K7T Turbo2 and IDE2 controller problems

I purchased the subject Mainboard from a local retailer.  I am running a Athalon 900 with a Copper CPU fan, Case Fan and PS Fan.  The Hard drive is a IBM Deskstar 41gig Ultra DMA 100 drive.
Extras include a CD Drive and floppy.
Okay installation was a snap and when I fired up the system it would not locate the CD drive which was plugged into IDE2 socket.  The HD was there.
So I logically started a bit of troubleshooting of which was
Bios made sure IDE 2 was AUTO
Made Sure jumpers on CD were Master
Replaced Ribbon Cable.
No change
So a bit more advance Troubleshooting resulted in
Switching HD to IDE2 (NOT THERE)
Switching CD Drive to IDE1 (THERE) (GOOD DRIVE)
Switching IDE Ribbon Cables from IDE1 to IDE2 (Not there)
Okay so I called the Owner of the store, he said he would replace the mainboard.
Three Mainboards later I still have the same setup
IBM Drive is Master on IDE1 and CD Drive is Slave on IDE1 (NOTHING IS PLUGGED INTO IDE2 on the mainboard).
Since we were at his shop we tried three devices two on IDE1 and one on IDE2 the IDE1 devices worked but IDE2 was the same...
We scratched our heads and cannot believe he would get three bad boards especially since two of them came from a different shipment.
Any ideas?

Okay it seems like I may not have explained the entire problem.
The Problem is in the POST it does not recognize the drives and actually it has a problem even with multiple drives on ide0 channel.
Hope this helps bring more light into the problem.  I can never get the device to recognize therefore it will not show up in the OS.  (Which btw is RH7.3 running kernel 2.4.18-10)

  • K7T - Turbo2 and Athlon 2000+ problem

    Sorry for my english...
K7T Turbo2 - BIOS 3.6. Problem with Athlon 2000+. I can´t set the multilplier to 12.5, because there is only 12 - 13 step. When i set it to "Default" POST show CPU correctly as Athlon 2000+, but pc can´t be rebooted by ctrl+alt+del. Must be switched off and then on...
Second thing is... it´s impossible to install win98 or xp - blue death.
    With Duron 1.3 it´s working fine ...

    Hi,
I don't think ECC memory is supported by the Turbo2, it states "NO support ECC Function" on the MSI info page, look here
So, I'm not sure that ECC bios function will help you, or what it is really there for.
But, I guess this opinion will not explain why you said it will work with an duron 1.3
    Another thing is that the XP2000 uses more power than the duron 1.3, so your PSU sounds a bit weak for the XP2000 cpu;
    PSU 300W
    5V - 24A
    12V - 10A
    3.3V - 14A

  • Are the K7T Turbo2 and MS-6330 V5 the same MoBo

    Please some one help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a motherboard and on the motherboard the text say MS-6330 V5 and all i can find on msi homepage is a K7T Turbo2 MS-6330 v5 so is my mobo a k7t turbo2 ???????
    i am lost............ ?(
i flashed my bios at my own risk with the newest bios for k7t turbo2 and it works well as hell so my thought is that my ms-6330 v5 really are a k7t turbo2 am i right ??

    Hmm, I think 'MS-6330 V5' is the same as 'MS-6330 v5'...  :D
So go on and buy your new cpu.

  • K7t turbo2 and memory problems!!!

