K8N Neo 2 Platinum Problem!When rising to 210fsb restarting,etc...

I have a big problem which makes me angry...Actually there exist some problems, but I only write two of them...Firstly,when i try to overclock as rising fsb to only 210, system restarts and resarts again and again;only when I return to default value, system works. It is just a one example to show us that mobo does not work well.Secondly, about the temperature, there is a problem.System sometimes opens with 37degree,sometimes with 43 degree;sometimes rises to 55 and 62,sometimes stops at 47-48.These are not only from idle temperature but also load.Which makes me angry, temperature is 55 degree at idle;and sometimes at load it is 49 etc..I tried my CPU and fan,ram modules etc.,on MSI Neo 4 SLI mobo, and there didnot happen any problem, involving these two. So,I think they are not normal, what should I do?
My system:AMD 64 939 3200+ CPU,MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum,MSI NX6800 VGA,2*512 ddr400 Hynix d43 ram,80GB Seagate SATA etc...

I did it;that is to say i know that i have to lower HT and i did.In detail, ram timings were 3-4-4-6 and 1T.I disabled D.O.T,Spread spectrum,Agrassive timings, high performance mode was manuel  etc..So everything was suitable for o\c.Also I disabled Sata1-2,and connected to Sata 3 port.AGP frequency was 67,cool and quiet was disabled.HT was 4,I adjusted CPU ratio to *10 and I rised CPU frequency only to 210.So,everything was as which had to be,but system restarting again and again, works only if i return to 200 fsb...I am sure that the problem is arisng from mobo, because I tested my configuration on different systems. For example,I tried my CPU and ram modules on MSI K8N Neo 4 SLI mobo and there did not happen any problem,I was able to rich 2500mhz with HT4,250fsb*10.Temperature was accurate also. What can I do?If
I cannot o\c my system it is unsense to have this configuration and this mobo.I think,if i bring my mobo to service of MSI,they will say it is not our problem,as you know they don't accept o\c problems.I also think that they have to explain something to me as their D.O.T. technology supposed to work at %11 o\c.Please,someone say something to me and give me an advice.

There is some timing requirements that may not be fulfilled during the motherboard start .
Fans will always start turning , but the motherboard and cpu wont start up if the timing sequences and housekeeping control of ps_on , pwr_ok is on track
    withing the defined times .
So yes a "bad" psu can cause this . And it's the motherboard thats turn off baecause it hasn't got
a high pwr_ok that holds up.
I see,, so i guess i'm gonna replace the power supply...
    which one do u recommend?

I just recently started buying parts, about a week ago, to upgrade my old AMD Athlon 2000+. Got all the new parts(listed above). Ive been having all sorts of problems. Ill list them to see what you guys think
1.) Whenever i start playing games or a graphicly intense program(ex: video editing, or 3D programs) or if i play a game and i do any sort of loading(ex: zoning, changing levels, loading player models etc.). My game either crashes to the desktop without errors, or my system will crash and drop to a bluescreen with the stop error "STOP: 0x0000007E". Or ill get a different blue screen saying "Dumping physical memory" or something can't read it cause it just appears then reboots my computer right away.
Or just recently i crashed to my desktop but got an error box saying "There are stability problems with the Geforce FX 5700LE please check if you have the correct drivers etc."
Then just the other night i was playing a game and crashed to the desktop but got a virtual memory error saying "Ran out of Virtural memory etc etc. Please check your Virtual memory page file". So i did and increased it a bit cause i saw it was set lower than the actual amount of ram i have.
I guess it's just 1 big problem but im just so confused about it. Been trying to troubleshoot it for about a week and about to give up. This monday is my last day to return things back to the store, would rather not cause ive heard such great things about AMD 64's and the Neo Platinum board.
Hope you guys got some ideas Im just about out of them heh.
    Thanks.

Don't know if you have tried this things but heres my list of things .
    BIOS:
-First load bios optimized defaults , then ..
-Set the cpu vcore voltage up by + 0.025v (don't use auto)
-Increase the memory voltage vdimm to 2.7v (or the vendors max defined voltage)
    -Disable fsb spread spectrum
    -Disable dynamic overclocking
    -Disable cool n quiet
-Change the multiplier from startup to 11
-Turn off auto on memory timings in cell menu/dram and set all values manually
and the max mem frequency to 200.
    -Turn off AGP fatwrites
    CASE:
    USB connectors
-Disconnect case front usb from usb header on motherboard.
-Disconnect the d-bracket from usb header on motherboard.
-Change the red MSI ide cable if used.
-Check all stand offs/spacers under the motherboard .
-If using PS2 kb and mouse some board have mislabeled color code
making people connect mouse in kb and vice versa .
Correct is keyboard in the bottom mouse top.

