K7N420 Pro drivers unknown

Good Evening,
Hello, I had to reinstall my OS recently. Upon reinstall, 5 drivers
were not found. They are:
PCI Device
Ethernet Controller
Multimedia AudioController
Multimedia Audio Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
Video Controller
One is the Radeon 9500, however, the one that is the most
important is the Ethernet Controller. I attempted to reinstall this driver
using the i386 directory on the Windows 2000 CD. It did not find a device
driver. I tried the same with the CD that came with this motherboard. It
also did not find a driver. The 6373 manual did not tell me which device
driver I would need to get these devices to function. I would like to get
all of these to function except one of the Video drivers, I'll handle that
myself later.
Where can I get these drivers? What am I missing?
Galen
AMD Athlon XP 1800
MSI K7N420 Pro
Video chipset unknown
HD Seagate Barracuda
Audio Driver unknown
SPI 350W PS
Win 2000 Pro w/no SP

short answer: the nvidia nforce platform driver is indicated nowhere.
Long answer: The nvidia drivers are "reference drivers". Theoretically, the system integrators test and release them under their own name for their own platform (you can find those under the driver tab in the MSI description). However, this process takes time and is done unfrequently. Moreover, they are just rebadged reference drivers.
So, just grab the latest nvidia drivers and all will be OK.

  • K7N420 pro MSI 6952 TV-Out Riser Card troubles

just wondering if anyone has gotten the MSI 6952 TV-Out Riser Card to go with their K7N420 pro motherboard and if so how do you get it to work as ive tried for months on end and i still have many failed attempts at getting it to function

It is your drivers. You need to get the 29.XX series of detonator drivers and use those to get tv-out to function.
I had a K7N420 and a tv-out card... long dead, exploded caps. I recall that the last version of the detonators that worked for sure was the 29.20s. I experience the same difficulty with my geforce3 Ti500 and the new drivers... no tv-out signal as the drivers cannot seem to detect the presence of a tv on the other end of the svideo cable.
Try it out and see if it works

  • K7N420 Pro -- RAM issues -- won't boot/crashes

    System info:
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1900+
    Motherboard Model: K7N420 Pro
Memory: (Varying, this is the problem, explained in post: but to begin with the system had 2 modules of 256MB PC2100 266mHz. Brand name unknown, some generic manufacturer. For reference's sake, the motherboard has THREE memory slots)
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce2 Integrated GPU, GeForce2 Integrated GPU, 32MB
    Hard Drive: Western Digital 80GB
Other cards: None that I know of
Operating System: Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
    Power Source: Addtronics 300w (3.3v/18a, 5v/30a, 12v/9a)
Okay, so obviously we've got an old, old beast here.... But she's served me well, and I'd like to get a little more out of her. So here's the ongoing (very long, I'm sorry) saga:
The computer started doing crashing on me some time ago; lots of Blue Screens of Death, no error messages that gave me anything reliable to use for diagnostic purposes. Eventually it just wouldn't even manage to boot, each time would give me a BSOD. I opened the case up, checked for anything obviously visually wrong (blown capacitors etc), did a good thorough aircan dusting, popped out the two 256MB chips (let us call them Chip and Dale), and popped them back in.
This did indeed have a result- now we didn't even make it to the BSOD! All I got was a repeated ominous beeping and nothing coming onto the monitor at all. I then tried to put in only one chip at a time. Results: Chip works in slots #1 and #2, but not #3; Dale works not at all. (By "works" I mean the computer boots normally and runs normally, for at least an hour, the most I've tested it. Runs SLOW, of course, at 256MB, but runs. By "not works" I mean we get nothing on-screen, and the repeated ominous beeping.)
I presumed I had bad memory on my hands with Dale and that I needed new memory anyways, so I headed to Fry's and picked up two sticks of Patriot 512MB PC2100 DDR 266mHz-- the same specs as the old memory, excepting that it is 512MB instead of the 256. (According to Crucial.com, my motherboard's slots should each be able to support 512MB.) Let's call the Patriot 512 chips Bill and Ted.
Results with the new memory: Neither will work in slot #3. Logic dictates slot #3 is bad. Bill will work in slot #1 or slot #2. Ted will work only in slot #1. The computer will NOT boot if both Bill and Ted are occupying slots. (It also won't boot if Chip is occupying a slot and either Bill or Ted are in another slot.)
(Doesn't this sound like like one of those old logic problems where you have to sort out who owns which house?)
So the best I can get out of her right now is to stick Bill or Ted into slot #1 and proceed with the same 512MB that Chip and Dale used to give me back when they cooperated. However, new wrinkle: neither Bill nor Ted will get along with the computer for anything more than about a half-hour-- then, the computer crashes, tries to auto-reboot, and starts doing Black Screen and Ominous Beeping again. The RAM has to be popped out and put back in before it will boot normally.
*deep breath* I know that was long, thanks to anybody who read this far. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing these problems and/or how to fix it? I've reached the end of all the knowledge I can put to work on this problem.
If I haven't been clear on anything, please let me know, I'll try to answer.