Hi guys. Need your help w/ this weird situation. I am plagued by hangups w/ my system. One of you told me that maybe my memory was bad so I bought a spanking new 256mb pc133 dimm SDRAM...and my comp still hangs.  When I use both of my 256 it still hangs when windows is about to start. Strangely, I could use my comp. w/ my original 256 w/ just occasional hangups..but since last week it hangs everytime windows xp pro or win2000 pro starts. I see the stuff loading and my desktop icons and then wham!! it freezes. But here's the funny thing...when i use my old 64mb pc100 mem it works perfectly, except that it is extremely slower..BUT NO HANGUPS. Now I'v crossed off several suspects off my list 1) my 256 mem sticks aren't bad cause the brand new one does the same thing as the older one, so there's no static or anything 2) my power supply s/d be ok it's 350W and even when i unplug all my drives and leave just 1 hard drive it still hangs w/ the 256 or 512 (mixed). So i'm wondering if it's 1) some config in the bios i need to tweak...but like i said it used to work fairly well w/ the 1st 256 untill recently or 2) my cpu is an AMD athlon 1333, which gives me 1ghz and it can only run at a clock of 100. if i unjumper J17, it can't run at 133. So i'm wondering if it's because my mem sticks are running at 133 but the cpu is 100..it causes a prob and thus hangs; and my 64 mb mem stick is at 100mhz..so it's the same clock speed as my cpu. But if that was it..how comes I used to run the 256 pc 133 w/ this same cpu w/ just hangups occasionally ..but now I can't start windows any at all??? any ideas w/d be welcomed. Also, could u tell me a couple athlon xp that u know for sure run at 133 mhz clock speed, eg: can the xp 1700 run at that. I have an MSI K7T turbo2, 2 hard drives (10G & 30G) winxp and win200, both pro..and an amd athlkon 1333 (not xp) :O  X(

What is the CAS latency rating of both your 256 stick ?
On the issue of running a pc133 ram in 100 it should work fine as u underclock the ram instead of over it.
    I am using k7t turbo2 rev 5.0 with 133 enabled.

  • K7T Turbo2 and new Athlon 1700

    Hello!
I have a K7T Turbo 2 motherboard with an AMD Duron 1200, which ran fine. I recently purchased AN AMD Athlon 1700+ so that I could take advantage of the 133 FSB on the board rather than the 100 FSB of the Duron.
The first thin I did was flash the Bios to version 3.4. I then removed the J17 jumper on the board to run at 133fsb. When I first restarted the computer, everything seemed to be fine. Then I started to receive an error message that stated “Pagefault_in_nonpaged_area” and had to reset. Sometimes I received the message after a full boot and others while booting and became more frequent. At one point I needed to reset the power supply because the reset was not working and I then received a boot error that told me that system files are missing or corrupt. I have had this problem before and had to reformat after a power failure reset my system.
Next I tried to reformat and reinstall Windows XP Pro and started having problems there. I am ready to start over and would like to ask for some advice or see if there is any known issues or conflicts with my setup. I also have Powerquest Drive Image and have an image from about a month ago. Do you think that it would be feasible to use it?
I am running an AMD Athlon 1700+ on a K7T Turbo2 with 768mbs Kingston PC133 Ram, 2 Maxtor 40g hard drives, 300 watt Allied PSU, Radeon 7200 32mbs Graphics card, 56k modem, Satellite internet.
    Thank you,
    Hank

I finnaly got the Athlon 1700 to work. It seems that my Cd Rom drive lens was dirty and I had the "crap in, crap out" syndrome. It was not the power supply nor the Ram, it was faukty software that was read by a CD Rom that I have not cleaned in 3 years...lol.....a recommendation, clean your components ofter.
I am yet to see the final outcome, but so far no crashes. I set up a dual boot, Win 98 and XP Pro machine now and seems to run great thus far.
I apprecate all of your help and input in this matter!

  • K7T Turbo2 and Athlon XP 2400+

    Hello everyone !
I have a question about K7T Turbo2 motherboard and BIOS update.
Here it goes:  I reacently bought Athlon XP 2400+ and installed it on my mobo.
But after reboot my PCU wasn't recognised and I read on MSI website that I had to
upgrade my BIOS from 3.5 to 3.6 ( I think, don't remmeber the version ) . So I did that too
and this time bios showed my CPU as XP 1800+. I said there is something wrong with CPU or
they gave me a wrong one, but NO. After reading the manual I realised that that XP 2400 uses
266 insted of 100 ( standard that came with mobo )and that I had to remove J17 jumper to make it
work and also had to change options in BIOS --> like FBS 133 and multiplier 15  to get XP2400.
Reason that I'm expling what I did is to let you know what stuff I did before I came to this forum to
ask a Q. Anyway after all of that fuss PC works and shutdowns OK. But ( yeah there is a but ) now insted
of starting at once I need to press power button one time -> and you can here power starting and lights
showing but system not starting. Then I push and hold button for a few sec to shut it down. After
second push of power button system starts as normal. It looks like it need a bit of warm up ( like my car in winter time ) before it actuali start. Is this a BIOS error becouse it can't start the system with ONE
push of the button? Never had tha problem with Duron CPU and old BIOS. Need some help ..
    Thanks

