K7T266Pro2 BIOS

Hi everyone,
I have two additional settings in my BIOS (v3.7) which are not mentioned in my hard-copy manual, nor in any manuals I have downloaded.   8o
The settings are located in ADVANCED CHIPSET FEATURES:
Write to Read Delay (Enable or Disable)
Read to Write Delay (0, 1, 2, 3 or 4)
Can you please explain what these settings are for.
Cheers

  • K7T266Pro2, bios ver. 3.6, 3.7 - the system is unstable if the CPU is

I've a problem - after flashing to new versions of bios the system becomes very unstable if the CPU is even slightly overclocked (140х11). Now I have the bios version 3.3. It is stable, but does not support fast CPU's (when I overclock my cpu to 1862 MHz, the results in SiSoft Sandra 2002 are much lower then with non-overclocked cpu). What am I to do?
P.S. How to rename the thread?

what is the problem with 3.3 memory timing? I upgraded to 3.7 bios and found that I cannot restart Windows - every time I restart, the bios is stuck in the POST screen - I went back to 3.3 and the problem is gone. I also did not notice any difference in SisSandra 2002 score (including memory benchmark), 3dmark2001se and all other benchmark software I threw at my system between bios 3.3 and bios 3.7.
BTW, I was also like Kolian before in that once I flashed to any bios above 3.3, my system cannot overclock. It turns out I fixed my CPU heatsink the other way around. Once I fixed the heatsink correct, I can use bios 3.7 stably, only problem being it not able to restart.

Recently I wanted to install Linux Mandrake 9.0 and I found out that I couldn't boot from the cd rom, the bios seems to recognize both players (cdrom and dvdrom) but i couldn't boot from cd rom.
after changing everything's position in the system the problem remained. I have also a second computer wich only have one cd rom player an LG cdrom player.
I changed the sony with the LG cdrom player and suddenly I could boot from cd rom. Now I have 2 questions.
    1st why can't I boot from my sony cdrom player/writer ?
2nd my dvd rom player is stated in bios as DVDROM and there is no option to boot from DVDROM, is it possible to change this in newer bios versions ?

  • K7T266Pro2-A - system unstable wid amd athlon xp 1880+?

I have a K7T266Pro2-A motherboard wid an AMD athlon xp 1800+ processor.  My main problem is when I load the optimal bios settings to get the processor at 1800+, my system becomes unstable.  It works fine at the default speed of 1153 mhz.  Anyone know how to fix this?

i changed my FSB to 166mhz
    You mean fsb133 I think, fsb166 isn't supported by the K7T266Pro2-A.

  • New Bios for K7T266 Pro2-RU

    Hi All,
Are there any new bios' for the K7T266 PRO2-RU (i.e., above 3.7), that will support the AMD 2200+, 2400+ Processors once the Modification is done?
    Thanks.
    Craig

    Hi,
The K7T266pro2 (MS-6380 V2.0) needs the modification to support all the latest 266FSB (TBred) CPU's because there is a timing change, removing the capicitor solves this and allows you to get the CPU starting.
MSI's official statement is that they don't support this as the board is long out of production.
However, they where nice enough to give us the modification in order to give you the posibility to get it running.
They're plan was to stop releasing BIOS'ses at v3.60 because there was no need to release another.
I convinced them to release 3.70 that has updated CPU-ID code for all 266FSB CPU's, and no again, they still don't support any CPU over the fastest Palomino officialy.
What they did was giving us the posibility to use an outdated board a bit longer, be happy about that.
As for the testing of CPU's on this board, that stopped at BIOS 3.50...
Any given board will fade away at some point in time, thanks to MSI (unofficialy), the K7T266pro2 with the modification can be used a bit longer......
All you need for the right multiplier is leave it at auto....as the correct one is hardcoded on the CPU itself...

