K7T Turbo2 Overclocking question

Can i adjust the processor voltage without unlocking it first?
i'm using AMD AthlonXP 2000+ T-Bred A

yes, but wicked unstable because of the overclocked agp, the screen would have white rectangles where the ads should be and that kinda thing. by moving down a little at a time, I was able to leave it @150 and have it run fairly well. by changing to my little guy, 1500Xp I was able to squeak a couple of more fsb ,but I still moved it back to 150 ,as that was the sweet spot Funny thing about it was, that I was running 3 different brands of ram, and still could get it up there ,but it was more stable with just 1 stick, and the Kingston was CL2 so I chose that. They weren't expensive ram either, Apacer and Centon from Circuit City. Closer examination of the ram showed up the fact that they were all Infenion chips. I was also using a modified version of 98se that allows up to 1 gb of ram. I have since loaded one with XP and still does excellent @150FSB and 2 sticks 256 Kingston CL2. I was gonna try PC150 but this little test showed that was a waste of money. This was with a FUTUREPOWER400watt P/S I think trying anything bigger would still give you problems as you have no way to lock pci/agp from the OC like a kt3 or KT4 has and hardware don't like OC as 1 dead harddrive will tell you. • Turbo2 overclock question

Ive had my turbo2 for a few months now with the amd xp2100+, and no problems. My question is how high have you guys with the turbo 2 and a xp2100+ overclocked? Rate now i have my muliplier is deflut and my fsb is at 140. The core voltage is defult.
So is this good or can i go way up there in speed?

    Hi,
Make sure you have a good cooler on your processor and is seated properly w/ Thermal Compound. Remember overclocking is not recommended at all.

  • XP 2000 T-Bred K7T Turbo2 overclocking problem(multiplier)

I've updated the mobo with the Latest BIOS 3.6 and still the multiplier doesn't do what it should do...
I have the new athlon XP 2000+ with Thoroughbred core
    512mb PC133 Kingston
when i changed the multiplier to 14 with 133FSB(default)
it gave me 770mhz ... what the? it should be 14x133 = 1862Mhz.
Maximum overclocking i could reach was 150FSB x default multiplier which gave me 1875Mhz. but then it will display artifacts while doing heavy processing tasks and i suspect that those visual artifacts were coming from the overclocked FSB to 150 which will at the same time overclock my memory to PC150( my memory can't handle that!)
My overclocking can only be done correctyl by changing the mobo's FSB which in fact is limited by the VIA chipset controller and my memory overclocking capability.
Any help or fixes will be appreciated.

  • K7t turbo2 question

I have k7t turbo2, in the bios i noticed that the fsb can be overclocked to 166, so why cant it support the newer athlons that run at 166/333? if its because of ram or something, would it be possible to get some pc-150 ram, and overclock that slightly?

I believe that it has something to do with the power on the board and being able to sustain that power to run the 166fsb cpu's without overclocking the chipset.  Remember, that overclocking without long-term stability is useless.  I think that they are just covering themselves.  Also, the chipset is not spec'd to run at 166, they are just going by what the chipset supports.

  • K7t Turbo2..Do I have a bad one?

Am new to the forums and MSI, but have been building and repairing 'puters for a few. Have a new K7T Turbo2 MS 6330 bios v 3.4 My question is: Is this a bad MBO, or is it in need of a bios update or something?
THE PROBLEM: Incomplete POST, stalling with no detection of a primary master hard drive (master slave is not connected at this time). Statement at stall is hard drive failure.
    SYSTEM BUILD: K7T Turbo2 Board 6330 Bios v. 3.4, AMD Athlon 900 mHz, (3) 256K Mwave memory, 430W Antec TruePower ATX12V True 430, 40GB IBM ATA 100 7200RPM or 8GB Seagate ATA 33, 3dLabs 4x AGP 32MB VX1 Oxygen, Smartlink 10/100 NIC, onboard audio, Creative Labs 4X CDR
    NEC Zip100, Mitusmi Floppy
DIAGNOSTICS: Tested the HD and IDE 80 pin connector in another system. They were OK. Tried an old Seagate 8 GB ATA33 with no alteration in MBO response. IDE cable is connected to the MBO blue connector with the blue primary IDE connector. The first or master connector at the other end is attached to the HD. Tried HDD jumpered as a master and cable select with no alteration in response. The secondary IDE devices (CDR and Zip100) do detect in the POST. Tried disconnecting the secondary devices from power and the MBO- no alteration in response at POST. I'M STUCK
Any thoughts or suggestions on this mess?

