K8N Diamon Plus - Optical Audio

Heya Peeples
I've got the MSI K8N Diamond Plus mobo, which I am using in an HTPC.
Currently I am reduced to using the rear audio jack (the green one) because for some reason the Optical SPDIF doesn't seem to work.
I have it connected into my Denon AVR-2105, and I know that its neither the AVR thats the problem nor the cable because I connected the PS2 and it worked fine.
It is also obviously not the JAUD1 header not being jumpered correctly because the rear audio jacks are working happily.
Help!?!?!
PLEASE!!!!!

Of Course, sorry guys - I'm used to having my system specs in my sig (in the AMD forum).
This box includes:
    CPU:   AMD Athlon X2 4200+
    RAM:   4 x Kingston 512MB PC3200
VGA:   MSI NX6800GT 256MB (only one)
PSU:   Antec True Control II 550W (all voltages etc set at standard, only PSU fan slowed)
DTV:   Leadtek Digital TV capture card
    Case:  Thermaltake Soprano
    Input:  Logitech MX3100 wireless/laser combo
    HDD:   4 x Seagate SATA2 250GB in Raid5
    DVD:   LG DVD/CD Burner
    FDD:   Panasonic 3.5"
The video outputs to the SVGA input of my Sony Plasma Tuner.
Audio outputs to my Denon AVR-2105 AV Receiver.
BIOS is (I think) version 1.1 - I updated it to the latest one about 3 or 4 weeks ago, at which time I also updated all other BIOS and Drivers available.

Do all these boards have this problem?  Great, I just bought this board because I wanted to be able to utilize my front breakout box for the mic input and headphone usage and didn't want a board with an onboard realtek chip.

  • Adapter cable for K8N Diamond Plus PCIE cable?

I guess the K8N Diamon Plus was made before standards were settled, since it has the oldish IDE/Molex power connector for PCIE cards. That while Power Supplies now use the standard connector. Of course there are molex connectors as well on the PS cables, but many power supplies are split into 2 or 4 channels and you're better off using as many channels as possible.
The problem is: I can't find any adapter cable with (female) PCIE --> (male) Molex... I can find cables with one male PCIE and two Molex (don't remember if they were male or female), but not the right kind. I would look more closely now, when buying, and I now know about PS with split/combined settings - but the two PS I have are both "not right" for the Diamond Plus.
Any help with such cables? I'm in Stockholm, Sweden, so something in Europe would be preferred.

  • K8N Diamond Plus Audio Problem

New rig - have the K8N Diamond Plus, AMD 64 X2 4400+, Logictechz5300-e speakers.  When testing audio - the front speaker channel does not work - the center and rear are fine - tested to make sure it wasn't the speakers - definitely a mobo problem.  Have tried it set to 5.1, 6 and 8 channels.  Has anyone else experienced this issue??
    Thx

The audio signal from DVD or CD is passingthrough IDE CABLE digital..(When listen CD audio). Now with X-FI you must buy(of corse if you have the money) 7.1 audio speakers like mine(gigaworks s750) to take full advance of your card.Believe me you won't regret it!.

  • K8N Diamond Plus audio out problem

    Hi,
I'm having an issue with the audio out on my K8N Diamond Plus. The rear audio out works fine when left jumpered. However when I connect the front panel audio connector to the mother board the volume of the rear audio out drops to an almost in audable level while the front panel audio works as expected.
At first I thought the rear audio had been completely disabled until I tried turning my speakers all the way up.
Is there a software issue here?
FYI I'm trying to use the front pannel audio connection on a Silverstone TJ07 case.

hey - mikein_texas here - i have same board but with a Centurion case -
couple of things i ran into - maybe will spark some ideas
initally i hooked up front panel audio and got nothing
then i read on page 2-19 of manual that 5-6,9-20 have to be jumpered for rear audio to work
but that means no front audio which was a drag - but solved that prob with usb mike and headphones
apparently unless i am reading it wrong and someone please correct me if so, but you can have front audio OR rear audio
    BUT not both
again look at page 2-19 in manual and specifically at text in grey box in middle of page

  • K8N Diamond Plus' Audio drivers 4 Vista RC1???

