K8MM3-V picky about hardware?

Hello,
I just purchased (around a month ago) this mobo. It is a great running board, but I seem to be having issues with it being picky. I have a NVidia FX5500 from the system this motherboard replaced (the old motherboard bit the big one) and on the MSI I have problems with it where the screen tears and whatnow when I try and game, take it out of this system and put it in my 1ghz IBM and all works great. I was thinking voltage, but they are fine. I also had a Sound Blaster audigy that would just not work with directX and games. Heat is not an issue as I ran prime95 for over an hour and the CPU never went over 44C and system never over 40C. I don't think there is anything wrong with the board just seems odd how picky it is. It replaced a PC Chips motherboard (I will never buy again) and the old board always ran the CPU at 1998 MHZ or so this one hangs around 2009.8 (just numbers to see if there is a problem if anyone knows). Specs are:
AMD Athlon 3000+ 64
1gig ddr pc 3200 ram
450 watt PSU (new)
dvd burner
dvd reader
160gb ata drive
40gb ata drive (slave
2 case fans
onboard graphics and sound (now)
I guess I'm just asking are these normally picky? I love the board so far and notice more performance then what was from the PCChips.
Thanks in advance!

Just in case: if the problem you have are caused by the power supply you have now, then keep in mind that installing a faster vid-card will not solve the problem, but make it more serious.
The funny thing here is the IBM still has the stock PSU rated at 150 Watts and runs the card fine. I have always built my own systems, but I have 2 IBMs here one a 400MHZ and a 1GHZ still plugging away as if they were new. I have to admit I am very impressed by how stout those 2 machines are.
I am looking at some Coolmax PSUs as we speak since I have read that Antec can be hit and miss I will be upgrading my PSU. With my specs and a modest video card a 450 should carry me just fine as long as the amps are up right?
Thanks for the replies!

  • About hardware test on Mountain Lion

I tried to hardware test few different way, as using (Hoding d, option+d and also same thing with usb).
    But nothing work.
Anyone know about how to try hardware test on Mac Pro with Mountain Lion?

try using Application Isntall DVD disc which came with your Mac Pro.
(as usual, to use AHT, hold down the D key when you start up your Mac Pro.)

  • About Hardware encryption AES 256 bit crucial mx100

My question works it automatically or works the hardware encryption windows only ?
because not sure is it safe enough and also about speed.
sorry for my terrible English. You can answer in German and English thanks.
Meine Frage ist ... ob die Hardware Verschlüsselung automatisch vom Controller crucial mx100 gesteuert wird oder funktioniert es nur unter Windows ?
es muss ich filevault benutzen um die Daten zu schützen ?

Hardware encryption is a feature of SSD's. It is transparent to the user and you don't have to do anything to enable it. The data on the SSD is encrypted with a random key. When you erase the device, the key is destroyed. You can't use hardware encryption to protect your data from theft. For that, use FileVault.

  • Still in a quandary about hardware specs. What do you think?

I need to build a new system as editing machine for CS4. Everything is more or less clear as to what I need, there are only two issues remaining:
    1. How much RAM to install, and
    2. Disk setup.
As always there is the balance between performance and costs. Since this is not "an unlimited means available" type of machine, you will not see much esoteric components, like SSD raids or nVidia Quadro CX card. It is a dual E5472 Harpertown system (8 core), running Vista 64 Business.
    1. How much RAM would be a good balance in price/performance? 8 or 16 GB? We are talking about Kingston Value Ram DDR2-6400 ECC FBDIMM, either 4 x 2 GB ( 420) or 4 x 4 GB ( 650), with the possibility to double memory in the future. If you do not make a habit of continuously switching between PP, AE, EN, PS etc. and are mainly using only 1 application at the time, I wonder if there is a noticeable performance gain to justify the additional cost. The choice is obvious if the total cost of the machine would not be stretching available means. So what do you think?
    2. Main storage is 8 x WD Caviar Black 1 TB disks in raid50 for media, renders, scratch etc. But what about the boot disk? Either a 300 GB WD Velociraptor ( 240), or 4 x WD Scorpio (7200 RPM) 160 GB in raid10 ( 250), using on-board ESB2 chipset.
While we are at it, does it make sense to add 4 x WD Scorpio 250 GB in Raid5 (on an Areca ARC controller with free ports) only for pagefile, projects and temporary export. Final export will be transferred over the network to a burning machine for DVD's. Backups of projects is to external USB disks and on a separate machine over VPN.
The case has room for 8 hot swappable 3.5" disks and 8 hot swappable 2.5" laptop disks plus another disk and a DVD/BR burner internally. There are still 4 external eSATA ports available for future expansion. Foreseen video card is ATI 4870 512MB. Network is currently a 1 Gb connection, but can be enhanced to 2 Gb with 2 NIC's.
    Look forward to your reactions.

