i havent used it my self.. but been told it looks just as good as any.. it has Svideo and RCA out.
IMHO TV's look bad.. since thay are so low rez.
if you'v ever used TVout you know what i mean.
it should be the same quality as a AGP geforce 2 with TVout..

MSI K7N420 Pro SoundMax CNR Card
I have recently purchased a computer that uses the Msi K7N420 Pro
motherboard. It came with a CNR card made by Soundmax, which has
no documentation. When I plugged my Klipsch Promedia 5.1 speakers
into it I ended up with only the front two speakers working. (I tested on Star
Wars Episode I, and Shrek. Both use Dolby Digital 5.1) I have all my WindowsXP
home settings at 5.1 sound, and I have refitted the card multiple times
with no luck, as well as updating all the drivers and the bios to the
latest. When I run the setup program for the card (found my browsing
the MSI CD) I get a message that says something to the extent of
"Driver not detected, please reboot and try again." I decided to
search Windows to see if it is detecting the card and I came up with
no results. I dont think that the plug and play is picking it up.
I am wondering if this CNR card has a jumper setting on it, or something
I can do to it to get it work. I'm pretty sure the problem lies either
in the card or in the slot that it fits into. Please Help!!!I switched the output to Stereo instead of dolby surround (Like I had done a thousand times before) and this time it worked!! On that 6channel audio file all six channels were working. I then tested it in Shrek (the only DVD sitting near my CD right now) and the center didnt seem to be firing but the rears were working so i'm sure its just the movie. Thanks a lot!!
I'm also wondering about the SPDIF. My speakers do not have an SPDIF in on them, but if I connect my motherboard to my CNR with the SPDIF will it improve at all? Thanks again!! -
Is there any information and/or drivers for setting up the SoundMax card that goes in the CNR slot on this motherboard?
Thanks,

No onboard sound- MSI k7n420 Pro after installing ATiI 9700 pro
I'm not sure if this has been answered previously.
I just installed an ATI 9700 pro on my MSI K7N420 Pro. Video card works great, but sound is absent after installing vid card.
In device manager shows yellow marks on nforce audio codec interface and nforce midi Uart. The former says: NtKern.vxd device loader for this device could not load the device driver. THe latter says: This device is either not present,, not working properly, or does not have all drivers installed.
I tried reinstalling the drivers using the windows files present in system, but nothing changed.
I'm not sure what to do next.
Any help would be appreciated.

win98Hi,
Win98 - SE? Although this board (K7N420) works fine with Win 98 it can have driver issues (although, it's that long since I installed it - I can't remember what they were!). An upgrade to XP (Pro if possible) should be at the top of your Xmas list - then issues such as the one you're having should be a thing of the past
The card will work with DirectX 8 but as far as I know the 9700 is fully DirectX 9 compatible - so you should really install it as it enables more features.
You can find your BIOS version on the initial boot screen!
Have you any IRQ conflicts? - Check device manager.
Is PNP OS enabled in your BIOS? if so disable it and see what happens. Also Enable APIC! (BIOS)

K7N420 pro MSI 6952 TV-Out Riser Card troubles
just wondering if anyone has gotten the MSI 6952 TV-Out Riser Card to go with their K7N420 pro motherboard and if so how do you get it to work as ive tried for months on end and i still have many failed attempts at getting it to function
It is your drivers. You need to get the 29.XX series of detonator drivers and use those to get tv-out to function.
I had a K7N420 and a tv-out card... long dead, exploded caps. I recall that the last version of the detonators that worked for sure was the 29.20s. I experience the same difficulty with my geforce3 Ti500 and the new drivers... no tv-out signal as the drivers cannot seem to detect the presence of a tv on the other end of the svideo cable.
Try it out and see if it works -