    Hello,
Are you 100% sure that slot 3 is clean/dust free?
Memtest is a program that writes patterns to the memory.
The program then tries to recall the pattern(data) stored in the memory location.
If the memory is faulty the pattern(data) may have altered (goes corrupt) and the program will report an error.
Use just 1 stick at a time in slot 1.
Patriot Bill, let memtest run for say 3 hours.
If everything is ok you will not see any errors on the screen.
Then turn off and remove patriot Bill.
Insert patriot Ted into slot 1.
Run memtest again for 3 hours.
Again if everything is ok after the 3 hours it means that both Bill and Ted are ok.

any suggestions we the following requirements:
The most value for the littlest amount of money.  Must support DX8.1.  I have $310.00 in the parts right now and don't really want to go over $450.00.
Back to setup.  I need help with the order to install drivers and software and versions.  In addition, were can I get these versions.  Emphasis on stable computer,  I don't game very much but will venture into a few flight simulators soon.
    Any help greatly appreciated
    David Thomas

    David,
The only change would be the Power Supply.  Get if you can an Antec TruePower.  You can get a True330W for around $55.00 and it is well worth it if you are going to upgrade from onboard graphics in the next week or so.
The GeForce4 Ti4200 is the best bang for the buck at them moment, and they are getting hard to find in the 64Mb 4X Version.  If you can get one for $125.00 you are doing very well and will be very happy with your computer.
    Good Luck,
    Richard

  • K7N420 Pro Sound problems in Win98SE

When i do a clean install of Win98 SE and only install the nForce Drivers, on my K7N420 Pro BIOS v2.8 mainboard. (I tested the nVidia v2.41 drivers and the drivers from MSI v2.29) All media which is played with the Media Player is played too fast. I think this is a driver issue.
I tested with Windows XP, with the XP drivers from nVidia (v2.45) and there was played everything at the correct speed.
Is there a fix for the, I think, audio drivers or is there an other simple solution.

  • MSI K7N420 Pro continous reboots while starting up

I have a computer with the following specs:
    MSI-K7N420 Pro
    AMD Athalon 1800
    Crucial 256MB Ram PC2100
    ON board Video
    Quantum 40GB HD
    Windows XP Pro
    Codegen Power Supply 400 W
    +5V - 40 Amps = 200W
    +3.3V - 20 Amps = 66 W
    +12 V - 12 Amps = 144 W
When the system is started up it will show the Windows XP Pro Screen loading, it will then flash a Blue Screen with some error text ~ 200ms and then the computer monitor will show a No Signal Message. The computer will reboot like it is in a loop. Randomly it will make it through the boot and go to safe mode, sometimes it will say the windows had a serious error and when it reports it to microsoft, the response from Microsoft is that the VGA Driver was hung up in a infinite thread. Please check video drivers. After it makes it through the boot sequence, it will run normally sometimes for days before it starts this routine over again. I have the latest bios, drivers and windows updates currently installed. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, it seemed to start having most of the problems when Windows XP Service Pack 2 was installed. Six months ago, I had to reformat my harddrive due to missing system files (i.e. ntldr.dll, and others). No problems where found on the Hard drive.
    Thanks in advance,

