K7N420 Pro v.1.0 - No support for anything over 100Mhz FSB

I have the MSI K7N420 Pro v.1.0 and I've tried 3 different known good CPUs in this board.  (2 Athlon XP 1700+ and 1 Athlon 1.2ghz).  Both Athlon XPs are designated: AX1700DMT3C, while the 1.2Ghz is designated A1200AMS3C.  I tried several different memory modules from 128MB to 512MB individually and in pairs / and in one memory slot at a time or side-by-side slots.  And two PSUs: 1 250W Enlight and a 500W "off brand".  I have 1 IDE hard drive and 1 CD ROM.  I was able to install Windows once, using one of the 1700+, but then realized that it only registered as a 1100Ghz.  Went into the BIOS and changed it to the proper setting (133/266/66) and it registered as the 1700+.  But soon after the boot the system just goes black and halts.  After a long diagnosis (and updating the BIOS), I've found that when I raise the FSB setting to anything over 100Mhz, the motherboard can't handle it.  What is that all about?  Is this motherboard FUBAR or what?

The high temp. is partly because of the fast memory. It can however get bettered with a reseating of the processor, or rather a better processor heat sink & fan (HSF).
Before you give up, try this:
Reseating time
You need:
a star shaped, Philips screwdriver, and an ordinary flat one
strong, preferably chemical alcohole and/or Acetonic
a tuss of cotton
clean, preferably dust free cloths
thermal grease, preferably Arctic Silver
good light and a large kitchen table
some patience
a vacuum cleaner, preferably reversible, or a can of compressed air is not bad.
Pull the power cable out, and disconnect mouse, keyboard and such cables from the rear.
Put the case with the open side up on the kitchen table or similar. Have a newspaper under to prevent scratches.
Disconnect all cabling and possible AGP- and PCI-cards from the motherboard. It isn't absolutely necessary, but you might as well take the memory out too, as it will give you more freedom later.
With a philips screwdriver /star shaped/ unfasten the motherboard. When lifting it out I normally use the heat sink. Lift slowly.
Put the motherboard beside the case on something a bit soft, a cloth or a thick newspaper. Use an ordinary, flat, screwdriver to unfasten the heat sink. You push a clip down, and when that is loose it's easy to lift the heat sink off.
Clean both the bottom of the heat sink and the processor chip from old thermal grease. This is important! Strong alcohole and oil free Acetonic and a tuss(?) of cotton are good for this. After the cleaning, dry with a clean cloth.
If it is possible, use high-pressure air to blow the heat sink fins free of dust.
Make a note of the model no. on the processor.
Put the processor back on. Add a small drop of new thermal grease on the very chip of the processor. The drop might be half the size of a corn of rice. Spread it out with a plastic card: American Express Gold.
Make a virtual seating of the heat sink, so you are sure where to finally fasten the clip.
This might sound like a major task, but when prepared you'll do it in about fifteen minutes.
Before putting the motherboard back, you might have a look to see if the case needs some dry cleaning. Also have a look at the PSU and the cards. Don't use anything than air.
Here is some additional, illustrated, guidance:

