K7T Turbo 2 False IRQS

I'm new to the forum, but not new to the computer world. I own a MSI K7T Turbo 2 mobo. I've installed both win2k pro and win2k server many times trying to resolve the issues. Durning pre post the IRQS seem to be fine. When I check them in the Operating system I'm getting like ethernet reading irq 19, soundcard reading 16, modem reading 18. This is by for the weirdest configuration I ever seen in a system. I'm thinking its factory defect. I know that there are only 16 irqs not 20 of them....Lost in space.
 X(

No, this is not a defect. This is "APIC", Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller, is a PC2001 Compliance design guide, which expands the IRQ resources. Is your system running without any issue? If no problem, that means APIC works fine in your system. :D

  • K7T Turbo LE and problems with IRQ routing Win98SE

When I boot my machine (AMD 1600+ on an MSI K7T Turbo Limited Edition), the BIOS reports me the following:
SiS6326 AGP card: NA (no IRQ even if I enable "Assign IRQ to VGA" in BIOS, but that's not my problem)
Startech NIC in slot 2: IRQ 11
    D-Link DFE-538 TX in slot 3: IRQ 10
Echo Mia soundcard in slot 4: IRQ 5
Onboard Promise ATA100 controller: IRQ 11
2x USB controllers Via 3038: IRQ 3 for each one
IDE controllers: IRQ 14 and 15
In "Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager", there's one big difference:
The two USB controllers (Via 3038 PCI to USB) are on IRQ 10!!! The only way for Via USB controllers to be on their real good one IRQ (3) is to completely disable "IRQ Steering" in "Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager - System Devices - PCI Bus".
    To resolve this, I tried:
    - different Via 4 in 1 (4.32, 4.35, 4.36): no changes
    - Via IRQ miniport uninstalled: no changes
    - Enable "PnP OS" and "ACPI" in the BIOS: no changes
    - Tried all the combinations in "Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager - System Devices - PCI Bus - IRQ Steering" (except disabling IRQ Steering because like I said, it resolves the bug. Though, I want IRQ Steering to be enabled AND the bug resolved).
So, if anyone have a clue, it will be really appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • How to adjust IRQ for PCI card within BIOS - K7T Turbo

    Hello,
I have a new Diamond firewire external 160 Gb harddisk.
In spite I have upgraded the BIOS for my K7T Turbo board to version 3.6 (by specs at MSI at least I should use version 3.4 to run 160 Gb HD's), I get I/O errors after trying to copy lot of data to the harddisk.  ;( Afterwards I am losing contact to the device and get exclamation marks within the system configuration.
In searching for the errors, it could be the controller of the harddisk itself is not running proper, because I get NO fault by the firewire device within my PC, but just the Diamond controller + harddisk.
To make a last try if I can fix it, I want to give the internal firewire card an own IRQ number. Now with PnP options, many devices are sharing the same IRQ 11.
How can I set a fixed IRQ to the fourth (4e) PCI card within the BIOS?
Looking to the settings it seems I only can manage it when it is an ISA card, but those cards are not used any longer in modern mainboards.
Here are some screendumps of the errors.
    1.
No problems after a hard reboot.
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/1_reboot_no_error_a.gif
    2. Closer look for the following devices.
The contents of the red boxe within the device system shall disappear after the error.. The blue ones do get exclamation marks
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/2_reboot_no_error_b.gif
3+4. Error messages after a short while when trying to copy many data (above 4 Gb).
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/3_Error_message.gif
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/4_Error_message.gif
    5. Errors within the system configuration.
Input 1 do get an exclamation mark first, afterwards input 2
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/5_many_data_error_b.gif
The input of the previuos mentioned red box "general volume" (one is of the Diamond controller), is lost.
Within the file explorer also the harddisk volumes are lost.
    6. The log files show a controller error of the disk at IRQ 11
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/6_system_log.gif
Because no errors are found within the 1394 (firewire) device itself, I guess the problem is the Diamond controller of the harddisk.
But before going to the shop, I want to try to give the HD an own IRQ.
    Regards, Léon Obers

Mmm. I just see some other options.
The device called "1394 CF type II IEEE 1394 SBP2 device is an extrenal firewire Compact flash reader, not a Diamond controller. (It is connected, during the test, but not used for copying files).
In that case, it could be, that the firewire card itself is the troublesome device. First CF-card reader is lost from connection (exclamation mark), afterwards the Firewire harddisk.

