K7t turbo2/amd XP 1800! ack! help!

i recently bought a k7t turbo2 (ms-6330) to go with my amd xp 1800, im running 2x 512 and 1x 256 ram under winblows ME. and ever since day 1, i have random lockups when i try to move or copy files in windows, but if i use dos-prompt i can transfer files just fine...  also when i try to shutdown or reboot i get error from windows.   i have tried underclocking the cpu, swapping out the ram... i have installed all the most current drivers for everything and i am clueless what else to try...   i got a 300w amd certified psu, 20gig maxtor along with a 20gig seagate for drives.  i have disabled the onboard sound as well as the printer/serial ports... i run bare bones windows setup with no junk in the backround... have 3 case fans and amd certified cpu fan so i have eliminated temp problems, it happens whether the machine is warm or cold... i even tried upgrading the bios to 3.5 to no prevail...   i have no issues running any of my games from halflife to quake to diablo to everquest...  other than these 2 isuues, my systems just blazes with no issues...
any ideas?

Yank out some of that ram, like the 512k stick and then try it out . ME doesn't need all that to function. BIGDADDY51CT.USA

  • K7T TURBO2 Cooks XP 1800+

My friend recently purchased a MSI MS-6330 K7T TURBO2 SOCKETA KT133A mobo and a XP 1800+ CPU to upgrade his old PIII. Along with the mobo and cpu he also got a volcano 9 cpu cooler and a enermax 350W ps.
When it booted up for the first time it appeared to run fine, windows booted up no problem but as we quickly noticed the FSB was set to 100mhz so it was only running @1150mhz so we shut it down and pulled the jumper to change it to 133FSB. When we booted it back up the it said it was a 1800+ and before windows could boot up the screen went black. Some how the cpu got cooked, the bottom of it was all black. So we installed my Duron 800 and it ran fine. what I'd like to know is if it was a faulty cpu or if the mobo could of caused it? it seems like it happened when we changed the FSB

YEAH!! my Pc run fine for the past 2 days..Can be run at 2000+ and installed windows. But after two days, my com fail to boot up, even boot up at 100mhz fsb.My com fail to boot after i shut down my Pc. Only the heatsink fan is running...I already try to clear the cmos...remove the battery..still no joy..:'(

  • K7T Turbo2, AMD 2600 - wont recognize cpu correctly.

Hello everyone. Thanks in advance for any help.
I have the K7T Turbo2 W6330VMS with the latest bios, v3.6. I upgraded from an AMD Athlon +1700 (266 fsb) to a Athlon +2600 (266 fsb). I verified I had flashed the bios before installing the new CPU. I have since cleared the Bios and re-flashed it. Version 3.6 bios was the version that allows the Turbo2 to use +2400 and +2600 cpus.
Here is my problem: The system shows the CPU as a +2000 on bootup. It is running at 1660mhz, not 2133mhz. My bus is running at 133 mhz.
I have removed the CPU and verified the correct CPU was installed.
    AMD Athlon, AXDA2600DKV3C.
I have tried manually changing the multiplier and bus speed, but only drop the cpu speed doing this.
What do I need to do inorder to get this board to recognize the CPU correctly?
    Thank you.

    AXDA2600DKV3C 2600+ 2133MHz 16x 133fsb is the cpu you need
    notice the 16x multilpier
your cpu is using a 12.5 multilplier
    AXDA2600DKV3D 2600+ 2083MHz 12.5x 166 fsb
is what you have despite what any thing says
the 266 version of the xp 2600 is as rare as rocking horse doings

  • K7T Turbo2 Hangs on bootup..HELP!!

For some reason, my Turbo2 with the latest 3.6 bios stalls during the drive initialization bootup. In other words, while it scans for the drives, floppy, cdrom and harddrive during bootup the system would just hang. I would have to press the reset buttom for the system to reboot and would bootup just fine the second time.
Why is doing this? Other than the hanging up on the first bootup after the computer has been off, the computer runs just fine.
    Any ideas??
    Here are the specs:
    K7T Turbo2 w/ latest bios 3.6
    AMD Tbird 1.3ghz
    256mb PC133 SDRAM
    20gig maxtor HD
    TNT2 M64 32mb video card
    300watt inwin S500 case
    Guillemot Maxi Muse sound card
    100mb internal zip drive
    52x generic cdrom
    1.44 floppy
    Windows XP Pro with SP1

    Thanks Bas,
I flashed to the latest because the latest bios allowed my k7tturbo2 to support 2400+, and 2600+ amd XP cpus.  With the 3.5 it would only allow support up to only 2200+.   I don't have the 2400+ as of yet, on order at the momment.
    Thanks again.

