K8D Master-F High/Low beep tones

Hello,
Running the system even on bare minimum (PSU, memory and CPUs only)  the board will not post and will only return a constant high then low tone beep code.  Information from AMIBIOS suggests faulty CPUs, but this is doubtful that both CPUs would be damaged (I've tried one at a time, and in different sockets), as their serial numbers are quite a distance apart.
Anything else I can try? or do I have a dead board?
Thanks in advance,
LJP

MSI K8D Master-F motherboard
2x Opteron 240 CPUs
4xGiel 512mb Dual channel ddr 3200 ram (even with all removed it gives the high low beep tones)
This board uses a SSI compliant PSU, its 24 pin main power, 8 pin additional power.  550W supply thats in it.

Couldn't tell you if its registered DDR, ram isnt the problem though, it would give a ram error beep code running with no ram onboard, yet it still has the high/low beeptones.

  • K8D Master-F 2 long beeps

I have a K8D Master-F, it makes 2 repeating long beeps (high and low pitch) after a few seconds when powering up. The CPU is in CPU1. If I move the CPU to socket 2, the board powers up but no beeps. The only time it beeps is then a CPU is in CPU1, also I tried 2 CPU's, One being an Opteron 244 and a 242 (No i am not using dual at this time). Having the RAM in or out seem to have no effect with getting the beeps. Any ideas?

    More spec's please.....
Check the BIOS for case-open detection, turn it off....
If it still makes the noise, check the piowersupply.

  • K8D Master-F 9131 problem with BIOS 1.2 and Raidcore BC4852

The board does not start the Raidcore BIOS with motherboard 9131 BIOS 1.2 installed. It works OK wih BIOS 1.1.
Raidcore 4852 FW is V130. (tested V110 = same problem)
    Bios found here:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=441&kind=3
Both 1.1 and 1.2 BIOS was unable to recognise my Opteron 242 CPU steppings which indicate they are both quite old. Maybe MSI could fix these problems and include the newer CPU steppings like the ones for 250 CPUs. Bios 1.2 is dated nov. 28th 03 which is a year old. BUHU.
I am building a LARGE storage server based on this motherboard. Several others to come (planning on using the MSI K8D Master 3 -133 9161), but if MSI does not upgrade the BIOS for their high end boards I will start looking for another supplier real fast.

I'll stick with the V1.10, but I'd fell better if MSI showed me they actively update their systems by releasing updated BIOS files from time to time.
I can't sell a 15000$ storage system that doesn't recognise the CPUs installed. The customer would laugh and tell me to come back with a supported system.
Isn't this a VERY valid reason for wanting updates? Even if it only is an updated CPU list?
The only reason I tried this MSI board is that it was the only one available with my retailer at the time I bought it with 3 PCI-X 100Mhz slots. Maybe I should go with a Tyan Thunder next time. Tyan at least show some activity.

  • Beep tone and other unwanted audio sounds

I've looked through earlier posts, and see that this is a known issue. Also, it's been around for over three years since it was being discussed back then when I got my G5.
In my case I think it's gotten a little worse over time.
Sounds I hear, when the G5 is being monitored through an amplifier and speakers in a quiet environment are: Constand fairly high pitched, steady tone, similar to color bars tone. Continuous beeping, like heart monitor. Static and other garbage sounds when screen is updated.
In earlier posts I see that Apple pretty much discounts this. And haven't seen anyone posting an answer.
It's not awful, but it's annoying, and I agree with many... This kind of machine, which is used in so many studio applications, should not create audio sounds.
AppleCare suggested buying better cables to go from the G5 to the Amp. This did help, and I'm thinking of buying one of those super Monster type of cables to see if that helps even more.
They say it's a Ground Loop issue, which is complicated, and to eliminate it they suggest buying an isolation transformer. Not clear to me if that's used on the AC, or something you run the audio signal through.
At any rate, anyone out there with a definitive answer, would love to hear from you.
Mine seems to be related to the operation of the G5 and Amp together. This sets off these Ground Loop problems. When I monitor the G5 with head phones, I can't hear the problem. This may be related to the fact that to hear it you have to run the signal through an amp and boost the volume on the amp. Possibly there's not enough gain, when listening through phones, to hear the problem. But I think it has to do with interference when amp + computer are hooked together.
Running G5 into a Yamanha 777 amp/receiver. Sounds definitely originate with the G5.

