K7N2G onboard video anygood?

Looking into building a budget system for another daughter,
She isn't a heavy gamer, mostly internet.
is the onboard video suficient?
Going to use Mushkin Blue 3200. memory should be OK Huh?

hi
im using the onboard graphics and it works great.
i can play need for speed 6 hot pursuit 2 and GTA3 and return to castle wolfenstein without trouble.
BUT you cant use ddr400 at full speed with the internal graphics core.
its limited to ddr333 but i do belive you can use very aggressive timings if you put in a ddr400 and run it at ddr333 speed but im not sure.
it is very easy to run it at 333.
only choose fsb / dram ratio 4:5 if you have a fsb of 266
and 1:1 if you have fsb 333
ddr400 = 3200
ddr333 = 2700
and because amd using dual technology in there cpu the fsb is doubled.
133 is actually 266
166 is actually 333
and 200 is 400
there is a topic about memory.check it out

  • MSI K7N2G-ILSR onboard video initialization problems

Hi, today I replaced my wife's trusty Abit KT7 motherboard with a MSI K7N2G-ILSR.  I used the onboard video since she doesn't play games.  Everything seemed to be working fine until I went to boot it up. The computer started up as usual, but the monitor did not intialize like it should.  The message on the monitor said that " the monitor was working correctly and to check the cord or the computer."  I rechecked all of the connections and everything seemed to be installed correctly.  I thought that maybe there was something wrong with the onboard video, so I decided to install the Radeon 9000 that was in the old system.  To my suprise I received the same message when I started the computer up the second time.  I have built several systems and have never encountered a problem like this before.  I read the thread about problems with the Radeon cards, but no one mentions anything about problems with the onboard video.   I am using a Duron 750, Antec 330 watt PSU and 512 megs of Kingston Value Ram.  I know that several posters have recommended that nforce 2 users need a more pwerful PSU and better ram, but I have a hard time beleiving that those things would cause the video not to intilaize.  I would appreciate any feedback and/or suggestions because I need to make a desision about hwat to do with this board.  Thx.

Well I appreciate the replys.  I formated the harddrive before I installed the motherboard because I was worried that the via drivers would cause problems when I booted it up and installed Win XP.  Bonz, you are right, I am just guessing that everything is OK since I can hear the system start up, but I can't see anything since the video never intializes.  I rechecked all of the connections and even took the motherboard out and reinstalled the cpu, memory and motherboard and the same thing happened.  I started thinking something was wrong with the monitor so I unplugged the monitor from my system, which I know works, and it did the same thing.  I just wish I could get the video to intialize so I could see to get into the bios to look around.  I will check the jumpers on the board and continue to mess around with it.  I would appreciate any feedback I can get.  Thx again.

  • KYN2G-ISLR--How can I disable onboard video?

?( Does anybody know how to disable the onboard video on a K7N2G-ISLR card?
I guess I'm an idiot, because I've been looking around in the manual, searching the bios, and searching this forum, and I can't find the information.
    Help will be greatly appreciated.
     :D
    Thanks very much.

:( Okay, sad news.  The power supply has been swapped out and it did not make a difference.  Sigh.  As I sit, I have the video card installed and the high pitched squeal is causing me hearing damage.
So ... (he says taking a deep breath) ... my train of thought currently goes like this ... it's either the video card or the motherboard.
Now, when I uninstall the video card from the motherboard, the constant squeal goes away.  However, I also just noticed that even with the video card uninstalled, when the cd spins up--guess what?--squeeeeeeeel.
I assume that this tends to incriminate the motherboard, since there is squealing when the video card is not attached?  Someone please shout out if this is a stupid assumption.
I have emails from tech support at both MSI and Sapphire, both of which are A) rather short, and B) say that I may have a defective product and that I may just have to get replacements.  I suppose I'll just contact Outpost.com and have them send me one of each.  Ack.
As always, thanks very much for any input you may have ...
    Ivan
Oh yeah, high praise goes to the folks at Antec.  I called them yesterday and they had the replacement power supply to me by lunch today.

