K8N Diamond SLI and K8N Diamond SLI PLUS

What is the main difference besides, Sound Card and HeatPipe Cooler
Thanks...Shutdown Guide

garfildd,
You also get two PCI-E Slots that will both run at 16X at the same time, even though no Vid Cards out there can use the extra Bandwidth.

  • Difference between K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI and K8N-SLI Platinum

Hey guys.... I have one question and i hope you can help me.
I'm about to get an MSI SLI Platinum motherboard, but it seems that there are two versions, the K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI and the K8N-SLI Platinum.
What is the real difference between them? As i can see in the manual, the Neo4 version has the additional SATA2 and Gbit LAN controller.
Anyone: Does your K8N-SLI board have 4 or 6 SATA2 ports? and 1 or 2 LANs?
At this picture  http://www.midtdata.dk/asp/index.asp?varernr=K8N-SLI-PLAT&goto=productinfo&mainfunc=link I can see that there are 6 blue SATA connectors (lower right corner), and 2 LAN ports left to the LPT port... But the description says 4 SATA and 1 LAN, and so says the manual.
To all owners of this mobo:  Does this picture look like your K8N-SLI Platinum or does it look like your K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI ?

  • Are RAID arrays portable between K8N Neo Platinum and K8N Neo3-F?

I think my K8N Neo Platinum might be toast. If that's the case and I upgrade to the K8N Neo3-F, do I get to keep my RAID arrays or do I lose all my data?

I was thinking that since I was going from nForce3-250 to nForce4 I might have trouble porting those RAID arrays over. As such, I'm debating whether or not I should get a pricey K8N Neo to replace the one I have or upgrade to a much cheaper PCI-e K8N Neo3-F (opportunity to get a new vid card, too). Anyway, I have data on the RAID array that I REALLY want to get back but my current mobo is not letting me do that at all for some reason. Not sure if anyone has tried this or not, but I would REALLY like to recover my data without buying an expensive old motherboard. MSI support has given me the usual runaround with "Have you read the manual? Blah blah blah..."

  • Neo Platinum and K8n Diamond

, is all this Noe Platinum stuff
i got a K8N Diamond , and i've seen peple say that the Neo Platinum is untoched by it?
is this true, if so,  how  and why?

    hahahahahahaha!
difference is just that the Diamond comes with a Wifi 802.11G card w/ Bluetooth. in some regions (like where im from), the Diamond also has an actively cooled heatpipe for the mosfets. the SLI Platinum doesnt.
i have however seen a review of an SLI Platinum with actively cooled heatpipe so it really depends on the region. its the Wifi + Bluetooth card that is the main difference afaik
also, you are a member of the Diamond club and get this nifty little credit card type thingy which you can use to join MSI's online Diamond club.
does that answer your question? please dont swear at me!

  • MSI P7N Diamond can't SLI and Triple SLI in Vista x64?

Any brothers here can tell me what the issue with it?
Currently on Vista Ultimate x64 and using the nvidia  169.25_forceware_winvista_64bit_english _whql driver.
Can't SLI and don't even say about triple SLI.
    plug in 3 x 8800gtx all can't work.

Also check to make sure your power supply is certified to support 3-way SLI with 8800 GTX cards.  I have a CoolerMaster Real Power Pro 1000 and it is not certified for 3-way with 8800 GTX cards.  It IS certified for 3-Way with the 9800 GTX cards.  The 8800 series apparently draws a bit more power.
Check the SLI-certified power supplies here: http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_build_psu.html
i thou the PSU listed at Slizone is just a guideline? Oh men. Can't imagine i spend so much on the enermax psu and in the end i doesn't have enough juice for 3 cards.