Guys i need to find drivers for RC1 Vista for my built in Mother board creative Audigy SE on K8N Diamond Plus. Can any one help me where to find these drivers????????

well i installed the vista RC1 and downloaded the Audigy Se's vista RC1 drivers from creative's  web site and i installed it on my system and it detected my motherboard's audigy SE as audigy live 24 bit but there was no sound so i updated the driver and i gave the path of my window's xp driver and it worked for windows vista RC1. and my sound card is now dectected as audigy SE not live 24 bit. thanks to msi for making a driver which works with both xp and vista RC1. i ll try to install the Xp's driver directly on Vista with setup.exe, and will see if this will give me all the sound configrations which we do see in windows xp. But i still request MSi to provide us good vista drivers.
    I have one question,
CAN WE INSTALL AUDIGY SE's DRIVERS DOWNLOADED FROM WWW.CREATIVE.COM FOR AUDIGY SE BUILT IN SOUND CARD OF DIAMOND PLUS MOTHERBOARD(FOR WINDOWS XP) ?

  • MSI K8N Diamond Plus - Guide to my first week

OK, not a newb here, but been around the block quite a bit.   MSI K8N Diamond Plus is my 5th A64 mobo (ECS K8M800, my daily undestroyed computer, K8T800, my 12 year olds gamer, Asus A8V Deluxe, first 939 system, Abit AN8 SLI, first SLI gamer, and now the MSI Diamond Plus).   Had the KDP (K8N Diamond Plus) for more than a week now, and here's what I've learned.
This is state of the art again, and we have no one to blame but ourselves for the pain this causes us when we upgrade like lunatics
And as usual, the drivers and BIOS are al Dente (i.e. not cooked enought yet, a little raw)
MSI is also oddly silent on this system, which is wierd, as they are a large company, and specifically cater to enthusiasts.  But their BIOS guys are MIA.  Hopefully this will not be forever.  Asus, ABIT, DFI, Epox are always fast with fixes
The board is a nice design, with everything basically accessible, as much as any other board.   Lots of purposeful components, not too many dumb frills.  No tooty fruity colors, but rather practical parts.
The new 2 piece NForce chipset is fine, and the MSI guys gave us a decent, but funky cooler.  It gets a little warm to the touch when you pound on it with Prime95, or Quake4, but other than that it is fine
The manual has a zillion typos, and fortunately for us in this forum, we have shared what we've learned.  The translation from Chinese to English leaves quite a bit to be desired, and hopefully, MSI will learn from Asus and Abit and get a better translation service.  In 2006 this is just plain stupid, especially with a $225 board
As usual, the mobo supplied tweaker utilities are just aweful.  They look like a hallucination from a Hunter S Thompson book, and they work about as well.  Core center is a sad state of affairs, and the rest of them just burrow their way into your otherwise stable system and cause it to have poor behavior.  And therefore as usual, the BIOS is the best way, if slowest, to tweak this bundle of parts
Which brings us to the BIOS.  IMHO, the worst one I've seen on a high end board.  ZERO explanation for half the settings (this is not strange in and of itself, BIOS is still a black art, but in a tweakers board, we should have some basic explanation  )
There seem to be adequate settings in the BIOS for all sorts of doodads and gizmos, but who the heck knows what half of them are.  Roger points out rightfully, that we now need to "Tune" across all these different intermediary bus structures and test.  But with the lack of info from either NVidia, MSI or anyone else for that matter, its kinda hard to know where to start.
The board is clearly sensitive, which is a result of it being high strung.  This is no different than any "first out" product I've ever bought.  Most take 2 or 3 turns of the crank to get totally stable and forgiving.  This one hated my OCZ platinum EL 2Gb kit memory, and it brought out the worst in one of the SLI based EVGA 7800 GT COs.   These components worked in the Abit AN8 SLI (although not always great), but the MSI has ZERO tolerance for even the slightest pertubation from the memory.  It was BSOD city until I removed both of these components by process of elimination that took probably 100 hours
Once I removed the bad components, and replaced the memory with Geil Ultra X 2x512 2-2-2-5, it worked great, ran Prime95 for 10 hours with no errors, and seems reasonably stable.  I've RMA-d the bad 7800GT CO back to EVGA, and will report back on how SLI behaves when I get the new one (cross shipped of course, I haveno patience )
I also now need to replace the 2Gb RAM kit with something that the board will tolerate.  I may RMA the 2Gb kit back to OCZ and try another one, but I dunno.   I love OCZ but I have a bad feeling about this, even though they have great!!! support.  I may try OCZ PC4000 or the RAM that Roger successfully used.
I did upgrade to the 1.16 BIOS, and found that some new things were added, as well as voltage control in Cell was a little better, but registration of changes in voltage is still a disaster.   I adjusted a bunch of times, it didn't register, and I ended up smoking a new A64 3700+ Diego with 1.95 volts, even though the BIOS claimed it was 1.53.  I had to rebot to see what was going on.   The Thermalright XP-90 kept the proc from melting down through the earth
Finally, I hope this board attracts more people, and therefore more tweakers that can figure out all these gadgets and settings.  Everyone flocked to the Asus X16 SLI product, which is too bad, as this one needs lots o' folks to hack it up for us to figure out what is going on.
The on board Creative audio sounds lousy to my ears, and I will replace it with an Audigy 2ZS gamer that I had in the Abit.  It just sounds better, but hopefully the drivers will not trash my newly stable system.   Creative scares me, they scare me alot.
I've been able to get the CPU up to 2.4Ghz, with a .5 volt bump to the CPU and 2.9 volts into the Geil memory.  So far, so stable, no smoke coming out yet
I hope this info is somewhat valuable to someone on this board.  I will post details of all changes that I make, as others are doing, so we can at least take care of ourselves with this thing.

