K8N Master-2 FAR and SATA problems

I have installed W2K Server at my PC with the board.  But whatever I try, I can't get my SATA-drive to show up in Windows.
For the moment I'm booting from an old IBM Deskstar PATA-drive.
I have installed SP4 and reinstalled the nVIDIA RAID/SATA-drivers several times, also including an total reinstall of W2K Server.
Initially I tried with the SATA drive (a WD Raptor 74GB) as bootdisk (non-RAID) but as that doesn't worked I installed at an old 40 GB Deskstar I had.  Therafter I have tried many combinations of: RAID enabled/disabled, RAID-drivers installed/Not installed, original drivers (from the MB-CD:s/diskette) and some downloaded nVIDIA drivers.  No luck.   >:(
The SATA-drive shows up OK in BIOS (at IDE Master 2 if RAID not enabled, not in any IDE definiton if RAID enabled) and shows status "Whealty" in the RAID-config/BIOS menu.
But doesn't show up as any disk in Windows.  The closest I come with the RAID/JBOD setup was an "unknown" device in the IDE-tree in Dev.manager.  When I tried to install the RAID-driver (MB-CD) for that device I get "No driver found" - always.  When I try "Select from list" and select "nForce 4 Serial IDE driver" I get "this package is not compatible with the processortype".
Everything else seems to work, including network/Ethernet/LAN.
Other:
CPU:             1 x Opteron 246
PSU:             Fortron Source Epsilon 600W, Blue Fan, Active PFC, ATX/EPS, SLI, 20/24pin
SATA drive:  WD Raptor 74GB
IDE drive:     IBM Deskstar 40GB
Graphic:        Gainward GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3, PCI-Express
At boot shows: W9620NMS V1.1 061405
No other external peripherals/cards other than Monitor, mouse and keyboard.
TIA
Thomas

I have now succeded to install a driver (although I have other problems now, see below), but the drive still refuses to work in Windows.  The drivers that came with the MB had only these .inf-files: nvatabus.inf and nvraid.inf.  With one of the drivers I downloaded, NForce WHQL 6.86, there was an "nvata.inf" that worked.
I got an ok message from the install routine and rebooted.  Still no cigar.  In dev.manager there was (in the desc box for the nForce SATA controller in "IDE-controllers") a text about that there was not enough information returned from the device/HW for windows (driver ?) to get it to work.  And a suggestion to install another driver or repair the HW.
(Something like that, I cant access the PC now as my PATA/BOOT-disk seems to begin to die as I now constantly get BSOD w. "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED" in ntoskrnl.sys at boot.  Or maybe the corruption is caused by my many tries to install a working driver.)
As I can run Spinrite against the disk (through a selfbooting diskette) it seems that there is no problem with the disk or the  SATA-cable.  (I run a surface analyze through the whole disk whithout any problems.)
I have seen at nforcershq.com's forum that there seems to be many problems with the nForce chipset and drivers for SATA-disks.  Maybe that's what I have.  But there is also many that have working examples with SATA-disks, especially WD-disks.
I'm thinking of buying a SATA controller card and install it in the PC instead, as someone else there did.
But that would be a pity as the SATA-functions was one of the major reasons I bought this MB and also that there is only one PCI-slot and not many PCIe-slots at the MB !   >:(

  • K8N Master 2 Far and 2x Opteron 285 problems...

Hi, hopefully someone has encountered a similar problem or could offer some advice.
I run an older K8N that *does not have the C&Q fix*.  In other words, this board will hard shut off when changing power states in Windows.
I was previously running 2x 256 with no problems.  So this board has worked fine with 2 CPUs.
Using the latest official BIOS (1.43?) I am having some problems getting 2x 285s to run.
POST is fine, then Windows (I am running Vista 32bit) begins to load for about 5 seconds, then I get a hard shut down.  I cannot tell what is causing the shut down.  Strangely, I can enter Windows with all 4 cores no problem under safe mode.
I began to think it was an underpowered PSU, so I started stripping the PC down.  No changes.
So I wonder, are there any known issues with the board and running two dual core CPUs?  BTW, these CPUs are matched and work fine separately.
Thanks very much for any help at all.