    SOFTWARE
    Windows XP
every nforce board driver could find
    every video driver could find
(ranging from windows driver 5.1 from MS to the latest 41.03 from Nvidia)
even the motherboard cd drivers (as a note have installed other drivers after these to see if the later drivers incorrectly set a registry setting or something)
    * Reinstalled Windows from scratch between driver installation if problem still occured
    SOME FACTS
I have had bios 2.2 to 2.7 and currently using 2.7
I have tried the components above as a bare bones system, as a full blown system, and every combination in between.
Have have windows 2000 and XP, as well as WinME.
    Swapped memory to test compatability.
Also for testing have tried Gforce 2 (brand not remembered) MX-200 with 64mb
Disabled Onboard Audio, Video and LAN seperately and together and combinations.
Could gaurantee pc to BSOD whenever It wanted to.  Still does.  Do believe certain combination of drivers/BIOS affect the stability.
PIO mode problem with ltr24102b if using ATA card, but not in a different machine.
    SYMPTOMS
BSOD - During gameplay (NOLF2 Demo, Dungeon Keeper 1 unpatched, Diablo2 and Lord of Destruction as examples, not just the latest games)
One of the BSOD errors was IRQ not equal thing, another was it thought my agp card was a cause and shut me down. NV4disp.  Have tried multiple detonator drivers
BkSOD - During Dungeon keeper 1 it black screned me.
During installation of windows XP I have been getting BSOD errors.  This was when reset the BIOS to default.
Note: bios 2.2 default did not allow HDD smart to be enable, or it would not even make my monitor light go green, had to reset bios (power off thing)
Even get BSOD errors with not playing games. For example moving files from 1 directory to another, etc
    CONCLUSION
As a father with 6 childen and a very limited budget, all my compute componets were purchased through frugal saving, buying secondhand (from people who looked after their hardware), and from money from presents.
Apparently Nvidia are going to release board drivers to help with the problem.
I do not have internet access at home as It is a luxury, and this means to access drivers/etc I have to pay at access points, or ask a friend a favour.
This has been ongoing since date of purchase, and am really sick of it.
Have read to forums and until now have not stated my problems.
In my opinion it is not about people who have a working nforce, but about the ones who don't!
The customer may not be king, but they should feel like they are.
I bought an MSI board based upon reliability, strength and performance, which I hope is true! MSI, take notice of me.  I am just a user of your hardware who wants it to work.
    Craig

Well, I realise your post was a statement of fact not a request for help  8o  or maybe it was, but I missed the asking bit  )
Have you considered seeking a RMA for the board???, as a person on limited means you sure have a lot of things stuck on the mobo, not to mention I can't really see when you have a video card attached or not - still as I say your 'statement' will more than likely be read by MSI altthough to be certain they get your message I'd suggest you email them.
Not many here have things like 3 optical drives and 'marginal PSU' but then again I would find it hard to pick if you suffered from brown outs due to equipment loads - anyway good luck with it, your right nVidia has taken notice and said it's their problem not MSI so a fix for those unfortunates is on it's way

  • No onboard sound- MSI k7n420 Pro after installing ATiI 9700 pro

I'm not sure if this has been answered previously.
I just installed an ATI 9700 pro on my MSI K7N420 Pro. Video card works great, but sound is absent after installing vid card.
In device manager shows yellow marks on nforce audio codec interface and nforce midi Uart. The former says: NtKern.vxd device loader for this device could not load the device driver. THe latter says: This device is either not present,, not working properly, or does not have all drivers installed.
I tried reinstalling the drivers using the windows files present in system, but nothing changed.
I'm not sure what to do next.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    System hardware:
MSI K7n420 MB with onboard sound & video, ver 1.05
    ATI 9700 Pro video card
    512 MB ram pc2100
    40 GB western HD
    win98

    Hi,
Win98 - SE? Although this board (K7N420) works fine with Win 98 it can have driver issues (although, it's that long since I installed it - I can't remember what they were!). An upgrade to XP (Pro if possible) should be at the top of your Xmas list - then issues such as the one you're having should be a thing of the past
The card will work with DirectX 8 but as far as I know the 9700 is fully DirectX 9 compatible - so you should really install it as it enables more features.
You can find your BIOS version on the initial boot screen!
Have you any IRQ conflicts? - Check device manager.
Is PNP OS enabled in your BIOS? if so disable it and see what happens. Also Enable APIC! (BIOS)

  • Problems with creative digital 2.1 speakers & k7n420 pro spdif...