    Bill,
    The case is the
    Supermicro SC743TQ-865SQ
and the storage bay for the 2.5" disks is the
    Addonics AE4RCS25NSA (2.5 Disk Array 4SA)
Thanks for your remark about the difficulty of troubleshooting boot arrays. That might be an advantage for the Velociraptor.
Dag, no. I don't make the mistake of visiting Amsterdam, unless it is absolutely necessary, like visiting the IBC, let alone visiting those bars. I came to realize that Vista has grown up a bit with SP1 and with full support for 64 it now makes a bit more sense than XP64. It does imply a couple of days tweaking Vista (= removing 'features') to make it work decently, but after that is accomplished I will make a slip streamed DVD version for future installs, so that is a one time investment. With recent enhancements in Nullsoft that is easily accomplished, including all intermediate patches and 'Patch Tuesday' versions.

  • How i can submit a complain about hardware problem in Macbook Pro early 2011?

    Hello every one,
I bought my Macbook on September 2011, and it worked fine with me for about 1.5 years, but suddenly i got freezed screen when it was on the discrete graphic card, then the same problem happened with the integrated one. and now a gray screen come after the startup apple logo, and the computer is not working. When i searched about this problem on the internet i found that many people faced the same problem and the solution is changing the main board, which will cost a lot of money. And when i contacted the custmer service, they reject to agree that this is a manufacturing problem and they insist that i should pay to get the problem solved because the warranty is just one year. So i want to know how can i contact Apple to complain about this issue, because they should extend the warranty about this problem because it happened for many computers from this generation.
    thank you in advance.

I went to Apple store and they confirmed the problem as a problem in the main board or the main board and the screen. and here are some links for similar problem with the same model:

  • Tiger becoming more picky about fonts?

Background: I have a lot of fonts installed. It would not surprise me at all to learn that some of them are defective.
I have not, however, installed any very recently. Suddenly, the System and Console logs were full of complaints about bad fonts being detected. Using Font Book to identify problematic fonts and placing those in quarantine has stopped the error messages, but I wondered why the fonts should suddenly be an issue when they were not before? It isn't linked to attempts to use those fonts or anything like that, and the errors showed up in all kinds of applications. It just seemed odd that the system would suddenly notice issues.
I'm also sure it is not due to the fonts being corrupted. Many of these are also installed for use by LaTeX and the copies there seem to be the same as the copies in the main font folders. It seems unlikely that those copies would have been corrupted in just the same ways as the main system copies.