  • Strange K8N Neo Platinum Problem

I just got my new system:
    MSI K8N Neo Plat
    A64 3000+
    512 MB Kingston HyperX (PC3500)
Installed windows and thought everything was fine until I got random BSOD (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT).  I narrowed the problem down to the memory so I used Memtest86 3.1 and found that the ram was faulty at Test#5 at all ram frequencies from 200MHz and up.  Worked fine when I used the dividers as long as it is below the 200MHz mark.  So I went back to the retailer to have them test the ram but it was fine on their system.  Ended up getting 1 stick of Corsair XMS PC3200 thinking it was incompatibility.  But again got the same problem.
Anyone have any clue as to what's going on?  Could it be the CPU or the motherboard that's causing the problems?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply.
Ok, I've tried all sockets and they all do the same thing.
I've slowed down the memory timings to the worst possible and same thing.
I've bumped the voltage up to 2.7 and still no luck.
I've already RMA the HyperX and the replacement stick didn't work either and of course the Corsair that I currently have now does the same thing.
    No Kingmax where I am.
I'm currently running at 235FSB with the 5/6 divider giving 195MHz.  Sucks that I can't run 1:1 at all, not even default.

  • Kingmax Hardcore 4000 on MSI K8N Neo Platinum Problem

I am currently running a A64 3000+ on this board with 512MB of Kingmax Hardcore PC4000. When I have the stick in the first ram slot it will error out in memtest, but if I place it in ram slot 2 or 3 it works perfectly and passes memtest. I've seen other people running this ram on this board and I am wondering if my board is bad or if this is just some weird ram incomptability. I wouldn't mind this so much if I was just going to have the one stick but I am eventually going to get another stick of this and go up to 1GB. Any comments would be nice.

Some sticks were tested and passed by MSI to run in certain DIMM slots. I just got back from MSI's Test Report section for the K8N Neo2 socket 939 board, and in the memory section - they have a list of all kinds of memory that worked, and which slots it worked and passed in....you might want to check it out for your mobo!!!

  • K8N Neo Platinum problems (Front USB connection)

They does not work in my Antec Lanboy case. Does anybody have a clue why?

Check to see if there is a wire running from your Front USB ports to the #10 slot of your USB block which connects to the motherboard header.
    USB connector block
    1 3 5 7 9(filled/key)
    2 4 6 8 10(this wire, #10, not needed)
If you find a wire leading to the #10 spot on the block, remove that wire. My block has tabs so that you can pull the wire out, or you could snip/cut the wire leading to that position--if you cut the wire, be careful to cut the correct one and cut it in such a way that it may be repaired if you make a mistake.  Make sure you wrap the wire, the exposed end/s, you remove/cut with electrical tape so as not to accidentally cause a short. I actually folded the wire back and wrapped it.
2 posts to read--Here and Here.
This seems to be a common issue involving many different case manufacturers. I don't know how it applies to other MOBO manufacturers, but in these forums it is not limited to a specific MSI model or supported chipset(Intel or AMD).

  • MSI K8n Neo Platinum

    Hi Guys,
I am having a problem with my computer at the moment. I am having trouble getting into the BIOS of this motherboard (MSI K8N Neo Platinum). When I try to get into BIOS, it goes into a black screen with a little line on top of it and its blinking. This has never happened before. Then when I shut off my computer since I couldn't get into the bios, I turned it back on and it goes on but nothing goes to screen or it wont boot up to startup screen. Then I turn it off, I reset the BIOS and turn it back on. Now it boots up to the startup screen, but when it says press del to get into bios, I pressed that and it happens again, it will not get into bios. When I do this over again by resetting the bios, this time without getting into BIOS, it goes on and boots up to Windows XP. I want to reformat my hard drive with a fresh copy of XP Pro, but I can't get into BIOS to do that. Can someone help me?

Same thing happened to me today. Thanks MSI for publishing a Betaversion of a BIOSupgrade on the Live update..
At first I figured that there must have been some fault during the BIOSflash so I downloaded the file again and repeated procedure. This time it worked like a charm and I could do all my BIOS-settings. The next restart the problem was back again though, and this time I had swapped the order for my SATA-drives to boot (to the way they should) but the system couldn't boot. So I couldn't enter neither the bios or Windows. Luckily you can shift the primary boot device by pressing F11 though, so I got out of the libido...
Now I've downloaded the old 1.9 Version instead and I sure as h*** won't do any more beta-testing for MSI by using the Live Update anymore!