I would think so, as I using 270's and C&Q only works with 1.4B2.
Also 1.4B2 is the latest BIOS shown on the MSI pages.
BIOS 1.4B3 simply doesn have the C&Q code as far as I know, nor is it released (last time I checked)
I'm very skeptical because I don't think we are understanding each other.  My board doesn't have the C&Q hardware fix.  I feel as though this is causing the board to shut off.  BTW, I did send my board into MSI for the fix, and they just sent it back with no work done.  Very frustrating.
Anyway, I'll try a flash, but your download section isn't responding.  Can you link the file AWDFLASH?  Also, do I have to rename the BIOS file?  I have to use floppy, I don't have any USB devices anyway.  I have flashed many many times, but only twice on this motherboard.  I was looking at the BIOS section in this forum, but couldn't find the answers.
Is there a simple command line you could share to quickly flash?  Most importantly, do I have to rename the BIOS file?  Thanks.

  • K8N Neo2 Plat IDE and SATA problems

Last night I was able to install XP onto a Raid 0 set up with 2x36 GB Raptors. (These were on Sata3/4 as I had heard about oc problems with the other Sata ports).  No other drives were installed. After installing XP I decided to shut down and add a 40 gb IDE drive that had several things I needed (like programs!) and also installed another Sata drive, this time it was on Sata 2.
(I did discover that the system will not boot if there are drives on IDE2 (optical drives) while IDE1 is empty... so moved the optical drives to IDE1)
After installing the two extra drives I booted up. Fine. But when I went to change a display setting, got BSOD.
So went back and tried again to setup the Raid 0 and install XP. Even without the extra drives, no luck.
After third attempt, I gave up on Raid and just installed XP onto one of the Raptors that was on either Sata 3 or 4. No other HD's installed.  It worked.
Then went back and tried to stick that 40gb IDE in and the 80gb Sata.
Ack! No boot and got a hal.dll error. Googled that and I guess it has some sort of virus or whatever. Figures. Okay. Disconnect both the 40 and 80 and it boots.
This time tried just with the SATA 80 (in addition to boot drives). No luck. Get an error saying that it can't find boot drive or something like that.
Next tried to move the Sata cables around, putting the true boot drive onto Sata1. Of course it didn't work and NOW (after putting the cables back the way they were for the boot drive i.e. Sata3/4 (not sure which) the system will not boot at all giving the "no system disk" error.
If I had hair to pull out it would be gone.
When looking into the BIOS I see that the 2 36gb Rap's are on IDE channel 5 and 6.
I don't know what BIOS I am running.
Is there some sort of "priority" that XP assigns to various IDE channels? Sata ports? At this point I could care less about overclocking, so am thinking of putting the 2 36gb Rap's on Sata 1/2 and starting from scratch trying to install XP on Raid 0 (yes, I installed the Raid drivers from a floppy). Shouldn't that work? I might end up just using the 80 gb SATA drive as the boot drive and not using the Raptors.
    Someone please save me!

Be interested how stable your raid setup stays? See my post https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=94536.new#new
Been driving me crazy. System stays stable, now I've ditched raid, as long as the other Raptor doesn't have XP on it. It seemed that XP was seeing two disks instead of one at close down when I had raid installed and writing to just one - very weird - which blew the array. Never had these problems with Promise Sata Raid.  I suspect, like many others, that NV have a driver problem.
You know... you didn't really HAVE to share this info with me!!
Let's hope it stays stable. If not, then I will get a different Raid controller.
Along with backing up my data on that array as soon as I can!

  • K8N Master-2 FAR and 64 bit Core Center

Has anyone here had any success getting the Core Center to work with XP 64 bit with the 9620 board??  The 32 bit version that ships with the board will not run on 64 bit systems, and the 64 bit version brings up a message that "this application is not compatable with this motherboard" (or something to that effect.)
Is there any utility that can monitor the CPU and board temperatures in XP 64 bit?  I use Photoshop CS2, which tends to push the system rather hard, and it'd be useful to keep track of whether the system is oveheating.  So far I found a third party utility but there's no guarintee that it's reading the sensors correctly.
If both CPU's are staying 35-40 Celcius and the board is around 45, is that unusual?  I've got fans out the wazoo, since this is a production machine and it just has to work.
    Thanks in advance.

  • K8N Master-2 FAR server 2003 x64 load problem

    hi to all
i have K8N Master-2 FAR mobo and opt 250 cpus.i cant load server 2003 x64 os.it says clasical '' did not find any hdd'' i searched in forums and web but i couldnt find any floppy driver for server 2003 x 64 enterprise edt.can someone send me pls if you have?  my e mail is [email protected]
     thanks mert

What type of interface does your HD have? IDE or SATA? My K8T Master-2 did the same thing with XP Pro 64. Turns out that the K8T doesn't support SATA II only SATA I, not sure about the K8N. I had to set the jumper on my WD SATA hd to "Use 150mb transfer only" before the BIOS would recognize it. After I set the jumper, everything went smooth as glass...just wish I could take full advantage of my hd's SATA II potential speed. Hope this helps.

