K8N - Doom 3 - Flashing dots?
So unreliable this board has proved so far. Occasionally shuts down after 3 mins for no apparent reason (although I suspect it's the core center getting the wrong temperature from the bios). Mouse freezes once in a while.
Anyway.. Doom 3 - fantastic game. Why do I get get flashing dots all over my screen though? It's an AMD 64 3000+ with a Radion 9800xt 256MB. Tried putting agp to x4 only and turned off fast write. Tried aperture at 64, 128 and 256MB (512MB RAM). Tried re-installing nvidia drivers and ati drivers... If anyone else has seen this and cured it I'd be very greatful to read their cure!
Yep, this is a sign of a video card that's overclocked too much. It happens when my 9800 Pro goes over 410 core / 370 memory. Back off the overclock or leave it at stock and try doing the 3DMark03 benchmark. If you get to the test with the rotating elephant and there's no white dots, it should be OK. The elephants is a good test for me.
I also got white dots after I updated the mainjboard driver (5.03), even without OCing. My only solution was to reformat my HDD and start from scratch. With this driver, I was getting 2 or 3 thousand points less on every benchmark. Installed the original drivers and my scores came back.

K8N Neo BIOS Flash; No Vid Signal
Another problem with this board!...I an attempt to cure some of the 3D game instability issues, I flashed the BIOS with ver 1.2 then 1.31. Did not cure the 3D problems, but now there is no video signal until WinXP is loading! (monitor light just flashes) Once in Windows it runs okay, albeit with the same 3D problems!
Anyone had this? It makes it impossible to get to the BIOS or boot with a floppy etc... By pressing the power off/on many times, occasionally the initial boot screen will show.

K8N Neo2 Platinum flashed with Neo4 BIOS
I decided to install the MSI Live update utility today. Following it's instructions and with a stunning display of ineptitude, I've managed to flash my Neo 2 Platinum with the latest (1.9) Neo4 BIOS.
I never thought I'd do something this stupid, but there you have it. As you'd expect, it doesn't POST. the D-Bracket shows it hanging on Initializing Hard Drive Controller (amazing it gets that far).
Just for the hell of it, I've tried all the usual (removing all components, holding Insert on boot, resetting CMOS) but it's looks pretty terminal. Can anyone suggest a way I can salvage this board? Is it possible to aquire new bios chips?
ThanksIf you are in Europe/UK then Yes - try http://www.eksitdata.com/_uk/index.asp
You can buy a new bios chip and get them to flash it with the file you provide AND for future saftey buy a BIOS Savoir as well. See my sig for model info. -
K8N Neo4 BIOS Flash Core centre problem
Hi All,
New here and with a question so here we go,
recently updated my bios with MSI live monitor and it updated the bios and everything is fine and works well except for core centre, evertime the computer starts it says core centre isn't compatible with your motherboard, have i done something wron and go back to previous bios version or is there a fix?? any help would be good.

I just flashed my bios to version 1.8....i cant it to post past the windows xp boot screen.....anyone know why and what i can do??!!?!
Everything was fine before running 1.5....
I read a thread somewhere in this forum saying 1.8 is good if you have Sempron (E6?). If by some reason you have to flash 1.8, search for User syar2003's post. I followed his procedures and I flashed 1.6 successfully. Bios 1.5 gave me a lot of troubles. -