    Thanks. Here's what I tried:
    1. used Font Book to validate fonts & moved all those it found errors in to another directory (so they don't show up in Font Book now and are effectively disabled)
    -> error messages stopped
    2. used Font Book / manually resolved duplicates (I have one remaining duplicate which isn't actually a duplicate - not sure what to do about that)
    3. disabled a great many fonts in Font Book (but all fonts in /System/Library/Fonts are enabled and all Apple supplied fonts in /Library/Fonts are enabled)
    -> thought problem was solved
-> errors reappearing in logs but are Spotlight-specific e.g. "/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/Metada ta.framework/Versions/A/Support/mdimportserver: Unable to use font: no glyphs present." etc.
-- I'm wondering if Spotlight is running into errors because it is also trying to index the problematic fonts which I'd moved out of the Fonts folders...?
    4. use Font Book to validate fonts
-> no errors or warnings in Font Book but I see several errors in the system log file such as '/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks /ATS.framework/Versions/A/Support/FontValidator: "pathtofontsfolder/Fonts/_MS-Fonts/Batang.ttf" contains localized PostScript name.'
    Suggestions and/or insight welcome!

  • Information about hardware development links

    Hello everyone,
Sorry to ask this in this forum but I know no other compatible forum. My question is: how to develop a script or program that accesses hardware ports directly. Is it possible via SQL? Maybe via C++ or much more difficult if not impossible via Java? Thanks for any information.

Did you try googling for this?

  • Question about hardware pecking order

    These are my current specs:
    Intel Core 2 Duo  E8400 @ 3.0 GHz
    8.0 gigs of RAM
    Windows Vista 64-bit
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA, 7200 RPM (for media only)
Looking at that list, what needs to be upgraded first, and what can temporarily remain, to edit AVCHD effectively in Premiere Pro CS4? I suspect #1 on the list is a faster processor, but what specifically should I be looking for? Is a quad fast enough, and if so - which one? I've heard about i7 but don't know much about the nuances of these things.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Paul

Have a look at the http://ppbm4.com/Benchmark.html results to see what makes a fast computer. If you do the test yourself, you will know where you are currently, but my guess is that you will end up with a total score around 130 - 150 seconds.
Also have a look here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/598040
Keep in mind that budget is good for DV & HDV and for AVCHD you need to look at the economical build.

  • Batch list import is picky about line terminations in the text file

After running into trouble trying to compose a batch list for import, I isolated the issue:
The text file that you attempt to import must have "carriage return" characters at the end of each line. It can have a "carriage return" and a "line feed", but it cannot have only a "line feed".
If you feed Final Cut a text file that does not meet this criteria, it will barf up this error message:
One or more items on the header line do not match valid Browser column headers.
Line terminators have been the cause of many a problem over the years! Typically, MSDOS/Windows systems tend to create text files that use a CR-LF combo. While Mac OS was typically just a CR. And UNIX systems have typically been just an LF. However, since Mac OS X is now a hybrid of older Mac ways, and UNIX ways, you can find mixed situations there. For example, the Mac OS X Text Edit program saves out files with just an LF, and thus can't be directly used to create batch lists for Final Cut.
So, you need to be careful what means you use to create batch list text files.
Hope this helps some poor soul some day!
    -Rick

I am trying to export a batch list created in FCP 5.1 to someone with 6. I follow directions, export and save and then e-mail the file. When he tries to import it, he gets that message ("One or more items on the header line do not match valid Browser column headers"). But I have tried re-importing it from my desktop and have no problem. Is there a problem going with such simple data from 5.1 to 6? Is it possible that the e-mail transmission is corrupting the files?
    Thanks for suggestions.

  • New to Mac computers-need advice about hardware

I purchased a Mac computer on eBay knowing that the mainboard needed to be replaced. I purchased it for the software on the hard drive. I need to replace the mainboard and do not know anything aside from that the bottom is white, round, and has a silver apple on it. I need to purchase a mainboard for the older computer, and don't know what to ask or search for and I would like to know who I could purchase a mainboard from. Any advice would be appreciated. The serial number for the computer is QP30837HNHX and was initially purchased from Apple in Feb. 2003. I've noticed that these computers have models named after large cats, i.e. Jaguar, Tiger, etc. I don't know what mine is, other than it has an 80G HD, 1Ghz G4. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello! Here is a rundown of the computer.
    Serial number: QP30837HNHX
    Name: iMac G4 (Early 2003)
    Model: M6498 iMac G4 1.0GHz
    Bus speed: 133MHz

  • Netscape 4.78 seems to be very picky about mime multipart/alternative?