  • K7N2G-L Video and temps

    Gidday all
Is there any way to use the onboard video AND an AGP card at the same time? I replaced my Soltek motherboard with the MSI K7N2G. I use 2 monitors and can't get the 2 to work together on the MSI board. I have tried an nVidia 64MB AGP and a CM32 (32MB) AGP card without luck and using an 8MB PCI card in the meantime.
Maybe a dumb question - but the Soltek worked with the onboard AGP and the nVidia AGP card.
The PC alert panel shows my CPU @21 degrees and system@30 degrees.
However Sandra shows CPU@32 degrees and system@28. Is the PC Alert panel usually out by this amount?

No, when you plug a board into the AGP slot it cuts off the on board video.
    Try this Speedfan

  • Onboard Video quality

    I have the K7N2G with a XP 1700+ and 512MB of Crucial 2700.
I am using the onboard video card set at 128 MB and the image is kinda blurry and the colors are not very vibrant.  I was wondering if this was just due to the quality of the onboard card, or is there something I haven't adjusted in the BIOS?  Or maybe I need more Ram?
    Thanks

I don't know much about the board you are using, so of no help there. But I was thinking maybe something to do with your moniter? Can you do much for adjustments on it?
Otherwise I am sure that one of the guys can help you here.

  • [SOLVED] switching from onboard video to a pci express card

    Hello,
I have an onboard video card [VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] (rev a2)].
I have been running the nouveau driver, but the video card is not truly supported so I bought a [VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [GeForce 8400 GS Rev. 3] (rev a2)].
    However my lspci -k | grep -A 2 -i "VGA" gives this:
00:0d.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] (rev a2)
    Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 2a6c
    Kernel driver in use: nouveau
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [GeForce 8400 GS Rev. 3] (rev a2)

    Kernel modules: nouveau
    Subsystem: eVga.com. Corp. Device 1302
    Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel

    And my xrandr -q gives:
    Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1440 x 900, maximum 4096 x 4096
    VGA-1 connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 408mm x 255mm

    1280x960 60.0
    1152x864 75.0
    1280x720 60.0

    640x480 72.8 75.0 66.7 60.0
    720x400 70.1
I receive no output from the second card at all. Any help to troubleshoot this problem would be greatly appreciated. I simply would like to use one monitor through the VGA port on the new video card.
    thanks.

    Thanks for the reply,
My bios isn't awesome enough to allow me to disable onboard video or set a default card. I'll hunt around for the rest. Also I am using lxdm if that is helpful. Heres my Xorg.0.log:

  • How can i allocate more RAM for my onboard video card on a 2011 macbook pro 13 inch running windows 7 via bootcamp

I noticed that since Macbooks.. macs in general use an EFI instead of BIOS.  . .. Now i need to allocate some more RAM for the onboard video card since its currently running with an estimated 50mb.. I would like to increase this to 512  and cut the 3.95 down to 3.5 MB for the rest of the system ( allowing me to run more graphic intensive games and the such ... ) I know this could slow down the entire system.. ( i am aware of this ) and have gotten a 3rd party application to control and close out uneeded processes during gaming.. I just need more ram for my onboard video card.. Any help?

You don't allocate more RAM towards your video card, you put more RAM into the machine and hopefully some machines will bump the CPU graphics RAM allocation up a little.
The problem is you bought a integrated only graphics computer, if you want to 3D game you need a dedicated graphics computer with it's own or dedicated VRAM.
If your this serious about 3D gaming, your on the wrong platform.
Get a Windows 7 64bit i7 8GB RAM expandable 3D gaming tower with a good power supply and video card upgrade path, this way every few years you buy and stick in a new video card to play the latest games.
Mac's are not gaming machines and never will be because they would last too long if we could upgrade them.

