K8N Diamond+ 6600GT=green videos

hello.
i have the following problem: since i upgraded my system to winchester 3000+, msi K8N diamond sli and msi 6600gt pci-e all the videos (avi + mpg) are shown in green, a green checkpattern or even freeze the system.´
first i tought it may be a codec prob, but uninstalling and installing correct codes and even trying playerz with build in codecs such as the (linux) mplayer - but that didnt help.
so, at last, i reinstalled my system:
1. windows xp pro
2. sp 1a
3. 6.37 mobo drviers (i am using that beta dirver, since all other mobodrivers cause problems with online gaming and surveyprogs like everest, butnevertheless i tried official drivers as well-still didnt help)
4. directx 9c
trying to play a video with the mplayer works as fine as it should without a videocard driver.
but as soon as i install a videocard driver the above discribed problems reoccur.
i tried various drivers, starting from the 66.93 from nvidia hp, the msi dirver from the cd delivered with the vidcard, the drivers form msi hp, and of course plenty of drivers i found on guru3d.com, including the latest 71.80, nad "old-school-drivers" like 66.00.
i testet the temperature via everest. in idle mode cpu and gpu are below 40°C. bios proves everest right. so it cant be a temp prob.
i had no problems, artefacts , whatsoever during the benchmarks (3dmark2001/2005). also Call of Duty and Doom 3 run perfectly for hours.
only Warcraft doesnt want to start....i get a green screen at the very beginnig...i suppose that is due to the video that is played at wc3startup.
with one beta driver (i think it was 66.10) i was able to activate hardwareoverlay, which did help playing videos "better", but then wc3 claimed it couldnot find directx. testing via dxdiag it showed direct 3d produced mistakes. asking google i decided to deaktivate all the none necessary crap in the bios (sil-controller, marvell lan, craetive sound) to avoid irq problems.
that made dxdiag happily testing the direct 3d, but still videos are green.
strangely, now i even cant choose that hardwareoverlay option anymore, and i havent found it in another driver yet
it seems that quicktime movies cause no trouble.
thinking it might be a problem with the 32bit mobo drivers i even installed the win xp pro 64 rc1 on my other hdd, putting on the brandnew 64bit mobo and vidcard drivers - same problem here.
this problem has kept me hostage for days and i start feeling a little despaired.
i was mighty happy if anyone could help me.

i tried various codecs and playerz with build in codecs. i even reinstalled my system 3 times - still videos are green with an vga driver installed.
also the fact that it does show videos correctly when no vga driver is installed shows it is not a codec problem.
annybody got other ideas?

also what video drivers are you using?
what was the order of your xp install?
where is your page file?
what config are you hdd's in?
when was the last time you ran dxdiag? (post log here)
when was the last time you defragged? adaware spyware removal?

K8N Diamond Sli - DIMM Slot failure ..

i have 2x1Gb crucial ballistix tracer rams which i am am running only 1 in slot-1 (green closest to cpu) at the moment due to this problem
i think my purple slots have died..
inserting ram into both slots 1 & 2 cause beeping on start up... resetting cmos didnt help and adding voltage didnt either
i have tried moving to slots 3 & 4 with still no luck
1 stick works fine in slots 1 & 3 ...... Rams together in both 1 & 3 seem dont boot up but no beeps on inital start up
My rams have LED's so i can see if they start up properly....unfortunately [ for me ] anything with a slot 3 or 4 combination is out of the question
the Problem occurred when i added an external card reader into the usb slot..... i was thinking its a power problem but any help would be much appreciated
i am currently using 1.6 BIOS due to the fact that i am able to run 1T timing as i have tried a couple of different bios and tried to run 1T
i am thinking of a power inadequacy [ <---- lol not sure on spelling] as i have water cooling and many fans on a 500w power supply

Can't get k8n diamond plus working with 4x1Gb

I managed to get the DDR memory frequency running at 333MHz using only 2x1Gb in the Green slots of the motherboard (as listed in page 2-7 of the K8N Diamond Plus Manual).
However, when I add the other 2x1Gb modules to the Purple slots, the system does not even come up.
I've then went back to 2x1Gb in the Green slots so that I can get the system to fire up, gone into the BIOS and adjusted the settings according to the configurations below and restarted.
I've then shut-down and re-inserted the other 2x1Gb into the Purple slots so that 4Gb is present, then rebooted but the system still does not come up.
Adjust CPU FSB Frequency: 200.0
Current DDR Memory Frequency (this is Read Only) DDR 333
Adjust DDR Memory Frequency: set to Manual
Memory Clock: Tried all of the following for DRAM/FSB 1/2,2/3,5/6,1/1,5/4
Does anyone know of any person who has got a K8N Diamond Plus working with 4x1Gb ?