HI It seems like you have pretty much covered all the bases. One other suggestion, Did you try to reset ESCD in bios? You seem to know pretty much what you are talking about. I have had both my TURBO2s for about a year now and both perfornm excellent but I am using 3.2 and 3.0 bios Escd resets the bit string and reconfigs the rig. Its located right under the Pnp line in bios just enable save and exit and try to reboot If it works, you will get a success on the bottom of the 2nd or third boot page. My older build has a WD drive going bad and once in a while I get this same no detect. When it does happen I just shut down by P/s switch.and turn it back on. You might also want to try a new cable as it don't take much for a poor connection .I hope this helps and if it don't rma the board as I don't think  you left much out could be a bios chip going bad or something about 3.4 as that was for support of a 160gb drive and may be causing you some grief. Best of Luck,BIGDADDY51 CT USA edit: What are you getting for an led message when the stall occurs ? This may help with your diagnosis.

  • K7T Turbo2 - how do I tell BIOS to boot from USB?

I have an old K7T Turbo2 system, and I'm trying to install Windows 7 on it.  I guess that's my first question - am I going to run into any nasty problems running W7 on this board, other than RAM limitations?  I have a version of "Tiny7" (which installs from CD-ROM) installed already and it seems fine, but I'd rather run a fuller non-pirated OS, and that means installing from a DVD/iso.  I don't have a DVD drive installed and it would be a bit of a pain to acquire one, so I'm hoping to boot from USB to winstall W7.
I have a PCI USB2.0 card installed in the system, which seems to work fine.  I've set the BIOS to boot from USB-FDD (but I've also tried USB-CDROM and USB-ZIP).  I have BIOS 3.6.  I've tried booting from the PCI USB2.0 hub (will that ever work or does the BIOS not recognize it?) and from the regular USB1 port on the mobo (but my USB flash drive is USB2).
Is there something else I need to do in the BIOS to get this to work?  Will it never work no matter what I do?
I read somewhere about a BIOS setting to "enable legacy USB support" but can't see anything like that in my BIOS settings.
    Any suggestions?  (thanks in advance)

If there is no option to boot from USB-HDD then it may never work.
Long shot I know, but what if you connect your USB drive, then power on your system, and press F11 when the logo/POST screen appears, does the drive show in the Boot Menu that appears?

Really? DVD drives are very common, and cheap as chips! You can pick up a brand new DVD writer, for the price of a (good) DVD movie.

  • K7T Turbo2 and Athlon XP 2400+

    Hello everyone !
I have a question about K7T Turbo2 motherboard and BIOS update.
Here it goes:  I reacently bought Athlon XP 2400+ and installed it on my mobo.
But after reboot my PCU wasn't recognised and I read on MSI website that I had to
upgrade my BIOS from 3.5 to 3.6 ( I think, don't remmeber the version ) . So I did that too
and this time bios showed my CPU as XP 1800+. I said there is something wrong with CPU or
they gave me a wrong one, but NO. After reading the manual I realised that that XP 2400 uses
266 insted of 100 ( standard that came with mobo )and that I had to remove J17 jumper to make it
work and also had to change options in BIOS --> like FBS 133 and multiplier 15  to get XP2400.
Reason that I'm expling what I did is to let you know what stuff I did before I came to this forum to
ask a Q. Anyway after all of that fuss PC works and shutdowns OK. But ( yeah there is a but ) now insted
of starting at once I need to press power button one time -> and you can here power starting and lights
showing but system not starting. Then I push and hold button for a few sec to shut it down. After
second push of power button system starts as normal. It looks like it need a bit of warm up ( like my car in winter time ) before it actuali start. Is this a BIOS error becouse it can't start the system with ONE
push of the button? Never had tha problem with Duron CPU and old BIOS. Need some help ..
    Thanks