  • K9N2 Platinum Sli and onboard

quick question , don't know if this will work , could i hook up a second monitor to the onboard vga , so i can have sli and dual monitors? I have read that you can run both if you add the third vid , but would i be able to do it with the onboard as the 3rd?

ok no one wants to have fun with this one?
so far , 180.48 drivers support dual mon and sli , yet for some unknown reason , i can't get both 2 work after a reboot. I can get a 22 lcd and a 19 lcd both on dvi (digital) to work in sli after changing and detecting and screwing around for about 30 minutes , and it works great BUT soon as i reboot , the second monitor goes away and thats the end of it . i have tried it with just the 2 9800gt's and also with the 9800gt's and the igpu .kinda screwey but hey , light fun for a saturday. no crashes or anything and gives me something to do while i fix the neighbor's pc. now i can get dual and sli to work , after reboot , if and only if , my second monitor uses the dvi-vga adapter and then it works fine. strange i say . works for me , cause the plan for the 2nd one is to just shpw temps and other monitoring apps while i game , plus the random page or 2 off the net. doesnt need to show pure digital bliss to do its job . I just find all of this rather odd , but hey , its nvidia for yah......
    any thoughts?

  • K8N Neo Platinum and Maxtor SATA II 250GB 6V250F0

    Hi folks,
Having a bit of fun with this one.  After first installing the new hard drive (Maxtor SATA II 250GB 6V250F0) , the BIOS immediately recognised it, I could boot into Windows, and Windows recognised it, and I thought I was in for a smooth ride.  Sadly, the good news ends there.
Tried to initialise the disk, but this simply gave an error after a few seconds, and wrote a whole load of controller error messages to the system event log.  Since then, I've done the following troubleshooting steps:-
    (1) Tried in Normal Mode and Safe Mode, made no difference.
    (2) Tried with the jumper on the back of the drive set to limit it to SATA I, as I'm connecting to SATA I controllers on the motherboard.  Made no difference with it on or off.  Tried a second jumper just in case the first one was faulty; still made no difference.
    (3) Tried using different power cables and molex connectors; made no difference.
    (4) Tried using different data cables; made no difference.
    (5) Tried connecting to each of the four SATA ports; made no difference.  Tested each port with another drive ((an older Maxtor SATA I drive, which has always worked fine), and they each worked fine.
    (6) Tried with and without another SATA drive (an older Maxtor SATA I drive, which has always worked fine); made no difference.
    (7) Checked the drive firmware (VA111630); apparently already the latest.
    (8) Used the nVidia registry fix to disable NCQ; made no difference.
    (9) Disabled write caching; made no difference.
    (10) Ran powermax 4.22 to test the drive, and it reports no problems with the drive at all.  Did the full surface scan just in case, and a burn-in test; these also reported no problems.  Curiously, they also reported no problems when I did the same tests with the back jumper removed; i.e. running it in SATA II mode when connected to a SATA I port apparently didn't bother powermax.  Go figure.
The only way I've got anything to happen with the drive so far is to set it to run in PIO mode(!), which I did briefly, and which enabled the drive to be initialised in Windows.  Haven't tried much else in that mode yet, not least because I have no intention of actually using it in that mode for obvious reasons.
So...we have a perfectly functioning disk, attached to a perfectly functioning SATA port, with supposed complete compatibility between them, and with pretty much all other bases covered, and the end result is...it doesn't work.
Has *anyone* got this particular drive model (Maxtor 6V250F0) to work with a K8N Neo Platinum, and if so, how???  ???  ???