  • K7T TURBO and GeForce 4600

    Hello all,
I am having trouble trying to put together my K7T TURBO MS 6330 with an ASUS V8460 (Ti 4600 Ultra Deluxe).
Specifically, I just replaced my old Oxygen card with the GeForce 4  one, and as soon as I installed the SmartDoctor 2 utility, I got the message (in red flashing text) :
" Your VGA card voltage 1.5 is out of safe bound. Motherboard doesn't supply with reliable
    1.5 voltage.
Please contact with motherboard manufacturer for help."
(I've allready sent an email to MSI support, and still waiting.)
Furthermore, I've been experiencing sudden crashes (i.e. when I am using 3d applications) followed by a blue screen reporting an error message about a file that seems to belong to SmartDoctor folder.
I've read that ASUS vga cards are rather demanding as for power and voltage. Anyway, I'd like to ask everyone in the forum, if there is a safe and reliable way for the
K7T TURBO and the Ti 4600 to work together, perhaps with a motherboard BIOS update (I am still using ver. 2.7 since there was no need to flash it till now) or something...or maybe it would be a better thing to do, to install on my machine an MSI 4200 8x AGP card that is available, instead... or ... go back to my oxygen thingie... :(
My PSU is 420 Watt, and my cpu is Athlon 1200 with 768 mb ram.
Well, I just hope someone could help...
    Thanks in advance

    Hi all,
I forced my AGP bus to x2 a couple of minutes ago, and now I got a message from Smart(...) Doctor that my voltage is out of 3.3 V bound etc.. and a blue screen reporting UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP (?).So, the situation is not improved...
I also put my sound card to another PCI slot, but I still had no luck at all. The thing is that unfortunately I have IRQ 11 being used by 6(!) devices: my gfx card, my scsi controller, my soundblaster, 2 VIA USB controllers and Microsoft ACPI Compliant System. Not very nice indeed.
I wonder if updating the motherboard's BIOS would do any good; btw, mine is ver.2.7, while the latest is 3.6 (!), but since I was ok till now, why bother flash it?
For the time being, I am not able to run 3D Mark 2k1 beyond benchmark #3, since it stops, leaving me on the desktop, while whenever I run Maya, winamp 3 and ACDSEE 4 simultaneously, after a while I get the blue screen of death, saying something about anvioctl.sys file - a SmartDoctor file hiding into system32/drivers.  ?(

First game "quake 3" works fine aslong as im constantly moving intill I have to leave it on untouched for a min or so. Then it locks up or freezes and all I see is a black screen. In  starcraft it will let me play for a good 2 minutes and then the screen freezes. Last game  I tried was black and white that let me play for a good 4 mins then everytime i tried again the time it took to lock up got shorter and shorter. Ive installed new bios and via chipset drivers and still nothing.
Anybody got any other ideas I can try ????????????

well I didnt think I needed to since I was using a PCI card. I guess Ill go ahead and try. As for my power source im going to list everything it says cause i dont know a thing about them.

  • HELP using AMD 1800+ (Thoroughbred) in K7T Turbo Ltd Ed

Sigh. I correctly remembered that the XP1800 was the fastest that the K7T Turbo Limited Edition could handle, so I picked one up.
Got it home, and determined that I got a Thoroughbred (model 8) rather than a Palomino (model 6) and the compatibility chart say "No"
I have been looking at the specs for the two models, and can't see why it shouldn't work. Has anyone got any further information?
    Thanks so much!
    Paul Birnbaum

But I had seen that page previously, and except for the 1.75/1.60 Core Voltage values (and the K7T Ltd Ed supports both those values) there seems to be no difference.
So there's still no definitive answer as to why the board would support the Palomino and not the T-Bred (which looks way like a typo for the old T-Bird!)
I did note that the BIOS values available for CPU Vio are 3.3v and 3.45v...so possibly that's it. I can't find a CPU Vio spec for either chip. Or possibly, it's just that the board doesn't recognize the CPUID.
    Anyway, thanks...