  • MSI K7T Turbo2 + AMD Athlon XP 2600+

I have downloaded lastest BIOS for MSI K7T Turbo2 but i haven't able to run CPU at full speed (133x16=2128 MHz). And there's no multipler greater than 15 available...
currenlty i'm using 145xdefault (12,5) = 1812,5 MHz... has anyone solved this problem? CPU = AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (333)

    Oh bugger!
After posting this, I continued scanning and found the answer - and coming back here, I now understand BD51's answer.  Didn't sink in first time round!
Anyway, I have apparently purchased the 333fsb version, blissfully unaware that was a 266 version, and that THAT is the one I SHOULD have bought.
Ah well, that'll learn me to check the spec's more closely in future.
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

  • 6330v5.0 K7T TURBO2 Locking up. More help, please!!!

    So I've built this PC:
-->  6330 v5.0 MOBO (flashed with latest bios)
    -->  AMD xp 2100+
    -->  1500megs (3x512mg NCP pc-133)
-->  Zalman copper heatsink and fan
    -->  400w "enermax" PS
    -->  G3Ti200 Pro-VT128 (MS-8850)
-->  Various hard drives (20-60GB) and CD-ROM drives
If anyone has any suggestions or comments about what bios settings to use, I'm all ears.
My computer persistently hangs in the middle of games and applications (especially games).  It just stops responding and keeps the same screen from where it hung up.
It is possible that I have a sound card problem.  I'll keep you posted.  Writing this thread reminded me that I hadn't tried to remove that yet.
    Later, and TIA.
    the {PUNISHER}

Thanks for all your suggestions, unfortunately none of them solved my problem.
I previously had three hard drives in my system, but I now have only two.(both seagate, 1 20GB and 1 120GB)
I have also tried different ram in my system, and I have reinstalled my OS (Windows XP Pro).
I've updated drivers for damn near every piece of my system (video, sound, chipset, bios, cdrom drive bios), and ensured that my fsb jumper was set correctly.
I also bought a nice new THERMALTAKE xaser 2 case that has a ton of fans and a digital temp. probe, which I pushed up next to the base of my CPU's heatsink.  It says that my system is running at 44C and the bios reports 47C.  No heat problems, I guess.
I have optimized my bios settings for stability not performance. (no overclocking of anything).
On a whim, I decided to pull my old VOODOO 3 3000 videocard out of retirement and give it a shot at the prize.  With an obvious downgrade in graphics quality and speed, it produced the exact same hang as my GeForce3.  So, I guess that rules out video card problems.
Is it possible that by setting my FSB to 133 is pushing my AGP bus too far?  I don't see a way in the bios to adjust the ratio of FSB freq. to AGP freq.
Thanks, again, in advance for any suggestions that you may have.  Also, if you have any further questions about my situation, please feel free to email me [email protected]  (6 underscores)

  • K7T Turbo2 cold boot problem

    To all:
I recently replaced my old MB and CPU (Asus a7v133/AMD 850 Mhz T-bird) with a K7T Turbo2/AMD XP 1800+ Thoroughbred.  All of the other components are the same (see below), except the PSU.  I replaced my old one hoping that it would solve my problem.
When I cold boot the system the fans turn on but the system does not post and the monitor remains off.  If I hit the reset button on the case the system boots normally.  Also about 20% of the time the system emits a constant beeping (sounds like an alarm clock) when I cold start, which goes away when I hit the reset button.  I have also noticed that the system trys to boot when I flip the power switch on the PSU.  I don't know if this is normal with MSI boards, but my Asus would not boot until I hit the power button on the case.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dave
    System Specs:
    K7T Turbo2 (BIOS ver. 3.6)
    AMD XP 1800+ Thoroughbred