K7N420 Pro -- RAM issues -- won't boot/crashes
System info:
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1900+
Motherboard Model: K7N420 Pro
Memory: (Varying, this is the problem, explained in post: but to begin with the system had 2 modules of 256MB PC2100 266mHz. Brand name unknown, some generic manufacturer. For reference's sake, the motherboard has THREE memory slots)
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce2 Integrated GPU, GeForce2 Integrated GPU, 32MB
Hard Drive: Western Digital 80GB
Other cards: None that I know of
Operating System: Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Power Source: Addtronics 300w (3.3v/18a, 5v/30a, 12v/9a)
Okay, so obviously we've got an old, old beast here.... But she's served me well, and I'd like to get a little more out of her. So here's the ongoing (very long, I'm sorry) saga:
The computer started doing crashing on me some time ago; lots of Blue Screens of Death, no error messages that gave me anything reliable to use for diagnostic purposes. Eventually it just wouldn't even manage to boot, each time would give me a BSOD. I opened the case up, checked for anything obviously visually wrong (blown capacitors etc), did a good thorough aircan dusting, popped out the two 256MB chips (let us call them Chip and Dale), and popped them back in.
This did indeed have a result- now we didn't even make it to the BSOD! All I got was a repeated ominous beeping and nothing coming onto the monitor at all. I then tried to put in only one chip at a time. Results: Chip works in slots #1 and #2, but not #3; Dale works not at all. (By "works" I mean the computer boots normally and runs normally, for at least an hour, the most I've tested it. Runs SLOW, of course, at 256MB, but runs. By "not works" I mean we get nothing on-screen, and the repeated ominous beeping.)
I presumed I had bad memory on my hands with Dale and that I needed new memory anyways, so I headed to Fry's and picked up two sticks of Patriot 512MB PC2100 DDR 266mHz-- the same specs as the old memory, excepting that it is 512MB instead of the 256. (According to Crucial.com, my motherboard's slots should each be able to support 512MB.) Let's call the Patriot 512 chips Bill and Ted.
Results with the new memory: Neither will work in slot #3. Logic dictates slot #3 is bad. Bill will work in slot #1 or slot #2. Ted will work only in slot #1. The computer will NOT boot if both Bill and Ted are occupying slots. (It also won't boot if Chip is occupying a slot and either Bill or Ted are in another slot.)
(Doesn't this sound like like one of those old logic problems where you have to sort out who owns which house?)
So the best I can get out of her right now is to stick Bill or Ted into slot #1 and proceed with the same 512MB that Chip and Dale used to give me back when they cooperated. However, new wrinkle: neither Bill nor Ted will get along with the computer for anything more than about a half-hour-- then, the computer crashes, tries to auto-reboot, and starts doing Black Screen and Ominous Beeping again. The RAM has to be popped out and put back in before it will boot normally.
*deep breath* I know that was long, thanks to anybody who read this far. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing these problems and/or how to fix it? I've reached the end of all the knowledge I can put to work on this problem.
If I haven't been clear on anything, please let me know, I'll try to answer.Hello,
Are you 100% sure that slot 3 is clean/dust free?
Memtest is a program that writes patterns to the memory.
The program then tries to recall the pattern(data) stored in the memory location.
If the memory is faulty the pattern(data) may have altered (goes corrupt) and the program will report an error.
Use just 1 stick at a time in slot 1.
Patriot Bill, let memtest run for say 3 hours.
If everything is ok you will not see any errors on the screen.
Then turn off and remove patriot Bill.
Insert patriot Ted into slot 1.
Run memtest again for 3 hours.
Again if everything is ok after the 3 hours it means that both Bill and Ted are ok. -
I'm writing to this forum to seek your advice. I am experiencing the BSOD and BKSOD problems.