first of all, i do think that all the settings in the BIOS have an explanation in the manual, even if it's a basic one. if that explanation doesn't tell you everything in detail, is because if you do need a detailed explanation of the settings, you probably shouldn't be messing around with those settings.

  • CPU Usage 100%? K8N Diamond Plus

Never before have I witnessed the CPU being used at it's absolute maximum.  It has been occuring regularily with my system.  I noticed it first when my screen saver started getting jittery.  This seems to occur most often about 1-2 minutes after windows finishes loading.  It seems kind of odd to me that this occurs during typically idle system times.  The memory usage also dramatically rises during these spikes, using ctrl+alt+delete I noticed svchost.exe to be the culprit of the memory usage atleast.  The hard drive doesn't appear to be active when these events occur.  Is this normal for this motherboard, or is this something that should be corrected?
I've always had 3 short beeps upon startup with this board, but it has never stalled the boot process.  Anyone know what this means?
I've upgraded my board somewhat recently and carried over the CPU and memory from a older MSI model that used the same type.  Could it be possible either or both are incompatible?
Also one, somewhat less important problem.  First off I must say that the PS/2 power on feature is pretty cool.  I used it with a wireless keyboard so I could turn on my PC from my living room HDTV (I have my comp wired through Y/Pr/Pb cables).  Only problem is about one in every 4 or so shutdowns the system restarts immediatly when this feature is selected in the bios.  Bios issue maybe?

  • What optical audio cable to use with Mac Mini (late 2009) to receiver?

