K8n neo-fsr stops for 10 seconds during windows startup

k8n neo-fsr with bios 1.3 and winxp sp2. Never tested anything else.
200gb seagate sata drive connected to the sata4 plug. Only drive.
In the beginning of windows xp startup it stops for at least 10-20 seconds before it continues? Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance

  • Cannot find the Power Led connector for JFP1 to connect on K8N Neo FSR

    Hi,
I have just bought the MSI K8N Neo FSR (MS 7030) to build a new computer with (amongst others) an Athlon 64 3000 processor and an Enermax 3051 case.
I can't even get a start: if I click on "Power" I just get a red light under the Power button for 1 second and nothing start.
This may be related with the fact that I did not find a "Power LED" connector for JFP1 (I have connected all the others connectors, including the Power LED one for JFP2).
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Precisions:
At the beginning, I had forgotten to connect the ATX 12V power connector on JPW1.
After having done that without getting an improvement, I did a Clear CMOS (after having unplug the power cable).
Now the CPU fan begins to turn just when I switch the power on from back of the case (and not from the power button) and stops turning after five seconds.
Sometimes, I get an orange light during 1/2 second on the D-bracket LEDs.

evidently if he fixed it, the solution was posted elsewhere
so what have you tried so far? has this system ever worked?
post your PSU specs. try powering up board outside the case in case there is a short somewhere
I have tried a different power unit, different JFP1 configerations, removing and replacing MB battery, changing the jumper settings on JBAT1 to clear CMOS.
Everything is just dead, no power anywhere. I get the fan light inside the Power unit to light up for 1 second when i connect the power cable and thats it. Its a 450 Watt power unit so it should be plenty. Maybe i will try removing the board and starting it that way.
This system has never worked, i just built it.

  • K8N Neo-FSR internet problem

I upgraded my old system to AMD 64 2800+, 1 GB RAM, and MSI K8N Neo-FSR. After that i reinstalled Windows XP. Everything's fine except that internet works terrible now with the onboard LAN. I'm using a DSL connection, and when i connect to the internet, everything works good for a few seconds, then upload and download speed goes to 0! After some time download speed comes back to that i had with my old system, but download stays at 0-1 KB/s. Sometimes I only get constant timeouts. I tried everything - updated BIOS, nVidia Ethernet drivers, tried different settings in Device manager, but nothing helps. I even bought a new PCI Ethernet card and tried connecting my modem to it and disabling the onboard LAN in BIOS, but even then everything's the same. Please help!

if the same problem goes for both addon and onboard ethernet then its not the motherboard as fault.
have you changed anything on the network settings ?
for me it works best with xp default settings.
    changed cable ?
1 guy reported that cable number 10 worked but not the 9 previous.
is the dsl modem connected as it should and working ?
do you have a "web server" in the modem so you can check the connection on ?

  • MSI K8N NEO-FSR BIOS Flash Corrupt

So there was an updated BIOS for my motherboard version 1.8 while I had 1.7. I went ahead and updated and it went fine. But then I noticed that my CPU speed was dramatically reduced and the multiplier was set to 5.0 giving me a 1ghz CPU. While I thought maybe the CMOS needed to be cleared I went ahead and did that but to no avail I wasnt able to fix that problem. I went over to the MSI Live Update to check for a new BIOS update and it had said that I had 1.8 version while the current version is 1.7. Just a few days before it said 1.8 was the latest. Hmmm. So I went off to the MSI website to find version 1.7 and downloaded it. To my surprise version 1.8 was available on the MSI website. I used the WinFlash program to flash my BIOS. Before doing so I closed all open applications including anti-virus, browsers, chatting programs, and so forth. But the flash was going VERY slow and it stopped with unable to verify bios. This made me scared pooless. After I restarted to no surprise my computer started up with BIOS Checksum error and asked for a floppy. I didn't have a floppy drive connected at the time but the computer shut itself off automatically. So I went and connected and floppy and looked up online at the MSI website about how to recover the BIOS. I found it and for my AWARD bios i followed the procedure. But each time it detects the floppy drive and then the computer shuts itself off. Even if i have no disc inside the floppy drive it'll shut off. Is it supposed to do this? I am unable to reflash my BIOS because of this behavior. I don't know what the cause of this problem is now. Did maybe the recovery portion of the BIOS get corrupted too? Please help. Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks in advanced. My specs are below btw:
    MSI K8N NEO FSR
    AWARD REV. 1.8
    AMD ATHLON 3200+ 754
    PDP 2x512MB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra
    Ultra-X 500watt
WD 160GB IDE, Seagate 200GB IDE
    Pioneer D-A07
Windows XP SP2, Gentoo Linux, Ubuntu Linux

