K7ns delta platinum 2 bios cell settings

Dear list,
I dont understand the relationshiop between these figures, the top cpu value which is 2200 so an amd 3200 barton, and the dram clock speed. is this the speed of the ram ???.
When I set the fsb/dram frequency ratio to 1:1 I get a dram speed of 200, now I have ddr3200 and that should be 400 at boot shouldt it ???.
as as my freq is set to 200mhz and my cpu ratio is 11, so do I set my fsm:dram ration to 1:2 so the ram is running at 400mhz ???.
I have disables high performance mode, dynamic overclocking, set cpu interface to aggresive, set memory timings to manual. I have a unlocked barton 2500 xp which is running as a 3200 and I have set the voltage on the cpu at 1.725v, and all is ok at 200 mhz,
question I am reading the bios the right way ????.
cheers
brummie

Hello,
The memory uses a technology called DDR.
A DDR frequency sends twice on every clock cycle.
So a DDR frequency compared to a non-DDR is twice as fast.
So you could say that a 200Mhz frequency with DDR is like having a 400Mhz frequency without DDR.
That is exactly how it works.
Everywhere says DDR400 or 400FSB DDR.
What they really mean is, 200Mhz with DDR.
So the CPU is 200Mhz FSB and the Memory is 200Mhz (actual frequency) but with DDR technology.

Thanks in advance

Well I play alot of games and considered my new pc pretty good. So I installed Championship Manager 2003/04 and on my old athlonXP 2000 system it ran pretty slow, so I thought with my new system it should be alot better. So I defragged, scan disk, got the latest patches for it, got ready for some action and it still runs slow!. I installed call of duty and various other games and the peformance increase isnt much better to be honest. So I decided to install 3dmark 2001 se and see what kind of scores im getting. I was getting 12000 before I started this thread and now im getting 14000 after I did the ratio to 1.1.
But other people using the same processor ,ram etc.. same drivers and same spec machines as me are getting 17000 + scores and I'm trying to at least get over 15000 .
And Im not entirely sure if my BIOS settings were correct as it is the first motherboard I have installed and setup myself and was looking for advice on how best to improve performance as well as double checking my bios settings from a expert like yourself.

• Why MSI DKA 790GX platinum BIOS 1.7 dun have EEP mode for DRAM setting

may i know why MSI DKA 790GX platinum BIOS 1.7 dun have EEP mode for DRAM setting?
cos i cant see EEP using CPUZ.

I have no good answer, just a rule of thumb: After a BIOS updae, pull power cable out and clear CMOS.
In this thread it says Kingston may not have EPP settings, but if it worked previously... Perhaps the memory controller didn't understand you had that memory to begin with?
Better ask: Is everything the same, before and after update? Why did you update?

i update to v1.7 because when i first plug in the 1066Mhz RAM, it only show 800Mhz in bios, so i update to v1.7 as the update include "update memory module".
anyway my system is fine, as i have run 8 hr of memtest.
just want to know why there's no EPP option in v1.7
p/s. I think i saw EPP option in v1.6 using the same RAM.

• Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 with MSI MS K8N Neo Platinum (Bios Version 1.40)

I am interested in Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 (PC4000) 512MB DDR-SDRAM. Currently, I’m using MSI MS K8N Neo Platinum (Bios Version 1.40) with AMD 64bit 2800+ & MSI MS 8907 FX5200-TD128 AGP Card.
Please advice whether the Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 (PC4000) 512MB DDR-SDRAM compatible with my systems.

The "safe mode" that the BIOS message refers to is not related to Windows' Safe Mode. The BIOS safe mode lets you un-do any overclocking or memory settings that might make your computer so unstable that you can't even get into the BIOS settings to change them. In that case, you hold insert while powering on to reset the BIOS to default safe values.
As for your problem getting into Windows' Safe Mode. If you upgraded from another motherboard that uses a different chipset, or if you somehow got the wrong chipset drivers installed, then the old AGP GART or chipset drivers will cause the system to halt/reboot very early in the Windows boot process even in safe mode. I've run into this problem before and its tricky. Best thing to do is switch back to the old motherboard, then go into safe mode and remove all chipset-related drivers, and then switch back to the new motherboard. If you can't do that, try running system repair from the windows setup CD. And failing that, you'd probably have to fully re-install the OS.