  • Z87 G45 Onboard Video

    Hi.
    Recently I got a system with z87 g45 mainboard, xfx r9 290 graphics card.
When enabling onboard video, and installing VirtuMVP everything seemed fine.
Played a few games and noticed it was giving more of a performance hit then boosting it.
Updated drivers, still the same. Plugged in other monitor to onboard to see if it was working and second desktop displayed fine.
Restarted, checked bios, unplugged second monitor. And then VirtuMVP failed to load, saying gpu not configured.
Rebooted few times, checked device manager, everything looked fine. Plugged in other monitor 'no signal'
tried disabling, uninstalling drivers. redoing. yet still getting 'no signal' when I go to check it (and VirtuMVP won't load)
Even tried monitor that is plugged into r9 290. Nothing on either DVI or HDMI. Just no signal (tho it detects that it's plugged in)
Updated bios. No vga drivers listed in live update, any idea why this is happening?
    B

Well it's still playing a subtle level through the fronts, it's tolerable for most music, but you can play anything like dubstep or anything with heavy bass, hopefully they will find a fix for this.

  • K8NGM2-FID onboard video won't go to DVI in XP

    System is:
    K8NGM2-FID
    BIOS 3.4
Onboard video using 128 MB memory off motherboard
    Athlon 64 x2 3800+
    2 GB (2 x 1GB) RAM Patriot PDC2G3200LLK 2-3-2-5
    Case Antec Sonata II w/PSU Antec Smartpower 2.0 450W dual 12V (15A/17A)
    HDD Seagate ST316012A Barracuda 7200.9 160 GB
    OS WinXP SP2 auto updated
This system has run 24/7 for about 5 months using onboard video driving a Samsung SyncMaster 940t thru the onboard DVI port.
I am using the DVI (digital) onboard video output to drive my monitor.  Recently I have experienced blank screens when waking up from monitor power down (20 minute w/o activity - no screensaver, just auto power down).  When I connect a VGA (analog) cable from the onboard connector to the monitor's analog input the video is there but not present on DVI (digital) output of board.  Otherwise the machine is still completely functional, just no DVI video output.
Rebooting, the video signal is present on BOTH connectors (DVI and VGA) up to the point when Windows loads the desktop (i.e., past Windows boot screens), then it switches to VGA ONLY.
If I power down and wait 3-4 hours, the DVI will continue to work after Windows loads the desktop, then will not return after the monitor powers down due to inactivity (20 minutes, set in properties - screen saver) OR a warm reboot OR a power cycle.  Switching to the VGA (analog) output, the video is still there and system is running as before, but with analog video only, no DVI (digital).  This occurs with two other monitors that have dual inputs (HP and Viewsonic).
Video drivers are from MSI and are the current Version 8205 - (8.2.0.5 on device manager screen) but BIOS is 3.4. BIOS update 3.4->3.5->3.6 notes do not mention any DVI issues so I am hesitant to flash to 3.6 (current version) as I do not think it will fix the problem.
Bringing up nVidia Nview desktop manager, it 'sees' the monitor but there is no mention of DVI or VGA interface or way to switch between them.  If I hook up a TV to the Svideo output it 'sees' that as well as the monitor and I can switch between them.
Does anyone know of a way to explicitly direct signal to either of the onboard video connectors (DVI and VGA) connector on this board (K8NGM2-FID)?
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    ss

    I fixed the system.
However, I still don't know the root cause of the original problem.
The missing piece of the fix was doing an uninstall of the video device drivers using the Control Panel 'Add or Remove Programs' function.  Prior to that I was just updating things using either the package's native installers or the Device Manager Update Driver function.
After the uninstall I did a clean install of the MSI drivers off a CD and now have selectable digital and/or analog displays in Windows XP.  Also, the nvidia drivers DO work, provided they are installed on a 'clean' suystem (thanks, Stu).  Installing either driver set as an update results in unstable output - sometimes digital, sometimes analog.
Moral of the story: clean up toothpaste before squeezing the tube again.

Does anybody know how to disable the onboard video card of the KM4M-L?  I tried just plugging in another AGP card, but it doesn't work.  I've gone through the bios, but can't find any reference to the onbard video.
Another question I have is which card is faster, the onboard video or my old Viper V770 with 32MBs of ram (I know, it's ancient!)
Thanks in advance for your help.

The viper but not by much. The o/b AGP is disabled automaticly but your problem is your board only supports AGPx4/1.5v cards.
Have a read through this thread (it's a P4 board but the same applies).

