K7T Turbo2 Ver.5 133 mhz bus

I am sure this issue has been addressed numerous times: However, I cannot get my K7T Turbo2 Ver. 5 system board to accept the 133 mhz bus with my Athlon 1700+ CPU.  I have installed 133 mhz memory and, (as recommended in this forum), purchased and installed a 450 Watt power supply.  This does not resolve the problem. When I jumper "J17" to 133MHZ (open), windows XP halts during the boot.  Windows XP will only load in the shorted jumper position.  The maximum CPU speed I can obtain is 1100 MHZ!!  When I originally installed the CPU, I used white heat transfer lube between the CPU and the Athlon cooling fan.  I have tried repeatedly to resolve this problem since I purchased the board....no success much frustration!
Attached Devices: HD's IBM-DTLA-307015, WDC WD400BB-AUA1; Display MSI GeForce4 MX/440; IDE DVD ROM 16X; Optorite CD/RW 4802; Voyetra Santa Cruz audio card; Lexmark X63 all-in-one printer; Linksys Ethernet adapter.
If anyone has a point by point solution please advise!!

The only other thing you might try is to barebones the system, just a video card , the ram and a harddrive attached, and try to boot then. If the system boots then, you have a conflict with a piece of hardware.you proceed ,adding one piece at a time, until you find whats causing the problem. Sometimes audio cards or Nic cards can cause problems.and sometimes just by switching the slots they are located in, can help. Good Luck BD.51  :D

    Depends...
the Apple CPU uses 1.4 GHz rated 7455B chips.
the Giga CPU uses overclocked 1.25 GHz 7455B chips.
Changing the bus speed on the MLB is a bit of a chore, but the Apple CPU *MAY* overclock better.

  • 1.25 167 MHZ processor upgrade for a dual 867 133 MHz bus

Having upgraded my MDD with a dual 1.25 processor, I am left with a single 1.25 processor at 167 MHZ bus. Can I use this to upgrade a dual 867 MHZ MDD? I know I won't get the original speed due to lower bus freq, but I'd like to use it anyway, especially if the heatsink fits.

Hi there, that's going to leave you with a single 1 GHz CPU vs. 2 867s, unless you also bump the speed multiplier, but...

  • Can FW800 133 MHz board from single 1 GHz machine take a dual processor?

I've read in more than one place that the logic board from the 1 GHz FW800 machine can't be used with ANY dual processor. Can anybody tell me with a reasonable degree of certainty whether this is true or not?
Please don't bother answering based on general principles. I already believe -- tell me if I'm wrong -- that every other MDD FW400 or FW800 board CAN take a dual processor and, except for this question, EVERY processor will work EITHER with EVERY 133 MHz board OR with EVERY 167 MHz board.

From my experience the processor card should be compatible, but don't hang me if I'm wrong.
This page showes how to set different multipliers = bus ratios.
So, according to the default multipliers for the MDDs, you get:
    6.5x 133 MHz bus = 864.5 MHz CPU (867 MHz)
    6.0x 166 MHz bus = 996 MHz CPU (1.0 GHz)
    7.5x 166 MHz bus = 1,245 MHz CPU (1.25 GHz)
Thus, if you put a Dual 1.0 GHz onto a 133 MHz board, you'd get not 1.0 GHz but 800 MHz instead (798 MHz to be exact). The same goes for the 1.25 GHz where you'd get 1.0 GHz (997.5 MHz), and for the 1.42 GHz where it'd be 1,1 GHz (1130 MHz, multiplier 8.5x).
    6.0x 133 MHz bus = 798.0 MHz CPU (1.0 GHz → 800 MHz)
    7.5x 133 MHz bus = 997.5 MHz CPU (1.25 GHz → 1.0 GHz)
    8.5x 133 MHz bus = 1,130 MHz CPU (1.42 GHz → 1.1 GHz)
So, if you alter the bus speed of the board (see here, link is from the xlr8yourmac page linked above) you will be able to use the Dual processors for the 166 MHz bus on your 133 MHz board, then overclocked to 166 MHz, at their designed speeds. If you don't what to change the boards system bus speed the processors will just be underclocked, thus run slower – with all the advantages like less power consumption and less heat emission together with a prolonged lifetime.
To fit the 133 MHz system bus you would have to change the multipliers on the processor daughter card to run at the processors native speeds.
    Just one example:
    1,000 MHz / 133 MHz = 7.5x
So, if you'd want to run a Dual 1.0 GHz processor on a 133 MHz system board you'd have to alter the multiplier from 6.0x (for the original 166 MHz system bus) to 7.5x (for your 133 MHz system bus) – the resistors to change the multiplier reside on the processor daughter board.
That said, keep in mind that this procedure is *NOT tested or confimed*, but it seems logical, doesn't it?
I had a OWC Mercury Extreme 1.4 GHz processor upgrade placed in a Gigabit Ethernet replaced into a Quicksilver (2001 version). As you can see here, it had set the multiplier to 14x to have it run at 1.4 GHz on the Gigabith Ethernet (100 MHz system bus) and I had to set the jumpers to a multiplier of 10.5x for the Quicksilver (133 MHz system bus).
Thus, if I had put the OWC Mercury Extreme running at 1.4 GHz in the 133 MHz bus Quicksilver unmodified back into the 100 MHz bus Gigabit Ethernet, it would run at 1050 MHz (roughly 1.0 GHz).
That's it. There wouldn't be more to it than that, but the latter source (for changing the motherboards system bus speed) states that Apple put in some protection on the processor daughter card to prevent increase in system bus speed if no dual processor is present. Since this doesn't apply to you as you stick to your 133 MHz system bus it shouldn't bother you.
*But don't blame me* if it should turn out to be completely wrong!
    Cheers,
    Andreas.

