while the bios show ram runnign at 204 mhz.
who to believe. hevent tried memtest but been tryign 3dmark05 continously.
now my question is as follows i have a frnd who has overclocked a 2800 clawhammer upto 2400mhz stable on a asus k8v-x mobo i was amazed to see the options in the bios for that mobo. its a el cheapo board widout pci agp locks and yet i spent a lot more on this mobo just becuz i thought the pci/agp locks wud come in handy for overclockign seems i cant even exceed past 245. the ram being used in his pc is also the same as mine i can confirm him running at 166mhz, and prolly if i saw correctly there was some bus he was running on 600mhz.
rite now i wanna know wat r the best settings which wud get me a good overclock widout sacrificing performance which i thinkw ud be common after lowering memroy timings and crap.
last question what to spend on
512mb stick of ram that cud allow me to overclock or simple cooling which cud let me go far.
at 4x htt the after saving settings at bios the system wudnt go into bios back wen it tried to restart after around 5 mins i cud restart the system.
im bout to install the 1.7v bios
or maybe try the 1.52 beta dont know where to find it though.
here r some reviews by some forum
MSI K8N Neo Platinum [AGP/PCI Lock, FID 4x-Max, HTT Adjust, VCore, VDimm, LDT; Tested with Athlon 64 Mobile 1.4v] The board has some SERIOUS quality issues (there are too many problems to list but users are seeing everything from stability issues at stock, inability to get voltage to stay above 1.45v, only parttime working RAM divisors, flakey AGP/PCI locks, to multiplier and voltage settings that won't 'stick') Unfortunately, this is nothing new with MSI boards. What that means is that you may get a board that works fine but it is *much* more likely that you will get a board that is a big POS which will cause you to waste endless hours pulling out your hair trying (and failing) to get the board to work correctly. Until further notice, this motherboard is NOT a good choice to use with mobiles (or any other CPU for that matter.) The motherboard will boot with the shipping BIOS but the CPU will lock down to a 4x multiplier (800Mhz) To correct this one needs to update to the BETA bios 1.52 Please take note that the backplate is *glued* on, which means it's tough to get off and you need to get it off. Using acetone or heating the adhesive up with a hairdryer should allow the backplate to be easily removed. Be careful and don't use sharp objects as they may damage the board.
seems like i made the wrongest of choices for my new system, my first mistake 5 yrs ago was to buy a ca810e mobo intel. my second mistake for my second system was this after 5 yrs seems like i ahvent learned to make a decent system.
ADVICES ADVICES ADVICES. am i running the hypertransport too slow rite now.? ny views anything wud be appreciated...

  • The Official MSI K8N Neo Platinum Overclocking Results Thread...

OK people we need a thread where we can all show what kind of overclocks we are getting at the moment with our A64 boards, both for our interest as a resource, and anyone who happens to want to know what the boards can do with different hardware configs.
Just post your system specs (CPU, RAM, MOBO, COOLING etc etc) highest overclocks, and as much relevant information as possible, like settings you think made a difference.  If you reach a higher overclock that you originally posted, simply edit your post to reflect that.
DO NOT JUNK THE THREAD WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR HARDWARE PROBLEMS, KEEP IT SWEET AND SIMPLE AND PLEASE PM EACHOTHER IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS !!!!
Mine will be updated next week when I collect my MSI Neo Platnum, 3400+ "CG" stepping and i'm also ordering some OCZ PC3500 EB and some AData Vitesta PC4000 to play around with and hopefully hit those uber-FSB's. :D

This board is hard to figure out.
    Clawhammer 3200+ CG 1MB rev 1.2 beta 5 bios
Max tested stable overclock with corsair 3200ll rev 1.2 is 220fsb 1:1 HTT divider doesn't work with this memory. HTT divider is very unstable if it works at all.
Max (still testing) with corsair 2x512mb 4400 Mem at 166:200 240HTTx4 mem at stock volts, cpu 1.6v. I just got this far this morning. Priming now as I type. Failed prime95 at 1.55v.
2xwd 36gb raptors raid 0 won't work on SATA 3,4 only 1,2. Instant bluescreen if using ports 3,4. HTT seems to max at 240 and I've tried every multiplier and 3x 2x HTT. I think I've got the 3,4 HTT limitiation and 1,2 doesn't work with my drives
I must admit up until about 2 hours ago I was very disappointed in my new platform but now the system is faster than my barton at 2500mhz with some headroom to go. It's starting to look good if i can get some of these bugs fixed in a new bios.

  • How does a MSI K8n neo fx overclock

Hi. i am thinking of bying this board. but before i buy i would like to know how it overclocks  :D
I would like to know what cpu u used, wich speeds and temps :D
    Best regards :D

    My Neo2 does pretty well...
    3000+ (winchester - 1.8Ghz stock) @ 9x275 = 2.475Ghz, 52C max temp on 1.45v.
Rest of the stuff you can see in my sig.

