K7T Turbo2, changing CPU

I have a MSI K7T Turbo2 motherboard.
I'm changing my CPU from a Athlon (thunderbird) 1200 to a Athlon XP 2400+ Thoroughbed.
I've update my BIOS driver to version 6.30.
From what I've read in the CPU support page,  the ratio is automatic.
Dos that means that I just have to change the CPU and the moterboard will know the speed and the FSB? Or do I have to change something on the moterboard or in the BIOS?
Thank You

Not the fsb, you have to select fsb133 manually (please read the manual about this). The multiplier is recognized automatically.
Btw: Bios version 6.30?

Newest version is 3.6.

  • K7T Turbo2: Unknow CPU type: 1733MHz

    Hi, I have a K7T Turbo2, 1.5Gb PC133 DRAM.  Athlon XP 2100+ CPU (1733 Mhz)...
Is there a reason the BIOS is not reporting this as a Athlon XP 2100+ ?
    Bios Version: W6330VMS V3.5 070102 16:32:18
    Thanks,
    Soil

The AMD 2100+ CPU is not a 2100 Mhz. CPU, As my 2000+ CPU is a 1600 Mhz., your's a 1733 Mhz. When system is booting, you should see your CPU. recognized as 2100+. If not, check FSB to be sure is set at 133.

  • K7T Turbo2, AMD 2600 - wont recognize cpu correctly.

Hello everyone. Thanks in advance for any help.
I have the K7T Turbo2 W6330VMS with the latest bios, v3.6. I upgraded from an AMD Athlon +1700 (266 fsb) to a Athlon +2600 (266 fsb). I verified I had flashed the bios before installing the new CPU. I have since cleared the Bios and re-flashed it. Version 3.6 bios was the version that allows the Turbo2 to use +2400 and +2600 cpus.
Here is my problem: The system shows the CPU as a +2000 on bootup. It is running at 1660mhz, not 2133mhz. My bus is running at 133 mhz.
I have removed the CPU and verified the correct CPU was installed.
    AMD Athlon, AXDA2600DKV3C.
I have tried manually changing the multiplier and bus speed, but only drop the cpu speed doing this.
What do I need to do inorder to get this board to recognize the CPU correctly?
    Thank you.

    AXDA2600DKV3C 2600+ 2133MHz 16x 133fsb is the cpu you need
    notice the 16x multilpier
your cpu is using a 12.5 multilplier
    AXDA2600DKV3D 2600+ 2083MHz 12.5x 166 fsb
is what you have despite what any thing says
the 266 version of the xp 2600 is as rare as rocking horse doings

  • K7T Turbo2 No Bootup

i just bought the MSI K7T Turbo2 MS-6330 v5. i'm using the AMD 2000+. i was using a 350w power supply. didnt boot up. i thought it was the extra 4 pin power supply thing (that p4's have) which was the problem. i went out and bought a 400w power supply with the extra 4 pins. still didnt work. i then wondered if it was my cpu, so i tried a working AMD Tbird 1.33ghz from a different machine. still no luck. The D-Bracket gives me 4 red leds on both occassions. i know its not my cpu. i know its not my power supply. i also changed the video card from a gf2 gts to an ati 8500. no luck there. i can never get to POST. nothing ever comes on screen. a friend with same board had similar problems not getting into POST and fixed it by setting FSB from 133 to 100. he was using a Duron 950 though. i tried this method, still no luck. i've tried just about everything i know, and cant get it to work. any other tips? should i contact msi and send this board back?

already did so Bas. i've built a few computers in my time, have run into many problems, but never anything like this. when i first ran into the problem, i read on the troubleshooting first, when that didnt work, i tried switching the various cpus/psu/gpu/memory. still didnt work. then i started from the beginning, broke out the mobo manual, and did it step by step. still no luck. i'm kinda pissed cuz i bought a new psu ($67, although i wouldve needed it eventually), sort-of new gpu ($40 ati radeon 8500), new cpu ($104 AMD 2000+ because i thought my previous AMD 2000+ was fried), memory ($56 PC133 PNY 512MB). i've tested the mobo with 2 cpu's (the tbird 1.33ghz and amd 2000+, am waiting for my new amd 2000+ to come in), 3 gpu's (radeon 8500, gf2 gts, tnt2 ultra, all agp), different arrangement of memory (512mb pny + 512mb kingston value ram dimm slot 0+1 and vice versa, 512mb pny alone dimm slot 0, 512mb kingston alone dimm slot 0), and with various psu's (350w antec, 250w generic, 400w powmax w/the extra 4pin adapter that mobo optionally requires). still no luck. after all this, i'm thinking i may have ordered a bad mobo, i dunno though. please help  :D