Okay I tried taking unnecessary stuff out but it didn't help. I'm actually having the same problem this guy is having : https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=86508.0
Hmm looks like i might be in for a new motherboard or i can try the RMA process but I dont know how long that will take. Other than that...I dont know what to do. I could buy myself a new bios flash chip but they're damn expensive and I'd rather just buy a new motherboard. On another note I noticed that when I boot up the pc and i see that it detects the floppy I immediately pressed the reset button but it'll still shut down. So it's as if there is a timer somewhere. What the hell is up with this? It also seems MSI didn't release bad BIOS releases for my board only. Seems like people with other boards are having tons of problems with the latest BIOS releases.

  • Ms-7030 msi k8n neo fsr wont start

i made my system a follows.
    amd 2800+ 64
    msi k8n neo fsr
    kingston 400mhz ddr value ram
    6600gt inno3d agp
    wd800 80gb hardrive
    300 watts psu
brought the system home everything was working fine except for continous stuttering on hl2. also wid it came a smart cobra lite 56k modem from zoltrix, which was installed while makign the system, the modem had been deteced but when i tried to connect to the net, the status of the modem was found to be not connected, i removed the modem, restarted by switching the pci slots and everything but to no avail, put in an older zoltrix modem from my old pc, to no avail the modem just wudnt get recognized. the same modem though worked in my older p3 system. i took the systm to the place where they assembled it.as the system booted the modem got deteced, got winxpsp2 installed wid a fresh install. everything worked fine for a day untilt eh modem once again went back into death mode.took it back to the hardware shop i remember they were using an older keyboard on it too, well as they pressd the power button, the cpu fan and the gfx card fan moved a second and then stopped no booting
they replaced mobo then and there. even the same problem occured wid the new mobo, i left the system there to be tested but the thing i dont understand is they had assembled an tested the system by using the old keyboard and even then there was no problem. this time the system was working but as it reached the assemblers the cpu and gfxs card fan moved a sec as if power was fed for a second and dided changed psu's on one try on dry boot that is widout hd connected. the fans continously worked we removed power put into chasis and tried again to start but to no avail.
cud it really be the keyboard problem if that is solved then the problem left to deal wid is the modem wud the pci slots act the same way even on the newer board or chaning modems wud do any good, changed rams also that wudnt help booting either.
in both of the new mobos i didnt get the msi sticker that adds to my frustration.
posted this on another forum too, tha guy was havng problem using an older keyboard.

its really nice of u guys to reply so quickly its really appreciated. the thing is if the psu wasnt upto the job it wud have given away 3 days ago. but it didnt other psu tried also same problem. after a couple of hours ill be off to the hardware shop to see wat came out. the ram was reseated properly on all 3 slots.
plus the 300watts psu may not even be 300 cuz its locally made and stupid quality maybe lower to around 250, but the system worked fine all along, checked rail supplies on the mobo mopnitor and they seemed fine.will keep u guys updated.

Tjena Rikard! You have to describe your system in some detail.
    Some famous culprits:
    - Other PCI-cards.
    - Poor or old Windows installation.
    - Weak PSU.
    - IRQ problem.
    - A combination of all or any of above.
The network card is not a PCI-one, but integrated to the motherboard. Only card in the system is a PCI-E graphic.
Maybe poor or old windows, might try that...
Shouldn't be weak PSU, It's pretty good, I've been told.
    IRQ?

  • S3 mode doesn't work fine on K8N Neo-fsr since overclocking, please help!

    I have a K8N Neo-FSR (MS-7030) BIOS version 1.6 (I tried 1.4, 1.5), running AMD64 2800+ SK 754, 2x 256MB DDR400 Kingston valueram pluging in slot 1&2. It runs well except S3 mode    .
Since I overclock HTT (everythings else have their own default values), S3 mode seems to work so crazy . After wake up from this usefull stop-grant standby mode, HTT is given back to its original speed, 200MHz, without notice (?!)  .
You know that I don;t like this much, do you?
Who responsible for this function? Mainboard or CPU? If it's mainboard, which department will be sentenced, BIOS or chipsets/ICs?
Could anybody give me a solution to achive higher speed by overclocking without giving up using S3?
    Thanks so much!