  • K8N Neo Platinum AGP failure

    Hi,
I just got my K8N Neo Platinum and when I tried to boot up the system the
system speaker makes one long and two short beeps and nothing else happens...
Tried with several AGP graphics cards, and when I tried with and old PCI graphics card
it worked fine... Updated the BIOS to version 1.5 and that did no difference...
It's not the PSU cause I have an Antec Truepower 550W and that should be enough...
And it boots fine with the PCI vga so I dont think that it's the TwinMOS RAM either....
    Anyway my system contains of:
    Amd Athlon 64 3400+
    1Gb TwinMos 400MHz DDR
    2x200GB Seagate Barracuda Sata drives
    Geforce FX5800
Anyone who have any idea of what to do, checked the MSI site for that beep signal but it didnt
have any information on what to do to solve the problem...
Would be very thankful for any ideas on the problem....
    // Klejs from Sweden...

It is unlikely that it is your power supply. That Antec has enough juice to power up the system. Try disconnecting both Sata drives and anything else that may be connected other than the mouse and the video. See if it will then get to the post screen. If not, take out one stick of ram and try with one stick. You might also try clearing cmos as your bios may have to be cleared. Sometimes getting things down to the minimum components on the system and clearing cmos will get it going. If you read through about a thousand posts on various forums you will find people who have had similiar problems. Many have been resolved through swapping memory or switching the ports that they use for sata. This is usually a compatability issue. It is very likely that none of your components are defective in any way. AMD 64 and the corresponding motherboards are just real picky about what they like.

I installed everything and all seemed to work okey,  until i threw in the XP install cd and began my install..
in the dos install of windows xp, (when it moves files to the hdd) it stopped and said that there was a problem with a file that were to be copied, i pressed enter to try again and  the install moves on,  this accurs 4-5 times and then it gives me a BIG  "IRQL less or not equal".. Blue screen of death.. (it complains on different files each time i try to install xp, tried 15-20 times)
I have tried to change memory to another Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512 512Mb DDR PC3200 400MHz 184pin Unbuffered CL3 with no luck,
changed hdd, change gfx-card. change psu,  removed all no-need pci-cards..
but still same error, i aint no expert so i might have missed something in bios or something :(
please help me if you can..

Flashing bios with memory errors is a veeeeery bad idea .
Almost guarantied to ruin your bios chip with bad data block.
That this even is suggested with mem errors , well .
You need to resolve the mem errors before doing anything else.
The windows xp install routine is a very heavy user of cpu and memory
and will fail if you have mem errors like you have.
Some things to try is entering bios and change auto settings on cpu voltage
giving it 0.5v more than default .
Set the memorys voltage to vendors max approved voltage
    which for yours is 2.6v +/- 0.1v . So it's safe to set at 2.7v .
    Set timings to cas 3 ,ras 3 ,trp 3 , tras 8 , CMD 2T.
Pushing it firmly down in the dimm socket , sometimes it's not all the way down there even if the plastic lockers snap in.
Disconnect all devices not needed for a windows install ,things can be added later.
Have only the hd that os is to be installed to , one cdrom , floppy , memory and
    gfx card .
Disconnect USB case front connector (cause corruption and strange faults if
    USBOC pin is connected)

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum & Crucial Ballistix 512MB RAM Problem

I have had MSI K8N Neo Platinum and 1x Crucial Ballistix 512MB RAM for 11 months.
I have had 1x Crucial Ballistix 512MB RAM for 2.5 months, for a total of two.
    I have had MSI GeForce 6600GT (NX6600GT-VTD) 128MB AGP for 1 month.
For about 1.5 to 2 weeks, I have been seeing random crashes while playing PC games.
I started a thread on the Hard OCP forums a few days ago.  I did not know MSI had forums =)
Rather than re-typing, I may as well just post the link:
    http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=934956
My issue is also similar to this one:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=83799.0
    Thanks for the help.

ALL RIGHT, after almost    FOUR    months my issue is FINALLY    resolved.
It is amazing how much time passes when you are hesitant to buy parts unless you are 95% sure it will fix the problem.
OK, here is an update as to what I remember.
I went to BIOS 1.4 and tried many different physical and BIOS RAM configurations (Different seating, different number of DIMMs, different RAM timings, voltages, etc).
I concluded that I could not make my PC 100% stable, but I could get it darn close.  With certain settings, such as DDR400, 2-2-2-6, 1T, 2.80V, Aggressive Timing enabled, Memtest failed test #5 every time (this is spec for my RAM).  With other settings, such as DDR333, 2.5-3-3-7, 2T, Auto V, Aggressive Timing enabled, Memtest failed test #5 maybe once out of 5000.
I also concluded that the RAM voltage and Aggressive Timing setting was having a big impact.  Some settings would not work (failed Memtest) with RAM at 2.80V but would work with RAM at Auto V.  Some settings would not work (failed Memtest) with Aggressive Timing enabled but would work with it disabled.
Finally, I started to occasionally get R,G,R,G (Processor Initialization) on the D-Bracket upon cold-start & warm-start, which suggests a PSU issue:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=76972.msg542545#msg542545
That pushed me over the top, and I decided to buy a new PSU (TG-480-U22) and a new SATA HDD (WD2500KS) just because.
Problem solved.  Thanks for all the help.
I will continue to buy MSI in the future just because of these forums…and a good product of course!