  • K7T Turbo2 ver5.0 won\'t reboot

I just recently bought a K7T Turbo2 (MS-6330) motherboard and I'm having a problem with it rebooting.  I can't get the board to do a warm reboot.  It works fine if I turn off the power and then turn it back on but even changing the BIOS settings won't allow it to reboot.  I'm building this computer for someone and I will not give them a computer that won't reboot!!!  I've tried to contact MSI techinical support and they have never answered me (through E-mail).  I've read some other posts (in other forums) about problems with the EXACT same thing happening due to a chipset problem (KT133A)  If anyone has had this problem or knows a solution please respond.  here are my Spec:
    K7T Turbo2 ver5.0
    AMD Athlon 1200MHz (200MHz) CPU
AMD (Cooler Master) provided CPU Cooler
    Matrox G400 Graphics card
    2  x 64MB Crucial PC-133 Memory
P.S.  I've tried other (known good) memory and graphics cards and I still have the same problem.

Well after waiting two weeks to get my replacement back from MSI I got another bad board.  I haven't talked to their tech support about it yet but I think I'm going to get a different board from another manufacturer.  In addition I'm going to make to STOP suggesting anymore MSI motherboards and I will definitely not choose them for my upcoming System upgrade.  Just for reference.
The new board will not even POST.  Or turn on for that matter.  I checked all the jumpers.  Unplugged everything else from the board except video, memory and processor (all proven good by another system).
I'm sick of playing with this company and I have a computer to build for someone.  They just lost a formerly loyal customer.  I'm not spending my money to ship it back again.
    P.S.
I assume whoever sent back a KT333 motherboard and left the manual and D-Bracket in the box is going to be upset because they shipped my motherboard back in that box with the manual and the D-Bracket inside.  May as well let things bounce around in the box during shipping the BOARD WAS DEAD ANYWAY!!!!!!!

  • K7T Turbo2 won't boot

ok, here goes  I have a MS-6330 K7T Turbo2 mobo, 256m RAM 20G Western Dig HDD NVidia GEForceMX420 64mg vid card AMD Duron 900Mhz proc.  I started and it won't post, fans spin but nothing else.  Cleared CMOS and it'll boot, but not RE-boot without clearing the CMOS again.  I've checked the mobo to make sure it not grounding out.  tried taking everything else off the mobo and it still won't post.  I've taken the battery out for 10 mins, and checked it..shows good on Multimeter. I tried flashing the Bios to v3.6..no change, wouldn't post so, now I'm back to the original v3.3 because if I want to USE my computer, I first have to clear the CMOS, load defaults and then it'll boot up fine.  if I've missed something PLEASE fill me in...this thing has got me COMPLETLEY stumped.  If it's the motherboard I'll just buy another one rather than go through the hassle of trying to prove it's still under warranty.  Help me out fellas!!  PLEASE!! ?(

wow....... this is a mirror image of what happened to me almost....  to put it blunty... sounds like mobo is dying...  or the cpu is dying.... but ....
did u just build this computer or did this just start up recently???  the mobo has some serious issue of POSTing when it's first installed and i have absolutely no idea why..
also...   check your hsf on your cpu and c if it's it mounted properly.  another thing.. r u changing anything in the bios???
    Ed.
P.S.  yes.. don't bother to rma. it'll take u about a month and a half to 2 months rma'ing..  i currently hate msi for how they handle my rma...

  • K7T TURBO2 Cooks XP 1800+

My friend recently purchased a MSI MS-6330 K7T TURBO2 SOCKETA KT133A mobo and a XP 1800+ CPU to upgrade his old PIII. Along with the mobo and cpu he also got a volcano 9 cpu cooler and a enermax 350W ps.
When it booted up for the first time it appeared to run fine, windows booted up no problem but as we quickly noticed the FSB was set to 100mhz so it was only running @1150mhz so we shut it down and pulled the jumper to change it to 133FSB. When we booted it back up the it said it was a 1800+ and before windows could boot up the screen went black. Some how the cpu got cooked, the bottom of it was all black. So we installed my Duron 800 and it ran fine. what I'd like to know is if it was a faulty cpu or if the mobo could of caused it? it seems like it happened when we changed the FSB