    +5V @ 45A Max output
    +3.3V and +5V Current = 225W

    -12V @ 0.8A Max output
    -5V @ 0.5A Max output
    +5VSB @ 2.0A Max output

    To all:
Thank you for all of your suggestions.  When I got home today I tried to boot up the system with only the 512MB RAM stick (Crucial Part #:CT64M64S4D) inserted in DIMM slot 1.  The computer responded as described in the first post of this thread.  I then tried the 256MB stick (Crucial Part #:CT32M64S8D75) in DIMM slot #1 and the system booted normally.  I then subsequently added the other sticks of RAM in the remaining slots (512MB in slot 2 and the 128MB in slot 3). I think the 128MB stick is hitachi but not 100% sure...it might be Diahatsu (my short term memory isn't too good).  I guess the 512MB stick did not seat well in DIMM slot 1.
However, my system still wants to boot up independently of the button on the case.  The system will power up once I flip the PSU switch to the on position.  I don't know if this is normal for MSI boards, but my Asus system would not boot until I pressed the case button. I must admit I am still unclear of the JFP1 wiring.  However, I have tried the power switch and reset switch wiring in all combos and this did not solve the issue. Is there a BIOS setting or jumper somewhere that I am missing?  Any more info would be useful.
    Thanks again for the suggestions!
    Dave
    P.S.
    Mauricio16,
Please read the entire thread before posting a response.  As I stated earlier, I DO NOT have a D-Bracket...yet, and I HAVE tried a different PSU.  Thanks for your suggestions though.  Luckily it was not as an exteme of case as it could have been.
I guess both of us have learned a valuble lesson from this experience.  When in doubt, reseat the RAM.

  • K7t turbo2 post beep codes

    hi:
i bought a k7t turbo2 mobo and 1800 athlon cpu (brand new), swapped a stick of used 512mb pc133 working memory from another pc and got the machine up into bios.  i stopped work for the evening came back the next day when i was going to reformat a drive and install an os.  before i got to that i scavenged up another stick of older memory to add in, added it, then booted, but no post.  reseated everything--same.  pulled the board and trimmed it down to the basics...mobo, cpu, memory, video.  same.  swapped a working video card.  same.  thinking it was a bad stick of memory---it was older---i purchased another stick new.  just put it in.  different result now though.  now, i get a one second beep on, then off for a second, then on ,then off.  continues repetively on-off.  reset the cmos.  pulled the battery.  no changes from this on-off beep.  not *exactly* sure what the problem is.   system seemed to be fine until i swapped the add'l stick of memory in.  i am/was very careful in all my tech work but could i have fried the motherboard with something innocuous as this?  or did i get a bad stick of brand new (kingston) memory?   i am beginning to feel like throwing good money after bad trying to debug this prob.  any idea of what this one second on, one second off beep means?  or how best to continue debugging without going out purchasing additional hardware just to test a theory?
thanks in advance for any help.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help. I foud the problem though. It was a faulty CPU. I know that I had swapped it out with my working AMD 1.4, but for some reason, this one would die once any load was put on it. I took my wife's 1.4 out and the mobo booted.
I just went out to ZipZoomFly (from Pricewatch) and bought two new AMD Athlon XP 1800+'s for $48 each. Hopefully they'll come in quickly and I can get my son's PC back to him before the end of his Christmas break. Thanks again all!

  • AGP 4x not working k7t turbo2

I've tried everything to get this to work. I updated my BIOS, VIA 4in1 drivers, I've tried the latest Nvidia drivers but rolled them back due to incompatability with my Tnt2, but nothing works. I searched this forum and found a regedit solution, the values it wanted me to edit were already in 4x mode but it is still reported in 2x mode. SANDRA reports that my Motherboard doesnt support 4x, but it says on the MSI site that it supports 4x and in the BIOS it has an option to enable 4x (which is enabled). I've done everything i can think of to fix this, tried several video cards, all run at 2x. The only thing I can thnk of that is lacking is my Power supply because its 250 W but how could that force 2x mode?
    K7t Turbo2
AMD Duron 1200 100 mhz FSB
    895 Mb Sdram

I've done several reinstalls of windows and all have the same problem. Rivatuner says my agp bus only supports 1x/2x but is agp 2.0 which is 4x as well. Hope this is of some help.

