K7T Turbo2 PCI Problem

Motherboard: MSI K7T Turbo2 MS-6330 Ver5.0
Bios: 3.6
Chipset Driver: 4.43
Processor: AMD 1800+ XP
RAM: 256MB SDRAM PC133
HDD: WD800JB 80GB
CDROM: Generic 50x
CDRW: Lite-On 40x12x48 LTR40125S
With Windows XP Home or Windows XP Pro, I cannot install any PCI devices. I have tried a modem, NIC and a Soundblaster live.  It sees the device, and knows what it is, but fails to install.  I have tried different PCI slots. I have tried just about every BIOS setting (and yes I disabled the integrated modem, either though there is no integrated modem) but can't figure it out.
With Windows 98SE, no problem installing PCI devices. I did use a different hard drive to test WIN98, but I don't think that would matter.
Does anyone have any ideas?  I can't seem to get through to tech support (no surprise there).
Thanks,

Thank you for the advice, but that's not it. I did what you said.. pointed to either the CD or floppy. Even with the soundblaster, XP new it was a soundblaster and tried to install it's driver, but no luck.
I'm going to try different versions of the VIA chipset drivers today and see what happens.

  • K7T Turbo2 Post problem

Hey all, first time here. I am trying to fix my son's computer for Christmas. His old mobo went dead and I picked up a K7T Turbo2 at the local shop. Details below:
    K7T Turbo2 mobo - Award BIOS v6.00PG (W6330VMS v3.7)
    AMD Athlon 1.4
    2 x PC100 128MB ram
AGP GeForce4 MX (tried Rage 128
    WD 40GB hdd
    Standard 52x CD
    Macron PSU 300W
When booting the first few times, it acts like it wants to boot, gets through post and tries to access the hdd - but never gets to any MS booting screen (XP loaded on hdd) - screen just goes black. I turn it off and back on and it gets to the point where it does the HDD check and freezes. The diagnostic LED stops on #1 red and the rest green (manual says boot attempt, but it hasn't even done a hdd check yet). I take it down and back up again several times. Sometimes the LEDs stop on #2 red and the rest green (manual says floopy init).
I took the board back to the shop and got another with the same results. I have tried different AMD 1.4 (from a known working PC), different PC100 128MB sticks and PC133 256MB sticks. I've tried booting with only minimal parts attached (no hdd or cd) with the same results. The only thing I can think of is the PSU is not strong enough. I've tried plugging in the little 12V piece and not using it with the same results. HELP!!!!  Tomorrow is Christmas and my son is going to be very disappointed. TIA!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help. I foud the problem though. It was a faulty CPU. I know that I had swapped it out with my working AMD 1.4, but for some reason, this one would die once any load was put on it. I took my wife's 1.4 out and the mobo booted.
I just went out to ZipZoomFly (from Pricewatch) and bought two new AMD Athlon XP 1800+'s for $48 each. Hopefully they'll come in quickly and I can get my son's PC back to him before the end of his Christmas break. Thanks again all!

  • K7T Turbo2 (6330v5) problem (with locked Tbreds)

    Hi,
I've recently bought a K7T Turbo2 board (6330v5) OEM version (green PCB) made probably for Fujitsu-Siemens UK. They probably didn't need those board anymore and sold them (a lot of wholesalers have them in my country now).
Anyway I think the board I bought is damaged, but I not sure.
    The problem is that it won't POST with locked T-breds. I've tried a 2000+ (3rd week of 2004) and a 2400+ locked T-bred (46th week of 2003) and the PC haven't started.
But with a T-Bird 1400Mhz, a 1700+ and 1800+ Palomino (probably locked) and 2400+ unlocked T-bred the board started without any problems.
Is this the problem with new XP processors (produced after the 39th week 2003 and internally locked) and this board or I have a damaged board?
    TIA,
    Max

