K7T266 Pro2-RU and Promise FastTrak100 RAID Drivers

Hello
I am trying install my 2 new Seagate HardDisk in the IDE RAID on my K7T266 Pro2-RU motherboard without success.
MotherBoard's IDE RAID BIOS can see the two 160GB HDD that I have installed and Windows XP can not see it with the lastest BIOS v3.7 and the lastest Promise FastTrack IDE RAID Controller ( v2.0.90 Build 10 ). Both HDD are not detected by Windows XP by using F6 key, However my 2 40GB HDD are detected by Windows XP without problems.
I have 2 K7T266 Pro2-RU motherboards and they have the same problem, I think that the really the problem is the fasttrack.sys driver  Could be it updated ?
Does anyone have new Promise Drivers for Windows XP ?
Cheers.

Yes I do, I have used that drivers for many time and they are very old in this moment because Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160GB are not visible, only my IBM DeskStar 40GB works fine with that drivers.
I have tryed to use the last fastrtrack.sys v2.00.0.25 from Promise Technology without success which has support to large HDD above 137GB and needs BIOS update to my motherboard v2.00.0.24 in FastTrack (tm) "Lite" BIOS v2.00.1030.23.
http://www.promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=15&category=driver&os=0&go=GO
I have installed Windows XP SP1 in my IBM DeskStar 40GB on IDE3-RAID and works fine, later I have installed another HDD Seagate 160GB on IDE4-RAID and Windows XP can not see it.
Later and I have put the new fasttrack.sys (v2.00.0.25) driver in Windows XP and with a reboot machine, Windows XP can see my new HDD160GB HDD like a 149.05GB unpartitioned drive ( which is corret ). When I put the old fasttrack.sys driver Windows again can not see the 160GB HDD
Later I going to install the Windows XP SP1 in the new Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160GB and the IBM DeskStar 40GB by using F6 key and neither HDD were visibles. So I can not continue with the installion
Later I going to install WinXP again with the old drivers and once again only IBM 40GB is visible.
I need your HELP MSI Support Team.
Thanks in Advanced.

  • K7T266 Pro2-RU Promise FastTrak100 RAID Drivers

    Hello dudes,
    In November of the year 2005 I had big problems with the detection of the hard disk installed in the promise raid controller when I was installing Windows XP SP2, then, MSI did not know how to solve the problem for me...
    Now I have decided to share my experience with you because was very hard to solve it...
    From 11/22/2005 until 09/24/2008 I have been tested a modified/hacked Promise FastTrack100 Series Windows Drivers without problems, it was and is the lastest one Windows XP Promise driver ( FastTrak100 Windows Drivers v2.00.0.34 ) wich is working fine with Windows XP SP3
    I have gotten to fix the Windows XP HDD detection ( Seagate's Barracuda 7200.9 160GB HDD ) by using above drivers.
    Only put drivers on floppy disk and remember pulse F6 with modified drivers because original do not works

  • MSI K7T266 Pro2 ARU and D-Link Trouble

    I've just bought a wireless ethernet system from D-Link. A PCI adapter called DWL-520+ (22 mbs)
    When I try to start up my PC with the Promise RAID enabled it won't boot, I disable the RAID controller... the PC boots and the D-Link card works great.
    I've tried to switch places in the PCI slots. Nothing helps.  And yes; I've cleared the NVRAM...
    Could anybody please help me?
    My system:
    MSI GeForce3 TI500
    MSI K7T266 Pro2 ARU (with BIOS v3.6)
    Creative Audigy
    D-Link DWL-520+ Wireless NIC

  • Problem between K7T266 Pro2-RU and ASUS GeForce 3 V8200

    Hi, i've installed an ASUS GeForce 3 V8200 in my K7T266 Pro2-RU.
    The system starts correctly, but when i force the AGP from BIOS at 4x all games doesn't run very well...
    I usually play games like UT or RTCW and when i run they i see many problem with the 3D rendering and shadow build...
    All drivers are up to date...
    How can i resolve this problem ???

    I think i'll follok the Toenne suggest. The difference between the AGP 2x and 4x is very small, anyway my drivers are (un)installed correctly and i don't have any PCI card near the AGP slot. Instead i think that in the future i'll pay more attention at the temperature problem: my Athlon XP 2000+ is  hot also with a good copper cooler...
    Another questios is, can anyone help me to find the best BIOS settings for my system?
    In the next days i'll post my BIOS configuration so we can see where i've mistaken.

  • K7T266 PRO2-RU and Problem with a FEW DISPLAY ADAPTERS ...