Tried all pci slots, turned off onboard usb, gameports, etc., updated drivers, tried different things in the bios. No luck. I am really aggravated as this modem connects really well and I don't want to just put it in the kid's computer! LOL

    Hi,
In your BIOS is a modem setting, and normally it's set to auto, what happens if you set it to disabled?

  • Help K7T Turbo2 :-(

Ok here we go I just got a new k7t turbo2 today and with it a amd xp 1800+ i've read about 100 post and almost all crashing problems are psu under power issues
i have a 330watt psu and it's new however if i turn 133fsb on my computer hangs before i even get done loading cmos.. i've killed one cpu and now i'm on my 2nd please what is going on? X(

I have the same problem and clearing and updating bios dun help me at all :(
When i put my +1800 on my turbo mobo i can boot up once but when i reboot it hangs and the screen never kicks in.
Then i pull the plugg for ~5 mins and i can boot again.
I have a 300Wps and no extra hd:s or cards so that shouldnt be a problem.
Ive tried it with both my old tnt2 video card and my new gf4ti4200 makes no difference.
And when running at 100fsb everything is working fine.
According to fizzy logic the temp never goes above 50C.
And i have the cooler on correctly with heating paste.

Try uninstalling the sound card and any other nonessential components. Also, when you uninstall click on the "show hidden" items and remove duplicates. Don't remove anything that you do not know exactly what it is including any marked "unknown" but if you see multiple sound cards or cd-roms, etc. remove them. Then see if you boot ok and gradually reinstall items.

  • K7t Turbo2 and an AMD Athlon XP 2600+

I recently flashed the BIOS on my K7t Turbo2 board to the 3.6 version which supports AMD Athlon XP processors up to 2600+.  However, after I installed the new cpu, set the core voltage to 1.65, the multiplier to 11.5 and the DCM value to 166 the computer would not boot.  Instead I received a simple "Beep" then two to three seconds later, another "Beep."  This continues to no avail and it takes almost ten "hard reboots" which is killing my hard disks to even get back into the BIOS configuration, wherein I modified the DCM settings to 133 instead of 166.  Now the computer boots but continues to tell me:
    Unknown Processor at 1533mhz
When I did get it to run at 1910mhz (notice 1910, not 1917 as it should be), it also said Unknown Processor.  Then, on one of the three ocassions I was actually able to boot the computer at the higher clock speed, none of my drives appeared.  On the second ocassion, the Linux boot process froze and on the third, Windows XP wouldn't boot.  Now, if anyone has any suggestions as to what BIOS settings I can try, or even resetting my BIOS to a previous version, then trying to reflash it, that would be great....  If, however, this is more of an issue with an MSI BIOS patch, please release another version that works.   Thanks much!

Go with the Tbred 2400+ bud, Thats what i have at the mo in my KT3 Ultra 2C, and with my old MSI ti4200 with 128mb, it kept up with a K7N2 Delta ILSR which is running a Barton 2600+ and an MSI FX5600XT with 256mb (that rig only beats me on the extra test in 2001se and 2003 that the FX card covers).
Cant wait for my K7N2 Delta ILSR to arrive to go with my Ti4600.
Should happily blow the Barton rig away

  • Need help with T-bred on K7T Turbo2????

I just got a K7T Turbo2, the one that supports all the way up to XP2600+ 266FBS cpu's.
    and I am trying to use a XP2100+ T-bred "B" in it.
and I can not select 133FSB.
every time I try it defaults back to 100FSB, heck I can select, pretty much any multiplier, but they are not right.
    if I pick 8X  I get 16X, if I select 13X i get 20X?????
it wont detect the cpu correctly and I cant select the correct settings manually.
I flashed to the latest bios already, and it does this with either bios.
It must be something simple, I just have never had a MSI board before and dont know my way around the bios very well yet???
Thanks for any help ahead of time.

I knew it was something simple, it has a 100/133FSB jumper J17 I have to set to 133FSB, DUH!!!
This is the first KT133A board I have had that you cant do this in the bios.
    oh well no biggie.
will change it when i get home.
and I found a 16X and a 20X multiplier so hopefully thuis thing will run my T-bred at 2.4GHZ of more and 150FSB or more.