    Hi!
I think I solved your problem! It seems that I had exactly the same problem and the same settings you have. Then, I read this Trouble Shooting Guide at:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=1131&sid=
    which says:
"As for mulipliers with AMD CPU's, just set them Automatic, as they are hardcoded on the CPU themselves and will allway's be correctly, even if if you think the BIOS doesn't know it."
So I changed the multiplier from BIOS from 15 to Default, and now it starts up great even at the first time! Even my CPU benchmark score with PCMark2002 free went up from 5195 to 6344 so now it actually works much better than with the multiplier 15!!
Try this before buying a new PSU and tell if it helps...

  • K7T Turbo2 and XP 2600+

Hi all, I have a K7T Turbo2 Motherboard with the latest Bios. I have just replaced the XP 1800+ Chip with an XP 2600+ one. I have set the CPU clock to 133Mhz but the computer will only run at 2000+ maximum, any help would be greatly appreciated,

The core speed of the 2600+ is 2083Mhz or 2133Mhz, not 2600Mhz as suggested by the name. AMD logic
Going any higher than those specified clock speeds is overclocking and might result in an unstable system. You might get it somewhat stable by tweaking the cpu vcore voltage and stuff.. but this is generally not recommended

  • K7T TURBO2 (mandrake linux)

OK running the K7T TURBO2 mobo in my system with a 800 MHZ Duron.I downloaded Mandrake Linux 9.1 and looking to install it.My question is.Does anyone know if this version of mandrake will have the drivers for this  board and say for the sound or are they out there for me to download.Linux newbie here so want to make sure when i install I do it right the first time.Thank You

    Hi,
I think that it should be no problem to run Linux with a Turbo2. I think I would wait a few weeks until 9.2 is freely available, btw
You will probably find more information at:

  • Newbie ? Are these settings normal for K7T Turbo2?

    Greetings All,
First I would like to say I really enjoy this forum. I have learned much. Also I would like to say that I am fairly new at putting together systems so if my questions are basic please forgive me. Thanks for your patience and your willingness to teach. OK, here is my system and my questions:
    K7T Turbo2 v.5
    Duron 800
    2 sticks 128meg = 256
PSU Sparkle 300w; 150w combined (according to sales slip)
    Asus 7100 Geforce 2mx 32 meg
    SB 128 pci sound card
    Western D 80gig special
    Acer 52x CD
    LiteOn 48x12x48
    Win 98se
    Most curent VIA drivers
I think that about covers it.
    The questions:
    1) I have seen a lot of discussion about voltage seetings so I am wondering if mine are normal? They are as follows:
    Vcore = 1.55v
    5v = 5.05v
    3.3v = 3.27v
    12v = 11.60v
    2) This may need to be in the BIOS group but what are the optimum seetings for this board and my stuff?
    3) When I boot up I notice that just about all my hardware is using IRQ11. Is this normal?
    4) A while back I saw a lot discussion about ACPI. Is it best to use it or not? If you turn it off do you have to reload your OS?
I think that about does it for now. Thanks again for your help.
    Dave

    Ian,
Not that I am very technical and do sometimes get mixed up in my own settings...
I got a canon A1 and use the easy set up for HV 1080i50 on interlaced footage
and 1080p25 for the '25f' footage. When using the de-interlaced filter I hit the
upper field and I am having a major headache from time to time with sequence
settings and field dominance in particular with interlaced footage but do experiment
quiet abit to my even larger frustration. I do find the '24f' frames quite pleasant to
look at - maybe it is just because it is easier to work with I dont know, but interlaced
got a reputation of being difficult.
Likewise as far as I am aware then the '25f' canon setting is as good as progressive
some will even say 'same'. check out more here

