K7T TURBO 2 - RANDOM REBOOT PROBS

I am just about ready to give up oin this mobo.  My PC reboots RANDOMLY without warning with my KT7 Turbo 2 Mobo. I have already replaced the following components:
- Power Supply (Enermax 350W)
- RAM (Micron)
- Video Card (Radeon 8500)
- CPU (AMD 1800XP)
Running latest BIOS + VIA Drivers. Reinstalled XP Pro O/S twice. System runs pretty cool @ 32C and CPU @ 45 on full load. Still the problem occurns, the computer will run for whole day no problem, then it will reboot 5 times the next day. No specific occurance, sometimes during games sometimes just browsing the web. It is driving me nuts! Anyone know of a BIOS setting or sometihing that may cause random reboots ? I've heard of over heating (not present) bad ram (replaced) bad power supply (replaced) even replaced the CPU ! LOL. Me thinks it's back to ASUS, more money but damn rock hard stability.

i got the same probs with the same motherboard...ms.6330...pc reboot by itself and can't find a solution....try to change power supply...try to disconnect reset button from motherboard....problem is still here....
shall i learn some basic voodoo?
kind regards from france

  • K7T Turbo, monitor shuts off randomly

I have a MSI K7T Turbo.  My monitor will randomly shut off.  I am running an xp1600 under win98.  Any suggestions?  I could b in a 3d game or just browsing the web.
I have an ample AMD approve power supply and note no other irregularities.  Video card?  Sometimes when it happens I can move the mouse around and it will come back?  I even tried another monitor and I get the same problem.

    Hi,
Try another AGP card, this is normally not something that's controlled by the motherboard.

  • Early 2011 MBP 13 random reboots (no Kernel Panic logged)

    Hi,
    Problem Description:
My MacBook Pro randomly reboots at least 1-2 times a day. I cannot find a kernel log because each restart is a double one.
Let me explain the problem further : 1. Im doing something (nothing specific..no specific app) on the mac 2. The screen freezes and becomes unresponsive ( I know a reboot is coming)
    3. I get the gray screen which says "Your computer restarted because of a problem..." ...this is followed by the white screen with the apple sign..it loads for a few seconds and it reboots AGAIN..this time i hear the chime...loads into the OS normally ...works until i either shut it down / put it to sleep / another random restart (varies from 1 hour to 6 hours )
    Things I've tried :
    SMC / PRAM reset
    Erase Drive and TimeMachine Restore
Apple Hardware Tests / Diagnostics all pass
Verify / Repair permissions / disk (did this a million times)
    Reindexed Spotlight
Erased Drive and did a clean install and MIGRATED files from TimeMachine
Safe Mode ( THIS did not have random reboots...also fyi ..i didn't try this for long)
    Logs Data:
Since I don't have the .panic files. I am pasting a chunk of the log before and after the PROBLEM.

  • K7T Turbo-R Limited Edition W/Raid

    Two questions,
first how do you tell if your XP 1800+ is a palomino? I purchased one but all it says is AMD Athlon XP 1800+ on the factory sticker.
Second when I use this processor with my K7T Turbo-R Limited W/Raid it will boot up fine, displays the correct processor speed (shows XP 1800+ in post) but the pc will at random times out of the blue just re-boot. I have a 400 watt psu AMD approved.  and my memory is good. I've done all the bios updates also. Is it possible that this is an unsupported cpu?

  • K7T Turbo Limited Ed. and problems :(

    Hallo
I have MSI K7T Turbo Limited Edition mobo (on KT133A). Yesterday something strange happened. I was surfing the net and suddenly my PC rebooted. After reboot I saw that in BIOS test, BIOS didin't detect my hard drives connected to first controller. CD-ROM and CD-RW were properly detected on the second controller.
I turn the PC off....waited about 30 seconds and turn it on. And everything was fine again. But in a short time it happened again. But now I heard something strange. I heard that both drives are stopping...slow down wnd stop. After a 1-2 sec. windows XP freezed and PC rebooted again :( And again there was no drives detected on first controller :(
    I checked:
    1. viruses - system is clean. I checked it with NAV2003 (within windows and dos - from bootable disc)
    2. I tried to plug those 2 drives (15 GB Caviar and 15 GB Fujitsu) to the second controler (first was empty).
I asked some friends about it and one said that it could be power supply (maybe there is some instability or something).
Someone else told me that it could be a battery on the mobo (I have has this mobo for 2 years).
Or maybe it is a problem with motherboard? Maybe controller is damged....but...from the other hand when I restar the PC everythin works fine....some time :(
System: AMD XP1700+ (not overclocked), mobo as I said above, Radeon 8500, CD-ROM and CD-RW (pluged to second controller), Caviar 15 GB and Fujitsu (pluggeg do first controller), Windows XP with SP1.
I had no problems with that system befere.