Well, I didn't know it was the OEM version when I was buying it...  But in this case I don't think the bios is the problem. The board looks virtually the same as the normal board.
    And it boots with a pre-39 (24th week of 2003) T-bred 2400+, so it's not a lack of compatibility with T-bred issue.
For me it seems that this board has problem with T-bred made after the 39th week of 2003 (internally locked ones).
So I need to know if all of those boards have the same problem, or only this one?
BTW. Currently I'm running my unlocked T-bred 2400+ on a Abit KT7A board, and I've tried the same locked T-bred 2400+ that failed on MSI K7T Turbo2 on my abit board and it also didn't boot. So maybe there's something wrong the KT133A chip which makes KT133A boards incompatible with new locked T-breds?
Of course the locked T-bred runs fine on a KT400 board or a nforce2 ultra400 boards...

  • K7T Turbo2 RAM problems

I'm having some problems getting an extra RAM stick to work on my MSI K7T Turbo 2 (ms6330) motherboard.
When I only have one RAM stick (512MB, Apacer, UNB PC133 CL2) installed everything works fine. But when I insert another RAM stick, EXACTLY the same, the whole system becomes very unstable..
I've noticed that when I use
    RAM slot 1 and 2
    or
    RAM slot 2 and 3
I get "blue screen" error message 10 seconds after starting to boot into the OS.
    When I use
    RAM slot 1 and 3
and put CAS Latency in the bios to 3, I can boot into the OS, but the whole system seems slower and it's also unstable.. freezes within minutes..
What could be causing this to happen? I saw on newsgroups another guy with similar problem - he had also installed another ram stick and had lockup problems with his system:
    http://tinyurl.com/7yvi
    My system:
    OS :
Windows XP Pro / WIndows 2000 (both have same problems)
    Hardware:
    AMD XP2000+ CPU
    ATI Rage 2 PCI GFX-card
    Seagate 60GB HD
    D-link Wireless PCI Network card
    Plextor 40/12/40 CDRW
    Asus DVD ROM
    2 (HOPEFULLLY) 512MB, Apacer, UNB PC133 CL2 RAM-sticks
    300W PSU
    Latest bios v3.6
CPU is running at normal speed, FSB 133 MHZ.
Does anyone have a clue to what is causing the problem when I insert that extra RAM stick ?
    Thanks for all help.
    Regards,
    Tom.

I have similar problem when i used 3 or 2 512 stick combination last time. All 3 stick work perfectly with the fourth stick when i was using my old Abit Ka7 mobo. It's seem to have problem with this mobo. I also dunno why. now i only resort to use 256 only.

  • XP 2000 T-Bred K7T Turbo2 overclocking problem(multiplier)

I've updated the mobo with the Latest BIOS 3.6 and still the multiplier doesn't do what it should do...
I have the new athlon XP 2000+ with Thoroughbred core
    512mb PC133 Kingston
when i changed the multiplier to 14 with 133FSB(default)
it gave me 770mhz ... what the? it should be 14x133 = 1862Mhz.
Maximum overclocking i could reach was 150FSB x default multiplier which gave me 1875Mhz. but then it will display artifacts while doing heavy processing tasks and i suspect that those visual artifacts were coming from the overclocked FSB to 150 which will at the same time overclock my memory to PC150( my memory can't handle that!)
My overclocking can only be done correctyl by changing the mobo's FSB which in fact is limited by the VIA chipset controller and my memory overclocking capability.
Any help or fixes will be appreciated.

yes, but wicked unstable because of the overclocked agp, the screen would have white rectangles where the ads should be and that kinda thing. by moving down a little at a time, I was able to leave it @150 and have it run fairly well. by changing to my little guy, 1500Xp I was able to squeak a couple of more fsb ,but I still moved it back to 150 ,as that was the sweet spot Funny thing about it was, that I was running 3 different brands of ram, and still could get it up there ,but it was more stable with just 1 stick, and the Kingston was CL2 so I chose that. They weren't expensive ram either, Apacer and Centon from Circuit City. Closer examination of the ram showed up the fact that they were all Infenion chips. I was also using a modified version of 98se that allows up to 1 gb of ram. I have since loaded one with XP and still does excellent @150FSB and 2 sticks 256 Kingston CL2. I was gonna try PC150 but this little test showed that was a waste of money. This was with a FUTUREPOWER400watt P/S I think trying anything bigger would still give you problems as you have no way to lock pci/agp from the OC like a kt3 or KT4 has and hardware don't like OC as 1 dead harddrive will tell you. • K7T Turbo2 Sound problems