Tried removing one of the video cards and disabling the sound card (as suggested by http://www.asktheramguy.com/v3/showthread.php?t=65436), but the system still didn't fire up with 4Gb RAM.

Row 7 of the table above indicates "BIOS Sign On" and this should start showing information about logo, processor brand name etc, but this does not occur.
The cycle (phases 1 to 8) then repeats incessantly.

2 'problems' with the K8N Diamond Plus

Hi there.
I just bought a K8N Diamond Plus and I'm having some troubles installing my system in conjunction to my Decklink Extreme PCI-E ( http://www.decklink.com/products/sd/ ).
Here's my configuration:
MSI K8N Diamond Plus
AMD64 X2 4400+
ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA
Decklink Extreme PCI-E
2GB RAM ( 2 x 1gb) Kingston
OCZ-520 12U Modstream Power Supply
plus 6 HD's (7200rpm) and 1 DVD-+RW
The problem is, when I try to initialize the system with the Decklink, which it's a PCI-E 1x, it just don't boot. Neither putting the Decklink on the 1x, nor in the 4x slot and nor in the 16x.
The Decklink is working just fine in another system and doesn't seem to be a problem with this card.
I wondered if there's any limitation in the K8N Diamond Plus with working with the ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA plus the Decklink.

The other thig is that when I take off the Decklink, the system boots normaly but a message appears while booting: "Not enough space to copy PCI option ROM 00:13:00".
And I don't have a clue about what's going on.

Remove the battery away for 10 minutes, clear CMOS, start the system to load setup/optimized defauts in bios setup. After that, disable all onboard items in bios setup that you won't to use. Save and exit.
Plug ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA card, and start your system to check if there is the error message. If there is, borrow another brand VGA card to do a test.
Besides, update your MB bios and driver version to the latest one.

K8N Diamond - SLI woes - I am almost ready to scrap it ALL! DESPERATE!!

OK - story, brothers pc that I built for him almost a year ago, couple of months after the build, purchased another 6600GT to fill the second slot (both MSI 6600GTs) worked a treat, SLI, boom boom, no dramas. The card was removed from the system (borrowed) a couple of months later to fit to another system as a test card, and he was without it for a couple of months and just running the one 6600GT again. Since then the card has been returned to his system, but I can't for the life of me get the freaking SLI to work again

This evening I have literally tried everything I could think of, started with driver cleaner and then reinstalled the 84.21 drivers I'd had working with it originally but no go.
Then installed the 91.31 drivers in vain knowing full well the result would be no different.
Removed both the cards, flipped the SLI config card and tried each card seperately thinking maybe one of them was dicky, nope.
Put them back with card two in card one's position and vice versa.
Cleared CMOS
Format C: reinstalled XP, thinking maybe coolbits had dicked something up or there was something yuk in the registry from when I originally removed the second card but HADN'T DISABLED the SLI multi GPU feature in the Nvidia control panel before I shut down and pulled it out.
SP first boot installed all drivers Nforce, sound, network between reboots and then 84.21 again, no joy.
Desperation sets in
So I'm looking at the piddly TT 400W psu wondering if maybe the couple of months 'work' it had done between the card being removed and then refitted could have been enough to wear it down to a point where it wasn't going to play the 'SLI game' anymore, yep, really clutching at straws by now.
Unplugged it all and fitted up an Antec 480W TruePower 2.0 I had sitting brand new in box for a rainy day, but alas.
So now I sit here typing this rant, staring across at the system to my right which is idling away and smiling at me while it displays the NVidia SLI config box with Nvidias little speel about adding a second graphics card for significant improvements in rendering technology with no option to enable SLI and I'm left thinking, what the hell do I do now arrrghhhhhhh