  • K8N MASTER 2 FAR .Loud machine..UPGRADE HEATSINK AND FANS??..HELP?

    Hi All.
    I'm a bit of a newbie in this area..but...
My machine is very loud and im not so sure of the best way to quiet it down.
I was wondering if anyone would/could recommend a good set of replacement heatsinks and fans for my K8N MASTER 2 FAR board.
I am especially trying to find fans that are quieter than the stock ones on the heatsink now.
Also, while we are at it could anyone recommend  good, quiet  case fans?
    Any other suggestions for quietude??
    Thanks..

Just rebuilt my machine after an mobo RMA..
Is there a particular setting called "smartfan"in the Bios?
or is it just a matter of setting the temp range?
    Also..
After the rebuild, I noticed my CPU temps idle, were a bit erratic.
CPU 1 was showing 8C and CPU 2 was showing 45C
    Very strange.
Could this be a heat-paste issue?
    any suggestions?
    Thanks for all your help.

  • K8N MASTER 2-FAR ..silent fans?

    i have the K8N MASTER 2-FAR board with two dual-core opteron 275
the fans are default boxed msi-fans.. they are just unacceptably LOUD..
    does anyone know of a good replacement..i bought the ultra-silent ZALMAN's (9500)
but apparently this MB not only doesnt fit two of those since it's an eATX crammed into an ATX layout (actually, i think you can make them fit if you can live with losing one of your PCIe-slots )
but also, the footings for the fans are completely non-standard so basically you cant use any common 3rd party fans.. (sigh..beginning to wish i'd bought that tyan now)
anyway.. does msi have a line of "better" fans that will actually fit on my MB or does anyone know of a 3rd party that works..
    thanks

    No way, 8x PCI-e is still 4 GB/sec.....
    Your CPU's can't manage that....
    1 PCI-e channel is 500MB/s, so 8 is 4GB/s
Don't foget that your memory is doing tops 6.4GB/s, so it can't even fill 16x, let alone 2 of them
There is no way you can fill 4GB/s at all, too much traffic is going over the bus.
Anyway, that's not the problem at all, the card can't do it, it doesn't even need that much speed to perform.
Do you know what funny, AGP 4x still can't be filled, and 8x is way overboard....
No way you notice anything between PCI-e 8x or 16x
Actually your information is incorrect. And My 6800gt will in fact bench slower at PCIe 8x than it did at 16x. With CPU2 running hot, I switched the SLi switch card around and put the 6800 in the 2nd PCIe slot and it ran at 8x as it should and my 3dmark05 was about 300pts lower on average
    PCIe 16x is 4gb/s
    PCIe 8x is 2gb/s
    PCIe 1x is 250mb/s
Common Buses and their Max Bandwidth
    PCI   132 MB/s
    AGP 8X   2,100 MB/s
    PCI Express 1x   250 MB/s
    PCI Express 2x   500 MB/s
    PCI Express 4x   1000 MB/s
    PCI Express 8x   2000 MB/s
    PCI Express 16x   4000 MB/s
    IDE (ATA100)   100 MB/s
    IDE (ATA133)   133 MB/s
    SATA   150 MB/s
    Gigabit Ethernet   125 MB/s
    IEEE1394B [firewire]   100 MB/s

  • Cooler K8N Master 2-FAR

    Greetings
I am planning to buy an air cooler for my opteron 250.
Wich mounting does the K8N Master 2-FAR uses? Is it a standard socket 940 mounting? Cause i read somewhere that a regular zalman who is compatible with 940 socket doesnt fit on this mainboard.
Does it use an intel mounting?
Maybe you can recommend me an air cooler on this mobo for my cpu
    Plz help me
    Greets
    Geof

It uses an Intel Xeon socket 603 screw mounting.
Other Intel coolers could be compatible, but I don't know the types.
Look a bit further in this forum section, as this issue has been discussed a few times already.
For your info, all MSI S940 boards use this same mounting, so what you see for e.g. a K8T-Master board does also apply to yours when it comes to the cooler mounting.

  • K8N Neo4 Plat, SATA2 and Shutdown Problem...