  • K7T TURBO2 DOES NOT SUPPORT HIGH DENSITY RAM

     X(
It took three weeks of digging, but I finally found out why my MS6330 v5.0 continues to crash when I try to play games on it.
Despite what MSI says about this board supporting the AMD ATHLON XP 2100+, the K7T TURBO2 does not.  In fact, AMD doesn't recommend any motherboard that uses 168 pin ram for use with processors XP 2100+ and above.
Needless to say, I'm very disappointed with MSI.  I've built my entire system around this motherboard, I bought a gig-and-a-half of PC-133 ram for this computer!
If I hadn't done any homework, and just went out and blindly bought components and hoped it would work, well then I would deserve to have a junk system.  However, that is not the case here!  I read (before I bought anything) MSI's compatability charts, and I'm well within the parameters stated there.
I just thought that I'd let any potential buyers know this info, so they can save themselves some grief.  This seemed to be a very mysterious situation in my previous posts, I have a hard time believing that this forum has never seen problems with this configuation before.

Here is a link to NCP's website:
    http://www.hexon.com.sg/hexon_tech/products/desktop_sdram.asp
Also, you should know that I LOVE working with my computer's hardware and other technical components.  I don't often find myself with this level of frustration when doing these kind of procedures.  Using a methodical step-by-step approach and keeping documentation of these steps usually uncovers the inherent problems of building your own system in a matter of a few hours, perhaps even days...   but not months.
As you have suggested, I have, of course started with a barebones system (1 ram, lots, of fans, default bios, 1 hdd-fdd-cdrom) and these problems do not go away, even with the most basic settings.
This is what I've determined by using my AMD Tbird 1.4 CPU on the same motherboard, with the FSB jumper back in:  The motherboard is not defective.  I can run everything that I'd like to with this different CPU in.  Whether the problems I'm seeing with the XP 2100+ are caused by changing the FSB to 133 or not, I'm not certain.  However, changing the cpu and the FSB are the only changes that need to be made to see these problems return.
By the way, I can overclock the hell out of my CPU and get my computer to boot too.  It just doesn't solve the problems I'm having, so I don't bother -- yet
I've tried a different video card, and I get the same trouble.
I've tried my ram in another system (one at a time and all together) and run memtest86 on it for 25 hours.  No trouble there.
My PSU serves up 220 Watts across the 3.3v and 5v outputs.  This seems sufficient.
I have a total of 9 high output fans in this system, and my CPU runs at a balmy 56 C while running the distributed.net client.  ( I ran it overnight, with no problems)
Obviously, this is a graphics related problem, and adjusting texture detail directly affects the amount of time that passes before the game hangs or crashes.  Less is more, if you know what I mean
I've read that this is a known issue with older VIA chipsets.  The article was a little dated though, about 18 months ago.
If there is anything that I'm missing, please let me know.
I'll write more details later, if you'd like to help me troubleshoot this problem.

  • K7t Turbo2 Shutdown Temperature Issue

    Hello All, noob question:
I use my computer mostly for playing games.  I play Warcraft III, Dungeon Siege, and JediKnight2 mostly and while I am playing sometime or another my computer will reboot in the middle of the game.
From reading the manual under the PCHealth section I assume this has to do with the Shutdown Temperature setting reaching a certain point and rebooting my computer to save it from frying my components.  I have a standard case with two fans in it, thermal grease between the cpu and the heatsync but other than that I have limited knowledge of anything else that may contribute to this problem.
The first thing I tried was replacing the video card which stopped Warcraft III from rebooting but caused both Dungeon Siege and JediKnight2 to now reboot.  I changed the resolution in Warcraft III to a higher resolution and now it reboots too.  This confirms to me that it is a heat issue.  What should I buy or do to alleviate my problem?  Thank you so much for all your help in advance.
    My components are:
    AMD Athlon 1800XP
    MSI K7T Turbo2 Motherboard
    512MB PC133 Ram
    Volcano 5 Heatsync
    Nvidia Geforce2 MX 400 64MB & Riva TNT2 Turbo 32MB
Seagate 20GB 7200 RPM hard drive
Texas Instruments IEEE 1394 Controller Card
    Lite-on 32x10x40 CDRW
    Memorex 48x CD-ROM
    2 fans
    Viewsonic 19" E790 Display
and a partridge in a pear tree