It's a bad new! I had bad feeling about DFI with the same problem, S3 mode resuming bring FSB back to df and even sometimes led the system to the ruin. But upgrading bios solved this issue. My old Abit did S3 mode fine. Now I have a new MSI and once again I must use teknophyle's way or slow hibernation instead.
On the same occasion, I wana ask about some shortcoming in 1.6 bios: power on by keyboard/mouse and power led options. I only found S3 wake up by keyboard/mouse but not keyboard/mouse power-on options! There is power led option in version 1.56 but it disapeared in 1.6. Now my mobo has no signal to differentiate between sleep and power-off. would you give back the useful power led option and add power on by combination keys in the near future bios version, syar? Look forward to hearing some good new from you :D.

  • K8N Neo FSR Bios overclocking functions help needed

Hi all, I am a small pc builder for the family and i have found some problems with the bios of my uncles K8N neo FSR which I recommended for him. Basically it wouldn't seem to overclock with the 'Dynamic Overclocking' function on bios v1.7 but did manually by adjusting FSB incrementally (ie from 200 to 205 Mhz). When I questioned this before someone had mentioned that it could be ok to run like this. However I have since updated the bios to v1.9 and even v2.1 as they became available but now neither seem to overclock manually nor using 'Dynamic overclocking'
Firstly though, can someone clear up my first conception; To test if the Dynamic Overclocking function is working can I set it to a higher setting (ie.'Commander'), save and exit bios (restarting) ---> go straight back into bios ----> go straight back into Cell Menu and check 'Current frequency of cpu' has changed?
I only ask this as if this is the case then my Dynamic Overclocking function hasn't worked with three bios' and I wont bother with anything until I RMA the board lol, as I have never been able to change the frequency of my cpu at boot/bios stage with the dynamic overclocking function.
    Can anyone help me?

Hi Stu, yesterday I think i found out what u mean lol. I studied a 'Sticky' ? about overclocking A64s and found some interesting stuff. Apparently overclocking the HTT is dangerous, and A64s are always at least half locked. Now with this in mind Ive been wondering if there are interlocks built into my mainboard stopping me from using the 'CPU Overclock' function to overclock my pc manually from the set 200Mhz while my HTT is still set at 4x. -I say this as the HTT on my system is 800Mhz for a socket754 Sempron 3000Bx, thus overclocking this would increase my HTT above the 800Mhz threashold (I think) lol. All sounds complex but I think Ive figured it out as Im following instructions from the sticky to lower my HTT multiplier before increasing my cpu overclock. Its hard as my mainboard has Nforce3 chipset which has different ways of overclocking to every other board lol. So far I have managed to increase the overclock, but only when the HTT multiplier is lowered to 3x. I have also lowered my cpu multiplier though, and thus am trying to figure out where my 1810Mhz clock speed has changed to 1630 lol. Will try again now. I want to raise the clock speed above 1810, keeping the HTT lower than 800 and leaving the memory alone at 400DDR lol. Im hoping the memory is seperate as it seems to be on this chipset.

  • Have you sucessfully overclocked you K8N Neo FSR? Plz post details.

    Hi guys !
Im still stuck with my system that does NOT want to be overclocked so I wanted to know if I'm the only one or not ?
If you have managed to overclocked you system using K8N Neo FSR please post you details.
And I'm also looking for tips on how to bypass issues related to unsucessful overclocking.
    Thank You.
I've managed to do this so far...
    A64 3200+ NewCastle CG-stepping @ 210x11 vCore 1.55
    Corsair Value Select DDR 400 @ 3-3-3-8-2T VDimm 2.70
    using official BIOS version 1.4
    But that's it...
If I increase vDimm above 2.75 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login
If I increase FSB above 210 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login
    If I set FSB 230x10 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login
If I set timings to higher values e.g. 3-5-5-10 = NoBoot/Unsucessful Windows Login

