K7n420pro + ME: unknown USB device

Hey,
I have a problem with the USB Contoller. When
I connect my ISDN PABX to the controller, Windows ME just tells: " unknown device". I have the latest CAPI driver from the PABX manufacturer... Connecting an USB mouse makes no problem.
The PABX is ok, it works fine with other system boards(and ME or XP)
Any idea??? IRQ conflict?

Hi Richard,
yes I tried so. Windows: "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware."
I have tried the hints from Microsoft's kb Q142984 - no solution.

  • "Unknown USB Device"

I got my 2GB nano last Monday. I could successfuly install it on my laptop and upload some songs to it. That done, I wrapped it again and gave it to my wife, so she and the kids could "surprise" me for my Birthday. Yesterday I got it,listened to the "sample songs that came with it", and today I tried to upload some more songs, but to no avail. Everytime I plug it in, all I get is an error message from windows, stating "Unknown USB Device". I tried everything from the iPod support site and from Windows help, but the nano simply won't be recognized. Oh, I tried to hook it up to my desktop at home as well, but nada as well. Same message.
Is my cable fried? Is my iPod connector fried? Can someone pinpoint the problem?
To worsen things even further, I live in Brazil, where the first nanos won't be around until Christmas, and support is but a dream...
    Help!
    Ruy

These steps should help you with the 'Unknown USB Device' issue, Ruy:
First, make hidden folders visible. Open My Computer and choose Tools/Folder Options/View tab. Click on 'Show hidden files and folders' and click OK.
In the Add New Hardware Wizard, have it search in C:\windows\inf for usbstor.inf. This file is required for windows to properly configure the driver. If Windows finds the driver there, you're done.
If Windows does not find the proper driver there, copy usbstor.sys from C:\windows\servicepack\i386 to C:\windows\system32\drivers.
If you can't find the usbstor.inf file on your system, you can get it here: usbstor.inf
After copying the usbstor.inf driver file to C:\Windows\inf, right-click on My Computer and choose ‘Manage.'
Click on the button labeled 'Device Manager.'
Click to open the list under 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers.'
Right click on any mass storage devices with the exclamation icon next to them and select 'Update Driver.'
Check the option 'Install from a list or a specific location' and then click to continue.
Check next to 'Include this location in the search' and enter 'C:\windows\inf'.
Click on 'Next' and follow the steps to complete the driver installation wizard.

  • Unknown USB Device when MuVo TX plugged in USB P

The following message came up when I plugged in my MuVo TX in a USB Port
    Using WIndows XP
    USB attached has malfunctioned
    Windows does not recognize it
    Unknown USB Device
Does this mean that I have a faulty player? When I first bought it on January 2 2005
I installed approx 25 songs and it works perfect. Now that I want to change these songs
to new ones, my MuVo TX is not recognized by Windows XP. Tried several other
    computers with same results.
Can any one suggest a fix?
    Thanks

If other PCs are giving the same error, then I think you can be sure the player is at fault somehow.
Have you tried the recovery process? Download the latest driver (if required) and firmware from http://www.nomadworld.com/downloads/drivers. Install the driver file (if required). After you have installed the driver, press and hold the PLAY button, continue holding the button while inserting the player into the USB port for about 0-5 sec. Run the firmware update file and check/tick the 'Format Data Area' check box and click on 'Start'.
If this doesn't help then I think you can be sure the player is faulty.

  • Presario V5094EA, usb device malfunctioned, unknown usb device

product: presario V5094EA running win XP,
hi am having a roblem with the usb ports on my laptop they were working fine up untill two weeks ago when they just decided to stop working,
now every time i plug something in they first find new hardware then it reports back a device has malfunctioned, unknown usb device, whether its a memory stick or my usb modem
i have formatted the hard drive reinstalled all the drivers from the recovery discs,
i even tried the information in an earlier post about disconnecting the battery for a period which i did for half an hour, but got the same response when i connected it all back up.
am beginning to think this could be hardware related does any one have any ideas before i go buy a new motherboard,
the laptop is about 6 years old now so well out of warranty,
    thanks in advance
    alan

It should do a progress reading with percentages. If it ran all the way through and did not say anything was corrupt then I am afraid you have a hardware issue going.