  • Dc5850 Quad monitors: Onboard Video + Video Card

I have a HP dc5850 AMD Minitower and would like to hook up 4 monitors.
I read here on the hp site that you can utilize both onboard video (Dual DVI) and use an additional Video Graphics Card (Dual DVI) to support a total of 4 monitors (2 from onboard dual DVI and 2 from dual dvi from the Graphics card) by enabling the SurroundView in F10 setup.
    HP lists these ATI cards:
ATI Radeon X1300 Pro (256 MB DH) PCIe Graphics Card -AH050AA (total of four displays along with on-board)
ATI Radeon HD 2400XT (256 MB DH) PCIe Graphics Card -KD060AA (total of four displays along with on-board)
ATI Radeon HD 3650 (512 MB DH) PCIe x16 Graphics Card -KS505AA (total of four displays along with on-board)
Am I limited to these cards or can I use a more current "ATI" dual DVI PCI-e x16 card work with the onboard video?

    Hi,
Be careful with the newer AMD graphics cards as they make not work in your PC.  Know what the return policy is before you buy.
I typically like to suggest the older NVIDIA cards with some exceptions as they have been shown to provide better compatibility with older PCs.  However, the older NVIDIA cards will only support two monitors. Some of the older AMD cards have backwards compatibility issues in some of the HP PCs.

  • DirectX problems - Onboard video problems? K9VGM-V

I am having problems with loading the new Nero suite (7.xx) version.  It keeps coming back with a DirectX error.  The guys at Ahead are telling the same thing.
My question is:  Can I use DirectX 9.0c using the onboard video?  I don't know what bios I have yet.
PCTools 2000 tells me I have DirectX9.0c installed and is okay.

Thanks for the ideas.  I have already done the Directx diagnostics.  That didn't change anything.
when I try to run the Directx diag I get this error.  "The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library GDI32.dll"
In fact, that dll (GDI32.dll) doesn't even show up in the list of directx files in the diagnostics window.
I have tried to load a different version of the dll but I can't since it's in use by windows.
The guys from Nero have told me that it's my video drivers incompatibility with with my video drivers.  They have a program that copies a whole heck of a lot of details from my computer and creates logs.
I have since done the online upgrade of my video drivers from MSI.  It still doesn't work.
I am noticing that I could not load Diskeeper either.  It comes up with some error, too.
    This has been very frustrating.
    Thanks in advance, Ray.
Reloading windows is such a pain.

  • K8D master ft onboard video problem

Hi, I have the k8d master ft and when I install a pci vid card the onboard video is disabled. Does anyone know how or even if it is possible to run both? I could not find anything in bios but maybe I missed it.
    thanks.

Sorry, you can't....this happens on all boards that I have seen.

  • Disable onboard Video

I have a onboard GeForce 6150SE, nForce 430, I want to change to GeForce 8400, My computer won't detect the new card, I changed bios to 16X and still won't find it, how do I disable onboard card and what do I need to change for the new one to load?- Do I need to change legacy boot?

I finally fixed it.  After flashing back to the newest bios, I did a hard CMOS clear and booted with just the mouse and keyboard plugged in to the top USB plugs (no LAN or audio hooked up) and it allowed me to disable it finally.
Every motherboard can disable onboard video... Just because it is part of the 790GX chipset doesn't mean it can't be disabled.  There is some sort of bug I don't even know how to reproduce for this motherboard.
edit: after saving and restarting it took away the disabled option and only went back to UMA or UMA+Sideport.  MSI engineers and/or bios team fails hard.  This is the only board I've ever seen act this stupid.

  • How to disable onboard video chip (ms6337)

    Hi all.
    My mainboard is MS6337(815Epro , bios version:1.4)
I've bought a new videocard ,so I want to disable the onboard video chip.
    Thanks for any help .

I don't really have anything to compare with  :(
I would need another i815E board to see if there is supposed to be a change at all.
My guess is that since there is no 3D engine in the integrated VGA core you need very little memory bandwidth to run it:
    1024*768 @ 85 FPS 24bit = 1024*768*85*4=255MB/S
The RAM is capable of 1066MB/S, but the PIII CPU never uses that anyway so there is no bandwidth conflict between the CPU and VGA.