    Hi, new here.
Glad to have a board like this to ask some questions to other users.
Purchased the board a few months ago, and apart from the      noisy NB fan, all was ok.
Then recently bought a 200GB SATA2 drive (see specs in signature).
Since its installation, but not before, I've had a systematic shutdown and reboot problem: the shutdown proceeds as usual, the "Windows is shutting down" and "Saving preferences" dialogs come and then disapear... but then only the mouse cursor is left on blank screen (it can even be moved), and the shutdown process doesn't go further; after several minutes I just shut it down with the power button.
The event logs don't show anything problematic.
    A few more details:
My drivers are the most recent (official) from MSI.
I've installed Win2000 in ACPI Uniprocessor PC Mode.
The drive is recognized as a sata2 device.
I use the SATA#1 (nVidia) port.
I've put the pagefile on that drive.
Nothing is overclocked, CoreCenter is disabled.
I've installed the UPH Clean tool from Microsoft, but that didn't help.
    Memory passed lengthy memtest session.
Strangely, the SATA2 drive appears in the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" list in the tray, usually reserved for connectable devices (USB, etc): is that normal? (I'm new to sata drives)
I've searched this board for similar problems, but they seemed to be mostly in RAID context, which isn't the case for my system.
Any idea what might be the problem ? Anyone experienced the same problem (non-RAID) ?
Apart from above problem, drive seems to function normally.
    Thanks in advance.

@gerasimatos: maybe he used xsetup? didn't try it yet, will have a look. In the BIOS, all RAID-related settings are disabled.
@kakarocht: the power managment in the BIOS has the default settings.
Will try to change a few params here and there.
I have not tried yet other ports on nVidia controllers.
I may eventually try the Sil ports, in last resorts, BUT I would prefer to solve this issue with nVidia ports first (I think at the price we pay these things we shouldn't be precluded from half the SATA ports!     )
I tried to list as much relevant specs as I could in the signature and post. Here are others:
memory used at 2.5-3-3-7 1T setting (memtest passed)
    regular ps/2 keyboard
    ms intellimouse (using ps/2 connection)
the asus graphic card used in single monitor mode (recent drivers)
when I said "CoreCenter" disabled above, meant "Cool'n'Quiet" disabled (not stressing system yet, so 'cool' isn't an issue; as for quiet, if the board can't lower the NB fan speed, it's a non-issue!!!)
    using on-board sound-card
using onboard gigabit port for internet connection
    no other peripherals installed presently
hard drives temps stay under 40 C (not stressing system lately)
I removed DigiCell and CoreCenter from loading at startup (don't need them for now)
closing firewall (zonelalarm) before shutdown didn't help (although didn't try unloading the service yet)
... what else might be of help to list?...
Again, I'd like to know if it's normal that a SATA2 hd drive appear in the "Unplug and Eject Hardware" tray icon list; I wasn't expecting that, but I'm new to this kind of connection.

  • K8T Neo2 (K8T800 Pro) and SATA problems

I've used Live Update to update my board and SATA controller, but in device manager, I'm informed that the SATA controller cannot start.  During startup, I have no option to configure my two new SATA drives, and there's no evidence that my system detects them whatsoever.
I have a 40GB IDE drive running xp, and right now, I just want to use the two additional  Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB drives for extra storage.
Can anyone help me with this?

limit your SATAII HDD to SATA1 mode, via jumper.
use drivers from MSI web: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=608&kind=1

  • K8N nForce 4 (CK804) and SATA drive problems

    Hi,
I have a K8N Neo MB with a 4 port sata and RAID. It seems that it is not stable with sata drives at all.
I had at first 2 120G SEAGATE drives. I kept getting random hangups from windows AND linux. I thought it was a problem with one of the drives to I booted with one of them at a time and worked a bit... it seemed the problem went away.
but later, after a week or so, it seems everything comes back again. same problems with freezes and hangups.
when windows for example freezes, and i press reset. at the boot screen, the POST would hang up at the step which detects the SATA drives. it would stay like this foreever.
I would have to totally shut down power for a few seconds and boot again.
I tried working with pata drives and its totally great and stable. no problems. if i install a sata drive with the pata, i get the same hangup problems.
i bought another seagate 80gb sata drive just to make sure that the older 120gb were not a problem. it worked for me fine a t first, but started to do exactly the same afterwards
i tried to access the drive from linux in order to trace the access pattern of the drive and get a sense of what was going wrong. Here is the syslog from the kernel messages.
any help with that issue is highly appreciated. thanks

the answer for this problem is very simple.. I was having EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM as you... I changed 3 hds sata 200gb because I wasnt finding out the cause... so I found this link:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/service/faq/faq/esc_faq_answer.php?L_kind=1&Q_LIST=1141&NA=637
The problem is the NCQ technology... just disabled it and everything will be fine... i did this here and now is everything PERFECT! lol