YEAH!! my Pc run fine for the past 2 days..Can be run at 2000+ and installed windows. But after two days, my com fail to boot up, even boot up at 100mhz fsb.My com fail to boot after i shut down my Pc. Only the heatsink fan is running...I already try to clear the cmos...remove the battery..still no joy..:'(

  • K7T turbo2 boot freeze

I recently got a K7T Turbo2 board with AMD Athlon XP 2000+ cpu. I got the board working but I got the message that my bios was too old. I flashed the bios with no errors and could boot my machine with no problems. I entered the bios but I stupidly changed the clock speed from 133 to 166. After saving the bios the machine started, checked the memory, recognized the disks/cdrom and it stops. I cleared the cmos and I think it's set back to clock speed 133 ( I have a pci hardware monitoring tool RD2) but the system still freezes. I also couldn't get back into the bios. Now I found out that when I skip the memtest I can get in the bios but then it still freezes. The strange thing is that the leds (numLock) on the keyboard still work but I can't use it in the bios.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !

166 was a severe OC and you could have damaged the bios chip as a result of the OC  http://www.badflash.com will get you a new chip. that 300 watt P/s could be a little light causing you some problems also.BD51 :D

  • K7T Turbo2 and Athlon XP 2400+

    Hello everyone !
I have a question about K7T Turbo2 motherboard and BIOS update.
Here it goes:  I reacently bought Athlon XP 2400+ and installed it on my mobo.
But after reboot my PCU wasn't recognised and I read on MSI website that I had to
upgrade my BIOS from 3.5 to 3.6 ( I think, don't remmeber the version ) . So I did that too
and this time bios showed my CPU as XP 1800+. I said there is something wrong with CPU or
they gave me a wrong one, but NO. After reading the manual I realised that that XP 2400 uses
266 insted of 100 ( standard that came with mobo )and that I had to remove J17 jumper to make it
work and also had to change options in BIOS --> like FBS 133 and multiplier 15  to get XP2400.
Reason that I'm expling what I did is to let you know what stuff I did before I came to this forum to
ask a Q. Anyway after all of that fuss PC works and shutdowns OK. But ( yeah there is a but ) now insted
of starting at once I need to press power button one time -> and you can here power starting and lights
showing but system not starting. Then I push and hold button for a few sec to shut it down. After
second push of power button system starts as normal. It looks like it need a bit of warm up ( like my car in winter time ) before it actuali start. Is this a BIOS error becouse it can't start the system with ONE
push of the button? Never had tha problem with Duron CPU and old BIOS. Need some help ..
    Thanks

    Hi!
I think I solved your problem! It seems that I had exactly the same problem and the same settings you have. Then, I read this Trouble Shooting Guide at:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=1131&sid=
    which says:
"As for mulipliers with AMD CPU's, just set them Automatic, as they are hardcoded on the CPU themselves and will allway's be correctly, even if if you think the BIOS doesn't know it."
So I changed the multiplier from BIOS from 15 to Default, and now it starts up great even at the first time! Even my CPU benchmark score with PCMark2002 free went up from 5195 to 6344 so now it actually works much better than with the multiplier 15!!
Try this before buying a new PSU and tell if it helps...
    Regards,

  • K7T Turbo2 and XP2400

I discovered that they now rate the K7T Turbo2 as compatible with a 2400XP thoroughbred, but I installed one and it is recognized as an xp1800.
This is a 266FSB throughbred 2400XP and I've flashed the latest bios, but the clock wont go beyond 15 x 100MHz.
Has anyone else had this problem?  Is there an obvious solution that I'm overlooking?

Thanks, I checked the online manual and you're right.
Also, kudos for such a quick response.
I had a 1400 tbird, the heatsink fan started making noise so I replaced it.  I didn't put the heatsink on very firmly and promptly melted down the cpu.  This upgrade will last me a bit longer until I have to change out the whole thing.

  • K7t turbo2 + front side bus

i recently bought an msi k7t turbo2 and athlon xp 1700+, but when i boot up it only shows it as an athlon 1100mhz, i've asked a few friends and they told me to set the fsb to 133. i checked in the manual how, and it says to change the jumper however the diagrams weren't too informative (or i just didn't catch the drift), i was hoping somebody could explain in a little more detail

    I have the same problem...
I have a k7t turbo xp1800 gf4ti4200 300Wps(one HD and nothing else to steal power) the cpu temp is >50C and the cooler is put on correctly.
And when putting the fsb to 133 i can boot up once then it will hang after ~15 mins. And if i reboot before that nothing happens the screen is just black.
Then i have to take the power cord out and leave it out for 5 mins then i can boot again but it hangs after ~15 mins.
But when running at 100fsb everything is working perfectly but the cpu is running slower of course.
I dont undestand why this is happening and its driving me nuts

