K8N Neo + Hyper6 with 2 LED Fans is a match made in heaven!

Here is the proof...

Room temp. between 25C and 28C
Coolermaster Hyper6 with 2 LED Fans ( 1 fan blows in and the other fan blows out )
Front of case:
Two Coolermaster LED fans blow cool air straight to the Hyper6 and 5900XT.
Back of case:
Two Coolermaster LED fans suck any hot air straight out the back.
The only problem I had was installing the Hyper6 retention mechanism.
You have to file out a groove at the base of the retention so that it doesn't press on a small transistor-like component on the motherboard.
But the result is heavenly ..... wouldn't you agree?

Oyeah, this Hyper 6 HSF from cooler master is one of the many reason why I choosed to replaced my ABIT KV8 with MSI K8N Neo Plat. K8N uniqe layout design was definitely the only best match for this massive HSF. Yes this thing could lower my proc a lot better than the stock HSF, but it also consumed a wider area around proc than any ather HSF did, at least in my old ABIT KV8 I could only use one fan to suck the hot air (but still to close to PSU) since using the 2nd fan will only caused the fan blocked by the VGA card (AGP card was to closed with the fan leaving only 2-3 mm gap). Somehow I think this mobo layout was designed to accomodate Hyper 6 HSF.

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum with Vapochill Case problems - Help anyone. :)

    Hi all,
Had a bit of a tricky problem and as Im new to this board I have no idea what could be causing this.
    First all all system specs:
    Athlon 64 3700+ Clawhammer
    MSI K8N Neo Platinum -
1 gig Corsair XMS ProL Low Latency Ram (2 x 512mb)
    Nvidia Gefore 6600GT
    1 x WD Raptor 10000rpm HD
    NEC 2500a DVD writer.
    Eye-T 550w PSU.
Vapochill SE Case with installed Vapochill Phase change cooling.
Here are photos of it in its present state, you will notice that it isnt installed in the case at the moment.
The reason for that is because the two wont work together and I want them to so so bad...
So, hopefully someone here can save the day for me - here goes.
I have tested the Motherboard and all other componants outside of the case and everything runs smoothly and there are no problems what so ever, great.
I have also retested the Vapochill case with another motherboard and that also works without a hitch.
The problem comes when I insall the MSI board into the system, all hooked with a really basic setup, PSU, Case cooling, CPU and Ram. Flick the on switch on the power suply and the system turns on for around 1/2 a second then turns off again. I found this strange because it soundnt come on at all until I press the power button.
If I press the power button the same thing will happen over and over.
I have tried a different powersupply and this does nothing at all.
I have checked for shorts and there is no possible way it is shorting on anything.
I have a fan plugged in where the CPU fan would go and this doesnt help.
I have taken it back out and tested it again and it still works ok.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Are there any secret Bio's menu's that would have an option that would solve this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Glenn

When you are running the MoBo standalone, what are you connecting to the Power, Reset, HDD, etc. pins ?  Are you using the wires from the Vapochill case, or something else ?  It looks like a single cable with an intermittent switch (red/white cable).  I once had a similar sort of problem and it was because I hadn't connected up (the incredibly fiddly) cables correctly.  Other than that, I would have gone for a short of some sort - but you have checked that already, so . . . .
As to the system starting to power-up when you switch on the PSU, I wouldn't worry too much about this.  It seems to happen from time to time with some of my systems - amongst other things, the BIOS can be set to resume to previous state after a power-fail.

    Hello,
I got a new Socket754 CPU Venice E6 3000+ and replaced it with NewCastle CG 3200+.
But BIOS indicates VCORE is 1.9V+. It's obvious that it's too high and also CPU temp is 0C/32F.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

  • K8N Neo platinum with 3 Ram slots full?