  • Disk won't mount - Unknown USB Device (Link in Compliance Mode)

I have an HP Envy DV7 (dv7-7243cl ) with Windows 8 Pro x64. My Western Digital 2 terabyte My Book USB3.0 external drive periodically won't mount ( sometimes it will, sometimes it won't). The drive has its own power source.
When this happens Windows device manager shows - Unknown USB Device (Link in Compliance Mode). This can happen if the system is up and running and I plug the drive into the USB port or on system startup where the drive is already plugged in.
Any clue how to fix this?
    Other details:
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40GHz
    12 Gig memory
    Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
    System board 181C 52.24
    Bios F.26

Well, the problem is that - as outlined in one of the articles I linked to - some USB devices will not work in Safe Mode; that may have to do with the fact the Safe Mode is only meant to be a troubleshooting tool, not a regular way of booting up. Did you have the USB devices attached while upgrading to 10.6? That would also be a problem - I unplug everything except keyboard and mouse. And, did you repair permissions after the upgrade? If not, do it now.
And, the other problem is the fact that you wait 1 - 2 years before addressing the issue; when you had it in for the last repair and it still exhibited the same problems afterwards, you should would have taken it back, possibly with some screenshots, exact notes of how/when/error messages, etc. and insisted on having it fixed or replaced.
So, I'd run the Apple Hardware Test (after you make sure that you have a complete backup) - instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
Report back with whatever messages you wind up with.

  • How SCCM 2012 compliance function find unknown usb device

As we all know the SCCM get its own compliance DB and can monitor the all device information.
So my scenario is I want to set the USB device with known(permit) and unknown(still permit, but as the admin, I need to know who are using the unknown device).
Any one could give me some advice or procedure what should I do next ?

Do you want to restrict USB drives? If yes, there is a list of recently connected USB drives available in
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR
You can write a Powershell script that enumerates the subkeys there, filters out allowed USB keys (i.e. company provided encrypted ones) and puts the computer into noncompliant state if a nonapproved drive was connected.
If this is about general USB hardware, you can get the list of connected hardware with
gwmi win32_pnpentity | select Name, DeviceID
Of course, there will be thousands of different devices even in a small company, so while you could quite easily blacklist certain devices, building a whitelist will be pretty much an impossible task.

  • Unknown USB Device in Windows - VISA does not see it

    Hello,
I'm trying to connect my STM microcontroller to my computer using USB protocol and VISA software. When I plug STM USB device into USB port Windows sees it as unknown device and can not find any driver for it. I assume that this is situation VISA was created for. So I want to use a driver wizard to create driver for this device, but VISA does not display it in a device list. I tried to create and install driver for my device as if it was not connected, and installed created driver manually but it did not work.
Is it possible that Windows detects a USB device and VISA can't see it?

It actually depends what sort of USB device it should be. If it is a COMM USB class device, Windows should be able to pick it up directly as serial port, if it is some proprietary USB class, then you either have to get a driver installed and access that driver somehow, or create an INF file with the VISA driver wizard for it and write the driver yourself in LabVIEW using the VISA USB Raw interface. Without a very good description of the low level USB protocol however this last option is a complete no go.
If the VISA driver wizard doesn't display the device in the list then Windows has already claimed it somehow.

  • Internal web cam does not work and unknown usb device pops up

I have had my Pavillion DV6 1230us laptop now for about 7 years now and it was working great untill last year. When the lap top comes out of sleep mode or I restart the computer the " unkown device" balloon pops up. I have tried the following fixes, un-installing all the usb devices and did a reboot, I removed the main battery and held the power button for 2 minutes and re-installed it , I have re-installed the webcam drivers from HP and even removed and installed  the small mother board battery with no sucess. When the " unknown device " balloon pops up I can hear an audio prompt like I am plugging and un-plugging a usb device in one of the ports but I am just watching and hearing the problem happening.

    Hey Scotman,
The Webcam would not be listed as USB device as it is built into the Notebook. Do you have anything connected USB? What do you see in device manager for your Image devices? Here is a video on Webcam. I am not sure if anything will help you in it or not. If you remove all USB devices in the device manager and remove all USB cords from the computer the balloon should not appear on restart.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Ipod showing up as "unknown usb device"

I'm betting this is the same problem as "windows doesn't recognize my ipod" but I wanted to make sure. I got the nano for christmas, successfully uploaded happilly to it for a few weeks and lately my computer keeps saying "the usb device has malfunctioned" and it can't identify it as an ipod. An apple store already restored the thing, it works on other computers, but still not on mine. I followed the instructions for turning iff power saving on the usb hub when using a laptop and that fixed the problem for exactly one day. Now it's useless again.
    Anyone got a suggestion?

i've encountered the same..try reseting your ipod...discon it..then hold both menu and center button until ipod turns off and the apple logo appears...wait for 5 sec... then insert it again..see what happens...or transfer it to another port...u should have 2 ports there..or are you using a 1.1 usb port? naturally most pc does not recognize if it is a 1.1 usb port..try installing the suggested 2.0 card installer...good luck!..