    Hi!
I think I solved your problem! It seems that I had exactly the same problem and the same settings you have. Then, I read this Trouble Shooting Guide at:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=1131&sid=
    which says:
"As for mulipliers with AMD CPU's, just set them Automatic, as they are hardcoded on the CPU themselves and will allway's be correctly, even if if you think the BIOS doesn't know it."
So I changed the multiplier from BIOS from 15 to Default, and now it starts up great even at the first time! Even my CPU benchmark score with PCMark2002 free went up from 5195 to 6344 so now it actually works much better than with the multiplier 15!!
Try this before buying a new PSU and tell if it helps...
    Regards,

  • K7T Turbo2 and XP2400

I discovered that they now rate the K7T Turbo2 as compatible with a 2400XP thoroughbred, but I installed one and it is recognized as an xp1800.
This is a 266FSB throughbred 2400XP and I've flashed the latest bios, but the clock wont go beyond 15 x 100MHz.
Has anyone else had this problem?  Is there an obvious solution that I'm overlooking?

Thanks, I checked the online manual and you're right.
Also, kudos for such a quick response.
I had a 1400 tbird, the heatsink fan started making noise so I replaced it.  I didn't put the heatsink on very firmly and promptly melted down the cpu.  This upgrade will last me a bit longer until I have to change out the whole thing.

  • K7T Turbo2 low RAM voltage problem?

    Hello
    I just purchased a K7T Turbo2 6330v5 mainboard.
I have a standard singlesided 256Mb/PC133 RAM module.
I installed FuzzyLogic 4 and it shows a RAM voltage of 2.5V,while I thought all PC133 chips needed 3.3V.........
I have a fresh Win98SE install and the computer keeps freezing up,usually happens either when it enters Windows or after about 15 minutes and I have a couple of programs running.
The BIOS shows 3.46V on the 3.3V supply.
All voltages are within range in the BIOS.
    any help appreciated
     ?(

Problem seems to be solved, and it wasn't the RAM voltage.
The onboard audio and/or drivers for that was causing the problem.

  • [URGENT] MSI K7T Turbo2 patched 3.6 Problem

SORRY TO POST IT AGAIN ON THIS FORUM.. ITS QUITE URGENT
Hi! I've been using MSI K7T Turbo2 with my Athlon 1700 XP.
So far no problem with the configuration.. And I did update the BIOS to v3.6
However, when I sold the mobo to someone, who's using a Duron 700 processor, he told me that he couldn't get the system to boot. Not even see the startup BIOS screen.
After that, he tried to clear the CMOS data by jumper and tried restarted, this time everything is fine. But later he found that, with this method, he CAN ONLY BOOT ONCE. Meaning if he saved anything in BIOS, it wont be saved actually. And also after he cleared the CMOS data and reinstalled Windows, when Windows restart the PC, the same old problem occurred (cannot start PC)
As Duron is running at FSB 100MHz, he did set the jumper J17 closed (100MHz). But same problem happens. Then we suspect that it has something to do with the BIOS patch that I applied (v3.6). Could it be, after applying the bios patch (when I was using Athlon 1700 XP), the bios remembers that the processor is Athlon 1700 XP and does something (eg, removed the 100MHz feature?) that caused the motherboard now DOESN'T boot with Duron 700?
    Any suggestion?
If so, where can we find the original bios for flashing back to previous version?
    TQ!