I want to do the following (removing TiVo for something else is NOT an option, EVER):
    1) I want to watch TV through my HD TiVo (better than sex, better than chocolate, better than sex, chocolate, and anything else you can combine together).
    2) I want to watch DVDs plus iTunes videos plus listen to iTunes audio through my Mac Mini.
    3) I want to have digital optical audio (TOS?) 5.1 dolby for both
On the Mac Mini it says it has digital audio out. Isn't that the same thing as digital Optical audio out?

You need a regular optical digital cable, often called a Toslink, with a 3.5 mm miniplug adapter on the Mac mini end. The port is a combo port. When you insert the optical cable's miniplug into the port, because it is a tiny bit longer than a regular 3.5 mm miniplug, it activates the digital audio. Usually the port's output is analog by default.

  • Problem with K8N Platinum Plus

    Greetings all,
I am an veteran builder and am having a strange behavior that I need some help with.  Here is some background on parts:
    MSI K8N Platinum Plus
    2 x 1GB OCZ PC-3200 (OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K)
    600W OCZ supply
    X2 4400+
    (2) eVGA 7900GT's
(I can give more specs if necessary)
    Problem:
The board posts and I can interate just fine up until the OS boots...  I just partition copied my previous Windows XP SP2 installation from my old HDD to the new one.  I knew that XP would rescan hardware and I had a 50/50 chance of not having to reinstall.  Each time I boot the box and let XP load it gets to the "starting up" and does nothing... goes no where, yet the keyboard is not locked up (CAPS lock turns on and off still).  I left it running for about an hour, just hoping... nope.  Ok, so fresh install, whatever... XP disc starts up and just as it goes to flip over to start the installer the monitor goes black!  Nothing, CDROM spins down and nothing EVER happens.  I tried flashing the beta (NOT what I would normally do) bios, but nothing changed.  I tried other memory, no change.  I pulled one of my video cards (no more SLI), no change... pulled the sound card, no change... Wierdest thing is that is both cases (booting old XP and trying to install new) the machine is not locked up.
    Ideas?

    Jason,
There are people that do not like multiple RAILs on PSUs for supplying high power systems. Personally I think that a high end Power Supply with multiple RAILs will work but the lower end PSUs with multiple RAILs will not supply the needed juice.
Multiple RAIL PSUs are a new technology and with all new technologies there are going to be teething problems. It is to be expected.
I was trying to figure out why your old comp stopped working too.
On the new comp, lets try Bare Bones for the install of your OS. I would like CPU with heatsink/fan, 1 Vid Card, 1 stick of RAM at 3.4.4.8 Timing with the Voltage bumped up one notch, 1 HD and if you are using RAID 0 - then 1 Array, 1 Optical Drive, no PCI Cards, Keyboard/Mouse/Monitor. Lets see how far you get though a fresh install.
    Take Care,
    Richard
I will try this tonight... last night I tried something VERY close to what you are suggesting, the only difference is that I am not sure that I used 3.4.4.8 on timings... I just used whatever the default timings on the DIMMs are, which should be 2.3.2.5.  I only have one HDD, 1 Video card, DVDRW, floppy, CPU, memory (1 green, 1 purple -- is this right?) and that did not work either with DVI connect or using VGA through DVI adapter.  I did see that someone else was having some Video cracking using a DVI connector... wondering if mine is somehow related to that problem... although, I get NO video (past POST) and he does.
As far as the multi-rail thing... well, if the PSU is on the "A" list of DFI's and nVidia gives it a "SLi certified" then I would think that it would be just fine.  Is my power supply fine or not?

  • Soundblaster Audigy on MSI K8N Diamond Plus, Sound Linked? vs Audigy2 ZS?

Had a couple of quick questions regarding the Soundblaster Audigy onboard chip on my MSI K8N Diamond Plus.  I have the audio connected to a front panel, and when I try and change the Right or Left speaker volume balance in Windows (by going to volume control and dragging the balance slider right or left), the volume slider goes down and the balance slider snaps back to center.  As in my previous post, I had some damage to my front panel connector pins and wanted to make sure this wasn't a hardware issue requiring a replacement of the board.
Also, I have a Soundblaster Audigy2 ZS card from my previous system, and I was wondering if it added anything the onboard Soundblaster chip doesn't provide.  I was thinking of installing it, but if the onboard audio does everything the card would, I'd rather just use the onboard solution.
    Thanks.