Yeah I'm 100% sure this is hardware as opposed to Windows, though it would be nice to know what the PCIE VGA Link Width should be reported as for both a single card and SLI... I've never flashed the BIOS on this, irrelevant considering the SLI WAS working all peachy.
Yeah the SLI switching card has definitely been reversed and re-reversed... I know because I take my time doing it cause I've seen people bend pins in teh slot by putting it in at the wrong angle. I've also had it out and back in a couple of times since to make sure that it wasn't a seating issue.
So my SLI switch is in the right way and my bridge is sitting on top of my two cards but it still won't play ball. Although I've turned the bridge around as was suggested I can't see that would make a difference because I reckon it's the same both ways, the bridge, not the switch that is.
I really don't want to have to RMA the damned thing, bahhhhhhhhhh this will be the second (seperate) Diamond I've had to send back to my wholesaler for RMA !!!

K8N Diamond Plus, SLI and Creative X-Fi cards, anyone running similar?

I get crackling and popping noises when running most games, e.g. BF2, Fear, FarCry. When my 2x7800GTX's are in SLI mode it crackles loads, e.g. start far cry, click options, and listen. When i disable SLI mode it crackles less, but it still crackles. Many others encounter similar issues with their systems that are not identical but the symptoms are similar - high load = crackling/popping.
My question is:
Is anyone here sucessfully running any X-Fi card (music, fatality, elite pro, etc) with 2x video cards and NO crackling/popping in BF2, FEAR and FarCry?
I've already had a replacement X-Fi card from creative which their tech guy said "should" fix it, lol, I'm wondering wether to replace my A8N32-SLI with an K8N Diamond Plus to fix the problem. Besides, the MSI board has better PCI slot location and works with nTune too unlike the ASUS board.

I hate to see peep's having soooo many prob's and it sucks major BALLZ. The reason why I'm reposting is that I encountered a new issue. Not with my rig, but a friend's.
We pretty much have the same setup. Differences are he's using 2GB of Corsair DDR400 (which is picking up as DDR333 as well), different branded video cards (I'm running two EVGA 7800GT's in SLi, he's running two BFG 7800GT's in SLi), XFi Platinum (me, Fatality Edition) and he's got a dedicated ITE RAID PCI card for his RAID from his previous rig. Configured his BIOS pretty much the same way I have it running (he wanted to Overclock his AMD x2 4400+ to 2.6 GHz), but when it came to installing Windows we kept getting BSOD's during installation. Looked over things numerous times and it didn't make sense. We resetted the BIOS to default settings and Windows went through without a hitch. We tried OC'ing it one more time and Windows was fine. But, when he installed and ran Quake 4, either Windows or the game would just lock up. He booted back into the BIOS and put the CPU back at stock frequency of 2.2 GHz. Game ran flawlessly afterwards. That points at the processor. The only differences were we both have different stock fans and his CPU was manufactured in July '05. Mine in Sept '05. His rig also reports the infamous "Phantom" PCI modem as well.
Quake 4 is the only game he's got installed so far, but he reports everything is set to their highest qualities, including resolution. He said it runs great with no anomalies. He's going to install Dawn of War and Winter Assault later I know.
Me? I haven't run into any issues with any games either, including F.E.A.R. as Hydrasworld asked. Both of our sound cards are in the Communication PCI Slot of the motherboard. My take on the OC issue is since we're using different proc's from different wafers, maybe my chip had revisions in September that the July proc my friend has didn't. Also, his heatsink has one less copper pipe I noticed. I'll still drop by for help. Good luck to you all and the only other thing I can add is try using the latest drivers for each piece of hardware you've got.

P.S. If you can and you purchased a retail version of the processor, on one of the sides of the carton insert for the processor, a date should be printed. Maybe that can explain some issues. Once more, my proc was manufactured September 15th, 2005.

Just built a K8N Diamond system with Silverstone Zeus 650w PSU - wont boot

I just built a system with a K8N Diamond and a Silverstone 650w PSU. When I turn on the PSU i get a "thumping" sound from it for a short while and a green light on the back panel of the pc case. No fans or anything else starts to run. I have connected both cables to the mainboard from the PSU, and everything else, gfx, harddrive and so on. Any suggestions?
Correction: I have not connected any of the cables with power swith, leds and so on..