    JonG1-
That is a good description of some of the sounds that I have heard. It is really hard to pinpoint the source of some. I am convinced that most of the whining comes from my graphics card.
One of the worst culprits I have are a pair of external seagate drives that when powered on and accessed make some very annoying sounds. I think the sound has to do with FireWire data transfers. No matter what I did I could not get rid of the sound. The only thing that worked was turning off the drives.
Have you had the wiring in your house checked? I found most of the outlets in my house to be grounded properly except the ones where I was using the computer. Go figure.
Do you have this unit on a UPS? Sometimes the units that do not put out a true sin wave make those annoying noises worse.
IMHO monster cable products are very overrated and extremely over-priced.
Could you reference the posts where Apple discounts noise? My experience is that they are very forthcoming with suggestions to mitigate said noise. Ground loop is not really that complicated to troubleshoot. Plug a terminal strip into the wall and the computer, monitor, amp and speakers if powered into it. How's the noise?
Forgive me if you have seen it but I have found this document on audio noise solutions to be useful. It does address your gain concerns.
That is all I can think of at the moment.
    Luck-

  • My imac is making low beeping noises when I turn it on and wont go past a grey screen; whats wrong?

When I turn on my computer it goes strait to a grey screen with the apple and starts a low beeping. The beeping does not stop so I rebooted it several times and everytime it turns back on, it starts to beep again.
    What could be the problem?

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Note: It is possible that the SMC could encounter an issue that may cause  unusual system behavior typically related to the symptoms described  below.  In some cases, resetting the SMC may be the only correct method  to resolve the issue, however, an SMC reset should only be attempted  after all other standard troubleshooting has been performed.
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC.  Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep.  Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
If your Mac appears to be running normally but isn't responding, force the computer to shut down by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds. Note: You will lose any unsaved work in any open applications.
For Mac portables experiencing issues related to the MagSafe power adapter and/or battery, try:
Unplug the MagSafe power adapter from the Mac and the wall power socket for several seconds.
Shutdown the Mac.  Physically remove and re-insert the battery (if it's removable) and startup the Mac.
If the issue is still not resolved after following the troubleshooting items above, an SMC reset may be necessary.
After performing normal troubleshooting, these symptoms may indicate that an SMC reset may be necessary:
    Fans
The computer's fans run at high speed although the computer is not experiencing heavy usage and is properly ventilated.
    Lights
The keyboard backlight appears to behave incorrectly (on Mac computers that have this feature).
The Status Indicator Light (SIL) appears to behave incorrectly (on Mac computers that have an SIL).
Battery indicator lights, if present, appear to behave incorrectly (on portables that use non-removable batteries).
The display backlight doesn't respond correctly to ambient light changes on Mac computers that have this feature.
    Power
The computer doesn't respond to the power button when pressed.
A portable Mac doesn't appear to respond properly when you close or open the lid.
The computer sleeps or shuts down unexpectedly.
The battery does not appear to be charging properly.

  • High-pitched beep/sound during sleep and shut down modes

I just wish to check whether is it normal that there's high pitched beep (not very loud but can be heard in a quiet room) which seems to be from the LED or AC Adapter during sleep mode. The beep sounds continuous when the computer has been shut down or in off mode while the main plug of where the ac adapter is connected to is still on. Is this normal? My computer works fine. Battery is charging fine. I just want check whether is this normal. It is has been like that ever since I bought my computer on March 2012.
HP Pavilion dm4-3005tx Entertainment Notebook PC

    Hello Huanwei,
It appears that you can hear a "high pitched beep" coming from the notebook while it's in sleep mode or even off, when the power adapter is plugged in and "on". I will try to help you with this.
Normally, this should not happen. Beeping from a computer may happen during start up a few times to indicate components enabling, but any constant beeping or being while the computer is off shouldn't happen.
Does this occur, if the AC adapter is not connected to the notebook when it is in sleep mode or off? Do you only notices this, in a specific location? (office, etc.)
I would suggest, depending on the setup of things. Taking the notebook with no AC to another location in the house. A quiet one, make sure your not near any other electronics (no watches or cell phones either) let the notebook sleep and see if you hear the beeping. If not, then power it off and test again. If no beeping, this is good and the notebook is fine.
Repeat that same test with the power adapter connected ( again no other electronics around you). Listen while it is "sleeping" and off to see if you can hear the beeping again.
If you do disconnect the AC from the notebook , but leave that connected to the wall and take the notebook out of that location, go back to see if you can hear beeps again. If you do it could be the AC adapter. If you don't then it could be an issue with that only when it's connected.
If there was no beeping when the AC was connected in this "testing location", then I would guess it is something else within the house that is beeping (we have seen that before). In which case you'd have nothing to worry about in regard to your notebook.
Let me know where the above leads.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Down payment amount cannot be higher/lower than the preset value Error

Hello.  Can anyone help me with this error.  When creating a down payment request from a sales order with a billing plan, I get the message 'Down payment amount cannot be higher/lower than the preset value' and the document isn't released to accounting.  When creating the sales order, I included a condition type that I created.  The billing plan then calculates the down payment request value with the total sum i.e net value plus condition value.  Upon creating the down payment request in VF01, I get this message.  I did a test and noticed that, if the condition is not included in the sales order, the down payment request is created without errors.  How do I correct this?  Thanks for you anticipated response.