Hello
If I switch off the power to the power supply to say move the PC perhaps the BIOS resets to default settings. This is really annoying because it resets the date causing Windows XP to activated again...and again.....and again.....   >:(

• K9N2 SLI Platinum + Bios v3.6 = sad sad sad turbomach5

Been awhile :D  Anyho I have a MAJOR problem.  Updated the bios from 3.5 to 3.6.  Rebooted, cleared the BIOS settings, set things right.  Started the computer and everything seemed fine until it just turned off.  Now I thought it was because I just plugged my iPhone up.  I started it up and checked the BIOS settings.  I noticed (oh btw my processor is the Phenom II X4 940BE) the voltage wasn't set to auto anymore.  Instead it was set....to....1.8v!  I tried to change it but it kept shutting down the computer.  Now everytime I turn it on, all 4 groups of the DLED are red.  I tried resetting the CMOS and replace the CPU with my old Athlon 64 X2 4200+ but still does the same thing:  Starts up but DLED is all red, saying the processor is damaged.
Could it actually be the motherboard?  Right now I'm using my mother's computer (with a MSI motherboard :D).

Can you get into the bios before it shuts down?
I figured it out how to fix the problem.
1. go into the bios
2. load Fail-safe defaults asap
3. Save & Exit setup asap before the computer shuts down
4. go back into the bios < cell menu, and the cpu voltage should go back to auto.

• P965 Platinum BIOS design bug!

Maybe most of P965 Platinum or P965 NEO users have a confusion. Should you have try to set the memory rate in 800 for testing? For example, E6300 is running 333x7=2331mhz and memory is running 999mhz(BIOS SET THE RATE IN 800). So far, no any question has been found in this setting in my machine.
Maybe you will have a question, why my memory rate set in 533 or 667 for OC to 1000mhz or 800mhz will be hang or instability whether set at 5-5-5-x or 4-4-4-x.
Here, do you check the SPD setting? THIS IS A BUG! When we set the memory rate in 533(cpu:memory=1:1), BIOS will auto to read the memory SPD setting(DDR2-533). Such as Corsair 5400C4's SPD: @ 266 MHz 4-4-4-12  (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 15-28-2-4-2  (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR).  When we OC the memory from DDR2-533 to DDR2-1000, the highlighted in red has not auto update the setting to DDR2-1000's parameter.
But as first topic, I can very very stability to OC the memory in DDR2-999(DD2-800's parameter:5-5-5-12-15-42-3-5-4) at P965 Platinum!
Here, how we can adjust the parameter? Only ask MSI's technical to fix this bug!

rklw, for overclocking specific question, please post in the Overclocking forum.
For the RAM settings, please read the sticky thread above on top of this forum, regarding P965 Platinum BIOS. Get the one that all users said it works for setting the RAM timing correctly.

• P965 platinum BIOS

Hi.
This is part observation and part suggestion. In the sticky zone there is no BIOS guide for the P965 platinum BIOS 1.4.
I realize that there is such a thing as RL, and that the board experts are already taking time to help out (as you did me in an earlier post...ty), but it would seem to me that a BIOS guide explaining all the settings would answer a lot of questions and save time for everyone.
I have not the knowledge to contribute in a useful way, other than to suggest that it need not fall on a single pair of shoulders. Anyone knowing or having experimented with any of the settings could chip in with the info on that setting.
Thanks again to all providing help

Actually, for most settings there is a good enough explanation in the P965 Platinum manual (at least I think). For any specific settings you can ask specific questions, right?

• MSI X58A-GD65 BIOS Cell Menu Bugs!

Hello,
I updated the bios to the latest version according to MSI's website (Update Date    2010-11-17 version 2.22)
I had configured everything from scratch and even Cell Menu options.
I had my CPU overclocked to 4.0 GHZ (20x200) and RAM to 1600 and in Extreme Profile 1 (8-8-8-24).
I verified that everything was ok and stabled (I did a couple of benchmarks and torture tests to be assured)
I noticed today that the BIOS refuses to run with the overclocked settings
By refusal I mean, it boots fine but it boots at 133x20!  (2660 mhz)
I tried setting the options again and nothing happened everything stayed the same.
Also I have disabled ALL POWER SAVING FEATURES like Green Power, Intel EIST and the like
Some proof: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1514841
PS) I refuse to use the old bios because the old bios was worse than the current one and I will have more trouble with it.
Give me a solution please.

Recommend opening a ticket with MSI Tech Support & describing in detail the problems you are having with the new bios. Since this is a user to user forum, nothing concerning a bios revision or the like is going to get fixed here. About the only advice anyone here could give would be maybe some new setting in the bios has been added, or a setting has been overlooked preventing the desired results.
After taking a peek in the manual, nothing is shown about the board having these setting options. It's possible the new bios has incorporated it. It would show up in bios Cell Menu & the description of what it is & what it does would be in the info box to the right. When OC'ing, make sure to disable Spread Spectrum. After the bios update, did you remove the power cord from the PSU & clear CMOS?
I have disabled the "Spread Spectrum" because it caused slow perfomance especially in SSD.
About the power cord and clear cmos. No, never, ever.