SOME FACTS
I have had bios 2.2 to 2.7 and currently using 2.7
I have tried the components above as a bare bones system, as a full blown system, and every combination in between.
Have have windows 2000 and XP, as well as WinME.
Swapped memory to test compatability.
Also for testing have tried Gforce 2 (brand not remembered) MX-200 with 64mb
Disabled Onboard Audio, Video and LAN seperately and together and combinations.
Could gaurantee pc to BSOD whenever It wanted to. Still does. Do believe certain combination of drivers/BIOS affect the stability.
PIO mode problem with ltr24102b if using ATA card, but not in a different machine.
SYMPTOMS
BSOD - During gameplay (NOLF2 Demo, Dungeon Keeper 1 unpatched, Diablo2 and Lord of Destruction as examples, not just the latest games)
One of the BSOD errors was IRQ not equal thing, another was it thought my agp card was a cause and shut me down. NV4disp. Have tried multiple detonator drivers
BkSOD - During Dungeon keeper 1 it black screned me.
During installation of windows XP I have been getting BSOD errors. This was when reset the BIOS to default.
Note: bios 2.2 default did not allow HDD smart to be enable, or it would not even make my monitor light go green, had to reset bios (power off thing)
Even get BSOD errors with not playing games. For example moving files from 1 directory to another, etc
CONCLUSION
As a father with 6 childen and a very limited budget, all my compute componets were purchased through frugal saving, buying secondhand (from people who looked after their hardware), and from money from presents.
Apparently Nvidia are going to release board drivers to help with the problem.
I do not have internet access at home as It is a luxury, and this means to access drivers/etc I have to pay at access points, or ask a friend a favour.
This has been ongoing since date of purchase, and am really sick of it.
Have read to forums and until now have not stated my problems.
In my opinion it is not about people who have a working nforce, but about the ones who don't!
The customer may not be king, but they should feel like they are.
I bought an MSI board based upon reliability, strength and performance, which I hope is true! MSI, take notice of me. I am just a user of your hardware who wants it to work.
CraigWell, I realise your post was a statement of fact not a request for help 8o or maybe it was, but I missed the asking bit )
Have you considered seeking a RMA for the board???, as a person on limited means you sure have a lot of things stuck on the mobo, not to mention I can't really see when you have a video card attached or not - still as I say your 'statement' will more than likely be read by MSI altthough to be certain they get your message I'd suggest you email them.
Not many here have things like 3 optical drives and 'marginal PSU' but then again I would find it hard to pick if you suffered from brown outs due to equipment loads - anyway good luck with it, your right nVidia has taken notice and said it's their problem not MSI so a fix for those unfortunates is on it's way -

IDE HD and the BIOS -- K7N420-PRO
Hi,
My computer was running great for a long time, and then one of the hard drives stoped working. Well, when I say stoped working I mean that I can not 'see' it in windows. Further investigagion lead me to the BIOS where is is autodetected as a hard drive MUCH smaller than it is, thus not allowing it to be seen by the OS.
I have found the Sectors/PreComp/LandingZone information, and have not been able to figure out how to input it into the system in the BIOS. Not sure if there is a problem with my BIOS, or that is now a 'feature' of modern motherboards.
Any other ideas GREATLY appreciated.