    Hello ,
    I was using my mainboard with 32 MB Creative Riva TNT2 Ultra until creative's fan was damaged . I tried 16 Creative TNT2 m64 display adapter of a friend of me , but it didn't work with K7T266 PRO2-RU. Many sounds are coming from mainboard while D-LED shows Testing RTC (or boot attemp, I'm not sure about that) (Same symptoms with "no graphic adapter" - I tried again after unplugged the display adapter - )
    At the beginning I was thinking that the 16 MB creative graph adap. was broken . So , today I bought a new graphic adapter 128 MB of Creative 3d Blaster5 Radeon 9200SE . When I plugged it into mainboard , I saw the same problems with 16 MB Creative TNT2 m64 . After that , I found another 32 MB Creative TNT2 Ultra from my friend and it worked with my mainboard FINE .
    - I tried all of the old bioses of MSI K7T266 PRO2-RU
    - I tried to start the computer with no any other devices (such as HDD , sound card , tv card etc. ) . Only display adapter was plugged in the mainboard , but it didn't work . System hanged up everytime I tried .
    - I made some bios adjustments which are suggested at this forum ....
      But none of these worked ....  ?(
    What is the problem ? Why only 32 MB creative TNT2 Ultra is working with my mainboard , but 16 MB Creative TNT2 M64 and 128 MB Creative 3DBlaster5 Radeon 9200SE are not  while all of them are working FINE with an old PII mainboard . (tvout+DVI)  I'm looking forward to hear from you . , Help me please .
    Ps : Can new beta bios solve that problem ?
    XP pro
    2100+ 0.18m XP CPU with coolermaster CP5
    40 GB Seagate Barracuda IV
    300 watt Codegen Power Supply
    2*256 MB Kingston DDR 2100 Memory
    ( No floppy , no souncard , no tv card etc , no any other devices like cdrom , dvdrom , cdrw etc.)

    That's it!
    I provided a few PSU's from my friends and tried 420 watt thermaltake and 520 watt VANTEC Stealth 520A PSU  ...
    Same situation happened and 128 MB Creative ATI Radeon video card didn't work   ...
    The problem can not be about PSU ...
    I tried two different brand of fx 5200  (128 MB ) video card on my system (with 300 watt codegen PSU) . Everything is ok  .
    And I also tried the RADEON card on my friend's computer which is running with 230 watt Elan Vital PSU . It worked perfectly ...
    So what can I think about that situation?
    The Answer is : There is something about MSI mainboard ... When I wanted to contact with support center via e-mail , I got an automated e-mail answer which is not completely able to solve any of my problems.
    Besides , I saw the problems between brand new Nforce mainboard of MSI and ATI video cards ...
    SO , if we get all of these informations together , we can say "THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT MSI" ...
    The solution is not buying expensive PSUs...
    That's really bullshit , I can buy a brand new mainboard instead of an expensive PSU.
    Finally , I bought an Asus mainboard , everthing is going ok now!
    I'll not buy products of MSI anymore because they didn't do anything to solve my problem . Goodbye MSIIIIII ....................................... ........

  • MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU and 200GB HDD

    Since 2001 I have used my computer builded with MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU ( 6380)  mainboard.
    A week ago I bought a new Samsung's hard disk (SP2014N) with 200 GB capacity. Before connection of the new disk to my computer, I upgraded BIOS to the newest one, downloaded from MSI Web site.
    The new disk is connected as master to IDE-0 interface and to the second IDE is connected my old 40 GB Seagate (as master) and DVD recorder NEC ND-3520 (as slave). The BIOS has detected the new disk as Auto, the old one as User type (47), the DVD recorder as CD and everything looks right, but there is a problem: I can not connect any drive as slave on Primary IDE channel. The BIOS does not recognize the HDD or CD/DVD connected to slave on Primary channel.
    Can you help me, please?

    To Osnavi's questions: yes, yes, yes, yes.
    To DaveR: my both optical drives worked as slave together with my old Seagate HDD (40 GB) and everything was fine.
    I don't like to connect both hard drives on the same channel, because I'm working with huge video files and I need some speed of independent HDDs.