  • Msi k8n neo platinum ps2 keyboard problem

Hi. I'm having issues with my msi k8n neo platinum motherboard. I've read about 50 posts on these forums regarding the supposed ps2 keyboard issues with recent msi boards. However none of them seems to address my current situation.
Like many  others, when I power up my system the cpu fan spins for like 3 seconds then everything comes to a halt.
I tried many things to get my system to boot and the only thing that works is plugging my ps2 keyboard into the ps2 mouse port and moving the ps2 mouse into a usb port with an adapter.
It seems there's no hope for fixing the problem other than RMA'ing, but I thought I would add to the pile of complaints stacking up against the MSI boards.

if u had read the threads a little more u might have found a solution that seems to have worked 4 many - a usb keyboard usb Keyboard if u go this route dont forget to enable usb kb in bios
Edit: This Thread Summarises the situation PS2 keyboard/mouse causes random shutdowns or doesnt work

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum with Vapochill Case problems - Help anyone. :)

    Hi all,
Had a bit of a tricky problem and as Im new to this board I have no idea what could be causing this.
    First all all system specs:
    Athlon 64 3700+ Clawhammer
    MSI K8N Neo Platinum -
1 gig Corsair XMS ProL Low Latency Ram (2 x 512mb)
    Nvidia Gefore 6600GT
    1 x WD Raptor 10000rpm HD
    NEC 2500a DVD writer.
    Eye-T 550w PSU.
Vapochill SE Case with installed Vapochill Phase change cooling.
Here are photos of it in its present state, you will notice that it isnt installed in the case at the moment.
The reason for that is because the two wont work together and I want them to so so bad...
So, hopefully someone here can save the day for me - here goes.
I have tested the Motherboard and all other componants outside of the case and everything runs smoothly and there are no problems what so ever, great.
I have also retested the Vapochill case with another motherboard and that also works without a hitch.
The problem comes when I insall the MSI board into the system, all hooked with a really basic setup, PSU, Case cooling, CPU and Ram. Flick the on switch on the power suply and the system turns on for around 1/2 a second then turns off again. I found this strange because it soundnt come on at all until I press the power button.
If I press the power button the same thing will happen over and over.
I have tried a different powersupply and this does nothing at all.
I have checked for shorts and there is no possible way it is shorting on anything.
I have a fan plugged in where the CPU fan would go and this doesnt help.
I have taken it back out and tested it again and it still works ok.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Are there any secret Bio's menu's that would have an option that would solve this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Glenn

When you are running the MoBo standalone, what are you connecting to the Power, Reset, HDD, etc. pins ?  Are you using the wires from the Vapochill case, or something else ?  It looks like a single cable with an intermittent switch (red/white cable).  I once had a similar sort of problem and it was because I hadn't connected up (the incredibly fiddly) cables correctly.  Other than that, I would have gone for a short of some sort - but you have checked that already, so . . . .
As to the system starting to power-up when you switch on the PSU, I wouldn't worry too much about this.  It seems to happen from time to time with some of my systems - amongst other things, the BIOS can be set to resume to previous state after a power-fail.

  • K8n neo Platinum and Optical Drive problem?

I need some help figuring this out.  I've been searching for awhile but can't find any more information so I figured I'd ask here.
I have a Lite on LDW 411s dvd writer that is on the same ide channel as a lite on dvd player (labled as JLMS SJ-HD1665 in the device manager.
The problem is on the 411S where it will read the DVD/CD disk but when I try to use Cyberlink PowerDVD or Nero Recode to play or read the DVD it will just hang.  If I don't try to play these files and just open them in explorer then I can access them.
I'm trying to see if there are some conflict issues with the nforce drivers but am still looking.
    My setup is this.
    AMD 64 3000+
    K8n Neo Platinum nforce 3 250 Bios 1.4
    Western Digital 120 gb hd
    PQI 3200 1 gig memory
    PNY 6800 GT
    Audigy 2
    Antec Trupower 420
Any help would be great as I'm totally stuck.  Thanks.
Also to note I can play DVDs and use recode fine off the DVD rom drive but just not off the DVD writer (411s).

You might have better luck making the reader the slave on the channel your HD is on. I had both a burner/writer on the same channel and while it worked, the performance was very poor.
Man, I need to get around to posting my specs someday, but I have the same MB and BIOS as you. I'm also using the nForce unified drivers including IDE.