    Gen,
I found a few interesting things last night.  1st, I was having a problem with my CPU and Northbridge fans throttling down to about 1/3 speed after a few minutes of use.  I disabled the Northbridge and CPU target fan settings in BIOS.  You can find these options in the System Health menu of your BIOS.  Also, if you have enabled the "Optimized" option in your BIOS, please disable it and set to "manual".  The only option I've found to help is to select "Aggessive" timings for your memory.  It doesn't change your speed in the BIOS for some reason, but it does do something else because my memory bandwidth is about 60 more with this setting enabled instead of disabled (3430 Int / 3430 Float in Sandra 04 versus 3493 / 3496 with the setting enabled.  OF ALL THINGS MAKE SURE TO DISABLE THE "OPTIMIZED" function and leave it set at manual.  Also, shoot me your current memory timings one more time.  Are you using BIOS rev. 1.4?  Let me know.  Sorry it takes so long between posts, but I check from both work and home and it's usually several hours between getting chances to check for updated posts.  I didn't have to reduce the HT setting on my overclock (I'm still running 4X), but I've read several posts where a setting of 3X will help if you're having problems o/cing.  Also, on your memory timings make sure and set your DRAM to FSB ratio at Auto.  This allows the memory to sync with your FSB speed.  And, I don't remember if I mentioned it before, but be sure to set your AGP speed to 67 (66 is the default).  At a setting at 67 it will positively lock your PCI and AGP clocks to 67 and 33 respectively, making sure that you aren't overstressing any of your PCI devices or you video card.

  • Strange Temp Jumps on MSI K8N Neo-FSR

    Hi!
    I got a MSI K8N Neo-FSR.
My temp in speedfan jumps from 36 to 42 just like that then back to 36.
It's pretty disturbing to see that.. And I wounder does someone else have the same problem? Then I don't know how accurate the new BIOS for this mb is. On the Abit I hade before the temp was 34 idle.. Today I allso bend the small metal pice that you screw in on the Zalman ALCU cpu cooler so it would fit and press harder, then the temp sank from 42 to 36 idle. And the CoreCenter shows a temp on 44 now and speedfan 36 but jumps to 40-42 just for a second.
Anyone know what the problam can be? It's kinda anyoing when you OC some because you don't know the right temp.

You should try and update your bios , speedfan and core center showed different temperatures for me too until i updated my bios. On the other hand i have a different problem, that is: when i start my pc(cold start) my idle temperature is 40 degrees but if i restart it drops to 30, does someone have any clue why?

  • K8N Neo FSR, Please Help a Newbie

    Hey all,
I'm new to these forums and was wondering if I could get some help or advice.  I currently own an athlon 64 3200+ newcastle with a K8N Neo FSR motherboard.  I have heard that my mobo is basically a platinum minus the luxury of firewire ports, could I be correct about that?  If so, I went to msi.com.tw website to update my drivers and could not help but notice that K8N Neo Platinum has two more updates that whats offered for my FSR, those being CoreCenter 1.7.0.0 and DigiCell 1.03.00.00.  I find corecenter to be useful and am wondering will these two updated versions of the apps work with my FSR, and why would MSI not post the updates in the FSR section.
Also, my board came stock with bios 1.2 and I loaded up windows sp2 and all the drivers and such and everything seems to be working fine to my knowledge, cool n quiet on with cpu around 994 to 1004 mhz, temp readings from bios and sandra all report 36-43 degrees C.  Does that sound right to anyone, because I'm not a fan of bios flashing, would flashing to the newest official 1.4 be any benefit to me?
One last thing, I encountered a problem with a creative usb mouse and do not know the source of the problem or how to solve it, it is the optical mouse lite with a blue scroll wheel and operates fine, but after I shutdown my computer the mouse light is still on, is that normal or is there anything I can do about it besides shutting down my power supply everytime I turn off my computer.
Sorry for the loads of questions, if anyone actually reads this please provide me some input/insight.  Thanks in advance.

If you look at the prduct page for the K8N Neo FSR, and choose the BIOS link it brings you to page:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=571&kind=1
Which shows the BIOS' available for the K8N Neo FSR.  Notice that 1.3 and 1.4 are available and that the K8N Neo FSR is considered to be a MS7030 which is the same model number of the K8n Neo Platinum.  From this I surmise that you can use the same BIOS and drivers and all that the Platinum uses and everything should work fine.

  • K8N Neo-FSR doesn't boot

    Hello everyone
I got my mobo (K8N Neo-FSR) more than 6 months ago, and worked without any problems until today.
First of all, I made a BIOS update from 1.7 to 1.9 using MSI Live Update. No problems to report, the computer worked after that for several hours. Then I turned off the PC. And the next time I wanted to turn it on, it didn't boot.
    Here's my D-Bracket message :
This corresponds to "Initializing keyboard controller"
The problem is that apparently it has absolutely nothing to do with my keyboard, as I tired changing it.
    Clearing CMOS didn't help.
Any ideas how I can fix this? Or should I contact the support?