  • K7T Turbo2, doesn´t show splash screen

I´ve a problem with my K7T Turbo2, when the computer starts up, it doesn´t show me the MSI logo and it´s Enabled in the BIOS, if i disable it, the same... nothing happens. It´s strange a friend of mine has the same problem with the same Motherboard.
    Please, need any help.
    Thanks

    I agree.
I think that if the board says it supports the fullscreen logo then it should when purchased.
Mine doesn't show the fullscreen logo either- I think that while it may sound trivial it is worth looking into because if a small feature like that doesn't work then I can suspect that the board is in fact at fault with my high idle temps of 55 degrees Celcius, (60 degrees loaded)
The heatsink/fan allowed 42 Degrees idle and 48 degrees loaded on my  MSI 6378 PCB 1.0. Swapping the chip again gave consistent results. The paste is generic but it was the same on the 6378 anyway so that is not the problem. The system is stable for now but I worry about the long term effect.
And if the boot logo has a bug then maybe they really didnt implement the power savings correct either - viewing it as trivial since those temps are still within AMD's spec.
I know this is just a value setup but afterall Im still a student - Elec. Eng. and craftiness at this level disgusts  so dont say why do I want my logo - Market segmentation is about less features for lowend not less quality (especially in something like a computer - data is involved). I had endless woes with my 6378 (crashing disk, screeching sound ) - imagine risking the PCB 3.0 Bios actually fixed a screeching sound issue. Go figure - MSI said that bios was not for PCB ver 1.0 and logic told me to go ahead anyway higher version usually means better code. (Of course I rationalised that mostlikely the new PCB mods were slight if only to take on the XP CPU's)
Long and short - The logo thing should be investigated especially if consistently wrong on others systems. Success in little things do add to consumer impression of a company. Dont brush this off.

  • K7T Turbo2 Sound Driver Problem

I just installed a K7T Turbo2 motherboard for my #2 system and am having a problem installing the VIA sound driver.  The system freezes up before it finishes the installation and once I reboot the Device Manager says that since Windows stopped responding when trying to start the device, it wouldn't attempt to start it again.
I've tried new drivers (both sound and chipset), tried reinstalling the drivers a few times, made sure the sound card was active in the BIOS, and even removed a couple of extra spacers from under the mobo so I just have them on the four corners.  Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,

I think during the course of trying to get it to work, it requested the gm16.dls file.  However, I think I finally got it installed from the Windows disk.  Could this still be causing the problem?
Also, I tried out my SB Live! card from my primary system - the drivers installed and the card worked fine.  I would prefer not to have to buy a seperate sound card, if I can get the on-board one working.
    Thanks again,

Try uninstalling the sound card and any other nonessential components. Also, when you uninstall click on the "show hidden" items and remove duplicates. Don't remove anything that you do not know exactly what it is including any marked "unknown" but if you see multiple sound cards or cd-roms, etc. remove them. Then see if you boot ok and gradually reinstall items.

  • K7t turbo2 + front side bus

i recently bought an msi k7t turbo2 and athlon xp 1700+, but when i boot up it only shows it as an athlon 1100mhz, i've asked a few friends and they told me to set the fsb to 133. i checked in the manual how, and it says to change the jumper however the diagrams weren't too informative (or i just didn't catch the drift), i was hoping somebody could explain in a little more detail

    I have the same problem...
I have a k7t turbo xp1800 gf4ti4200 300Wps(one HD and nothing else to steal power) the cpu temp is >50C and the cooler is put on correctly.
And when putting the fsb to 133 i can boot up once then it will hang after ~15 mins. And if i reboot before that nothing happens the screen is just black.
Then i have to take the power cord out and leave it out for 5 mins then i can boot again but it hangs after ~15 mins.
But when running at 100fsb everything is working perfectly but the cpu is running slower of course.
I dont undestand why this is happening and its driving me nuts

    Thanks

    Welcome
You can verify the bios version at the top of the very first post screen (you get after powering on). Hit Pause key when screen appears, then Enter key to continue. Turbo2 goes to XP2600+, and correctly IDed with 3.6 bios.
Here is a link to the different bios versions.

  • K7T Turbo2, AMD 2600 - wont recognize cpu correctly.

