K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) USB

I have problems with all my usb ports. Trying to get my Iomega USB Zip Drive to work. Well its finds the device but when I try to read or write to it I get errors... The same with my camera... And if I connect my moues to usb i dies after a while and says uknown device... is wrong ???

Hi,
There are 2 options to get arround this problem.
Lower the CPU-FSB to 130-132 or buy a PCI-USB card.
Sorry, but it's a bug in the chipset that causes this.

  • Help! Can't overclock via CPU Ratio (multiplier) with K7T266 Pro (MS-6380)?

I have a Athlon 1.2 GHz (266 MHz FSB) that I'm trying to overclock via the clock multiplier on my K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) mobo.
Right now the CPU ratio is set to Auto in the Hardware Monitor in the BIOS, but I know that it's using a clock multiplier of 9 (9 x 133 Mhz = 1197 Mhz, which is about 1.2 Ghz)
The only way that I can overclock this CPU is by increasing the FSB above 133 MHz.  That works, but I'd like to avoid that as the USB no longer works when the FSB is past 138 MHz (i.e. I can't OC higher than 1242 MHz through the FSB)
If I set the clock multiplier above 9 (ex: 9.5, 10, etc.) nothing happens.  I reboot and my CPU is still at 1.2 GHz.  Its as if I can't OC by increasing the CPU ratio.  I'd like to set it to 10 and run at 1.33 GHz but I can't.  Why is that?
If I lower my CPU ratio below 9, then the computer freezes up totally at bootup and I have to clear the CMOS to get it working again.
    THANKS!

    Hi,
You need to unloack the CPU, search google for closing L1 Bridges, then you can set it to anything you want

Just recieved a Albatron gf4 ti4600 card. The computer won't boot. The card booted perfectly on a friends expo kt266a motherboard. But the card won't boot on any of my two pc's. We have tried his Enermax psu, we have tried everything. Are there any possible solution? 512 MB DDR RAM pc 2100 (Have tryed memtest86)
    AMD 1500+

Had the same trouble with my old card.  The thing wont work on new motherboards with the latest nvidia drivers because the AGP port speed is too fast for the card.  You can fix it by disabling the vertical sync but that just makes the system unstable.  Roll back to the 46 driver, I think that's the one dated october 2003.  That driver seems to work good with those cards or use the original driver it came with.  If you still can't get it to work it might be a good idea to look at updating to a video card that can handle 8x AGP.

  • K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) v1.0 with IBM 180GXP/180 GB drive

    Hi,
I'm thinking about buying one of the new IBM Deskstar 180GXP hard disks and I'd like to go for the 180GB version.
Question is, wether my board K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) v1.0 with latest bios v1.9 will support the large drive 100%.
I read in the changelog for the bios about the support for the Maxtor 160 GB drive but is somebody actually using a disk larger than 128 GB, that might require 48 bit adressing with the MS-6380 (it's the old version 1.0 I'm talking about) and has more than 137 GB on data on it without noticeable problems? I couldn't find any info about this in the forums or on the net.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello Assaf,
    Thank you for your note.
Just for the archives: I bought the 180GB IBM-disk and it's working without any problems. The 1.9 BIOS is fine and Windows recognizes the drive as well. Only thing I had to do was to update the VIA 4-in-1 drivers and enable Big LBA support in Windows 2000, as described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article #305098. After a reboot Windows recognized the complete disk (before only ~128 GB).
After some hours of testing (bit by bit writing and reading on the whole disk and some 'WinBenching') I installed Windows 2000 and it's running very well so far.
Anyway, others might be better off with an IDE controller for Windows 98/ME or NT4.

  • K7t266 Pro Ms-6380 + Western Digital 160gb

    Hi there.
I have a MSI K7T266 PRO V1.0 motherboard with the 1.9 BIOS version.
I wanna buy an Western Digital 160 GB hard drive. Did anyone know if the motherboard can detect it succesfully (because of the 137 GB barrier).
Has anyone been successful in this operation? ... The BIOS version said the 137 GB barrier is broken.
BUT ... I REELY, REELY, REELY NEED TO KNOW IF IT'S TRUE AND IT'S ACTUALLY WORKS FINE....
    Thanks to everyone.

if it supports one 160 gb drive it will support any size drive by any maker

  • MSI K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) with Athlon XP 2000+ Thoroughbred

...I used search, but I couldn't find anything compared to my problem... maybe someone can help me... ok... the problem...
My hardware: This is the motherboard I'm talking about (MSI K7T Pro (MS-6380)). And the processor is Athlon XP 2000+ Thoroughbred A.
This processor in not on the supported CPUs page. But someone told me then it is maybe still possible to get this motherboard and this CPU to run correctly. Maybe with a special BIOS update or something.
Does anyone knows something about that?

I agree that if it can run a 1.4 as far as power it should run a 2100+. It appears that the multiplier is there as it should support up to 15x. I think it would work as it is only another 66mhz, you might however have to use beta bios VA1.6 . My mb will recognise my cpu as a 2200+ when O/C high enough, but my MB only support 2100+ yet tables are there for supporting the cpu.
I think like most of the issues MSI knows that it can work but is worried for some reason or another of components being damaged so they will not officially support. It might only fail in 10% or maybe less of the cases but thats enought to stop MSI, Is that enough to stop you?
Than again it is only 66mHz I doubt you'd see the difference, Is it worth the trouble? I wouldn't chance it for 66mHz you could easily O/C to that speed, actually faster.
    Good luck

  • K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) safe BIOS-upgrading?