  • K8N Neo2 + Maxtor DiamondMax 10 (SATA) problems!

    hello.
i wanted to know, if anyone knows a working solution for the problem that the nforce3 chipset / nvidia sata controller / mobo bios or just (some?) k8n neo2 mobos causes the system to freeze while booting when a maxtor diamondmax 10 is installed?
for anyone who still has problems: a temporary solution for 1-drive-users is to plug the drive to the sata4 port (right between the agp and the cpu socket), instead of plugging it to sata1, which would be the correct procedure under ordinary circumstances though.
i found out that my own system was highly unstable as long as i connected the drive to one of the first two sata ports. the other ones worked better. is the problem limited to sata 1/2 on everyone's board? if not, it would be RMA-able.
but there is another thing besides the instability of these expensive pieces of trash (sorry, no other hard drive and mobo has given me a harder time yet!) that bothers me more:
why is my maxtor diamondmax 10 6b300s0 so noisy? on idle it runs very smooth and is quiet, but under heavy load it almost roars as loud as my old u2w-scsi drives i had back in 1995. could it be that windows or the sata controller does not turn on the cache?
i hope, somebody can share his experience.
    wan-hi

I've got the neo2 and 2 Diamondmax 10 Maxtors in RAID1. I've had loads of trouble as well... Today is my first day without a freeze and hard reboot needed. I started building (slowly mind you) about 3 weeks ago.
If this is actually stable now, perhaps you can try a similar setup. All these steps had frequent hangs and re-attempts.. I got through in the end tho. (Doesn't instill confidence that you have a stable build tho!!)
I have the 2 drives on SATA 3,4
All SATA BIOS settings are enabled (inc port 1,2 settings)
I used the 2 RAID drivers on the supplied floppy disk (same revisions as on the website currently)
I installed WinXP with service Pack 1 built in (is that what people mean when they say a streamlined XP install?)
After updating all the motherboard drivers etc, I installed Service Pack 2. With SP2 I had frequent unrepeatable hangs, but cpu burn type programs and games wouldn't trigger it.
Only office type work/browsing seemed to kill it.
I switched to a USB mouse from PS2, and that seemed to help.
Last thing I tried was uninstalling SP2 and it's lasted all day now. Longest strtech previously was 3,4 hours of intermittent use.
I agree with you about the noisy Maxtors though.. I had a Seagate Barracuda before and that was really silent. These don't whine at all but clatter when seeking.
Apparently with the Diamondmax 9's you could use a Maxtor utility to quieten (slow) the seeks, and a IBM/Hitachi util also worked.
I can't get either to work cos the 10's are SATA only drives. Maxtor util only works with IDE (or perhaps SATA non RAID), and IBM just fails to see them.. shame. I think the Maxtor util might work with some other, older SATA controllers... have to track someone down with a compatible setup who doesn't mind me carving up their machine. Actually haven't tried adjusting when the drives aren't RAIDed.. hmmm.

  • K8N Master 2 Far & Radeon 5770

    Chaps,
I am trying to install a Radeon 5770 in this motherboard, I cannot get the motherboard to POST with the card installed. It seems from a few threads on the AMD forums that there is a compatibility issue with nForce4 (amongst others) and Radeon 5770 which may or may not be related to PCIE v1.0 vs PCIE V2.1, and/or 1GB memory on the card vs 512MB.
I am running the 1.42 BIOS which I have updated by installing the latest (5.60 or 6.60) nVidia RAID BIOS, by removing and re-inserting the correct chunk. nVidia RAID has worked flawlessly for me now for over a year. My Silicon IMage SATA card  runs a non-raid base bios
I am using the RAID drive as the primary with WIndows 7 Professional 64bit and my system is perfectly stable. I keep it on for weeks hibernating it at night and almost only reboot after driver updates.
My previous card was a HD 4830 512MB which works fine.
Rest of system is 2x Opteron 248, Asektek Water Chill, Creative XFi Fatality, Sil3132 SATA 2 port addon card, Pioneer Blu-ray Reader, DVD writer, 2GB Kingston DDR800 registered memory, 4 x 320GB SATA drives in RAID.
    PSU is a TAGAN 580-U12, a modular PSU supplying either 12V1 20A, 12V2 20A or 12V 35A.
I have tried all the PSU possibilities
    1) Combined rails
    2) Moving PCIe about
    3) Connecting VGA 4 pin on motherboard (JPOWER_3)
    4) Detaching all drives, and cards other than the graphics card.
and no it still won't boot.
I have verified benchmarks for Power showing that the total system draw for a 4830 and a 5770 system is about the same +/- 10W at idle and load, so at the least removing all the drives and cards should have added 60w to the system.
Looking around the net there was a simlar problem here and a new beta BIOS issued. Does anybody  know, can they find out what changed and whether I can do something similar.

