K8N Neo: flash to bios 1.5 with Raid0 setup. Do I dare?

Hi,
I noticed that a new bios (1.5) was available for my K8N Neo board. The 1.5 bios also updates the nvraid bios. Since I am running a bootable raid0 setup, I am a bit hesitant to upgrade since I fear that it might screw up my raid0 array.
So, my question is: what will happen to my raid0 setup? Do I dare to flash?
Also, is the cpu temp issue resolved?
/E

Iv'e been running the 1.5 version for some time and have no problems .
I have been updating / downgrading bioses alot , no problem with the raid(s) .
Just make sure to have the latest raid class driver and storage driver ( 510.2600.446 / 2.60 ) installed in
your windows installation before flashing bios and you shouldn't have any problems .
Update ide/sata controllers and raid controller through device manager if neccesary .
The raid arrays reside on the harddisk themselves not in the raidbios
the raidbios take care of the communication through drivers .
The temperature readings still has the problem with to high readout at cold boot
at warm boot/restart the readings are correct .

    Hello
If I switch off the power to the power supply to say move the PC perhaps the BIOS resets to default settings. This is really annoying because it resets the date causing Windows XP to activated again...and again.....and again.....   >:(

  • K8N Neo FSR, possible BIOS bug: setting Vcore with Cool'n Quiet enabled broken?

    Athlon 64 3400+, socket 754
    K8N Neo FSR, Pheonix-Award BIOS V1,5
    WinXP SP2
Having Cool'n Quiet disabled in BIOS setup, CPU core voltage adjustment
using 'Adjust CPU VID' below the Athlon 64 default 1,5V core voltage
    works like a charm. Fine!
But with Cool'n Quiet enabled in BIOS setup (and WinXP), under load the
CPU core voltage raises to 1,5V in any case, independently of what I did
define in BIOS setup with 'Adjust CPU VID' (e.g. 1,4V). Software tools setting
Vcore like Core Center are not running.
So I can choose to either run a silent system in idle mode with Cool'n Quiet
enabled or under heavy CPU load with Cool'n Quiet disabled but Vcore
reduced :-( Am I missing something or does it rather look like a BIOS
    bug?

As undervolting is not considured standard operating proceedures then how can it be considured a bug.
nor is overclocking but MSI mobo manual reads 'This motherboard is designed to support overclocking.'
So this mobo is designed for supporting at least one non standard operating procedure
Seriously, if BIOS offers a feature I suppose it to work as expected.

  • K8N Neo 2 PLatinum BIOS FLASHING

Hey guys, received a BIOS update for my system but will have to do it via command prompt.
my problem is Im running windows XP and such it dont have a dos enviroment.
how can i flash my bios then ??
    PS...im using a S-ata drive as my C: drive
    any one help plz !!!

You can use the search button on-top and search for "update flash bios" and get lots of posts describing this procedure .
Here is the generic MSI procedure for non-fat system.
    http://www.msicomputer.com/support/BIOS_NON_FAT.asp
I assume you have a floppy station in the rig.
Boot disks can be downloaded from http://www.bootdisk.com
You will also need the award dos based flash program if you didn't receive it.
    http://216.158.218.35/edoc/bios_uploads/7025v12.zip
You find the AWFL833D.exe flash routine program in this bios zip file .

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum 2 Bios Sign On.

So I just upgraded my desktop system to juicy quad core goodness, and was going to put my K8N Neo Platinum 2 into my server box.
When I put it in, and booted it up the fans would turn on, but there was a second where it tried to output to the display and my monitor would turn on. but then it turned off.
So after disecting it again, and plugging only the video card (Geforce 6200 AGP) and the d-bracket in I could see that the lights signaled that it was stuck at the Bios Sign On.
I have a 550W Antec PSU in the box, I'm positive that is plenty, since it was in my old set up and feeding the 6800GT just fine previously.
The only real differences between the set up I had before and what is in it now, is the Adaptec 29160 SCSI card, and I removed the Audigy Platinum and the 6800 GT Agp card that I had in it.  I even tried putting that card back in, but no luck there either.
I've tried clearing the CMOS, I've tried even putting it into a new case with different PSU.  Still the same, fans start spinning, but no display.
After reading here on some other Bios issues, it says to put in a PCI card (I'll try that Monday, as I took the board into work to try to get it booted there).  I also need to test it out with one stick of ram (though I did take out two of them because I had planned on putting the other 2gb in a different PC, leaving 512mb Corsair sticks)
With installing the BIOS from Floppy, will this recover the current problem of not being able to get past the Bios Sign on?
Thanks for any help, it's greatly appreciated.