  • K7T Turbo-R (6330 v3) & Athlon XP 1800 Problem

My current system is a K7T Turbo-R that I've had for a couple of years now.  During this time, I've used an Athlon T-Bird 1.33GHz processor without any issues - very stable (I can probably count on one hand the number of lock-ups).  The power supply is a 300W Antec.
I decided to upgrade the CPU.  I checked the CPU support status and found that the highest I could use with this board is an Athlon XP 1800+ Palomino, which is what I purchased (code on the core is AX1800DMT3C).
After removing the TBird and installing the XP (along with a new CPU cooler), the system won't post at all, and all 4 LEDs are red.   :O
I reinstalled the TBird (along with the same new cooler) and all is fine again.  Figuring I had simply received a bum CPU, I tested the same XP 1800 on another system (a Soltek PurpleRay) and found that the CPU was fine.
Note: The BIOS is at v3.6 and J17 is open.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

This reply is for Mustang (a bit late maybe  )
The description of your problem indicates one or more failing capacitors on your motherboard. Check out this link for some example pictures of what that looks like:
    http://www.careyholzman.com/caps/thumbnails.html
The reason i'm thinking about this is that i replaced 6 dead capacitors on my own K7T turbo last weekend. 4 of the 4700uF/6.3V ones had died (around the CPU socket), and both of the 2700uF/6.3V ones near the AGP slot. My system was showing the EXACT same symptom you are having. It would not boot after powering on with the power button, but a reset helped (this is at 1000 MHz, at 1333 MHz resetting did not help). This also explains why your old processor works fine, but the new one doesnt. Your PSU/power regulator combo is able to provide a stable enough voltage to the old processor with it's low power consumption. But with the new more power-hungy processor those big capacitors (which help stabilizing the voltage supplied to the processor) are missed :/
Apparently a Taiwanese capacitor producer supplied a large number of faulty capacitors to motherboard producers like msi, asus, abit, etc. More info in here: (and lots of other sites too)
    http://www.timcousins.com.au/capacitorfailures.htm
Hope this is indeed your problem, and that you can fix it

  • K7T Turbo & CPU upgrade

Oops, is this the right spot for this post ? Anyway...
    I have a MSI K7T Turbo Version 3.0 Limited Edition motherboard,without RAID.
    (yes I know it's old)
The AMD Athlon processor (1.1Ghz) got fried and I want to replace it. The board is fantasic and I want to upgrade the processor. What AMD processors can I use in this board ?
The manual says 1.3Ghz maximum. I have seen on websites it will take up to 1.8Ghz. Is this true ?
I have also seen it will only take Athlon, or Palamino.
Someone else told me it will take the 1.33 GHz Thoroughbred processor , or some low Athlon XPs like XP1800+.... Help !
Can anyone please clarify for me ?
I want to put the maximum size processor in that will run with stability....
ps. I have upgraded my cooling system !

  • K7T Turbo LE - Windows XP Pro SP-1 is not detecting my CD ROM drive I used to install XP Pro !!!!!!!

This is an XP driver issue that I'm not sure how to resolve.
This is a brand new K7T Turbo (MS-6330) Limited Edition motherboard (red-colored board, not green), Ver. 3 (no RAID controller on-board)
PSU is 400w (I tried another PSU, same issue)
    Athlon 850MHz socket-A
    CD-ROM drive - Yamaha CDR2100E 16x10x40  UDMA-1
The BIOS is 3.6, updated prior to Windows XP's installation
The VIA 4-in-1 drivers were updated with the latest available on MSI's website for the 6330
2 hard drives installed on the primary controller - one set to master, one set to slave
CD-ROM drive is the only device on the secondary controller, set to master with no slave, and is plugged-into the end IDE cable connector
The board detects the cd drive, and I even installed Windows XP Pro WITH this cd-rom drive, installed as currently configured, which is what pisses me off.  I've installed XP four times today, try different things between installs, and nothing.  The drive works FINE outside of XP, but as soon as XP starts, the drive disappears and XP doesn't even detect it.  Also, while booting up, the start screen will lock up (activity bar freezes and hard drive activity stops) for about ten seconds (but everything's hooked-up right... I'm not a PC rookie!).
HELP!  Please oh please help!!!!  I'm getting aggravated!

  • K7T Turbo LE IDE problem?