1 x MSI K8N Diamond
2 x Gainward 6800 Ultras in SLI mode
1 x WDD Raptor S-ATA
1 x keyboard
2x256mb Corsair dual channel ram in the green slots
I have connected both cables to the mainboard to power it up, and the cpu fan and a case fan. I have not connected the series of cables with hdd led, power switch and so on..
When i turn on the psu i get a "thumping" sound.. a strange sound i havent heard from any psus before. and the only activity i get from the mainboard is the green light for a short while when i turned on the psu. *frustrated*

Aftermarket HSF options for K8N Diamond Plus

Just built a new rig with the K8N Diamond Plus and am very pleased with the board -- worked great from first power up and with a little BIOS tweaking I have no trouble getting a 50% overclock from my dual core Opteron 170. No headaches at all, unlike my previous experiences with Abit boards.
The AMD heatsink fan unit (with heatpipes) provided with the 170 is not bad at all, but I'd like to replace it with a more capable unit, along the lines of the Zalman 9500, Scythe Ninja, Tuniq Tower 120, Thermalright XP-120, etc. The tall heatsink of the Nvidia NB is close to the CPU socket and quite high, so I'm not sure if any of these will fit. Anyone using one of these or similar heatsinks ? Please let me know if they fit, or did not fit.
Since I could find any of the 7800GTX 512MB boards I wanted, I'm using a single MSI X1900XT card right now but plan to go SLI in the future with 7900GTX cards driving the 30" Dell monitor. The ATI video board and nVidia mainboard surprisingly get along great, with no crashes so far and 3DMark06 scores above 6000 -- the X1900XT is an impressive piece, and much faster than the X800XT-PE I had in my previous computer. But the fan can be extremely loud and the Catalyst Control Center sucks. Unfortunately the old ATI control panel is no longer offered...

The problems your are talking about are not uncommon with this MS-7220. The BIOS Clear Circuit physically has problems and that is not something they are going fix with a BIOS upgrade.
The BIOS Clear Circuit actually trashing the values stored in the CMOS by not doing a complete clearing of the CMOS is causing the problem. What leaves trash for parameters, for the BIOS to use when rebooting.
Let give you an example that fits your case. You can set the BIOS to turn the system on at any give time and date. So, if the trash in CMOS is in those parameters storage location. Therefore, whatever trash value gets stored in the locations, as a dated and time, will turn the computer on at that time. So, you could of had the computer come on in the meddle of the night two week later. Now, think of all the functions the BIOS have and how many weird things people are having and do not know why. There is one guy that is a regular on the Forum how has been fighting a problem I know is caused by trash in the BIOS CMOS, but Strick and I have ask him to do a good CMOS clearing and he just will not do it. I even wrote out in great deal the over night CMOS clear procedure I use. It is a pain in the ass, but some times, I have too use it. I just had to use it, upgraded V3.09 using short CMOS Clear and had no problem. Used the short procedure again when upgrading to V3.0A and everything when to hell, had to finally use the long overnight procedure and reinstall Windows to get computer to run right again.
NoBS, when your computer goes BOOO during the night just plain it o MSI.

When submitting a problem, include a complete list of your system components; include part numbers, all Power Supply Voltages, and their output ratings. It is almost impossible to estimate what your problem is without knowing something about it.

Clicks with K8N Diamond Plus

Guys,
Maybe some one here can solve this one.
As you can see in my sig: I have a K8N Diamond Plus board and I love it! Rest of the specs are in my sig as well. I have a weird thing with it for some time, but it seems to be getting worse or, putting it right, it occurs more and more.
The pc is running just fine. Sometimes there's coming two clicks out of the case, about 1/2 a second after each other. It sounds like a mechanical something, but I'm unable to locate where it comes from. The pc simply keeps on working. No hangs, no BSOD's, it's fine. The only thing is that the sound is interupted shortly with each click.
To make it visible:

When I watch a movie, the same happens. Video-playback, however, isn't interupted at all.
Does anyone have any suggestion what this could be?

PS: I had a simular setup first with the K8T Neo2 board. The problem never occured with that board, so I asume it's the mobo that's doing this somehow.