Hi guys, wonder if anyone can help me out. I just bought a set of Creative Soundworks Digital 2.1 speakers to take advantage of the SPDIF out from my k7n420 pro mobo. Problem is there seems to be no signal coming out of the SPDIF socket on the mobo as the speakers do not work when i connect them up. They work fine from the line out jack but i want the SPDIF connection to work X(  . Also when I try to use the nForce audio panel it keeps saying "An unsupported operation was attempted". Should I upgrade to the 1.12 drivers (currently using 1.05) or is there some way i've missed to enable SPDIF? Thanks for any help anyone can give.

  • MSI K7N420 PRO & Philips CDRW1208

I can't get this philips burner working properly with this mobo. anyone got any ideas how to fix that problem?
I've dl-ed all latest drives for mobo and cdrwdrivers.
Nothing helps...the philips only get's into PIO mode (UDMA isn't possible) and when i burn a cd or transfer files from that cdrw to my Harddisc my machine get's ultra slow. So when i burn a cd i can't do anything else  X(
    I've got a Athlon XP 1800+, 786MB DDR-RAM, 2x 40gig IBM 7200, 1x 80gig maxtor 5400, and ofcoarse this MSI K7N420 PRO mobo.
Hope anyone knows what to do with this...
ps: i also mailed Philips bout this and they told me to get all latest drivers for all this hardware and stuff blalba the usual  they say....

I had a similar problem with a cheap CD (read-only) that wouldn't copy my Dungeon siege files properly. I bought a CDRW (only slightly more expensive) of a different make and it works perfectly.
The Nforce board has performed flawlessly throughtout, but I had either a bad drive or just a cheap one. Go figure.
I'd say, try another drive and see how it works. There's an old saying (please excuse the epithet): "Ya can't make chicken salad outta chicken sh*t." Quality does play a part is making a system work.
    Best of luck,

  • MSI K7N420 Pro + Adaptec DuoConnect + Maxtor 5000DV = USB 2.0 & FireWi

I've had my MSI K7N420 Pro for about a year and apart from initial teething problems it's been rock solid (BIOS v2.2). After much deliberation I decided not to upgrade the motherboard and purchased the Adaptec DuoConnect PCI card to add USB 2.0 & FireWire ports along with an external Maxtor 5000DV USB 2.0 / FireWire combo HDD.
A couple of frustrating days later I've concluded this motherboard does not like the DuoConnect and in fact it may be related to this nForce PCI write issue referred to elsewhere. Some tests I did include:
    (1) the HDD works fine attached to the built-in USB 2.0 & FireWire ports in a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP
    (2) the HDD works fine attached to the DuoConnect USB 2.0 & FireWire ports in a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP
    (3) the HDD works fine attached to the built-in USB 1.1 ports in the MSI K7N420 Pro
    (4) the HDD fails miserably attached to the DuoConnect USB 2.0 & FireWire ports in the MSI K7N420 Pro
In last case I would always get dialog boxes popup about a "Delayed Write Failure" and / or errors like the following in the event log:
    Event Type:   Error
    Event Source:   sbp2port
    Event Category:   None

I have updated all software drivers etc to be the latest version. The only thing left is the BIOS, which I am very reluctant to flash unless others think it will help.
Has anyone else had these problems? Does anyone else think it is related to the nForce PCI write issue and will this ever get fixed in a new BIOS??
    MSI K7N420 Pro (BIOS v2.2)
    Windows 2000 SP 3
    nVidia nForce drivers v2.0

Well I flashed to 2.7 without any problems... used /CC /LD switches to clear CMOS and load defaults afterwards.
The results are a mixed bag... the HDD works fine attached to the USB 2.0 ports! However attached to the FireWire ports it either fails to detect, or if I boot with the drive connected it detects but has an error in the event log and fails to show the HDD in the file explorer.
I did't expect different slots to make a difference as I'm using ACPI / IPCA (APIC disabled), but I tried 3 different slots anyway to no avail... the IRQs were always assigned to shared IRQ 11 as expected.