MSI K8N Neo DOT screws up MSI 5900XT
Greeings,
I've asked this question in the motherboard section...now I'd like to try the graphics card section to see if anyone can explain some odd behavior I've seen with the following combo:
MSI K8N Neo Plat
with
MSI 5900XT
Normally, I run the 5900XT with manual overclock:
390/700 --> 490/780.
Since the increase in GPU is higher than the increase in memory,
I prefer manual overclock to DOT on the graphics card.
Anyway, 490/780 is rock solid...sometimes even up to 510/820 is,
but I keep it at 490...
Anyway, that's all well and good, but recently I've tried using
the motherboard's DOT feature to bump up CPU and memory speed
(but which should leave video card performance unaffected, right??)
When I apply a tiny 3% DOT (again, this is on the motherboard,
so I'm not DOT-ing the 5900XT card...), suddenly the video card
will crash (or freeze for 10 seconds and then run very slowly, an
indication that it entered throttle safe mode). This is really strange.
To investigate, I did the following experiment with aquamark3:
a) no overclocking anywhere: score of about 37500
b) same as (a) but set moboard HTT/FSB from 200 to 206: 37610
Seems reasonable to get just a slight speedup, since this step
doesn't boost video card performance, which is presumably the
limiting factor.
c) same as (a) but use 3% DOT on the moboard. This has the effect
of boosting the HTT/FSB from 200 to 206, which of course should
yield about the same performance as (b). But I get about 40000 (!)
This experiment indicates that a little 3% DOT on the motherboard has
the effect of also (drastically) overclocking the video card (and to
make it stranger, the video card overclock is far more than 3%...we're
talking 3000 aquamarks which is more like a 9% graphics card overclock!!)
That's probably why a little motherboard DOT combined with
my usual 490/780 5900XT overclock froze up the video card and causes
it to enter safe mode.
BUT the question is: WHY should motherboard DOT be overclocking
the graphics card in the first place? Has anyone else seen this? Is it
intentional?Using RivaTuner, which plots video card GPU and mem mhz in real time, I'm able to absolutely confirm that turning on either 1% or 3% DOT on the motherboard (k8n) has the effect of dramatically overclocking the video card (a 5900xt)
Strangely enough, the overclock of video card overclocks the GPU mhz but leaves the video card mem speed unchanged. Again, I'm using RivaTuner to make these claims.
I've tried with BIOS 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4b2
Examples:
gfx card set to defaults (390/700). moboard set to 1% DOT.
RivaTuner shows that aquamark3 starts at 390/700 for a few moments, then it jumps up to 429/700. Should have stayed at 390/700.
example 2: 400/700...actually runs at 441/700 (again, a 10% GPU overclock)
weird example 3: 405/700...stays at 405/700 (no GPU overclock)
example 4 (the killer): 410/700...aquamark3 freezes at frame 873 (graphics card goes into throttle mode). What does RivaTuner show?
It shows the graphics card running at 526.5, which is waaaaay over spec and is over a 28% overclock beyond what I asked for! (which was 410)
And where does the 28% come from? At least in previous runs it was either 0 or 10%, which at least I could plan around if it was consistent...but 28%?!
Bottom line: MSI K8n neo plat motherboard DOT (even at just 1% DOT) has a nasty side effect of also overclocking the GPU core. This is bad, but could be worked around if the amount was consistent. Unfortunately, the amount isn't consistent (usually 10%, but sometimes 0 or even 28%)
I'm not sure if MSI is doing this to look good in anandtech/tomshardware benchmarks, or if it's a real bug... -
IPhone 5 white flashing when on camera in the dark?
iPhone 5 when I go on camera in the dark I notice a white flashing dot above the option button. When I slide it on to video or face time camera it goes? Help!!!
The flash on a smartphone camera is tiny. It only lights up a very small area right in front of the camera. It won't light up the whole scene.
Have you seen the size of the flash on a professional camera? Even they can't light a whole scene in the dark.
Fact is, a smartphone camera is not capable of taking good photos in the dark, even with the flash.
You'll need to buy and learn how to use a professional, dedicated SLR camera to be able to take good photos in the dark. It is not easy. -
Why Is My 27" iMac Showing Random Moving Dots
My Imac Is Showing Random Moving Flashing Dots On the screen any help is great here is a screenshot link https://www.dropbox.com/s/4857q93vf09r4mo/Screen%20Shot%202013-04-17%20at%2011.0 5.38%20AM.png
It's could be a sign of an overheating iMac.
When was the last time you vacuumed out all of the vents slots and ports around your iMac?
You have tp power down your iMac, disconnect everything and unplug your iMac.
Use either a small electronics vacuum or a standard vacuum with hose and crevice tool attachment and slowly and carefully vacuum out all of the various vents, slots and ports around your iMac.
Then, reconnect everything, startup your iMac. Download and install iStat Pro temperature monitor and report your iMac's temperatures here. -

after installed XP and chipset drivers and etc,
Run 3D mark01 with no AF or FF, i got a score: 186XX
One of my friend got a 21XXX score ,his PC:

Aye no problem, and you are right, at the end of the day, if you play the games you want to play the way you want to play then the benches can take a jump. I only use benches for comparing my system config with a previous config, and for stability testing.
Nice overclock by the way. -
Voice memos has stopped working
I've just tried to use my voice memos on my iPhone 4 and when trying to record, I've noticed it's not working. The sound is being picked up, as seen by the noise meter moving, but it isn't actually working. I hit record and exited the program. The red bar that tells me I'm recording failed to appear. I opened the program back up, hit stop (which did nothing), hit pause, then hit recordings (which also did nothing). Is this due to a glitch in iOS5.1, or do I need to do something with my iPhone?
I have the same problem on voice recognition and only receive 3 flashing dots. Siri works OK. I did hard restart, did not help, reset, did a network reset and that did not help. Called Apple and told them that my daughter's phone worked. Mine has worked for about 25 days good. Siri works. Apple support had me to turn off Siri and restart, that did not work. Then I was told that this was a problem with Apple software and management was aware of it. I asked when it would be corrected and was told that they did not know. Support told me there was nothing else they could do to get it working and I would just have to wait on the new update which they cannot give the date. I told them my Droid X did not give me this problem and even the old plip phones had voice recognition. The only hope for us is that at sometime Apple will correct their stupid problems that have always been basic in cell phones for years. I use apple computers and this is my first apple phone and beginning to realize Apple is beginng to slide backwards.

"This backup is too large for the backup volume" - Info
Hi there. I had a problem with my time machine and got an error stating "This backup is too large for the backup volume". I did noticed after logging in that TM was indexing in the upper right corner [magnifier with a flashing dot(spotlight)] for a few seconds. So then I went on to "back up now" and it was preparing and then I got the Error message described above. So I uninstalled my anti-virus (you must disable auto protection/or exclude timemachine.app and its plist file (location below)from Anti-virus preferences in the case you have a anti-virus app, otherwise it will take forever to back up.) though that was not my issue. I then turn off time machine and deleted this .plist file in Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > com.apple.TimeMachine.plist....STOP here if this fixed your problem after restarting. Time machine External Drive in Disk Utility **THESE STEPS WILL ERASE YOUR ENTIRE BACKUPS** ( "Erase" and rename or "partition" to make more that one partition on the External Drive if you wish, and Rename) (Disk utility> Partition tab> "option" you must - guid=intel / apple partition map=PowerPC)...sorry alot of newbie out there...by deleting the "com.apple.TimeMachine.plist" = when you plug in you TM it will ask you if you want to use the drive as a TM back up automatically. This did the trick. But to let you guys know I also used Cocktail (app) and used a feature it has to erase my computers spotlight index and rebuild it. Also in Cocktail, when you have your time machine plugged in you can erase its index and disable it all together. I recommend you first disable spotlight (before the first initial TM backup) in system preferences > spotlight> Privacy (tab) and plus to add time machine ...which has to be mounted (plugged in) to add from window under "Devices".

Hi all
Here are the symptoms:
0. Otherwise normal system usage; system uptime more than 24 hours.
1. System freezes.
2. Three loud beeps, identified as the self-diagnostic report for cases of RAM failure.
3. Message in console/terminal style characters in the upper left hand corner of the screen: "debugger called: double panic"
Additional info:
(A) Does not seem to be timed with installation of new software or new usage pattern.
(B) Apple "genius" ran hardware diagnostics; RAM as well as all other systems passed.
(C) This happened before, but I didn't notice of there was a message or whether machine froze
(D) In response to (C), I had re-seated RAM as instructed in MacBook Pro manual.
(C) MacBook Pro, mid-2010; Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b); 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7; 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3; NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB
The "genius" couldn't find anything when he searched what he termed "the knowledge base." He didn't have access to the message, though.
Google has been useless, but I am not that great a google searcher.
I hope no one has had anything similar---but if you have, let me know what, if anything, helped!
Thanks!I am re-opening (or rather just continuing) this thread because this problem persists. This time the machine was asleep, with the lid closed, and the three-beep RAM fault alarm started going of. The machine would not wake up and I pushed the power button and held it to turn it off.
I upgraded to 10.7.4 recently (as soon as I was notified by the system update message).
This time, when I restarted, it began indexing the disk using Spotlight. The little flashing dot appeared in the magnifying glass, and if I pulled down the menu, it gave the message that's given when it first begins indexing.
Here is the result of executing the commands recommended above:

Nokia n80 video is perfect in "light conditions" but its dull conditiosn its just really really really terrible with llots of little flashing dots everywhere.
anybody else have this problem? and will it be resolved?Have you checked you have the right video settings for the environment you are in? N80 camera is probably more advanced than other Nokia camera phones you have used and making sure you are recording in the right conditions is important.

Brand new Nokia N900 ceases just after half a day ...
I recieved the new Nokia N900 as an upgrade. It crashed few time opening emails, however restarted automatically. Later on it crashed on ovi map (pre installed). I tried rebooting after taking the taking the battery out and putting it back in - no joy! I tried startgin without the sim card -still the same problem - it starts with the Nokia banner and then 5 flashing dots... that's it.
I have used Nokia for over 10 years, I never experienced this from Nokia.
I think N900 is still 'Work in Progress', am not sure if it is fully tested yet!!you need this thread!
/discussions/board/message?board.id=maemo&thread.id=1799
This is a known problem.. And I'll be brief here since there are lots of posts about it..
A bug in the firmware causes some devices to reboot.. Your's is an unluck one.. There is a permanent fix in an up and coming firmware release (not the one released today.. but soon) but in the mean time we have a work around..
you have two problems.. first getting your device booting..
Each time your device randomly rebooted itself, it increased a counter.. when this counter reached its upper limit (17 reboots) the device will STOP booting.. as yours has.. To reset this limit you need to manually restart your phone.. use the power button to turn it off.. use the power button to turn it on and the counter goes back to zero..
problem is, your device has already reached the limit so we need to trick it into going back to zero..
The easiest option may not work for you.. but it is fairly simple..
Take the battery out.. plug your phone into your computer.. put the battery back in.. allow the phone to boot..
If that doesn't work, you'll need to use the longer process detailed in the link above.. Read the first post carefully and see the section:
REPAIRING A DEVICE THAT NO LONGER BOOTS
If your device won't boot and won't respond to flasher.. the battery could be flat.. you MUST charge the battery to get your device booting. To do this you'll need to find someone with a Nokia N900, 5800 or 5230 handset since they all use the same battery.. If you device won't boot, it won't charge..
Ok, assuming these instructions have helped your device boot, you need to implement the patch to stop it rebooting..
Open this URL in your phone
http://chris.intrepid.cx/N900/fix
Click and INSTALL the first link.. when you click the first link select open..you'll be taken to app manager and you must proceed with the install
Go back to the browser and click and SAVE the second link.. Save the file in the documents folder of your device..
now, open an Xterminal and type these two commands exactly.. remember they are case sensative:
sudo gainroot
sh MyDocs/.documents/fixpm.sh enable
Reboot your device once more and you should hopefully have a happy N900!
Any problems refer to the first link in this post... and post and questions in that thread.. -
Some Search Boxes have 3 lines - Cursor appears in wrong on at times
Thanks for Looking. On Many Various Websites ( maybe all ) the cursor can appear in the Search box sometimes high or more often Low. It Flashes but does not accept data entry. I have Screen Shots of Amazon and Ebay with low cursor -- when cursor is high it only appears as a flashing dot in the upper left corner of the search box. Most Commonly appears Low -- shows full flashing cursor. When in center, it functions as it's supposed to. Has done this at least since 28 or 29 version Updates. Often on sites I am familiar with, I just click on the search box and start typing only to find nothing entered. Any Fix ?
Thanks