  • IWeb protocol support for anything OTHER than http and https

I am extremely disappointed in iWeb. It doesn't even seem to be able to do very simple things.
All I want to do is to create HTML links to external pages with protocols other than "http" and "https" and it always prepends "http" to the beginning of the URL. This is really really really annoying.
Apple I hope you are paying attention. iWeb is poorly designed. You are trying to anticipate what end users want...this is a development practice right from the Microsoft Windows Developer book. I sure how the next update to iWeb works properly. I'm so upset about all this...I can't publish podcasts to the web because of all the foolishness with how you handle that, and the confusing directory name issues.
My podcast URL looks like this:
    http://itpc://www.mysite.com/podcast/News/rss.xml
I tried (unsuccesfully) to manually create the podcast since the automated version created this:
    itpc://www.bradyconsult.com/podcast/podcast/News/rss.xml
I'm sure I could fiddle with iWEb and get this to work, but why should I? I've already fiddled with it and simple changes to my site structure totally screw this up. Not to mention, that when it did work, it didn' t even post all my podcasts!!! It skipped the first one and the last one.
And, for those wondering, i'm not technically clueless. I have a podcast working just fine on two other sites. The appeal to iLife with iWeb and the new podcast feature of GarageBand was to bring all this together in one easy to use, nice package. But it's not nice. Garageband's update is awesome! But iWeb and it's attempts to work with the other iApps is gruesome.
I expect this garbage from Microsoft...not Apple.
Can anyone recommend a workaround (and yes, I understand I can manually edit HTML...but I was hoping for a workaround within iWeb) to create html links with support for protocols (aside from http and https) ??
It's bad enough I have to publish to a folder and then FTP to my site since apple makes that exceedingly difficult to do (I'm sure to increase .mac sales) but all this other foolishness is just bunk. I feel ripped off on my iLife '06 purchase.
    Grrrrrrr......
    G5 Dual 2.3 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I don't know if this helps you any, but in my humble
opinion Drake is absolutely correct. iWeb really
wasn't designed for the pro site builder; it's just
an entry level site builder. Moreover, it isn't
really geared for the professional world of internet
marketing; I think it is really more for the home
and family group who have at least one thing in
    common: Macs.
I don't think it was even designed for them. I mean, you can't create an ftp: link, you can't manage multiple site files, there's no way to add "aim:" or "yahoo:" links, etc. It's not mac's they're supporting. It's .mac in particular, maybe, if that.
The art is kinda nice, but really, the grief in trying to do simple things like a basic href is just absurd. I can do these things easily in Pages. iWeb should certainly be no more difficult.
Btw, I'm here because I have the same problem - overly restrictive URL's on hyperlinks. I'll probably solve my with a trivial sed script. But even that's tough because they mangle the url. It's not easy to find an encoding suitable for automatic post processing.
    Automator anyone?

  • Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013) and support for two external monitor

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro Retina 13" (Late 2013) and are looking to buy two DELL U2414 monitors. But after searching the web i´m a little bit confused if my MBPr will actually supports connecting two montors from one single Display port.
I will be using this montors at work where I use my MBPr with Windows7 (Paralllels).
I want to set up these two monitors with extended desktop not mirroring. The reason of using just one DP on my MBPr is that the other one is used by my wired ethernet connection. Will this work under OSX10.9.2 or 10.9.3?. Does my MBPr 13" support DP1.2a MST that is needed for daisy chain multiple monitors?

The hardware supports DP1.2 and MST but unfortunately at present OS X Mavericks does not.

    Hi mate
First of all thanks a lot
Ive got a U400 and I have installed a Intel graphic card driver from the Intel page too.
I didnt execute the exe file but I updated my driver in device manager.
    This worked fine.
Also I read here in the forum that drivers from external pages can be used only at the own risk because such drivers are not tested and not certified by Toshiba
However, my U400 run trouble free till now.

  • BT Infinity - Home User - No Support for anything ...