Looking to upgrade my Athlon 64 3400+ (ClawHammer C0) from 1GB to 2GB.
One of the options would be to add a 1GB DIMM to the two existing 512MBs. I know this would drop me back to DDR333, but would there be other problems?
    The board's a K8N Neo Platinum.
    Thanks in advance

It really depends on your processor, since that is where the memory controller is. The newer Sempron 64 based on venice cores can handle 3 dimm's at 400 mhz fine (I think)
Newcastle cores and the older Sempron have issues, im not familiar with them so I dont know.
well, your close.....newcastles (least the one i have) and venices (for sure) can handle the 3dimms (in most cases....depending on ram brand, timings, etc...) and keep the 400mhz. i know i read a review somewhere that the memory controllers on clawhammers are Low Latency Brand picky. most of them would produce errors out the wazzoo with (for example: corsair 2-3-3-6 1t memory ) common ultra brand memory. i remember this review showing the twinmos wouldnt even post. i had a choice between two processors (3400+ clawhammer and the newcastle i have) i wanted the clawhammer cause i here they are wannabee fx's in the makin when overclockin but i did my homework (read/searched many reviews) and found that the clawhammer and using 3 double sided LL memory modules was a shot in the air. didnt want to take that chance for 512k more cache and have a unstable puter. i MUST have my patriot memory (cause they rock...) so when newcastle came i placed my dual channel (512mb x 2) kit in and walla....workin fine...placed my 1 gig stick in..... .......i bet the clawhammer would of worked (since i havent herd any issues with memory and clawhammers) but didnt want to take the chance.
what was your cpu stepping may i ask?? CO was the big booger that had memory picky issues and not being able to use 3 dimms at 400mhz stable.
    edit to my previous post.....
1 dimm used (dont matter on what size of memory module) would yield the best bandwidth scores. 2 or 3 dimms being used would yield same scores (and not matter which stick in what slot.....all combos gave me pretty much same scores).

  • Is there a silent/quiet K8N Neo 2 Plat chipset fan?

Got a Neo 2 Platinum with a Zalman in an Antec Sonata. The noisiest thing in the box is the little MSI chipset fan. It spins at about 5000 RPM and is pretty noisy. With Speedfan I can reduce its speed to 80% and the computer is basically silent.
I want to replace this chipset fan with a silent one with good cooling performance, does anyone have any recommendations? (I normally run Linux so Speedfan isn't an option).
    Thanks.

I dont know if permanently lowering the NB fan speed is such a good idea as it seems to run pretty warm even when the fan is running at 100%. Does anyone have any experience replacing the MSI NB fan on the Neo 2 Platinum? Does the passive Zalman work OK? I've seen reviews for the swifttech and microcool but they don't say much about the noise - any experiences people have had would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.
It probably runs pretty warm even at 100% because almost all boards have incorrectly applied thermal paste (at the factory). There have been pictures on the board here previously..

  • K8N Neo Platinum with Nvidia Unified Audio Drivers

Hi, I have two hard drives in my PC. I'm testing out the feasibility of me running X64 at the moment. I have newly installed X64 Windows XP on one new 2nd drive and used  5-5_xp64_dd_cp.exe for my ATI 9800 pro card with no problems. Then I have installed the nForce_6.25_WinXP64_international.exe audio drivers for my on board Realtek AC97 because i have heard they are better than the Realtek drivers themselves and the Nvmixer utility looks good. Ok, no problems.
I was so impressed with the X64 Nvidia drivers that I have decided in the meantime to replace the Realtek drivers with Nvidia ones on my 1st drive that has already got Windows XP Pro installed on it. So I uninstalled the Realtek and replaced them with these nForce_5.10_WinXP2K_WHQL_english.exe unified audio drivers.
But, for some reason, they dont work. As I understand, the Nforce 5.10 are unified drivers and should replace the original Realtek ones i had installed on my 1st drive. I see no speaker icon on my taskbar and when i click to open nvmixer on my programs list, a message appears stating it cannot open as there is no nvidia compatible sound hardware present in my machine. I already know this is not the case as the X64 Nvidia drivers work for my X64 installation on the 2nd drive.
Any ideas what i am doing wrong?

The sound quality on those compared to the 4.57 standalone nvidia (that has its own version of the realtek AC97 codec and updated interface drivers)  is not as good. Theres a long thread on here if you search for it for peoples opinions.