    Hi
I must check the type of that battery...but from the other hand if the battery was the problem it wouldn't keep all BIOS settings. Am I right? But it keeps.
Power supply is 300W - it is a kind off no-name (I bouhgt it with case 3 months ago and there was no problems befere :( )
I've already borrowed one - I'll check it later today (after work).

  • K7T Turbo limited edition can't support Windows XP!!!!

i'm user of K7T Turbo Limited Edition mainboard, i treid to upgrade my OS to Windows XP currently and i found that the installation aborted abnormaly when it reach windows is restarting phase, and my PC will just hang without giving any response, i'm wondering my mianboard can't support Windows XP. Another prob i face is my hp deskject 630c printer couldn't supported by the mainboard also, i had tested on other PC and it works truly well. Anyone facing similar situation ?? can i solve my prob with update the latest BIOS

    Hi!
There is no reason why your mobo (or printer for that matter, XP-drivers, both for parallel and USB interface can be downloaded from the HP site) would NOT support Windows XP.
It could be, however,  that you need to update BIOS first. If you have a BIOS version prior to 3.0, you will have to update.

    Hans

  • How to adjust IRQ for PCI card within BIOS - K7T Turbo

    Hello,
I have a new Diamond firewire external 160 Gb harddisk.
In spite I have upgraded the BIOS for my K7T Turbo board to version 3.6 (by specs at MSI at least I should use version 3.4 to run 160 Gb HD's), I get I/O errors after trying to copy lot of data to the harddisk.  ;( Afterwards I am losing contact to the device and get exclamation marks within the system configuration.
In searching for the errors, it could be the controller of the harddisk itself is not running proper, because I get NO fault by the firewire device within my PC, but just the Diamond controller + harddisk.
To make a last try if I can fix it, I want to give the internal firewire card an own IRQ number. Now with PnP options, many devices are sharing the same IRQ 11.
How can I set a fixed IRQ to the fourth (4e) PCI card within the BIOS?
Looking to the settings it seems I only can manage it when it is an ISA card, but those cards are not used any longer in modern mainboards.
Here are some screendumps of the errors.
    1.
No problems after a hard reboot.
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/1_reboot_no_error_a.gif
    2. Closer look for the following devices.
The contents of the red boxe within the device system shall disappear after the error.. The blue ones do get exclamation marks
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/2_reboot_no_error_b.gif
3+4. Error messages after a short while when trying to copy many data (above 4 Gb).
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/3_Error_message.gif
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/4_Error_message.gif
    5. Errors within the system configuration.
Input 1 do get an exclamation mark first, afterwards input 2
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/5_many_data_error_b.gif
The input of the previuos mentioned red box "general volume" (one is of the Diamond controller), is lost.
Within the file explorer also the harddisk volumes are lost.
    6. The log files show a controller error of the disk at IRQ 11
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/6_system_log.gif
Because no errors are found within the 1394 (firewire) device itself, I guess the problem is the Diamond controller of the harddisk.
But before going to the shop, I want to try to give the HD an own IRQ.
    Regards, Léon Obers

Mmm. I just see some other options.
The device called "1394 CF type II IEEE 1394 SBP2 device is an extrenal firewire Compact flash reader, not a Diamond controller. (It is connected, during the test, but not used for copying files).
In that case, it could be, that the firewire card itself is the troublesome device. First CF-card reader is lost from connection (exclamation mark), afterwards the Firewire harddisk.
    Regards, Léon Obers

  • Still K8n neo2 random reboots !

few days ago had random reboots while using/quiting games!
almost try everything like testing other ram, Vga etc...
and face the trouble coming from voltage line drops (low 3.3v).
So decide to swap for better Psu and bought a hiper 480w type R.
but still have that fu..... reboot
try a single(noname) 512 ddr stick and hadn't the prob
like to know why dual channels ddr(512TwinX3200c2) don't work ?
In fact i bought k8n neo2 instead of k8n neo cause of the dual capability!!!!
    anyone could help?
    please help!!!