When playing music like MP3's, CD's or windows-sounds it always plays the music/sound with lots off cracking, background noise
I've reïnstalled all the related drivers, updated most of them, with no result. I've tested with other loudspeakers and also with no result.
Could it be, that the build-in sound-hardware on the motherboard  is broken?
Or is it the little jack-connector on the board that give's the noise?
How can I find-test the origin for this sound-issue ????

    Hi Pietro,
I know you already reinstalled and updated drivers but it might still be a driver problem - you might again fiddle a bit with the drivers ...
Also (have been looking for that, but I cannot find the actual thread), I think I remember someone with comparable problems which were solved after updating the (video!) drivers, so you could end up doing some more updating of drivers (always make sure that you follow the instructions, sometimes the old drivers need to be uninstalled first)...
Sorry that I cannot be more specific at present,

  • MSI K7T Turbo2 WEIRD problem!

Hi, I know this board is a bit old, but still ...
    I have a strange problem.
When I power on my PC I can see the BIOS version and the processor type. The the boot screen stops. The machine then reboots and I get the same screen back on (seeing only the processor type).
I tried reseting the bios, changing RAM banks. Same problem. I have 2 sticks od SDR RAM.
The funny thing is, if I wait like 10 minutes the booting of windows begins. I then have to wait another 10 minutes and Windows XP are booted. Then everything works OK (HDD ok, dvdrw OK, sound ok, USB works, LPT1 works etc..).
If I reboot the PC again, I have to wait another 20 minutes and - WIndows XP is booted.
    Whan could be wrong?
    Thanks.
    Sebastijan

    Hello!
Please tell us PSU specs too, found on a sticker inside case, on the noisy box.
It's not that old, I think, but have you ever updated BIOS.
    - Hey! Be careful you get the right BIOS!! I think this is for your board, but please check and double check, and read description for each update version.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=24&kind=1
Other than PSU and BIOS, it could also be IDE config is not as good as could be. If possible, have the hard disk(s) on different channel than CD, DVD etc. Master disks whether HDD or CDRW, should be at the end of the cable. What is the brand of your HDD?

  • MSI K7T Turbo2 Boot Problems

I recently setup a computer with this board.  It is a AMD Athlon XP 1700, 256mb pc133, 40GB HD, Geforce4 MX440, Sound Blaster Live, and a 300watt power supply.
I set everything up and turned it on and the led's in the back were all red and the machine was making a clicking sound.  I disesembled it checked everything resasembled it and the same thing happened.  Is the board bad or the processor?  Any suggestions?  I need to know if I need a RA on the processor or the motherboard.

thing is all they care is that psu will run their xp
they do not also chuck in high end high power drawing video cards
nvidia will tell you a 250 watt psu is good enough for a gf4 but not what cpu was in system as well
but then they probabley use a 300 celeron whilst proving it not an xp 2400 and bare bones on the rest

  • K7T Turbo2 (MS-6330) Booting problems

Last night, I installed an Athlon XP 1700+ on my K7T Turbo2 mobo. I can not boot into Windows now. Windows XP will hang on loading up mup.sys, and 98 resets at an indeterminate time. I cannot install Windows 98 or XP either, as both hang on the setup (Before I can even access recovery mode for XP). I've swapped out all my PCI devices, disabled nearly everything in the BIOS, etc... nothing good. Heres what I've got.
    Athlon XP 1700+
    K7T Turbo2 Mobo
    ATI Radeon 9000 128mb
ATI Radeon 7200 32mb (Secondary Display)
    Creative Labs Soundblaster (Live!)
1280 Megs of PC133 RAM (PNY)
    Linksys 10/100 PCI Ethernet Card
    Maxtor 60GB HD 7200
    Maxtor 12GB HD 7200
    Seagate 10GB HD 5400
    Buslink 52x24x52 CDRW
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Do I need to set my FSB to 133 so I can use the 1700? I have updated my BIOS to the latest version. How would I increase the FSB?