what kind of system specs does the pc now have that he has it?  Is the heatsink mounted properly and is the fan plugged in?  I doubt the PSU should have any problem with that cpu.  How about the ram?  try swapping it out and replacing it.
I would try removing everything that isn't essential to boot into Windows. Have only the cpu, ONE stick of ram, hard drive, cdrom drive, and graphics card.  Remove modems, NICs, Raid cards, extra ram sticks, extra IDE devices, disable the onboard sound (remember that there are two values to do this with in the BIOS and both must be disabled).  Try booting then.  Then check if you can boot normally.  If so, one of the pieces of hardware you removed is the problem.  If not, something is wrong physically or in the configuration of the remaining hardware.  Give that a go.  If things go okay, plug in one piece of hardware at a time and retry.  You'll hit a snag sooner or later.
BTW, I don't think the board still thinks an athlon xp 1700+ is still in it.  In the Frequency and voltage controls, you might try setting the FSB, multiplier, and Vcore manually.

  • Need help w/ K7T Turbo2 and mobile Athlon 2600+/266

    Hi.
I just bought a new Mobile Athlon 2600+/266 and can't quite get it to work right in my trusty Turbo2. It shows up during post as "Unknow CPU 800MHz", which is a little disappointing. (it is stable at this speed, though) My previous chip in this same board was an Athlon 1200/266 (A1200AMS3C), so everything worked at 133/266 before.
I've updated the BIOS to the most recent, checked that J17 is clear, stripped the box down to cpu + hd + 1 stick ram, and still no dice. All of my CMOS voltage/peripheral settings are at default.
The voltage/frequency menu in the BIOS correctly detects the chipset at 133MHz. When I tried to manually bump the freq multiplier to 15x, I actually saw a decrease in reported processor down to "Unknow CPU 733MHz". When I knocked it down to 14x, it dropped proportionally (to 667, I think). This makes me think that the freq multipler is correct at default, and that it's something else that's going wrong. I don't know what, though.
Is the problem that the chip is Mobile? My last guess is to try to up the voltage, but I didn't want to melt anything before checking with some experts.
I'm not looking for overclocking, just to get it running the 2.133 GHz that it was advertised at.
    Thanks much,
    -Clint
    System specs:
    Mobile AMD 2600+/266
    K7T Turbo2 (latest BIOS)
    ANTEC 350W model PP-352X
    2x Micron 256MB PC133 (48lc32m4a2)

Does that board have a BIOS setting for FSB, as well as having the J17 jumper? I know a couple people with those boards, but never played in the BIOS to see. It sounds like it is actually trying to use 66MHz X 14, 15 or whatever Multiplier you are setting. Those Mobile chips are not Multi-locked like the normal CPUs are, and may be next to impossible to get set up on these older boards.

  • K7T Turbo2 and ATI 9600?

    Greetings All,
I am considering an ATI 9600 video card and was wondering if it would work with the K7T Turbo2? I read that it requires APG 4x (1.5 volt) and could not find any mention of the voltage for the AGP slot on the Turbo2. It does say that it is AGP 4X but no mention of volts. I would just hate to get the card and fry it. Thanks for your advice.
    Dave

Good choice - no problems to be expected  :D

  • K7T Turbo2 (MS-6330) Booting problems

Last night, I installed an Athlon XP 1700+ on my K7T Turbo2 mobo. I can not boot into Windows now. Windows XP will hang on loading up mup.sys, and 98 resets at an indeterminate time. I cannot install Windows 98 or XP either, as both hang on the setup (Before I can even access recovery mode for XP). I've swapped out all my PCI devices, disabled nearly everything in the BIOS, etc... nothing good. Heres what I've got.
    Athlon XP 1700+
    K7T Turbo2 Mobo
    ATI Radeon 9000 128mb
ATI Radeon 7200 32mb (Secondary Display)
    Creative Labs Soundblaster (Live!)
1280 Megs of PC133 RAM (PNY)
    Linksys 10/100 PCI Ethernet Card
    Maxtor 60GB HD 7200
    Maxtor 12GB HD 7200
    Seagate 10GB HD 5400
    Buslink 52x24x52 CDRW
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Do I need to set my FSB to 133 so I can use the 1700? I have updated my BIOS to the latest version. How would I increase the FSB?