Before you answered, I tried to check the RAM. As a matter of fact by removing one of 3 memory sticks the computer worked. Later I figured out that if I lower the RAM frequency from 200 MHz to 166, all 3 sticks work perfectly well.
Now the question is : WHY THE HELL DID THIS BIOS UPDATE MESS UP MY RAM??? Weird.

  • K8N Neo-FSR v2.0 + Sempron 2800+ E6 = No Go?

    Hello!
Wanted to assemble a rig for playing around with Ubuntu 64-Bit, so I headed out and obtained ...
    ... a MSI K8N Neo-FSR v2.0 (7030-20C, shipped with BIOS 5.10)
    ... a AMD Sempron 2800+ (Palomino, Step E6)
Upon power-on it refuses to POST ---> 1 continous beep
If I recall the AWARD beep-codes correctly this means that the CPU failed to initialize.
    Troubleshooting steps:
    - Stripped down to board + CPU + 1x RAM + GFX -> No Go (1 beep)
    - Stripped down to board + CPU + 1x RAM -> No Go (1 beep)
    - Stripped down to board + CPU -> No Go (1 beep)
Meanwhile I tested the CPU and RAM in in another S754 board a friend borrowed me ... both work fine.
So this leads me to the question:
Does anyone has a clue what might be wrong here? I don't have greater experiences with nForce boards so my knowledge about them is very limited.
    Thanks for helpful suggestions.

This is the latest bios version of the 5X bios series (and should be a safe one since yours is currently running with 510).
    http://download.msi.com.tw/support/bos_exe/mbd_bios/7030v54.zip
Don't know if it will add support for your cpu though.
Well ... as the changelog of the BIOS isn't exactly informative we would only know if I could get the board to POST so that I would be able to flash.
This however isn't a valid option as the board keeps on beeping upon power-on.

Theese 7030 boards have become unbelievable hard to track as there are so many versions released now.
    ref:  http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=688
This page also lists another bios series to use 1X and 9X series
In addition it lists 2800 E6 Palermo as NONE (which means not verified/under testing)
Direct link to many 7030 boards bioses are also gone .
You're right --- I did some more investigation yesterday and became award of the "too many 7030's" issue. The one I'm referring to is actually the one you linked at (K8N Neo-FSR V2.0).
As the sticker on the flash reads v5.1 I assume the board is PCB rev. 1 ... as the 9.x BIOS seems to be for PCB v3.0 only.
Took a look through the CPU Support ... and ... WTH?
Only Turion CPUs and one A64 (step E6) is listed as compatible?
Guess we found the showstopper ... either the board or BIOS seems to dislike the E6 Sempron then. Hmm ... guess I either return the CPU or the board. It seems as getting a Turion would be the better choice as the shops in my area don't have anymore AGP S754 boards (and the same goes S939 boards). I only need a rig to play with server setup-scenarios of Ubuntu 64-Bit and no powerhorse for gaming or such.
Thanks for pointing me to the CPU support list ... I would have never dared to imagine that a board will only run with a limited set of AMD CPUs ...

  • K8N Neo-FSR 4 Red LEDS

I put together an amd64 system:
    K8N Neo-FSR
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    1024mb corsair valueselect (2x512)
When I power on, I get 4 red leds on the dbracket, which is supposedly a damaged or incorrectly installed cpu.  I am 99% sure that both of the cpus that i tried were good, but I am 100% sure that one of them was.  I also tried reseating them a few times.  Is there anything else 4 red leds means?
Also, the computer turns on with the powers supply switch and the power/reset switches don't work at all even though they are plugged in to the correct places.  Anyone got any ideas?

I had the exact same problem. Thought it was the CPU, so returned it and got a new one, and the error continued. Here's how I got it to stop:
Take EVERYTHING off the mobo. All the PCI/AGP cards and the ram. You can leave your drives hooked up, but unplug the power from them.
Then, try to reboot it. When I did that, it finally got past the 4 LEDs and gave the memory error leds. So I put in the ram, and it gave me the next error. So on and so forth. I kept putting in whatever piece of hardware it was crying about, until it got all the way through, at which point I put in my extra stuff (sound card, tv card). Yes, it's a pain in the ass.
When I was putting them back in, the only thing I did different is I put my tv card in the slot above the orange PCI slot (the one on the bottom that is "enhanced"). I'm wondering if that wasn't the problem to begin with.