  • Audio on K7N420 pro

Hey all, thought I would pick your brains.
I have a K7N420 pro, and have all the on board audio disabled, yet the drivers installed the audio component.  Not that it works, however, it has left the Nvidia nForce APU item in my system try.  I can not figure out how to remove it.  I think I will have to hack the reg, but wanted to get feed back first.  I can not manipulate that system tray item, nor the one in the control panel.
    Thanks for your feedback.

Zerito, I can see using the audigy if, in fact, it's better than Nforce Sound, but benchmarks say otherwise. Check out this (almost at the end of the article):
Nforce vs. SB Live! CPU Utilization
I haven't seen comparisons using the Audigy, but I think it still uses more CPU Power.

  • Scrolling problem with K7N420 Pro

I've got a K7N420 Pro and a Athalon 1800XP running Window XP Home with 768 MB of DDR 2100 RAM.  The problem is the scrolling is terribly slow.  Doesn't matter what I use, Explorer, Word, or any other software.  Doesn't matter if I use the scroll function of the mouse or the scroll bar on the side of the screen.
The screen setting I'm using is 1024x 768 and it seems a little better at 800x600.  I've updated the bios to version 2.6 and I've played around with bios settings and nothing has helped.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

  • MSI K7N420 Pro SoundMax CNR Card

I have recently purchased a computer that uses the Msi K7N420 Pro
motherboard.  It came with a CNR card made by Soundmax, which has
no documentation.  When I plugged my Klipsch Promedia 5.1 speakers
into it I ended up with only the front two speakers working. (I tested on Star
Wars Episode I, and Shrek.  Both use Dolby Digital 5.1)  I have all my WindowsXP
home settings at 5.1 sound, and I have refitted the card multiple times
with no luck, as well as updating all the drivers and the bios to the
latest.  When I run the setup program for the card (found my browsing
the MSI CD) I get a message that says something to the extent of
"Driver not detected, please reboot and try again."  I decided to
search Windows to see if it is detecting the card and I came up with
no results.  I dont think that the plug and play is picking it up.
I am wondering if this CNR card has a jumper setting on it, or something
I can do to it to get it work.  I'm pretty sure the problem lies either
in the card or in the slot that it fits into.  Please Help!!!

I switched the output to Stereo instead of dolby surround (Like I had done a thousand times before) and this time it worked!!  On that 6channel audio file all six channels were working.  I then tested it in Shrek (the only DVD sitting near my CD right now) and the center didnt seem to be firing but the rears were working so i'm sure its just the movie.  Thanks a lot!!
I'm also wondering about the SPDIF.  My speakers do not have an SPDIF in on them, but if I connect my motherboard to my CNR with the SPDIF will it improve at all?  Thanks again!!

I just want to ask two questions. I'm looking at my christmas present being one of the fastest supported cpus by the k7n420 pro? (I remember it being the 2100+ model but then it was raised)
And, does anyone know if I can flash a bios onto a board using a cd writer? Has anyone tried? And do you have to do anything special or just write the programming software and bios to cd (just like floppy) and just boot to dos using windows ME startup disk to use commands to open and program bios?
    Thank you,

    Thank you,
In theory, you should be able to create a bootable CD, boot from your writer, and never use a floppy at all. TO be safe (since you never know about DOS one-size-fits-all drivers like the Oak Tech ones in common use) you could boot from the CD, then copy all the BIOS related files to the ram drive and do it from there. Since the ram drive method is the recommended one with NTFS systems it should work perfectly.