    Welcome
Shutdown and remove jumper J17 (see manual - jumper near ram slots). If no boot, clear CMOS and try again. Be sure to use Fail Safe Defaults for install.
You've got a really heavy load, and hope your PSU is up to it. Do you have at least 200-220 combined watts on +3 and +5 circuits of PSU (see PSU label or maker's site).

  • K7t Turbo2 and an AMD Athlon XP 2600+

I recently flashed the BIOS on my K7t Turbo2 board to the 3.6 version which supports AMD Athlon XP processors up to 2600+.  However, after I installed the new cpu, set the core voltage to 1.65, the multiplier to 11.5 and the DCM value to 166 the computer would not boot.  Instead I received a simple "Beep" then two to three seconds later, another "Beep."  This continues to no avail and it takes almost ten "hard reboots" which is killing my hard disks to even get back into the BIOS configuration, wherein I modified the DCM settings to 133 instead of 166.  Now the computer boots but continues to tell me:
    Unknown Processor at 1533mhz
When I did get it to run at 1910mhz (notice 1910, not 1917 as it should be), it also said Unknown Processor.  Then, on one of the three ocassions I was actually able to boot the computer at the higher clock speed, none of my drives appeared.  On the second ocassion, the Linux boot process froze and on the third, Windows XP wouldn't boot.  Now, if anyone has any suggestions as to what BIOS settings I can try, or even resetting my BIOS to a previous version, then trying to reflash it, that would be great....  If, however, this is more of an issue with an MSI BIOS patch, please release another version that works.   Thanks much!

Go with the Tbred 2400+ bud, Thats what i have at the mo in my KT3 Ultra 2C, and with my old MSI ti4200 with 128mb, it kept up with a K7N2 Delta ILSR which is running a Barton 2600+ and an MSI FX5600XT with 256mb (that rig only beats me on the extra test in 2001se and 2003 that the FX card covers).
Cant wait for my K7N2 Delta ILSR to arrive to go with my Ti4600.
Should happily blow the Barton rig away

  • K7T Turbo2 and XP 2600+

Hi all, I have a K7T Turbo2 Motherboard with the latest Bios. I have just replaced the XP 1800+ Chip with an XP 2600+ one. I have set the CPU clock to 133Mhz but the computer will only run at 2000+ maximum, any help would be greatly appreciated,

The core speed of the 2600+ is 2083Mhz or 2133Mhz, not 2600Mhz as suggested by the name. AMD logic
Going any higher than those specified clock speeds is overclocking and might result in an unstable system. You might get it somewhat stable by tweaking the cpu vcore voltage and stuff.. but this is generally not recommended

  • K7T Turbo2 and illegal opperations

running K7T turbo2 (BIOS v.3.6) with AMD XP1600+ processor (shows as "unknow" type 1600+ during POST) and i am getting illegal operations out the wazzu.  OS is Win98SE.  Always the exact same error regardless of the application that falls victim "error in module at 0000:606045DF".  Being the exact same error each time tells me it is a hardware issue as opposed to a software issue.  Installed componants are just bare minimum for operation, AOpen GF4 MX440 vid card, WD 40G ATA100 HD, unknown brand 128MB PC-100 RAM.  no conflicts listed in the windows device manager.  I have tried with different RAM of the same brand and type with no change, both ram sticks and got registry errors.  Tried with Kingston PC-133 256MB and the system will constantly reboot (different issue I am sure) but if it stays running long enough I get the same illegal operation error.
heat is not an issue, on all my trips to CMOS, the temp has never been above 42C
anyone have any other thoughts?  I think I have narrowed it down to either the motherboard or the processor

did not clear CMOS before installing the CPU as it was the first to be installed on this board but have cleared CMOS since as part of the trouble shooting, when first building the system I neglected to remove the bus speed jumper and it would not even get to the POST but I can try that again if it will not damage anything.  I am also talking to Kingston about the pc-133 ram (those errors might be a bad stick)
can not get the new updates because the system will not run error free for long enough, aslo I am getting some access errors with the wondows update site requireing an administrator login when I have never setup a password on the system (again an unrelated issue)
also since the my initial post I have tried a differetn power supply and it ran longer before giving me that error