    Hi
As you are getting error, 'Down payment amount cannot be higher/lower than the preset value' ,please check the total value of the document. So in the sales document ,billing plan check what is the invoice value for the first billing date , also check what is the sales order value.Secondly what is the condition type that has been created and for what purpose it is being used.

  • MSI K8D Master PCI-X Question

    Hi,
I was just wandering if anyone could tell me if the MSI K8D Master is compatible with any PCI-X 16 video cards.
    Any information would be appreciated.

This is a server board, and server typically have no use for AGP or other fancy videostuff.
You are confusing PCI-E with the PCI-X that the board has.
PCI-X is an extended PCI slot that can do 64bit and 100MHz instead of the normal PCI being 32 Bit and max 66MHz.
This lifts the PCI speed from max 256MB/s to 1.2GB/s.
Raid controllers and very-fast network controller bennefit a lot from this.
Ergo, the K8D boards are for server use only.
If you want a big graphical workstation with 2 Opterons, it's the K8T Master board that you are looking for.
But it also doesn't have PCI-E as of yet.

  • K8D Master

I am searching like crazy, but I can't seem to find any info on when the K8D Master (MSI-9131) (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/server/svr/pro_svr_detail.php?UID=441&MODEL=MS-9131) motherboard will be for sale in Europe. ;( Can anyone tell me, or point me to this information? Any help is much appreciated!!

    Hi again!
I've looked into the power supply of the other server we built with the same specs. and as far as i can see it does not have more than 18A*. It might just be that the motherboard is damaged, so we will return it now to the re-seller.

  • K8D Master-FT PCI / Riser Card Help

Ok, I have just taking my first venture into the true server class motherboard.  We chose the K8D Master-FT w/ a pair of opteron 240's.  I have ran into a few issues that I just can't seem to find any answers on.
    1.  We used a third-party case which didn't come with a riser card.  Do I need a PCI-X riser card or can I still use a 32bit riser.  Also once I have the correct riser card can I still use 32bit PCI devices on the riser?
    2.  Next if I only want to use one slot can I just use the PCI-X slot on the motherboard without a riser?  If so can I use a 32bit PCI card?
    Thanks a bunch in advance.

Ok.  Here are the details.  We get the system board in and we grab a rack case with the correct form factor.  Problem is the case didn't come with a riser card.  None the less we where under the same impression that we could stick a PCI or PCI-X card in the slot.  We only have a single card (RAID controller) which we intend to use.  When we insert the PCI (32-bit) raid card in the PCI-X slot the system won't boot.  We even tried inserting the card every which way we could in the slot thinking maybe we had inserted it wrong.  Still no luck.  Should our raid controller be 64 bit?  Also we did have some riser cards that came with some ATX form factor rack cases, but when inserted into the PCI-X slot, the card slots face oddly up the motherboard towards the I/O panel.  Thanks.

  • K8D Master 3-133 FA4R: deactivate VGA

    Hi,
is it possible to deactivate the onboard-VGA on a K8D Master 3-133 FA4R?
I've a PCI-VGA Card wich works like an IP-Extender so i can view&control the Computer over the Internet.
    Best Regards, Erwin Preuner

Well it does say Offboard PCI/ISA IDE device and then the manual talks about a graphics card should work correctly????
Could be a typo on the BIOS or in the manual (I hope the first), but that's the closest as I get to an option.
However, with most MSI boards, adding VGA card to a system with onboard VGA, will take the added over the onboard.
    But I'm guessing now.

  • Multiprocessor PC ACPI vs MPS, K8D Master

    I got a K8D Master with 2 AMD opterons....
I installed windows 2k pro on the pc.  I was told I need to turn multiprocessor support on in device manager.. I went in to it and see that ACPI Multiprocessor PC is the driver installed.
Should I leave that (is it supporting both CPU's?) or shoould i change it to MPS Multiprocessor PC ??

ACPI Multiprocessor PC sounds right to me
ACPI Uniprocessor PC is the right way in a single set up