Shovon, the latest AC97 drivers from www.msicomputer.com will work perfectly for the K8N Neo2 Platinum
I currently have thwm running and have no problems
Go to that website, put the cursor over the 'Support' header and a drop down menu appears.
    Click on Downloads.
Scroll down till you see the mother board K8N Neo2 Platinum(under the main heading Slot 939/K8)
Click on the link, and you'll come to the drivers page.
The Listed AC97 drivers that are the latest are there.

  • MSI K8N Neo blinking power led?

    Okay.. so..
I just upgraded my system with the mobo mentioned above and an AMD Athlon 64 3200+.
I wanted to test some different some different linux systems that do 64 bits.. so, first i try gentoo and then debian-amd64 (both are text based/curses based installs).
The installs go great.. but when i finish up and install X the system halts and the power led starts flashing.
I suspect that X might be pushing my power supply to the limit (for windows users.. X is a graphical interface to linux;)
So, should i go to my store and buy a new PS?
If so, can you recommend any, or any specs of the PS?
    Any replies are appreciated.

You will have to make a bootable floppy with the latest bios here is MSI web page maybe this will help you http://www.msicomputer.com/support/bios_result.asp.

  • K8n neo platinum with 3-4 gig

does anybody have this board running with either 3 or 4 gig of ram?   Details please??
I thought I was buying a ddr400 board for 4 gig of ram. I'm a little pissed that i will probably end up with 3 gig at ddr 333.  If i can't even get that then i'll have to replace with a good motherboard.
    Thanks,

    It's a k8n neo2 platinum
The memory charts and specs are confusing and contridictory and wrong.   They esentialy duplicate what's in my manual.
page 8:  chart for DDr 400 showing 128 to 1 gig on each channel  and system density of 512 to 4 gig
just below that is another chart for memory combinations that shows 4 double sided dimms runs at DDR 333
Since there is no such thing as a single sided 1 gig dimm i'll assume the first chart is wrong.
in between is a note that says installing 3 modules can cause failure.
page 9: a note says the system density will only be detected up to 3 gig when all slots are filled with 1 gig dimms.
This seems to imply that I have to install 4  1 gig dimms to get 3 gigs usable.  and there is aparently no way to get 4 gigs usable.  Despite the numerous other places in the manual and msi's website that call this a 4 gig board.
After studying the manual, and msi's website, I don't know what the max memory is for this board or what to buy to get there.  I'm reluctant to spend anymore money on memory that won't work unless somebody else has tried it first.  There aparently are a lot of people running 2 1 gig modules sucessfully, but I need more.   Is anybody running 3 or 4 gig?

  • K8N Neo Plat with Thermaltake Silent Tower

I'm very happy with the Thermaltake Pipe101 & 90mm Tt UFO fan. It uses the stock backplate. Also, it weighs in at a reasonable 500g and the 4 heatpipes offer great cooling. Performance not quite as good as the towers, but it is a very balanced solid solution. Installation is easy...
-Remove the stock plastic CPU mounting bracket. It's attached with two screws. The Pipe 101 does not use a plastic mounting bracket.
-Leave the stock metal backplate in place.
-Install the CPU and apply thermal paste
-Install the Pipe101 using a single retainer. The whole thing is held down with two sping-loaded screws that fit in the same holes as the screws that hold the stock plastic CPU bracket to the MB.
As for noise, here are the specs of the 90mm Tt UFO fan:
    1300±20% RPM at 20°C
    3600±10% RPM at 55°C
    17 dBA at 1300RPM
    47 dBA at 3600RPM
    26.8CRM at 1300RPM / 81.2 CFM at 3600 RPM
For everyday light duty work, the fan turns at 1600-1800 RPM and the CPU temp is in the 34C to 36C range. When gamming, etc. the fan speed will rise to 2500-2800 RPM and the CPU temp is in the 42C to 46C range. Room temp is 22C-24C. My PC is about  3-4 ft from my head, and I can't hear the fan winding up until it hits about 2000RPM. The setup is very quiet for everyday use. I can hear the fan when gaming, but the noise level is very reasonable. Besides, it gets drowned out by my Klipsch Promedia system anyway. I have a Lian Li 6077 case with 4 Panasonic Panaflow fans, which are pretty quiet. Everything is controlled by a Tt Hardcano 12. Also, there is good clearance on the bottom of the Pipe101 heatsink to mount the Hardcano temp probe very close to the CPU without much fuss. The above mentioned temps are from the temp probe, not the MB.