I appreciate its an old board but it still runs fine, and I don't have the money to go Quad Core/4GB at the moment.
    Cheers
    Rajiv

    Well I can confirm that
    a) My 5770 works
    b) It has a fairly late (11/19) GPU BIOS and I can't find a later one
    c) It has a windows experience index of 7.4! (cries in tea)
    d) It will run fine from a 380W PSU (Seasonic S12), in fact this PSU is so old it does not have a PCIe connector (6 pin) so I had to dig out the 4 pin molex to 6 pin PCIE from the 4830 board.
    so power wise
    E5200, G31, 2 sticks DDR2 800, 2 SATA II 7200rpm, 2 PCI Cards (Tuners), 1 HD 5770  from 2 x 17A  Rails (Max 324W = 27A) works
    2 x Opteron 248, nForce 4 Professional,  2 sticks Registered ECC DDR2 800, 1 HD 5770 from a 1 x 35A (420W) does not work
Moreover, the 380W PSU has been on for about 2 years in the HTPC, whereas my Opteron system is only on when I'm in the office so lets say 4 hours a day on a nomal 248 working days a year for 2 years. This would imply the 580 has aged less.
While I cannot truly compare apples with apples, its not the PSU at fault here, but as said in other threads there seems to be some Init problem on the motherboard.
I am also not going to say that the 5770 running at full blast will provide a stable experience off the 380W supply, merely that it boots and runs Windows 7 Aero and MCE without any stress or excessive current. I have not qualification tested the set up with a GPU stress test  and probably would not do so.
Unfortunately I cannot try inserting the nForce 4 motherboards second PCIe x16 slot as physically, my watercooling tubes exit the case where the connectors would sit to reach the external radiator, so it would mean a full drain and refill. I'd contemplate that if there was some common trend, but it seems too early yet, after all this thread appears in the first page on google already so there's not much help so far.
I am afraid I am out of things to try! I am also reluctant to upgrade just for the sake of HD 5770 my Opteron system is actually pretty decent although I would like to go to 4GB and quad core.
    Cheers

  • P965 platinum ide and sata problems

in bios om my mb it says that i have ide not sata >:(.
and i cannot see my cd-rom as an ide.
i have tried to update bios but it didnt work i tried liveupdate and usb stick.
when i set my mb to ahci function on my sata config, windows dosent find the disk in the os installation. and my computer cannot load windows.
in windows something is wrong with the cd-rom when i use it my computer is going slowly.
i think this problem is caused by the jbmicron software.
anybody who can help me with this problem??
    Specs:
    Msi p965 platinum
    c2d e6600
    corsair twin2x 2048mb ram
    xfx geforce 7900gt
    wd raptor 10000rpm 74gb
    seagate 160gb sata2
    thermaltake pure power 460w

Would much appreciate some help if anyone is familiar with this issue!
I'm having a very difficult time getting the the 965 Platinum to recognize my IDE devices, and I don't know why. I've got a Sony DRU-500A DVD burner in the master position, and a Maxtor 6L300R0 hard drive in the slave position. The jumpers on those devices are appropriate for their position. The devices are "usuable", that is, I've been able to run the Windows XP installer (up to a point) and writes have occured to my hard drive, but the installation fails after the portion where you reboot after all the files have been written from the install disk.
In any case, the Standard CMOS screen simply never shows any devices detected on either the IDE Primary Master or Slave entries. I've tried disconnecting the DVD drive and just connecting the Hard Drive as master instead with no improvment. I've also tried disabling the SATA configurations, toggling PCI IDE Busmastering. Nothing works.
I've never been able to boot into Windows.
There was a point where the JMicron Raid menu showed this drive as a raid drive for reasons that aren't clear to me (the drive may have been a raid drive in the past). I've set the drive back to non-raid, rebooted back into my old system and everything checks out. No problems at all, so I think that there are any RAID issues.
I'm not a pro at building systems, so there could be user error anywhere alonog the way.
    Any ideas? I'm bamboozled!