  • RAID BIOS sees HDD but XP does not

I have a K7T266Pro2-RU (MSI 6380) mobo with an 80 GB Maxtor HDD on IDE3 and a 250 GB WD on IDE4, using the latest FastTrak100 RAID drivers from the promise website. On IDE 1 and 2 I have 3 optical drives installed.
The problem is that while the RAID bios detects the HDD's just fine (as two separate Stripe 1+0 arrays) and boots fine off IDE3, XP does not see the other array and therefore the larger HDD is invisible. Of course I have SP1 installed with the LBA support, and when I try the HDD on one of the primary IDE channels it is recognised just fine by XP.
So one might think that the problem lies with the RAID driver.....except to throw another spanner in the works, I did have this working fine on the RAID controller, until I decided to re-install XP from scratch on the smaller HDD (larger HDD is full of data). But for some reason this fresh install will not recognise the second HDD on the RAID controller... whats killing me is that it did work beforehand, and now it wont. I cant think what I have missed to make this work....
    Any ideas appreciated please

You really had it working before? Weird - it's not supposed to work! The Promise controller supports either 0 or 1. I can't see how you got 0+1.
And how can the second (bigger) HDD be the "other array" if you've got mirroring in there somewhere? OK, you can maybe fool a single drive into thinking it's a striped array but no way a mirror is anything other than a second drive which is part of the SAME array as the first drive.
It looks like you have successfully created a mirrored array using the 2 drives (RAID 1). There's no way you have a striped array accross the 2 drives since they have to be the same size for that to work. Mirroring is OK with drives of different sizes. The trouble is, the extra space on the larger drive is just wasted - the total array space is limited to the size of the smaller drive.
Since the second drive is just a mirror and the extra space is always unusable, it's no surprise you can't see it in XP. You would never want to read or write specifically to the mirror.

  • Mobo doesn't "see" hdd after changing BIOS

I have this strange problem. After changing my mobo's BIOS couple of days ago I had a strange "lack of hdd" problem with the new BIOS. I turned off my computer and turned it on again - I was really amazed to see Windows booting normally - everything suddently was ok. I thought that this is a strange behaviour of the BIOS ( 'couse it's probably BIOS thats respnosible for looking for hardware while booting the computer ) and I decided to downgrade the BIOS and to install the old version - the previous one ( from 1.6 to 1.5 ). So I did.
For a while I thought everything is like it used to be before playing with BIOS .... till today :(
I wanted to restart my Computer and while booting the same thing happened - it was written that there is no HDD in the computer and so it cannot boot the OS - I tried to do smth inside the BIOS but I couldnt do anything - like if it was really disconnected - strange thing that the DVD-ROM which is attached using the same IDE cable to the mobo was present in the BIOS ....
I remembered that the last time when it happened the turnOFF->turnON method worked - this time it was ok as well.
But it's still a problem for me - why does it happen anyway ? Did someone have his kind of problem ?
Can I do anything about it ?
PS. my mobo is K7T266Pro2-U with the BIOS ver.1.50 (downgraded from 1.60), OS is WindowsXP with SP1
The HDD is Seagate 20GB but I don't think it is it's fault.
    Thank you in advance !

Thanks maesus for answering so soon.
I think I'll to just that - I understand that the Quick Boot option turned on omites something while booting the comp. ?
Hope the computer won't boot much slower after turning off that option.
PS. do you think a new Hard-Disc would solve the problem ?
hope the hdd isn't dying  ;(

  • Most stable bios for KT3 ultra2?

ive tried between 5.6 and 5.5..
    noticing 5.5 is more stable...
are there any older ones that people prefer? thx

Normally it's not the BIOS that's stable or not.... it's the overall configuration that's stable or not...
Running my K7T266Pro2-A (the small brother of KT3 Ultra) with Micron/Crucial RAM stable @ CL 2 2-5-2-2 Timing with Ultra settings and "Fast Command" enabled... currently using BIOS 5.6 (the BIOS is identical to the KT3-Line). Previously using BIOS 5.5 (also stable, but w/ ACPI bug in WinXP). Stability doble-checked w/ memtest and prime95...
So... have a look @ the "stickies" to get your system stable

  • Help - K7T266Pro2 won't access serial ports in DOS window

My K7T266Pro2 won't access serial ports in a DOS window under Windows 98SE.
Windows programs can access the ports but no DOS programs - including my modem program, banking program, Tapcis Compuserve program and MDMDR a serial port diagnostic program.
I have tried both setting the ports in BIOS to AUTO
and forcing the standard values for com1 and 2
and I have verified that the serial ports are set for:
    com1 irq 4 i/o 3f8
    com2 irq 3 i/o 2f8
I know my way around serial ports.
Every other motherboard I have used under Windows 98SE has had no problems accessing the serial ports
    under DOS.
I asked my dealer to try another K7T motherboard.  He loaded Windows 98SE and could not access the serial
port in a DOS window either.
Is this something funny about K7T boards?
    Do others have this problem?
This is a quite urgent problem.  Please help.