K7N420 Pro v.1.0 - No support for anything over 100Mhz FSB
I have the MSI K7N420 Pro v.1.0 and I've tried 3 different known good CPUs in this board. (2 Athlon XP 1700+ and 1 Athlon 1.2ghz). Both Athlon XPs are designated: AX1700DMT3C, while the 1.2Ghz is designated A1200AMS3C. I tried several different memory modules from 128MB to 512MB individually and in pairs / and in one memory slot at a time or side-by-side slots. And two PSUs: 1 250W Enlight and a 500W "off brand". I have 1 IDE hard drive and 1 CD ROM. I was able to install Windows once, using one of the 1700+, but then realized that it only registered as a 1100Ghz. Went into the BIOS and changed it to the proper setting (133/266/66) and it registered as the 1700+. But soon after the boot the system just goes black and halts. After a long diagnosis (and updating the BIOS), I've found that when I raise the FSB setting to anything over 100Mhz, the motherboard can't handle it. What is that all about? Is this motherboard FUBAR or what?
The high temp. is partly because of the fast memory. It can however get bettered with a reseating of the processor, or rather a better processor heat sink & fan (HSF).
Before you give up, try this:
Reseating time
You need:
a star shaped, Philips screwdriver, and an ordinary flat one
strong, preferably chemical alcohole and/or Acetonic
a tuss of cotton
clean, preferably dust free cloths
thermal grease, preferably Arctic Silver
good light and a large kitchen table
some patience
a vacuum cleaner, preferably reversible, or a can of compressed air is not bad.
Pull the power cable out, and disconnect mouse, keyboard and such cables from the rear.
Put the case with the open side up on the kitchen table or similar. Have a newspaper under to prevent scratches.
Disconnect all cabling and possible AGP- and PCI-cards from the motherboard. It isn't absolutely necessary, but you might as well take the memory out too, as it will give you more freedom later.
With a philips screwdriver /star shaped/ unfasten the motherboard. When lifting it out I normally use the heat sink. Lift slowly.
Put the motherboard beside the case on something a bit soft, a cloth or a thick newspaper. Use an ordinary, flat, screwdriver to unfasten the heat sink. You push a clip down, and when that is loose it's easy to lift the heat sink off.
Clean both the bottom of the heat sink and the processor chip from old thermal grease. This is important! Strong alcohole and oil free Acetonic and a tuss(?) of cotton are good for this. After the cleaning, dry with a clean cloth.
If it is possible, use high-pressure air to blow the heat sink fins free of dust.
Make a note of the model no. on the processor.
Put the processor back on. Add a small drop of new thermal grease on the very chip of the processor. The drop might be half the size of a corn of rice. Spread it out with a plastic card: American Express Gold.
Make a virtual seating of the heat sink, so you are sure where to finally fasten the clip.
This might sound like a major task, but when prepared you'll do it in about fifteen minutes.
Before putting the motherboard back, you might have a look to see if the case needs some dry cleaning. Also have a look at the PSU and the cards. Don't use anything than air.
Here is some additional, illustrated, guidance:

Hi,
I am trying to help a friend whose graphics card has bust.
The old one was an ATI RADEON 9800 PRO-(256MB)-MAC EDITION.
I've been looking on ebay and it seems a lot cheaper to get a Mac ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb Video Card For G4/G5.
Can I just swap them over? The connectors are not identical according to the photographs.
Thanks.I'd like to thank everyone for all the really useful information in this thread. It helped me solve a similar problem, which I'll describe here briefly in case it helps someone else.
I have a 2004/5 dual 2 Ghz PowerPC G5 and an Apple Cinema HD display linked, as I later found out, with the now defunct ADC connector. The display suddenly started to look like that scene in The Matrix, when code falls like rain down the screen, and I worked out I needed to replace my Radeon 9800 pro video card (I discovered the board was blue when I removed a thick layer of dust).
I took japamac's excellent advice and bought a Geforce 6800 Ultra from the linked eBay seller in Hong Kong, who delivered it extremely quickly, along with the cables to plug it into the DVD drive power source and a CD with installation instructions. It was only then that I realised the card had two DVI connectors and my display needed ADC (I hadn't understood the difference).
eBay came to the rescue again with a seller who had a secondhand DVI to ADC adapter, which Apple produced when it phased out ADC about six years ago but no longer sells. It has its own power supply and looks like a large version of the Mac laptop power cables - and has added signifcantly to the pile of spaghetti under my desk.
Installing the Geforce 6800 Ultra is fiddly, and a bit scary if you're not used to delving into the insides of a Mac, but the instructions were clear and illustrated with useful photos. The video cable has four connectors. Two fit into the end of the card, the other two (linked in a Y shape) form a bridge between the DVD/superdrive and its power cable. You have to remove the DVD drive, unplug it, and then plug one of the two Y video card connectors into the DVD power cable and the other into the DVD drive itself. Then you replace the DVD drive, plug the two remaining cable connectors to the video card and ease it into the old card's AGP slot.
Finally, with the G5 reassembled, plug the adapter's DVI connection into the back of the card, plug the Cinema Display ADC cable into the adapter block, plug the adapter's USB cable into the G5 (this enables the the USB ports on the back of the display to work), and power up.
At the time of writing, the display has been up and running for a couple of hours and all seems fine.
Thanks again everyone for all your help and advice. If it wasn't for communities like this, it would be virtually impossible to solve problems with old but still serviceable Macs. -
