K7N420 & 2x512 Registered ECC???

My K7N420 pro and Athlon XP1800 hasnt shown me any display yet (no beeps either), the diagnostic lights are 3-RED and 1-GREEN (number 3 GREEN) indicating its stuck on initializing key board controller according to the manual.
Could it be the RAM? I have 2x infineon 512 registered ECC 2100 DDR sticks "HYB25D256800AT-7", I know there is not a reason in the world to use ECC in such a board, but its just what i can use at the moment.
The same thing happens without the RAM, im confused weather its the board or incorect RAM.
The rest of the Hadrware is a 60gig IBM drive, standard logitech KB (about 2-3 years old), standard PS2 mouse and 17" monitor
Anyone else have something like this?
-no display or beeps
-stuck on one green light
Im sure its the RAM causing, but I cant find any documentation that says it can or cant take ECC.
any ideas/thoughts would be great

knavish,
I use only Mushkin 256MB Hi Perf PC2100 DDR SDRAM 222 in the nForce comps I build and it is 100% Rock Solid Stable.  It is the best RAM I have found for nForce.
I always put in two sticks for Twinbank.
Take Care,
Richard

  • Registered ECC DDR400?

I have a G5 dual cpu 2.7GHz. Can I use Registered ECC DDR400, or only unregistered?

Hi! It's not designed to use ECC memory so stick with memory such as THIS. Tom

  • Does Mac Pro 4,1/5,1 support "buffered/registered" ECC memory?

As the spec said, Mac Pro 4,1 & 5,1 use ECC unbuffered memory, but I really do want to know if "buffered/registered" ECC RAM will work on Mac Pro 5,1 with no problem?
I know "Unbuffered and Fully-Buffered" memory are 2 totally different stuff, and cannot use with the other side.
But what about "buffered/registered" memory? Could it use under "unbuffered" mother board like MacPro 4,1 & 5,1? If so, can they mix with others?
I've google and search around the internet but still didn't find the answer...

    Mr. Bennet-Alder:
I think you are confusing DDR3 and DDR2 type of memory modules.
DDR2 PC2-8500 were the FBDIMMs that were used in the 2.1 and 3.1 Mac Pro versions (before 2009).
These were 800Mhz or 600Mhz versions.  They used serial data channels from one DIMM to the next so the DIMMs had to be clocked very quickly to achieve speeds.  Thus, the need for the fully buffered DIMM to pass the data from one DIMM to the next.   Because they were clocked so quickly, they had to have heat sinks to bring the temperature down to the lower fan speeds Apple wanted to use.   The heat sinks kept prices high.  So did the fact that few servers adopted the FBDIMM technology.   These also had ECC.
DDR3 PC3-10600 and DDR3 PC3-8500  were used in later MAC Pros, version 5.1 and 4.1 respectively.
    PC3-10600 is a 1333Mhz DIMM.   PC3-8500 is a 1066Mhz DIMM.
Both of these are using ECC bits.  Thus, there are actually 9 parallel data bits, one of which is for ECC.
Registered/buffered and Unregistered/unbuffered have a different meaning than  FBDIMM.
It is better to use the Registered/Unregistered terminology to avoid confusion with FBDIMMs.
Registered DIMMs are sometimes referred to as RDIMMs and Unregistered DIMMs as UDIMMs.
Also one may see an R on the end of the PC3-8500 designation as in PC3-8500R to designate registered memory.
One thing that is for sure, the memory controller in the CPUs has to have uniform memory in the slots for each given processor.   That is, you cannot mix registered memory in one slot with unregistered memory in another slot for the same processor.  Apple indicates the computer will not boot in this case.  This is because the signal timing differs to each and the memory controller in the CPU is only a homogeneous type.
Apple indicates that registered DIMMs are supported by Mac Pro version 5.1 - 2010 models.
They have not provided the same indication for Mac Pro version 4.1 - 2009 models.
WIth that said, firmware on version 4.1 macs may be able to be upgraded to support RDIMMs.
I suppose this updates the timing issue to suppor the RDIMMs.
    Why is this significant -
Used registered DIMMs with ECC are easier to come by due to people upgrading their server computer to more denser  memory capacity in the same slot.
Used unregistered DIMMs with ECC are harder to come by.
Accordingly, used registered DIMMs are less expensive on ebay.
    My 2 cents.

  • Unable to connect and register ECC from  NW Gateway 2.0

    Hi everyone,
After installing SAP NetWeaver 7.4 I am having a few issues connecting it all up to my ECC system.  The problem i have is in SEGW under Service Maintenance.  I can see the ECC server i have created but i am unable to Register or Maintain.  The error log is showing up with no entries.
Below is the error i get when i try and Register the entry (ECC server (I'm assuming its grabbing that info from the Gateway settings))
All components are running on the NW7.4 and i'm making RFC calls to the ECC server.
    System Alias settings:
    Local GW is ticked
RFC connection is specified (<SID>CLNT400) of the ECC backend system i'm trying to connect to
    Software Version = Default
    System ID = blank
    Client = blank
    WS Provider System = blank
    Gateway Settings
Destination System = hostname of ECC server (both instances NW7.4 and ECC reside on the same physical box)
    Client = 400
System Alias = as per "System Alias" settings setup above
RFC Destination = <SID>CLNT400  -  RFC connection to ECC backend system
    RFC Connection <SID>CLNT400 settings
    Target host is specified
    Instance # is specified
    Current user is ticked
    Trust relationship = Yes
From the Gateway server i'm able to go into SM59 -> Select the RFC destination and successfully "Remote Logon"
If anyone can help me out here i would be very grateful.
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Chandra,
Thanks for your quick reply.  I have checked my logged on user authorizations on both systems (same username exists on both systems).  On both the Gateway server and the ECC system i have the auth object S_RFCACL and all Fields have '*'.
I am also able to Remote Logon through SM59 using my userid which i don't believe I would be able to do if it wasn't set correctly.