    Try with mainboard out of PC case {
Test the motherboard outside of the case to verify that the motherboard is not shorting to the case and causing a problem
         •    With only the CPU and heat sink, memory, and video card (or onboard video) connected to the motherboard, place the motherboard on a non-conductive surface and retest the motherboard
         •    Check the case mounting standoffs to verify that they are lining up correctly with the mounting holes on the motherboard.

  • MSI K8N Neo Pl. needs BIOS upgrade BAD!

Some bugs i have sinds I use this mobo:
*SB Audigy2 ZS: All installed but no go: xp manager says I need up to date firmware/bios but I used the latest bios (1.10) and drivers.
*Hercules Oc 3D tweaker: install gives continue auto reboot!!!
    needs save mode to uninstall.
*PSU has only 2.25V on the 12V line???? alarm on MSI alert4 and MBM5, report on SiSoftware Sandra!!!
In bios itselve the 12V line seems normal (12.21V)
    *As for 3D mark? 3DM01 as 3DM03 has less marks (400 points) than my XP2500+ @2.2Gig (XP3200+)!!!
*Sometimes a weard sound coming from mobo, like a car with bad breaks.
    And this gets realy annoying!!!
*The onboard sound is just sad, cracking sound of realy bad quality.
Is the K8N NEO now bad?
Well........no, but MSI realy needs a bios update verry BAD!!!!!
Bios used on positive reviews: bios 1.13.
Latest on line bios: bios 1.10.........huhmmmm?
Are there onther people having the same or other problems with this board?
    Plz, post them here.

Maybe a new bios may help but i don't have a lot of hope in this brand no more.
Max OC i get is 2100MHz, lol OMG.
No use going up with Vcore, its nog go all the way.
This CPU go's @ 2400MHz with no prob on a ASUS K8V Deluxe at stock.
MEM is corsair 1024MB XMS PC3200LL.
Seems there is nothing working on this mobo at all like it has to.
Temps are wrong, OC sucks, not stabel at all, strange sounds coming out of mobo, bad sound from onboad sound, bad support, bad NB cooling, backplate glued on the mobo.......and so on......
I have never had any problems with any MSI boards in the past.. Since I am system builder (maksys.biz) I test tons of motherboards yearly.. I am very happy with MSI's performance compared to other boards (asus, gigabyte, epox, etc).  A few times I needed to contact MSI to fix a few RMA problems and they were prompt to get back to me and take care of my problems.  I am currently using a MSI K8N Plat board. No problems.. Excellent performance.. I am sorry you feel the way you do about MSI and wish the best for you.

BE careful in your statement Stick .
Quite a few with K8N Neo Platinum (MS-7030) has gotten their board ruined (no-post) over the last weeks
cause by LiveUpdate giving out a wrong MS-7030 bios .
There is three 7030 which use different bioses and is identified on the bios extension name .
MS-7030 versions 1.0 to 2.22 is for the 1'st generation (Neo Platinum and FSR)
The other two have extension 7030.5xx and 7030.7xx and is for Neo-V and Neo V 2.0 .
Think it's a really bad call from MSI to use the same MS number for seperate boards that completely
rely on "their own" bios ,and at the same time autoprovide their bios files through the liveupdate server .
do all of those BIOSes have the same BIOS string ID?

  • K8N Neo 2 Hidden Bios Options!!!

    Hi,
Has anyone tried those new options and can tell me what they do exactly??
To enable them you must press Shift+F2 and Alt+F3 rapidly in the bios.
Then go in the cell menu and you will find new options:
    NV/ATI Speedup
    Dram drive strenght
    PCI clock auto detect
I am wondering why has MSI been hidding this from the users and if there are other combinations for other hidden options.