  • K7t turbo2 post beep codes

    hi:
i bought a k7t turbo2 mobo and 1800 athlon cpu (brand new), swapped a stick of used 512mb pc133 working memory from another pc and got the machine up into bios.  i stopped work for the evening came back the next day when i was going to reformat a drive and install an os.  before i got to that i scavenged up another stick of older memory to add in, added it, then booted, but no post.  reseated everything--same.  pulled the board and trimmed it down to the basics...mobo, cpu, memory, video.  same.  swapped a working video card.  same.  thinking it was a bad stick of memory---it was older---i purchased another stick new.  just put it in.  different result now though.  now, i get a one second beep on, then off for a second, then on ,then off.  continues repetively on-off.  reset the cmos.  pulled the battery.  no changes from this on-off beep.  not *exactly* sure what the problem is.   system seemed to be fine until i swapped the add'l stick of memory in.  i am/was very careful in all my tech work but could i have fried the motherboard with something innocuous as this?  or did i get a bad stick of brand new (kingston) memory?   i am beginning to feel like throwing good money after bad trying to debug this prob.  any idea of what this one second on, one second off beep means?  or how best to continue debugging without going out purchasing additional hardware just to test a theory?
thanks in advance for any help.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help. I foud the problem though. It was a faulty CPU. I know that I had swapped it out with my working AMD 1.4, but for some reason, this one would die once any load was put on it. I took my wife's 1.4 out and the mobo booted.
I just went out to ZipZoomFly (from Pricewatch) and bought two new AMD Athlon XP 1800+'s for $48 each. Hopefully they'll come in quickly and I can get my son's PC back to him before the end of his Christmas break. Thanks again all!

  • K7T Turbo2 and illegal opperations

running K7T turbo2 (BIOS v.3.6) with AMD XP1600+ processor (shows as "unknow" type 1600+ during POST) and i am getting illegal operations out the wazzu.  OS is Win98SE.  Always the exact same error regardless of the application that falls victim "error in module at 0000:606045DF".  Being the exact same error each time tells me it is a hardware issue as opposed to a software issue.  Installed componants are just bare minimum for operation, AOpen GF4 MX440 vid card, WD 40G ATA100 HD, unknown brand 128MB PC-100 RAM.  no conflicts listed in the windows device manager.  I have tried with different RAM of the same brand and type with no change, both ram sticks and got registry errors.  Tried with Kingston PC-133 256MB and the system will constantly reboot (different issue I am sure) but if it stays running long enough I get the same illegal operation error.
heat is not an issue, on all my trips to CMOS, the temp has never been above 42C
anyone have any other thoughts?  I think I have narrowed it down to either the motherboard or the processor

did not clear CMOS before installing the CPU as it was the first to be installed on this board but have cleared CMOS since as part of the trouble shooting, when first building the system I neglected to remove the bus speed jumper and it would not even get to the POST but I can try that again if it will not damage anything.  I am also talking to Kingston about the pc-133 ram (those errors might be a bad stick)
can not get the new updates because the system will not run error free for long enough, aslo I am getting some access errors with the wondows update site requireing an administrator login when I have never setup a password on the system (again an unrelated issue)
also since the my initial post I have tried a differetn power supply and it ran longer before giving me that error

  • Need help with T-bred on K7T Turbo2????

I just got a K7T Turbo2, the one that supports all the way up to XP2600+ 266FBS cpu's.
    and I am trying to use a XP2100+ T-bred "B" in it.
and I can not select 133FSB.
every time I try it defaults back to 100FSB, heck I can select, pretty much any multiplier, but they are not right.
    if I pick 8X  I get 16X, if I select 13X i get 20X?????
it wont detect the cpu correctly and I cant select the correct settings manually.
I flashed to the latest bios already, and it does this with either bios.
It must be something simple, I just have never had a MSI board before and dont know my way around the bios very well yet???
Thanks for any help ahead of time.

I knew it was something simple, it has a 100/133FSB jumper J17 I have to set to 133FSB, DUH!!!
This is the first KT133A board I have had that you cant do this in the bios.
    oh well no biggie.
will change it when i get home.
and I found a 16X and a 20X multiplier so hopefully thuis thing will run my T-bred at 2.4GHZ of more and 150FSB or more.