  • K8N Neo 4-F chipset fan

    Hi,
The little fan (msi logo on it) has stopped working.  Does anybody know the part number or where to get another?  I have tried to call MSI many times, but I always have to leave a message.  Please help    Thanks

replace your fan with a fanless heatsink (for example the zalman)
About them... I have ZM-NB47J (that blue thing) but I still have not decided to mount it. There are many reports about them working on NF4 but in fact full of mixed opinions. Some running hot but without problems but there are some horror stories also.
    Well... Here:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=83749.msg596154#msg596154
I found nice Arioch`s guide showing that it is not so easy to remove old heatsink from NF4 NB. Damn... I found reports that there is only a minor pushpins problem but reports were about Asus NF4 motherboards. It looks like MSI is using something stronger between NB and heatsink plate.   Well I have no Platinum but SLI-FI and it is not necessary to cut NB47 mounting it on this board but what is under original MSI cooler remains a mystery. I am tempted but not willing to spent whole day cleaning NB core.

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum with Raid 0

Hi, I had face problem when Raid 0 try to run Windows XP. While i at windows logon screen, my system will auto restart. no even one time i can login to windows.
i download the latest raid driver from MSI website for the driver but the problem can't solve. what actually is the problem there? is that the latest raid driver not really supported for nForce 3 board?
    thank alot.

This has been a real mess for a long time.
Sometimes a newer or older driver with a certain version doesn't work well with a given nvraid.rom firmware .
BIOS 1.4 for MS-7030 has the nvraid firmware "NVIDIA RAID IDE ROM BIOS 4.59" .
And in theory you should use nvraid.sys nvatabus.sys with version 4.59 if you stay with that bios version.
Newest bios for MS7030/MS7025 have nvraid rom firmware 4.81  .
The BIOS 1.7 (most usable one) for MS-7030 have "NVIDIA RAID IDE ROM BIOS 4.60" .
The nvraid driver files in nvidia package 5.10 use 4.46 and this works with your bios version .
The delivered floppy called NVSA020 use driver 4.15 and it's way to old to use , so you have to
    create an updated driver floppy.
Note ! that from firmware "NVIDIA RAID IDE ROM BIOS 4.84" new drivers from 6.86 package work great.
But no NF3's have this rom version .
The 4.79 driver disk mentioned by LairdDrambeg  is a great "allround" that works with most bios versions rom firmware as far as I know.

  • K8n neo-fsr with bios 1.3 and winxp sp2

Innstalled a slip streamed windows xp sp2 innstalasion from scratch.
After innstaling the nvidia driver package 4.27 and choosed to innstal the firewall. But not enable it. Rebooted. Got a firewall shortcut on my desktop. Clicked it and it launced explorer. But I only got a blank page on http://127.0.01:something......
Is this sp2? I tried adding http://127.0.0.1 under "trusted sites". Still the same.
Never tried and nforce3 board before. And this was a clean innstalation with xp sp2 without upgrading to sp2 (slipstreamed version).
How can I get into the firewall web page?
Maybe this have to do with the question I got during instalation (if i wanted to enable it)? In that case how do I now enable it?
Thanks for any help you can gimme.

  • The same old problem with temperatures (K8N Neo Platinum)

I have problems since bios v1.0 on my K8N Neo Platinum with temeparutes.
I have installed a Prometeia Mach II St colling unit
I Tested the v1.0 official bios, the temperature was allways -65º full ou idle, what it is impossivel.
In the moment i flashed the bios to v1.2b5, temperature changed to 49º, and I did not move in nothing. The same temperature appears in all bios since v1.2b5. Now I have the v1.4b2 bios
    Sorry the Bad English