    Hi folks,

    The motherboard does not boot up on first time....
    thinking the problem to be the BIOS version....I did update to V 3.7.
    Tryied agan , but the problem still appears....the motherboard do not boot up....all 4 led´s stay red on power on !
    I did a test with 2 another motherboards : ECS K7S5A and ASUS A7V133 , these 2 run ok with processor.
    Anyone know what is the problem ????
    thanks for help
    Ricardo NB

    I have a K7T 266 Pro RU mainboard running the XP 2100 [and was running the XP1800]. Try reseating the CPU. Take the HSF off, take the CPU out and then reinstall it. I've had the problem once or twice on these boards and reseating the CPU seemed to solve it. As far as updating the BIOS, you don't have to add or remove anything on the board. Use the live BIOS and make sure the boot sector write protection in the BIOS is disabled.
    Also note: The K7T266 Pro [any version] might have a stability problem with more that 512 MB of DDR memory. If you have more than 512MB [combinations of 1,2,3, 1GB or 3ea 256 MB or 3ea 512MB or 2 ea 512MB] your problem might be just the memory. There are many threads on K7T266 Pro stability problems with more than 512 MB or memory.

    I just bought the GeForce4 Ti 4200 from Siluro and installed it on my MSI K7T266 Pro2 MB and have since then experienced some problems when booting XP pro.
    Everything seems to work fine untill the very last application loads in XP after boot. Then the screen turn white, the mouse cursor becomes a black and white stripped square and the system reboots automatically. Generally after second boot, evreything seems to work fine but I get an XP error message stating that "the Nvidia Geforce4 TI 4200 drivers may be the origin of the critical problem encountered".
    I have all lastest drivers for both the MB (Bios 3.7 + lastest VIA drivers) and the Nvidia GeForce (Detonator 41.09) and yet experience the problem... Help!!

  • K7T266 Pro2-RU hard drive size..

    Hi !
    I tried to find a solution by searching the forums but this exact question
    nodoby asked.
    I bought new HDD (Seagate ST3160023A) 160 G / ultra ATA and
    i cant get it working.
    Board is K7T266 Pro2-RU and it seems that BIOS is recognise new
    HDD but i cant made any partitions and/or format it.
    I tried it many different ways, with other HDD:s
    Master, Slave, Cable Select.
    Seagate's own disk utility hangs, Windows xp (SP1) Disk management hangs and so on.
    Is this some known issue or is it so that the HDD is broken ? if
    i understood correctly, mainboard should support HDD:s up to 160Gb ?
    Thank you !

    Correct for the onboard raid controller, but the ide controller can only manage drives up to 137GB as far as I remember.
    Btw: Moved this thread to the via section, maybe anyone there else has some idea.

  • Quicktime 7.2 and Vista with RAID Arrays

    Has anybody been brave enough to install Quicktime 7.2 on their Vista computer which also has a RAID 0 or 1 array? Previous versions of Quicktime have crashed the RAID array necessitating a new computer the first time and a rebuild of the backup RAID driver the second time.
    I want to have iTunes and Quicktime on my Vista machine because I have an iPhone and it only syncs with iTunes but I am afraid to try it again. I updated my BIOS and the Intel RAID drivers with a Dell technician a few days ago so I have their "current" drivers but still am not sure this will "fix" the Quicktime crashing Vista RAID array issue.
    Any brave souls out there that have tried the latest version with Vista and a RAID array?
    PS - I run the latest version of iTunes (7.3.1) and Quicktime (7.2) on my Sony VAIO laptop with Windows XP and it works and I can sync the iPhone there for now.
    Dell XPS 410   Windows Vista   RAID 1 Array

    That sounds good. Those are what i was hopeful about in your case. I haven't seen a report yet of the Intel Matrix issues being fixed by the Dell-tweaked versions of the Matrix updates. However, there have been successes reported with the direct-from-Intel versions of those updates. For example:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4677972#4677972
    (I'm thinking however, that if the PC manufacturer offers its own versions of the updates on its downloads pages for a model, those are the drivers that folks should go for with their models.)
    Prior to those updates to the Intel Matrix coming out, the state of the art treatment (using the older models of the Matrix drivers/application) is discussed in this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4453007#4453007
    But i'd be inclined to go the way you've been going with the Dell technician first.

  • MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU - Memtest-86 Errors

    Hi, I have two 256MB 266DDR's by VM (there's "Nanya" on the chips) and when running Memtest-86 V3.0, I get about 10-15 errors in test 10. This doesn't happen when I test the sticks alone, only when they are together. When searching for this I found that some ppl with Abit and ECS VIA KT266a boards had this problem, and the solution was like this:
    * 1T Command - OFF
    * DDR DQS Input Delay - 20
    * DDR DQS Ouptut Delay - 40
    * Command drive strength - Hi
    But the BIOS of my mobo has only the first option to set, I tried to set it OFF and it didn't helped, same with changing DDR voltage to 2.7 volts.
    Other options (CAS, RAS etc) are set by SPD.
    All the errors in memtest are like this:
    - all adresses above 256 MB
    - no exact address had error more than 1 time (it's random)
    - all adresses end with 5c, 9c, dc, 7c...
    - The pattern Memtest wrote is f7f7f7f7 or 7f7f7f7f
    - The pattern Memtest read is f7f7f7ff or 7f7f7fff