The more I try to locate the sound, it looks like it's one of the Raptors (or both).
yes sound normal for me, for Raptor don't know, for seagate think no, HITACHI(my currently doing the same), and Maxtor(DM 9 got before also making click/click)

K8N Diamond Plus + Vista upgrade issues + Memory

When I go to install Vista Business , I receive an error before the install saying that my motherboard is Non-ACPI compliant. I went into the bios and and made sure that all ACPI settings were turned on. Also I installed 2 more gigs about a month ago and only see 3 gigs on post instead of the 4 that is installed. I tried to update my BIOS using the MSI utility but received a memory error saying it can detect the correct amount. I ran MEMtest and it passed .Here are my system specs:

I have the same motherboard with 4GB Ram. I had to enable the memory hole in the memory configuration of the bios for it to see the full 4GB. However, Windows 32-bit will not show the full 4GB ram since 32-bit addressing limit is 4GB and all your peripherals have to be included like vid card memory, etc. So don't beat your head against your desk once you get your bios seeing the 4GB and Windows 32-bit doesn't. My Vista gives 2.8GB ram of my 4GB, some get more, but I know I have two video cards with 768MB ram also. I'm using 1.2 bios.
Incidently, I ordered an OEM Vista X64, it will be interesting to see if it sees all my memory since 64-bit can go up to enormous addressing ranges.

Decent PSU for K8N DIAMOND

In this configuration the system works perfectly but my custumor found the power supply to noisy. So I chanched it to an ENERMAX EG425AX-VE but then it got too quiet. It got so quiet that there even didn't come any sound anymore out of the speakers. I thought it came from the power supply so I chanced it with an antec true power 550W EPS12V. But still there wasn’t any audio working. Then I tried an AOPEN 300W AO300-12APNFthen there was sound but after 2min there came I serious distortion on the sound…
I also tried a new win xp installation, Unplugging or removing devices but still no result the only PS that works is a cheap qtec 650W Triple Fan. Could you advice me on which PSU I could use in this configuration? Or would a bios update be a solution?

they used -5v in running the boards sound chip
and the very newest psu dont give -5v as it was dropped from latest atx specs
as bar the diamond its been an unused voltage for years
they say you can rma it and they will fix this on the diamond forum
or find a good psu gives 24a or more and has 0.5a on the -5v rail

MSI K8N Diamond not booting

I have a slight problem with MSI K8N Diamond. It is not booting and according to the manual d-bracket says memory error.
My system:

When I got motherboard, I plugged everything in and it seemed to work. I got to sleep and on the morning the motherboard didn't boot up anymore. D-Bracket just says memory error and nothing comes to screen. Because of that I sent the first motherboard for RMA (did cost me 27 euros). I got new motherboard today, but I have the exactly same problem. System not booting up because of memory error.

As for the PSU, you can try with the PSU of your friend to test the MOBO.
But do the following, take the MOBO out of the case and test it outside on top of a pile of newspapers, then put in the CPU+HSF, memory 1 stick in slot 1, gfx, and your friend's PSU, press the CMOS reset button, connect the AC plug to the PSU and start it. Test it like this...and post back with results...

MSI K8N Diamond - SLI-switchcard plastic piece broken

Hi.
I have MSI K8N Diamond that has SLI-switchcard. It is being held down with that nasty plastic piece. Now I can't make the plastic piece hold any longer. As soon as I let my finger off switchcard, that plastic piece pops out. Is there any better solution to hold down the card?

Contacted Technical support they report the 2nd pcie slot is bad, this dang thing isnt two weeks old :!

I have the sli bridge on the board in sli mode... and only a card in pcie slot two...
I get what seems to be 1 long and 3 short beeps... no video..
Does this indicate pcie slot 2 bad, if so what do I do to return this board... its less than a two weeks old.

Please have the SLI Bridge set for SLI Mode enable and retest with only the 1 video card into slot #2.
If this works then it indicate the PCI-E slot is fine and the SLI Bridges are the cause.
If it did not work at all then the PCI-E slot #2 has problem which the mb needs to be serviced:

K8N Diamond Memory Problem

Hi Everbody,

but I have a problem. I'm installed four 1Gb DDR 400 Kingston (KHX3200K2/2G). But my computer show 3.4 Gb memory on the bios and 3328 Mb on the windows. What is problem? Where is it problem? Can you help me?. Thanks....