  • S3 mode doesn't work fine on K8N Neo-fsr since overclocking, please help!

    I have a K8N Neo-FSR (MS-7030) BIOS version 1.6 (I tried 1.4, 1.5), running AMD64 2800+ SK 754, 2x 256MB DDR400 Kingston valueram pluging in slot 1&2. It runs well except S3 mode    .
Since I overclock HTT (everythings else have their own default values), S3 mode seems to work so crazy . After wake up from this usefull stop-grant standby mode, HTT is given back to its original speed, 200MHz, without notice (?!)  .
You know that I don;t like this much, do you?
Who responsible for this function? Mainboard or CPU? If it's mainboard, which department will be sentenced, BIOS or chipsets/ICs?
Could anybody give me a solution to achive higher speed by overclocking without giving up using S3?
    Thanks so much!

It's a bad new! I had bad feeling about DFI with the same problem, S3 mode resuming bring FSB back to df and even sometimes led the system to the ruin. But upgrading bios solved this issue. My old Abit did S3 mode fine. Now I have a new MSI and once again I must use teknophyle's way or slow hibernation instead.
On the same occasion, I wana ask about some shortcoming in 1.6 bios: power on by keyboard/mouse and power led options. I only found S3 wake up by keyboard/mouse but not keyboard/mouse power-on options! There is power led option in version 1.56 but it disapeared in 1.6. Now my mobo has no signal to differentiate between sleep and power-off. would you give back the useful power led option and add power on by combination keys in the near future bios version, syar? Look forward to hearing some good new from you :D.

  • Overclocking of MSI K8N neo platinium

MSI K8N neo platinium, Bios 1.4
    Athlon64 3200+ 2000Mhz (200Mhz x10) 1MB cache, Clawhammer.
    Geil 2x512MB DDR PC3200 400MHz Value CL2,5 5ns Aluminium Heat
    Club3D 9800pro@xt
    Hitachi Deskstar 7K250-160 160Gb 7200rpm 8Mb cache S-ATA
    400w psu
Before when I had just one memory chip(512mb in slot 1), I had no problem to run 235Mhz x10. All I had to do was the following :
    Put hdd in SATA 4
    Set AGP to 68Mhz
    Adjust cpu voltage from 1.45 - 1.55v
Set mem. clock to 166Mhz (sense it will increase as you raise the FSB)
Now I`ve bought one more identic memory chip. I have now 2x512MB memory placed in slot 1 and 3.
I followed the same steps as above, but with terrible results. Max 215Mhz x10 stable.
I`m pretty sure it`s not the memory chips that`s the problem, as they run stable
with original settings ( witch is higher speeds (200Mhz) than those I run on the memory when overclocking (166 - 195Mhz).
I would be greatfull for any tips or solutions that you might think would help me (and others) to reach better o/c results.

try slots 1+2 instead of 3, i have found that i can't oc very well in 1+3 either.

  • K8N Neo and SATA overclocking issues?

I'm thinking of getting some SATA Adapters for my PATA drives to help improve airflow in my K8N Neo Platinum.
I do have a few questions though.
I've been reading some threads about various issues regarding SATA like corruption of data when overclocking FSB.
I'm currently running 245 FSB 1:1 with the 1.42b2 BIOS.
First of all, will the SATA adpaters slow down my drives?
Will I experience any corruption or any other issues with using SATA (and adapters) with my drives?
    Thx for sharing.

Don't bother doing what you are thinking...
as for SATA, it has the ability to be faster than IDE, but because of the drivers it doesn't have a speed advantage so much right now.  The only SATA drives I would get would be raptors, which I have one...otherwise I would go IDE

  • K8N Neo FSR Bios overclocking functions help needed

Hi all, I am a small pc builder for the family and i have found some problems with the bios of my uncles K8N neo FSR which I recommended for him. Basically it wouldn't seem to overclock with the 'Dynamic Overclocking' function on bios v1.7 but did manually by adjusting FSB incrementally (ie from 200 to 205 Mhz). When I questioned this before someone had mentioned that it could be ok to run like this. However I have since updated the bios to v1.9 and even v2.1 as they became available but now neither seem to overclock manually nor using 'Dynamic overclocking'
Firstly though, can someone clear up my first conception; To test if the Dynamic Overclocking function is working can I set it to a higher setting (ie.'Commander'), save and exit bios (restarting) ---> go straight back into bios ----> go straight back into Cell Menu and check 'Current frequency of cpu' has changed?
I only ask this as if this is the case then my Dynamic Overclocking function hasn't worked with three bios' and I wont bother with anything until I RMA the board lol, as I have never been able to change the frequency of my cpu at boot/bios stage with the dynamic overclocking function.
    Can anyone help me?