    Hi!
Well, it can be a heat problem, it could be a problem with your PSU also ...
About heat: from the list of components, I do not see a clear reason why there should be a heat problem - it all looks pretty normal to me  :]  Do you have any idea about the temperatures in your system? Temps can be readin BIOS, but more convenient with the program MBM 5 which can be downloaded at http://www.livewiredev.com.
I think (not sure, though) that temperatures of the video card can be read with a program called rivatuner - it can be downloaded here.
About the PSU: can you tell a little about brand & specs?

  • K7T Turbo2 - Processor?

    Howdy everyone,
Not really a technical question, but if anyone could answer it, it would be here.
I have a K7T Turbo2 that can at most support the Athlon XP 2600+ with the 266mhz FSB.  I am trying to upgrade this thing and "max it out"  The only problem is I can't find this processor for sale anywhere to save my life.  I really want to hold on to this board and keep things simple.  I got a deal on 1.5 GB of PC133 RAM from a friend, so getting a new processor would finish the job.  Anyone know where I can get this processor at?
    Thanks

lol, if you know what your looking for, and know how to find it, then ebay is your friend!! last week i bought an epson stylus inkjet printer for my lady friend, for just £20, with spare ink carts and in full working order. now i am going looking for an MSI Mega 180....

  • Does K7T Turbo2 mobo support 48-bit LBA

In the "sticky" troubleshooting post theres a link to determine what harddisks your motherboard support.
    The link is:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/hdd_support/hdd/spt_hdd_list.php?CHIP=Archives&ID=4
But it is a dead link.  Is there a newer link?  I tried searching the MSI web site and can't find the information I need.
I have an K7T Turbo2 (bios v3.6) motherboard and use Windows XP (SP1a and all updates) and would like to install a 200 GB WD hard drive.  Does this motherboard support 48-bit LBA for HDDs over 137 GB in size.
    MUCH THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

Since I could not find any good awnser here I e-mailed MSI support and got this awnser.
    107-041214025RE: Harddrive limitations on MSI K7T Turbo2 motherboard ?
Question: Does the K7T Turbo2 motherboard have 48Bit harddrive adressing in
    BIOS ???
    Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting MSI Technical Support.
This board supports 48-bit LBA. It can support up to 160G or higher HDD.  Please refer to this link for more information about your issue: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q303013 then try again.  And you are recommended to use WinXP SP1 or Win2000 SP4.
Please feel free to let us know if you still have any further issues or inquiries.
    Best regards,
    MSI Technical Support
This means, that the motherboard supports all drives of any size thats out there, and you other people talking about limitations are wrong, as long as the bios has 48bit LBA support the only limitation is by the operatingsystem but not by the hardware.
Reason im posting this is for others to find it so they dont have to ask the MSI support.

  • K7T Turbo2 - CD ROM not responding

Hello, and welcome to my blundering efforts. After reformatting with a fresh instal of Win98 I installed the VIAHyperion4in1453v.exe chipset drivers and immediately lost my CD ROM. Device manager sez it is there and working properly. Any attempts to use it have resulted in "L: is not accessible. Device is not ready." Now I wish I knew what the four options are in the 4in1 installer, I just checked them all, more the better right?
One clue - In the device manager there is a DMA checkbox in Properties>Settings>Options for the CD ROM. DMA was something I checked when the 4in1 installer was installing.
(Hint: I do not know what DMA is.)
I have tried removing the CD ROM via device manager but upon restarting I did not see the OS detect it and add it again.
Anything else I should be looking for?
    Brandon

hey, thanks Wonkanoby. Worked like a charm. May the force be with you.
    Next question!
The graphics card details on the k7t turbo2 page say:
    AGP Specification Compliant
    Supports AGP 2.o 1x/2x/4x
I would like to maximize my graphics card power but I dont want to pay for more than I can use. Does anyone have suggestions as to which card will do this for me or where a good place to ask is?