Hello everyone. Thanks in advance for any help.
I have the K7T Turbo2 W6330VMS with the latest bios, v3.6. I upgraded from an AMD Athlon +1700 (266 fsb) to a Athlon +2600 (266 fsb). I verified I had flashed the bios before installing the new CPU. I have since cleared the Bios and re-flashed it. Version 3.6 bios was the version that allows the Turbo2 to use +2400 and +2600 cpus.
Here is my problem: The system shows the CPU as a +2000 on bootup. It is running at 1660mhz, not 2133mhz. My bus is running at 133 mhz.
I have removed the CPU and verified the correct CPU was installed.
    AMD Athlon, AXDA2600DKV3C.
I have tried manually changing the multiplier and bus speed, but only drop the cpu speed doing this.
What do I need to do inorder to get this board to recognize the CPU correctly?
    Thank you.

    AXDA2600DKV3C 2600+ 2133MHz 16x 133fsb is the cpu you need
    notice the 16x multilpier
your cpu is using a 12.5 multilplier
    AXDA2600DKV3D 2600+ 2083MHz 12.5x 166 fsb
is what you have despite what any thing says
the 266 version of the xp 2600 is as rare as rocking horse doings

  • K7T Turbo2: Unknow CPU type: 1733MHz

    Hi, I have a K7T Turbo2, 1.5Gb PC133 DRAM.  Athlon XP 2100+ CPU (1733 Mhz)...
Is there a reason the BIOS is not reporting this as a Athlon XP 2100+ ?
    Bios Version: W6330VMS V3.5 070102 16:32:18
    Thanks,
    Soil

The AMD 2100+ CPU is not a 2100 Mhz. CPU, As my 2000+ CPU is a 1600 Mhz., your's a 1733 Mhz. When system is booting, you should see your CPU. recognized as 2100+. If not, check FSB to be sure is set at 133.

  • K7T Turbo2 BIOS CLOCK MULTIPLIER

I've got a K7T Turbo2, ATHLON XP 1700+ with the latest BIOS Update.  MY Power Supply is 350W, ATI RADEON 9000, and 512MB SDRAM.
I removed the jumper on the board so the FSB is 133 x2.  However, I've tried increasing the multiplier in the BIOS and it seems to have no effect.  I even took it up to 15, the max.  When the machine boosts and I open either FUzzy Logic or SiSoft Sandra, both still say my clock mulitiplier is 11, and the speed is still the same.
Any thoughts?  I'm currently getting 1460 mhz from the processor.

Sounds like a Palamino with locked multi. Only real way to verify - remove heatsink, and give us all data printed on core.
OR, you could d/l WCPUID (see Google for d/l site- tiny d/l)and give a screenshot which should show the model of the CPU.

  • K7T Turbo2 and illegal opperations

running K7T turbo2 (BIOS v.3.6) with AMD XP1600+ processor (shows as "unknow" type 1600+ during POST) and i am getting illegal operations out the wazzu.  OS is Win98SE.  Always the exact same error regardless of the application that falls victim "error in module at 0000:606045DF".  Being the exact same error each time tells me it is a hardware issue as opposed to a software issue.  Installed componants are just bare minimum for operation, AOpen GF4 MX440 vid card, WD 40G ATA100 HD, unknown brand 128MB PC-100 RAM.  no conflicts listed in the windows device manager.  I have tried with different RAM of the same brand and type with no change, both ram sticks and got registry errors.  Tried with Kingston PC-133 256MB and the system will constantly reboot (different issue I am sure) but if it stays running long enough I get the same illegal operation error.
heat is not an issue, on all my trips to CMOS, the temp has never been above 42C
anyone have any other thoughts?  I think I have narrowed it down to either the motherboard or the processor

did not clear CMOS before installing the CPU as it was the first to be installed on this board but have cleared CMOS since as part of the trouble shooting, when first building the system I neglected to remove the bus speed jumper and it would not even get to the POST but I can try that again if it will not damage anything.  I am also talking to Kingston about the pc-133 ram (those errors might be a bad stick)
can not get the new updates because the system will not run error free for long enough, aslo I am getting some access errors with the wondows update site requireing an administrator login when I have never setup a password on the system (again an unrelated issue)
also since the my initial post I have tried a differetn power supply and it ran longer before giving me that error

  • AGP 4x not working k7t turbo2

I've tried everything to get this to work. I updated my BIOS, VIA 4in1 drivers, I've tried the latest Nvidia drivers but rolled them back due to incompatability with my Tnt2, but nothing works. I searched this forum and found a regedit solution, the values it wanted me to edit were already in 4x mode but it is still reported in 2x mode. SANDRA reports that my Motherboard doesnt support 4x, but it says on the MSI site that it supports 4x and in the BIOS it has an option to enable 4x (which is enabled). I've done everything i can think of to fix this, tried several video cards, all run at 2x. The only thing I can thnk of that is lacking is my Power supply because its 250 W but how could that force 2x mode?
    K7t Turbo2
AMD Duron 1200 100 mhz FSB
    895 Mb Sdram

I've done several reinstalls of windows and all have the same problem. Rivatuner says my agp bus only supports 1x/2x but is agp 2.0 which is 4x as well. Hope this is of some help.