Latest Update (this is a real Twilight Zone one ):
LOL, well I should have known better than to be optimistic about anything where this drive is concerned.  With Windows drivers installed, it seemed to work okay as a storage drive.  So I then installed XP on it, and sure enough it hangs when loading the OS.  As the next test, I did a clean install of XP on an IDE drive I have installed, which worked fine (could boot no problems).  I then cloned that to the Maxtor drive (the clean OS had no nVidia drivers installed), and not only did the Maxtor drive fail to boot, but so did the IDE drive (even though nothing has changed on that drive!)    Both would hang at the Windows loading screen.  So then I deleted the partition on the Maxtor drive, so it was effectively back to the situation where the IDE drive booted okay previously (with a blank Maxtor drive attached), but now it continued to fail to load.  If I unplugged the Maxtor drive, however, then the IDE drive would boot.  If I then re-attached the Maxtor drive, the IDE drive would still boot, even though that would be exactly the same situation in which it didn't boot before the Maxtor unplug and replug.  In short, it simply makes no sense whatsoever.  ???
    A summary of facts/findings:-
    (1) System works fine; all components checked and pass diagnostic tests, no Windows problems in the event log or device manager, no random crashes or anything like that.  The Maxtor drive passes Powermax tests fine.
    (2) If the Maxtor drive is attached while using nVidia drivers, it cannot be used at all.
    (3) If the Maxtor drive is attached while using Windows drivers (in UDMA6 mode), it can be used in some circumstances (described as follows).
    (4) If the Maxtor drive has no OS installed on it, it can be used fine.
    (5) If the Maxtor drive has an OS installed on it, it will hang at boot time.
    (6) If the Maxtor drive has an OS installed on it, other drives (being booted from) will hang at boot time.
    (7) If another drive has failed to boot because the Maxtor drive has an OS on it, deleting all data/partitions from the Maxtor drive will not enable the first drive to boot.
    (8) If another drive has failed to boot because the Maxtor drive has/had an OS on it, unattaching the Maxtor drive will enable it to boot once again.
    (9) Once another drive has managed to boot again, the Maxtor drive can be reattached (with data/partitions having been deleted), and it will boot again.  If it still has the OS on it, however, it will cause the first drive to hang again.
    (10) None of this highly abnormal behaviour is experienced using a Samsung Spinpoint drive (with the same SATA II interface) instead.
What really puzzles me about this is the apparent memory of the system for the previous boot.  (7) and (9) above are identical in the conditions of the drives when the boot is made, and the only difference in the situation is that before (7) the previous boot has failed, and before (9) the previous boot has succeeded.  How/why that should influence the current boot (after a hard reset, with power down in between to ensure no residual current effects), and why this should interact with the Maxtor drive but not any other drive, is a complete mystery.  It's also pretty odd that an OS can boot when the Maxtor drive has ordinary data on it, but will hang if the Maxtor drive has an OS on it.
There is clearly a lot more going on here than any standard version of the way OSs boot and load drivers can account for.

[Athlon64] MSI Diamond-D and OCZ memory compatibility

More imortant than the brand are the types of chips used.
Winbond Bh6 and -Ch5 overclock poor on a AMD64 system, or u need to set the vMem redicoulisly high.
With Samnsung and Micron chips u can get the same timings @normal voltages (2,7v).
Here is a list of chips, icw brands:
    http://www.techpowerup.com/memdb/
Make sure u get Micron 5B G or Samsung TCCD chips !
Agree with Stick about the amount of memory. First of all: Windows XP (32bit) cannot adress more then 3 GB, furthermore, no way in the world u are gonna use that memory. Stick to 2GB which is more then enough, heck, 1GB is allready more then enough 99,9999% of the time.

  • K8N Diamond Plus, SLI and Creative X-Fi cards, anyone running similar?

    Hi there!
I've got an ASUS A8N32-SLI board and my X-Fi card does not work with it, nor does it for many other people with similar setups.
    See here:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=31426
    and here:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=26289
I get crackling and popping noises when running most games, e.g. BF2, Fear, FarCry.  When my 2x7800GTX's are in SLI mode it crackles loads, e.g. start far cry, click options, and listen.  When i disable SLI mode it crackles less, but it still crackles.  Many others encounter similar issues with their systems that are not identical but the symptoms are similar - high load = crackling/popping.
    My question is:
Is anyone here sucessfully running any X-Fi card (music, fatality, elite pro, etc) with 2x video cards and NO crackling/popping in BF2, FEAR and FarCry?
I've already had a replacement X-Fi card from creative which their tech guy said "should" fix it, lol, I'm wondering wether to replace my A8N32-SLI with an K8N Diamond Plus to fix the problem.  Besides, the MSI board has better PCI slot location and works with nTune too unlike the ASUS board.