    FX53 ZALMAN 7000CU COOLING
OCZ DUAL CHANNEL 1GB PC3200 PLATINUM REV 2

I have recently put the system together but have suspicions about settings in the bios.
could you tell me what your settings are FSB, Multipliers, Voltages, etc etc.
Sisoft Sandra tells me that my CPU Voltage is set to low but I never touched this setting, alla bit confusing for a noob at this, I was just relieved that it hung together and it works but not sure where to start, I intend on some mild forrays into Over Clocking but nothing nuts..
I have my Ram set up for 1T and tight timings 2-2-2-5 but I know it has got loads of headroom but not sure where to start.
I ran a 2001 default benchmark and got 29250 so it can't be far off in the settings. I just seek re assurance I guess and sorry if I have hi jacked the thread a bit, just realised.
    Thanx.

    Great scores by the way.

  • K8N Neo platinum 2 BIOS 1.a( latest release)

I flashed to the new bios with live update. System seems to boot slower (same settings as 1.8), and on the nvidia raid boot screen just before raid utility in bold bright white letters  I get--   WARNING: HAVE OPTION ROM CANNOT BE INVOKE  (not a typo, thats what it says). When i flashed back to 1.8 manually, settings were not default, they were at my previous settings before i flashed to new bios, should that have not been lost or erased?. System performance is down also.

    Hello @ALL
    My Problem:
Since i have flashed the Bios to Version 1.A, i cant´t boot from my PCI-RaidController !!! It´s listed in the IRQ-List before the error occurs (no system disk, please insert disk).
The Boot priority-settings in BIOS are: 1. Floppy 2. CDROM 3.Harddisk...Boot from other = enabled. Priority is 1. bootable add in Cards
The error "WARNING: HAVE OPTION ROM CANNOT BE INVOKE" i have, too...when i set the USB-Option from "shadow" to "upper memory area" it is disappear. But the system can´t boot, too.
Controllertype is : DawiControl DC150-Raid (SiliconImage SiL 3112A) with latest Bios 1.2
Now i have reflashed to version 1.36Mod. I´m searching for a newer bios /w vCore option up to 18,3% like the 1.36Mod.
    (sorry for my bad english...)
Welcome to the club .(have a PCI SIL3112 myself)
Any BIOS from 1.9 and up have some kind of fault when it comes to boot from disks connected
    to addon pci card .
Only solution is to not use any 1.9x or later bios until MSI have it fixed .

  • K8N Neo - Tried to bios to 2.1 - Verifying error - pc dead

    Hello,
I tried to update my bios to version 2.1 with the winflash utility.
After flashing it says "verfy error". I tried to downgrade to 1.9 again, same error.
Then upgrade to 2.1 and restart.
After this I tried restarting the system => no beep, black screen...
No success with the clear cmos jumper.
Is there a possibility to do anything or just buying a new mobo?
    Thanks in advance!
    Bjoern

Tiresmoke is aware of the issue and I believe is talking to MSI about it.  Perhaps he can point you in the best direction.

I can tell you a safe o/c would be 3.4.4.8 at 2.85 Volts and 230 Mhz for start.
My Value Ram does that hands down.
BTW it might also be the 1T command.Set it to 2T (although it might not be present)
I know Claw's have a problem with that.
The max i have taken my Value Ram is 242 at 2.85 3.4.4.8
    Weird things happen after that....
hmm, well there are a few problems to start off with. first, my computer won't post with cas3. i've tried, and i dunno why, but it just doesn't post.
and i can oc just as far with 1t vs 2t, so i just leave it at 1t because of the major performance increase i get. right now i'm trying with less voltage.
i dunno why, but with the voltage set to auto, i appear to be prime stable at 206mhz.. 207 gives me an error after 15 min though. maybe i'll set the voltage to 2.7 or something and see how that works out.
i'll report back in a little while with some more concrete numbers.
edit: changed from 1&3 to 1&2, seems prime stable at 2.5-3-3-8, 1.75v, 215mhz
edit 2: up to 225mhz and still going strong. seems like most of my problems were because i had that one stick in the 3rd socket.