I'm still using BIOS v.1.0A for my K7T266 Pro...  I guess...
So what's the safest way to upgrade to V1.9?
I'm unsure about flashing... and cant afford any comupter-failure for the moment (thou I want a bigger harddisk)!
    Any suggestions?    /Stefan

Best way is to follow the instructions to flash using 2 floppy disks. One will have the windows98 startup files the second will have the flash program and the update itself. Just make sure you copy the flash util and the update over to the temporary drive it makes. Also if you have a UPS (universal power supply: battery backup) it would be benifical to hook it up just in case the power goes out.
Just make sure you read the stickies in the bios section of the forum and if you have any other questions feel free to ask. It is always a risk to flash your bios, but it is also a risk everytime you get into a car. You just want to be well informed, before you attempt this, just like you "should" be with driving a car.
    Good Luck

  • K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) Not Recognizing 1GHZ AMD

I've got an ATX motherboard with an AMD Athlon 1.GHZ processor and my bios only recognizes it as a 700MHZ. Windows XP also recognizes it as a 700MHZ. What is the problem??? I shouldn't have to flash the bios, because the inital bios was able to handle up to 1.4GHZ. Any ideas people? email me at [email protected] please for any suggestions!!! Thank you!!

I will look and then post the specs...it's my dad's PC across the room from me in our office...I'm the computer geek in the office and this is the only problem that I've not ever been able to solve. We bought the MB and CPU both new and had them professionally built by our people who build our customs machines. I honestly never noticed that it was running at 750MHZ until about three weeks ago...and we've had his PC for about 2 years or so. It's a 1GHZ CPU, and I'm not sure how much RAM he's got, but I'll check and edit this post. Thanks for all the help you guys.
    UPDATED SPECS:
    512 MB DDR RAM
    250 Watt Power Supply.
    1GHZ Processor.
    PROBLEM:
Windows XP along with the BIOS recognize the processor as a 750MHZ...also can't change fsb to 133 or else the PC won't start up--it has a multitoned beeping noise instead. Any further suggestions?

  • K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) Modded Bios ?

Hi I'm looking for some modded bios for my mobo. I want to overclock and have the newest bios for my mobo but there are several bios versions to choose from and some say it's made for overclocking. And the newer ones say they added support for amd xp 2000+. Will my processor work if I flash my bios with and older version without support for my xp 2000+. Or does anyone know about any modded bios. Becauase I cant get over 150fsb without my comp locking. its my agp port that goes over 80mhz and I want something to lock it with... anyone plz

  • Having trouble installing Radeon 7500 into K7T266 Pro

I am having all sorts of problems switching from my nVidia TNT 2 (MaxiGamer Cougar) video card to my new Radeon 7500.  I am running an AMD Athlon 1400 with 512 MB DDR RAM.
    I have the K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) chipset.
Can anyone think of what I am missing here.  I think I have all the updates AGP drivers I need but I am not sure.  I get lock ups prior to windows starting everytime. Even in safe mode.
    Grrrr.

I ended having to format my c drive.  Windows began doing some really funny things and then never started again with old or new video cards.  I have re-installed windows but now sometimes my monitor stays blank when I start the computer.  It is supposed to wake itself up but when it does, it has no picture.  To solve this I shut down and flick the switch on the back and discharge everything.  It then works again for another few times.  Do you think this may be a problem with my power supply?  I have an Enermax 350W.  I bought it when I built the computer and figured it would have plenty of juice.
    Thanks for you help

  • Problem with K7T266 pro, usb not working corectly!

    Have a problem here.
My MOMO racing wheel (USB) stops responding while playing games, but the wheel works fine on my friends comp. When i start a geme, i can play it for 30-60mins, and then it just stops responding, the lights on the wheel dont glow and it seems disconnected, my only help then is to restart my comp.
    And my specs are:
    MSI K7T266 pro
    AMD athlon 1,4Ghz
    Win98SE
I use the usb ports, that are in my mainboard.
Please answer if you know about the problem, or if you have expirianced something like that.

After killing my K7N2G-ILSR, ive had to revert to my backup K7T266 ProR system. While playing UT2K3 I had those freaking random disconnects of the USB which would kill the FPS and get me fragged, after which time it would happily reconnect and work fine. My optical mouse would also disconnect like that.
I am running XP Home, VIA 4.43. I set the BIOS to read only USB1 (which didnt work). Then I installed the VIA USB filter RC-1 and havent had a disconnect problem for over 24 hours now. Get the usb filter from MSI website and good luck!

  • USB drivers for Win XP K7T266 Pro

    Hello,
i was wondering if someone could direct me to the Windows XP professional drivers for my USB ports. I am using a MSI mainboard with the VIA K7T266 Pro chipset. Whenever windows restarts it attempts to install the drivers. It says that the "data" was "invalid". I have tried downloading the service pack and it did not recognise the USB drivers and i cannot download these drivers from the MSI site manually. I have also tried using the live update function on the MSI site.
Can i get another round of applause for windows XP! what a great product!!!  :(
Please help....i need to install my new USB modem and its driving me crazy.
    Thanks

    Hi,
It depends on the type of board you have.
If it's the K7T266pro V1 then you better buy a PCI USB card as the ports give problems at 133FSB anyway.
If it's the K7T266pro2 V2 then you need indeed SP1 for XP and let the ports redetect.
The V1 board has a serious USB problem at FSB133 and can't be solved by BIOS or drivers.
Only a PCI card or lowering the CPU-FSB can solve it.
The V1 board is very old and only a few have been sold a long time ago and was quickly replaced when the problem was discovered.