Ok. Lets work on the webcam and DVD issue first. Have they just recently stopped working? If so I would try restoring the computer from a previous backup point. What operating system are you using?

  • 2G Nano-USB Device Not Recognized message

2G Nano has been sitting for months. Decided to use it as a backup. When connected to computer (tried on 4 different computers running iTunes) I get a "USB Device Not Recognized" message. It shows up in "Device Manager" as an "Unknown USB Device" not an "iPod". Have performed the required 5 Rs and it still will not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This did not work for me. I have a laptop that was running Windows XP, and it had no problems recognizing the iPod. I was having problems with XP, and rather then reinstall XP, I did a clean install of Vista. I did a settings transfer, so the new install of iTunes came already configured--I mention this since I don't know if it was a factor.
When I plugged in the iPod, I got the USB Device Not Recognized. The usbstor.inf file did not fix the problem. However, the solution at http://www.winvistabeta.com/groups/275128/ipod-usb-device-not-recognized/message .aspx did fix the problem. Do this:
    Reset the iPod:
    1. Unplug the iPod.
    2. Turn the hold switch to HOLD and then back to off.
    3. Hold the Center and Menu buttons for 6 seconds until you get the Apple logo when you release them.
    4. Plug in the iPod. It should now be recognized.
This worked fine for me the first time. Thanks! Jack

  • ZEN MICRO PHOTO USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNI

help !! i am also having a problem similar to your and just about everyone elses on here. I just purchased a zen microphoto for xmas a month ago and it has been a nightmare . it has worked for about a month perfectly then it ceased to be recognized by? my Alienware area 5 desktop system which previously recognized it fine. I took all of the steps and scanned all of the forums then realized that after uninstalling my windows media player and rolling back to 0 it began to be recognized again. well then surprisingly and maybe not so much so after looking at so many of the post of these forums. Well I have taken so many steps to try to get my ZEN MICRO PHOTO to once again become recognized by my computer? and yet again all efforts have been fruitless. I reformated my ZEN MICROPHOTO?and now when i plug it in a small window pops up at the bottom stating that the USB DEVICE IS NOT RECOGNIZED . I then cannot upload new firmware and can in fact do absolutely nothing but gaze at the player which boots up then fades to black while my pc sees my player as an unknown usb device. I even reformated the pc for the sake of the player , cutting off the nose despite the face in other words and still no dice. I have windows xp service pack 2 , all updates and bios up to date. My pc is only 2 years old and have a lexmark printer? a mouse and a keyboard attched to it , none of which create conflict. Even after reformatting my pc i made sure my player was one of the first peripherial devices connected and all to no avail. I think this is a disgrace that such a compnay as CREATIVE cannot put foward a quality product. Does anyone out there have any solid suggestions on how to fix this proiblem if so they would be gretaly apprecaited. ThanksEdward

vacantmind: You might also want to make sure that you get the latest drivers and software as follows:
. Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03
    2. Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
    3. Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource
Install . then connect the player to the PC. Then install 2. and 3. (the player must be connected for 2. to verify you have a Creative product).
Also an important test is to install the drivers and software on another PC, say a friend's, and see whether you have the problem. If you don't, then the issue is with your PC, or a compatibility issue with the player. If you do, then there's something wrong with the cable or player.

  • Computer says usb device malfunction

I have a new 16 gb ipod touch bought today ,tried to connect to computer via usb .but computer says device has malfunctioned and computer not recognize it i have tried to restore the ipod and also reinstalled itunes .also checked and restarted AMDS ,HELP what is going on Please

Try this. With your iPod plugged into the usb go to device manager and see if you see a yellow question mark next to and unknown usb device. If you do right click and choose to uninstall the device. Then unplug your iPod and reboot your computer and plug back in your iPod. This is assuming you have Windows. Hope this helps.