    Welcome
Shutdown and remove jumper J17 (see manual - jumper near ram slots). If no boot, clear CMOS and try again. Be sure to use Fail Safe Defaults for install.
You've got a really heavy load, and hope your PSU is up to it. Do you have at least 200-220 combined watts on +3 and +5 circuits of PSU (see PSU label or maker's site).

  • K7T Turbo2 low RAM voltage problem?

    Hello
    I just purchased a K7T Turbo2 6330v5 mainboard.
I have a standard singlesided 256Mb/PC133 RAM module.
I installed FuzzyLogic 4 and it shows a RAM voltage of 2.5V,while I thought all PC133 chips needed 3.3V.........
I have a fresh Win98SE install and the computer keeps freezing up,usually happens either when it enters Windows or after about 15 minutes and I have a couple of programs running.
The BIOS shows 3.46V on the 3.3V supply.
All voltages are within range in the BIOS.
    any help appreciated
     ?(

Problem seems to be solved, and it wasn't the RAM voltage.
The onboard audio and/or drivers for that was causing the problem.

  • K7T - Turbo2 and Athlon 2000+ problem

    Sorry for my english...
K7T Turbo2 - BIOS 3.6. Problem with Athlon 2000+. I can´t set the multilplier to 12.5, because there is only 12 - 13 step. When i set it to "Default" POST show CPU correctly as Athlon 2000+, but pc can´t be rebooted by ctrl+alt+del. Must be switched off and then on...
Second thing is... it´s impossible to install win98 or xp - blue death.
    With Duron 1.3 it´s working fine ...

    Hi,
I don't think ECC memory is supported by the Turbo2, it states "NO support ECC Function" on the MSI info page, look here
So, I'm not sure that ECC bios function will help you, or what it is really there for.
But, I guess this opinion will not explain why you said it will work with an duron 1.3
    Another thing is that the XP2000 uses more power than the duron 1.3, so your PSU sounds a bit weak for the XP2000 cpu;
    PSU 300W
    5V - 24A
    12V - 10A
    3.3V - 14A

  • K7T Turbo2 Sound Driver Problem

I just installed a K7T Turbo2 motherboard for my #2 system and am having a problem installing the VIA sound driver.  The system freezes up before it finishes the installation and once I reboot the Device Manager says that since Windows stopped responding when trying to start the device, it wouldn't attempt to start it again.
I've tried new drivers (both sound and chipset), tried reinstalling the drivers a few times, made sure the sound card was active in the BIOS, and even removed a couple of extra spacers from under the mobo so I just have them on the four corners.  Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    z-man
    Windows ME
    MSI K7T Turbo2 (ver 5.0)
    AMD Athlon 1100
    256MB PC133 Corsair
    Elsa Erazor-X

I think during the course of trying to get it to work, it requested the gm16.dls file.  However, I think I finally got it installed from the Windows disk.  Could this still be causing the problem?
Also, I tried out my SB Live! card from my primary system - the drivers installed and the card worked fine.  I would prefer not to have to buy a seperate sound card, if I can get the on-board one working.
    Thanks again,

  • [URGENT] MSI K7T Turbo2 patched 3.6 Problem

SORRY TO POST IT AGAIN ON THIS FORUM.. ITS QUITE URGENT
Hi! I've been using MSI K7T Turbo2 with my Athlon 1700 XP.
So far no problem with the configuration.. And I did update the BIOS to v3.6
However, when I sold the mobo to someone, who's using a Duron 700 processor, he told me that he couldn't get the system to boot. Not even see the startup BIOS screen.
After that, he tried to clear the CMOS data by jumper and tried restarted, this time everything is fine. But later he found that, with this method, he CAN ONLY BOOT ONCE. Meaning if he saved anything in BIOS, it wont be saved actually. And also after he cleared the CMOS data and reinstalled Windows, when Windows restart the PC, the same old problem occurred (cannot start PC)
As Duron is running at FSB 100MHz, he did set the jumper J17 closed (100MHz). But same problem happens. Then we suspect that it has something to do with the BIOS patch that I applied (v3.6). Could it be, after applying the bios patch (when I was using Athlon 1700 XP), the bios remembers that the processor is Athlon 1700 XP and does something (eg, removed the 100MHz feature?) that caused the motherboard now DOESN'T boot with Duron 700?
    Any suggestion?
If so, where can we find the original bios for flashing back to previous version?
    TQ!