I was disgusted with BT support today as a home user, apparently they only support HTTP traffic, if you have problem with any other protocol, it's nothing to do with them. Firstly below is a typical speed test result for my line over the past week :-
Download speedachieved during the test was - 73.57 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 12 Mbps-0 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 77.43 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 17.07Mbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps
As you can see, no problems there ..... or so it would seem.
My problem is with NNTP Newsgroups. I pay for a newsgroup service, and my speeds over Infinity in the past 2 years have just been fine, alway maxing out my connection, whatever that might be at the time, depending on network loading, but usually in excess of 55 Mbits and I have been happy with it.
Around a week ago at about 12:30 AM, my speed dropped to around 7 Mbits. After rebooting PC, router, etc. with no change of speed, I assumed it to be a temporary fault or problem. Here I am today with the same problem, with highly variable NNTP speeds, but with ALL other protocols working fine at full speed, e.g http, ftp
Today my NNTP was generally under 1 Mbit, with little peaks to 2 Mbits, one short peak to 10Mbits, and a 60 second peak to 68 Mbits, before falling back into the under 1 Mbit range.
    Things I have done :-
Tested on 2 operating systems (Windows 7 x64 Pro and Windows 8 x64 Pro)
    Tested on 2 Routers
Tested on 2 pieces of premium Newsgroup software
Tested with 2 premium newsgroup providers (signing up for a trial account with the 2nd one)
Tested with firewall on and off (disabling loading on boot)
Tested with HTTP and FTP downloads
EDIT: Forgot to mention ports so I have added here to save anyone skipping fwd 2 posts
This is across all available ports and whether SSL is used or not.
    SSL - 563, 443, 8080, 80, 81
    STD - 119, 23, 25, 7000, 8000, 9000, 3128
I still have the mostly very low NNTP speeds, but full speed with other services.
After getting no joy with customer services in India, who didn't know what NNTP is, I spoke to technical support today, which is a premium service which I am charged for ..... don't know why!
They told me that newgroups is essentially a 'business' service, so they don't provide support. I said that it's standard network protocol just like ftp, http, pop3, emap etc. and for some reason it doesn't appear to be working correctly. I was told that I could submit a line speed fault, to which I replied that if I do that, BT will ask me to do the standard speed test which I assume is http, and I know that is working OK. I was told that in that case, there is nothing they can do.
I said, hold on, I have a website on a web server, and if I had trouble using ftp to to upload or download from that web server, would you help? No, I was told, we do not support FTP ....... eh?
So this means that I pay for other internet services, services that are transmitted across the BT network, but BT doesn't help or test if there is a problem with one of the standard protocols. For all I know NNTP could now be shaped by BT (I don't think that it is).
The high variabilty of the speeds, and that they tend to be on the very low side, says to me that some sort of network error maybe effecting that protocol .......... but I can get no help whatsoever, like it or lump it.
Any ideas anyone, as I have already had one week of wait and see, and there is no improvment. I don't want to lose NNTP, but I am not willing to pay for a premuim service that I cannot use, especially when BT Infinity unlimited is a premium service in itself.
BTW if BT still had their old FUP, I would still be well within their old fair usage limits.
    Cheers

    Hi
    Thanks for the link.
Yes, I read that thread earlier in the week, when I was researching whether they introduced shaping on NNTP.
As bittorrent is raised in the thread and whether news should be shaped or not (not my concern), I avoided posting in that thread.
I don't think it is shaping, because the speed is just too variable. I have been with the same news provider for 5 years or so. All through my ASDL 1, and ASDL 2 times, and with now Infinity for the past 2 years. I cannot see a reason why I have always been maxed out over that whole period (barring minor variabilty), that I should suddenly drop to between a 1/10th and 1/70th for most of the time, with sudden peaks that often drop away just as suddenly. That looks like a fault to me.
If I am sailing away at 68 Mbits, and it drops to 50 Mbits, I don't really care, because I know it will go up and down a bit depending on network loading. Under 10 Mbits and especially 1 Mbit is totally unacceptable (lowest speed of the day - 7 kbits)

  • MST Support for MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 - DisplayPort 1.2 - Will it ever happen? (with sources)