The industry standard voltage for all DDR3 memory modules is 1.5V +/- 0.075V.  The fact that your modules need 1.7-1.9V for DDR3-1333/CL9 tells you that these are factory overclocked DDR3-1066 modules, not true DDR3-1333 which should run at a standard voltage of 1.5V +/-0.075V as well.  Also, please note that the P45 Chipset natively only supports DDR3-800 and DDR3-1066 memory modules.  From the point of view of the chipset, forcing the memory speed to DDR3-1333 is overclocking and not necessarely stable.
You are basically overclocking the memory controller/chipset and your modules.  This causes stability problems in many cases.  Also, your problem is not necessarely BIOS related.  Have you tested real DDR3-1333 modules that are built to run @1.5V JEDEC Standard voltage?

i did do a quick search on here before posting this question but had a load of varying answers ... so
i have a K8N Neo Platinum Bios 1.3 an xp 3700 and core centre says the chip is at about 45 - 50 degrees when the pc is idle
this is with the stock fan that came with the chip and ive also tried a samurai heatsink and fan .... ive reseated and reapplied artic silver and also tried thermal pads as well and the temp on the processor always comes back as 45 ish degrees
is this normal as the pc seems to run ok and even after round of doom 3 the temps only seem to hit about 55
are these chips hotter now or is it a bios / thermal temp issue
cheers guys

yup, issue with temp reading -> 1.43 beta bios for K8N NEO pL.  for me 36-39 idle 42-45 after a doom3 session

• MSI K7N2 Delta Platinum

I want to update my mother board, I am thinking of getting a K7N2 Delta Platinum has anyone got anything good or bad to say about this board?

Hi Ballie,
I've recently got one of these.
Had a lot of fun installing the operating system etc direct from a K7N2G-ILSR board. Most of them revolved around the fact that the RAID controllers are different so I had no choice but to wipe the discs and do a clean install. BACK EVERYTHING UP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING (yes I'm shouting, so you can hear me....)
I've still not got a proper answer to the problem in this thread yet http:// RAID not fault tolerant on K7N2 Delta 2 Platinum?
, but the board works fine. The overclocking capabilities of the CoreCell technology are very good. I got it up to somewhere in the 2500's before it crashed and then it restarted beautifully at a setting just below the one it went out on, all on it's own.
I'm not running it overclocked presently.
I think my personal preference would be for a board with the Promise RAID controller as it is configurable, whereas nVidia's Raidman is purely a look and see program. If they sorted that out to the same standard as Promise then I would be happy. Obviously, if you don't plan to use RAID that isn't going to be an issue.
Plenty of USB ports, etc. and nice easy colour coded plugs, etc. to make sure you shove them connectors in all the right holes. Has 9 holes for attaching the board to the case, so plugging things like memory chips into it doesn't cause it to bend as much as the less well supported boards. I'd still plug things in on a flat surface before mounting the board though.
The CPU temperature sensor is one of those bendy wire things, so make sure you peel the paper off the underside of the chip and carefully curve the temp wire over into a U shape so that it springs up and presses flat against the underside of the centre part of the chip for best accuracy.
One odd thing - the temperature readings that are active in my CoreCell are CPU and System. The Northbridge temp isn't showing, dunno why... anyone got any suggestions??
A lot of the connectors are concentrated on the right side of the board and this can give rise to a few cable conflicts with things like HDD's getting in the way, but if you have a case with a choice of HDD mounting slots you can easily overcome these minor niggles.
On the whole I like this board. If it does as well as the last board I think I'll be well happy. Hope this has helped you. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask.

• Again prob with K9A Platinum BIOS ....

After the 1.5 BIOS of the K9A Platinum , BIOS went downhill .... I'm not using either 1.6 or 1.7 now cause my 8800GTX doesn't run ok.It seems it runs downclocked. For example when 3Dmark06 starts , with 1.5 i have 65FPS , with 1,6 and 1.7 i have 37FPS .I had in the past opened a thread here having that prob and in the end it was the BIOS.I was really hoping the 1.7 would solve this issue , but no ... And except that i have an AMD X2 5200+ and i wonna put extra voltage to o/c it but 1.25 is way low.My pc posts just fine in the beginning but doesn't boot on windows.I really think that if the highest vcore voltage value to set to M/B was 1.5 i would be able to o/c my CPU and boot in windows.Hope 1.8 will fix those probs ...

Stick with the BIOS that works best!
BIOS versions are NOT updates! they are bug-fixes....
Newer revisions doe not nessesary offer better OC or better workings...
Also, do not count on too much OC fixes, as they don't make new revisions to solve OC problems.
(They might, but normaly not)
So go back to 1.5