    Rob

I have purchased the MSI 875P Neo-FISR (PCB 2.0) and installed a 512MB DDR333, PC2700, CL2.5, ECC registered dimm (HYS72D64300GBR-6-C) but the system won't boot up.  I have a Intel Pentium 4 3 GHZ CPU, 512K cache, 800 MHZ bus installed.  When I install a 512MB PC2100 unregistered the system works OK, but not with the registered ECC registered DIMM.  In the manual it is quoted as saying it supports this type of memory.  I have updated the BIOS to the latest version from the MSI website. Any ideas ????

  • Does NF980-G65 take ECC/Registered RAM?

I know that it's not on the official list of tested, supported RAM, but does the NF980-G65 accept any ECC/Registered RAM modules?  I can't find information on them anywhere.  Anyhelp would be appreciated.

Your board does not support Registered ECC RAM.  You have to use unregistered non-ECC RAM.

  • Full ECC support?

Do the Nvidia Nforce3-250 motherboards like the K8N Neo2 Platinum support ECC?  The manual mentions compatibility with 18 chip dimms, and that they "are compatible".  ButI didn't find any mention in the manual of the ECC functionality, and the BIOS doesn't seem to have anywhere to enable/disable ECC support.
    I also checked the http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_trp_list.php
URL, but it didn't help clarify the situation.
I'd like to assume that ECC works, but with a different manufacturer it turned out
ECC dimms worked as in the system could use the available memory, but the
    ECC functionality was ignored.j
Will ECC work fully, as in single bit errors are corrected, and double bit errors
    are reported?

    Don't remember this now.
Anyway i have not heard of anyone that has tried it , so i guess this is still
    a not confirmed issue .

  • Registered DDR & regular DDR what's the dif?

Hi all. What's the difference between Registered/ECC DDR modules and non registered/ECC ones?Any performance boost?

ECC= Error checking and correcting. Memory has additional modules, often smaller that goes near connecting pins that do check and correct if has to, memory work. Registered= Additional function that helps memory to move massive data. As said, these memories are made for servers that supports sinchronic memory.- You can read about it forum in Corsair website. (This is a short and most possible bad resume). One thing is clear as you stated in your post. They more than often, doesen't work on common Mobos.

Included with the board was a USB 2.0 card, which actually works, but according to my manual, my on-board ports should work, too..
I already emailed MSI tech support, however that was 2 weeks ago and they haven't since gotten back to me.

  • S20 4157-AE8 RDIMM: Works or Doesn't Work?

    Hey all,
I have a S20 4157-AE8 and I'm looking to upgrade my memory.  I got some 4gb 10600 ECC Registered modules from work to test and when I put them in the machine and turn it on, I get nothing.  Machine comes on and fans are running, but there are no beeps and no video.  I tried just 1 module and that didn't work either.  Put one of my original modules in the same slot and it booted fine... So I know I'm in the right slot.
What I don't know for sure is if "registered" ecc memory will work.  Some places I find on the net says it will work and others specifically say it will not.
Could this be a bios version issue?
Anyway, here is a link that states it works... http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkStation/S20-with-RDIMMs-OK-but-issue-with-L5640-and-UDIMM-or-RDIMM/...
Here is a link that states it does not work... https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkStation/RDIMM-memory-in-the-S20/td-p/1475246
That last link shows the specs which I have seen that rdimm works.  The speed of the rdimms I have is higher than that, but shouldn't they still work?
Anyway, I'm thinking rdimms don't really work as I'm seeing more stuff on the net stating they don't work that what I'm finding for they do work.
Seeing if anyone here can clear this up before I lose my mind or waste money on memory that won't work.
    Thanks,
    Doug D.
    Solved!

    welcome to the forum!
RDIMMs weren't qualified on the S20, only ECC uDIMMs.   the second thread you linked is indeed correct.
i'd want to know exactly what model of RDIMM was used in the first discussion since i can't recall ever being able to use an RDIMM in the S20.   while it's certainly possible, i'm skeptical myself.

  • Photoshop CS5 interface gets really slow *only* when an image is open

So this is really odd. Photoshop gets really slow when any image, regardless of size is open. When there are no images open it runs smoothly. The interface gets really laggy, filter usage, tool selection or any other usage is really sluggish, but only with an image open, even if it's a single pixel.
I've tried different performance settings - changing where the scatch drive is, how much memory to allocate, what the cache levels are set at, enabling/disabling openGL, etc. It makes no difference if it's after a fresh reboot or if it's been on for days. No software has changed since the upgrade. Memory test don't show any issues and no other application has this problem - Illustrator, After Effects, Maya, Mudbox, etc. are all fine.
    My system specs
    Windows 7 x64 Enterprise - Service pack 1 installed
    Dual Xeon quadcore E5620 @ 2.4GHx (sixteen threads w/hyperthreading)
    96 GB Ram - DDR3 - 1333 MHz / PC3-10600 - registered - ECC

    X3  Seagate Constellation 2TB 7200 RPM SAS 6Gb/s setup in a RAID 5 config
I'd think it would be a memory issue if all apps had similar problems, or if PS had issues when just being open. It's odd that it happens only when an image is open.
Thanks for any an all help.

Just to make sure, did you close and restart Photoshop after changing OpenGL settings and before testing?  That's important, and not having done so could lead you to invalid assumptions.