So back in October, I purchased a brand new Macbook Pro Retina (MBPr), fully loaded with top of the line specs.  I was soooo excited to have Thunderbolt 2 tech which Intel AND Apple describes as having DisplayPort 1.2a compatibility - which up to this point is unfortunately NOT the case.  The point of the information/questions and requests in this article is to engage a conversation about the issues of not having MST support after Apple falsely mislead their consumers to think otherwise - especially when it is clear the MBPr is capable.  Please read on...
Apple advertises that the Thunderbolt 2 ports on BOTH the MBPr and the new Mac Pro (NMP) will have 4K Display support with the famed 20gb/sec Ports (DisplayPort 1.2 only requires a little above 17gb/sec).  Now that the 10.9.1 update has been released, we have failed to see MST or Multi-Stream Transport enabled on the MBPr Late 2013.  Now, as for the New Mac Pro- it DOES have MST enabled in 10.9.1 with the AMD GPUs.  For all of you out there that's questioning what this means, short answer is basically the Mac Pro will be able to power a 4K Monitor at 60Hz through the Thunderbolt 2 Port but the New MBPr is stuck with only HDMI 1.4 support which tops out at 4K 30Hz. 30Hz is unacceptable for anything but movies or a photo slideshow.  At 30Hz the cursor will jump across the screen, eliminating any of the benefits of 4K.
    BUT it gets worse...
Apple can be seen advertising that the new MBPr 15" model can power a 4K monitor THROUGH the Thunderbolt 2 Port here: http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt - This article quotes the following:
"Now with Thunderbolt 2 built into the new Mac Pro and MacBook Pro with Retina display, you can connect the latest 4K desktop displays and get double the bandwidth for your peripherals. And the two generations of Thunderbolt technology are compatible with each other."
Does this not let the consumer assume that the newest MBPr will be able to drive a 4K display through the Thunderbolt 2 Port?  I would say yes it does, but at the time I wrote this, the TB2 Ports can't power a 4K display because, as previously stated, MST is disabled in Mavericks for the 15" MBPr Late 2013.
NOW, later on Apple posted the following article on 4K support here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6008
4K support on the MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013)
MacBook Pro supports 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs at the following resolutions and refresh rates with the built-in HDMI port:
    3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz refresh rate
4096 x 2160 at 24 Hz refresh rate (mirroring is not supported at this resolution)
In the article above the New Mac Pro is listed as having support for a 4K Display with the Thunderbolt 2 Port (or MST DisplayPort 1.2a Technology) at 60Hz with no problem.  This leads myself and many others to believe that MST will NEVER be enabled on the newest MacBook Pro Retina with Nvidia GPUs. Yes, 4K IS supported but ONLY through the HDMI 1.4 port, which has the limitation of only 30hz.  This two-faced advertising is extremely upsetting to a LOT of people, including myself.
Interestingly enough, THIS IS NOT a hardware issue.  If one ventures into Windows 8.1 via Bootcamp and connects a 4K Display via the Thunderbolt 2 (or through DP1.2) Port, the Display registers at 60Hz, thus proving that the Thundberbolt 2 Hub Controller is completely capable of MST DisplayPort functionality.  Clearly this a driver issue with Apple, Nvidia or Intel or any combination.  What Apple has done here is forcing any professional that desires stable and clear 4K technology through their MacBook Pro Retina to do so only using Windows 8.1 on their own machines!  Definitely an oxymoron if you ask me...
Later on when the Mac Pro was ready for ordering, Apple placed the Sharp PN-K321 as a compatible option for a 4K Display.  On the Store page featuring the (over three thousand dollar) Sharp 4K display, located here http://store.apple.com/us/product/HD971LL/A/sharp-32-pn-k321-4k-ultra-hd-led-mon itor?fnode=53 Apple states the following:
"Note that 4K DisplayPort operation is only compatible with the new Mac Pro (Late 2013)."
All of that being said, and I'm terribly sorry for my wordy ranting...
This brings me to a final two requests to ANYONE reading this post:
    a) Has anyone working with the new 10.9.2 Beta Update seen evidence that DisplayPort 1.2 capabilities will be enabled for the new MacBook Pro Retina (Nvidia 750M) with the promised "Graphics Driver Updates" within the next Mavericks update?
    and
    b) To others that purchased or were/are thinking of purchasing a new MacBook Pro Retina with TB2 Ports: If you are just as upset as me about this crushing blow to consumers that just purchased a $3,000 laptop that were promised something that wasn't delivered - I urge you please, write to Apple and let them know they are making a mistake.  You can do this though the support page or through http://www.apple.com/feedback
Thank you for your precious time, and if anyone has anything to contribute to this issue, please jump in....