    i have k7t266 pro2 aswell and had memtest errors too.
    I solved the errors by loading bios defaults,not performance and setting memory timing to
    2,2,5,2-most aggresive
    settings
    memory interleaving 2 way for 1 stick,4 way for 2 sticks.
    sdram 1t command-disabled
    fast command enabled.
    Also clear nv ram in the bios after changing memory timings and reboot and retest,it worked for me,good luck.

  • K7T266 Pro2 V2.0 & Athlon TB 1400C

    Hi!
    I bought an MSI K7T266 Pro2 Board. I put an Athlon Thunderbird 1400C on it. The PC boots but after 10 sec it starts booting again. The temp of the CPU is about 50 C says BIOS.
    The CPU already worked on another Mainboard and also worked with 50 - 55°C. Now I put an Athlon TB 750 on the K7T266 Pro2 Board and it works --> strange...
    I flashed the BIOS but nothing changed. I also tried to start the CPU with 133 MHz FSB, no difference...
    The German MSI-Support has no solution... perhaps here is sb. who can help me
    System
    MSI K7T266 Pro2 V2.0 (Bios Version 3.7)
    Athlon TB 1400C (133 FSB)
    (Cooler Master HAC-V81 with copper cylinder, works up to AthlonXP2800+)
    Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9700
    Seagate Barracuda V 80GB
    512 MB RAM (No-Name, CL2.5, 333 MHz, double sided chip)
    Power Supply:
    Combined Power: 400 Watt
    3,3 V - 28 A
    5 V – 40 A
    12 V – 17 A (I know it should be 18, could this be the problem)

    Quote
    it doesn't goes over 55°C and the Homepage of AMD says that the CPU stands up to 85°C
    85°C inside the die but the temp shown in the bios is measured at the bottom of the cpu (your board doesn't support the xp internal temp-diode).
    The temp inside the die is about 15-20°C higher than the temp at the bottom of the cpu, so your cpu has more than 70°C inside! And remember, when you're checking the temps in bios the cpu is only in idle mode, temps in windows are normally much higher.
    The tb1400 produces much more heat than your tb750, so your headsink may be insufficient.
    Quote
    Could this also happen because of lack of thermal grease?
    You need grease but to much grease isolates! Only a wafer-thin layer is required but it must cover the complete die (nothing else!).