what kind of system specs does the pc now have that he has it?  Is the heatsink mounted properly and is the fan plugged in?  I doubt the PSU should have any problem with that cpu.  How about the ram?  try swapping it out and replacing it.
I would try removing everything that isn't essential to boot into Windows. Have only the cpu, ONE stick of ram, hard drive, cdrom drive, and graphics card.  Remove modems, NICs, Raid cards, extra ram sticks, extra IDE devices, disable the onboard sound (remember that there are two values to do this with in the BIOS and both must be disabled).  Try booting then.  Then check if you can boot normally.  If so, one of the pieces of hardware you removed is the problem.  If not, something is wrong physically or in the configuration of the remaining hardware.  Give that a go.  If things go okay, plug in one piece of hardware at a time and retry.  You'll hit a snag sooner or later.
BTW, I don't think the board still thinks an athlon xp 1700+ is still in it.  In the Frequency and voltage controls, you might try setting the FSB, multiplier, and Vcore manually.

  • K7T Turbo2 cold boot problem

    To all:
I recently replaced my old MB and CPU (Asus a7v133/AMD 850 Mhz T-bird) with a K7T Turbo2/AMD XP 1800+ Thoroughbred.  All of the other components are the same (see below), except the PSU.  I replaced my old one hoping that it would solve my problem.
When I cold boot the system the fans turn on but the system does not post and the monitor remains off.  If I hit the reset button on the case the system boots normally.  Also about 20% of the time the system emits a constant beeping (sounds like an alarm clock) when I cold start, which goes away when I hit the reset button.  I have also noticed that the system trys to boot when I flip the power switch on the PSU.  I don't know if this is normal with MSI boards, but my Asus would not boot until I hit the power button on the case.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    To all:
Thank you for all of your suggestions.  When I got home today I tried to boot up the system with only the 512MB RAM stick (Crucial Part #:CT64M64S4D) inserted in DIMM slot 1.  The computer responded as described in the first post of this thread.  I then tried the 256MB stick (Crucial Part #:CT32M64S8D75) in DIMM slot #1 and the system booted normally.  I then subsequently added the other sticks of RAM in the remaining slots (512MB in slot 2 and the 128MB in slot 3). I think the 128MB stick is hitachi but not 100% sure...it might be Diahatsu (my short term memory isn't too good).  I guess the 512MB stick did not seat well in DIMM slot 1.
However, my system still wants to boot up independently of the button on the case.  The system will power up once I flip the PSU switch to the on position.  I don't know if this is normal for MSI boards, but my Asus system would not boot until I pressed the case button. I must admit I am still unclear of the JFP1 wiring.  However, I have tried the power switch and reset switch wiring in all combos and this did not solve the issue. Is there a BIOS setting or jumper somewhere that I am missing?  Any more info would be useful.
    Thanks again for the suggestions!
    Dave
    P.S.
    Mauricio16,
Please read the entire thread before posting a response.  As I stated earlier, I DO NOT have a D-Bracket...yet, and I HAVE tried a different PSU.  Thanks for your suggestions though.  Luckily it was not as an exteme of case as it could have been.
I guess both of us have learned a valuble lesson from this experience.  When in doubt, reseat the RAM.

please help before I take this mainboard back...

What does your boot.ini contain?  It might be pointing to the primary slave, though i do see your point as to why it boots in primary in other comps.  Just post your boot.ini and I'll look to see if there is anything wrong or out of place.