I've seen that happen on my older P4 when I overclocked it.  Games push your computer to the limits so it might be an issue with overheating or having the errors due to overclocking.

  • K7t turbo won't boot with xp1800+

I'm tyring to do an upgrade from my 1.4 tbird to a xp1800+ palomino. I have 2 sticks of pc133 crucial ram and a 300W sparkle psu. I've been running at 133 the entire time i've had the 1.4 cpu.
the bios will detect the 1800+ fine, but the computer always reboots when it gets to the "Starting windows xp" screen
    what could be the problem?

    Hi
I have also bought a new cpu (XP1800+) for my K7T Turbo and the day before I upgraded the cpu I updated the bios from 3.2 to 3.6
Then I upgraded the cpu, and have a lot of trouble!
The machine stops all kinds of places, it is very hard/tricky to turn it on, some times I need to restart it serveral times.
The led displays (D-LED) comes with different failure from stopping at early chipset initialization to testing vga bios and initializing keyboard controller.
I found that the default VCore is not the 1.750V as required by the XP1800+ and that the motherboard only supports VCore = 1.700V, set this by manual.
Then remember to remove the jumper on the board to work with cpu's at 133FSB.
These things helped me a lot, but my machine was still very unstable.
I have now downgraded my BIOS to ver. 3.2 and testet it for one day, and have not experienced any kind of problem, except that it does not recognize my cpu as a XP1800+ but runs at 1533 MHz
I think, that theres a bug in the BIOS ver. 3.6 for the motherboard! ??
This is also showed by the problems did'nt stop when I changed my cpu back to the old TB1000, and had the same problems as with the XP1800+
    So my advise:
    - set the VCore manually
    - remove the jumper
    - downgrade your bios
I have plans to upgrade my bios 0.1 version at a time, until it becomes unstable, and then go 0.1 version back.
Im writing a new thread on this subject to, where I will also write about my experince about the bios upgrades.
    Good Luck!
    Regards
    Ronni

Welp fixed other problem by installing XP with cpu cache off and then turned back on when finished. Everything seemed to work fine all up to the point when I tried to start playing games. First game "quake 3" works fine aslong as im constantly moving intill I have to leave it on untouched for a min or so. Then it locks up or freezes and all I see is a black screen. In  starcraft it will let me play for a good 2 minutes and then the screen freezes. Last game  I tried was black and white that let me play for a good 4 mins then everytime i tried again the time it took to lock up got shorter and shorter. Ive installed new bios and via chipset drivers and still nothing.
Anybody got any other ideas I can try ????????????

well I didnt think I needed to since I was using a PCI card. I guess Ill go ahead and try. As for my power source im going to list everything it says cause i dont know a thing about them.

  • HELP using AMD 1800+ (Thoroughbred) in K7T Turbo Ltd Ed

Sigh. I correctly remembered that the XP1800 was the fastest that the K7T Turbo Limited Edition could handle, so I picked one up.
Got it home, and determined that I got a Thoroughbred (model 8) rather than a Palomino (model 6) and the compatibility chart say "No"
I have been looking at the specs for the two models, and can't see why it shouldn't work. Has anyone got any further information?
    Thanks so much!
    Paul Birnbaum

But I had seen that page previously, and except for the 1.75/1.60 Core Voltage values (and the K7T Ltd Ed supports both those values) there seems to be no difference.
So there's still no definitive answer as to why the board would support the Palomino and not the T-Bred (which looks way like a typo for the old T-Bird!)
I did note that the BIOS values available for CPU Vio are 3.3v and 3.45v...so possibly that's it. I can't find a CPU Vio spec for either chip. Or possibly, it's just that the board doesn't recognize the CPUID.
    Anyway, thanks...