  • K8N Diamond Plus, Line-In & AVerMedia Studio .103

    Hello,
I got K8N Diamond Plus and AVerMedia Studio .103 audio out connected to my onboard sound device's (Audigy) Line-in. I don't know how to describe the situation but I'll try. The problem is that the captured audio is some kind of wavey like an old "record", the sound is cry-like especially when there's a music in the background.
It is really annoying to have such a problem with this kind of expensive product. I'm sure it's not TV Card related because I use it for 5 years now with the same OS, Application, Drivers and cable. The day I upgraded my system I met this trouble. I've searched for driver updates, chipset updates related to this issue but couldn't find any. I tried every possible option/configuration with the sound card and no hope.
I think it is because that the line-in is also used as an output with the 4 speaker configuration. Every passed day with this issue I add spoilt videos to my archive and this upsets me.
Thanks for your help and concerns
    Yours respectfully
    M. Erke Tiryakioglu

The line-in only has dual fuction in 8 speaker sw config (7+1) .
With 5.1 and lower the numbered jack #1 is only having line-in config.
Make sure you have correct Multi-Channel Audio Function mode properly selected in the software
    utility for your speaker connections/configurations.
And use the Creative web update to have the laterst drivers and software .
First of all thanks to all of you guys...
Secondly, I was just trying to point out that may be the dual-function support (doesn't matter when) is doing this...
And yes I am using windows XP as it says in my signature, but thats not an issue since i used this card (AverMedia) with XP pro for four years with no problem.... I can't say anything about the dual-core tho...
BTW I tried to manually update the audigy from creative's web site, but couldn't be sure if I had to download the Audigy drivers or should I use MSI's web site for my sound device, since it's on board? Or is there a version in the Creative web site to, or even the audigy drivers itself may be? Do you have any suggestions? MSI doesn't have an update tho I know that..

  • K8N Diamond plus!!! Help onboard sound

Hello, I have seem many posts about the onboard sound blaster and this board.  I have a slightly different story.
I am one of the many who have VERY low volume on my onboard sound blaster audio. I read about needing a -5V rail and some other posts, but i decided to just buy a PCI version of the card instead.   Well i plugged the card in, Removed the old audio drivers and installed the PCI sound blaster card...and guess what, I STILL HAVE LOW VOLUME!!!!!  WHat does this mean?  Is the power supply screwing with both audio devices? Is it the motherboard??? DRIVERS?? HELP!!!

  • K8N Diamond Plus microphone not working

    Hello All...
Thanks to everybody who helped me with my cpu power problem - the computer is up and running wonderfully now.  The only issue that I'm experiencing, and I'm fully prepared to accept user error, is the fact that my mic is not working, or the levels are EXTREMELY low.  I have an antec case, and I used the pin header on the motherboard for front panel audio which contains a mic input and a line out (For me, it's for headset convenience without having to remove my speaker wire).  Since both the pin header and the connector conform to Intel standards, I think that's not the problem.  I've used the drivers on the CD as well as the drivers on the Creative site for Soundblaster Live 24 bit.  Both the front and rear connectors (and either version of the driver, for that matter) yield very low volume from the microphone.  I *could* suspect the headset, but it's fairly new and worked yesterday, and also, the earphone portion seems to work correctly.
    Since you'll want my specs:

Let me know if I can provide any other info, and thanks in advance for any assistance
    Steve

Didn't seem to make any difference.  I jumpered the pin header so that it was back to the way I got it out of the box. I even used a microphone for our camcorder, and that didn't seem to get any better result either.  Very strange...........
