telling what will happen...
(Sidenote: the DirectX-tests (DxDiag) says the on-board sound do not support hardware buffers. As the SB Live do hardware buffers, that would mean the onboard sound is in some way inferior to a Live from the non-soundquality point of view but rather from system performance?)
EDIT: wonkanoby, I have tried your solution. I'll tell if it seems to help or not. Thx.

  • MSI K7N2G-LISR Vcore-problems! Anyone?

    Hi!
I just bought my new MB the other day. But it won't start if I raise the voltage at the Vcore!!
    My CPU is a T-bred XP2100+, 512 MB Twinmos PC3200, and Thermaltake Volcano 7+ (w/modified fan).
I tested these parts at another MB, and reached 2,25 Ghz at 1,775 volt.
However, the MSI-card won't start when I modify the voltage at the vcore. I tried with only 1,625 V and it wouldn't start. The pc and all the fans start up, but the screen i all black.
Can anyone please help me with this one?

well well... I returned the board back to my supplier and got the money back. Won't risk my warranty by volt-modding my card.
    I've had these MSI-cards:
    K7Pro2a
    K7Turbo-R
    K7Pro266-R
    KT3 Ultra-ARU
    K7N2G-LISR
But this time I change to Asus, Epox or Abit.
My T-bred Xp2100+ is running at normal speed, aposed to xp2900+ speed with an increase in the voltage at the Abit NF7-S. It's really a shame that MSI has this problem. I've always liked MSI cards due to their bundles, and full of specifications.
Their lack of Extreme overclocking possibillities has never bothered me, as their little tweaking advantages have been enough for me. But this time... it's just to little..
    To bad MSI..

  • [VIA Series] memory and usb problems

Hello...... I have the MSI PM8M-V motherboard, intel celeron 2.93 ghz processor and 256 meg kingston ram. I am upgrading about 50 pcs with this setup. On some, the system will not see any of the USB ports and on almost all of them, the system reports that I have 192 meg of ram instead of the 256. Is this a normal thing with the memory and has anyone else had the problem with the USB ports. Thanks

Quote from: Maesus on 20-December-05, 15:37:44
part of the RAM is taken by the video. That's why you only see 192MB instead of 256MB (64MB is taken by Video).
USB ports? make sure you enable them in the BIOS.
Make sure you have the Chipset Driver updated for the USB problem.
You might also check how you have the Front panel USB’s hooked up to the header on the Mobo. Make sure it is correct.