(This may be sort of OT for this forum, but I figured I'd give it a shot.)
I'm experimenting with the javamail API and am having undesired results with mime multipart/alternative.
The message I'm constructing looks like it's correct on inspection (see [1] below), but Netscape Messenger 4.78 insists on displaying the text/plain part, not the text/html part. When I create a similar message from within Messenger (see [2] below), it looks to me to be virtually the same, but Messenger properly displays the text/html part.
Also, when I send my sample message [1] to Outlook Express, OE correctly displays the text/html part. (Haven't tried Eudora yet.)
Is it possibly ordering of the parts? The charset? I guess I can test some more...
My sample code is listed at [3].
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Thanks for the pointer.
It turns out it's the order of the parts that seems to matter to Netscape. It seems to use the last bodypart by default. So all I did was move the text/html part last, and now Netscape does what I expect.
I tried taking out the charset and encoding, and it still works... it's definitely the order.
Aha. This is actually indicated by the MIME RFC. From http://www.isi.edu/in-notes/rfc2046.txt, section 5.1.4:
In this case, the alternatives appear in an order of increasing faithfulness to the original content. In general, the best choice is the LAST part of a type supported by the recipient system's local environment.

  • About Hardware Upgrades on EliteBook 8560w

Hi. Can I use the HP 1TB SATA 7200rpm Hard Drive(L3M56AA) or only the HP 256GB SSD M.2 2260 PCIe drive(L3M57AA) to upgrade my laptop. Thanks !

Hello According the specifications you could use both. In both specs HP ZBook 14/15/17 Mobile Workstations is showed, in your 8460w only in  L3M57AA. The official info the suggests parts are:750 GB, 7200 rpm 633252-001
    500 GB, 7200 rpm 634926-001
    320 GB, 7200 rpm, Self Encrypting 626978-001

128 GB solid-state drive 653434-001 Your notebook will loose battery autonomy with  1TB HDD. I suggests you to use low capacity HDD/SSD and buy an external HDD due is better keep the data (personal) out of notebook for safety proposal, HDD could fail, notebook could be stollen... Resume: The best solution is HP 256GB SSD M.2 2260 PCIe drive(L3M57AA) plus external HDD (not SSD) Regards

  • IPod Touch very picky about WiFi networks

It appears that some of you have already noticed that the iPod touch does not play well on some WiFi networks that otherwise should not be a problem.
My own personal experience is this. My iPod touch works great on my home network as long as I don't have my repeater plugged in. It's all Linksys gear, probably what 80% or more of you have.
I have tried it on two networks outside my home so far, and neither one has worked, while my laptop has no problem at all with the same networks. I'm at a Best Western right now. My Ipod is behaving the same way it does when I'm home and my repeater is turned on. It sees the network, gets an ip address and appears to connect properly, but doesn't go anywhere when I try to use any of the apps, Safari, YouTube, or the iTunes store.
The other network I tried is at work. This requires WPA security. In this case, I can't get an IP address or connect at all. This after verifying the SSID and password many times. Once again, I have no problems with my laptop on this network either.
It appears that the iPod touch is in desperate need of a few bug fixes and compatibility improvements in this area. I hope Apple is working hard to deliver a firmware update that will correct these issues soon.

My home connection works great with just WEP encryption with a hidden SSID (yes I know it is weak but it is just a deterrent so the war driver will pass me up and go to the 10 other unsecured networks in my neighborhood haha).
That being said I have had issues with my companies wireless on campus. I found a trick around it though which might help.
If it has connected once before to the network in question and will not the 2nd or 3rd time:
    1.go to the settings
    2.then wireless
3.tell it to forget the network in question
4.wait in the wireless settings screen for it to see the network in question again and tell it to rejoin.
I guess this sort of flushes out any corrupted/ weird settings.
It has worked well for me.