    GOOD NEWS!
The Mavericks 10.9.3 update adds official support for Thunderbolt 2, 4K!
I'm not sure if you will be able to daisy chain anything to the 4K display.  I've read that the design of Thunderbolt 2 includes support for DisplayPort 1.2 multi-stream (MST), which allows this type of daisy chaining with 4K, but we don't know if Apple has this supported on it's machines.  Apparently it's been buggy in development because the graphics driver needs to work correctly with the Thunderbolt 2 host controller.  I'm sure they will work it out if they haven't already.
The above is all via found information on this topic, but you can follow some more discussion here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1713876
One more note on Thunderbolt worth sharing: always keep your fastest peripherals closer to the computer in the chain. If you have a TB1 device directly connected to the computer, anything further down the chain will be limited to TB1 speed/capability regardless of it's native speed.  Always connect TB2 devices first, and save anything TB1 for the end of the chain.

  • Adding support for another Filetype in Acrobat 9.0 Pro Extended

    Hi,
we're using Acrobat 9.0 Pro Extended and have the problem that it is not supporting an filetype which we want to use.
Its a bit strange because it is supporting Solid Edge 3D model files (*.par, *.pwd, *.psm, *.asm) but noth the 2D filetype *.dft we want to use.
Is there any possibility to add support for that?

Try printing to the Adobe PDF printer, the more fundamental process (PDF Maker is a preprocessor for the printer). If that does not work, then try with print-to-file selected. Open the file in Distiller and see if the PDF is created. If the latter happens, then check for AcroTray running in the background. It is required to automate the process and is needed by PDF Maker.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 native support for Canon 5D/7D

So now that the newest version of Premiere Pro will offer native support for HDSLR like the Canon 5D and 7D, does this mean that editing will be much faster??  Meaning, is there no reason now to export to an intermediate codec like Cineform for faster editing because CS5 will be able to edit the h.264 files without lag?  I was just curious as this will make up my decision of upgrading from CS4 to CS5.

Through history, Adobe has promised a lot of things that have:
    - Caused many to experience that it's not so, and therefor a lot of screaming/complaints. Most of which (screaming/complaints) has been because people are doing something that is not correct, or installed stuff that screws things up, and so on.
    - Caused many people to get great benefits from the new features, and they (many people) have computers that they keep clean and follow needed specifications.
    - Sometimes things just don't work, or stop to work (Clip Notes in CS3).
The funny thing is that I have CS3 and edit the video footage from my 7D natively without any problems whatsoever. OK, maybe not quite realtime playback without rendering the timeline, but pretty close. My PC is quite ordinary, Q6600 CPU, 4GB RAM, and 8800GT w/1GB RAM, no over-clocking or special treatments done.
The little extra funny thing is that if I apply MB Looks to my 7D footage, it gets to be more or less realtime playback, probably because Looks forces the GPU to be used.
    Bottom line:
Whatever Adobe promises, you'll have to make sure you have the clean gear for it if you want it to work. Except for that, some just are lucky.

  • Support for Growing files (DNxHD wrapped in MXF) from EVS in Premiere Pro?

We are using Premiere CC Pro on the Mac-plattform against a shared storage soulution. We need to be able to open growing files from an EVS system to edit soccer-highlights while the matches are still playing. The problem is that the codec is DNxHD 120 and the wrapper is MXF op1a. This works fine with a QT-wrapper, but not with a MXF-wrapper. It is not possible for us the change the wrapper on the EVS system, so we need to do something on the editing side. We have tested it, and confirmed that this works fine in Final Cut Pro and Avid, but we want to use Premiere Pro. Can you provide us with a solution? Please do not say that the solution is to use FCP... ;-) Thanks in advance for all help!