Here are the instructions to reflash the BIOS for your K8 Neo. I am currently running ver.1.4 with little problems. My only snafu is the LED for my optical mouse stays lit even when system is off, however I have no RAID, Ethernet, onboard sound, or SATA drives. I have just a simple basic system, and I don't overclock. My board is the K8 Neo Platinum socket 754, with an AMD64 3000+. YOU MUST HAVE A FLOPPY DRIVE CONNECTED TO SYSTEM FOR THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO WORK!.
Flashing BIOS on K8 Neo per MSI. READ ALL instructions before starting.
1.Check your BIOS for flashing protection and disable it.
    2. Know your board model#. a. Open case and find model# on the board between the PCI slots, or b., boot system and at first DOS screen you will see 'W7030ver1.4122101'. This means you have a MSI model 7030 motherboard with BIOS version 1.4 issued on 12/21/01.
3.Download the Bios that matches your motherboard model and version#.(I believe the Neo Plat had two versions, 1.0 and 1.1). I have 1.0. It will be found between the PCI slots. Create a folder on C: drive labeled 'C:\TEST'
4.EXtract the BIOS file to C:\TEST folder.
5.Create a boot floppy. For XP, at Desktop double click My Computer, right click floppy drive, click Format to format the disk, then click 'Create MS-DOS Boot Disk'.
    6. Set boot order to floppy. Hit F11 to select boot device.
    7. Insert boot floppy and restart system.
    8. At A:\ prompt type in the following,
    C:\ (enter)
    cd\TEST(enter)
    awdfl833c(space)w7030nms.130
The w7030nms.130 is the BIOS file name you downloaded to C:\TEST. Keep in mind you're dealing with DOS file names, so you may need to open a DOS window in Windows, and search C drive for the TEST folder and write down the DOS file name of the BIOS file BEFORE you start the BIOS update.
    9. Reboot when prompted. It shouldn't take more than 10 seconds to update the BIOS.

  • Turn on PC with keyboard [K8N Neo Platinum]

Is it possible to turn your pc on by pressing a button on your keyboard? I have a friend with an old pc (1,5 ghz P4), and he claims that he can turn his pc on that way.
So technically I'm asking you if you know how to do that. Is there a BIOS option in which you can configure the keyboard button on which your computer will respond and go on automatically? That would be very handy.
My motherboard is the K8N Neo Platinum with a 3000+ socket 754. He has an ASUS motherboard.
    Thanks.

Check the manual. It should be an option in the bios. I have it in my bios for my board, but when I helped someone put together their machine with a K8N Platinum 2, I didn't see this as an option in that bios. It may be that power on by keyboard and/or mouse is not an option for your board.

  • MSI K8N Neo XP Problems

I just got a MSI K8N Neo Platinum with a 3200 Clawhammer and a 160 GB Seagate Hard drive. Cooling is an SLK-948 with an Enermax 92mm 2800 RPM fan and a Antec 400 watt PSU. Ram, ive tried both 2700 and 3500. My system posts ok then i reformat but when it starts installing the setup files it gives me a blue error screen saying the system was halted. Ive also tried reformating on another computer. Then I just launch the XP setup from the A64 system. All goes well and everything installs until the very end i get the error screen again. I am not overclocking or anything, all bios settings are default as i just got this setup. Ive also tried my seagate harddrive on my other computer and it has none of these probelms.

Start by eliminating possible causes 1 at a time.
I'd start with the RAM.  Set your BIO's to default (compatability) settings.  Use 1 stick to start in slot zero.
If you have another PC to work with (w/ internet access) download and create a bootable CD with memtest86.  You can get it here:  Test Your Memory  If not, perhaps a friend can save it to disk for you.
It's a decent memory tester and has helped me on more than one occassion.  The last time with a 256mb stick of PC2700 Mushkin.  For some reason the FIC board it was on didn't like it.  Everytime I went to install XP it would fail in different places for strange reasons.  Since I'd used the disk successfully just recently before, I ran memtest86 and discovered the problem.
The next thing I'd examine is the CD/DVD-ROM drive(s).  I can't count the number of times I've gone to upgrade a machine, keeping the CD drive, only to discover XP doesn't like the drive.  If you're drive is older, buy a new one.  Don't install using a DVD drive (so they say - I don't have one).
If all else fails use the diagnostic LED's to try and track the problem.