Hi Stu, yesterday I think i found out what u mean lol. I studied a 'Sticky' ? about overclocking A64s and found some interesting stuff. Apparently overclocking the HTT is dangerous, and A64s are always at least half locked. Now with this in mind Ive been wondering if there are interlocks built into my mainboard stopping me from using the 'CPU Overclock' function to overclock my pc manually from the set 200Mhz while my HTT is still set at 4x. -I say this as the HTT on my system is 800Mhz for a socket754 Sempron 3000Bx, thus overclocking this would increase my HTT above the 800Mhz threashold (I think) lol. All sounds complex but I think Ive figured it out as Im following instructions from the sticky to lower my HTT multiplier before increasing my cpu overclock. Its hard as my mainboard has Nforce3 chipset which has different ways of overclocking to every other board lol. So far I have managed to increase the overclock, but only when the HTT multiplier is lowered to 3x. I have also lowered my cpu multiplier though, and thus am trying to figure out where my 1810Mhz clock speed has changed to 1630 lol. Will try again now. I want to raise the clock speed above 1810, keeping the HTT lower than 800 and leaving the memory alone at 400DDR lol. Im hoping the memory is seperate as it seems to be on this chipset.

  • Overclocking msi k8n neo plat

trying to overclock my msi k8n neo plat and run mad 2001
    hardware - amd 64 3400
    bfg 6800gt
    corsair pc3200
i go into bios and set ram at 400mhz, set agp at 67 mhz. then open center and enter 210 mhz fsb. when i start madonion, it freezes. is it my memory?

Could be a ram incompatibility issue.  I have some OCZ pc3500 EL which is great in my other systems, but doesn't work in the Neo without bluescreens and crashes to desktop.  It might also be a power related issue.  What type of power supply are you using and what is the amperage on the 12v rail?  That seems to be pretty important for this board.

Overclocking Problems on K8N Neo Plat

As I had said that even when HTT is set 200 and memory divider used is 1:1 on my Corsair XMS (which was plugged in in my nF4 SLi mobo and has TCCD Ram chips) which is rated 2-2-2-5 at 200Mhz DDR and processor at stock speeds and voltage, memtest shows errors and system doesn't boots in windows.
Also my Ram sticks are rated 2.60V but when Vdimm set at auto Motherboard pumps 2.70V !! what's the problem , I use version 1.7 BIOS on my MSI K8N Neo Platinum
Is that going to harm my RAM

  • Have you sucessfully overclocked you K8N Neo FSR? Plz post details.

    Hi guys !
Im still stuck with my system that does NOT want to be overclocked so I wanted to know if I'm the only one or not ?
If you have managed to overclocked you system using K8N Neo FSR please post you details.
And I'm also looking for tips on how to bypass issues related to unsucessful overclocking.
    Thank You.
I've managed to do this so far...
    A64 3200+ NewCastle CG-stepping @ 210x11 vCore 1.55
    Corsair Value Select DDR 400 @ 3-3-3-8-2T VDimm 2.70
    using official BIOS version 1.4
    But that's it...
If I increase vDimm above 2.75 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login
If I increase FSB above 210 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login
    If I set FSB 230x10 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login
If I set timings to higher values e.g. 3-5-5-10 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login

    Gen,
I found a few interesting things last night.  1st, I was having a problem with my CPU and Northbridge fans throttling down to about 1/3 speed after a few minutes of use.  I disabled the Northbridge and CPU target fan settings in BIOS.  You can find these options in the System Health menu of your BIOS.  Also, if you have enabled the "Optimized" option in your BIOS, please disable it and set to "manual".  The only option I've found to help is to select "Aggessive" timings for your memory.  It doesn't change your speed in the BIOS for some reason, but it does do something else because my memory bandwidth is about 60 more with this setting enabled instead of disabled (3430 Int / 3430 Float in Sandra 04 versus 3493 / 3496 with the setting enabled.  OF ALL THINGS MAKE SURE TO DISABLE THE "OPTIMIZED" function and leave it set at manual.  Also, shoot me your current memory timings one more time.  Are you using BIOS rev. 1.4?  Let me know.  Sorry it takes so long between posts, but I check from both work and home and it's usually several hours between getting chances to check for updated posts.  I didn't have to reduce the HT setting on my overclock (I'm still running 4X), but I've read several posts where a setting of 3X will help if you're having problems o/cing.  Also, on your memory timings make sure and set your DRAM to FSB ratio at Auto.  This allows the memory to sync with your FSB speed.  And, I don't remember if I mentioned it before, but be sure to set your AGP speed to 67 (66 is the default).  At a setting at 67 it will positively lock your PCI and AGP clocks to 67 and 33 respectively, making sure that you aren't overstressing any of your PCI devices or you video card.