  • Raid 0 Failure! XP Pro won't read array on MSI k7T266 pro2 *URGE

    Before anything else, thanks for reading and I hope you can help:
    I have an MSI k7T266 Pro2A-RU motherboard with 512MB of Mushkin RAM, AMD XP 1600+, a Geforce2 MX400, Audigy Soundcard and a cheap PCI NIC card.  I consider myself an above average technician and I've come up on a problem I can't figure out.  There is about 80GB of data at stake here:
    I have 2 IBM Deskstar 40GB 7200 RPM drives that were configured in a RAID 0 (stripe) configuration over a year and a half ago.  This gave me a total of 80GB online.  Windows XP Professional was installed and the drives have been running fine every since...
    The system was practically bulletproof and it was very rare it ever locked up for any reason.  A few days ago, however, the system locked up about 4 or five times.  There was no software or hardware that had been added or installed and system use hadn't really changed up or down. I run up to date antivirus software (Command Anti-Virus), run behind a secure firewall and watch what I open.  The lock ups were random, but happened when I was away from the computer. ( I leave my system on all the time).
    Being a bit paranoid, on 1/28/03, I acquired an 80GB Maxtor drive to install to back up my datafiles.  Before the install, I notice the system had locked up at least once that day, so I figured I would hurry up and get the drive in to back up.  I installed the 80, booted, configured it in XP and made it active and transfered a few test files over.  No problem.  I made the decision to back up my data files before bed and continued to work for the next two hours.  The system ended up locking up with a windows blue screen STOP error message: KERNEL_FAULT_INPAGE_ERROR when I tried to run a program.  Thinking little of it, I rebooted the computer to find I could no longer access the data on the RAID.
    I've tried nearly EVERYTHING I can think of.  (You can already assume I've done the basics (check/replace the cables, etc).  Here's a list and the results:
    ---- Reboot in all available modes (Safe,  Safe with NW, Normal, Last known, etc).  They all FAIL.  In safe modes, you can see where the system actually tries to boot off the array (runs through driver files and stops on MUP.SYS) and hangs. Same result with all other drives removed except the RAID.
    ---- Installed another drive, loaded XP with the raid controller files (By the way, it's a Promise ATA 100 "lite" controller), plugged the RAID back in and it hangs on boot up.  Safe mode gives the same results.  Tried the same thing with Windows 2000 (so I could access the NTFS partition) and Windows 2000 won't load when the array is plugged in, but loads ok when it isn't (used the 2000 driver for the RAID controller for this attempt).   Safe mode gives the same results.
    ---- Removed all drives except the Array and tried to reload XP (with the array drivers downloaded again from the site.) No effect.  System hangs.
    ---- In a last ditch effort, I have access to Winternals Administration Pack 2002 of all of their tools.  ERC Commander, designed for this type of problem, Disk Commander, and the other tools all do the same thing:  Any time the system attempts to read from or access the arry, the OS will hang.  It won't even check for NTFS compatibility in the ERC commander program booting from a boot CD, and for those that are familiar with it, the Disk Commander program blue screens with a STOP: 0x000007B (0xF896963C, 0xC0000034, 0x0, 0x0) error. Research has told me this is an INACCESSABLE BOOT DEVICE message.
    These are the main highlight major attempt things and there's a few things in between I've tried (like using Norton Ghost to try and mirror the array to the 80GB.  Norton ghost said there is an error reading the partition and can't go any further (Returns an Internal error))
    I'm at the point where I have run out of available options and don't know what else to try.  I have since purchased the exact same motherboard off e-bay to see if it just so happens to be the controller and to see if my RAID will come back so I can at least read the data off of it.  It should be here in a few days.  If that doesn't work, I'm toasted.  Could I be fighting a hardware (drive or board or controller) problem.  Is the array THAT corrupt the OS can't read it???
    If anyone has any other bright ideas, I'm willing to try about anything short of damaging the array. Any help is greatly appreciated.  Please post here, or e-mail to [email protected].
    BTW, the Promise BIOS is Fasttrak 100 "Lite" v 1.31.1(Build 30)
    Thanks.

  • K7T266 Pro2 RU, Raid-0 & Linux

    When I try to install either Red Hat 8.0 or Mandrake 9.0 on my K7T266 Pro2 RU, which has 2 x 40GB drives configured as RAID-0 (ie 1 x 80GB), both versions of Linux see the two physical drives and not the one logical stripe array. Why? It almost seems that the Linux drivers for the Promise 20265R are treating the raid channels and normal IDE channels. I want to install Linux onto the RAID-0 stripe!
    I have searched for guides/tutorials on installing Linux on RAID, but all the ones I found only talked about RAID-1 (Mirroring).
    Windows 2000/XP only sees the one logical drive.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Chris.

    The installer is wrecking the /etc/raidtab file when trying to detect existing raid arrays.
    Solution: Format a floppy disk with a DOS filesystem (in Linux, you can use the command "mkdosfs /dev/fd0"). Copy
    use detect_devices;
    package detect_devices;
    log::l("PATCHING");
    *raidAutoStartRaidtab = sub {
        my (@parts) = @_;
        log::l("patched raidAutoStartRaidtab");
        $::isInstall or return;
        require raid;
        #- faking a raidtab, it seems to be working )
        #- (choosing any inactive md)
        raid::inactivate_all();
        foreach (@parts) {
       my ($nb) = grep { !raid::is_active("md$_") } 0..7;
       output("/tmp/raidtab", "raiddev /dev/md$nb\n  device " . devices::make($_->{device}) . "\n");
       run_program::run('raidstart', '-c', "/tmp/raidtab", devices::make("md$nb"));
        unlink "/tmp/raidtab";
    use raid;
    package raid;
    *prepare_prefixed = sub {
        my ($raids, $prefix) = @_;
        log::l("patched prepare_prefixed");
        $raids or return;
        &write($raids, "/etc/raidtab") if ! -e "/etc/raidtab";
        eval { cp_af("/etc/raidtab", "$prefix/etc/raidtab") };
        foreach (grep { $_ } @$raids) {
       devices::make("$prefix/dev/$_->{device}") foreach @{$_->{disks}};
     to the floppy disk. Remove the floppy and reboot using the Mandrake Linux 9.0 CD1 to do a CD-ROM installation. During boot, press F1 at the splash screen, then place your floppy disk that contains patch.pl in the floppy drive. At the prompt, type "patch", then follow the installation as usual.
    Hope that helps