  • K7T Turbo-R (6330 v3) & Athlon XP 1800 Problem

My current system is a K7T Turbo-R that I've had for a couple of years now.  During this time, I've used an Athlon T-Bird 1.33GHz processor without any issues - very stable (I can probably count on one hand the number of lock-ups).  The power supply is a 300W Antec.
I decided to upgrade the CPU.  I checked the CPU support status and found that the highest I could use with this board is an Athlon XP 1800+ Palomino, which is what I purchased (code on the core is AX1800DMT3C).
After removing the TBird and installing the XP (along with a new CPU cooler), the system won't post at all, and all 4 LEDs are red.   :O
I reinstalled the TBird (along with the same new cooler) and all is fine again.  Figuring I had simply received a bum CPU, I tested the same XP 1800 on another system (a Soltek PurpleRay) and found that the CPU was fine.
Note: The BIOS is at v3.6 and J17 is open.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

This reply is for Mustang (a bit late maybe  )
The description of your problem indicates one or more failing capacitors on your motherboard. Check out this link for some example pictures of what that looks like:
    http://www.careyholzman.com/caps/thumbnails.html
The reason i'm thinking about this is that i replaced 6 dead capacitors on my own K7T turbo last weekend. 4 of the 4700uF/6.3V ones had died (around the CPU socket), and both of the 2700uF/6.3V ones near the AGP slot. My system was showing the EXACT same symptom you are having. It would not boot after powering on with the power button, but a reset helped (this is at 1000 MHz, at 1333 MHz resetting did not help). This also explains why your old processor works fine, but the new one doesnt. Your PSU/power regulator combo is able to provide a stable enough voltage to the old processor with it's low power consumption. But with the new more power-hungy processor those big capacitors (which help stabilizing the voltage supplied to the processor) are missed :/
Apparently a Taiwanese capacitor producer supplied a large number of faulty capacitors to motherboard producers like msi, asus, abit, etc. More info in here: (and lots of other sites too)

Hope this is indeed your problem, and that you can fix it

  • K7T Turbo & CPU upgrade

Oops, is this the right spot for this post ? Anyway...
    I have a MSI K7T Turbo Version 3.0 Limited Edition motherboard,without RAID.
    (yes I know it's old)
The AMD Athlon processor (1.1Ghz) got fried and I want to replace it. The board is fantasic and I want to upgrade the processor. What AMD processors can I use in this board ?
The manual says 1.3Ghz maximum. I have seen on websites it will take up to 1.8Ghz. Is this true ?
I have also seen it will only take Athlon, or Palamino.
Someone else told me it will take the 1.33 GHz Thoroughbred processor , or some low Athlon XPs like XP1800+.... Help !
Can anyone please clarify for me ?
I want to put the maximum size processor in that will run with stability....
ps. I have upgraded my cooling system !

  • K7T Turbo LE - Windows XP Pro SP-1 is not detecting my CD ROM drive I used to install XP Pro !!!!!!!

This is an XP driver issue that I'm not sure how to resolve.
This is a brand new K7T Turbo (MS-6330) Limited Edition motherboard (red-colored board, not green), Ver. 3 (no RAID controller on-board)
PSU is 400w (I tried another PSU, same issue)
    Athlon 850MHz socket-A
    CD-ROM drive - Yamaha CDR2100E 16x10x40  UDMA-1
The BIOS is 3.6, updated prior to Windows XP's installation
The VIA 4-in-1 drivers were updated with the latest available on MSI's website for the 6330
2 hard drives installed on the primary controller - one set to master, one set to slave
CD-ROM drive is the only device on the secondary controller, set to master with no slave, and is plugged-into the end IDE cable connector
The board detects the cd drive, and I even installed Windows XP Pro WITH this cd-rom drive, installed as currently configured, which is what pisses me off.  I've installed XP four times today, try different things between installs, and nothing.  The drive works FINE outside of XP, but as soon as XP starts, the drive disappears and XP doesn't even detect it.  Also, while booting up, the start screen will lock up (activity bar freezes and hard drive activity stops) for about ten seconds (but everything's hooked-up right... I'm not a PC rookie!).
HELP!  Please oh please help!!!!  I'm getting aggravated!
    Thanks!

you're posting this all over the place aren't you??
have you tried flashing the yamaha firmware? remember the link i gave you?
have you tried a windows repair using the method i gave you?