    What's going on guys.
I hate to see peep's having soooo many prob's and it sucks major BALLZ. The reason why I'm reposting is that I encountered a new issue. Not with my rig, but a friend's.
We pretty much have the same setup. Differences are he's using 2GB of Corsair DDR400 (which is picking up as DDR333 as well), different branded video cards (I'm running two EVGA 7800GT's in SLi, he's running two BFG 7800GT's in SLi), XFi Platinum (me, Fatality Edition) and he's got a dedicated ITE RAID PCI card for his RAID from his previous rig. Configured his BIOS pretty much the same way I have it running (he wanted to Overclock his AMD x2 4400+ to 2.6 GHz), but when it came to installing Windows we kept getting BSOD's during installation. Looked over things numerous times and it didn't make sense. We resetted the BIOS to default settings and Windows went through without a hitch. We tried OC'ing it one more time and Windows was fine. But, when he installed and ran Quake 4, either Windows or the game would just lock up. He booted back into the BIOS and put the CPU back at stock frequency of 2.2 GHz. Game ran flawlessly afterwards. That points at the processor. The only differences were we both have different stock fans and his CPU was manufactured in July '05. Mine in Sept '05. His rig also reports the infamous "Phantom" PCI modem as well.
Quake 4 is the only game he's got installed so far, but he reports everything is set to their highest qualities, including resolution. He said it runs great with no anomalies. He's going to install Dawn of War and Winter Assault later I know.
Me? I haven't run into any issues with any games either, including F.E.A.R. as Hydrasworld asked. Both of our sound cards are in the Communication PCI Slot of the motherboard. My take on the OC issue is since we're using different proc's from different wafers, maybe my chip had revisions in September that the July proc my friend has didn't. Also, his heatsink has one less copper pipe I noticed. I'll still drop by for help. Good luck to you all and the only other thing I can add is try using the latest drivers for each piece of hardware you've got.
    LPB
P.S. If you can and you purchased a retail version of the processor, on one of the sides of the carton insert for the processor, a date should be printed. Maybe that can explain some issues. Once more, my proc was manufactured September 15th, 2005.

  • Anyone paired up a MSI K8N Neo4 mobo and a thermaltake soprano w/PSU

    hello,
im pretty new here, im about to build a new computer, im getting a MSI K8N NEO4-F, and the case im getting is a thermaltake soprano w a thermaltake PSU, some ppl are telling me that the PSU only has a 20-pin power connector, will that work in the K8N neo4-f mobo ?
    any help would be appreciated
    thanks

i didnt mess with the door alarm thing lol didnt want to waste my time.  I just use my aspire 520 watt the amps are in my profile its only a 20 pin but it kicks a$$, Strong amps and great cooling.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817148008  its a little longer so when installing and removing psu just unscrew the four little screws for the top USB

  • MSI Z77A-G43 SLi and Crossfire

    Hello...
I would just like to know if there is a revision of this board the supports both SLi and Crossfire, because I was looking at Linus Tech tips videos and Linus mentioned that this board supports both configuration, but on my board there´s only Crossfire logo.
Is this just some misunderstanding or is there really a revision of this board that support both???

do not do that as you will break it!
some of the additional controllers have changed LAN non gaming is a Realtek® 8111E and the gaming has a Killer Networks E2205 so you will Brick the network connection.... you will also brick half the SATA ports as there connected differently for RAID!
the power delivery on the gaming for the CPU has been changed and you may also break that!
basically DO NOT DO IT as you have a 90% chance you will totally break the board and it will be your fault!

  • Sound is clipping / distorted (Marina and the diamonds)

Hi All, Just bought Spotify Premium to try out the better quality to get from spotify by subscribing. By listening to "Marina and the Diamonds" i hear several numbers where the Bass tracks are clipping, distorted. Listen fx to this number : "Walley of the dolls" approx 47 seconds into the song.... Has several tracks been sampled in overloaded - distorted??? BR Flemming

    webst wrote:
Daughter - Youth has enormous clipping in louder parts. You (Spotify) should replaygain everything in your database and implement replaygain support in your clients. I don't know the reasons behind that but every CD I rip since I remember was clipping and needed to be replaygained. There are some digital implementations of volume control that seems to alter waveform directly thus removing overdrive effect. Proper way to check it is make your software (i.e. spotify) to loudest level, make your system to the loudest level and use your amplifier to set proper output gain. You'll hear clipping and that is not high quality audio.
It would definitely have to be client side (Feature Request Topic) since Spotify don't (and aren't allowed to) edit any of the content they get from the record labels. In that sense, content Spotify provide to us "as is" they get it from the labels, hency why any requests for broken tracks to be fixed need to go labels.