    Hi,
I'm stuck here. I have an AMD Athlon 1400/266 (T-bird) running on the K7T Turbo Limited Edition mainboard, BIOS version 3.6. 512 MB PC133 SDRAM. 2 Maxtor HD's. My system is about 2 years old.
In the last 2 months, the following has started to happen:
Occasionally (say, 1 out of 10 attempts), my PC won't boot (DISK_BOOT_FAILURE). I know this in advance because when it happens, it gives two short beeps when powered up (can't find the meaning of them :O ).
The problem is: sometimes the Primary Master is gone ("none"), but other times, it's the primary slave. In that case, the PC will boot but behaves very strange once WinXP is started. And sometimes, both master and slave show up as "None"  ?(
The optical drives on IDE2 are detected at all times.
D-Bracket is all green. I reseated the IDE cable with no result. Tested both the Maxtor HD's, no errors.
    So, what now? Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

Just came back from my holiday so I ran some more tests.
First, I checked the drives one at a time using the PowerMax utility. 81GB slave is fine (tested alone).
40GB master is fine 9 out of 10, 10th time it says "Please Perform extended diagnostics" and then it reports "Congratulations, your drive passed all tests!"
    A little weird....
Looks like failing drive, but could this also be IDE controller communication failure?
I also tried replacing the 80pin IDE cable with a 40pin cable which is brand new. This makes no difference other than slower system speed.
Maxtor website has no info, MSI same story.
    Now what???  ;(

  • K7T Turbo D-Bracket USB connector?

    Please I need some help.
I have a K7T Turbo Limited Edition Motherboard 6330 V.30 .  It came with the P2P USB Bracket and the D-Bracket.
I can only find one place on the motherboard for a USB connector, how am I supposed to install these?  Is there a mismarked motherboard pinout?
My Motherboard manual says it has a connectors for 6 USB ports.
I have 2 near the PS2 connectors built in, the D-Bracket has 2, the P2P has 2 which = 6, but I can't find a place to plug the brackets into the motherboard.
I would appreciate any help in the matter at all
    Neoghost

    Hi
According to the MSI site for the K7T Turbo Limited Edition, your motherboard only supports 4 USB connections.
You can use a USB PCI card to obtain more if needed.

  • K7T Turbo CPU upgrade problem

I've got a ms-6330 K7T Turbo limited edition board.  I've been running a 900mhz Duron for years in this board with no problems.  I recently bought an XP1800+ (palomino).  I upgraded to the newest version BIOS, changed the jumper for the 133 FSB and installed the CPU.  The first power-up it hung on the post screen.  After that, I got nothing.  The D-led shows it is hanging at processor initialization.  Put my Duron back in and it works fine.
I bought the processor off Ebay and realize this may be my problem.  But it was from a reputable seller.  Is there something else I could try before trying to contact the seller for a replacement?  I wish I had another socket A board to try it in, but I don't.

Are you 100% sure you recieved a Palomino core?
You can refer to this chart, and compare the CPU to the pictures, to verify that it is a palomino core.
Also, insure the the heatsink is properly seated, as they will fit the wrong way, but will not make good contact with the CPU.
Did you use fresh thermal grease on the heatsink?
    PC133 is required to use a 133FSB.
Try clearing the CMOS, and see if that will allow it to boot.

  • K7T Turbo-R Limited Edition W/Raid

    Two questions,
first how do you tell if your XP 1800+ is a palomino? I purchased one but all it says is AMD Athlon XP 1800+ on the factory sticker.
Second when I use this processor with my K7T Turbo-R Limited W/Raid it will boot up fine, displays the correct processor speed (shows XP 1800+ in post) but the pc will at random times out of the blue just re-boot. I have a 400 watt psu AMD approved.  and my memory is good. I've done all the bios updates also. Is it possible that this is an unsupported cpu?

  • K7T Turbo-R Limited Edition and USB

After doing whatever research I could in these forums, I really couldn't find solid answer so I'm posting my questions.
I have recently ordered a new case for my K7T Turbo-R Limited Edition (it's the red one) which has additional USB connections in the front of the case.
Am I going to be able to connect the board to the case so I can use those USB slots?

    Hi Gregthos,
I remember there was something with these connections - I think they will only work with the bracket and for the PC2PC connection ...
There is at least 1 thread on this in the forum ... here
